AUBURN, Ala. Cheap Authentic MLB Jerseys . -- Auburn coach Gus Malzahn confirmed on Wednesdays SEC teleconference that sophomore running back Kerryon Johnson, the teams starter to begin the season, will return Saturday for the game at Ole Miss.Johnson, who injured his ankle on the opening series against Mississippi State earlier this month, missed the rest of that game as well as Auburns most recent game against Arkansas. Prior to the injury, he was the teams leading rusher with 538 yards and six touchdowns. He practiced yesterday, Malzahn said. Hes really close [to 100 percent].Johnson dressed for the Arkansas game and took part in pregame warm-ups, but Auburn didnt need him. Led by backup running back Kamryn Pettway, the Tigers rushed for 543 yards, the most ever by one team in a regular-season SEC game. The good thing is we didnt have to play [Johnson] last week, Malzahn said Tuesday. I thought that was very important moving forward, not just this game but the rest of the year.During Johnsons two-game absence, Pettway carried the ball 66 times for 361 yards and five touchdowns. Despite not playing the first game, he currently ranks among the SEC leaders in rushing yards and leads the league in yards per game (116).?Fellow running backs Stanton Truitt and Kam Martin have also helped fill the void. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Chinas bid for shooting gold came up short on the opening day of the Rio Olympics and was not looking good on Sundays day two after a two-time defending gold medalist failed to qualify.Zhang Mengxue gladly picked up the slack, continuing Chinas dominance in womens 10-meter air pistol.Zhang overcame some early jitters in the finals with some big scores on Sunday, earning Chinas fourth air pistol gold in the past five Games.I remember a coach told me once, the only person who could destroy me was myself, Zhang said through an interpreter. Christian Horner says Formula One owes its drivers and fans simpler rules as controversy continues to linger over the final laps of the Mexican Grand Prix. Wholesale Jerseys Online .Ahead of this weekends Brazilian Grand Prix, Ferrari has asked the FIA to review the post-race penalty handed to Sebastian Vettel in Mexico for moving under braking while defending his position from Daniel Ricciardo. Red Bulls Max Verstappen also incurred a penalty for going off track while defending third from Vettel in the closing stages, though Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg avoided punishment for missing the Turn 2 apex on the opening lap.The controversy from the race prompted FIA race director Charlie Whiting to join Thursdays driver press conference and explain various incidents with the use of TV footage. Horner believes the current rule book needs to be watered down for the good of the spectacle.I think were over regulated in many respects, Horner said. The drivers almost need to take a rule book with them in the car on Sunday, and consult it before they either defend or make an overtaking manoeuvre these days. Theres too much subjectivity and interpretation of different events. So Lewis Hamilton going straight on at the first turn last weekend, comes out half a kilometre up the road, is that an advantage or a disadvantage compared to Max going off and coming back at the same position he came off and with dirty tyres later in the race? Its very difficult for the drivers and the teams, and one can only think the viewers, as to whats permitted and what isnt. Like all things in life, keep it simple, keep it straightforward. I would say less rules, but more clarity in terms of what the rules of engagement are.Nobody wants to see dangerous driving but let the drivers race, let them go wheel to wheel. Everybody is talking about the last five or six laps in Mexico because, lets face it, the rest of the race was pretty boring. The last ten laps were fantastic. Of course theres been a whole bunch of discussion about it since then and thats what Formula One needs to be.Horner believes part of the problem is that F1 circuits have been neutered so severely that stewards are having to make too many decisions when drivers make mistakes.Lets avoid the situation where drivers can cut corners and gain an advantage, put gravel trap there, put something to slow the drivers down. Then that takes the subjectivity away from the stewards having to interpret, is that result different to that one, is that incident different to that?We can see so many examples of that I think for the teams, the drivers, and most importantly the fans, lets come up with something thats straightforward and simple thats easy to understand and interpret. