ST. PAUL New Jersey Devils Hats Womens , Minn. (AP) Connor Hellebuyck bounced back in a big way, just as the Winnipeg Jets were expecting. The 24-year-old goalie turned aside every shot Minnesota could muster, shoving the Wild to the brink of elimination.Mark Scheifele scored both goals for Winnipeg and Hellebuyck made 30 saves for his seventh shutout this season, as the Jets beat the Wild 2-0 on Tuesday night to take a 3-1 lead in the first-round playoff series.”You knew, five to 10 minutes into that game, he was right and feeling good,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said.Scheifele scored with 28 seconds left in the first period, spoiling a fine performance on the other end by Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk, and tacked on an empty-netter with 11 seconds remaining. The Wild, now without star left wing Zach Parise because of a broken sternum suffered late in Game 3, must now win in Winnipeg in Game 5 on Friday night to extend their season.”Certainly can’t fault us in trying. It’s a disappointing finish,” said Dubnyk, who stopped 26 shots. ”It just shows you, too, you never know which plays are going to be the difference in the game.”The Wild were livid about one in particular, when Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey delivered a vicious-looking cross-check to Eric Staal’s neck that knocked Minnesota’s leading scorer to the ice during a Wild power play that went unnoticed by the officials. Morrissey had an assist on Scheifele’s goal and also helped thwart a Wild breakaway later in the game, and a red-faced coach Bruce Boudreau said afterward that Morrissey should have been ejected.”They decided not to call it because we were already on the power play Custom New Jersey Devils Jerseys ,” Boudreau said. ”It cost us the game.”Across the hall, Morrissey adamantly defended his action as accidental.”He’s a big guy, and my stick ended up getting up a little bit on him,” Morrissey said. ”I would never try to do that to anybody. I’m not a dirty player.”Morrissey apologized to Staal later in the game, but that wasn’t any consolation for him or the Wild.”I’m the tallest guy on the ice. He cross-checked me in the neck. There’s not much more you can say. Everyone saw it. I don’t know how no one with stripes saw it,” Staal said. After a six-goal outburst in Game 3 that prompted Maurice to pull Hellebuyck after two periods, only his second early exit of the season, the Wild had trouble generating the same kind of organized and relentless attack. The Jets closed up the holes they gave the Wild through the neutral zone in Game 3, and the Wild simply weren’t as crisp with the puck.Hellebuyck, fittingly, was named earlier in the day one of the NHL’s three finalists for the Vezina Trophy that’s awarded annually to the best goalie in the league.”It definitely added a little more hop to my step. I don’t know if it changed my game too much because I prepare the same way and I do the same things every day,” Hellebuyck said. ”I guess it’s just a nice milestone that me and my family will enjoy.”The crowd, fired up about the opportunity the Wild had to even the series, produced plenty of collective groans after difficult saves by Hellebuyck after jeering him in Game 3 with the customary ”Sieve! Sieve! Sieve!” chant. One of Hellebuyck’s most important stops came in the opening minutes of the second period, when a 3-on-1 rush by the Wild set up Matt Dumba for a wrist try denied with a sprawling glove stop. After a tightly whistled game here Sunday night, there were only three penalties called.Scheifele was part of the sandwich hit with Ben Chiarot late in the third period of Game 3 on Parise that led to a broken sternum for the Wild’s all-time postseason scoring leader, a stunning setback for the home team revealed about four hours before Game 4.The agitation in the arena spiked a little later in the first period , when the Jets kept the puck in the Wild zone after a failed clearing attempt and Kyle Connor fed Scheifele with a slick give-and-go pass for the 1-0 lead right before the first intermission. Then Hellebuyck and the Jets defense took over.”That’s the guy who’s been there all year for us,” Morrissey said.NOTES: Jets defenseman Tyler Myers was out with a lower-body injury suffered in a collision with Marcus Foligno in Game 3. He was replaced by Tucker Poolman, a native of Iowa who played in college at North Dakota, on Winnipeg’s third blue line pairing with Chiarot. … Scheifele had a goal and five assists in four games against the Wild during the regular season. … Tyler Ennis took Parise’s spot, skating with Matt Cullen and Charlie Coyle on a new-look third line. Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway joined Mikko Koivu, and Staal centered Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund. Coyle, Zucker and Niederreiter are without a point in the series.— EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Willie Desjardins realizes the Los Angeles Kings have more than enough time to turn around their dismal start to the season. The interim head coach still wants his Kings to play as if their season and their jobs are on the line in early November.Desjardins ran an energetic practice Monday to begin his tenure with the Kings, who fired John Stevens and assistant coach Don Nachbaur on Sunday in a shakeup of the struggling club. Desjardins didn’t promise any magic solutions to the Kings’ woes, but he plans to impress urgency upon his new players.“I think the theme we had was that we can’t wait,” Desjardins said. “You only have so many years that you have a chance to win, and you’ve got to win now. The easy road would be to say that we can’t do it this season. You can’t afford to waste a season, because you never know what’s going to happen. It’s the same with me. I didn’t know if I would get another shot at the NHL, so this is my chance. I’ve got to make it work, and that’s the same message to the players.“You’ve got to find a way to make this season work. What exactly it is, we’ve got to find out.”Desjardins didn’t land his first NHL head coaching job until he was 57 years old, leading the Vancouver Canucks from 2014-17. After taking the young Canadian national team to Olympic bronze medals last February New York Islanders T-Shirts Womens , he returned home to Medicine Hat, Alberta, and started a hockey school.General manager Rob Blake abruptly called him last week with the chance to take over the struggling Kings, who haven’t returned to the heights they reached during their Stanley Cup championship seasons in 2012 and 2014. Los Angeles still has a wealth of top-end NHL players, including defenseman Drew Doughty, captain Anze Kopitar, forward Jeff Carter and goalie Jonathan Quick, who is injured. After the Canucks fired him, Desjardins didn’t want to return to the NHL as an assistant coach. He was thrilled to get another chance to be a head coach with a team possessing as much talent as the Kings — even if his current contract only lasts until the end of this season.“Coming in here, it’s a great situation,” Desjardins said. “I think there’s lots to work with. Sometimes you have situations where you don’t have much of a chance to be successful. They’ve got a lot of good pieces here. There’s some really quality people within this team, some high-end guys.”The Kings are in a funk at 4-8-1 heading into their Freeway Faceoff showdown with the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Desjardins said he can’t immediately shake up the Kings’ playing style, so he will lean on assistant coach Dave Lowry as he attempts to get better results from the same players and largely the same schemes used under Stevens for now.“It’s hard, because one of the big things you need from players and coaches, you’ve got to have some trust,” Desjardins said. “And trust is gained over time, but we don’t have time for that. You’ve got to trust each other right now. That’s harder to do New York Islanders Hoodies Womens , but we’ve got to do it.”Blake sharply criticized his players’ competitiveness and determination while firing Stevens. The veteran Kings didn’t disagree with their boss after their first workout under Desjardins.“It’s rather apparent that you can’t be successful in this league, or in life in general, if you don’t have the emotion and the passion,” Kings defenseman Alec Martinez said. “That’s what we’ve learned this week.”Carter was particularly dismayed by the players’ role in the departure of Stevens, who also was his coach in Philadelphia before Stevens was fired during the 2008-09 season.“I think the world of him,” Carter said of Stevens. “A lot of guys in here do. I guess that needs to be a big wakeup call for everybody in this room that we need to get our act together. We haven’t played good enough hockey, that’s the bottom line. It’s compete. It’s energy. It’s everybody doing their job.”Desjardins doesn’t expect to fix everything quickly, but he has the winter to work on it. His family is staying in Alberta for now, so Desjardins plans to devote pretty much every waking hour to his work — and there is plenty to work on.The Kings are the NHL’s lowest-scoring team with 28 goals in their 13 games, with meager shot creation and an inconsistent power play. They’re also not playing up their traditional defensive standards, allowing 45 goals after finishing last season as the NHL’s stingiest team.