Dhaka Dynamites 149 for 2 (Maruf 75*, Sangakkara 30) beat Barisal Bulls 148 for 6 (Nafees 55, Mushfiqur 50*, Shahid 3-21) by eight wicketsScorecard and ball-by-ball detailsMehedi Marufs unbeaten 75 lifted Dhaka Dynamites to an eight-wicket win over Barisal Bulls, helping them chase down 149 with four overs to spare. . He dominated an 88-run opening stand with Kumar Sangakkara and saw the job through, with five fours and as many sixes in his 45-ball knock.Maruf, whose reputation has been growing steadily in domestic cricket in the last few seasons, started the chase with two sixes off Al-Amin Hossain, the first swivel-pulled over deep square leg and the next a flick over midwicket. He smashed Dilshan Munaweera over midwicket for his third six, and peppered boundaries through point and cover. He reached 50 off just 30 balls, before landing Taijul Islam and Monir Hossain beyond the long-on boundary for his fourth and fifth six.Sangakkara supported his younger partner with a 24-ball 30 before falling to a Taijul in the ninth over, off a delivery that kept very low. But by then Dhaka needed 61 runs to win. Shakib made 20, before Mosaddek Hossain chipped in with an unbeaten 10 off 5, wrapping up the victory with a four steered past backward point.Earlier, Barisal started disastrously with the bat when Shamsur Rahman was caught at slip, though replays were inconclusive as to whether the ball had carried to Maruf. Nasir Hossain then took a brilliant catch at point to remove Munaweera before Dawid Malans dismissal in the eighth over made it 44 for 3.Shahriar Nafees and Mushfiqur Rahim rescued Barisal from that point through a fourth wicket stand of 82 off 51. Nafees made most of the running with his fourth T20 fifty, the first since February 2013. He struck seven fours and two big sixes in his 34-ball 55, many of them crisp hits past point, midwicket and square leg.Barisal however couldnt accelerate after Nafees dismissal, adding just 22 runs in the last 3.4 overs, despite Mushfiqur reaching his fifty off 36 balls. Mohammad Shahid was Dhakas standout bowler, with 3 for 21. .com) - The Calgary Flames aim to bounce back from their first regulation home loss of the campaign on Friday night when they host a Detroit Red Wings club that they swept in three meetings a season ago. . Defencemen Drew Doughty, Shea Weber and forward Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Canadians, who started their gold-medal defence 2-0. Goalie Roberto Luongo, getting the call in place of Game 1 starter Carey Price, was solid when needed in making 23 saves for the shutout. . U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield in Manhattan agreed that lawyers on both sides could make their formal requests by Nov. 8. A hearing is scheduled for a day earlier. Jordan Siev, a lawyer for Rodriguez, wrote in a joint letter to the judge from lawyers on both sides that MLB lawyers planned to ask that the lawsuit be dismissed. The question was a natural one.It was the Monday morning after Week 6s games, and Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi had just had 26 touches for 207 total yards and two touchdowns. And as we got to the Dolphins-Steelers game, my Fantasy Focus podcast co-host Field Yates turned to me, rattled off the stats, and asked very simply, Do you buy this? And I said that I did. We discussed what we had seen from Ajayi in that game, how he had dominated the Dolphins running back touches and how head coach Adam Gase had been public about wanting to go with one main back, and then I added this: Hes definitely a legit starting RB in fantasy this year, kind of a midtier RB2, but obviously hes not going to run for 200 yards every week.Well.Clearly I was wrong, as in Week 7, Ajayi did go off for 200, this time on 29 touches for 216 total yards and a score. How ridiculous is what Ajayi did? He has 123 more rushing yards than any other running back since Week 6, and he sat out last week due to his Week 8 bye.Eric Dickerson holds the NFL record for rushing yards in a single season (2,105 in 1984), and his two best games that year totaled 423 yards and two touchdowns. Ajayi in Weeks 6 and 7? 423 total yards and three touchdowns. Ajayi has scored 69 total points in the three games in which he has had more than 10 touches, and over 16 games that pace is good for 368 points. That would be the second-best fantasy season by a running back since 2001; LaDainian Tomlinson had 410 in 2006.So yeah, what he did was historic. It was a marvel to watch, really wonderful. Unless, of course, you no longer owned him.Ah, yes. With inconsistent usage and production early in the season, the presence of Arian Foster and the struggles of the entire Dolphins offense, some fantasy owners got impatient with young Jay Ajayi and set him free, only to watch in horror as he rewrote the Dolphins record book. Did you know Ajayi had more than 95 yards after contact in consecutive games, the only running back to do that since 2001. Ha! I could do this all day.Every year there are regrettable trades, ill-advised drops, decisions that seem fine at the moment but look horrific in hindsight. You have these. I have these. Everyone has these. But I have not seen as many involving a single player as I have this year with Jay Ajayi. And so, as Ajayi comes off his bye to take on the New York Jets, and with the usual apologies to Oasis, its time for the third annual edition of Dont Look Back in Anger. This year, however, its the Jay Ajayi top 10 edition.No. 10. If you dont have one of the few elites, youre probably streaming tight ends. Got it out of the way early!Lets get to it. As always, this is not a start/sit column but rather players I expect to exceed or fall short of general expectations. Always check my rankings (updated throughout the week and last updated at 12:15 p.m. ET on Sunday) to see if I would start this guy or that guy. Thanks to Thirsty Kyle Soppe of ESPN Fantasy for his help with the column. Here we go.Quarterbacks I love in Week 9Philip Rivers, Chargers: Yes, he was bad last week, but hes out of Denver and back home against a Titans team that has given up at least 335 passing yards and at least two passing touchdowns in three straight games. Part of the issue is the deep ball, as the Titans have allowed the most pass plays of 20 or more yards. And while that might be limited if Travis Benjamin does indeed miss this game, Rivers has the fourth-most passes of at least 15 yards the past four weeks. Hes an easy top-five play for me this week.Jameis Winston, Buccaneers: I have no confidence that the Bucs can stop Matt Ryan and the Falcons in this one, which means they are going to have to throw to keep up. And they should be successful in doing so. The Falcons have given up at least three passing scores (and at least 20 fantasy points) in five of eight games this season. The only three QBs not to hit at least 20 points against them were Trevor Siemian, a hobbled Russell Wilson (who has been bad all season) and Rivers, who threw for 370 against them but Melvin Gordon vultured all the touchdowns. Especially considering the expected running-game struggles the Bucs will have, Winston should be chucking it a lot. Winston is available in about 30 percent of leagues and is a top-10 play for me.Dak Prescott, Cowboys: You had me at Cleveland. Props to the Indians (and the Cubs), who kept distracting me from writing this thing. What an amazing series. And while the future is very bright in the basketball and baseball worlds of Cleveland, the football world still has a ways to go. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the only QB to not throw multiple touchdown passes against the Browns this season (in fairness, that was last week, but still) and Dak continues to be red-hot, with three total scores in back-to-back games and at least two in four straight. The Browns are 31st in scoring defense the past four weeks, so expect the Dak or Romo conversations to continue in full throat after this week.Others receiving votes: Marcus Mariota now has multiple passing touchdowns in four straight games, and I believe San Diego sells out to stop the run here, opening things up for Mariota against the 20th-ranked pass defense the past month. ... Tyrod Taylor has at least 14 points in seven straight games, and his rushing gives him a high floor. Yes, this game is in Seattle, but the Seahawks are banged up on defense and have given up an average of 314 passing yards per game since their Week 5 bye. ... Speaking of rushing QBs, just remember if you start Colin Kaepernick you dont have to watch him. It wont be pretty, but against the Saints, expect Kap to get you 15 points or so.Quarterbacks I hate in Week 9Derek Carr, Raiders: Insert QB facing the Broncos here. Ultimately, I am a Carr believer and am not buying into the whole second-half fade narrative ... but, you know, Denver. The Broncos have allowed fewer than 15 fantasy points to QBs in seven straight games, Carr was QB21 and QB18 in his two starts against them last season and while I think hell be OK here in a QB2 sort of way -- he actually has been strong against the blitz and you know the Broncos will bring pressure -- he certainly is not putting up the top-five numbers he has so far.Russell Wilson, Seahawks: I mean, theres no other way to put it: He has been bad. Fantasy-wise, at least. Bad. Like, hasnt thrown a touchdown since Week 3 bad. Not one. Like, has yet to gain more than nine yards on a rush this season bad. Like, currently QB29 on a points-per-game basis this season bad. Its not as cushy a matchup as you think here, either, as Rex Ryans squad is 11th versus the pass the past four weeks, and aside from last week against Tom Brady, the Bills have given up just two total passing scores in their previous five games. Given what weve seen of the less-than-healthy Wilson this year, I dont expect Brady-like numbers here. Hes outside my top 12.Carson Wentz, Eagles: With less than 240 yards passing in four straight and the offensive line struggling, Wentz heads to New Jersey to face a Giants team that is coming off a bye and has given up more than 15 fantasy points to an opposing QB just once this season. I prefer the Giants as a streaming defense this week more so than Wentz as a potential bye-week fill-in.Running backs I love in Week 9Mark Ingram, Saints: Im putting him here because, while it has been an incredibly frustrating season with him and last Sunday was brutal, I dont believe he (or his fantasy value) is dead the way some Tim Hightower enthusiasts do. Theres a reason they signed him to the big deal, as the eye test says hes the best running back they have, and Hightower went 0-for-5 (again, thats zero for FIVE!) in goal-to-go situations last Sunday. (Of course, Ingram has gotten only three such carries all season and they gave Hightower five in one game, but whatever, I digress). I stand by the idea that Ingram, not Hightower, is the Saints running back you want (though Hightower will get some work here). Ingram has done his time, so to speak, and gives New Orleans the best chance to win. Hes running well this season when he actually gets a chance and will continue to do so against a 49ers defense that is last against the run the past four weeks.Jonathan Stewart, Panthers: He was on the hate list last week and man, was I wrong, as he ran over and through Cardinals guys with not a care in the world. Since returning