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Message to Russia from race walkings new Olympic champion: Youd be welcomed back, but dope-free. Cheap Air Max 90 Running Shoes .After victory in the longest athletics event at the Rio Games, the mens 50-kilometer race walk, Matej Toth of Slovakia said Russia deserved the ban that kept all its track and field athletes, bar a long jumper who failed to medal, out of the Olympics because of systematic, state-sanctioned doping. But Slovakias first ever medalist of any color in athletics also said he hopes Russia will earn its way back into the sports graces very soon. Russias walkers could be very good without doping, Toth said, The only question is when they will be able to realize it -- that we can do it without doping. Now its up to Russian athletics, its up to race walkers, to change their mind, said Toth, who added the Olympic gold to his 2015 world title. With a late surge, Toth pushed Jared Tallent into the silver-medal spot. The Australians consolation was that at least this time he wasnt second behind a Russian dope cheat, as was the case at the 2012 London Olympics -- a stolen gold medal subsequently redistributed to Tallent nearly four years late.Unwelcome this time, the Russians werent missed on Friday. Race walking was among the most tainted of Russian sports. They deserved this punishment, especially in race walking, there (are) many, many athletes with positive tests, Toth said.He blew a kiss at the camera and picked up a Slovakian flag from a bystander to drape across his shoulders before crossing the line in 3 hours, 40:58 minutes. As in London, Tallent wont get to experience the glory of standing atop the Olympic medal podium. Last time, he was deprived of that pleasure by Russian doper Sergei Kirdyapkin, subsequently disqualified. This time, Tallent said he has no qualms. Were going to have a clean podium again, Tallent said. Very different to London; theres no suspicions this time around. He finished in 3:41:16 for his fourth Olympic medal -- one gold, now two silvers and one bronze -- from three games.Behind them, Hirooki Arai of Japan crossed the line in third place ahead of Evan Dunfee. Dunfee was initially bumped to bronze after Arai was disqualified for elbowing the Canadian when overtaking him. But Arais appeal was successful and the bronze was reinstated.Dunfee said even if he subsequently appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and was successful he would not have been able to receive that medal with a clear conscience.Contact is part of our event, whether written or unwritten and is quite common, and I dont believe that this was malicious or done with intent, Dunfee said in a statement.World record holder Yohann Diniz of France initially undulated to what looked like a commanding lead. But the high school sports coach was then stricken by stomach problems, even keeling over at one point in the heat and scorching sun before continuing, his legs wobbling like cooked spaghetti at times. He persevered to a gritty seventh place. With 10K remaining, Tallent had a narrow lead and looked comfortable. A karmic victory seemed within reach, payback after the bitterness of London and other races where drug cheats have beaten him and following his repeated calls for a ban of Russias dope-riddled walking team. But he faded in the final kilometers and couldnt respond when Toth strode past him, all hips and elbows.I just pushed, Toth said. It was all from my body, from my heart, from my brain, from my head.Tallent said that in his eagerness to make amends for London, he expended too much energy, too soon. He only received his Olympic gold from 2012 this June -- 1,405 days late -- in a ceremony in drizzly rain in front of the Old Treasury Building in Melbourne -- a far cry from being crowned in London.I thought I had it. I probably got a bit too excited. I was feeling really good. I was patient all throughout the race and just when I needed to be a little bit more patient, I went for it.I just ran out of legs with about 4K to go, he added. I wanted to be Olympic champion for more than a few months. Cheap Air Max 90 All Black . Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are about to find out what the NBA playoffs are really about.
After dispatching the Miami Heat in five games in the first round in their first career postseason appearance http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-richard-rodgers-jersey , the Philadelphia 76ers‘ youngsters will open the Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday night in Boston against the Celtics.
All those banners hanging from the Garden rafters.
All that history on the parquet floor.
All that bad blood between the two cities.
A civic rivalry that dates back to the Revolutionary War era came of age on the basketball court with Wilt Chamberlain leading the Philadelphia Warriors, and later the 76ers, against Bill Russell’s Celtics in the 1960s. Larry Bird and Julius Erving picked it up in the 1980s.
Celtics forward Marcus Morris, a Philadelphia native, grew up watching the Allen Iverson-led 76ers that went to the NBA Finals in 2001 but lost to Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker’s Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals the following year.
