Jon Gruden is football through and through. It doesn't matter what level Darren Fells Jersey , what age, or where.

The former and now current coach of the Raiders displayed that again Tuesday by overseeing the distribution of funds and equipment to four Oakland youth football programs through the DICK'S Sporting Goods Sports Matter Program. Gruden has been a major spokesman for that initiative for more than four years.

In the afternoon at Raiders headquarters, Gruden presented grants of $15,000 to the head coaches of McClymonds High School and Oakland Tech. He invited the coaches of both teams to the Raiders main office for a "special behind- the-scenes tour" and discussion of football in Oakland. When the tour ended, Gruden handed over the checks to the surprised coaches.

At night, coaches and players from the East Bay Panthers and San Leandro Crusaders headed to a "friendly scrimmage" at Burrell Field. When the teams ran onto the field, they were stunned to see new football helmets Duke Johnson Jersey , pads, balls and water bottles laid out on the field for them.

Each league received a $50,000 grant.

"Being back in Oakland and getting back into coaching has only fired me up more to work with DICK'S Sports Matter program to help more kids have the opportunity to play," said Gruden, who also gave the Panthers and Crusaders a pep talk. "Like so many other cities in the U.S., we have an issue with youth sports funding here in Oakland. Costs are rising 鈥?kids can't afford to play and coaches can't afford to coach.

"Seeing these kids' faces light up and knowing that sports will teach them so many valuable lessons they will carry with them off the field is really special."

Gruden encourages other youth sports program struggling to get by "to visit SportsMatter.org to apply for help."

"If you give your absolute best effort on the field, the lessons that sports teach will stay with you forever Chad Kelly Jersey , and help you to be your best in every part of your life," he said.

Oakland has an 18.9 percent poverty rate, and the highest crime rate of any city in California.

Many areas in cities across the country need funding for their youth sports and school athletic programs. According to Up2Us Sports, a nonprofit whose research, training, and on-the-ground initiatives empower sports programs to become an agent of positive social change, billions of dollars have been cut from school sports budgets in recent years. These cuts disproportionately impact students in low income areas DeMarcus Ware Jersey , and students from low-income families are four times more likely to decrease participation in sports due to costs.

Student athletes have an 11 percent higher graduation rate than non-athletes, Up2Us Sports reports. The U.S. Department of Education adds that students who participate in sports are four times more likely to attend college.

DICK'S and its foundation created Sports Matter in 2014, pledging more than $50 million to support youth sports programs in need and raise awareness of the funding crisis. To date, Sports Matter has helped fund tens of thousands of youth sports programs and impacted hundreds of thousands of young athletes nationwide.

"It's days like today that make it all worth it, and we can't thank coach Gruden and DICK'S enough," said Jacob Davis, president of the East Bay Panthers. "We love these kids and know how important sports are to keep them off the streets and doing positive things in their lives. This money will go a long way in helping our leagues survive and thrive."

The New Orleans Pelicans say they’ve voided around 2 Mike Singletary Jersey ,500 playoff tickets that were purchased improperly during a pre-sale event for the second round of the NBA playoffs.

The club says the event was designed exclusively for season-tickets holders, but that codes provided for online purchases were shared with people who were not eligible for the promotion.

The Pelicans say they have not previously had a problem with the improper sharing of promotional codes for ticket sales, but that an ”unprecedented demand for playoff tickets resulted in tickets being purchased by non-season ticket or partial season ticket holders.”

The club says it conducted a review of the presale and voided all purchases from unqualified buyers.

The Pelicans say they have sought to notify those whose tickets have been voided, as well as business which sell Pelicans tickets on the secondary market.

John Dorsey might make a deal for the top pick in this year's NFL draft 鈥?if the price is the right.

At the league's scouting combine on Thursday Ricardo Louis Jersey , the Cleveland Browns general manager took his sales pitch public.

"There are a lot of things we can do at No. 1 and not just get a quarterback," Dorsey said. "If someone wants to come up and make a trade, I'd make a trade, too. Just give me a call and see what's up."

Cleveland's constant quest to find the right quarterback has become perhaps the most-watched show in the league.

They've used 28 different starters since 1999, and it's unclear if they'll cast aside yet another youngster, DeShone Kizer, after he led the league in interceptions and went 0-15 as the starter.

Dorsey has the advantage of having watched Kizer perform in the final four games of 2017.

"What I really liked was how much he improved from week to week," Dorsey said. "I think I've told you that a young quarterback usually makes exponential growth from Year 1 to Year 2."

Back home, anxious fans are still clamoring to find that elusive franchise quarterback.

They're frustrated after watching Cleveland whiff on Johnny Manziel in 2015, trade the No. 2 pick to Philadelphia in 2016 that allowed the Eagles to choose Carson Wentz and pass last year on Deshaun Watson. Instead, they took Kizer in the second round.

And with a deep quarterback class and two of the top four picks in April, some think this could finally be the time. Dorsey might not see it the same way.

After acknowledging the Browns interviewed an unnamed quarterback on Wednesday night and intend to meet all of the big names before the bulk of the combine work wraps up Sunday, he dropped no hints about what the Browns might do with either pick.

Instead, he's looking for long-term solutions.

Coach Hue Jackson, who is 1-31 over the last two seasons Demaryius Thomas Jersey , certainly isn't advocating for more change.

"I would hope not," Jackson said when asked Wednesday if he intends to start a rookie QB. "There's going to be other opportunities as we all know. We've just got to see how it all fits as we move forward."

Finding a veteran quarterback in free agency, such as AJ McCarron, remains a possibility, too.

But if a quarterback-needy team is willing to make a quality offer, Dorsey could spend all of those precious picks on putting a better supporting cast around Kizer.

Dorsey also didn't provide an update on the status of longtime left tackle Joe Thomas. After playing more than 10,000 consecutive snaps, Thomas ended the season on injured reserve with a torn left triceps and has been pondering retirement.

"I have greatly admired Joe from his time at Wisconsin through his time with the Browns," Dorsey said. "I think he deserves a little respect and when it comes time to make the proper decision, I'm sure he'll make it."

With its decision to ban kneeling during the national anthem, critics are accusing the NFL of prioritizing being in the good financial graces of mainstream America over the social justice passions of its players trying to draw attention to the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of police.

Some opponents of the new policy now vow to never watch an NFL game again.

The NFL's new anthem policy 鈥?similar to NBA rules in place for decades 鈥?makes the athletes stand for "The Star-Spangled Banner" or be absent from the field while it's played.

Critics say the league acted without input from its majority-black players and buckled to pressure from some major advertisers and even President Donald Trump, who rallied his mostly-white base against players for failing to display their patriotism, shifting the debate from social justice for minorities to how to act during the anthem itself. Others, including some players, applauded the league's action or took no issue with the policy.

"I think they made this decision to placate Donald Trump and those like him who blindly equate standing for the national anthem with patriotism Tyler Boyd Jersey ," said Democratic U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond of Louisiana, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. "The country I want is a country where everyone wants to stand for the national anthem," Richmond said, emphasizing the word "wants."

Vice President Mike Pence tweeted "#Winning" and declared the decision "a win for the fans, a win for (President Trump), and a win for America."

The NFL started requiring players in the league to be on the field for the anthem in 2009 鈥?the year it signed a marketing deal with the military. Its new rule passed Wednesday permits players to stay in the locker room during the "The Star-Spangled Banner" but requires them to stand if they come to the field.

Taking a knee during the anthem has been an issue since August 2016, when now-unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick started protesting the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of police. The issue bubbled over from the field into living rooms as other players joined the movement, and morphed into a larger discussion last fall when Trump called on NFL owners to fire players who did not stand during the national anthem.

"This is white supremacy, period. A blatant and disgusting attempt to strip black athletes of their voice and reduce them to a number on a jersey 鈥?all while continuing to profit off of their bodies," said Rashad Robinson, executive director of advocacy group Color of Change.

Bree Newsome, who climbed a pole to snatch down the Confederate flag at the South Carolina statehouse in 2015, tweeted: "For the white-owned NFL to blackball Kaepernick & then change policy to specifically target Black athletes' protest of racism is not simply a matter of football. It is about using one of the largest stages in America to reinforce racial caste in USA."

Civil rights groups denounced the decision.

"Instead of working together to address an issue disproportionately plaguing the communities of the majority of NFL players, the owners instead desire that players bury their heads, shut up Jerry Hughes Jersey , and just play football," NAACP chairman Derrick Johnson said.