from the hammy injury that cost him three games, Stewart has 205 yards and four scores in just two games. The Rams have given up at least 100 yards or a score to opposing running backs in four of the past five, with the Lions (they cant run the ball) being the only exception. Stewart is a top-10 play for me.Charcandrick West, Chiefs: This is assuming Spencer Ware misses the game due to still being in the concussion protocol, and if he does, West is an easy top-10 play for me. When getting at least 20 touches last season, West had more than 120 total yards and a score in every single game, and you cant ask for a better matchup, as the Jags have coughed up four, count em, four running back rushing touchdowns during the past two weeks, and at least one in four straight games.Ty Montgomery, Packers: Hes expected to play this week and he qualifies as a running back in ESPN leagues (he has played roughly two-thirds of his snaps there this season). Montgomery actually led the NFL in receptions from Week 6 to 7. The Colts are 22nd against the run the past four weeks and no team has allowed more running back receiving scores than Indy.Others receiving votes: While I am sticking by (and starting) Mark Ingram, I still think Tim Hightower gets enough touches here to be worthy of a flex play given the matchup with San Francisco, as the 49ers have allowed at least 24 fantasy points to RBs for five straight games. ... From LeGarrette Blount to Jay Ajayi, the Steelers have been mauled recently, and Terrance West (averaging 5.4 yards per carry in his past three) should keep that streak going. ... You saw that C.J. Prosise had more than 100 total yards last week on just eight touches, but did you see he played just four fewer snaps than Christine Michael in that game? I like Prosise as a flex, especially in PPR leagues, against the Bills 25th-ranked run defense during the past month. ... If youre truly desperate, Antone Smith is the Bucs running back of choice for me this week. Hes a good pass-catching back, and you know I believe this game will be a shootout. Smith, who is familiar with Dirk Koetters offense from their days in Atlanta, outsnapped Peyton Barber last week 22-3.Running backs I hate in Week 9Todd Gurley, Rams: I dont know how you bench him given the bye-week issues and the level of guaranteed touches he receives, but I also dont know how you get excited about him. Or use him in daily. Gurley ranks 40th out of 41 qualified RBs in yards per carry (3.01), and he will try to get going against a resurgent Panthers defense that is stout versus the run (second best during the past four weeks) and leaky in the secondary (dead last in the past four). Carolina has allowed just one running back touchdown from Week 2 forward. Volume and passing-game involvement keep Gurleys floor high, but expect another Case Keenum to Kenny Britt and Tavon Austin kind of game here.Matt Asiata and (if he plays) Jerick McKinnon, Vikings: Theres no truth to the rumor that Norv Turner resigned because he realized how many plays he had to call that involved getting the ball into Matt 3.2 yards per carry Asiatas hands, but this is not a team that can run the ball, as the Vikes rank dead last in terms of yards per carry before first contact. Lamar Miller is the only running back who has run for a score against the Lions this season, and in an election year its worth saying that I have met Lamar Miller and you, Matt Asiata, are no Lamar Miller.Rashad Jennings, Giants: Just once in the past five games have the Eagles allowed a rushing touchdown, and Jennings just isnt getting the volume to make up for the lack of guaranteed opportunities, as he hasnt had more than 15 touches since Week 1 (of course, he has been hurt during some of that). Hopefully the bye fixed some of the Giants issues, but I wonder if one of those fixes is finding new ways to get dynamic rookie Paul Perkins more involved. Jennings is averaging just 1.9 yards per carry during his past three games, so I want to see it on the field before I put Jennings back into my lineup, no matter how desperate I am.TMR NOTE: I know, I know. Once again, a fairly weak running back list. It is what it is, gang. Anyone with a pulse these days is a viable fantasy running back, especially with so many injuries and teams on byes.Wide receivers I love in Week 9Kelvin Benjamin, Panthers: The Rams have the third-fewest sacks in the NFL and given Cam Newtons mobility, I expect plenty of time to find the 6-foot-5 Benjamin, who now has at least 70 yards in three straight games and should spend a lot of time matched up with burnable 5-foot-10 corner E.J. Gaines. Hes an easy top-10 play for me this week.Dez Bryant, Cowboys: Just because Brandon Marshall couldnt do it against the Browns doesnt mean Dez wont. Im putting him in this section because Joe Hadens shadow coverage doesnt scare me, especially against a guy like Dez, who can win almost any 50-50 ball, and Dak will give him a chance at some of those. The Browns have allowed more than 200 WR yards in three straight games, and after Sunday itll be four.Demaryius Thomas, Broncos: With at least 10 targets in three straight and five or more catches in seven straight (Emmanuel Sanders hasnt caught five passes in a game since Week 5) , Thomas has a very high floor against a team that gives up more than 23 fantasy points a game to opposing wide receivers.Tyrell Williams, Chargers: You know I like Rivers in this one, and with Travis Benjamin either missing the game or hobbled, expect Williams to easily outscore Benjamin, just as he has in four of the past five games. The Titans have allowed five WR touchdowns and an average of 196 receiving yards in the past three games, including more pass plays of 20 or more yards than any other team in the National Football League. Williams bounces back this week as a strong top-20 play.Others receiving votes: Among wide receivers and tight ends, Michael Thomas has the longest current streak of games of at least six fantasy points with five. Drew Brees keeps getting him more involved in the offense and I expect the streak to continue this Sunday against the 49ers. ... Cole Beasley, lord of the slot, gets a great matchup against a Browns squad that has given up at least 94 yards AND a score to the slot in four of the past six games. ... Even with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery on the field, I like Davante Adams this week against a Colts team that is 30th against the pass the past four weeks. Adams is quietly on pace for a 91/969/11 season. For comparison, Allen Hurns was WR14 last season with 1,031 yards and 10 scores. ... If Travis Benjamin does, in fact, miss the game against the Titans, you could do worse than Dontrelle Inman. Inman has just one fewer target than Williams or Benjamin the past two weeks and this should be a high-scoring game (at least for San Diego).Wide receivers I hate in Week 9Marvin Jones, Lions: With fewer than 40 yards in three of his past four games, a catch percentage of just 50 percent of his targets the past three weeks and an expected matchup with Xavier Rhodes, Jones is not a top-20 play for me this week against a Vikings team that is second against the pass the past four weeks.Amari Cooper, Raiders: Insert wide receiver facing Denver here. So far this season, the only wideouts to really have any success against the Broncos have been bigger wide receivers. As great as Cooper is, I have a tough time seeing him getting behind the Broncos secondary in a meaningful way here, as Denver allows just 5.7 yards per pass attempt this season, lowest in the NFL.Jeremy Maclin, Chiefs: Man, I hope I am wrong about this one. Im putting him here because people may have seen his score last week and see the Jaguars on the schedule and have reason for optimism. I am here to dash that optimism. He scored last week and still finished with only seven points. Now, I hear that the Chiefs have plans to get Maclin more involved and certainly, he was brilliant down the stretch last season. But because he figures to see a decent amount of Jalen Ramsey in this one, Im in prove-it-to-me mode with Maclin. Hes sitting on my bench this week, as he has failed to catch five passes or gain 50 yards in three straight games. Who knows which Nick Foles shows up, so even in what may appear to be a tasty matchup with the Jaguars, Maclin is outside my top 20 this week.Tight ends I love in Week 9Antonio Gates, Chargers: Again, with the Benjamin injury, I expect San Diego to go to more two-tight-end sets in this one, especially considering the Titans have given up 221 yards and two touchdowns to tight ends during the past two weeks. And while Hunter Henry was a thing there for a minute (and hell certainly be involved Sunday), Gates has run 70 routes the past two weeks to Henrys 39.Kyle Rudolph, Vikings: Yeah, now that Norv Turner is gone, Rudolph will really explode! Wait, what? Um ... this is such a brutal week for tight ends, Im banking on the connection with Sam Bradford -- Rudolph has at least five catches in four of his past five games and is top five among tight ends in targets -- and the matchup. The Lions have been burned for a tight end touchdown in six of eight games this season, and have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.Others receiving votes: The Cowboys are top 10 in most fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends this season and Gary Barnidge has at least five targets in seven straight games, putting him on the streamer radar. ... My favorite streamer this week is Cameron Brate, in a game I believe Tampa will throw a ton. The Falcons allow the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. ... Speaking of streamers, Lance Kendricks of the Rams has five or more catches in three of his past four games and gets a Carolina team that has given up at least 14 fantasy points to opposing tight ends in four of its past six games.Tight ends I hate in Week 9Zach Ertz, Eagles: The Eagles just arent looking for him, as he has less than 25 yards in three straight games. And while he has the talent to break out of the slump, it wont be this week, as the Giants have allowed just one touchdown to an opposing tight end and given up more than 65 yards to a tight end just once this season.Julius Thomas, Jaguars: He is not a consistent part of their offense, as he now has four straight games with fewer than four catches and under 30 yards. In addition, K.C. is the fifth-best team against tight ends this season.Defenses I love in Week 9Seattle Seahawks: I know they are banged up, but happiness is a home game in prime time against an even more banged-up Bills team.Kansas City Chiefs: You had me at Bortles.Others receiving votes: I like the Giants at home off a bye against the suddenly turnover-prone Eagles. ... The Ravens have scored six points or more in five of seven games this season, and will get either Landry Jones or a gimpy Big Ben.Defenses I hate in Week 9Atlanta Falcons: I think the Thursday night game will be a shootout, so Im staying away.Green Bay Packers: Another shootout alert. You can likely do better.Matthew Berry, The Talented Mr. Roto, knows shirtless J.R. Smith would never drop Jay Ajayi. Texans coach Bill O’Brien said recently that he feels like the team is in a “good place” heading into training camp after going 4-12 last season and installing Brian Gaine as the team’s new General Manager.