He’s not expecting any favors from his hometown crowd.
”I’m expecting the same treatment as far as them not even caring that I’m from Philadelphia,” he said after practice on Sunday, a day after the Celtics advanced by eliminating the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 7 of their first-round series. ”I really don’t care either, when I’m competing against them.”
The franchises have met 19 times in the playoffs (though only three times in the past 33 years), with Boston holding a 12-7 edge.
YOUTH IS SERVED
Two years after winning just 10 games, the Process is paying off for the 76ers.
Embiid, the third overall pick in 2014, returned after missing the first two games of the playoffs and averaged 18.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in three wins over Miami.
Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in 2016 before missing all of last season Pernell McPhee Color Rush Jersey , averaged 18.2 points and 10.6 rebounds against the Heat – both improvements over his regular-season numbers.
”They’re super-talented,” Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. ”That’s what happens when you’re in the NBA playoffs. It’s fun.”
Morris said he’s enjoyed watching the hometown Eagles win the Super Bowl, followed by Villanova’s NCAA basketball championship.
”Philly, we had a great year,” the Celtics forward said. ”(Rapper) Meek Mill got out of jail – it’s funny, but it was pretty big for our city. A lot of people really appreciated it. You can tell that feeling when you get there, where it’s coming back. A guy that’s been there my entire life and not really seeing it at its peak. Right now Philly is at its peak with everything, sports, living out there. It’s coming back.”
The Celtics held Milwaukee and star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo to zero fast break points in Game 7 of their first-round series.
They know that transition defense will also be a key against Philadelphia, which was one of the best in the NBA on the break.
”In transition, they just make you pay,” Celtics center Al Horford said. ”They just present a whole different challenge.”
Stevens said guard Jaylen Brown still had some soreness from a hamstring injury he sustained in Game 7 and is doubtful for Game 1 against the Sixers. Tests on Sunday were negative, the coach said.
”It looks like it could be something that allows him to play as the series goes on http://www.billsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-josh-allen-jersey ,” Stevens said.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 draft, Brown averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this season. He said on Saturday he would be back.
”Whatever it takes, I wouldn’t miss this series for the world,” Brown said.
The Celtics are already without stars Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, as well as Daniel Theis.
A ”culture reset” carried the Toronto Raptors to the top of the Eastern Conference for the first time this season.
Next, the Raptors will try to hit reset on their playoff history with the Washington Wizards.
After Cleveland swept the Raptors in the second round last spring, team president Masai Ujiri promised to change the culture surrounding the club.
That meant greater emphasis on ball movement and 3-point shooting, something the Raptors were able to execute immediately. Toronto had 67 games with at least 20 assists, up from 34 the previous year, and averaged 33 shots a game from beyond the arc, third most in the NBA.
”We won 59 games,” All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan said. ”I think that speaks for itself. We know what works for us, what got us here Dorian O'Daniel Color Rush Jersey , and what’s going to take us even further.”
Thanks to the offensive overhaul, this Raptors team is far removed from the one swept in the first round in 2015, a series in which the Wizards won by an average of 14 points.
”That’s old news, it’s years ago,” All-Star guard Kyle Lowry said. ”We’re a different team, different style of play, different people, different egos.”
Raptors coach Dwane Casey said the humiliating sweep helped sow the seeds for Ujiri’s reset.
”That’s one reason why we did change things,” Casey said. ”To give us some other options in the playoffs when teams do try to take away DeMar and Kyle.”
Toronto may have retooled its way to the top of the East, but the Raptors still face a tough first-round test against Washington’s tandem of All-Star guards, John Wall and Bradley Beal.
The speedy Wall averaged 19.4 points and 9.6 assists this season. He would have ranked second in the NBA in assists but was limited to 41 games because of injuries, too few to qualify.
”We’re not going to look at them like they’re the eighth seed because we understand what this team is capable of,” DeRozan said.
Still http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-avonte-maddox-jersey , the Wizards lost five of their final six games, including defeats to Chicago, Atlanta and Orlando, the three worst teams in the East.