Kaepernick and other NFL players who kneeled said their protests were over the shootings and other mistreatment of African Americans at the hands of law enforcement. The quarterback was not resigned by the San Francisco 49ers after beginning his protest and has not played for an NFL team since. He has filed a grievance against the league, as has out of work safety and fellow protester Eric Reid.

Calls to boycott the NFL because of the anthem decision started immediately online. NFL fans previously had threatened to boycott the NFL because players were kneeling during the Star Spangled Banner, and others said they wouldn't watch until Kaepernick was signed by a team. Now a new group is promising not to watch pro football games.

"As a former NFL player I am extremely conflicted but more than likely will not be supporting anymore until this is resolved amongst other issues," said Matthew A. Cherry, who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens.

The NFL Players Association said it would challenge any changes that violate the collective bargaining agreement.

"This is fear of a diminished bottom line. It's also fear of a president turning his base against a corporation," Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long said on Twitter . "This is not patriotism. Don't get it confused. These owners don't love America more than the players demonstrating and taking real action to improve it. It also lets you, the fan, know where our league stands."

Cardinals safety Antoine Bethea, a 12-year NFL veteran, said "fining players for really expressing what they believe, I think that's kind of overboard."

Others said they approved of the compromise.

"I'm going to stand for the national anthem," Denver defensive end Derek Wolfe said. "Whatever anybody else wants to do Andre Hal Jersey , that's their decision and they have the right to their opinion. So, they can do whatever they want 鈥?as long as they stay in the locker room, I guess."

Pittsburgh Steelers guard Ramon Foster shrugged his shoulders when asked about the policy and said that in a way, players are powerless.

"If the team says, 'This is what we're doing,' and ownership (does too), you either deal with it or you're probably going to get cut," Foster said.

The Washington Redskins will honor their 1987 replacement team that won all three games by giving them Super Bowl rings next week.

The team will hold a ceremony Tuesday at its practice facility with replacement players and the general manager of the '87 NFL champions Ramik Wilson Jersey , Charley Casserly.

It's an unusual move considering how divisive the replacement games were during the NFL players' strike that season. But the replacements helped Washington go 11-4 overall 鈥?one game was canceled by the walkout 鈥?before winning two playoff games and the Super Bowl over Denver.

"Their contributions are part of Redskins history and represent an integral reason why a Lombardi Trophy from the 1987 campaign resides in our facility today," team owner Dan Snyder said.

In Washington's first game with replacement players, it defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 28-21 as wide receiver Anthony Allen set a franchise record with 225 yards receiving on seven catches. The next week, the Redskins beat the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants 38-12. Despite the strike ending four days later, the Redskins' replacement players beat Dallas 13-7 even though the Cowboys had several starters in their lineup.

The next week Jerry Hughes Jersey , all regulars returned to the NFL.

On Tuesday, the Virginia General Assembly commended the replacement members of the 1987 team. Quarterback Tony Robinson and defensive lineman Anthony Sagnella represented the players in Richmond.

The Philadelphia Eagles 41-33 Super Bowl 52 victory over the New England Patriots was, for the most part, had excellent reffing and didn't come with much controversy. But upon further review, the officials apparently missed a very crucial call that could have changed the outcome of the game.Nick Foles' one-yard touchdown catch from Trey Burton near the end of the first half was arguably the biggest play of the game. But according to Mike Pereira - former VP of NFL officiating and current rules analyst for Fox Sports - the Eagles should have been penalized for illegal formation.Per聽Clark Judge from the Talk of Fame Network Zach Miller Jersey , Pereira said that the league deemed it as "a judgement call," but wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was not lined up properly, which should have been a penalty:鈥淣ot only that, it鈥檚 a trick play. And if you鈥檙e going to run a trick-type play, then you have to be lined up properly. You could either have six men on the line Jeremy Vujnovich Jersey , or you could have an ineligible number lined up at the end of the line, which was the case. I know what the league has said, but they would have been a lot more comfortable if they would have called an illegal formation.鈥淲e always use a yard [within the line of scrimmage], maybe a yard-and-a-half. But that鈥檚 two [yards], and even a little bit beyond two. It鈥檚 kind of one of those that has no effect on the play. I get it. But they didn鈥檛 line up properly. And it really should鈥檝e been called.鈥滺ad the refs penalized the Eagles Marquis Haynes Jersey , it's unlikely head coach Doug Pederson would have told his players to go for it. One has to assume they would have settled for a Jake Elliott field goal instead.Even if the Eagles were penalized and had to take a field goal, the final score would have been 37-33. As such, the referees shouldn't be too scrutinized for missing what Pereira believes should have been an illegal formation penalty..

Lawrence Guy has tried to use every trial he’s faced in his life as an opportunity to learn something about himself.

It helped the Patriots defensive lineman trudge through learning disabilities as a child and in college.

Later Jalen Ramsey Jersey , he overcame the emptiness he felt while helping his wife through a miscarriage during her fifth month of pregnancy.

But as he begins his second training camp in New England, the eighth-year defensive lineman is feeling more grounded and less like an NFL nomad.

He proved to be one of the few consistent pieces on the Patriots defense last season and expectations will be higher as one of the most-tenured players on the defensive line.

Guy is embracing it as his next challenge and says the lessons he’s learned off the football field have prepared him for whatever comes next for him on it.

”I’m still growing,” Guy said. ”Every year you play you’re growing trying to be a better player. … I’m not looking at my years in the league as `Oh, I’ve made it.’ I’m looking at how I’m going to get better.”

Last season Guy highlighted the struggles he and his wife, Andrea, endured in 2016 by honoring the organization that helped him through the loss of their unborn child , Estelle, during the NFL’s My Cleats, My Cause Initiative.

The pain will never fully subside, Guy said, but they did reach a milestone this past June when Andrea gave birth to a daughter, Adriana Paola.

Her arrival not only gave Guy an emotional pickup, he said it has grounded him as a football player.

”When she came Chase Daniel Jersey , the outlook on life became different,” Guy said. ”Your perspective when you come on this field is different. You know you have someone else behind you. I’m playing for my last name, I’m playing for my teammates and I’m playing for my daughter.”

Adriana is already walking and has run into her father’s arms every day after practice.

”To have her here … she may not quite understand it, but you can see the eyes open up when she sees me,” Guy said. ”That feeling is amazing.”

The Patriots signed Guy to a four-year, incentive-laden free agent deal prior to last season. He proved to be worthy of investment, producing 58 combined tackles during the 2017 season – more than any other New England interior lineman. The team showed its appreciation for his efforts in 2017 and following their Super Bowl loss to Philadelphia added a $500,000 bonus to his 2018 salary.

It was a gesture the team didn’t have to make.

Guy appeared in 54.91 percent of New England’s snaps in 2017, just short of the 55 percent that would have triggered the bonus.

He will have to make the roster to see that money, with no guaranteed salary left in his deal after the $4.9 million he made last season. But Guy seems to be a lock on a unit that needs continuity after struggling down the stretch of 2017.

Run stopping is an area that Guy excels in. The hope is that 6-foot-2, 305-pound Danny Shelton, an offseason trade acquisition from Cleveland, can supplement Guy’s efforts in 2018.

Shelton said recently that it’s been easy to develop a rapport with fellow linemen such as Guy Kavon Frazier Jersey , Malcolm Brown and defensive end Trey Flowers.

”We’re all kind of at that point in our career where we know of players and we respect each other’s game,” Shelton said. ”It’s not hard to make friends when you know and you respect the guy’s game.”

The defense will have a new look to it with linebackers coach Brian Flores calling plays following former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s departure.

Guy said he’s ready to fill whatever role the Patriots ask of him.

”Right now, we’re just trying to stack days,” Guy said. ”We’re not looking who’s this or who’s that. We’re trying to come together as a unit and move forward every single day. … Every day I step on that field I have to get better at something.”