“It means we’re not getting the job done, and that’s the disappointing part,” Los Angeles defenseman Dion Phaneuf said. “Ultimately it’s on us as players. When a change is made, it’s not about the coaching staff. It’s about us not getting the job done.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) William Karlsson put a spectacular bow on a surprising Pacific Division championship for expansion Vegas.Karlsson scored a short-handed goal in the third period Edmonton Oilers Hats Authentic , and the Golden Knights clinched the title with a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.”It’s a great feeling to win our division. San Jose (44-25-10) is second in the Pacific, four points ahead of Los Angeles.”It’s a great accomplishment, but we all know what the real accomplishment is gonna be,” Gallant said. ”A great regular season means a lot, but a great playoffs can mean a lot more.”For the second straight night Custom Edmonton Oilers Jerseys , Karlsson scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway, this time with what might have been his sweetest of 42 goals this season – between his legs to beat Martin Jones top shelf for the game-winner.”I kind of had a great spot there to pull that move … it’s instinct, when you black out, that’s usually when you do good – don’t overthink it,” Karlsson said. ”It was a great game, a lot of fun to play. OTTAWA Custom Minnesota Wild Jerseys , Ontario (AP) Disgruntled Ottawa Senators fans want owner Eugene Melnyk to know exactly how they feel. Their message is hard to miss.Four billboards with the message (hash)MelnykOut went up at four spots across the city Monday thanks to a GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $10,000 in less than a month. The fund was started by fan Spencer Callaghan, whose frustration with Melnyk reached a breaking point amid talk that captain Erik Karlsson might be traded. On the GoFundMe page launched Feb. 23, Callaghan wrote: ”Eugene Melnyk has decided that he would rather tear the team down and sell it for spare parts than admit he can no longer run it effectively. Sens fans and the city of Ottawa need to step up to save a pillar of this community.”He said billboards are a way for fans to be heard, and he contends ownership has driven off players and front-office staff. And, he adds, this is not just about this season , but ”a series of decisions over a long period of time.”The Senators advanced to the Eastern Conference final last season but will miss the playoffs. Karlsson’s future in Ottawa remains unknown, adding to fans’ unease. The billboards are scheduled to be up for two weeks, with a fifth going up April 2. General manager Pierre Dorion, when asked about the billboards, said he’s ”not talking about that.”For all his anguish, Callaghan does not discount the possibility of the Senators eventually turning things. But he has grave doubts.”It requires some collaboration,” he said. ”It requires some humility and it requires some listening and I haven’t seen any desire on the part of the organization to do that.”The Twitter hashtag (hash)MelnykOut was launched in December by a fan after the Senators owner threatened to move the team if he didn’t see better fan support. And it wasn’t the Indians and the Phillies. The Cleveland Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 5-0 in their dress rehearsal game Greg Joseph Jersey Elite , improving to 2-1 this preseason. It was definitely an unusual game. The Browns had a nice drive going in the first half with the running game as RB Carlos Hyde rumbled for 33 yards up the right sideline. A nice run by RB Nick Chubb and then an acrobatic play by TE David Njoku set Cleveland up at the 1-yard line on 1st-and-goal.What ensued was offensive coordinator Todd Haley calling four pass plays from the 1 yard line, none of which worked. On the last play, QB Tyrod Taylor landed awkwardly on his left hand as his pass fell incomplete. He had to leave the game, but later returned to finish out the second half (whew). The Browns’ defense thrived during the first half, forcing four turnovers and one safety. Here is the safety on QB Nick Foles, which was one of DE Myles Garrett’s two sacks on the evening to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead. The Browns’ first turnover came near the end of the first quarter when rookie DE Genard Avery forced a fumble on Foles with DE Emmanuel Ogbah recovering:A 54-yard field goal by K Zane Gonzalez made it a 5-0 game. The Eagles later had one final crack at things, and their 4th-and-5 from just beyond midfield was complete for a first down. A sack by LB B.J. Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.Even if they did not want to admit it.The Browns offense was never able to get anything going in the 38-14 loss as they were just six-of-16 on third down Youth Denzel Ward Jersey , had just 317 yards of total offense, and looked completely out-of-sync for much (most?) of the game.It was disappointing but not exactly surprising, given that rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield is still learning the ropes. But what is a bit more concerning is that the game against the Chargers was not exactly an aberration.Since taking a 42-34 lead against the Oakland Raiders late in the fourth quarter of their Week 4 game, the Browns offense has run 31 offensive drives. And the numbers are very ugly. On those 31 drives:17 have ended with a punt17 have consisted of five or less plays24 have gained less than 40 yardsThat is in no way a recipe for success, but it is also not a reason to panic. (At least not panic a lot.)Despite the excitement of the past few weeks, the Browns were never going to make a run at the playoffs. The team has come a long way in the opening weeks of the season, but expecting the Browns to go from 1-31 to a playoff spot - no matter how many new players were imported - was simply unrealistic. As much promise as Mayfield brings to the quarterback position - which is considerable - he is still a rookie who is seeing opposing defenses adjust on a weekly basis. He may not be getting much help from the coaching staff, either Youth Jabrill Peppers Jersey , who continue to give running back Carlos Hyde (2.9 yards per carry on 14 rushes against the Chargers) more work than his numbers would indicate. Head coach Hue Jackson’s weekly claim that the Browns “need to give Nick Chubb more carries” was once again empty on Sunday, as Chubb had his customary three carries despite averaging 8.3 yards per carry. The Browns at least remembered that Duke Johnson was on the team this week as he averaged 18.2 yards on six touches (two rushes and four receptions). It may not have ultimately made a difference, but putting the ball in the hands of Chubb and Johnson on a day when wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Antonio Callaway combined for just four receptions and 20 yards on 19 targets may not have been a bad idea. This isn’t to imply that all hope is loss, but rather just a realization that the Browns are still a team finding its way, especially on offense. Deep down, Browns fans knew a day like today was a possibility.Hopefully as the weeks roll by day’s like today become the rare norm, rather than a weekly occurrence. The Cleveland Browns were on the short end of one of the strangest replay reviews in recent NFL history. After running back Carlos Hyde appeared to achieve what would like have been a game-clinching first down with 1:32 left on the clock, the on-field call was reversed by the replay official , who called for a review of the play. The call was overturned, Browns National howled in disbelief - as did many non-Browns fans - and the Browns would eventually go on to lose the game in overtime. On Monday, the NFL came up with an explanation for why it overturned a play that did not seem to have enough evidence to change the on-field call of a first down. According to an article by ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, an NFL spokesman said the replay official “pieced together” two angles of the play to come to the conclusion that Hyde was short of the first-down marker:Seems like the replay official did a lot of extra work to try and find a reason to overturn the call.Browns head coach Hue Jackson took the right approach about the questionable decision during his Monday press conference, according to replay was far from conclusive and it was surprising to just about everyone when the call was overturned. But that doesn’t mean the Browns defense has to turn around and let the Raiders drive down the field for a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game. Even so, this is one of those games that is going to sting for a while.

