WASHINGTON (AP) Nicklas Backstrom did so well on faceoffs with an injured hand he even surprised himself.”It’s the playoffs Edmonton Oilers Hats Womens ,” Backstrom said after the Washington Capitals‘ 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night that evened the Eastern Conference final at two games apiece. ”You’ve just got to grind. It felt good on the first couple faceoffs, so I just kept taking them.”Returning from a four-game absence with a right hand injury, Backstrom won six of nine faceoffs and looked more like himself as the night wore on. With Game 5 looming Saturday night at Tampa Bay, Backstrom’s improvement is one of the keys to Washington bouncing back from consecutive home losses.”I should get back to normal,” Backstrom said after playing 18:51 night in his return. ”I feel really good. I don’t know (how normal) exactly. If I didn’t feel good, I wouldn’t play. The doctors wouldn’t let me play, either.”Team doctors cleared Backstrom to play around lunchtime, and by pregame warmups he was drawing an ovation from fans thrilled to see him back in the lineup. The crowd roared when Backstrom won the faceoff on his first shift Custom Edmonton Oilers Jerseys , and he got back into a rhythm centering the third line.”It was so fun to be back out there,” Backstrom said. ”It’s where everyone wants to be. You want to be on the ice. It’s just too bad we didn’t get the win.”A hard-luck loss included two penalties by fill-in No. 2 center Lars Eller, who has five in the past two games. Coach Barry Trotz didn’t mess with his top two lines, but Backstrom could easily be promoted to skate with Jakub Vrana and T.J. Oshie in Game 5.”We’re going to need him pushing forward, especially now that he has a game under him,” goaltender Braden Holtby said. ”He’ll take on more minutes and a bigger role. You could tell as the game went on he was getting more and more comfortable, so he’s going to be a much-needed asset for us in these next few games, for sure.”Backstrom appears ready to do that. The 30-year-old Swedish center hadn’t played since taking a slap shot from Pittsburgh’s Justin Schultz on May 5 , but if it were up to him, he would have been back much sooner.”Nick has been champing at the bit for a while now,” said Trotz, lauding Backstrom’s game. ”We’ve been holding him back a little bit, but he’s ready to go.”Even on a team featuring Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals have gone how Backstrom has gone for the better part of a decade. He’s the second-longest-tenured player on the team, and this was his first career game in the conference finals.”As a hockey player, you want to play Florida Panthers T-Shirts Womens ,” Backstrom said. ”It feels nice to be back.”— MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens are leaving teams behind — and trying not to get too far ahead of themselves.Brendan Gallagher scored with 11 seconds left to give the Montreal Canadiens their third straight victory, 3-2 over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.“I’m not proud of anything because it’s only six games,” coach Claude Julien said. “I’m glad with the way things are going but there’s no reason to get carried away with where we are right now. There’s still lots to accomplish. I could be proud of a lot of things, but I prefer being humble in these situations where things can change quickly.”Max Domi and Mike Reilly each scored their first goal of the season to help Montreal improve to 4-1-1. Carey Price made 23 saves for his second victory of the season after missing two games because of the flu.Gallagher tipped a loose puck past goalie Jake Allen after jumping on a bad giveaway by defenseman Colton Parayko in front of the net.“You obviously don’t expect it,” Gallagher said. “You have to be in the right spot. I thought Tuna (Tatar) did a good job to create the turnover and fortunately enough it ended up where I didn’t do that much. I just had to chip it in.”From the corner of the ice, Parayko whiffed on a pass and the puck went right to Tomas Tatar, who poked it to Gallagher at the side of the net.“It’s obviously a tough play. I feel bad for Colton,” Blues coach Mike Yeo said. “But we’re not playing well enough to win hockey games. And when you do that Florida Panthers Hoodies Womens , yeah, one play can be the difference. You don’t deserve to win if you only go out and play hard in the third period. We’re not playing 60 minutes.”Vince Dunn and Brayden Schenn scored for St. Louis, and Allen made 20 saves. The Blues dropped to 1-3-2.Just 39 seconds into the game, Domi put the home team in front with his first goal in a Canadiens uniform. On a 2-on-1 with Jonathan Drouin, Domi carried the puck from his own blue line before beating Allen with a backhand between the pads.Dunn tied it at 3:21 of the second period when his shot from the point beat Price through traffic.Reilly showed fancy stick work at the blue line to evade Brayden Schenn’s poke check before firing a wrist shot glove side past Allen on the power play at 7:42 of the second to give Montreal the 2-1 lead. The Canadiens gave St. Louis three power plays in the third period and the visitors capitalized on the last one. With Matthew Peca in the box for holding, Schenn beat Price with 3:29 left in the game.NOTES: The victory was Montreal’s first against the Blues since Oct. 20, 2015. The Canadiens were 0-3-2 in their last five versus St. Louis. … Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw is out with flu. … Blues center Tyler Bozak played his 600th NHL game.UP NEXTBlues: At Toronto on Saturday night.Canadiens: At Ottawa on Saturday night.

Now the Islanders will look to see if they can carry that over to non-Metropolitan Division foes. The Islanders will look to extend the Eastern Conference’s longest winning streak on Monday night, when they host the Montreal Canadiens at Barclays Center. Both teams were off Sunday after playing Saturday, when the Islanders won their fifth straight game by blanking the visiting New Jersey Devils, 3-0, and the host Canadiens fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1.Article continues below ...All five wins by the Islanders (8-4-1) have come within the division. New York, which is atop the Metropolitan Division, is 6-0-0 against the Metro , its best divisional start since it was 6-0-0 against the Patrick Division in 1982-83.While it’s unlikely the Islanders will remain perfect within the division, the plethora of so-called “four-point wins” has given them a little bit more margin for error going forward. New York, which was predicted by most to miss the playoffs following the free agent departure of star center John Tavares, has an 84.9 percent chance to reach the postseason, according to the playoff probability report issued Sunday by the website.“These are big points, especially early on,” said Islanders center Brock Nelson, who scored his team-high seventh goal Saturday night. “Lind of stack as many as you can right away. To go 6-0 right away off the hop obviously is great for us.”The Canadiens (7-4-2) are also off to a surprising start after missing the playoffs in two of the previous three seasons, though Montreal has slowed a bit by alternating losses with wins in each of its last seven games.Things aren’t likely to get any easier Monday for the Canadiens, who have scored one goal in each of their last two losses. Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss Edmonton Oilers T-Shirts Womens , who is likely to draw the start Monday, authored a shutout Saturday night, when he made 35 saves against the Devils, and has allowed just three goals on 79 shots in his last three appearances.“Every goalie that you face is in the NHL for a reason,” Canadiens left winger Max Domi told reporters Saturday after he scored the only goal against the Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy, who made 34 saves. “They’re going to do their job and try and stop the puck and we’ve got to do our job and kind of break that. We weren’t able to do that tonight.”Carey Price, who has made four straight starts, appears in line to start again Monday night in the opener of a back-to-back set in New York for the Canadiens. Montreal visits the Rangers on Tuesday night. Price took the loss Saturday after making 32 saves against the Lightning.Greiss is 3-3-0 in six career games against the Canadiens. Price is 11-5-4 in 20 appearances against the Islanders.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Wayne Simmonds and the Flyers are playing every game as if it’s the postseason. It paid off this weekend.Simmonds scored two goals to lift the Flyers past the Washington Capitals 6-3 on Sunday night Toronto Maple Leafs T-Shirts Womens , capping a four-point weekend and helping Philadelphia solidify its playoff position.”We desperately needed the two points and we played like we needed it,” Simmonds said.Oskar Lindblom, Shayne Gostisbehere, Ivan Provorov and Jakub Voracek also had goals for Philadelphia (37-25-11, 85 points), which stayed in third place in the Metropolitan Division and moved within four points of the first-place Capitals (41-24-7, 89 points). The Flyers began play tied with Columbus, which was idle Sunday, but have a tiebreaker over the Blue Jackets.Philadelphia scored all four of its goals in the third period of Saturday’s 4-2 comeback win at Carolina.”It was critical,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said of the weekend wins. ”These are basically all playoff games right now. Real gutsy effort.”Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 43rd goal of the season Toronto Maple Leafs Hoodies Womens , and Chandler Stephenson and John Carlson had goals for the Capitals, whose four-game winning streak was snapped.Washington rested Saturday and coach Barry Trotz expected his players to come out aggressively against the Flyers, who were playing their second game in less than 24 hours. He was disappointed that didn’t happen.”You know they’re going to be in desperate mode,” Trotz said. ”You know they’re going to give a good effort, but at the same time, we had all the advantage. We were in our beds last night watching the (Carolina) game.”We talked about taking control of the game early, make it real hard. I don’t think we did that. We didn’t make it hard enough on them. We just played. We were chasing the game the whole night.”The Flyers took the lead for good on Lindblom’s first career goal with 1:41 left in the second period. Voracek passed to the rookie in the slot, and Lindblom’s wrist shot went off goalie Philipp Grubauer’s blocker, off the pipe and then into the goal. The rookie went 12 straight games without a point before picking up an assist in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Carolina.Philadelphia extended its lead to 3-1 with 18.3 seconds left in the period when Provorov’s wrist shot from the side boards got through traffic, deflected off defenseman Christian Djoos‘ leg and past Grubauer.Simmonds’ deflection of Robert Hagg’s slap shot made it 4-1 1:37 into the third period. After Stephenson finished a 2-on-1 to pull the Capitals within 4-2 with 9:29 left Toronto Maple Leafs Hats Womens , Simmonds scored his second of the night on a wrist shot from the slot that zoomed past Grubauer’s glove into the top-right corner.Carlson’s backhander from a sharp angle with 3:53 left made it 5-3, and Voracek finished the scoring with an empty-netter with 37.1 seconds to play.Hakstol felt Saturday’s win helped relax the Flyers, who had lost seven of eight entering Saturday.”Took a little weight off,” he said. ”Tonight, the focus was good and clear.”Gostisbehere opened the scoring 2:15 into the second period on a one-timer after Claude Giroux’s clean win on the faceoff.Washington tied it at 1 with 4:52 left in the second on Ovechkin’s goal. Travis Boyd set up the goal with a pretty pass from the slot, spinning to backhand to Ovechkin, who tipped it over Mrazek.Mrazek, playing in his 11th game for Philadelphia after being acquired from Detroit, had a strong game until giving up Carlson’s tally. He stopped Nicklas Backstrom on a 2-on-1 in the first period and later made a good glove same on Dmitry Orlov’s slap shot to keep the Capitals scoreless in the first. Mrazek’s most important save may have been with 8:10 left after Washington pulled within two goals when he used his pad to deny Lars Eller from close range. He finished with 25 saves.Grubauer returned to the net for Washington after struggling Braden Holtby made 22 saves in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Islanders. Holtby, the 2016 Vezina Trophy winner Custom Toronto Maple Leafs Jerseys , had lost seven of eight and hadn’t played in four consecutive games entering Friday.Grubauer made 29 saves.NOTES: Washington C Evgeny Kuznetsov (upper body) didn’t play after being slashed in the left wrist/arm area in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Islanders. DALLAS (AP) Liam Kirk was on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, about 4,600 miles away from Dallas, on Saturday when he became the first player born and trained in England to be selected in the NHL draft.Early in the seventh and final round of the draft, the Arizona Coyotes took the 18-year-old Kirk with the 189th overall pick .”To finally see my name on the board was just incredible,” Kirk said by phone from England. ”And to get a call from the GM was even better, just to know that’s the place I’m going. And that’s what I’m aiming to be, and to play my NHL career.”The 6-foot, 161-pound Kirk played this season for Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League, the highest level of competition in the United Kingdom , and for a team where the average age is 28. He had nine goals and seven assists in 52 games for the Steelers in his second season with the team.Even though cricket and soccer are much more popular sports in England, Kirk already was dreaming about playing for Sheffield when he was only about 6 years old and going to Steelers games with his parents and older brother. He started to learn about the NHL within a couple of years.Tim Bernhardt, Arizona’s director of amateur scouting, said NHL Central Scouting identified Kirk. The Coyotes then sent one of their scouts in Europe to see him, and more followed.”He’s a thin kid, needs a lot of physical development, but they said he’s got a good idea of the game, and his natural skills were very good,” Bernhardt said.Born in Rotherham, Kirk this year became the first player born and trained in England to attend the NHL’s pre-draft scouting combine in Buffalo. Now he is the first to be drafted Vancouver Canucks T-Shirts Womens , and he wants to be the first to play in the NHL.”I just want to prove myself, and prove I can play,” said Kirk, who will soon move to North America to start playing here. The Coyotes were among the teams that met with Kirk at the combine, and he knew there was a chance that they would take him. But he didn’t know for sure while watching the draft with his family. His name finally got called Saturday night in England, six hours ahead of Dallas time, where it was early afternoon when he got picked.”He wants to be here. He’s coming over here to play now,” Bernhardt said. ”He’s played in the men’s league. It’s hard for him to find a spot to play because he’s too good for the juniors. … You’re not going to find that kind of skill in the seventh round, so let’s go for it and see where we can get it to.”—

Saints offense vs. Redskins defense The New Orleans Saints return home this week after two straight games on the road to host the Washington Redskins on Monday night football. It will be the Saints (3-1) first appearance on prime time this season. Opposing them will be the 2-1 Washington Redskins , coming off a bye week. Washington has surprised some with their defensive performance early this season, giving up less than 15 points and under 280 yards per game but they will be challenged by one of the NFL's most productive passing games in New Orleans. The Saints will also get Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram back on the field after a four game league suspension. Let's have a look at some of the key matchups to focus on when the Saints have the ball in this game. SAINTS RUN OFFENSE vs. REDSKINS RUN DEFENSE Chuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsNew Orleans welcomes back one of it's best players in Ingram, one of the league's better all-around backs and the franchise's second all-time leading rusher. Without him, the Saints have averaged almost 105 yards rushing per game as a team, down from the league's 5th ranked rushing attack that averaged nearly 130 yards per game a year ago. After totaling just 105 yards on the ground in their first two games, New Orleans has rushed for 143 and 170 yards in wins over the Falcons and Giants in each of the last two weeks. Alvin Kamara leads the team in rushing with 275 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and running for five scores. The team's rushing totals have been bolstered by a couple long runs by Taysom Hill, who is second in rushing with 67 yards, and an end around to wideout Ted Ginn Jr. The Saints offensive lines, one of the better in the league, has struggled a bit to open interior rushing lanes for their backs, but benefited from Andrus Peat's return to the lineup from injury last week. Tackles Ryan Ramczyk and Terron Armstead have been outstanding run blockers outside, grading as one of the league's top duos. Washington comes to town allowing only 90 yards per game on the ground, although they do give up 4.5 yards per carry. Rookie defensive tackles Da'Ron Payne (1st round) and Tim Settle (5th round) have been immovable inside, often able to push the offensive line backwards, and have been a big reason why the Skins have been able to improve from their 32nd ranking against the run last year. Inside linebackers Mason Foster and Zach Brown are excellent tacklers and superb run defenders, able to chase down plays in the backfield and sideline to sideline. Washington's outside defenders have good size, and hold the edge well, and safety Montae Nicholson provides solid run support. Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images~ Matchup to Watch: Ingram/Kamara vs. Payne/Foster/Brown ~New Orleans attacked the outer edges of Atlanta's and New York's defenses over the last two weeks in the running game, and the result was big plays from both Kamara and Hill by getting them in space. With the slashing Ingram back, the Saints will be even more effective inside. Last year during a week 11 win against the Redskins, Ingram and Kamara combined for 176 rushing yards, 274 all-purpose yards, and two scores. Peat, center Max Unger, and guard Larry Warford must win their battles against Payne and the big Redskin defensive line to open up running lanes for their talented 1-2 punch. The inside-outside abilities of Kamara and Ingram should spread the Redskins linebackers out to give room for the backs to make plays once at the second level. SAINTS PASS OFFENSE vs. REDSKINS PASS DEFENSE Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY SportsIngram's return will also greatly help the passing game. Not only is he a valuable weapon on screen passes and as a check down option, he was third on the team with 58 receptions in 2017 Ken Crawley Jersey , but he is excellent at picking up blitzers as well. The threat of a more consistent running game should also open up opportunities for potential big plays off play action passes as well, hopefully increasing the effectiveness of Ted Ginn (12 catches, 135 yards, 2 touchdowns) or rookie Tre'quan Smith (1 catch, 18 yards) down the field. New Orleans continues to have one of the best passing attacks in the league, and quarterback Drew Brees continues to play at an elite level. Brees has averaged 326 yards per game so far this season, completing over 75% of his attempts while throwing 8 touchdowns without an interception. He benefits from having two of the most feared receivers in the league, in the explosive Kamara and 3rd year wideout Michael Thomas. A match up nightmare due to his crisp routes and physicality, Thomas leads the NFL with 42 receptions and 445 yards. Kamara has added 35 catches for 336 yards and a score, and has been a threat to opposing defenses from all over the offensive formation, something that will only increase with Ingram's return. There continues to be a big dropoff in production behind Thomas and Kamara. Ginn's 22 targets are the third most on the team, well behind the 47 and 44 times that Kamara and Thomas have been targeted, respectively. Veteran tight end Ben Watson has 13 receptions for 157 yards, each third best on the team, and his quarterback trusts him in key situations. Wide receiver Cameron Meredith and Smith have been more involved in the game plan in recent weeks, but must do a better job of converting their chances. The New Orleans offensive front has allowed only six sacks, enabling Brees the time to survey the field to tear a defense apart. Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty ImagesOnly Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers (265 yards) has thrown broken the 200-yd. barrier against the Redskins, who have allowed only 187 yards per game through the air after ranking 9th against the pass last season. Washington attacks opposing quarterbacks in waves with a big and powerful front seven. Last year's first round pick, Jonathan Allen (2 sacks), looks like a potential star after missing much of his rookie season. Matthew Ioannidis leads the Redskins in sacks with 3, and Washington has brought down opposing passers seven times. Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith have yet to bring down the quarterback in 2018, but were the team's leaders in that area last season, and can bring heavy pressure from the outside. Ryan Anderson and Pernell McPhee adds solid edge depth, and are versatile pass rushers. Washington's best defensive back, cornerback Josh Norman, looks questionable for this game with a hamstring injury, which may leave Quinton Dunbar and Fabian Moreau the tall task of containing Thomas and the Saints receiving threats. Free safety D.J. Swearinger (2 interceptions) has great range Cheap Josh LeRibeus Jersey , and is one of the more underrated defensive backs in the game. He can make an offense pay for testing the Redskins down the field. Photo by Matt Hazlett/Getty Images~ Key Matchup: Armstead/Ramczyk vs. Redskins pass rush ~Brees threw for 375 yards and two scores in a thrilling comeback over Washington last season, but was under a good bit of pressure from the edge most of the game. The New Orleans receiving corps looks to have a big advantage over Washington's secondary, particularly if Norman is unable to play. The Redskins have often been able to pressure Brees from the edge in six meetings against him. Allen, Ioannidis, Kerrigan, and Smith all have both the strength and athleticism to give opposing lines fits. The entire Saints line must win their one on one match ups, the the fine tackle combination of Ramczyk and Armstead will face one of their bigger challenges of the schedule. WHAT TO LOOK FOR Chuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsThe improved Washington defense is extremely physical, particularly in their front seven. The Saints will likely look to establish balance with their running game early with both Ingram and Kamara, but don't be surprised to see them take a few play action shots down the field at the start of the game. Both Thomas and Kamara should have good games again receiving, but New Orleans had good success in the middle of the field against the Redskins secondary last season. That could lead to some big receptions from Watson, Meredith, or even Josh Hill. Brees needs only 201 yards to pass Peyton Manning as the NFL's all-time passing yardage leader. Given the match ups against Washington's secondary, the future Hall of Famer should likely break the 300-yd. barrier, but protection up front from his offensive line will be key for him to get the ball to his outstanding playmakers.New Orleans Saints Regular Season Preview Recap: Week 6 Bye The New Orleans Saints have an early Bye in the 2018 regular season, with a Bye sandwiched between a Monday Night primetime showdown against the Washington Redskins at home and a Sunday afternoon game on the road against the Baltimore Ravens.Including the Ravens - a team Drew Brees has never beat in his career - the Saints have an absolutely brutal stretch after the Bye week. First the Ravens in Baltimore, then on the road to Minnesota for the third time in two seasons against the Minnesota Vikings. The next week, the Saints are back home, but have the privilege of facing the reigning NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams. Two weeks after that the Saints face the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, only to turn around four days later and host the division rival Atlanta Falcons.Needless to say, the first five games of the season will be absolutely crucial if the Saints want to have any chance of making the playoffs in 2018. According to our series of polls for each opponent preview piece, the Who Dat Nation believes the Saints will be 4-1 heading into the Bye, with the sole loss coming in Week 3 on the road against the aforementioned Falcons. The biggest blowout is projected to be the home opener against the Jameis Winston-less Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with a win against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 coming in a close second. Saints fans were pretty confident in the Saints chances against the New York Giants in Week 4, an the narrowest margin is the Monday Night Football contest against the Washington Redskins. So, what do you think? Is 4-1 a reasonable expectation for the Saints heading into their Week 6 Bye? Do you think their record will be better? Worse? Vote in the poll. Explain in the comments. In For Tryouts The New Orleans Saints are hosting running backs Jamaal Charles and Terrance West for visits this Wednesday Youth Customized New Orleans Saints Jerseys , according to multiple sources. The Saints, who will be without starter Mark Ingram for the season's first four games due to a league suspension, are likely looking for potential veteran insurance behind last year's offensive rookie of the year Alvin Kamara. Photo by Brian Bahr/Getty ImagesThe 31-yr. old Charles has been in the league ten years, originally a 3rd round draft choice by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Texas. He 7,556 yards rushing in his career, five seasons of over 1,000 yards rushing, 4 Pro Bowl selections, and two years of All-Pro recognition in his nine seasons with the Chiefs, which included three seasons of over 1,200 yards on the ground. At his best , Charles was a speedy breakaway threat capable of taking the ball to the end zone from anywhere on the field. He has averaged 5.4 yards per carry and has 44 career rushing touchdowns, including a league high 12 rushing scores in 2012. He is also a capable receiver out of the backfield, catching 308 career passes for 2,586 yards and 20 receiving scores. Photo by Jason Hanna/Getty ImagesCharles was a focal point of the Kansas City offense from 2009-'14, although he did miss all but 2 games of the 2011 season with injury. During those five healthy years, Charles averaged nearly 1,300 yards on the ground, 46 receptions and almost 400 yards per season as a receiver, and 55 total offensive touchdowns. Multiple major knee injuries led to Charles missing nearly all of the 2011, 2015, and 2016 seasons New Orleans Saints T-Shirt , robbing himof some of his breathtaking explosiveness, and leading to his release from Kansas City following the '16 season. He was picked up by the Denver Broncos, where he played 14 games last year, but rushed for just 296 yards with one touchdown and added only 129 more receiving. Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesWest is a 27-yr. old veteran who came into the league as a 3rd round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. After some success as a rookie (673 yards rushing, 4 touchdowns), he played his way from the Tennessee Titans practice squad and onto the Baltimore Ravens roster in 2015, where he stayed until the conclusion of last year. West led the Ravens in rushing in 2016, with 774 yards and 5 touchdowns, while adding 45 receptions and another score. West struggled with a calf injury, among other ailments, that limited his effectiveness last season New Orleans Saints Hats , allowing him action in just five games. Photo by Adam Bettcher/Getty ImagesMake no mistake, the success of the Saints backfield certainly rests on the talents of Kamara, and Ingram upon his return. Ingram's suspension does leave the team with little proven depth at running back, however. Jonathan Williams and Trey Edmunds will both be entering their second active professional seasons, but have a combined 20 NFL carries between them. Boston Scott, an exciting 6th round pick this spring from Louisiana Tech, has yet to see NFL action. The Saints interest in Charles, West, or Tim Hightower, who was at New Orleans mini-camp on Tuesday, would primarily be as trusted depth behind Kamara until Ingram's return.Drew Brees becomes NFL’s all-time completion leader New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was only 13 completions shy of tying an NFL record entering Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. Now New Orleans Saints Womens Hoodie , he’s the league’s all-time completion leader, surpassing Brett Favre after completion 14.Favre previously held the record with 6,300, and it has been intact since he hung it up after the 2010 NFL season. Brees had previously passed up Peyton Manning (6,125) to become second on the all-time list in December 2017 against the Carolina Panthers.Brees started strong in Week 3, going 4-for-4 on the first offensive drive that resulted in an early touchdown drive for the Saints on the opening possession. The Falcons were able to counter late in the first quarter to tie the game.Fast forward to early in the second quarter, and Brees connected with Michael Thomas to tie the record at the 10:19 mark. He set the record by going to Thomas again.