鈥?Tom Brady is losing one of his top receivers, and Jared Goff is getting a speedy new target. The New England Patriots traded receiver Brandin Cooks to the Rams on Tuesday for Los Angeles’ first-round draft pick, the 23rd overall.New England also sent a fourth-round choice to the Rams, and the Patriots got a sixth-rounder from Los Angeles. The 24-year-old Cooks had 65 catches for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns in his only season with the Patriots. His receiving stats were second on the defending AFC champions’ roster only to tight end Rob Gronkowski, who barely topped Cooks in all three categories.Cooks’ clear chemistry with Brady makes the trade fairly surprising for New England, particularly after the recent departure of another favorite Brady target, Danny Amendola, who signed with the Dolphins. But the defending NFC West champion Rams made an aggressive offer to secure a potential No. 1 receiver and proven deep threat just three weeks after the departure of Sammy Watkins, who got a three-year Zach Miller Jersey , $48 million deal from the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. After weeks of rumors about the Rams’ interest in acquiring star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from the New York Giants, they managed to find another elite talent at the position. Cooks’ speed and versatility should fit in well in coach Sean McVay’s schemes as he lines up alongside Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp in the NFL’s highest-scoring offense last season. The trade also appears to be a strategic move on the part of the Patriots: Cooks is entering the fifth year of his rookie contract, and he can become a free agent after the 2018 season. With three 1,000-yard seasons in a four-year pro career that began with New Orleans, Cooks would likely be a coveted player after another big year, and the Patriots may not have been willing to pay a high price to keep him and may be looking to get maximum value now.Watkins was in the same contractual situation when the Rams acquired him from Buffalo during training camp last year, and he parlayed a solid season in Los Angeles into an enormous contract elsewhere. Yet the Rams don’t appear to regret the trade, even though Watkins was their fourth-leading receiver with 39 catches, because he excelled in the red zone with eight TD grabs and provided a deep threat that had to be respected by opponents.Cooks will be asked to do all that and more with the Rams, who haven’t let up on their intense offseason pursuit of a championship roster. The Rams acquired elite cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib last month, and they signed defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh last week to form a ferocious duo with AP Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. Los Angeles has lost leading tackler Alec Ogletree and top cornerback Trumaine Johnson during its machinations, yet kept its entire offensive line intact for Goff and running back Todd Gurley. With the draft picks acquired in Tuesday’s deal, New England now holds four picks in the first two rounds later this month and four more picks in Rounds 3-7. That gives coach Bill Belichick the ability to go shopping for a young prospect or perhaps to make a deal for a veteran.Still John Simon Jersey , thLawrence Guy has tried to use every trial he’s faced in his life as an opportunity to learn something about himself.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (5-11)

OPEN CAMP: July 26 Greg Mancz Jersey , One Buccaneer Place, Tampa, Florida

LAST YEAR: Failed to play up to heightened expectations coming off winning nine games previous season. Lost 10 of 13 following 2-1 start, missing playoffs for 10th straight year. QB Jameis Winston missed three games, plus most of fourth due to injury he tried to play through in three other starts. Lack of consistent running attack was problem. Gerald McCoy-led defense was disappointing, too, ranking last in league with 22 sacks.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: DE Jason Pierre-Paul, DT Beau Allen A'Shawn Robinson Jersey , DE Vinny Curry, DT Vita Vea, RB Ronald Jones, C Ryan Jensen, DT Mitch Unrein.

IMPORTANT LOSSES: RB Doug Martin, DE Robert Ayers, Jr., G J.R. Sweezy Allen Hurns Jersey , DT Chris Baker, DT Clinton McDonald, S T.J. Ward.

CAMP NEEDS: Reconstructing defensive line and improving anemic pass rush were top priorities this offseason. However, getting newcomers Pierre-Paul, Allen, Curry, Unrein and first-round draft pick Vea acclimated to defensive coordinator Mike Smith's system isn't only concern entering camp. Winston will miss first three games of season while serving suspension for violating NFL's personal conduct policy. So, balancing starter's workload in practice along with that of backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick Bob Lilly Jersey , will be focal point during preseason.

EXPECTATIONS: With Winston entering his fourth season, suspended three games for off-field behavior and also due to see his salary increase to $20.9 million in 2019, coach Dirk Koetter and general manager Jason Licht 鈥?as well as 24-year-old Winston 鈥?are on hot seat to end franchise's long playoff drought. Winston will miss season opener at New Orleans, as well as home games against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. An 0-3 start could be difficult to overcome, even if Pierre-Paul, Vea and Curry are answers to club's pass-rushing woes.

锟斤拷 Geno Smith has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The team announced the agreement with the quarterback Sunday night. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Smith will likely join former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones in backing up Phillip Rivers.

Smith played four seasons with the New York Jets after going 39th overall in the 2013 draft, then spent last season with the New York Giants. Smith started one game for the Giants, throwing for 212 yards and a TD in a 24-17 loss against Oakland.

Smith has appeared in 35 games Maliek Collins Jersey , including 31 starts, and thrown for 6,174 yards with 29 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 659 yards and seven TDs.

That gives coach Bill Belichick the ability to go shopping for a young prospect or perhaps to make a deal for a veteran.Still John Simon Jersey , there’s also the possibility that the Patriots may do nothing at all at receiver heading into training camp.Julian Edelman is expected to return after suffering a preseason knee injury, and Malcolm Mitchell is also slated to return after spending time on injured reserve with a knee issue.Cooks was New Orleans’ first-round selection out of Oregon State in 2014, and he played three solid seasons for the Saints while emerging as a top young receiver.Yet when the competitive receiver apparently disagreed with the Saints about the height of his abilities and his long-term future, he was traded to New England 13 months ago for a first-rounder and other picks.Although Cooks is one year away from free agency, the Rams probably feel they’ve got a better chance to do a long-term deal with Cooks. Cooks and Goff are represented by the same agent, and Cooks is a Stockton, California, native whose family will be able to see him play regularly.AP Sports Writer Greg Beacham in Los Angeles contributed to this story..

Kicker Dustin Hopkins has re-signed with the Washington Redskins Marquis Haynes Jersey , and backup offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe was given a second-round tender worth about $2.9 million.

The Redskins announced both moves Monday.

Hopkins has made 73 of 87 field-goal attempts in three seasons, putting him at 83.9 percent, which ranks second in franchise history among kickers with at least 50 tries. His career-long kick is 54 yards.

He's also made 94.9 percent of extra points, going 93 of 98.

Hopkins missed half of last season with a strained hip muscle. He went 14 of 17 on field-goal attempts and 18 of 19 on extra points.

The 6-foot-8, 338-pound Nsekhe has made 11 starts in the NFL and appeared in a total of 42 games. The 32-year-old tackle started five of the last six games last season.

Matt Forte spent the past few weeks weighing his difficult decision 鈥?to continue a terrific playing career or walk away from the game he loves.

On Wednesday, one of the NFL's most versatile running backs carried the ball for the final time.

The 32-year-old Forte announced his retirement from playing after 10 NFL seasons in a humble and heartfelt statement to Sports Spectrum that he also sent on Twitter and Instagram.

"It's time for the workhorse to finally rest in his stable," Forte wrote.

鈥?Matt Forte (@MattForte22) February 28, 2018

He had one year remaining on his contract with the Jets, but knee issues during his two seasons in New York, as well as his age, made him a likely salary cap casualty this offseason.

Instead LeSean McCoy Jersey , Forte went out on his own terms.

"For the past 10 years, I've been blessed to play professionally a game that I've loved since I was 6 years old," Forte wrote. "But after much prayer and reflection, I've decided to retire from the NFL."

The move saves the Jets $3 million on their salary cap 鈥?the same amount if they had released him.

Forte's 9,796 yards rushing rank him 33rd on the NFL's career list. He also had 554 receptions, including setting the league record for running backs with 102 catches in 2014.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection's 14,468 yards from scrimmage over the past 10 years are the most of any NFL player during that span.

Forte spent his first eight seasons with Chicago after being drafted in the second round out of Tulane in 2008. With the Bears, he established himself as one of the best all-around running backs in the league as an electrifying presence who could make plays running or catching the ball out of the backfield.

Forte ran for more than 1,000 yards in five of his eight seasons with Chicago, and caught at least 50 passes six times.

"The roar of the crowd at Soldier Field as I'd break a run or make a big catch," Forte wrote Sam Mills Jersey , "will forever be ingrained in my mind."

Simply one of the best on and off the field. Class personified.

Congratulations on an amazing career, @mforte22.聽 pic.qWWE46Wzyb

He became a free agent after the 2015 season, and the Jets signed him to a three-year, $12 million contract.

Forte led New York with 813 yards rushing, but it was a career low for the running back who ended the season on injured reserve. He had arthroscopic surgery on the knee at the end of the 2016 season to repair a torn meniscus.

Forte was ready for the season opener, but swelling in the knee worsened last November and Forte said he was "basically playing on one leg" since. He ended up on injured reserve to end the season for the second straight year.

He had a career-low 381 yards rushing on just 103 carries last season and ran for two touchdowns, and also had 37 catches for 293 yards 鈥?the second-lowest totals of his career 鈥?and one TD.

Forte said late last season that he had no intentions of calling it a career, despite saying he did not produce "up to standards." But he changed his mind during the past few weeks.