Cleveland signed free agent Breshad Perriman after injuries to Rashard Higgins and Derrick Willies cut into the depth of an already inexperienced group.Perriman Kevin Zeitler Jersey , a former first-round draft pick, worked out for Cleveland on Saturday, a day after Willies broke his collarbone during practice. The Browns placed Willies on injured reserve, but there is hope he might be able to play again later this season. An undrafted rookie, Willies came off the bench last week against Baltimore after Higgins injured his right knee and made the game's biggest play, a 39-yard reception in overtime that set up Cleveland's game-winning field goal. Willies finished with three catches for 61 yards.Willies was set to be Cleveland's No. 3 receiver in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but his injury will give rookie Damion Ratley more playing time. The Browns (2-2-1) have only Ratley, Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway and Rod Streater to face the Chargers (3-2). Streater and Ratley have not caught passes this season. It's unlikely Perriman will be active after just joining the team Authentic JC Tretter Jersey , but the 25-year-old could be an option going forward.Perriman has not lived up to expectations since the Ravens selected him with the No. 26 overall pick in 2015. Ricardo Louis - Backup Wide ReceiverHeight: 6-2 | Weight: 215 lbs | Age: 24Experience: 3 years | College: AuburnThe hype train was heavy for Ricardo Louis heading into last year’s training camp after he had worked with Brandon Marshall in the offseason. With Josh Gordon set to be out for awhile and Kenny Britt being a massive disappointment, Louis got the best opportunity he could’ve asked for to showcase his talent. It wasn’t enough.Louis started 9 games last year and finished the season with 27 catches for 357 yards. Once Gordon returned from suspension, Louis was completely phased out of the offense for those final five weeks, collecting just 1 catch for 35 yards. Embarrassingly, Louis finished the 2017 season as the Browns’ leading wide receiver.Louis has good speed, but has not been able to overcome his propensity for dropping passes. Rashard Higgins - Backup Slot ReceiverHeight: 6-1 | Weight: 198 lbs | Age: 23Experience: 3 years | College: Colorado StateAfter spending all of training camp working with Duke Johnson as the team’s slot receiver in 2017, and then playing him there in Week 1, the team abandon that strategy in Week 2. They re-signed Rashard Higgins, who was originally cut, and made him the slot receiver against the Ravens, where he blew up for 7 catches for 95 yards on 11 targets. Almost the entire rest of the season, he would get 1-2 catches per week for about 15 yards. Then in Week 17 Youth Terrance Mitchell Jersey , he blew up again with 3 catches for 68 yards and the first 2 touchdowns of his NFL career.I like Higgins. I think he can be an average slot receiver in the NFL, as he has shown good hands more times than not. Unfortunately, he faces a situation in which Jarvis Landry will have that role clamped down, and I just don’t think he is skilled enough to make an impact as an outside receiver. Higgins should stick around in camp in case something happens to Landry, but I don’t think he will make the final roster either. On the fun side, he did have an amusing “where yall at...?” comment back in March in response to an Instagram post by Jarvis Landry working with some of the Browns’ receivers.Final Roster Odds: 40%Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports7. Jeff Janis - Veteran Backup ReceiverHeight: 6-3 | Weight: 219 lbs | Age: 27Experience: 5 years | College: Saginaw Valley StateJeff Janis was a 7th round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2014. He has played in 51 games over the past four seasons, but only has 17 catches for 200 yards and 1 touchdown. The area he has made an impact has been on special teams, where he has 22 career tackles and has returned 23 kickoffs for 568 yards (24.7 yards per return).Janis is most known for his postseason heroics a couple of seasons ago, when he caught 7 catches for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns , including 2 bombs from Aaron Rodgers to create of the more amazing playoff Hail Mary’s you’ll see. There are many Packers fans who believe the team should have utilized Janis a lot more during his time in Green Bay. He also spent some time on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad last year, and then Cleveland signed him to their practice squad heading into the final week of the regular season.Last year, Board said he knew he wasn’t going to be drafted, but teams’ interest in him turned up because he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash during his Pro Day. Baltimore reportedly liked his speed as an outside receiving option and also believed he could compete for a spot on special teams. team wins Buccaneers Beau Allen Jersey , there will always be a time where it gets beat by another team at some point. However, at some point during the season a team has to start winning or else they can kiss their chances at the postseason goodbye. That time is now for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After winning their first two games in electric fashion, the Bucs have come crashing back down to earth after consecutive losses put them at 2-2.But it’s not the losses themselves, it’s how Tampa Bay lost those games that have left many wondering how the rest of this season will play out. Just like 2017, the defense was a sieve and the offense was very inconsistent. The same issues that plagued the team last year cropped up in a big way and if they don’t get them fixed then Tampa Bay may finish with an even worse record this year. This weekend represents a major opportunity for the Bucs to answer a lot of the questions that currently surround the franchise - at least for another week, anyway. Coming off a bye and facing a depleted 1-4 Falcons squad is just what this team needs after getting owned in Chicago. It’s a matchup of two teams that have major firepower on the offensive side of the ball but have non-existent defenses due to injuries and other factors. Tampa Bay also has a slight advantage considering both Dirk Koetter and Mike Smith oversaw Matt Ryan and Julio Jones earlier in their careers, but as our own James Yarcho recently pointed out, they still haven’t been able to stop either player. As the season wears on, the better teams are beginning to establish themselves. Unfortunately for the Bucs, they have to keep pace with both the Saints and Panthers - two teams that are currently above them in the division standings. NFC South standings after Week 5NFC South StandingsWinsLossesTie(s)Win %PFPASTRKNFC South StandingsWinsLossesTie(s)Win %PFPASTRKThe Saints showed against the Redskins that they are for real, making Tampa Bay’s victory over them in Week 1 even more important than it already was. It also makes one wonder how in the hell they beat them in the first place. What’s even more important is that despite the past two games, the Bucs still hold the second wildcard spot in the playoff race. Their conference record is key. At 2-1 with big wins over the Saints and Eagles Buccaneers Vinny Curry Jersey , a victory over the Falcons would help pad that lead.A victory on Sunday would all but end the Falcons’ season as well. If a team has a chance to step on a divisional foe’s throat, it’s imperative they take full advantage of that opportunity. No one in the Bay area wants to see the Falcons hanging around at the end of the season. The Bucs will depend on Winston in a major way this weekendPhoto by Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesA loss could also drop the Bucs as many as four spots in the playoff race depending on what happens with the Packers, Vikings, Seahawks, and Eagles. You’re playing with fire if get in a playoff race with those four teams. There is one glimmer of hope should the Bucs lose this weekend. Their remaining schedule is one of the easiest in the league with a 27-29-1 record, while their NFC opponents hold an 18-24 mark. But this week doesn’t just represent potential future scenarios for Tampa Bay, it also represents the present. Can this coaching staff make the correct, needed adjustments after an entire week off? Can this team muster up a good effort after a terrible loss? Just how far have they really come since last season?History isn’t on the Bucs’ side, either. They’ve lost three straight to the Falcons and are 4-6 in Atlanta over the past ten meetings. To say this team is under pressure would be an accurate statement. How they respond to said pressure will be a big statement. But the biggest statement of all would be a win in Atlanta this weekend. It’s your move, Tampa Bay.Monken Opens Up About The Offense Todd Monken took some time to speak with the media about the Buccaneers’ high octane offense and how they were so successful against the Saints - and the problems the Eagles can create. The Bucs are entering the week two matchup with the number two offense in terms of yards and number one in points. That shouldn’t be a huge surprise outside of the fact that they did it with their backup quarterback. This team is overflowing with playmakers and talent on the offensive side of the