Gaine agrees that the Texans have “positioned ourselves well” and now need to “see some results” from the work they’ve put into the team. He doesn’t feel the job is done Authentic Nick Bjugstad Jersey , however.

Gaine has been on the job since January, which meant the team’s been moving at a “rapid pace” to restock the roster heading into the season. Changes to the organization go beyond new players, however. O’Brien and Gaine asked for improvements to the team’s practice facility, locker rooms and staffing as they work to shape the organization into the one they want.

“It’s not just trying to build a roster,” Gaine said, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. “We’re trying to build a football culture that’ll withstand the test of time and not just be on a year-to-year basis.”

Such changes will likely take more than one offseason to fully take hold, but the work already done and the return of several injured stars may be enough to bear some fruit immediately as well.

The Jacksonville Jaguars might have lost their No. 1 receiver for the season.

Marqise Lee, who led the team in receptions in 2017, injured his left knee in a 17-6 victory against Atlanta in the preseason Saturday night and could be out for the year.

Lee was carted off the field in the first quarter after Falcons cornerback Damontae Kazee twisted his leg making a tackle. Lee fumbled on the play, but it was overturned because Kazee was flagged for tackling with his helmet.

Teammates and coaches offered well-wishes to Lee as he left the field. Nonetheless Packers Game Jerseys , it was the kind of preseason injury that leaves players, coaches and fans shaking their heads.

It also reaffirmed Falcons coach Dan Quinn's decision to rest two of his biggest offensive stars, receiver Julio Jones and running back Devonta Freeman.

Lee had 56 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns last season. He signed a four-year, $34 million contract in March that included $16.5 million guaranteed.

A second-round draft pick from USC in 2014, Lee has 171 catches for 2,166 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed games because of various injuries in three of his four seasons.