Some other things to watch in the series:
GAME 1 BLUES
The Raptors have lost 10 straight opening games in playoff series, six at home. Toronto has played 13 series in franchise history and won one Game 1, beating Philadelphia in the second round in 2001. ”We’ve lost a lot of Game 1s,” said Lowry, who has been part of the past seven defeats. ”We have to play it like a Game 7.”
Toronto and Washington split their four games this season, but Wall missed them all because of injuries. Facing the Wizards with Wall is ”a whole new dynamic,” DeRozan said. Wall returned March 31 after being sidelined for more than two months because of left-knee surgery and was held out on the second night of back-to-backs down the stretch. Wall will have plenty of time to rest in this series, with two days off between Games 1 and 2, two more before Game 3 and, if necessary http://www.bengalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-malik-jefferson-jersey , two days off between Games 4 and 5.
Toronto’s bench averaged 42 points a game this season, tied with San Antonio for fourth most in the NBA. Led by guards Delon Wright and Fred VanVleet, forwards C.J. Miles and Pascal Siakam, and center Jakob Poeltl, Toronto’s bench posted an NBA-best plus-minus of 3.6, easily outpacing second-place Houston (2.3). Casey said he doesn’t want to be bound by traditional basketball thinking in which starters play more and reserves less in the postseason. ”They’re a huge part of who we are,” Casey said. ”We’re going in making sure we try to keep our second unit intact.” VanVleet, however, is questionable for Game 1 because of a bruised right shoulder.
Toronto F Serge Ibaka left Wednesday’s season finale after being elbowed in the mouth but is expected to start Saturday. … Washington F Otto Porter is questionable for Game 1 because of a strained right calf. He sat out Wednesday. … Wizards F Mike Scott (concussion protocol) could miss Game 1 after being hit in the head Wednesday. … Washington G Jodie Meeks will miss the series after being suspended 25 games Friday for a drug violation. … The Wizards added depth Thursday by signing G Ty Lawson. The 30-year-old Lawson played most recently in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The series winner will face Cleveland or Indiana. That likely means a matchup with LeBron, whose team has represented the East in seven straight NBA Finals. James and the Cavs have eliminated Toronto from the playoffs two straight years, including a conference finals defeat in 2016. Toronto is seeded first and had hoped it could steer clear of James & Co. until the conference finals. But Philadelphia’s season-ending 16-game winning streak vaulted the 76ers past Cleveland.
Mitch Marner led the charge on a night full of milestones for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Marner had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 on Wednesday night to set a franchise record with their 46th win.
Toronto also set a high-water mark with its 27th home win. The Philadelphia Flyers held off the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 later Wednesday Kareem Martin Color Rush Jersey , keeping the Leafs from clinching a playoff spot for at least one more night.
”Those things are all nice to get,” Toronto coach Mike Babcock said of the records. ”But we’ve got bigger plans. We’re just moving along and trying to get better. This is a good win, it gives you confidence.
James van Riemsdyk added his 35th goal – and the 200th career – for Toronto, while Auston Matthews and Patrick Marleau added their 30th and 25th goals, respectively.
Frederik Andersen made 30 saves and set a career high with his 36th victory.
Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice, and Evgenii Dadonov also scored for Florida, which got 31 stops from Roberto Luongo, including a couple of big ones early.
Both Huberdeau and Dadonov hit the 25-goal mark.
Florida, meanwhile Authentic Alexander Alexeyev Jersey , remains three points back of New Jersey for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference, with one game in hand.
”These are the games you’re judged on,” Florida coach Bob Boughner said. ”This team’s been pretty consistent for the second half of the season, and tonight for 20 minutes we weren’t.”
Toronto came out flying after having its club-record home winning streak snapped at 13 by last-place Buffalo on Monday. Luongo stopped van Riemsdyk on a breakaway, then robbed Tyler Bozak of what looked like a sure goal with a blocker save.
The Leafs broke through at 3:05, when Marner was quickest to his own rebound off the end boards to get his 21st.
Luongo thwarted another chance by Bozak from the slot later in the period, but could do nothing when Matthews beat him five-hole on what turned into a 4-on-2 rush with the Panthers caught gambling at 9:24.