ball and should have one of the best offenses in all of football. At the end of the day, it’s all about execution. The Bucs’ offensive minds spend a lot of time game planning and preparing for their opponent, but it goes beyond that. They have to call the right plays and the players have to execute those;“First of all Cheap Vita Vea Jersey , I thought lead by Coach Koetter, I thought our offensive staff put together a really good plan. That’s the first part – putting together a plan. We’ve got really good players and I thought they executed the plan about as well as you could. I thought our receivers did a great job with our route running. We had really good protection. Fitz was very accurate – really good with his decision making. Got us into some really good plays. I don’t think we expected that much man coverage, but we did get it. It’s not all the time you – sometimes you get it and you don’t take advantage of it and I thought our guys took advantage of that and that’s a credit to the players. I really feel like it’s a byproduct of how we practiced. You can see that – you guys can’t always see that, but we see that. We saw it in the preseason. We saw a lot of things being done better.”One of the key things that gets overlooked - and Monken mentions it in the quote above - was the protection. The Saints got zero sacks and ended the game ranked in the bottom three in the NFL in quarterback pressures. Ultimately, Fitz had an eternity to make throws and he capitalized on them. The unsung heroes of the passing game were Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers. Their ability to pick up blitzes and keep Fitz’s pocket clean was vital;“I thought our backs did a nice job. I thought our guys up front did a really nice job of protecting. At times, we got the ball out quickly – we went quickly at times. I thought our plan was really good again headed up by coach in terms of how want to take away some of their game-wreckers – especially 94 (Cameron Jordan), so that was good, which we did at times. Like I said, there were other times when we got a little leakage – Fitz got the ball out.”This is the perfect example of what Monken is talking about;Monken needs to be as on point Sunday as he was against the Saints in his play calling and hopefully Koetter is ready. Yes, Koetter’s game planning coming off an opening week win hasn’t exactly been stellar. Koetter is now 3-0 in week one as an NFL head coach, but he’s 0-2 in week two suffering blowout losses to the Cardinals in 2016 (40-7) and Vikings in 2017 (34-17)

von liny195 22.11.2018 08:26 , Tampa Bay was absolutely blasted by the Chicago Bears on Sunday. You can’t really put it into words. It was UGLY. It was downright embarrassing for the Buccaneers. After starting 2-0, this team has quickly reverted back to its old form and there are a lot of questions to answer during the bye week. Tampa Bay has the second worst defensive in the league and is allowing 358 yards through the air per game.Something has to change. Whether it’s the coaching staff, some of the coverages, blitz packages. It’s all a mess right now.Winners1. DeSean JacksonDeSean Jackson has rebounded from a rough first season with Tampa Bay and he’s recorded 100 receiving yards or more in three of the teams first four games. He was at it again on Sunday against the Bears. Jackson caught a 48-yard pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Buccaneers third possession that helped them cut the deficit to 14-3. Later in the first half, Fitzpatrick and Jackson hooked up again for a 42-yard gain. The former Philadelphia Eagle and Washington Redskin has already recorded 424 recieving yards and three touchdowns this season for the Bucs. He had a total of 668 yards and three scores a season ago. The most insane part of Jackson’s play has been his knack to come away with huge gains. He’s averaging a career-high 24.9 yards per catch right now. If he stays within that range as Jameis Winston returns to the starting spot, look for Jackson to finish the year with a big season.2. Jason Pierre-PaulOn a day where Tampa Bay’s defense got torched, Jason Pierre-Paul was one of the lone bright spots. He finished with a team-high seven tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack.Pierre-Paul was consistent all afternoon in putting pressure on Mitchell Trubisky. He brought the second-year quarterback down in the first-quarter to net his fourth sack in four games. If Pierre-Paul continues to produce at this rate, he’ll be the first Buccaneer to record double-digit sacks in a season since Simeon Rice did it back in 2005. 3. Bryan Anger/Chandler CatanzaroDespite Tampa Bay’s defense falling apart and the offense stalling, the specialists still performed well in the loss to Chicago.Anger was forced to punt five times and he averaged 42.8 yards per kick, which is right on par with his season average. He also dropped one punt inside the 20-yard line, obviously that didn’t help the Buccaneers defense very much. As for Catanzaro, the fifth-year kicker continued to add to his solid season. He knocked in 30-yard field and an extra point in the blowout loss. However, Catanzaro is 5/6 on field goals and 13/14 on extra points. Solid kicking is something the Bucs have missed in recent seasons. Losers1. Mike Smith/DefenseIt was an ugly Sunday for Mike Smith and his defense against Chicago. Seriously, it’s hard to remember a Tampa Bay game where they were worse on defense and that’s saying something. The Bears scored five touchdowns and field goal in the first half on only seven total possessions. They made Trubisky and his wide receivers look like the greatest show on turf. Trubisky threw for 354 yards and six touchdowns while not turning the ball over. He threw the most touchdowns in a first half by a Bears quarterback in over 50 years. Chicago had 483 yards of offense and 28 first downs while converting 50%of its third downs. Lost in the midst of a 2-0 start, Tampa Bay’s defense wasn’t seen as a big enough issue as it is due to the offensive explosion. However, this Mike Smith led defense has allowed at least 30 points in three of its four games.Like I said above, something has to change here and quickly. It doesn’t matter how good the Buccaneers offense is if the defense falls apart like sand on a rock.3. Offensive lineTampa Bay’s offensive line did a great job of protecting the quarterback during the first two weeks of the season but they’ve taken a step backward in losses to Pittsburgh and Chicago. After allowing just two sacks in the first two games, the Buccaneers have surrendered a whopping seven sacks in two weeks Vernon Hargreaves III Jersey , culminating with a season-high four against the Bears. It wasn’t pretty up front. This team has struggled to run the ball consistently all season and when they can’t protect the quarterback, it all falls apart on offense. The Bucs averaged just 3.3 yards per carry and allowed Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick to each be sacked twice. This unit has to get back on the same page over the bye week.3. Mike Smith/DefenseYep, you’re reading this correctly. They were that bad.Honorable loser1. Mike Smith/DefenseJust in case I haven’t hammered the point home by now.Monken calls plays, Tampa Bay has flawless offensive performance Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter likes calling plays, and has done it his whole career. But his offense was widely criticized last year for being predictable and inefficient; specifically, his insistence on running the ball early in first quarters and on first downs, one of Koetter’s tenets, actually helped to put the Bucs in huge holes early in games, forcing them to become one dimensional and pass to catch up late in games. This is because passing is far more efficient than running and statistically leads to less punts and more points, and the Bucs’ running game wasn’t good; this gave their opponents a huge advantage as they passed early instead and opened leads while the Bucs continued to put themselves in 3rd and long situations that are difficult to convert. Unfortunately, the Bucs also had the worst defense in the league, leaving the offense stuck fighting a war that was impossible to win. Tampa Bay limped to a 5-11 record. But those alleged issues with his play calling didn’t just hurt the Bucs last year - it hurt them the year before, too. In fact, under Dirk Koetter’s play calling in 2016 and 2017 nobody rushed more on first downs early in games than the Bucs, almost 66% of the time, despite the fact that the passing game yielded more than twice the yardage on average than the running game and a much higher success rate.Coming into the 2018 season Dirk Koetter was on the hot seat; the Bucs tried to overhaul their defensive line in an effort to improve the defense, and fans wondered what changes the Bucs might make to their offense. But if there were going to have any success they would need to change how they approached games. Specifically, they needed throw, and throw early and often. The question was whether Koetter was willing to set aside his ego and turn play calling over to his offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who was previously the head coach of Southern Miss. It’s not that anyone thought or knew Monken was better than Koetter