"While my heart is a bit heavy as I close this chapter of my life," Forte wrote, "I am excited about what the future holds."

Forte thanked his parents Antonio Morrison Jersey , wife, agent, the Bears, the Jets and the fans in his statement. He called his career "a miracle" and said playing in Chicago allowed him "to live out my childhood dream in playing for the Bears."

The announcement drew several messages of congratulations and best wishes on social media from current and former teammates with the Jets and Bears. Fellow running backs on other teams such as DeMarco Murray and Mark Ingram also tweeted about Forte,

Former Bears center Olin Kreutz, who played with Forte for three seasons, called him "one of the best all-around backs of his era , if not the best."

Forte.. that guy was a Ball Player !!!! one of the best all around backs of his era if not the best. Congrats !! s://t.co/4jWBlLEwHc

Added former Bears fullback Jason McKie : "I knew you were special the 1st day you set foot in Halas Hall."

Former Bears coach Lovie Smith, who had Forte in his backfield from 2008-12, said "few players embody all-around success better than him! Proud to be his coach."

For the Jets, Forte's decision opens a spot in the backfield. Bilal Powell led New York with a career-high 772 yards rushing and five touchdowns, and caught 23 passes for 170 yards. He is signed through next seaso.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon tried almost every move in the book Donte Jackson Jersey , but it wasn’t enough to prevent a second consecutive shutout loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Lorenzo Cain homered and Jhoulys Chacin combined with three relievers on a six-hitter to pace the Brewers past Chicago, 1-0 on Wednesday, even as Maddon used two pitchers and a catcher in left field in the eighth inning.

The Brewers improved to 3-8 this season against the Cubs and moved 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place Chicago in the NL Central. Seven of the 11 games between the two have been shutouts, five by Chicago.

”We’re a good baseball team and we know they’re a good baseball team,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. ”This series wasn’t going to decide anything, but we know that that’s a team that’s going to be there in the end, so wins against them are important.”

Chacin (6-1) allowed four hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking four to win his sixth consecutive decision. Jeremy Jeffress pitched the seventh, Josh Hader struck out the side in the eighth and Cory Knebel worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

”Their guy was really good at keeping us off-balance,” Maddon said. ”He is not overpowering by any means but he pitches well. Sometimes that gives us a lot of trouble when a guy can pitch like that. We had a couple opportunities. We didn’t square him up at all really.”

Mike Montgomery (2-2) allowed only two hits in six innings, both by Cain. He struck out four and walked one in his fourth start since replacing injured Yu Darvish in the rotation.

Cain drove a 3-1 pitch over the wall in left with one out in the third for his eighth homer. He also opened the first inning with a single.

”It was the only run today, but it ended up winning us a ballgame,” Cain said. ”That just shows how great of a job the pitching has been doing. We’ve definitely got to get going and score some more runs. We’re definitely putting too much pressure on our pitchers as a whole.”

To open the eighth, Maddon brought in right-hander Steve Cishek, who gave up an infield single to Orlando Arcia. Cishek then moved to left field for the first time in his eight-year career as left-hander Brian Duensing came on and struck out pinch-hitter Eric Thames.

Duensing then moved to left, also for the first time in his career, and Cishek returned to the mound to retire Cain on a fielder’s choice. Duensing came back to pitch with left field being turned over to catcher Willson Contreras, who made a running catch on Christian Yelich’s drive into the corner for the third out.

”It just popped,” Maddon said. ”(Kyle) Schwarber making the last out, the pitcher coming up third. And the way their batting order set up, it just played out perfectly. You can’t always do it but it worked out today.”

The Cubs won Monday’s series opener 7-2 with five runs in the 11th Michael Roberts Jersey , but managed just two hits in Tuesday’s 4-0 loss.

”We played well the first game but we only got two runs up to the 11th inning of that game and then shutout-shutout,” Maddon said. ”We almost should be grateful we won one out of three.”

The Brewers stranded runners at third in each of the first two innings. In the second, rightfielder Jason Heyward prevented a run, charging in for a sensational sliding grab on Erik Kratz’s one-out sinking liner and then recovering quickly to hold Hernan Perez at third.

MADDON’S MANEUVERING

Duensing, who said he last played left field in high school in 2001, was apprehensive when Cain came to the plate in the eighth. ”I was praying he would stay away from Lorenzo Cain,” Duensing said of Cishek. ”It looked like he was trying to hook one (to left) and I was not appreciative of that. Cishek got the job done so were able to get through there and give our team a chance.”

Maybe because it didn’t affect the outcome, Counsell admired Maddon’s ingenuity. ”It was creative. It was smart. They got matchups they wanted. He did a nice job.”

BRYANT RESTED

With a day off on Thursday, struggling third baseman Kris Bryant was held out to give him two days rest. Bryan is hitless in his last 15 at-bats and has not homered since May 14. Even trailing 1-0 in the ninth, Maddon resisted the urge to use Bryant as a pinch-hitter. ”He has been struggling a lot,” Maddon said. ”Theoretically it sounds wonderful. But I thought (Chris) Gimenez had some good swings today. It’s an easy dialogue to conjure up but I was really trying to give him the day off.”

CAIN JOINS COUNSELL IN BREWERS LORE

The Brewers 1-0 victory over the Cubs was only the second in the all-time series. Milwaukee’s only other 1-0 win was on July 5, 2004 at Miller Park in which Counsell provided the only run with a first-inning homer.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Cubs: RHP Yu Darvish, on the 10-day DL (right triceps tendinitis) and RHP Carl Edwards, also on the DL (right shoulder inflammation), each came through Tuesday’s bullpen session well, Maddon said.

Brewers: RHP Matt Albers, on the 10-day DL (right shoulder discomfort), will continue treatment throughout the weekend, and then be reassessed. … RHP Zach Davies, on the 10-day DL retroactive to May 30 (right rotator cuff inflammation), threw a bullpen session Wednesday Tashaun Gipson Jersey , but is at least three weeks away and will need two or three rehab outings, Counsell said.

UP NEXT

Cubs: Chicago is off Thursday, then heads to St. Louis for a three-game series against the Cardinals. Left-hander Jon Lester (7-2, 2.22) starts for the Cubs, oppose

It’s been a week full of injuries, as more and more pitchers hit the disabled list, making arms a premium once again for Fantasy owners.

He’s not a pitcher, but Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez headlines the list of injured players, as the catcher will miss 3-4 weeks for the second straight season.

There are names like John Hicks, Austin Romine, Tucker Barnhart and Tom Murphy who deserve to be owned in Sanchez’ absence. Now, let’s look at some pitchers to help hold down your rotation.

PLAYERS TO PICK UP

ZACH EFLIN, SP, Philadelphia Phillies (42 percent owned in Yahoo) – First it was Nick Pivetta, now it’s Zach Eflin. The Phillies are having pitchers who were no more than a healthy arm last season turn into legit standouts. Eflin increased his velocity this year, and he’s adding more swings and misses than a season ago. Like Pivetta, it’s smart to grab him before everyone else in your league takes notice.

ZACK WHEELER, SP, New York Mets (12 percent) – Like Jacob deGrom earlier this season, the Mets struggle to win games for Wheeler. That’s OK, though Shelby Harris Jersey , as he is holding his own as of late with a reasonable ERA and a good strikeout rate. He won’t live up to the prospect hype that he had when he was moving through the system, but he can be a useful pitcher for your Fantasy roster.

SHANE BIEBER, SP, Cleveland Indians (57 percent) – Bieber was thought to be a guy who wouldn’t register big strikeout numbers, but would help Fantasy owners out in ERA, WHIP and Wins. Well, in a small sample, he’s averaging more than a strikeout per inning. Add him wherever he’s available.

ADALBERTO MONDESI, OF, Kansas City Royals (1 percent) – Speed is hard to find. Kevin Kiermaier was a suggested pickup last week as a multi-category contributor, but Mondesi is a deep-league add if you’re desperate for speed.

TWO-START PITCHERS TO STREAM

BRENT SUTER, SP, Milwaukee Brewers (39 percent) – It’s not a great week for two-start pitchers, and Suter underachieved in a juicy matchup against the Royals on Wednesday. He’s worth running out again, though, as he gets the Twins and the Braves in a two-start matchup.

KYLE GIBSON, SP, Minnesota Twins (34 percent) – Speaking of failing to capitalize, Gibson struggled against the White Sox on Wednesday. Forget that start, though, as he’s been a quality start machine this year. He’ll face a less-than-favorable team in the Brewers in his first start Jacoby Brissett Jersey , but he’ll wrap the week up against Baltimore, who struggled mightily against right-handed pitching.