The final score of the game was 36-7.The Saints’ first team offense struggled early in the game to get things going, but the backups led a dominate performance in LA. If nothing, this shows how the depth has vastly improved over the years.1stQuarterThe Saints opened the first half with a touchback by Brandon Tate. Austin Carr, the second year UDFA out of Northwestern, ran the series with the starters. Unfortunately, three plays in Drew Brees threw a deep ball intended for Ted Ginn, Jr that was intercepted by Derwin James. The throw was an unusual, poor decision by Brees.Austin Ekeler was the big mover in the second series of the game. Ekeler ran for 42 yards on 3 carries that moved the Chargers into the redzone eventually. He also caught 3 passes for 13 yards. The Chargers offensive line made decently large sized holes for Ekeler to make his way for the large gains. The Saints D ultimately rebounded to stop the Chargers on 4thdown at the goal line with great coverage on Chargers receiver Mike Williams by Ken Crawley. After the big stop, the Saints offense went three and out. They had a very hard time getting anything going. Mark Ingram II was shut down twice up the middle Youth Drew Brees Jersey , while Michael Thomas cause a screen for no gain. Thomas Morstead punted to Travis Benjamin, who had a rather large return of 19 yards to put the Chargers in excellent starting position at the Saints 42 yard line. The Chargers running backs put the Saints defense in a blender once again with a large gain by Derek Watt on a quick wheel route out the back field. Marcus Davenport made an extremely athletic tackle on Travis Benjamin who ran a reverse on the play. Detrez Newsome ran to the left side for a touchdown to finish the drive for six. Caleb Sturgis knocked the extra point through. The Saints finally seemed to get a drive going, only to have the drive fall short by an Alvin Kamara dropped pass. BUT WAIT, IT’S A FAKE. Backup QB Taysom Hill, ran the ball out of the punt formation for a first down. The Chargers never saw the move coming. Michael Thomas followed the play with a large catch on a cross route for 37 yards.2ndQuarterAlvin Kamara broke two tackles on his first solid run of the night for 8 yards, then caught a very quick pass out of the backfield only to be brought down by Derwin James just short of the goal line. Alvin Kamara then easily plowed into the end zone with a run up the middle for six. The Saints elected to go for two after the touchdown with a successful quick screen to Michael Thomas. Saints 8 – Chargers 7Former Ohio State QB Cardale Jones opened the next series with a pass to Mike Williams on the right side for a solid gain of 13. The Saints sacked Jones on third down with Onyemata. Hendrickson was set very wide on this play to produce a creative blitz by the Saints D. Flawless execution. That’s it for Brees as Savage come in the game halfway through the second quarter. Ingram starts the drive with a loss of yardage after being stuffed up the middle. Ingram made up for the loss with a gain of 8 yards on a quick pass to put the Saints in a third and manageable situation. Savage made a fantastic throw to Austin Carr over the middle for a huge gain of 31 yards. Second stringers such as Josh LeRibeus and Tommylee Lewis began rotating into the game. The Saints fell short once again just short of the goal line with an incomplete pass to Josh Hill on the 5 yard line. Lutz drills the 35 yard field goal.Saints 11 – Chargers 7 Two minute drill was in effect for the Chargers who began the drive from their 25 yard line after a touchback on the kickoff. Jones begain the drive with a deep drop for a screen but the Saints defensive line was able to overcome the blocking, get to Jones, and force a spike to kill the play. David Onyemata makes another huge play that was almost a sack but ended in a one yard gain for Jones. The Saints took over on their own 41 with 1:20 left on the clock. Savage makes another HUGE throw to Tommylee Lewis, who made an incredible over the shoulder catch for a huge first down deep into Chargers territory. The Saints are unable to reach the endzone and settle for a Lutz 25 yard field goal.Saints 14 – Chargers 7 HALFTIMEThird QuarterGeno Smith started the third quarter, with a toss over the middle to Andre Patton for a modest gain of 14 yards. AJ Klein and Demario Davis remained the only defensive starts left in the game. Saints Rookie Natrell Jamerson made and impressive stop in the secondary to end the drive. Tommylee Lewis entered the game for the Saints in the return game for a small gain.Jonathon Williams revered direction in the backfield hoping to make something out of nothing, but only lost yardage on the play. Tommylee Lewis made another incredible catch, jumping backwards in his route Womens Alex Anzalone Jersey , but was stopped short of the first down.On the next drive, Chris Banjo made a HUGE hit on Scott for the Chargers to force and incompletion and third down. The Saints stopped the Chargers with a stop by Vonn Bell, who swatted down the ball in the secondary near the sideline. The Chargers punted to Tommylee Lewis who was rocked by a defender who missed him earlier in the play for no gain on the punt. The Chargers held on the play, which gave the Saints an extra 10 yards.Taysom Hill finally entered the game half way through the third quarter. Hill hit a wide-open Boston Scott out of the backfield, who broke a tackle and ran for a large gain and first down. Hill hit rookie Tre’Quan Smith for a solid gain of 12 on a screen pass. Jermon Bushrod stalled the drive with a holding penalty after a modest run by Boston Scott. Lucky for the Saints, Chargers DB held Tommylee Lewis on an out route for a pass inference to put the Saints into the redzone. Hill scrambled to the left for a 13 yard TD run, barely sliding in at the left pylon. Hill followed up the touchdown with a quick scramble on the two point conversion to add two.Saints 22 – Chargers 7Geno opened the next drive with a pick six by Craig Robertson, but there was a pass interference penalty called on Saints backup DB Marcus Williams.4thQuarterSaints opened the 4thquarter with a sack on Geno Smith by George Johnson. Backup DB Marcus Williams make a big play with a pick six on Geno Smith. It was a great read by Williams, who jumped the route and sprinted to the endzone. Boston Scott took the QB option from Hill to complete the third two point conversion on the night for the Saints.Saints 30 – Chargers 7 The Saints D forced a three and out as Geno Smith led their offense back onto the field. The Chargers punted to Lewis who had a small gain.Hill hit Saints rookie Tre’Quan smith over the middle for a HUGE gain of 30 yards, but the play lost some yardage due to a holding penalty on Michael Floyd. Taysom Hill scrambled twice for 21 yards. Hill looked fast on the two runs, ensuring he could get first downs on each run. Hill hit Tre’Quan Smith for 4 yards on 4thdown to convert. Hill continued the drive with a great broken tackle to extend a screen play to Vereen for a big gain of 13 yards to get the Saints to the 5 yard line. Hill rocketed a touchdown into the hands of Tre’Quan Smith for six. Jonathon Williams stuffed on the two point conversion.Saints 36 – Chargers 7The Chargers completed a pass on 4thdown to keep the series alive and into the two minute warning. Devaroe Lawrence sacked Chargers backup QB Shimonek to start after the two minute warning. DALLAS – Things could not have gone much better for both the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars in their respective season openers on Thursday night.Winnipeg (1-0-0) defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-1 on the road Pittsburgh Penguins Hats Womens , breaking open a 1-1 game after 40 minutes with four goals in the final frame, a win where Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 41 of 42 shots. And Dallas (1-0-0) gave new coach Jim Montgomery a 3-0 shutout victory over the Arizona Coyotes in his NHL coaching debut. The Stars lit the lamp three times in 96 seconds in the second period with captain Jamie Benn and newcomer Trevor Carrick, acquired in a trade earlier this week, each chipping in two assists.Article continues below ...Of course, now it’s on to game two, an early Central Division battle at the American Airlines Center on Saturday, a contest both coaches and teams are looking forward to.“The first game of the season is a little bit like the first game after the Christmas break and the Olympic break and the All-Star breaks,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said after practice Friday. “You’re not really sure what’s going to happen. There were guys falling down on both sides of the ice. I thought it was an unusual game, but there were pieces of our game that were right.”The Jets’ offensive outburst featured great balance with Kyle Connor, Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler each contributing a goal and an assist each, and Mark Scheifele adding two assists.Like Maurice, Montgomery also saw parts of the Stars’ game from the opener that need addressing.