at calling plays Authentic Ryan Jensen Jersey , or even good at it, just that it was obvious Koetter was not, or that he was too resistant to change. So it was a pleasant surprise when it was announced that Monken would call plays in the preseason. While it was a gamble for Koetter, it was also a big admission, and one that could not have been easy to make. It paid off in a good way during the preseason, and the Bucs’ offense, and especially their quarterbacks, played lights-out football. It was obvious to everyone watching what needed to happen. But could Koetter let it go? It was reportedly a hard decision for him; once you go, you can’t go back, and it was one of the things he enjoyed most about coaching. He kept it a secret right up until kick-off today and even then, he had a copy of the play sheet in his hands. But the announcers for Fox Sports confirmed that Monken was indeed calling plays (from the booth), and his debut could not have gone any better. Fitzpatrick was incredible, with several deep bombs on the money. Monken mixed up the pass and the run, and at halftime the Bucs were cruising along at an unbelievable 9.6 yards per play. They had eight plays of 20+ yards. They weren’t just creating scoring opportunities, they were converting them as well, going two for three in the red zone with touchdowns, and had 31 points, a franchise record for one half. The second half was more of the same, and the Bucs finished with 48 points, tied for a franchise record Youth Vinny Curry Jersey , and 8.5 yards per play. Ryan Fitzpatrick finished 21-28 for 417 yards and four touchdowns, a 14.9 yards per attempt average. That average should be the highest of his entire thirteen-year career. The offense’s 8.5 yards per play is the team’s highest since 2012 and the second-highest going back to 2000. Of the 4,352 total regular season NFL games since 2000, 8.5 yards per play would rank in the top 50.Even the offensive line looked really good, and didn’t allow a sack. The whole thing was glorious. Amazing. It was the inside of Marcellus Wallace’s briefcase. Bask in it’s glow. But it was so good, it’s also unsustainable. That’s okay! This game was one for the record books. And they did it versus what was a top ten defense last season. But we still have to acknowledge that the Bucs’ defensive performance was just as equally bad. Perhaps forcing a fumble is a skill, but once the ball is on the ground, it’s 50/50, pure luck. The Bucs recovered both of the Saints’ fumbles. A few unlucky bounces and the Bucs could have easily wasted this offensive performance. About the only thing that went wrong for the Bucs was kicker Chandler Catanzaro’s miss that would have iced the game with a three-score lead. The Saints scored 16 points in the final quarter, and Tampa is now 1-0 in one-score games in 2018. The Bucs also finished only converting two of their four red zone opportunities into touchdowns, while the Saints converted four of five.Despite trying to bring this game into some grounded perspective, it is now impossible for Koetter to go back to calling plays next week. As Monken called them up, Koetter would mark them off on his play sheet, so he’s still clearly very much involved. But unless the offense falters several games in a row it appears to be Monken’s responsibility going forward.Bucs Nation will have more on exactly what Monken did to attack the Saints’ defense in film review, but for now, let’s celebrate!

.The young quarterback's three-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy ended after Monday night's 30-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is unclear , however, if he's coming back as the starter.Ryan Fitzpatrick has made the decision a lot tougher than expected by throwing for more than 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in Winston's absence, including going 30 of 50 for 411 yards and three TDs against the Steelers.Dirk Koetter repeatedly shrugged off questions about his plans while Winston was away. And now that his return is imminent, the coach is still not saying."Let's see what the injury report (says)," Koetter said Monday night, sidestepping the question once again."Anytime we have these games, it's not always obvious how the guys are going to come in the next day and come in on Wednesday," the coach added. "Let's see what happens. I mean, I'd love to get a chance to talk to Jameis face to face before I tell the rest of the world."Ben Roethlisberger threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns for the Steelers (1-1-1), who built a 20-point lead and held on for their first win despite not scoring in the second half.Pittsburgh's defense forced four first-half turnovers, including three interceptions of Fitzpatrick, the 35-year-old journeyman quarterback who's led the Bucs to a 2-1 start while throwing for more than 400 yards in each game."You know, I have so much fun playing this game. I have fun playing with these guys, and I'm here just ready to do whatever it takes to help the team win Youth Carlton Davis Jersey ," Fitzpatrick said. "I think that will be my mindset going forward."Winston started 45 of 48 games over the first three years of his career. He was suspended following the NFL's investigation of an accusation that in March 2016 he groped a female Uber driver during a ride in Scottsdale, Arizona."We love Jameis. He's a member of our team, and we're anxious to get him back," Koetter said. " He'll be great in our locker room and . whatever role that he ends up in, I know Jameis will embrace that role and give it everything's he got."Some takeaways from Steelers-Buccaneers:WHAT TURMOIL?The Steelers capped a tumultuous week in which star receiver Antonio Brown made headlines by shouting at an assistant coach on the sidelines and getting into a spat on social media with a former team employee.Brown scored on a 27-yard reception, Ryan Switzer caught 1-yard TD pass from Roethlisberger, and Vance McDonald stiff-armed safety Chris Conte to break into the clear on a 75-yard pass play that got the Steelers going early.Roethlisberger's on-field chemistry with Brown appeared fine in the first game since the receiver responded to a former team employee on social media by suggesting the club trade him if it wants to find out how productive he can be without Roethlisberger."I still think the biggest issue was outside the locker room, people perceiving different things," Roethlisberger said. "Not saying we don't have issues. All teams have issues, and there's different things going on. But I think it was made a bigger issue than it really was."FLAGS, FLAGS, FLAGSThe teams combined for five roughing-the-passer penalties, most in an NFL game since 2001, as fans around the league continue to gripe about flags being thrown for what appear to be routine tackles. Pittsburgh was flagged three times for hits on Fitzpatrick, and the Bucs were called twice for roughing Roethlisberger. In all White Peyton Barber Jersey , the Steelers were penalized 13 times for 155 yards. Tampa Bay had nine penalties for 80 yards. The Bucs also had a holding penalty that wiped out what would have been an 80-yard punt return for a TD by DeSean Jackson."I thought the penalties kind of marred the game. There were a lot of penalties on us and on them," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "We'll look at it and learn from it, but I thought the guys played extremely hard."COMEBACKTampa Bay made it close by keeping Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh's high-powered offense on the sideline for long stretches of the second half. Fitzpatrick led a long field goal drive that consumed nearly eight minutes of the third quarter. The Steelers used most of the remainder of the period to move into position for a 47-yard field goal that Chris Boswell missed. The Bucs used TD catches by Chris Godwin and Mike Evans to pull within 30-27. They got the ball back with just over three minutes left, but the Steelers defense forced a punt and Roethlisberger ran out the clock."I thought our defense played awesome, creating turnovers, short field, making some stops," Roethlisberger said. "I told this team afterwards that was a total team win, all the phases. That's what Steeler football is all about."Report: Bucs will ride hot hand at QB and Winston’s fine with it The debate of whether or not the Buccaneers will keep franchise quarterback Jameis Winston benched was stirred up this past week after Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Week 1 performance against the New Orleans Saints. Keeping Winston benched on a short week when he returnsfrom suspension Week 4 was possible. Now it seems to be reality, but with games to follow.According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tampa Bay may continue to have Winston sit on the bench if Fitzpatrick continues to play well. This is also apparently agreed upon by Winston. That last paragraph sounds like Winston. He’s always been about the team first ahead of himself. However, Rapoport does note later on that Winston will eventually return. He adds that the team’s success with the current group of receivers, the play from the offensive line, and playcalling from offensive coordinator Todd Monken has the team anxious to see what Winston can do. They won’t keep him shelved for long.