”Wanted to shoot it high and then at the last moment he was kind of standing up, so at the last second I let up a little bit and was able to sneak it in five-hole,” Matthews said. ”I think he was guessing glove Ozzie Albies Atlanta Braves Jersey , and that’s where I thought I was going.”
Matthews scored 40 goals last season as a rookie but has missed 20 games this season with various injuries. He joins van Riemsdyk and Nazem Kadri (30) in the Leafs’ 30-goal club this season.
Toronto made it 3-0 at 13:55 when Marner wheeled off the boards and found a wide-open Marleau for a tap-in.
Marner has four goals and nine assists in his point streak and 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in his last 20 games.
”It’s been fun,” Marner said. ”This team is feeling confident.”
Marleau, meanwhile, tied Frank Mahovlich for 33rd on the NHL’s career list with the 533rd goal.
Florida cut the deficit to 3-1 at 17:49 of the first when Huberdeau took advantage of Zach Hyman’s miscue in the Leafs zone and zipped in his 24th.
Desperate for points in their playoff chase, the Panthers couldn’t capitalize on a 37-second 5-on-3 early in the second before Andersen robbed Huberdeau with a diving glove save after one of the penalized Leafs had returned.
Huberdeau scored at 15:08 when he picked the top corner on Andersen after Aaron Eklad hit the post midway through the period for Florida, which was 13-3-1 over its previous 17 coming into Wednesday.
In the third, Luongo shot out his pad to rob van Riemsdyk again, but the big forward found his own rebound while getting slammed to the ice at 11:48.
Van Riemsdyk has nine goals and three assists in his last eight games.
Dadonov poked goal past Andersen on a rebound with 1:26 left.
NOTES: Andersen won 35 games with Anaheim in 2014-15. … Tomas Plekanec assisted on Marner’s opener for his first point in 13 games since coming over in a trade with Montreal. … The Leafs won 45 games in 1998-99 http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-kerryon-johnson-jersey , 1999-00 and 2003-04, and secured 44 victories in both 1992-93 and 2002-03, but those seasons all came before the NHL instituted the shootout to break ties. The Packers, Cowboys, Raiders and Bengals will each receive four compensatory picks in April’s draft.
The NFL announced Friday that 32 such selections will be split among 15 teams. Compensatory picks are awarded to teams who lost more or better compensatory free agents than they acquired in the previous year.
For example, Arizona lost defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who became a 2017 All-Pro with Jacksonville. Same thing with Cincinnati losing tackle Andrew Whitworth, who was an All-Pro with the Rams last season.
All compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost. Receiving selections in the third round are the Cardinals, Texans Antonio Callaway Color Rush Jersey , Broncos and Bengals at Nos. 97-100 overall.
In the fourth round, Green Bay, Arizona, the New York Giants, New England and Dallas will have picks, from Nos. 133-137.
Cincinnati has one spot and Dallas and Green Bay each have two spots at the end of the fifth round. All four of Oakland’s choices will be in the sixth round, when Houston and Minnesota have two selections each, and Baltimore, Green Bay Quenton Nelson Color Rush Jersey , Dallas and Kansas City each have one.
At the end of the final round, the Bengals have two picks, while the Chargers, Buccaneers, Cardinals and Falcons each have one.
JJ Redick scored 28 points and the surging Philadelphia 76ers set a franchise record with their 15th consecutive victory Mike Gesicki Color Rush Jersey , holding off the Atlanta Hawks 121-113 Tuesday night to move a step closer to locking up the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers overcame a tough outing for rookie star Ben Simmons, who missed the morning shootaround after coming down with the stomach flu. He still managed to put up 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists before fouling out with 7 seconds remaining.
His teammates helped pick up the slack. Redick hit 6 of 9 from beyond the 3-point arc, while former Atlanta players Ersan Ilyasova and Marco Belinelli burned their old team. Ilyasova scored 26 points, Belinelli added 20 and the duo combined for nine 3-pointers.
Philadelphia went 17 of 37 beyond the arc.