“Our wings need to stop and start better Custom Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys , and our layers down low, we need to make sure they block out better,” Montgomery said. After a scoreless first period, Dallas responded with three goals in 1:36 in the middle frame and then held on for the 3-0 victory.“The game opens up at times, and I think that we took advantage of it,” Stars center Jason Spezza said Friday. “I think sometimes when you score one, the other team gets a little tight. It just kind of snowballs sometimes. Momentum is real. It happens in games.”Another commonality from both the Jets and Stars openers is that both clubs got stellar goaltending with Dallas’ Ben Bishop stopping all 30 shots he faced to earn his 25th career shutout. And Connor, one of four Jets with two points against the Blues, feels that Hellebuyck’s stellar play between the pipes was a big reason why the Winnipeg offense erupted for four goals in the game’s final 20 minutes.“Yeah, it was good. We had great goaltending as well and played really well. It kind of sparked us there in the third,” Connor said.Last season, Winnipeg had Dallas’ number , taking all four meetings and outscoring the Stars 18-8.However, Montgomery puts no stock in how those Stars fared against those Jets.“Well, it’s great to see where we are, where we can match up with a big, heavy team,” Montgomery said after practice Friday. The NHL’s return to Winnipeg has been an instant success in the seats, with regular sellouts since the Jets arrived in 2011 for a second landing in the smallest market in the league.Progress on the ice has been measurably slower, with just one appearance in the playoffs in the first six years in wintry Manitoba after a struggling franchise moved north from Atlanta, but the patience of general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has been rewarded and then some this season.Sporting the second-best record in the NHL, the Jets have carried the momentum of 11 wins in their last 12 games into their first-round series against Minnesota. They boast one of the game’s coveted prodigies in 19-year-old Patrik Laine and his 44 goals. They have a balanced roster that ranked second in the league in scoring and fifth in fewest goals against. They face the Wild on Wednesday night at home, where they’re an NHL-best 32-7-2 this season.”Enjoy it, right?” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. ”We work real hard to get to a place where there’s mounting pressure and mounting enthusiasm San Jose Sharks T-Shirts Womens , and then we want to keep working to get to more and more and more. So you have to be a part of it. You have to enjoy it for sure.”Their time to take a big step forward to join the league’s elite has arrived. They even, considering their seed, represent the best hope to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada for the first time since 1993.Toronto is the only other team that made the playoffs this year, and the Maple Leafs must start the first round on the road against the Boston Bruins.”You don’t know how many times you’re going to come across this opportunity,” goalie Connor Hellebuyck said, ”and especially now with the great team like we have here. I’m really excited to see what these guys bring.”With another series of ”Whiteout ” events planned for Bell MTS Place, with fans encouraged to wear white team gear to the arena and surrounding parties, the city has been buzzing all week even as winter again overstays its welcome.”I’m very excited. I can start feeling my body getting those butterflies,” Hellebuyck said. The knock against the Jets is the collective lack of postseason experience, with a four-game sweep by the Anaheim Ducks in 2015 serving as the only action in the playoffs for some of these players. Laine hadn’t even been drafted yet. That’s where the Wild have a clear advantage, with this their sixth straight appearance in the 16-team tournament.Though they were overshadowed in the Western Conference this season by the Jets, the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Nashville Predators and the expansion Vegas Golden Knights San Jose Sharks Hoodies Womens , the Wild posted the third-best record in franchise history. Center Eric Staal had 42 goals, his most in 12 years. Jason Zucker scored a career-high 33 goals. Their defensemen ranked second in the league with 200 points.”You really got to go through it to know what it’s about,” left wing Zach Parise said, adding: ”I know they’ve been short-lived the last couple years, but you hope with just being there that will help us.”Here are some other key angles to follow with the series:PALS IN PADSHellebuyck and Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk met last summer in British Columbia during training sessions and rounds of golf that forged a friendship, with Dubnyk encouraging Hellebuyck to keep his head up after the Jets signed Steve Mason to an $8.2 million contract.Sure enough, Mason stumbled early and Hellebuyck supplanted him as the primary netminder to tie for the NHL lead with 44 wins and finish eighth in goals-against average.”It’s been fun to watch but that’s enough now,” Dubnyk said. ”It’s been a great year for him, but I’ll stop cheering for him now.”SUTER OUT, SPURGEON INOne of the Wild’s greatest assets for this matchup will be absent, with a season-ending broken ankle for stalwart Ryan Suter, who tied a franchise defenseman record with 51 points in 78 games. The upside is that Jared Spurgeon San Jose Sharks Hats Womens , who missed the last 17 games with a torn hamstring, is on track to return. He practiced with one of the two power-play units on Tuesday, and coach Bruce Boudreau said he’d make a game-time decision about Spurgeon’s availability on Wednesday.WHEELS UPJets captain Blake Wheeler tied for the NHL lead with 68 assists this season and finished ninth with 91 points, fueling a potent first line with Kyle Connor and Mark Schiefele to take some of the scoring pressure off Laine.Wheeler played at Breck High School in the Twin Cities area and in college for Minnesota before turning pro. He has never missed more than three games in any regular season since his debut with Boston in 2008-09.CULLEN’S CUPSWild center Matt Cullen contributed a modest 11 goals and 11 assists from the fourth line, but the 41-year-old’s contribution transcends points. He’s played in 123 postseason games, winning three Stanley Cups including the past two with the Pittsburgh Penguins.”This is why we got him, his experience in positions like we’re in right now,” Boudreau said. ”So we’re hoping he’s going to be valuable.”—

Conor McGregor has been a two-division UFC champion for less than one week -- but as usual, fans are already focused on his next fight.Exactly whom McGregor will fight is unclear. He now holds belts at featherweight and lightweight. Following UFC 205 last weekend, McGregor (21-3) said he would take time off for the birth of his first child in early 2017. He also anticipates a meeting with UFCs new ownership. The leading candidates to welcome back McGregor include interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo, lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nate Diaz, plus welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. How tough are these individual matchups for the sports biggest star? Here are the projected betting lines for each, provided by Nick Kalikas of championship: Conor McGregor -205, Jose Aldo +165Kalikas: The weight cut would be brutal for McGregor at this point, now that he has bulked up for fights at 155 and 170 pounds. But if he can make the cut, it would be a rematch of a fight he finished in 13 seconds [at UFC 194 last December]. McGregors timing and counterpunching took Aldo out, ending his 10-year unbeaten streak. Aldo has all the tools, but dont underestimate the mind games McGregor played on him. McGregor closed as a +100 even money bet against Aldo in their first fight. Hell open significantly higher this time.Lightweight championship: McGregor -250, Nate Diaz +190Kalikas: McGregor was overzealous when they met in March [at UFC 196]. He head-hunted and gassed himself out. He fought with a far more measured approach in the rematch [at UFC 202 in August], working Diaz with low kicks, body shots and dropping him multiple times in the first two rounds. In both matchups, McGregor was obviously the better striker, as long as his conditioning held up. In order for Diaz to win, hed have to rely on weathering the storm again and McGregors cardio fading.. Cheap Adidas China Wholesale. Diazs big advantage is on the ground, but his attempts to get the fight there were unsuccessful in the rematch. Theres no question McGregor should be the favorite in a trilogy bout.Lightweight championship: McGregor -115, Khabib Nurmagomedov -115Kalikas: This fight would be McGregors ultimate test. Nurmagomedov is one of the best wrestlers in the UFC and would have a clear advantage on the ground. Unlike Diaz, Nurmagomedov has a very strong ability to put opponents on their