The New York Giants crossed the 30-point threshold last week vs. the Carolina Panthers for the first time in 38 games , including their 2016 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. That was a good step, but if the Giants are going to play consistently good offense they are going to have to find a way to limit the incredibly high number of negative plays they have been enduring.Against the Carolina Panthers the Giants had six negative runs in 15 attempts, four offensive penalties and a sack. That’s 11 negative plays in 60 potential snaps. For the season, the Giants now have 60 negative plays in 339 potential snaps — 17.6 percent. The Giants’ defense got off to a great start, after the Giants won the coin toss and elected to defer, racking up three sacks in the first half and managing to contain the Falcons’ explosive offense. Olivier Vernon, Kerry Wynn, Lorenzo Carter, and B.W. Webb all got to Matt Ryan in the first half. Unfortunately, the Giants’ offense proved incapable of capitalizing on the opportunities and momentum created by their defense. The offense started off on the right foot Womens Janoris Jenkins Jersey , looking downfield to Odell Beckham Jr., who averaged 19 yards per catch in the first half. However, the Giants’ offensive line, which has been bad all season, completely disintegrated in the face of the Falcons’ pass rush. The line largely failed to run block for Saquon Barkley and allowed multiple jail breaks when Eli Manning would drop back to pass. The Falcosn managed to sack Manning four times in the first half. The Giants’ defense finally broke when the Falcons had a 3-play, 86 yard touchdown drive to put them up 7-0. The Giants responded by driving the length of the field, including a 38-yard reception from Sterling Shepard Womens Landon Collins Jersey , but failed to punch the ball into the endzone. Instead the team settled for a 31-yard field goal from Aldrick Rosas. Cornerback Eli Apple left the field with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable to return. To compensate, slot corner B.W. Webb moved outside and UDFA rookie Grant Haley came in the slot. The Falcons kicked a field goal with 8 seconds remaining to stretch their lead to 10-3.The Giants will get the ball to start the second half.

Good morning Cheap Jon Halapio Jersey , , but some Giants certainly could be moved before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline. Let’s look at some of the headlines while we wait to see if any real action takes place.Worst team in the NFL?Olivier Vernon, one of the players about whom there is trade speculation, was asked directly if it felt like he played for the league’s worst team.“Not at all, but our record is what our record is,” Vernon said.” We can’t say anything but that our record is 1-7 right now.”Seven sacks? Seriously?Eli Manning was sacked seven times on Sunday and has now been sacked 31 times. At that pace, he would be sacked 62 times over 16 games. The most he has ever been sacked in a season is 39 times. What did Manning think of the sacks on Sunday?“Each one has its own story. Some of them were coverage things, some of them were getting beat and some were that I have to do a better job getting the ball out,” he said. “Each one has its own reason.”About that killer interceptionManning, of course, was asked to explain the red zone interception by D.J. Swearinger on a throw intended for Odell Beckham Jr.“Just missed him. Thought Odell was going to be able to run by him and the guy passed him off better than I thought,” Manning siad. “I thought he might run with the corner route. He came off right away and drove on it. I thought Odell was going to go get by him. Bad decision by me.”Odell has no answersThe Giants are now 28th in the league in scoring at 18.8 points per game. That is largely because they are 31st in the league in red zone touchdowns, getting in only 40 percent of the time. “I don’t have an answer for that [why the Giants can’t score],” Beckham said. “It doesn’t make sense. I feel like we should be doing better and we’re not. This is where we’re at. When we get down in the red zone, we have to score.”Saquon still believesRookie running back Saquon Barkley hasn’t tossed in the towel on the 2018 season.“I said before, it sucks that we’re losing. Obviously, I’m a competitor, we’re all competitors in this locker room, and we hate losing. I know you lose more in the NFL, because you definitely play a lot more games, but I guess you can say I’m disappointed, I’m upset , we’re all upset,” Barkley said. “We’re 1-7 right now. It’s not where we want to be. We know we’re much better than our record. That’s not where we’re at right now. We just got to find a way to do better.”Barkley still thinks the Giants can turn things around over the final eight games.“I don’t feel like there’s enough in this room to get ourselves out this situation, I know there is, and I truly, truly believe that. I believe in this team. I believe in this offense. I believe in every single player on our team,” he said. “I know we got the talent. I know we got the coaching staff. At the end of the day, it comes down to finishing drives and executing, and that’s what we haven’t been doing.”Around the Inter-GoogleGiants must prepare Kyle Lauletta to take Eli Manning's placePat Shurmur must elevate rookie Kyle Lauletta to No. 2 and let him get enough first-team reps to be able to function comfortably, sooner rather than later.Giants offensive line left Eli Manning unacceptably unprotectedKhalil Mack wasn’t rushing the quarterback. The Giants, at 1-7, are at the midpoint of their season. With that in mind, let’s hand out some midseason “Kudos & Wet Willies.”This isn’t going to be long. We have talked at length in many ways about the avalanche of bad and the tiny slivers of good this season. So, I’m not going in-depth on anything here. This is just a high-level hit.As usual, I’m sure you will let me know what you agree or disagree with.QuarterbackEli Manning has Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley at his disposal. Yet, he has only eight touchdown passes in eight games and leads an offense scoring only 18.8 points per game, much of it in garbage time. The offensive line is terrible and that’s a major part of it, but he hasn’t been good enough. Wet Willie.Kyle Lauletta gets a “Wet Willie” simply for the bad judgment he showed in getting arrested last week, perhaps delaying his chance to play.Running backUmm ... gee Cheap Will Hernandez Jersey , Saquon Barkley, on a historic pace for a rookie, gets “Kudos.” Jonathan Stewart gets a “Kudos” and a “Wet Willie.” He gets “Kudos” for somehow bamboozling the Giants out of $3.45 million. He gets a “Wet Willie” for lasting six carries (and gaining 17 yards) before landing on IR.Tight endA receiving tight end who can’t catch? You know the grade for Evan Engram. Wet Willie.Offensive linePutrid. The only bright spot has, at times, been rookie Will Hernandez. Wet Willie. Wide receiverWhen it comes to Odell Beckham Jr., we’re keeping this to his work on the field. He has 61 catches, on pace for 122, which would shatter Steve Smith’s franchise record of 107. He is on pace for 1,570 receiving yards, which would break his own franchise record. Kudos.Sterling Shepard is on pace for his first 1,000-yard season and could set career highs in yardage, receptions and yards per catch. Kudos.Defensive lineDamon Harrison is gone, but it’s hard to complain about the work that B.J., Dalvin Tomlinson and Kerry Wynn have done. “Kudos” to that trio.EdgeOlivier Vernon has played only three games but is tied for the team lead with 10 pressures. Kudos.Lorenzo Carter is showing potential, but I’m not sure exactly how to grade him. Kwillie.Free-agent acquisitions Kareem Martin and Connor Barwin have given the Giants very little. Wet Willies.Inside linebackerSome good, some bad for both B.J. Goodson and Alec Ogletree. Kwillies.Ray-Ray Armstrong is gone and Tae Davis has yet to really play enough to get a grade.CornerbackB.W. Webb has been a good find for the Giants. Kudos.Janoris Jenkins? He is the league’s 121st ranked corner, per Pro Football Focus, playing far below the level of his $62 million contract. Wet Willie.SafetyLandon Collins hasn’t made any real game-changing plays, but otherwise has been his typical self. Kudos.Curtis Riley? The Giants need to go back to the drawing board at free safety. Wet Willie.Special teamsPlacekicker Aldrick Rosas has been excellent, 17-of-18 in field goals (94.9 percent) with his only miss coming from beyond 50 yarrs. Punter Riley Dixon has been solid. “Kudos” to both.A “Wet Willie” to every return man the Giants have used this season not named Quadree Henderson or Jawill Davis.