If Lee misses extended time in 2018, the Jaguars would rely on second-year pros Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook, one-year rental Donte Moncrief, and rookie DJ Chark to pick up the slack.

CHICAGO (AP) 鈥?Bears coach Matt Nagy decided to rest starters for the next-to-last preseason game rather than use it as the customary regular-season tuneup.

And the backups proved that they're also ready for the regular season as Chase Daniel directed touchdown drives on the first three possessions.

The Bears played in the Hall of Fame Game and have been practicing since July 20 Cheap Customized Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys , and Nagy liked what he'd seen from the starters in practices. So he decided Friday to keep starters out of what normally would be a dress rehearsal for the regular-season opener at Green Bay.

Daniel replaced Mitchell Trubisky against his mentor, Andy Reid, and the Chiefs, the team Nagy last year served as the offensive coordinator.

Playing against both the Chiefs' starting defense and then the backups, Daniel led the Bears to a 24-10 halftime lead. Daniel, a Chiefs backup quarterback from 2013-15, finished 15 of 18 for 198 yards and two touchdowns. The first two Bears touchdown drives came against Kansas City's starting defense, minus injured safety Eric Berry and four other injured players.

LOS ANGELES (AP) 鈥?Rookie John Kelly rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns, and the briefly debuted their new defensive stars.

Although the Rams rested 10 presumptive offensive starters for the third straight preseason game , the Los Angeles defense's three big offseason acquisitions played at the Coliseum. Ndamukong Suh and cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib got some action early in the first quarter before sitting.

J.J. Watt also started and made a tackle in his first on-field action since breaking his leg in the Texans' fifth game last season. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn't get to see the current holder of the award, Aaron Donald, who is deep in his second consecutive contract holdout from the Rams.

Alfred Blue rushed for an early score for Houston, and Braxton Miller caught a TD pass from Brandon Weeden, who went 10 of 17 for 108 yards with an interception after Deshaun Watson's brief action. Quan Bray caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Joe Webb with 5:54 to play for the Texans, but Ejuan Price sacked Webb on the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt.

Nick Rose then missed a 57-yard field goal at the gun.

PITTSBURGH (AP) 鈥?Ben Roethlisberger made the most of his brief preseason cameo, throwing for 114 yards and a touchdown.

New Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner didn't let Roethlisberger's lone scheduled exhibition appearance ahead of the Sept. 9 season opener at Cleveland go to waste. Roethlisberger completed 11 of 18 passes during his three drives, including a 32-yard rainbow to Justin Hunter for a score late in the first quarter.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, meanwhile , struggled against Pittsburgh's starting defense. Mariota completed 5 of 8 passes for 43 yards while playing most of the first half. He missed a wide-open Corey Davis for what would have been a long touchdown on Tennessee's opening drive and his afternoon ended late in the second quarter when Steelers rookie safety Terrell Edmunds picked off a floater intended for Taywan Taylor.

The Titans didn't do much in the run game to take any of the pressure off Mariota. Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis combined for 23 yards rushing on eight carries. Tennessee's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Blaine Gabbert to tight end Anthony Firkser in the fourth quarter.

COLTS 23, 49ERS 17

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) 鈥?Andrew Luck threw a touchdown pass on what will probably be his last preseason drive, and Christine Michael scored on a 1-yard plunge late in the third quarter.

Luck looked much sharper than he did in Monday night's loss to Baltimore. He wound up 8 of 10 with 90 yards and produced the only TD in the first half. He also had four carries for 27 yards before leaving midway through the second quarter.

Otherwise, it was a struggle for the Colts. They had trouble establishing the run 鈥?and stopping the run, too.

Alfred Morris carried 13 times for 71 yards in the first half as San Francisco piled up 99 yards on the ground. Morris finished with 17 carries for 84 yards.

Still, the Colts managed to keep the 49ers out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter and nearly picked off Jimmy Garoppolo on back-to-back plays near the goal line late in the first half. Garoppolo was 9 of 19 with 135 yards before giving way to C.J. Beathard midway through the third quarter.

OAKLAND Wayne Simmonds Jersey , Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden jawed at the officials, worked closely with the quarterbacks and was once again adored by the Oakland Raiders fans.

It was as if he had never left the Coliseum.

Jon Gruden was a winner in his return to the sideline for Oakland when the Raiders got a touchdown pass from Connor Cook in a 16-10 victory over the Detroit Lions on Friday night.

“It was awesome,” he said. “I saw some recognizable faces that had gotten a little bit older. I saw some old friends who mean a lot to me. Like I said all along, this is a great responsibility. The nostalgia has worn off. We have to do something with the opportunity. But it was sure great to see the Raiders fans.”

Gruden was welcomed back warmly to the Coliseum for his first game here as Raiders coach since beating the Jets in a playoff game Jan. 12, 2001. Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay after that season and has spent the past nine years as an ESPN analyst.

Raiders owner Mark Davis lured Gruden back to the sideline with a 10-year contract worth a reported $100 million following a disappointing six-win season under Jack Del Rio.

The Gruden era appeared to get off to a rousing start when Marshawn Lynch ran 60 yards for a TD on the third snap, but the score was called back on a holding penalty by rookie tackle Kolton Miller.

“I was really ticked off after watching that get called back,” Gruden said. “Chucky came out for a brief moment tonight.”

Oakland settled for a punt on the only drive with starting quarterback Derek Carr, but scored three times in five drives with Cook at the helm. Cook threw a 7-yard TD pass to Ryan Switzer in the second quarter and led Oakland to a pair of field goals by rookie Eddy Pineiro. Cook finished 11 for 19 for 141 yards.

The Lions also welcomed a new coach in Matt Patricia, who opted to rest star quarterback Matthew Stafford, who got enough work in two days of joint practices against Oakland.

“We got a lot of good work in this week,” Patricia said. “He took a lot of reps and he saw a lot of different looks. That was the goal Frederik Andersen Jersey , to come out here and be able to get some of those different team tempo plays and have it scripted and a little controlled. Just thought it was a good opportunity tonight to have the other guys go out and compete.”

Matt Cassel got the start and went 10 for 18 for 81 yards, leading Detroit to one score on three drives, with Ameer Abdullah capping it with a 1-yard TD run . Jake Rudock finished 12 for 19 for 84 yards.

Lynch once again sat during the national anthem. Lynch also sat for the anthem all of last season but never gave a reason for his decision. No other players on either team demonstrated during the anthem, with the Lions all standing together with locked arms.

Lions second-round RB Kerryon Johnson showed good burst, running for 34 yards on seven carries and adding four catches for 33 yards.

“To me, didn’t make enough plays at the beginning, didn’t make enough plays at the end,” Johnson said. “I still have work to do. We still have work to do. It was the first game. First-game jitters out for everybody.”

The Raiders also had a strong performance from a second-round pick with DT P.J. Hall getting a sack and batting down a pass in the first half. Oakland undrafted free agent RB Chris Warren III ran 13 times for 86 yards .

Raiders CB Antonio Hamilton limped off twice in the second half with an apparent ankle injury.

There was one penalty under the new rule prohibiting players from leading with their helmets. Oakland S Karl Joseph was called for the infraction on a tackle against Abdullah in the second quarter.