NATHAN EOVALDI, SP, Tampa Bay Rays (7 percent) – Eovaldi impressed this week against the Nationals, allowing just one hit over six innings. He has a date with the Marlins and Mets next week; both of which are terrific matchups.

HITTERS TO STREAM

SCOTT SCHEBLER, OF, Cincinnati Reds (22 percent) – Jesse Winker is starting to come around for the Reds, but Schebler has been the 22nd-best outfielder in Yahoo leagues over the past 30 games as the leadoff hitter for the Reds.

LOGAN MORRISON, 1B, Minnesota Twins (13 percent) – The Twins have seven games next week in Milwaukee and against the Orioles‘ bad pitching staff. There’s only one lefty on the slate, which means Morrison is a sneaky streamer to get in your lineup.

ALEN HANSON, 2B/OF, San Francisco Giants (5 percent) – Hanson has been playing regularly for the Giants, and he’s a contributor across multiple categories, with his standout category being batting average. With three games in Colorado and four more against the all-of-the-sudden questionable St. Louis rotation, Hanson could fill the stat sheets for Fantasy owners.

Norway’s Jan Schmid won his third Nordic combined World Cup event of the season on Sunday to maintain his position as one of the gold medal favorites at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

After placing seventh in the ski jumping stage Joel Iyiegbuniwe Jersey , Schmid erased a 1 minute, 14-second deficit in the 10-kilometer cross-country race to finish 6.6 seconds ahead of Estonia’s Kristjan Ilves.

Schmid surged ahead of Ilves with less than one kilometer left to add to his previous World Cup wins in Italy and France last month.

”I managed on the last climb to catch him,” Schmid said. ”In the race I tried to go full speed at the end and hope that nobody follows me and fortunately, It worked.”

Akito Watabe of Japan Thurman Thomas Jersey , who entered Sunday’s event with four straight wins on the World Cup circuit, was third, 11.1 seconds behind.

Watabe still leads the overall World Cup standings with 905 points, 20 ahead of Schmid. Norway’s Joergen Graabek Larry Ogunjobi Jersey , who did not compete in Hakuba, is third with 528 points.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin missed a third straight practice on Tuesday while dealing with a knee issue.

Coach Pete Carroll said after practice that Baldwin had a sore knee coming into camp. He practiced the first two days with the team before being held out each of the last three practices.

"We're just going to take our time with it and be patient," Carroll said.

Carroll said the team is going to give Baldwin a couple of weeks off in order to give him the downtime he needs before gradually working him back to full speed. Carroll said the team knows exactly what the issue is, although the coach wouldn't go into detail.

"He's doing some special treatments to make sure we're taking care of him and then we want to bring him back into shape so we can really get him ready for the long haul Blake Bortles Jersey ," Carroll said.

Defensive end Dion Jordan is also going to miss an extended amount of time while he recovers from what Carroll called a "stress issue" in his "other leg." Jordan has been plagued by injuries to his left knee in past seasons, but it appears his right leg is currently the issue.

"He's got a little bit of healing to do so it's going to be a while," Carroll said. "We've just got to wait it out."

Following the departures of Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, the Seahawks have been counting on Jordan to be a presence at defensive end. The four sacks he racked up in five games last season left Seattle excited about what he could bring to the table. However Ka'imi Fairbairn Jersey , he continues to struggle to stay on the field.

"That was a position that we were really hoping he was going to be a factor in," Carroll said.

NOTES: LB Marcus Smith (hamstring) and WR David Moore (hip flexor) were new absences from practice on Tuesday. Neither injury appears to be significant.

Maybe the losing and laughing will finally stop. The Browns aren’t fooling around.

With three stunning trades on the eve of free agency Ravens Robert Griffin III Jersey , Cleveland landed a proven starting quarterback, a game-breaking, three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and a shut-down cornerback.

After 16 straight losses on the field, victory.

Two months after a winless season mercifully ended, new general manager John Dorsey addressed major roster needs Friday by acquiring mobile quarterback Tyrod Taylor in a deal with Buffalo, wide receiver Jarvis Landry from Miami and cornerback Damarious Randall from Green Bay, a person with direct knowledge of the overhaul told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Teams are not permitted to announce any trades until next week.

In exchange, the Browns shipped quarterback DeShone Kizer and swapped late-round picks with the Packers, gave the Dolphins a fourth-round pick this season and a seventh rounder in 2019 and sent the Bills the No. 65 overall pick in this year’s draft.

All in a day’s work for Dorsey, who brought in major talent without giving up any of the team’s five picks in the first two rounds this year.

And the makeover came as the team awaits word from Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas on his future. Thomas, who played more than 10,000 straight snaps before tearing his left triceps last season, is mulling retirement.

The Browns gave him more to think about.

Not long after Dorsey’s trifecta Mark Walton Color Rush Jersey , Thomas tweeted: ”(at)Browns are en fuego!! Here’s to John Dorsey tonight!!

The acquisition of Taylor would seem to change Cleveland’s plans to pursue a veteran quarterback in free agency, which begins Monday when teams are permitted to contact agents. It was assumed the Browns would target Cincinnati’s AJ McCarron, whom they tried to land in a trade last season before the deal was squelched when the teams failed to properly file paperwork to the league.

McCarron wants to start and it’s unlikely he would want to compete with Taylor, who led the Bills to their first postseason appearance since 1999. The dynamic Taylor, who finished with a 23-21 record in three seasons with Buffalo, can affect the game as a passer or runner and he’s the type of quarterback Browns coach Hue Jackson has sought since coming to Cleveland.

However, even with Taylor around, the Browns are still expected to select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft and Dorsey and his staff are in the process of deciding if that’s Southern Cal’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen, Wyoming’s Josh Allen or Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy winner who scares some Cleveland fans because of his Johnny Manziel-like showmanship.

Cleveland’s next starting quarterback will be the team’s 29th since 1999.

But unlike Kizer, who led the NFL with 22 interceptions, went 0-15 and went through numerous growing pains as a rookie starter Authentic Clive Walford Jersey , Taylor will have offensive weapons around him.

Landry is as good as they get.

The 25-year-old, who caught a league-best 112 passes last season, immediately upgrades a Cleveland offense that finished last in scoring and didn’t have any player who threatened a defense until wide receiver Josh Gordon made his late return from an indefinite NFL suspension. With Gordon on the outside, Landry in the slot and Taylor behind center, the Browns have the makings of a potent attack.

Landry signed a $16 million, one-year franchise tag Thursday with Miami, clearing the path for his trade. The Dolphins began shopping him when the parties were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract, which he’s likely to get from the Browns.

A big contract could help calm the sometimes volatile Landry, whose 400 receptions are the most by any player in his first four seasons.

”Y’all better understand (stuff) about to get SERIOUS… ON MY MAMA,” Landry posted on Twitter shortly after news that he was Cleveland bound broke.

The additions of Taylor and Landry certainly must have thrilled new Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who was fired in Pittsburgh following the Steelers‘ divisional-round playoff loss. Haley spent the past six seasons working with Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. All Cleveland needs is a breakaway running back and the Browns could get one with the No. 4 overall pick if Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is still around.

Dorsey also took care of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams by acquiring Randall, a former first-round pick who was inactive for the Packers’ final two games last season with a knee injury.

Randall started 30 games in three years for the Packers Christian Kirk Cardinals Jersey , who drafted him with the No. 30 overall pick in 2015. He had some injuries issues – and a visible spat with the team – in 2017, but finished the year as Green Bay’s best cover cornerback. He was benched in the second half of a Sept. 28 game against Chicago by coach Mike McCarthy, who sent him to the locker room.

Cleveland’s secondary was a mess last season after the club decided to waive veteran cornerback Joe Haden.

Dorsey’s remodeling of the Browns is far from finished. Before the trades, Cleveland was $113 million under the salary cap and the team figures to remain busy next week.

But after an historic losing season, the wins don’t feel as far away.