Taurean Prince led the Hawks with 27 points.

Jonas Jerebko scored 14 points, and Rudy Gobert and Ricky Rubio added 13 points apiece for the Jazz. Utah (48-33) won its sixth straight game and went 3-1 in the season series with Golden State. The Jazz can claim the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with a win over Portland on Wednesday night.
Even with a loss to the Blazers, Utah is assured of falling no lower than the No. 5 seed.
Klay Thompson scored 23 points and Kevin Durant added 13 for the Warriors, who finished the season at 58-24. Golden State, the No. 2 seed in the West Authentic Blake McLaughlin Jersey , never led in the game and shot just 35 percent from the field.
WIZARDS 113, CELTICS 101
WASHINGTON (AP) – John Wall surpassed 5,000 career assists and Washington beat Boston despite Jaylen Brown’s 21 first-quarter points to remain in play for the No. 6, No. 7 or No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.
For now, the Wizards are eighth in the East, and potentially more worrisome is this: Starting small forward Otto Porter Jr. left at halftime with a right lower leg strain and did not return.
Wall finished with 29 points and 12 assists as Washington ended its four-game losing streak. The Wizards will wrap up the regular season at Orlando on Wednesday.
That result, along with how Miami fares against Toronto and what Milwaukee does at Philadelphia, will determine where the Wizards, Heat and Bucks all wind up in the standings ahead of the playoffs.
Brown wound up with 27 points.
ROCKETS 105, LAKERS 99
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Chris Paul scored 22 points, James Harden had 21 points and 10 assists, and Houston kept steamrolling toward the playoffs with its 31st victory in 34 games.
Gerald Green scored 16 points as Houston hung on late to avoid its first back-to-back losses since Jan. 6. But in the first half http://www.jaguarsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-tanner-lee-jersey , the Rockets lost backup forward Luc Mbah a Moute to a dislocated right shoulder in a meaningless game.
Andre Ingram scored 19 points with four 3-pointers for the Lakers in the 32-year-old guard’s impressive NBA debut. Los Angeles promoted the 10-year G League veteran from its South Bay affiliate for the final two games of the regular season, and the developmental league’s career leader in 3-pointers hit a 3 on his first NBA shot.
Ingram’s fourth 3-pointer with 51 seconds left trimmed Houston’s lead to 102-99, but the Lakers couldn’t score again. Ingram finished 6 for 8 from the field and 4 for 5 on 3-pointers along with three rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal.
HORNETS 119, PACERS 93
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Dwight Howard finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds, and Frank Kaminsky tied his career high with 24 points to lead Charlotte past Indiana.
Charlotte ended the season with two wins in its last seven games.
The Pacers, who are locked into the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, lost for the second time in three games with three starters sitting out. Darren Collison, T.J. Leaf and Glenn Robinson III all scored 13 points for Indiana.
SUNS 124, MAVERICKS 97
DALLAS (AP) – Rookie Alec Peters scored a career-high 36 points and Phoenix beat Dallas in a reserve-filled finale for two teams headed to the lottery.
The Mavericks (24-58) entered the game tied for the third-worst record in the NBA and stayed that way while sitting eight players. That included star Dirk Nowitzki, whose 20th season ended last week when he had ankle surgery.
Atlanta finished with the same record after losing at home to Philadelphia 121-113. Orlando can join the Mavericks and Hawks with a loss at home to Washington on Wednesday.
Phoenix (21-61), which had already clinched the worst record and best lottery odds for the No. 1 pick in the draft in June http://www.brownsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-denzel-ward-jersey , also didn’t dress eight players. The Suns won for the second time in 19 games to wrap up their third straight season with at least 58 losses.
The stress of stopping the puck with a game on the line is no sweat compared to what young goaltenders deal with waiting to be taken in the NHL draft.
Even the best goaltending prospects usually have to wait through the first round and then some before their names are called. Top-rated Olivier Rodrigue went through that this weekend.
”No expectation for the draft,” Rodrigue said. ”Totally a mystery. We all know it’s difficult for a goalie to be selected early.”