Pineiro’s second field goal came at the end of the first half after Gruden called for a run that set up Pineiro’s 48-yarder off the infield dirt. Pineiro added a 45-yard field goal off the dirt in the fourth quarter. The Raiders will play at least one regular-season game this season with the infield dirt in place for Oakland Athletics games.

“I remember when we drafted (Sebastian) Janikowski, it was like being on a foreign planet for him when he got here and started kicking off the dirt,” Gruden said of Oakland’s first-round pick in 2000. “We did manage to get him a couple of looks.”

OAKLAND, Calif. — Two veteran coaches had a similar message for their teams on the eve of Game 4 of the Western Conference finals between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

“It starts 0-0 Youth Da'Shawn Hand Jersey ,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of Game 4. “It doesn’t matter if we won (the previous game) by one or 41.”

In fact, the Warriors did win Game 3 on Sunday by 41 points, 126-85, to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven.

The margin of victory not only was the largest in Warriors postseason history, but the margin of defeat also was the biggest ever for a team that won 65 or more games in the regular season.

Stephen Curry, who had missed 17 of his 20 3-point attempts in the first 10 quarters of the series, sent the Warriors’ home crowd into a frenzy by making 4 of 5 in the second half Sunday en route to 35 points.

It was a performance that brought back memories to Kerr of the Boston Celtics’ Danny Ainge.

“I don’t remember what I had for breakfast, but I remember what Danny Ainge said 30 years ago,” Kerr warned. “They won a playoff game by 40, and he said, ‘This is not the Tour de France. You don’t start with a big lead because it’s not based on time or how much you won by.’

“It’s the NBA Vincent Rey Jersey , so it’s 2-1 (in the series). So doesn’t matter what happened (Sunday). We have to be ready for a great team that’s going to come out like they did in Game 2, attacking, hair on fire and taking the force to us, and we have to be ready for that.”

The Rockets’ margin of defeat Sunday was almost identical to the number of fewer points scored by Eric Gordon, P.J. Tucker and Trevor Ariza in Game 3 than in Game 2.

Key members of the James Harden/Chris Paul supporting cast — Gordon, Tucker and Ariza — combined for 23-of-33 shooting and contributed 68 points to a 127-105 series-evening home win in Game 2.

On Sunday, they went a combined 8 of 24 and 23 points in the blowout loss.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni wasn’t singling out anyone when he assessed the Game 3 performance.

“We didn’t bring our best game,” he observed. “But I’m hoping for the best (in Game 4). I hope we play great and them bad. Never know.”

The loss was the Rockets’ fourth of the postseason. They rebounded with wins after each of the first three, romping by an average of 20.7 points.

This time, they’ll be up against a Warriors team that has won an NBA-record 16 straight playoff games at home.

D’Antoni went as far as to say the pressure is on the Warriors, who would hand the home-court advantage back to Houston with a loss in Game 4.

“I hope so JK Scott Jersey ,” Kerr reacted to his rival’s statement. “We’re much better when the pressure’s on. He’s right. We’re at home, so if they win, they have home-court advantage. So, yeah, pressure’s on us. It’s kind of on them, too.”

Browns General Manager John Dorsey said earlier this week that the team has discussed adding former Cowboy Dez Bryant to their wide receiver group and things have apparently moved beyond in-house conversations.

Mary Kay Cabot of reports that the Browns have reached out to Bryant’s representatives to gauge interest in a one-year deal with the team. If there is interest Womens Mike Evans Jersey , the next step would likely be to bring Bryant in for a visit with the team.

Dorsey was asked about Bryant in the wake of the announcement that Josh Gordon would not be reporting to training camp with the team this week as he attends to his “overall health and treatment plan.” Dorsey said that the team expects Gordon back, but there’s no timetable for his return and it’s unclear when one might develop.

Bryant turned down an offer from the Ravens following his release by the Cowboys and word has been that he’s looking to sign with a contender. The Browns might not qualify on that front, but Gordon’s absence would open the door to a prominent role if Bryant can show well on the field.

They’ve agreed to trade starting linebackers Alec Ogletree and Robert Quinn, so they’ll want LBs who fit Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme. They’re unlikely to match Trumaine Johnson’s top offers from other teams, so while cornerback Marcus Peters is on his way, Rams still need more depth in secondary. General manager Mitch Kupchak wants point guard Kemba Walker to end his NBA career right where it started – with the Charlotte Hornets.

Kupchak said Friday that Walker is ”revered” in the Charlotte community, and that he and owner Michael Jordan look at the two-time All-Star as ”the focal point of this franchise going forward.”

The 28-year-old Walker has been the subject of possible NBA trade talks as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract with the Hornets. That speculation has amped up recently because it is a practical impossibility for Charlotte to sign Walker to an extension before he becomes a free agent in July of 2019 since the Hornets are so tight under the salary cap.

”I think everybody is aware of the situation, if you follow basketball a little bit, it is unique that he is on an extension that may make it a challenge going forward to figure out before he becomes a free agent Authentic Nathan Shepherd Jersey ,” Kupchak said.

At $12 million per year, Walker well underpaid when compared to the other top point guards in the league.

But that doesn’t mean Kupchak is giving up hope the team can keep Walker in Charlotte.

”I don’t think it is anybody’s goal to lose him in free agency,” Kupchak said. ”But going forward, in the community Authentic Paul Worrilow Jersey , in the franchise, this is a player that we hope is with us – not only for the next couple of years, but ends his career here.”

The Hornets don’t have much experience behind Walker at point guard.

They have last year’s first-round draft pick Malik Monk and drafted Devonte Graham from Kansas in the second round on Thursday night.

Graham said he is excited to pick Walker’s brain when it comes to basketball.

”I have never met him, but I remember watching him play when he was at UConn though Womens Henrik Zetterberg Jersey ,” Graham said. ”I’m just excited man to learn from someone like that and just be around someone like that who is winner, and knows how to win and compete. Defensive tackle Akeem Spence has been acquired by the Miami Dolphins from the Detroit Lions for a late-round draft pick in 2019.

Spence has 41 starts in a five-year NFL career. He was with Tampa Bay in 2013-16, and started 11 games for the Lions last year. His career totals include 8陆 sacks Adidas Jonathan Drouin Jersey , one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

The sluggish opening three months. The so-so finish. The only occasional attention to detail on defense. None of it matters anymore.

The playoffs are here. The champs are Matt Murray Jersey , too.

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins provided proof in Pittsburgh’s 7-0 dismantling of the Philadelphia Flyers in the opening game of their first-round series Wednesday night.

Crosby performed more stick wizardry on his way to his third postseason hat trick, Evgeni Malkin added a highlight-reel goal of his own and the Penguins overwhelmed their seemingly overmatched cross-state rivals to begin their quest for a third straight Stanley Cup with a blowout that seemed to indicate the grudge match could be a mismatch.

Not that Pittsburgh’s captain wanted to buy into any sort of message sending, even after the Penguins became only the fifth team in NHL history to win a series opener by at least seven goals.

”I mean, it’s one game,” Crosby said. ”Whether it’s 7-0 or 1-0 or double overtime, it’s one game. A big part in the playoffs is to get better every game and to adjust, and that’s the way we have to look at it.”