鈥?If this was Bruce Arians’ final game with the Arizona Cardinals, he went out in perfect fashion with a win in the place he called “our home field.”“Thanks y’all for coming to my house,” Arians cracked on Sunday.Phil Dawson kicked four field goals, the last from 42 yards with 2:21 left, Blair Walsh missed a 48-yard attempt with 32 seconds left and the Cardinals beat the Seattle Seahawks 26-24 on Sunday to close the season.Speculation has swirled in recent days about Arians stepping away at the end of the season. He declined to announce a decision after the victory, but was emotional and spoke with pride about the Cardinals performance and winning a third straight game on the Seahawks home field.“We’ll think about it. I’m not going to drag it out because it’s not fair to people if I do decide,” Arians said.Seattle started the day with playoff hopes that were dashed when Atlanta beat Carolina to earn the final wild-card spot in the NFC. Walsh’s missed field goal was the final 鈥?and poetic 鈥?blow to an underwhelming season by the Seahawks that started with Super Bowl hopes dashed by injuries and inconsistency.Arizona’s game-winning drive was helped by a careless third down roughing penalty on Seattle’s Bobby Wagner when it appeared the Seahawks would get off the field. Arizona (8-8) later converted third-and-2 with a 17-yard pass to D.J. Foster and Dawson connected after hitting earlier in the game from 46, 49 and 53 yards.Wagner was coming around the corner on the pass rush and said he did not see Drew Stanton had already released the pass.“I was trying to turn the corner and I was trying to get out of the way and I hit him,” Wagner said. “No matter what I still shouldn’t have hit him.”Seattle (9-7) got into position for a game-winning attempt from Walsh Authentic Cassius Marsh Jersey , but his kick stayed out to the right and the Seahawks were left to lament missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2011 season. It was also the first time Seattle failed to win 10 games since Russell Wilson’s arrival in 2012.“I had prepared myself for the worst-case scenario, but when it actually came to fruition I didn’t realize how painful it was going to be emotionally,” Seattle’s Doug Baldwin said.Stanton threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Brown on Arizona’s opening drive and Elijhaa Penny had a 4-yard TD run as the Cardinals jumped to a big early lead but stumbled offensively in the second half. Seattle had just 24 yards in the first 30 minutes and Wilson was sacked twice.Wilson threw touchdown passes to Baldwin of 18 and 29 yards in the second half. NEW YORK JETS (5-11)

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: QB Josh McCown; CB Morris Claiborne; C Wesley Johnson Jaire Alexander Jersey , TEs Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Chris Gragg; LBs Demario Davis, Bruce Carter, Julian Stanford, and David Bass; S Terrence Brooks; PK Chandler Catanzaro; DLs Kony Ealy and Ed Stinson; DT Mike Pennel; OLs Jonotthan Harrison, Ben Ijalana and Dakota Dozier.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: WR Quincy Enunwa; S Rontez Miles; OL Brent Qvale; TE Neal Sterling; DL Xavier Cooper.

NEEDS: It's all about finding quarterback, running theme for this franchise for, well, decades. New York will be in Kirk Cousins sweepstakes and has money it would take to land him. But will the former Washington QB want team that has failed to make playoffs for seven straight seasons and underwent massive rebuild last year? Jets have new offensive coordinator in former QBs coach Jeremy Bates, who runs Mike and Kyle Shanahan-style system Cousins learned during his first two seasons in league. If Jets whiff on Cousins, there's good chance McCown will be back to mentor whomever New York takes with its first draft pick at No. 6 overall. Plenty of holes elsewhere, although Jets are interested in re-signing Claiborne Authentic Johnny Townsend Jersey , Seferian-Jenkins and Davis as core players. Help on offensive line, namely at center, proven pass rusher and cornerback will also be high priorities for GM Mike Maccagnan. Running back Matt Forte is retired, so Jets might look for some depth in backfield, as well as on defensive line after releasing disappointing Muhammad Wilkerson.

AVAILABLE SALARY CAP SPACE (approximately): $90 million.

It's a new world for the Arizona Cardinals 鈥?a new head coach, new offense, new coordinators and an old problem.

The team still needs a long-term solution at quarterback.

When the Cardinals hired Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks to replace the retired coach Bruce Arians, there was nary a quarterback on the roster.

General manager Steve Keim addressed that issue short term by signing Sam Bradford to start and Mike Glennon as the backup.

But the Cardinals would love to get a young good one in the draft and nurture him into the job. The problem is, it's very hard to do, especially when Arizona sits at No. 15 in Thursday's draft.

"I don't think it's any secret (how badly Arizona would love a franchise quarterback)," Keim said.

"I think the biggest issue comes with the supply and demand at the position. Where is the franchise quarterback going to be available? If you're willing to trade Myles Garrett Browns Jersey , what's the compensation for it? So, at the end of the day, again, it's no secret, but are you willing to put the franchise in a position to be set back for years if you're not right?"

Trading up to get one of the best quarterbacks is very expensive. Trading down might work. Both require willing partners, no easy find.

If the Cardinals stay at No. 15, the more likely scenario is drafting the player they want there 鈥?a cornerback, maybe 鈥?and picking one of the lesser-rated QBs later.

That would fit their history. Arizona hasn't drafted a quarterback before the fourth round since Matt Leinart slid to them at No. 10 in 2006. That didn't work out too well.

Here are things to consider as the Cardinals make their pick.

QB PURSUIT

The past two successful Cardinals quarterbacks were obtained via trade (Carson Palmer) and signed as a free agent (Hall of Famer Kurt Warner). The two quarterbacks drafted by Arizona since Leinart were Ryan Lindley in the sixth round in 2012 and Logan Thomas in the fourth round in 2014.

So, if Arizona stays at No. 15, it's likely that first-round pick will be a non-QB 鈥?perhaps wide receiver Calvin Ridley or cornerbacks Josh Jackson or Jaire Alexander 鈥?with a second-tier quarterback 鈥?Lamar Jackson? 鈥?selected sometime after that. That is, unless one of the top QBs slip unexpectedly.

The Cardinals have worked out and met with all the best quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield was in Arizona for a visit just last week.

DRAFT TRADE HISTORY

The Cardinals have made draft-day trades in four of Keim's five seasons as general manager. In 2014 http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jalyn-holmes-jersey , Arizona traded its first-round pick (No. 20 overall) to New Orleans for the Saints' first pick (No. 27) and selected safety Deone Bucannon, now an inside linebacker and one of the team's leading tacklers. They got a third-round pick in the deal and used it to select wide receiver John Brown.

Last year Arizona traded up in the second round to get safety Budda Baker, who had an outstanding rookie season.

THIN AT RECEIVER

At wide receiver, the Cardinals have Larry Fitzgerald and not much else. The Browns 鈥?John and Jaron鈥?are gone. Last year's third-round pick Chad Williams hasn't shown much. The team did add veteran Brice Butler in free agency. But expect the position to be addressed more than once this week.

HITS, MISSES AND BARGAINS

The list of Cardinals draft hits is impressive. Go way back to 2004, Arizona chose Fitzgerald third overall, then followed with Karlos Dansby, Darnell Dockett and Antonio Smith 鈥?the core of the 2008 Super Bowl team. Cornerback Patrick Peterson came as the No. 5 overall selection in 2011.

The biggest bargains include running back David Johnson in 2015. Chosen out of Northern Iowa in the third round, he was first-team All-Pro in his second season, leading the NFL in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns.

That draft also included standout outside linebacker Marcus Golden and the No. 1 pick, D.J. Humphries Cheap James Washington Jersey , now locked in at starting left tackle. Another big bargain was safety Tyrann Mathieu. Keim took a chance on the "Honey Badger" in the third round in 2013 and, although hampered by injuries, was a big force on the defense and a model citizen in the organization.

Of course there are misses. The jury is still out on Robert Nkemdiche, the defensive tackle Arizona chose at 29th overall two years ago. Other first-rounders who disappointed were guard Jonathan Cooper in 2013, injury-plagued running back Beanie Wells in 2009, tackle Levi Brown in 2007 and, of course, Leinart.

TORONTO – The Boston Bruins dominated the first two games of their first-round playoff series http://www.ramsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-john-kelly-jersey , outscoring the Toronto Maple Leafs 12-4.

The series will move to Toronto for the next two games with the reeling Maple Leafs left to try to regain their confidence for Game 3 on Monday night at the Air Canada Centre.

“You work all season to build that confidence,” Maple Leafs center Tyler Bozak said Sunday. “Obviously, the first two games didn’t go as planned. You know you want to go in there, get a split for sure and come home with a win, but now we’re just going to have to go to work at home and get both of these games.”

The Bruins’ top line of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand has dominated the Maple Leafs.

Pastrnak had three goals and three assists in the 7-3 victory Saturday night as the Bruins took a 2-0 series lead. The 21-year-old right winger became the youngest player in NHL history with a six-point playoff game.

The six points tied Phil Esposito and Rick Middleton for the Bruins’ franchise playoff record.

Pastrnak has nine points through the Bruins’ first two games, which tied Esposito’s NHL and Bruins records for the most points in the opening two games of a playoff series.