Giants at Texans Authentic Ray-Ray Armstrong Jersey , , news-filled day for the New York Giants. And we are just getting to kickoff of today’s game at NRG Stadium in Houston against the Houston Texans.Ereck Flowers is no longer a starter and that could mean a great many things for the Giants. Struggling punt returner Kaelin Clay is inactive. That opens the door for the possibility that Odell Beckham Jr. could be used in that capacity full time on Sunday. The Giants and Texans are both 0-2 and the Giants appear ready to pull out all the stops to avoid an 0-3 start , which is a likely death sentence for an NFL team’s playoff aspirations. The Giants are 6-point underdogs. Your Big Blue View contributors don’t appear to have confidence in the team today, with none picking them to win. Giants fans aren’t showing any confidence, either, with only 16 percent of fans registering confidence in our Week 3 FanPulse poll.Check our Game Day StoryStream for all of your pre-game, in-game and post-game coverage. See our Giants-Texans Hub Page for our full week of coverage.Use this as your live thread for the first half. The New York Giants trail the Washington Redskins 7-3 at the half. Once again the Giants won the coin toss and elected to defer New York Giants T-Shirt , putting their defense on the field first. It was a predictably bad half of offense from the Giants, with the team once again failing to score once they got in the end zone. As they have all too often this season, the Giants passing game was largely limited to quick passes. The highlight of the first half for the Giants was a big 44-yard throw and catch from Eli Manning to Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham and Saquon Barkley accounted for the majority of the Giants’ offensive yards, with Beckham racking up 80 yards receiving and Barkly with 74 total yards (27 rushing, 47 receiving). The Giants’ defense played reasonably well after the trades of starting defensive tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Eli Apple. With Harrison in Detroit and Alec Ogletree injured New York Giants Hats , rookie DT B.J. Hill and third year linebacker B.J. Goodson saw extended snaps, and the two played well in their opportunities. Rookie linebacker Lorenzo Carter also saw more snaps opposite Olivier Vernon and created some pressure rushing off the edge. The Giants will get the ball to start the second half.

been removed from the San Francisco 49ers , but Niners Nation is still a big Frank Gore house. We were high on him when he went to the Indianapolis Colts, and we’re still going to be checking on him in 2018 with his new team, the Miami Dolphins. Gore is no longer the bell cow he was, as he’s splitting carries with Kenyan Drake, but he was still productive with his nine carries, getting 61 yards. This now puts him at 14,087 yards. Gore needs 15 more yards to pass Curtis Martin for No. 4 all-time on the rushing leaderboard. That shouldn’t be difficult and can be accomplished in Week 2 when the Dolphins face the New York Jets. Given Martin’s history with the Jets, it would be fitting to happen against them.Once he gets the No. 4 spot locked up next week, Gore has Barry Sanders (15,269) , Walter Payton (16,726), and Emmitt Smith (18,355) in front of him. Smith and Payton might both be out of the question given where Gore’s career is at in relation to his age, but Barry Sanders may be a distant (very large distance) possibility depending on how good Gore can finish out his career. It’s a longshot, but Gore is almost immortal — he just doesn’t call it quits. Look, I understand that a lot of what’s been happening with the San Francisco 49ers has been young players making dumb moves that wind up piling up into huge issues. I get that. I also get that many of the players, especially on defense, are defending Robert Saleh saying they called a good game and taking the blame for the issues themselves. First of all—that’s great. These guys that have accountability and aren’t pointing the finger when things get bad are the right guys to have in the locker room. I’ll go more into it today, but short answer is—that locker room could be on meltdown and instead it’s sticking together. John Lynch got that part right. But second and more important: Just why aren’t the players executing? If good gameplans are called , and players (multiple)are out of position then why is that happening? Is that still a player issue or a coaching issue? Is Robert Saleh’s defense too complicated for its own good? Are they not coaching players up?I’m not pointing a finger at anyone. Maybe Saleh is calling great games and the players are not communicating/executing. If that’s the case, then my question is why aren’t they? Is it youth or some other reason. Just something to think about. Onto your links. The San Francisco 49ers close out the week on Monday Night Football San Francisco 49ers Hoodie , facing the New York Giants as Nick Mullens makes his second career start. The week gets going later tonight with the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Carolina Panthers in a pretty huge inter-conference Thursday Night Football contest. If you’re still alive in your Survivor pool, the 49ers are an interesting but scary option in Week 10. They host the Giants in a matchup of two teams competing for high draft positioning. Nick Mullens looked fantastic in his debut last week, but will he build on it or regress this week? It’s hard to see him matching that effort, but given how the bad the Giants are, a regression does not remove their chances at a victory. This might just be the best time to use the Kansas City Chiefs. They host Arizona as 16.5 point favorites. A letdown could always happen in advance of their Week 11 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, but this seems like a game the Chiefs roll in.Tonight, Week 10 opens with the Steelers hosting the Panthers in an intriguing inter-conference matchup. The Steelers hold a half game lead on the Bengals in the AFC North, while the Panthers are a game back of the Saints in the NFC South. This is a huge game for both teams. The Steelers are a four-point favorite, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. Carolina is playing really well right now, with three straight wins under their belt. I think they’re in for a stumble this week, so I’m going to lay the points with Pittsburgh. Here are all my straight-up picks for Week 10. I was 10-3 last week Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , bringing my season record to 88-43-2. I’ll have the rest of my picks against the spread later this weekend.Panthers @ Steelers: SteelersLions @ Bears: BearsSaints @ Bengals: SaintsFalcons @ Browns: BrownsPatriots @ Titans: PatriotsJaguars @ Colts: JaguarsCardinals @ Chiefs: ChiefsBills @ Jets: JetsWashington @ Buccaneers: WashingtonChargers @ Raiders: ChargersDolphins @ Packers: PackersSeahawks @ Rams: RamsCowboys @ Eagles: EaglesGiants @ 49ers: 49ers Mason Crosby smiled as he left the field. It was quite the week for the Green Bay Packers' veteran kicker.Crosby hit four field goals, including the winner from 27 yards as time expired to lift the Packers past the San Francisco 49ers 33-30 on Monday night."This week was a grind, it was one of the tougher weeks of my career," Crosby said.It began with rare questions about Crosby's reliability following four missed field goals and an extra-point try in a 31-23 loss in Detroit last week.It ended with a perfect night against the 49ers. He also hit from 29, 39 and 51 yards, and made all three extra-point attempts."It's very appropriate, what he went through last week, (for) the team to stick with him," Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. "And then he responded."The drive that led to Crosby's winner was extended after cornerback Richard Sherman was flagged for illegal contact on third-and-15 that wiped out a sack with 43 seconds left.Rodgers rushed up the middle for a 21-yard gain on the next play. The two-time NFL MVP completed two more passes for 19 yards to set up Crosby's winner for Green Bay (3-2-1)."It doesn't matter if you agree with the call. It's not like, 'Oh, I didn't agree with the call , they're going to pick it up.' They called it. I've got to find a way to do better," Sherman said.Other takeaways and key moments from the game:CLUTCH RODGERSRodgers threw for 425 yards and two scores, both to Davante Adams. The second came with 1:55 left from 16 yards to tie it at 30.The Packers didn't waste a second chance to get into field-goal range after the penalty on Sherman. After a spike to stop the clock with 19 seconds left following his 21-yard scramble to the Packers 45, Rodgers hit three straight passes to move Green Bay to the San Francisco 9. The receivers got out of bounds after each of play to buy more time."Just the time, and just really the menu (of plays) and the operation, that was a clinic," coach Mike McCarthy said.LATE PICKC.J. Beathard passed for 245 yards and two long touchdowns to speedy receiver Marquise Goodwin for the 49ers (1-5).For a while it looked like they might hold on for their first victory since quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the year in Week 3 with a torn ACL.Turnovers hurt them again — three more on Monday night, but none bigger than cornerback Kevin King's interception of a deep pass down the middle at the Packers 10."Very disappointed. We had a chance to win that game," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "It hurts."A second-year cornerback, King was locked in 1-on-1 coverage with Goodwin, who had burned the secondary all night. This time San Francisco 49ers T-Shirt , King kept up and pulled in a ball that looked slightly underthrown by Beathard.King picked a nice time for his first career interception."I've just got to stay the course, keep doing your job, keep it going, and those types of plays are going to come," King said.GOOD GOODWINThe Packers had 17-7 lead when Rodgers connected with Adams for a 9-yard touchdown with 1:58 left in the first quarter. Then San Francisco just brushed past Green Bay.Beathard connected with Goodwin for the 67-yard score down the middle of the field on the ensuing series.Goodwin had a 30-yard score with 6:05 left in the second. Goodwin, who finished with four catches for 126 yards, celebrated by mimicking a long jump in the end zone.Beathard was 16 of 23.NO TAKEAWAYSAnother game without a takeaway for the Niners dropped them to an NFL-worst minus-11 in turnover differential. The defense had generated a league-low three takeaways coming into the night, the fewest for the franchise after five games since 1977.RECEIVERS RUN AWAYThe Packers got the 49ers to bite on play-action early that resulted in open passes to Jimmy Graham and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.Rodgers found Valdes-Scantling for a 60-yard completion on the Packers' first play from scrimmage, setting up Ty Montgomery's 2-yard touchdown run with 9:20 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7.Graham and Valdes-Scantling each finished with more than 100 yards receiving. Adams had 10 catches on 16 targets with a game-high 132 yards and two scores. It was a promising night for a passing game with receivers Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison both sidelined again with hamstring injuries.