That might be a frightening proposition for the rest of the NHL. It certainly is for the Flyers, who have lost all five meetings with Pittsburgh this season, giving up at least five goals each time. Nothing that happened during the regular season, however, compared to Wednesday night. The Penguins pumped five goals in the first 29:01 to chase goalie Brian Elliott, and the Flyers simply could not keep pace.

”It was one of the worst games I’ve been a part of,” Flyers forward Claude Giroux said.

Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol mercifully pulled Elliott after Crosby swatted Brian Dumoulin’s point shot out of the air and knocked it by a stunned Elliott to put the Penguins up 5-0 just before the game’s midway point. Elliott stopped 14 of 19 shots before being replaced by Petr Mrazek. Mrazek made 12 saves Roman Josi Jersey , but Hakstol indicated he’s likely to go with Elliott again in Friday’s Game 2.

Whoever is in net for the Flyers, it won’t matter if the play in front of them isn’t better. Philadelphia’s power play went 0 for 4 and didn’t even generate a shot.

”They beat us from pretty much every aspect tonight, starting from the net out,” Elliott said. ”Everybody just has to be better.”

Jake Guentzel had a goal and three assists for Pittsburgh. Bryan Rust and Carl Hagelin also scored. Matt Murray stopped 24 shots for his third straight playoff shutout.

The Flyers stressed the need to stay out of the penalty box and put together three disciplined, competitive periods if they wanted to put an abrupt halt to Pittsburgh’s run at history. It didn’t happen. Not even close.

The Penguins jumped on Philadelphia early. Elliott stopped Kris Letang’s slap shot with his blocker only to see the long rebound go right to Rust, who ripped it over Elliott’s right shoulder to give the Penguins the lead 2:38 into the game.

Philadelphia’s best chance at staying in it came minutes later, but Scott Laughton whiffed on his first attempt from the doorstep and Murray made a sprawling glove save on Laughton’s second try to preserve Pittsburgh’s lead.

”If that goes in, it’s 1-1 and maybe we’re talking about a different result,” Crosby said.

Moments later, Hagelin expertly redirected Patric Hornqvist’s shot past Elliott 10:07 into the game. Malkin drew a hooking penalty to negate a Pittsburgh power play, and when he emerged from the penalty box, he whizzed past three Flyers in one sequence, darting by Jakub Voracek Youth Le'Veon Bell Jersey , slipping past Giroux and then fending off Shayne Gostisbehere before flicking a backhand past Elliott to put the Penguins up 3-0 before the series was 15 minutes old.

All that before Crosby got involved.

The two-time MVP has a knack for scoring in unorthodox ways. He beat Montreal’s Carey Price with an intentional double-deflection and smacked a rebound out of air in overtime to top New Jersey within a span of eight days last month.

His first of the playoffs was just as impressive and provided the exclamation point on a night Pittsburgh looked every bit the threat to become the first team since the New York Islanders of the early 1980s to capture three straight Cups.

NOTES: Crosby’s hat trick tied Pittsburgh owner and Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux for the most postseason hat tricks in franchise history. … Murray hasn’t allowed a goal since Game 4 of the 2017 Stanley Cup finals, a span of 206:26. … The Penguins, who had the league’s top-ranked power play during the regular season, went 1 for 4 with the man advantage. … Pittsburgh C Derick Brassard, who missed time late in the regular season with a lower-body injury, had an assist in 13:44. … Injured Steelers LB Ryan Shazier, who is recovering from spine stabilization surgery and has already been ruled out for the 2018 season, stood up and led the sell-out crowd in a pre-game cheer.

Locker No. 29 in the Seattle Seahawks locker room was once again occupied Wednesday after being vacant the entire offseason.

Earl Thomas was back after ending his lengthy holdout. His Instagram post on Wednesday morning announcing his return made it clear Thomas wasn't happy or satisfied. But he was present, giving the Seahawks a major boost heading into the start of the regular season.

"He's been with us for so long. He's just been part of the fabric of what we've been about," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. "It's an adjustment period as he jumps in with us right now and we'll figure out how that works. ... I don't have any thought about what to share with you right now because we have to see what he does and how he feels and all that stuff, but it's great to have him back."

Thomas' return to the Seahawks facility was a welcome moment for the team and ended a long offseason of drama centered on whether he would play out the final season of his contract, receive the contract extension he hoped for, or possibly be traded. Thomas' reaction to the lack of a resolution was clear in his post: "The disrespect has been noted and will not be forgotten."

He's not happy Justin Williams Jersey , but he wasn't about to sacrifice a $500,000 game check or leave his teammates without one of their most important defensive leaders. Thomas wrote he's never let his "teammates, city or fans down as long as I have lived and don't plan to start this weekend."

But he was quick to add he's got plenty of good years remaining after his current contract expires.

"Father Time may have an undefeated record but best believe I plan on taking him into triple overtime when it comes to my career," Thomas wrote.

Thomas did not speak with reporters Wednesday. Carroll would not commit to whether Thomas would play against Denver on Sunday in the opener. Seattle received a roster exemption from the league to allow Thomas to practice.

Not surprisingly, Thomas seemed to be universally embraced upon his return, both as the longest-tenured Seahawks player and for the on-field boost he can give to Seattle's overhauled defense. Doug Baldwin said he ran up and gave Thomas a hug when he saw him in a team meeting. Defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. joked he became a better coach.

Linebacker Bobby Wagner understood the dynamics of Thomas' situation.

"I think football is football, business is business. That's coach Carroll and John Schneider, that's business," Wagner said. "At the end of the day you can't really hate a person for wanting to provide for his family. That's how I look at it. He's been playing at a high level, he wanted more money. That's kind of on them."

Thomas is a three-time first-team All-Pro and was the anchor for the Seattle defense that appeared in consecutive Super Bowls, winning the first. Aside from suffering a broken leg late in the 2016 season, Thomas has been a durable starter from the time he arrived in the league. He has missed just seven regular-season games in his career.

His holdout was based on seeking certainty for the long term. He asked for a trade if Seattle wasn't willing to give him a contract extension. The idea of a trade, for now James Hurst Jersey , was squashed by Carroll on Wednesday when he said: "He's a Seahawk. He's always been and will be one forever."

The reality is Thomas will be an unrestricted free agent next spring just before his 30th birthday. In a post for The Players' Tribune earlier this summer, Thomas wrote that he was shaken by the injuries suffered by Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor 鈥?two other members of Seattle's "Legion of Boom" secondary 鈥?in a Thursday night game last season. Sherman ruptured his Achilles tendon, ending his season, and Chancellor suffered a neck injury. Sherman was released by Seattle in the offseason and signed with San Francisco. Chancellor 鈥?while not officially retired 鈥?is not expected to play again because of the injury.

Clearly, Thomas wants security, but he's putting aside his desires for now.

With Thomas out, Seattle has used Tedric Thompson as its primary free safety. Thompson missed the final preseason game with a shoulder stinger and rib injury suffered a week earlier, but was in line to start the opener. If Thomas is ready to play, he'll team with Bradley McDougald at strong safety. The pair played together for the latter half of last season following Chancellor's injury.