It’s nearly impossible now as teams wait until the later rounds to shore up the most important position in the sport. Unlike quarterbacks and pitchers who are often top-10 picks in football and baseball, goaltenders in hockey are so difficult to project that only six have gone in the first round over the past decade – including none this year.
No goaltender has been taken in the top 10 since Carey Price went fifth to Montreal in 2005. In the years since, the philosophy has shifted drastically from trying to hit on an elite goaltender early in the draft to hoping for the best in rounds 2 through 7 like 23 different teams did on Saturday.
”They’re so up and down and very few of them dominate,” Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said. ”It’s hard. There are very few guys that are first-rounders that you can say at 18 are going to be Price or that type of goalie right off the bat. It doesn’t happen very often.”
The first goalie off the board at this year’s draft was Olof Lindbom 39th to the Rangers. Armed with a successful Swedish goalie in 36-year-old Henrik Lundqvist, New York GM Jeff Gorton called taking Lindbom ”an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”
But as Rodrigue knows, teams pass on goalies all the time. His father, Sylvaine, is a goaltending instructor for Edmonton, which traded up to take him 62nd at the end of the second round.
Rodrigue was the second of 39 goalies taken in the 2018 draft that followed the recent pattern of the position being in demand but not early. Longtime Los Angeles Kings director of amateur scouting Mark Yanetti believes there haven’t been many generational goalies like Price and Marc-Andre Fleury recently but also points to the long development curve as a reason why they’re so rarely first-round picks.
”With the rare, rare, rare exception of like a Carey Price Ryan McMahon Colorado Rockies Jersey , Fleury, it takes a minimum of probably four to six years for a goalie to develop,” Yanetti said. ”Drafting a goalie very, very high with the success that they tend to have or don’t have, -I think it’s right around 50 percent (odds of) becoming a regular NHL goaltender. I’m not even talking about elite.”
For every Price Fleury and Roberto Luongo who have strong NHL careers, there’s a laundry list of top-10 goalies who never panned out. A year after Nashville missed on Brian Finley sixth overall in 1999, Calgary whiffed on Brent Krahn ninth in 2000, and while Al Montoya had a respectable career as a backup, he never lived up to going No. 6 to the Rangers in 2004.
Montoya never played a game for New York, which is a common tale for highly touted goaltending prospects.
”Most goalies around the league, with the exception of maybe three or four, they don’t really hit their stride until they’re probably 25 years old Jerome Baker Color Rush Jersey ,” Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said. ”That’s seven years down the road and most of those guys have moved on to another organization. Not as many of them make it with the team that drafted them just because of the life cycle.”
That uncertain life cycle makes front offices approach goaltender entirely differently than forwards and defensemen. Los Angeles has signed Martin Jones and Cal Petersen as free agents long after they went undrafted. Philadelphia did the same with Sergei Bobrovsky, who they gave up on early and traded him to Columbus, where he won the Vezina Trophy twice.
”It’s almost like adding a first- or second-round pick to your roster for nothing,” Yanetti said of signing older goalie prospects. ”They’re much closer to a finished product and you’re getting a first- or second-round asset without using a first or second-round draft pick.”
GMs like Tallon who aren’t goaltenders find evaluating the position harder and lean on their goalie coaches. To show just how inexact a science drafting a goalie is, nine went before the Washington Capitals took Braden Holtby in the fourth round of the 2008 draft, and he won the Vezina in 2016 before helping them win the Stanley Cup this season.
In the past decade, teams hardly even try anymore and often stockpile goalies rather than rolling the dice on taking them with high picks.
”People are understanding that the timeline of a goalie’s development path is longer and as the development path gets longer, I think inherently there’s more risk,” Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka said. ”I think teams are managing risk and they’re understanding that because of the length of that timeline that goalies move and sometimes are on their second or third team before they ultimately become the goalie that he probably expected when you drafted him that high.”
The Chicago White Sox will go for a series win against the Cleveland Indians when the teams square off Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field on Chicago’s South Side.
Chicago (24-42) has endured a bumpy start to the season but has won two of the first three in its four-game series against the Indians. The White Sox have gone 8-5 in June thanks in large part to better starting pitching.