“He’s got that confidence,” said Bergeron, the center on the line. “He wants to be the guy. He wants to make those plays. If we don’t have the puck, he hunts it back. … That’s what amazes me with him.

“There’s a lot of skill players that are skilled when they have the puck and when they don’t have it, they don’t necessarily want it as much as this guy right here. So I think he’s taken a tremendous step this year by the way that he plays away from the puck.”

“Terrific and terrific,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said of the way Boston’s top line played at even strength and on the power play.

“I don’t think I can say any more. I mean, you saw it, right? They’re on (Saturday night). Hard to play against. Really hard to play against, and they play a 200-foot game. You can talk about Bergy and Marchy on the PK too while you’re at it.”

Bergeron and Marchand each had four assists on Saturday.

Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock had a brief answer when asked Sunday what needed to be done against the Bruins’ top line.

“We’re going to play hard against them,” he said. “We’ve got last change.”

The Maple Leafs did have a 33-28 advantage in shots on goal, including a 26-22 edge in shots on goal when the teams were at even strength. Toronto had a 63-39 lead in shot attempts in all situations, 51-30 lead at even strength.

“Any way you look at it, we’re down 0-2 and we haven’t been as good as we’re capable of being,” Babcock said. “When you go right through it from — the way I look at it is, there are so many things we can do better.

“They scored a goal that was offside, we didn’t have the stuff, we didn’t do that. Our penalty kill hasn’t been as good, we’ve left our goalies alone. We’ve had two too-many-men-on-the-ice penalties where a guy is substituting for another guy.

“All those things, when you look at it Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , it hasn’t gone very good. That’s real disappointing. In saying all that, this is our first game at home in front of our crowd. We’re going to be great.”

Babcock removed starting goaltender Frederik Andersen after Boston’s fourth goal in the first period and replaced him with Curtis McElhinney.

Andersen will be in goal Monday.

“Oh yeah, for sure, 100 percent,” Babcock said. “He’s our guy. The puck was going in and it wasn’t going our way, so we got him out. .. we haven’t done a very good job in front of him.

“You’ve got to give your goalie a chance to be good. We haven’t done that. Freddie is our guy and he’ll be back tomorrow.”

Babcock was not certain about the status of center Leo Komarov, who left the game Saturday with a lower-body injury. He was to be examined again Sunday.

“What I’m planning on doing is going without him and then if he shows up, then he shows up,” Babcock said.

The Maple Leafs will be without center Nazem Kadri, who is serving the second game of a three-game suspension for his hit on Boston’s Tommy Wingels during the Bruins’ 5-1 victory in Game 1 on Thursday.

Wingels did not play Saturday because of an undisclosed injury but could return for Game 3. Riley Nash also could return Monday. He has missed seven games with a lacerated ear.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (12-6)

OPEN CAMP: July 26, Ochsner Sports Performance Center, Metairie, Louisiana

LAST YEAR: Helped by infusion of elite young talent, Saints pulled out of three-year rut of mediocrity and won NFC South. They were seconds away from advancing to NFC title game, only to be thwarted by Minnesota receiver Stefon Diggs' winning touchdown as time expired in divisional round. New Orleans received major contributions from running back and Offensive Rookie of Year Alvin Kamara, and cornerback and Defensive Rookie of Year Marshon Lattimore. Several other first-and second-year players filled regular roles as well, and veteran Drew Brees remained one of NFL's top QBs.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: LB Demario Davis, S Kurt Coleman, CB Patrick Robinson, WR Cameron Meredith, Rookie DE Marcus Davenport.

IMPORTANT LOSSES: S Kenny Vaccaro, TE Coby Fleener, WR Willie Snead, G Senio Kelemete, RT Zach Strief Derwin James Jersey Chargers , CB Delvin Breaux.

CAMP NEEDS: Lineup is relatively stable from last-season's playoff run, but New Orleans looking to bolster pass rush by finding someone who can make offenses pay for sending multiple blockers at All-Pro end Cameron Jordan. Saints want Davenport to develop into that player. But he is raw in first season out of UTSA. Saints also want to figure out which running backs can fill in for Mark Ingram during his four-game suspension to open season. Veteran free agents Shane Vereen and Terrence West, along with draft pick Boston Scott and second-year pro Trey Edmunds, are competing for those snaps.

EXPECTATIONS: Saints appear to have gotten stronger and deeper than last season, particularly with additions on defense. Keys to improving are how well new players fit and, as usual, avoiding injuries. If Davenport develops quickly, Saints could be elite. If not, teams with good plan to block Jordan could give New Orleans fits.

CAROLINA PANTHERS (11-6)

OPEN CAMP: July 26, Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina

LAST YEAR: Panthers enjoyed bounce-back season after failing to reach playoffs in 2017. Carolina lost three times to New Orleans, including wild-card playoffs. No deep threat, lengthy injury to TE Greg Olsen and poor pass protection doomed offense. Defense remained one of NFL's best behind high MLB Luke Kuechly.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: Rookie WR D.J. Moore, WR Torrey Smith, WR Jarius Wright, RB C.J. Anderson, RB Kenjon Barner, G Jeremiah Sirles, DT Dontari Poe, rookie CB Donte Jackson, CB Ross Cockrell, S Da'Norris Searcy.

IMPORTANT LOSSES: G Andrew Norwell, RB Jonathan Stewart, DT Star Lotulelei Cheap Josh Allen Jersey , DE Charles Johnson, S Kurt Coleman, CB Daryl Worley, QB Derek Anderson.

CAMP NEEDS: Panthers need to adjust to three new coordinators: Norv Turner (offense), Eric Washington (defense) and Chase Blackburn (special teams). Turner's relationship with QB Cam Newton critical to team's success. Second-year RB Christian McCaffrey is featured back with Jonathan Stewart gone. Team expected to use more two tight end sets, play-action under Turner. Addition of WRs D.J. Moore, Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright should bolster passing game. Washington inherits defense looking to replace four starters (Lotulelei, Johnson, Coleman and Worley). Kuechly, DT Kawann Short, LB Thomas Davis, CB James Bradberry and pass-rushing tandem Julius Peppers and Mario Addison (11 sacks each) all return. GM Marty Hurney thrilled with second-round pick CB Donte Jackson, who'll start.

EXPECTATIONS: Core of team that's been to postseason four of past five seasons remains intact, but aging quickly. Peppers is 38, S Mike Adams 37, Davis 35, and C Ryan Kalil and Olsen are 33. Newton is 29. Plenty of pressure to win now under new owner David Tepper before window closes. Carolina should compete for NFC South title with New Orleans and Atlanta if offense improves.

ATLANTA FALCONS (11-7)

OPEN CAMP: July 27, Falcons practice facility, Flowery Branch, Georgia

LAST YEAR: One year after reaching Super Bowl, Falcons finished third in NFC South and lost to Philadelphia in second round of playoffs. Quarterback Matt Ryan, working under new coordinator Steve Sarkisian, had decline in production from 2016, when team led NFL in scoring. Ryan still signed five-year, $150 million deal in offseason. Good news is young defense Nathan Shepherd Jersey Elite , led by speedy linebackers Deion Jones and De'Vondre Campbell and safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen, allowed 318.4 yards per game, significant drop from 371.2 in 2016.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: G Brandon Fusco, rookie WR Calvin Ridley, TE Logan Paulsen, CB Justin Bethel, rookie DT Deadrin Senat, QB coach Greg Knapp, RB coach Bernie Parmalee.

IMPORTANT LOSSES: DT Dontari Poe, DE Adrian Clayborn, WR Taylor Gabriel, FB Derrick Coleman, TE Levine Toilolo.

CAMP NEEDS: Spotlight will be on WR Julio Jones after team announced it won't renegotiate his current $71.5 million contract. Jones has three years remaining in five-year deal. Jones did not attend minicamp, and training camp holdout could be major distraction to "brotherhood" atmosphere promoted by coach Dan Quinn. Defensive front will be concern following losses of Poe and Clayborn. Senat could have opportunity for immediate playing time, if not starting role. Ridley needs to prove he can handle No. 3 receiver spot behind Jones and Mohamed Sanu and be ready for even bigger role.

EXPECTATIONS: Ryan is 33, Jones is 29, RB Devonta Freeman had two concussions, including one in preseason, and knee injury last season, and RB Tevin Coleman could be free agent after this season. These are all alarm signals as window for current offense is narrowing. While young defense is emerging as team's strength, Atlanta's offense needs to re-emerge in second season with Sarkasian if team can have real hope for second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Addition of Fusco should add more stability to interior offensive line. Competitive NF.