"I feel like we figured it out pretty well," McDougald said. "We ended up getting a good connection, a good relationship between us and I feel like we're going to pick up where we left off."

With the NHL playoffs coming around the corner , some of the professional hockey teams are working harder than ever in order to seize a postseason berth sooner than later. The Oakland Raiders finished the NFL draft by taking another risk Craig Smith Jersey , although this one could come with an extremely high payoff.

The Raiders traded up in the fifth round on Saturday to take talented Michigan pass rusher Maurice Hurst, who fell from a projected first-round pick to off some draft boards because of concerns from a heart condition that got him sent home from the combine.

"It's money," Hurst said. "Just upset and disappointed in teams that decided not to pick me. But one got a great player for very little. So I'm very excited to be part of the Raiders organization."

The Raiders traded the 159th and 185th picks to Indianapolis for the 140th pick on Saturday and used it to take a player who might have gone in the first round had he not had health concerns.

But he got sent home from the combine after a heart issue was detected. Hurst said it was something he has dealt with for a long time and hadn't impacted him on the field. He said he has been cleared by doctors at Harvard and Michigan but that didn't prevent his fall.

"It's tough just going into it thinking that you're one of the top players in the draft and having good tape and everything like that," he said. "Just having to wait and see guys that you believe that you're better than go ahead of you, I mean it's tough. But I'm just happy to be in the right place and part of a great organization."

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said the team had no concerns about Hurst's ability to get on the field and said he expected him to take part in rookie minicamp next week. The team will keep monitoring him but he currently has no limitations.

"The fact is that he does have a heart condition but it's a situation where he'll get checked every year but right now he's good," McKenzie said.

Hurst was an All-American and one of the most productive defensive players in the country last season. He had 5陆 sacks as an interior rusher and led all nose tackles and defensive tackles with 49 total quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

"The one thing he can do is work the edge of the offensive linemen," McKenzie said. "He does a good job of maneuvering around that blocking and getting up field."

The move for Hurst was one of several this weekend when the Raiders made high-risk, high-reward moves. They dealt a third-round pick to Pittsburgh on Thursday for talented receiver Martavis Bryant, who has been suspended twice for substance abuse issues.

Oakland then traded up in the third round Friday to take LSU pass rusher Arden Key, who was viewed as a first-round talent but spent time in drug rehabilitation in college.

The Raiders also used two picks on Friday for FCS players whom they believe have the upside to thrive in the NFL in defensive lineman P.J. Hall from Sam Houston State and offensive tackle Brandon Parker of North Carolina A&T.

Here are some other takeaways from draft weekend:

The Raiders started the day Saturday by taking Wisconsin cornerback Nick Nelson with the 110th overall pick. Nelson spent his first two seasons at Hawaii before transferring. He has no career interceptions but did have 21 passes defensed last season. He allowed just 37 percent of passes thrown his way to be caught last season Youth Preston Brown Jersey , according to Pro Football Focus, and might have been taken higher if not for a knee injury during a pre-draft workout with Detroit.

After cutting punter Marquette King last month, the Raiders found his potential replacement in the fifth round Saturday. They took Florida's Johnny Townsend 173rd overall and as the third punter in the fifth round. Townsend is the all-time leading punter for the Gators and averaged 46.2 yards per kick in his career and is known for his skill as a directional punter. This marks the fourth time the Raiders have drafted a punter with Ray Guy making the Hall of Fame and Shane Lechler going to seven Pro Bowls.

McKenzie had mixed emotions when his son, Kahlil, was drafted in the sixth round by the rival Kansas City Chiefs.

"I got a text from Charles Woodson. He said, 'Your son has to retire. There's no way he's going to put that red helmet on his head,'" McKenzie said. "Part of me felt that way but in all seriousness, it's a good opportunity for him."

The Raiders were wheeling and dealing during the draft, making seven trades in all, including the one to acquire Bryant. They moved down in the first round and again in the second, before using some of those extra picks to move up for both of their third-round picks. Oakland then traded up again for Hurst Michael Crabtree Jersey , as only four of the nine players taken came with picks the Raiders had entering the draft.

The Raiders then made a player swap late in the day Saturday, sending disappointing 2016 second-round defensive tackle Jihad Ward to Dallas for receiver Ryan Switzer, a fourth-round pick last year who excelled as a returner as a rookie.

The Raiders went into the draft with needs at inside linebacker and didn't address it until the sixth round when they took Washington's Azeem Victor with the 216th overall pick. Victor was suspended for a DUI charge last season. McKenzie said he has not ruled out bringing back last year's starter NaVorro Bowman, who is still on the free agent market looking for a deal next year.

LOS ANGELES — Two things Clayton Kershaw clearly hates: Being on the disabled list and having pitch restrictions while on the mound.

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ left-hander might be done with both when he takes the mound Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kershaw will be making his third start since coming off the disabled list for his most recent back injury and has been trending in a positive direction.

What Kershaw would like to see is more of the offense the Dodgers showed in Monday’s series opener, when the club scored 17 runs on 21 hits in an easy victory.

Tasked with slowing that offense at Dodger Stadium, while matching Kershaw pitch for pitch, will be Pirates right-hander Ian Nova.

If Kershaw is almost all the way back on top after an injury, Nova is there already. In four starts since coming off the DL because of a sprained right finger, Nova is 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA.

Kershaw is only this far along in his return from the DL because the Dodgers pulled a last-minute switch on June 23, and had him pitch in New York against the Mets instead of with Triple-A Oklahoma City on a rehab outing.

Kershaw threw 55 pitches against the Mets, giving up two runs on five hits over three innings. On June 28 against the Chicago Cubs Authentic Martin Kaut Jersey , Kershaw was back at it, throwing 68 pitches while giving up one run on four hits over five innings.

A natural progression would have Kershaw at about 80 pitches on Tuesday, but Kershaw has a way of getting more out of himself when the situation requires it.

“I’ve proven that I’m healthy,” Kershaw told reporters after his most recent start. “So now, next time out I’m sure the restriction should hopefully be pretty close to off. (I will) get ready and just try to beat an opponent.”

Nova has thrown between 86 and 94 pitches in his four starts since coming off the DL and has given up one or no runs in three of those outings. The one where he did not was on Wednesday at New York. But he did hold the Mets to three runs over six innings, keeping the Pirates close enough to put together a ninth-inning rally for a victory.

That victory was part of a Pirates run where they won four of six games and took series at New York and San Diego. Sure there was a five-game losing streak before that, but going back even further, the Pirates had won four of five.

So even though they were roughed up by the Dodgers on Monday, the Pirates have learned the value of resiliency.

“We’re well aware of what we need to improve upon,” manager Clint Hurdle said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We’re well aware of our monthly progress and then some of our monthly challenges. Love the fact that the game brings attention to specific areas , daily, weekly, monthly, and then I love to watch how some guys are able to fight and battle and work through it.”

Up next is a challenge against Kershaw, who is 2-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 11 career starts against Pittsburgh. The Pirates are one of two National League teams Kershaw has a losing record against in the regular season, along with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Nova knows his way around the Dodgers, going 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in two starts, one in each of the previous two seasons.