Penalties Quarterback Nick Mullens Jersey , The only storyline that really matters from the San Francisco 49ers Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs is Jimmy Garoppolo likely tearing his ACL in the fourth quarter. That’s the first, second, and third story of the day, regardless of anything else. But there are still other issues that came out of the shootout loss. The team had their chances to get back into this game, but self-inflicted wounds were a big issue as well. It started with a George Kittle drop on the first offensive play of the game, and then continued throughout the game with the 49ers committing 14 penalties for 147 yards, the defense blowing 3rd and long situations, and missed tackles remaining a consistent issue. Not all the penalties seemed legit. There was a very questionable defensive holding call against cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. The most egregious bad called was this ticky-tack offensive pass interference call against Kyle Juszczyk that negated what would have been a huge touchdown pass from C.J. Beathard to George Kittle. Those penalties aside, it was at times an overly undisciplined performance by the 49ers. Most notably were offsides penalties that gave the Chiefs offense new life. These were just a small taste of the problems the 49ers had on several third downs. Along with the penalties, shoddy tackling and poor game-planning resulted in easy gains for the Chiefs. On the first drive of the game, Kansas City had a 3rd and 15 at the 49ers 33-yard line. The 49ers brought serious pressure on the next play, but Andy Reid dialed up a screen pass to Spencer Ware that picked up 14 yards. It did not convert the 1st down, but Patrick Mahomes kept it on the next play to pick up the fourth down conversion. Two plays later Rookie Nick Mullens Jersey , the Chiefs scored their first touchdown. On Kansas City’s second drive of the game, the 49ers had the Chiefs in a 3rd and 16 situation at San Francisco 32. Mahomes threw it out of the end zone, and K’Waun Williams was called for pass interference. The Chiefs were set up with a 1st and goal at the 1 yard line, which Kareem Hunt promptly punched in to give his squad a 14-0 lead. The Chiefs offense is so dynamic, it forces teams into bad positions and can lead to bad penalties and bad execution. After the 3rd and 15 screen pass, the 49ers defense went into more prevent on subsequent 3rd and long plays, They were burned, and learned from it — unfortunately a little too late. But the pass interference penalty was just one example of an issue that cost the 49ers all day long. The team’s tackling remains woefully inconsistent, and more often bad than good on anything outside the hashmarks. Considering how well the Chiefs are playing right now, you can’t afford to give them any free plays. The 49ers did not need to play perfect in Week 3, but when you put up 14 penalties against this kind of opponent and fail to tackle with consistency, you can’t expect to win. It says something that the 49ers were able to climb back into these thing before one of the bad penalties cost them their final shot at the comeback. The 49ers have a big problem to address at the quarterback position, but beyond that Nick Mullens Jersey , they have to clean a lot up, particularly on defense. I don’t really know what they can do at this point about bad tackling, but something needs to be sorted out. But that, coupled with better execution, and some better play-calling decisions need to happen if this defense is going to step up in Jimmy Garoppolo’s absence.49ers have decision to make with suspended WR Victor Bolden in Week 5 Fooch’s update: The 49ers have a week to decide, so can wait until after the Cardinals game if they want. The San Francisco 49ers have an assortment of injury issues, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said they might have to look at bringing in some healthy bodies at various positions. While they figure out who to bring in for Tuesday workouts, the 49ers have a decision to make with regard to wide receiver Victor Bolden. Over the summer, the NFL suspended Bolden for four games due to a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. He was allowed to take part in training camp and the preseason, but the 49ers then placed him on the Reserve/Suspended list as they cut down to 53 players.Bolden’s suspension is over, and the team has until Wednesday to figure out what to do. He currently does not count against the 53-man roster, and the 49ers get a two-day exemption to figure out if they want to release a player to make room for Bolden, or release Bolden to free agency.A year ago Quarterback Nick Mullens Jersey , Bolden spent the first 13 games of the season on the 53-man roster, and the final three games on injured reserve. In his 13 games on the roster, Bolden was active for nine games and inactive for four games. He was primarily a special teams player, appearing in 122 special teams snaps and 27 offensive snaps. He was the team’s starting kick returner, with 19 returns for 396 yards (20.8 yards per return). The 49ers held onto him through the suspension, and while there was nothing lost in keeping him around, it does suggest they might have a spot for him on the roster. At the time of the suspension announcement, Bolden said he unknowingly used a supplement on the NFL’s banned substance list. He acknowledged needing to take full responsibility for not verifying the ingredients of the supplement, and the 49ers seemed to accept that it was an unintentional mistake.D.J. Reed is currently the team’s starting kick returner, averaging 30.3 yards per return on nine kickoffs. The rules have changed in terms of the kick coverage players being delayed getting down the field, but Reed is fourth in return average, so he’s finding success in the role. There are currently six wide receivers on the depth chart: Pierre Gar莽on, Marquise Goodwin Nick Mullens Jersey , Trent Taylor, Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne, and Richie James. Through four games, James has been active once, playing seven offensive snaps and no special teams snaps. If the 49ers want Bolden back on the roster, my guess is they would release James in hopes he gets through waivers and they can sign him to the practice squad. James was an explosive option in the preseason, but has not been able to earn a spot on the game-day roster aside from the one game active when Marquise Goodwin was hurt. The 49ers have two days to make a decision, and I suspect any roster move does not formally happen until Wednesday.