back. McGregor would have to either limit his approach offensively, fearing the takedown, or go all out in an attempt to take Nurmagomedov out with strikes as quickly as possible before the takedowns come. McGregors use of range has helped his takedown defense and if he can stay upright, he should be in a great position. But if Nurmagomedov has success with his takedowns, it could be a long night for the Irishman. As a pick-em, the sports books should attract a large amount of two-way action due to both fighters having serious die-hard fan bases.Welterweight championship: McGregor +125, Tyron Woodley -155Kalikas: McGregors previous experience at welterweight was against a large lightweight in Diaz. This time, McGregor would be facing a true welterweight, someone who walks around about 20 to 30 pounds heavier than him. This fight would be similar to the Nurmagomedov matchup, considering Woodley is a very powerful wrestler who can take him down and do serious damage on the canvas. Unlike Nurmagomedov, Woodley also has insane power with his right hand, and McGregor has never been hit by someone who can pack a punch like Woodley. That being said, McGregor should hold a significant technical striking edge and would have a clear path to victory if the fight stayed standing. Crew battles have settled regional rivalries throughout Super Smash Bros. Melees history, and this weekend the northern California scene is looking to restore its good name. Michigan Smash major The Big House 6 on Oct. 7-9 will run its second annual regional crew battle tournament, featuring eight crews from the US as well as Canada and Europe.A crew battle is a competition between two teams of five players each where players take turns playing one vs. one matches. The winner of a match carries over his remaining stocks, or lives, to play the next person on the other crew. The process is repeated until a team runs out of players. The team with players remaining is deemed the winner. In recent years, NorCal has established itself as one of the strongest regions in the world, featuring players such as DaJuan Shroomed McDaniel and Zachary SFAT Cordoni along with a slew of players that routinely finish in the final brackets of majors. Despite their talent, they failed to live up to high expectations at last years crew exhibitions by losing in the first round to Canadas crew.Team NorCal started strong, gaining a three stock lead as Roustane Kage Benzeguir was the only player left for Canada. Kage needed to take a total of seven stocks, including four of Shroomeds stocks, to advance into the next round. The circumstances looked grim, but Kage stepped up to the challenge as he defeated Kyle dizzkidboogie Athaydes Ice Climbers and then proceeded to dismantle Shroomed in embarrassing fashion to steal the victory. Cheers roared as a fan proudly waved a Canadian flag in the crowd and NorCal drifted away with their heads down.A Year of RedemptionA year later, NorCal seeks redemption after that disappointing first-round exit. Fortunately, they come with a much stronger five-man lineup as Kevin PewPewU Toy and Michael Nintendude Brancato join the likes of dizzkidboogie, Shroomed, and SFAT. Although NorCal had a large pool of players to choose from, they included two Ice Climbers players to take advantage of the no stage bans rule, giving them a strong counter-pick on Final Destination. Not everyone agreees with their lineup decision, but, as SFAT explained, I feel that our core four players, PewPewU, Nintendude, Shroomed, and myself, are the strongest and Kyle has improved so much over the past year and has proven himself with his crew battle performances at Shine 2016. Adidas Originals Stan Smith Cheap. ore importantly, SFAT felt that PewPewU was the missing ingredient from last years crew. SFAT remarked, Unfortunately, PewPewU couldnt make it last year to The Big House 5, but hes our glue guy and makes sure that we are mentally positive. When I play with him in doubles, hes always the player that keeps our heads in the game. We didnt have the right mindset for last years crews and I felt that was a big reason why we lost. With a lineup that has four top-20 level players, team NorCal comes in very confident. Crews such as SoCal, Florida, and Europe also come in with stacked five-man lineups which would give any competition some pause for thought. SFAT gave his assessment: I believe that Europe looks a little weak and Im most scared of Florida, but we have the pieces to beat any team as long as we make the right decisions in our-counter picks. It will be a tall order for NorCal to defeat Florida, which has Evolution Championship Series 2016 champion Juan Hungrybox Debiedma, fellow Melee god Jason Mew2King Zimmerman and Justin Plup McGrath. SoCal is also fearsome, with god Joseph Mango Marquez along with an all-star lineup of top-20 players. Europe offers its finest in god Adam Armada Lindgren and potentially William Leffen Hjelte. Regardless, NorCals positive mindset is arguably the most important trait to have for crews as players need to adapt quickly while not succumbing to the pressure of the roaring crowds and cross-regional trash talk.Despite the competition, Shroomed believes that his region will come through. He quipped, We can win, one hundred percent, as long as SFAT and I do our parts against the other gods when we face them. We all have to pull our weight, but we can do it. Sky Sports coverage of the Scottish football season reaches a climax on Scottish Cup final day. Acheter Air Max Pas Cher . Its live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 2pm on Saturday. Presenter David Tanner looks forward to the final, and also the arrival of Brendan Rodgers at Celtic... The city of Glasgow never tires of talking football. On the evidence of my strolls along Sauchiehall and Buchanan Streets this week, the volume of the chatter has reached levels not heard for years. Celtic fans told me of their excitement about Brendan Rodgers coming to town. I could only agree! Others were sad that Neil Lennon wasnt being welcomed back; I agreed with them, too. Discussions tended to move onto thoughts about whether the new boss should worry about the return of the other half of the Old Firm to the Premiership. Meanwhile, the blue half of town is all over the Scottish Cup final. As is the green end of Edinburgh! It struck me that this week might prove to be a watershed for Scottish football and for the fans in the countrys biggest city. This is the time when football people appear to me to have started looking forward with anticipation and excitement, rather than looking back in anger. The events that have unfolded at Rangers since 2012 - and the fiscal arrangements which preceded them - have dominated and soured many discussions about Scottish football for way too long. Without the Old Firm going head-to-head to provide the entertainment, fans of the great rivals have been left to argue the toss about tax schemes and other legal complexities. And youd be amazed how many tax experts there are out there now! Everybody has their own truth on this subject. The discourse of discontent can hopefully be drowned out now. Mark Warburton and Alan Stubbs will go head-to-head at Hampden Park Celtic have shown huge appetite and ambition in their pursuit and capture of Rodgers (there were so many fantastic options available to the champions this time!) and there is clearly about to be substantial investment in human resources at Parkhead. The personal intervention of Dermot Desmond in the recruitment process excites me; it sends out a strong message that wasnt there when he took a back seat when the unfathomable appointment of Ronny Deila was made two years ago. Id argue that these great Glasgow clubs exist primarily to beat the other one! Trophies and European runs are an added bonus! As a Celtic supporter, Brendan will understand this but only to a degree... as he becomes immersed in Celtic and the Old Firm, hell soon discover more about the unique culture of bedlam! Hell find Glasgow to be more intense than Liverpool. I believe that prospect will excite him! Luke Shanley tells us Brendan Rodgers is the big-name manager Celtic wanted Before Brendan experiences the Old Firm clash next season - remember, all of the meetings in the Ladbrokes Premiership will be live on Sky Sports - theres a William Hill Scottish Cup final involving Rangers and another big city club, Hibernian, to look forward to.The word from inside Hampden Park is that demand for cup final tickets outstrips even that for the colossal Old Firm semi-final! Hibs and Rangers fans are noticeably looking forward to this game more than they have any other in recent years. McCann: Stubbs tactical edge Neil McCann is backing Rangers to prolong Hibernians Scottish Cup misery this weekend... Why is there such a final frenzy? First and foremost, both sets of fans know that their favourites can win it. For much of this season, it was difficult to separate the clubs in the league - it was two home wins apiece. The years of mayhem at Rangers and, similarly, Hibernians