TAMPA, Fla. Cheap Toronto Maple Leafs Jerseys . -- An incredulous expression spread across Jameis Winstons face.Yes, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face a difficult challenge of getting themselves back on track without injured leading rusher Doug Martin . However the young quarterback is confident the team is more than capable of winning while the two-time Pro Bowl running back is out.Doug Martin means a lot to this team. ... Hes one of our best players, Winston said Wednesday as the Bucs (1-1) began preparation for Sundays home opener against the Los Angeles Rams (1-1).Martin injured his right hamstring during the first half of last weeks 40-7 loss at Arizona. Hes expected to be sidelined at least three weeks. In his absence, backups Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers, whos only been with the team for a week, figure to assume a heavier workload.Sims accounted for 1,090 all-purpose yards in 2015, but mainly has been a situational, change-of-pace back.Rodgers has started five of 69 games hes appeared in during a six-year career thats included stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears. He made his debut for the Bucs last Sunday, breaking a 24-yard run on his first carry and finishing with a team-best 29 yards on two attempts against the Cardinals.Chuck is a playmaker and Jacquizz made some great runs (last week), Winston said. Im looking forward to seeing them in a full-game atmosphere.Martin was the NFLs second-leading rusher behind Adrian Peterson a year ago, when he ran for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns. Meanwhile, Sims rushed for 529 yards and gained another 561 yards on 51 receptions to give the Bucs a nice one-two tandem.Martin, who signed a five-year, $35 million contract during the offseason, is a two-time 1,000-yard rusher effective running between the tackles as well as in the open field. The 6-foot, 213-pound Sims has more of an upright running style that serves him best when the Bucs are able to get him the ball in open space. The third-year pro has never carried more than 13 times in a game, raising the question whether hes capable of being a featured back.Coach Dirk Koetter and offensive coordinator Todd Monken are confident he can handle the role.Chucks been here long enough and has earned the opportunity, Monken said. There certainly are things that Chuck does differently than Doug. Every running back does, Monken added. There are a few things we may have to do a little bit differently, but really we have to be who we are. ... We anticipate him playing well, and weve got to play well around him.Martin wasnt alone in sitting out practice Wednesday. Defensive end Robert Ayers (ankle), receiver Cecil Shorts III, left tackle Donovan Smith (hip) and tight end Luke Stocker (ankle) are all on the injury report after facing the Cardinals.Koetter offered little in the way of an injury update, especially on Martin, who rushed for 85 yards on 25 carries the past two weeks.Im sure you can understand my point of view is Im not going to sit up here and tell our opponents everything were going to do, the coach said after practice. On Monday, though, he acknowledged that playing without Martin would impact the offense significantly.Even though we feel like we have really good backups at that positon ... when you take a top-level player out, you usually dont have exactly the same caliber player behind him, Koetter said. YAS MARINA, Marina Bay -- Jenson Button said he was sad to be unable to finish one last race for his fans after an early retirement ended his Abu Dhabi Grand Prix early. .Button came to Yas Marina knowing it was his last before a sabbatical from F1, though over the weekend he admitted he was treating it like the final race of his career despite an option to return in 2018. The McLaren drivers evening lasted just 12 laps before a right suspension failure forced him to retire in the pit-lane.After the race, Button was philosophical about his retirement and once again looked ahead to life without F1.I really dont know what the problem was, something failed on the car, he said. Thats something that never happens to us, thats a massive strength of our team, things dont fail, but they did today, of all days. Ive always said you cant change the last, you live in the moment, which is now, and then Ill go and grab a nice cold beer when Im finished with the interviews.I didnt hit anything with that tyre, it was the right front that broke. I havent done anything different from what Ive done for the last 17 years. Its a surprise, but Im glad I was able to figure it out before I hit the brakes going into Turn 11. Anyway, its done, and still massively enjoyed today. For sure the race was short but I enjoyed everything else. Im just sad for my fans and supporters that I wasnt able to finish the race.Button, who is being replaced by Stoffel Vandoorne next year, says the racing and the modern F1 cars are the main things he will miss. What Ill miss is the bit I just did, driving the car, because these cars are amazing pieces of kit. They are also frustrating, at times, but this is the bit that Ill miss. Also the team spirit, that is amazing at McLaren, Ill miss that, but Ill try my best to find something new. .com) - The Calgary Flames aim to bounce back from their first regulation home loss of the campaign on Friday night when they host a Detroit Red Wings club that they swept in three meetings a season ago. . Perhaps Carroll was so prepared for a break because he believes there is very little the Seattle Seahawks need heading into the off-season. "I dont see anything that we need to add. We just have to get better," Carroll said. . On Tuesday, Ottawa placed forward Cory Conacher and defenceman Joe Corvo on waivers as trade rumours swirl around the Senators. INDIANAPOLIS -- The United States Auto Club used the forum of the annual Performance Racing Industry Show to launch a series of new initiatives to improve safety and logistics for competitors.USACs TracSafe package is a system of lights mounted on the dash and the rear of the car linked into the timing and scoring system that will speed up the process of indicating when a caution flag is displayed for an accident or other hazard on the track.TracSafe will be utilized in USACs Sprint Car, Silver Crown and Midget series. As soon as timing and scoring indicates a caution, a yellow light will immediately illuminate on every cars dash, which could be several seconds sooner than when the driver would see a caution flag displayed at the start line or a marshalls stand. The three lights mounted to the rear of the car also function as leader lights that will help spectators follow the race.At a typical dirt track, the people in the tower call Yellow, but there can still be a delay if the flagman doesnt hear the call, plus he has to get out the flag and turn on the light, said USAC President and CEO Kevin Miller. That delay can be 2-4 seconds, and a Sprint Car at Eldora travels a long way in that time.We worked on eliminating that delay, and now when the [scoring] tower goes yellow, the car goes yellow.Miller said that USAC was already working on a leader light system, but a fatal Midget accident in August at the Belleville (Kansas) High Banks involving popular driver Bryan Clauson drew attention to the issue of potential delays in notifying drivers of a caution. It became one of the safety initiatives we were developing, Miller noted. Bryan was hitt by another car, and I dont know what all of the circumstances were, but if you can save one or two seconds, it changes a drivers perspective. .If we can buy one or two seconds, this is worth the cost, because it happens every night.USAC will maintain ownership of the components to make the simple updates to the cars. There will be no cost to competitors. The leader lights are a development of a design introduced in ALMS sports car racing in the early 2000s. One of USACs biggest challenges was developing a self-powered system to keep the TracSafe electronic components functioning in push-start cars that do not feature a battery. We wanted to come up with a similar system, but at a much lower cost for our kind of racing, Miller said. It essentially clips on to the car.USACs MedTag program aims to rapidly provide critical medical information to safety workers attending to an injured driver. A small scanning sticker on each drivers helmet will immediately link to detailed medical records.?Were doing this for every series we sanction, said Miller.USAC has been expanding its net outside of the oval track racing it is famous for. The Indianapolis-based group has taken over sanction of the Pirelli World Challenge road racing series, as well as Formula Drift, Global Rallycross, Robby Gordons Stadium Super Trucks, and TORC off-road racing.?For competitor convenience, USAC is implementing a program called TracPay, in which prize money checks will be replaced by immediate deposits onto reloadable debit cards.