Lonnie Walker IV has simple goals for his rookie season in the NBA.

Walker wants to work hard, do whatever Gregg Popovich asks of him, win and learn about the world outside of basketball.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Miami found the perfect landing spot with San Antonio and its veteran coach. The Spurs took Walker with the 18th overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

”I feel like it’s just God’s message to put me in the right place with the right team,” Walker. ”It’s just time to work, time to prove everyone wrong and I know I’m in the right place at the right time to become something special.”

Walker was projected as a possible lottery selection, which is why the Spurs never worked out the 19-year-old from Reading, Pennsylvania.

”We had him ranked significantly higher Youth Deadrin Senat Jersey ,” San Antonio general manager R.C. Buford said. ”So, to see the opportunity to have Lonnie available in the draft, that was exciting.”

San Antonio’s staff did interview Walker, discovering he was a good fit for a franchise that prides itself on defense and unselfishness. Walker was forced to play point guard when injuries hit Miami. He averaged 11.5 points in his lone season with the Hurricanes while shooting 35 percent on 3-pointers.

”If Coach Popovich needs me to dive on the floor strictly, then I’ll strictly dive on the floor. I’m going to do whatever it takes for us to get that win sooner rather than later, hopefully receive that championship,” he said.

The Spurs drafted Chimeze Metu, a 6-foot-11 center from USC, with the 49th overall pick in the second round. The native of Nigeria averaged 15.7 points and 7.4 rebounds as a junior for the Trojans.

”We added length and athleticism with both of our picks,” Buford said.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of Kawhi Leonard, who reportedly requested a trade, the Spurs opted to draft the athletic Walker and Metu. Walker will have to battle a crowded backcourt that includes Dejounte Murray, Danny Green, Patty Mills DJ Moore Panthers Jersey , Bryn Forbes and Brandon Paul.

”I’m ready to get after it right now,” Walker said. ”If they wanted me to work out and practice right now, I’d do it. I’m ready to compete, and at the end of the of the day, I want to be the best. I’m addicted to being the best. I’m obsessed with being the next great. It’s time to be a dog, and it’s just that simple I’ve got something to prove.”

The Spurs are hoping Walker can team with Murray to form a young, athletic backcourt to help counter the tandems of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in Golden State and Chris Paul and James Harden in Houston.

The Spurs remain optimistic they can persuade Leonard to remain, but the superstar forward reportedly wants to leave the only franchise he has played for. Leonard played in only nine games last season while battling a right leg injury. His absence along with injuries to Tony Parker, Rudy Gay, Pau Gasol, Kyle Anderson led to San Antonio’s worst season in two decades.

The Spurs finished seventh in the Western Conference at 47-35, snapping a streak of 18 consecutive seasons with 50 victories. San Antonio battled until the season’s final week to extend its streak of consecutive playoff appearances to 21 straight.

When Pete Carroll decided to overhaul his coaching staff after last year's flop Youth Saquon Barkley Jersey , it was clear he wanted different voices in the ears of his key players.

Or in the case of the Seahawks defense, a familiar voice coming from a different perspective.

Of all the changes made by the Seahawks since the end of last season, the most significant may end up being the addition of new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, offensive line coach Mike Solari and defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. It was a shake-up that may be just what the team needed.

"Players are taking to the challenge of learning and adapting to stuff, coaches are adapting to players 鈥?there's a lot going on," Carroll said. "But it's been very energetic, very upbeat, not unlike what it should feel like in our program, but maybe even more so than ever, or at least, in the last few years."

The most significant change is on offense, where for the first time in his career Russell Wilson is getting direction from someone other than former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell or former quarterbacks coach Carl Smith. Schottenheimer is both of those in one, something Carroll wanted to streamline the process for Wilson and perhaps hold the quarterback accountable in a different way than in the past.

For Schottenheimer, it's a chance to work with a quarterback he watched from the other sideline during his three years working with the Rams.

"I've admired Russell 鈥?his playmaking ability Cowboys Cheap Jerseys , but yet the ability to throw the football and create plays when things break down. That's hard to teach," Schottenheimer said. "It's hard to teach a guy to run around and make people miss and find an open guy in the end zone. That was something that was really exciting for me is to get here and to work with a guy like that, that has done so well thus far. Just try to coach him up on some new fundamentals and techniques and see what he likes."

While Schottenheimer is completely new to Seattle, Norton and Solari have spent time here before. Solari hasn't been around since 2009. But he brings a solid track record as an offensive line coach 鈥?a position where the Seahawks need help. While Tom Cable was lauded early in his Seattle tenure, the offensive line became a flash point for frustration and often the reason the Seahawks offense struggled in recent years.

"He's very big on attention to detail, very big on technique," offensive tackle Duane Brown said. "Me, going into my 11th year, I feel like there's some things that I need to sharpen up to continue to play at a high level and he's definitely hammering points down for me. I think he's going to be very great for the younger guys."

Norton's return, taking the place of Kris Richard, was exceedingly popular among at least one position group in Seattle's locker room. Before Norton left to become the defensive coordinator in Oakland, he was the Seahawks linebackers coach. So Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and the rest of Seattle's linebackers group was thrilled to get their former position coach back, but now with even more authority over the defense. Ultimately the defensive system is still based around Carroll's philosophy Jessie Bates III Jersey , but Wagner is itching to see what Norton does.

"We went through a lot those first three years and obviously I paid close attention when he left and we stayed in touch," Wagner said. "When I heard he was coming back I had a lot of joy and a lot of excitement because I felt like we had a little bit of unfinished business. It's good to have him back, it's good to have that mind back because he's helped me more than just a player (but) as a person and I'm excited to grow with him."

NOTES: Carroll said Thursday after Seattle wrapped up its final OTA practice that he expects everyone in attendance at next week's mandatory minicamp. That would include S Earl Thomas, DE Frank Clark and CB Byron Maxwell, who have been absent from the voluntary sessions. ... DE Dion Jordan has not participated in OTAs after having a minor follow up procedure done on his knee, Carroll said. The team hopes he's ready for the start of training camp in late July.

The Indianapolis Colts are bringing back offensive lineman Jack Mewhort and cornerback Pierre Desir Trenton Cannon Jersey Elite , continuing their free-agent signing flurry.

Mewhort has started at right guard and right tackle before settling in at left guard. But he has battled injuries since Indianapolis drafted him in the second round in 2014 and finished last season on injured reserve after undergoing knee surgery in mid-October.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Desir made six starts in an injury-riddled secondary last season and finished with 32 tackles and one interception. Cleveland originally took him in the fourth round of the 2014 draft.

Indy has now signed five players this week after signing only one player, defensive end Denico Autry, in the first five days of free agency.

They finished with a winning record of 42-40 Aaron Rodgers Jersey Elite , but their streak of consecutive postseason appearances ended at six. They closed out the season Wednesday night with a 115-100 loss to the Lakers, dropping their last four games in a row.

They kept their playoff hopes alive until the final week of the regular season despite the injuries. Eleven players missed a total of 265 games.

Coach Doc Rivers started an NBA-leading 37 different lineups because of the injuries. The Clippers were forced to dip into the G League for starters, most notably C.J. Williams (who was signed to a multi-year deal) and Tyrone Wallace.

The season began with nine new players on the roster after the offseason departures of Chris Paul, J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford.

But injuries soon befell the newcomers. Point guard Patrick Beverley was lost for the season after right knee surgery; starter Danilo Gallinari missed 60 games with hand and glute issues; backup guard Milos Teodosic was out 36 games with foot problems; and guard Avery Bradley was out 24 games.

Some takeaways from the Clippers’ season:

BIG MAN’S FUTURE: DeAndre Jordan has a player option of $24.1 million for next season or he could explore free agency. He was stripped of his duties as president of basketball operations a year ago, leaving his focus solely on the court. ”I love where we’re at as a franchise,” Rivers said. Rivers trusted younger players to produce and swingman Montrezl Harrell blossomed under his tutelage.

His scoring average was the highest of any reserve in the last 25 years. He received a $24 million, three-year deal in February and was a key reason the Clippers remained competitive despite their injuries. ”My job this summer is getting myself prepared,” he said. ”There’s always room for improvement.”

DRAFT PICKS: Besides their own pick, the Clippers will have Detroit’s pick that they received from trading Blake Griffin in January.

Rivers averaged career highs in points Youth Ronnie Harrison Jersey , assists, 3-point percentage and minutes. Bradley will be an unrestricted free agent. However, injuries blunted his impact. Harrell will be a restricted free agent, which allows the Clippers to match any offer he would receive. He was an energetic force off the bench.