slide into the Championship - and their extended stay there - means the cup final has additional... well... everything! Despite their Championship status, Hibs managed to reach the final of the League Cup. But that good work seemed to be unravelled by the nature of the late defeat to Ross County at Hampden, coupled with a complete collapse in the league. The form slump led to a new phrase entering the Scottish football dictionary... Hibernian will look to end a run of 10 Scottish Cup final defeats stretching back to 1902 when they play Rangers on Saturday Hibsed it (phrasal verb) - to lose a football game, usually near the end, when victory would seem like the easier option. Hibs have Hibsed it again.Dont dare say those words within earshot of Alan Stubbs. The Hibernian manager knows only too well that if his team dont Hibs it against Rangers and actually win the cup for the first time since 1902, then the phrase can be removed from the footy lexicon as quickly as it appeared there - and sports most enduring hoodoo will also have been ended. Hibernian were victorious the last time the sides met, defeating Rangers 3-2 at Easter Road Cup finals are usually decided by courage. The team that shows the most of it has a habit of winning. In recent years, though, theres been an additional influencing factor in finals.Since the introduction of the divisional play-offs by the old Scottish Football League, the three divisions below the Premiership have all completed their 36-game season some weeks before the top leagues 38-game campaign has ended. This has presented a problem for the lower-league sides: how to rest the players without letting them switch off. Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann is expecting the Scottish Cup final to be a tight match This years is the fifth final since 2006 that teams from outside the Premiership have featured. A decade ago, the then Division 2 winners Gretna lost on penalties to Hearts; since then Division One/Championship Queen of the South, Ross County and Falkirk have all tried to take the final step. All have failed, despite some having engineered some big cup shocks along the way.And that could be where Hibs have the edge in this unprecedented all-Championship final. Their season was extended beyond the end of Rangers campaign by their participation in the play-offs. The last competitive game for Stubbsy and co - one that ended in late defeat in the play-off semis against Falkirk - was just eight days before Hampden. Wallace: Time to deliver Lee Wallace will get the chance to lift his first major trophy as a Rangers player on Saturday... Rangers, on the other hand, havent played a game with anything riding on it since the Old Firm semi-final FIVE weeks ago! Mark Warburton will have had sleepless nights worrying about the after-effects of winning the title so early and the cold storage which followed it.Will Rangers be rested or ready? Will Hibs be sore or stimulated? Is momentum more powerful than inertia? Answering those questions with me in the studio will be a panel of multiple cup winners: Scotland manager (and Hibs fan!) Gordon Strachan, former Hibs and Rangers manager Alex McLeish and Skys Neil McCann, a five-time cup winner. Former Hibernian defender John Brownlie and former Rangers winger Willie Henderson look ahead to Saturdays Scottish Cup final Make sure you tune in from 2pm to enjoy the full live build-up from Hampden - well have exclusive interviews with the Rangers squad and management, Hibs and Scotland midfielder John McGinn tells us about his Hampden hopes and theres my sit-down with Alan Stubbs, a thought-provoking chat about how a cup final drugs test saved his life. So, years of adversity have given the Hibees and the Bluenoses a renewed hunger for success. Saturday May 21 will be the day the good times return - for one set of fans. Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs says his side are determined to win the Scottish Cup final against Rangers Next season, Brendan Rodgers Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts will all invest to meet the changes in the landscape brought about by Rangers winning promotion. The fixtures for 2016/17 will be announced by the SPFL on Sky Sports News HQ on June 17, so the excitement starts early! Mark the date in your diary... Brendan certainly will!I was asked this week what my personal ambitions are and, without hesitating, I instinctively said: to be in the studio the night Scotland finally qualify for a major tournament! Scotlands World Cup qualifiers are live on Sky Sports next season. Thats something else to look forward to in what will be a outstanding season for the game here. The campaign which ends this weekend has been one in which more of the matches that mattered in Scotland have been live on Sky Sports and its been a pleasure and a privilege to cover them for you. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Seton Hall no longer has star Isaiah Whitehead to lean on.The Pirates have depth and balance though -- and that was enough for them to pass their first road test of 2016-17.Myles Powell scored 26 points off the bench, Desi Rodriguez had 25 and Seton Hall beat Iowa 91-83 on Thursday night.Khadeen Carrington added 20 points for the Pirates (3-0), who shot 51 percent from the floor with eight 3s and outscored the Hawkeyes 50-24 in the paint. Our team will be much more balanced this year, said Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard after Whitehead left for the NBA.Powell buried a 3 and followed by a layup to put Seton Hall up 82-74 with 3:15 to go -- and then drilled another long 3 to make it a 10-point game a minute later. Rodriguez followed with a 3 that sent the fans to the exits.Iowa made a few late 3s to make it close before falling for the first time in 2016-17.Senior Peter Jok had 30 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double, and freshman Tyler Cook scored a career-high 24 points for the Hawkeyes (2-1).I would have liked to have seen us play better defense over the duration, especially in the second half. We tried defenses, we changed defenses; press, we went to zone. We just didnt perform to the level thats necessary, Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said.BIG PICTURESeton Hall: The Pirates should be a factor in the Big East. They started five upperclassmen who were unfazed by their first road game -- although a 9 p.m. ET tip-off time on a week night kept the crowd down a bit. Seton Hall forced Iowa to commit 17 turnovers.Iowa: Win or lose, a matchup against a tough, veteran team halfway through November was exactly what the Hawkeyes needed. Air Max Pas Cher. McCaffery is still trying to find a rotation that can win in the Big Ten, using 11 players in the first half alone. But it looks like Jok has found a more than capable sidekick in Cook, who can seemingly do everything but knock down free throws.NOT-SO FREE THROWSCook was a mess at the free-throw line, going just 5 of 12. But neither team could covert its freebies, as Seton Hall was 17 of 31 and Iowa was 19 of 32.SMOKE SHOWIowa brought out two sets of pyrotechnics during its player introductions. The smoke lingered in the air for roughly half of the first half. But Iowas other new wrinkles, including a new court, lighting and a massive new scoreboard over center court, has vastly improved the game-day experience at Carver-Hawkeye Arena -- which had begun to show its age until recent renovations.HE SAID ITTheres not a time where he shoots the ball where I think its not going in. He plays with a lot of confidence. He plays like I think all kids should play, just having fun, Willard said of Powell.UP NEXTSeton Halls schedule doesnt let up much. LOS ANGELES -- Former football star Tim Tebow held a tryout for Major League Baseball teams Tuesday in Los Angeles, showing off a powerful bat and a few areas of needed improvement, as scouts and media diligently chronicled his efforts to make a bold foray into a new sport at age 29.Tebow got mixed reviews after a workout that lasted more than two hours before an audience of 28 MLB teams at Rod Dedeaux Field on the campus of the University of Southern California. Only the Chicago Cubs and the Oakland Athletics didnt attend.Tebows heavily muscled, 255-pound physique and 6.70-ish time in the 60-yard dash were impressive to the scouts. He also showed undeniable hitting ability with a series of line drives and long homers during batting practice. But Tebow also showed he still needs baseball seasoning when he faced live pitching from former big leaguers David Aardsma and Chad Smith, who repeatedly fooled him with off-speed pitches. Tebow could only grin in frustration after he fanned on a series of changeups and breaking balls. There is 100 percent nerves, no question about it, Tebow said. When youre at the combine or a pro day, you have your body of work for four years, everything that you did, so its not just that one day. Here, you might have seen me when I was 17, but you havent seen me since. A lot goes into it, so youd better show something. A lot of nerves, a lot of pressure, for sure.Tebow, who is attempting to rekindle a baseball career that ended when he was a high school junior in suburban Jacksonville, Florida, in 2005, told reporters that hes determined to pursue baseball as hard as he can and hes not afraid of failing. This isnt about publicity, Tebow said. Its definitely not about money. I took a pay cut to do this. For me, you pursue what you love regardless of what else happens. If you fail or fall flat on your face, and thats the worst thing that can happen, its OK. When did pursuing what you love become such a bad thing? Ill make all the sacrifices to be the best I can.Aardsma, who pitched to Tebow in a private workout last week, said Tuesdays performance wasnt Tebows best.Today was the worst Ive seen him, Aardsma said to the Los Angeeles Times. Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys. It looked like he was trying really hard, overswinging a bit. Its what you do when youve got 200 people and cameras everywhere and youre the only guy theyre watching.?According to one scout, Tebow showed a below-average 40 grade arm on the 20-80 scouts scale. Tebow caught everything hit to him during shagging, but struggled with his footwork a couple of times.A few big league teams talked privately with Tebow after the workout, and he seems unlikely to have trouble finding an organization willing to give a chance to a celebrity with clear baseball ability, however rudimentary.Tebow realizes he is still far from the big leagues, but he hopes to play in the instructional league in Arizona next month before heading into winter league ball, perhaps even in Latin America.Tebows pursuit of a baseball career has elicited strong reactions pro and con. Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter and outfielder Adam Jones are among those whove made comments or social media posts either poking fun at or disparaging his attempts to play baseball after an 11-year absence from the sport.Conversely, Aardsma and former big league slugger Gary Sheffield have pronounced themselves pleasantly surprised by Tebows progress as a hitter.Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, who teamed with Tebow to bring Florida national football titles in 2006 and 2008, called Tebow an incredible high school baseball player whose quest to play the sport professionally should be taken seriously.Im very biased, and everybody knows that, but dont count him out, Meyer told Monday.Tebow has been working out since late May with former big league catcher Chad Moeller, who runs a baseball school in Scottsdale, Arizona. Moeller said he has spent about 80 hours with Tebow working on hitting and fielding and talking baseball over the past three months. From what Ive seen and have continued to see, people will be surprised, Moeller said before the workout. Theyll be more than surprised.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.? The club released the colorful Valverde from his contract with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, ending a stay that included several highs and lows. "We tried and he tried and it just didnt work," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Ill always have great memories of him. He did a terrific job for this organization. He was a terrific closer and a terrific teammate." The peak of Valverdes time in Detroit came in 2011 when he was 49 for 49 in save chances. He saved 35 games last season, but faltered in the playoffs and became a free agent. He didnt sign with another team and Detroit eventually brought him back on a minor league deal, calling him up to the majors in late April. Then we can build on it the rest of the game. The Ducks have won three in a row at Honda Center. We had a pretty strong homestand up until this point, and we wanted to win another one before hitting the road, Ritchie said. We welcome Todd Stansbury home.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report Cheap NCAA Jerseys Authentic . -- On the field, it was business as usual for Jameis Winston and No. Cheap College Football Jerseys .ca! Hi Kerry, Its another day and here we are looking at another dubious hit to the head. In this case Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky elbowed Saku Koivu in the head about a second after he dished off the puck to a teammate, knocking him unconscious. .500 on the season. The Jets are now 0-5-1 in the second game of back-to-backs. The game started the same way the Vancouver game started the night before, with the Jets taking the first two penalties of the game and killing off the first, but the Oilers getting on the board first, scoring on the second man-advantage. PITTSBURGH -- When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Sean Davis in the second round last spring, defensive coordinator Keith Butler reveled in the possibilities. Here was a 6-foot-1, 202-pound guy who could play both safety and cornerback depending on the situation, someone with the size and the speed to keep up with -- if not totally neutralize -- players like New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.Davis may very well develop into such a player, but hes not there yet.You would like to think we could put him on Gronk and say we got him, Butler said. I dont think anybody can do that.Particularly on the NFLs 30th-ranked pass defense, one that faces Gronkowski, Tom Brady and the rest of the NFLs most diverse offenses on Sunday when the Patriots (5-1) visit Heinz Field. Bradys lit up the Steelers for 24 touchdowns against just three interceptions in 10 career meetings with the Steelers (4-2), most of them against variations of the Steel Curtain that were far more imposing than the current iteration, one rife with inexperience, particularly in the secondary. The growing pains have been evident. Davis has seen his playing time fluctuate and didnt play one defensive snap in last weeks one-sided 30-15 loss to Miami . He may not get back in the lineup this weekend either. Cornerback Artie Burns, a first-round pick, is improving but still very much a work in progress. Special teams ace Rob Golden is in his first year as a starting safety and his main backup is Jordan Dangerfield, a former practice squad player.Throw in linebacker Ryan Shazier -- like Gronkowski a physical marvel -- and the balky knee thats kept him out of the lineup for a month plus a pass rush thats been more rumor than fact in Pittsburghs two losses (zero sacks) and the prospect of facing a dominant Brady seems like a mismatch. We need to play more than one defense against these guys, Butler said. Theyre very good. They can pick you apart if they can figure out what youre doing. Its finding the right looks to throw at Brady -- who has pretty much seen everything -- and the right people to put in the right places thats the problem. Then theres the issue of youthful exuberance. With so many fresh faces, the lure to try and go above and beyond while facing the NFLs top tight end and a Hall of Fame quarterback is only too real. Its tough sometimes, Shazier saaid. NCAA Basketball Jerseys China. Guys want to make plays. Youre playing against one of the best guys and you want to see how you relate and everything like that.Shazier sees it happen regularly to opposing defenses trying to figure out what to do with Steelers All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown.Guys come up with a game plan to stop AB and when youre not sound enough, he destroys you, Shazier said. Its the same with Gronkowski, who set a career high with 162 yards receiving last Sunday against Cincinnati. Having Shazier back may help. And the Steelers are at least a little bit bigger -- if not necessarily better -- than the group that allowed Brady and Gronkowski to hook up for three scores in New Englands 28-21 victory in the 2015 opener. Burns is 6-feet tall, as are cornerbacks Ross Cockrell and Justin Gilbert. While thats still considerably smaller than the 6-6, 265-pound Gronkowski or the 6-7, 248-pound Martellus Bennett, its a start.I think it goes back to being disruptive, said Cockrell, whos had moderate success this season against bigger receivers like Cincinnatis A.J. Green and Brandon Marshall of the New York Jets. Were going to be able to put our hands on some of these guys and disrupt them and disrupt their timing.Davis is hopeful to get in on the act. He understands why hes not atop the depth chart. On a team with lesser ambitions, maybe hed get to play through the mistakes. Not so on the AFC North leaders.I cant complain or mope, Davis said. Ive got to handle my (role). One that will continue its evolution on Sunday in a game that will be as much about mental and physical discipline as it is simple talent. If you abandon your job and help somebody out or try to be selfish and make a play when you really shouldnt, theyre going to capitalize on it, he said. When the plays come your way, youve got to makeem.Game notes Shazier practiced Thursday and is hopeful he can play. Golden (foot) and S Mike Mitchell (knee) also practiced for a second straight day. ...