Meanwhile http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-rick-leonard-jersey , Cleveland (35-31) hopes to escape the Windy City with a series split. The Indians remain atop the American League Central standings but have posted an underwhelming 5-6 record in June.
The getaway-day contest will represent the second start of the season for White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon (0-1, 3.60 ERA), who spent two-plus months on the disabled list as he recovered from shoulder surgery.
The White Sox’s 2014 first-round pick (No. 3 overall) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings during his season debut Saturday against the Boston Red Sox. He walked two and struck out seven.
Teammates were impressed with Rodon’s assortment of pitches after a long layoff.
“Carlos has that killer (look in his eye) whenever he starts getting a little geeked up, when he’s about to throw some stuff that is going to be unhittable,” White Sox catcher Kevan Smith told The Athletic. “Even whenever we were catching in Triple-A, he had the same things kind of happen. He would pitch out of these jams Tyquan Lewis Color Rush Jersey , and that’s what I’m saying. …
“He has a fastball that … just kind of control it and let it do its work, it’s an impressive pitch.”
In 10 career appearances (nine starts) against the Indians, Rodon is 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA. He has walked 19 and struck out 64 in 61 2/3 innings. The only other team he has beaten four times is the Minnesota Twins.
For the visitors, Indians right-hander Mike Clevinger (4-2, 3.31 ERA) will take the mound for his 14th start of the season. The 27-year-old needs one more win for No. 20 in the big leagues.
Clevinger has pitched six-plus innings in nine of his past 10 outings. In nine of his 13 starts this year, he has given up three earned runs or fewer.
The White Sox have had sporadic success against Clevinger Ian Thomas Color Rush Jersey , who is 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA against that team in five career appearances (three starts). Clevinger has walked nine and fanned 20 in 21 innings versus Chicago.
Chicago is 12-20 at home this season; Cleveland is 15-20 on the road.
The Indians are still without left-hander Andrew Miller out of the bullpen as he recovers from inflammation in his right knee. Miller threw a bullpen session Wednesday and could face hitters in live batting practice or in a simulated game as part of the next step in his rehabilitation.
“He did well, he did real well, probably his best one yet,” Indians manager Terry Francona told mlb.com. “When we get back home, we’ll see if he’s ready to face hitters.
“How he’s bouncing back is still the biggest challenge, but he’s building up http://www.jaguarsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-logan-cooke-jersey , he’s doing a good job, so we’re making progress, which is good. I’d much rather have that happen than the other way.”
Basketball Australia says world governing body FIBA will enter ”new territory” when it investigates a bench-clearing brawl during Australia’s World Cup qualifying match against the Philippines Monday.
It would not rule out criminal charges being laid.
Thirteen players, including four Australians, were ejected for their part in the brawl which took place in the third quarter of the match at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria. The match was won 79-48 by Australia.
Fighting erupted with four minutes left in the quarter when Australia’s Chris Goulding was knocked to the ground by an opponent, with Goulding’s teammate Daniel Kickert reacting by flooring a Philippines player with an elbow.
Philippines players and officials poured onto the court and a wild melee began. Australia’s Sudan-born NBA star Thon Maker was seen to aim several flying kicks at Philippines players and Goulding was trapped on the floor under a pile of players as punches were thrown and chairs were tossed into the arena by fans.
The Australian players were later helped to leave the arena Lamar Jackson Jersey Elite , board a bus and return to their hotel by representatives of the Australian embassy.
Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore said players were bruised and shaken but not seriously hurt. He said his organization would fully co-operate with any FIBA investigation or tribunal but he would not speculate on what sanctions might be imposed.
”I can’t speculate on what the sanctions will be because we’re actually in new territory in this regard,” Moore said. ”We want to work with FIBA on the tribunal and get that outcome and we’ll assess our outcomes from there.
”We have briefed our lawyers on that, as you would expect us to do.”
Moore said Kickert’s retaliation after the foul on Goulding was an ”unsavory act.”
”Whilst we accept our responsibility for our role in last night’s incident, what we don’t accept is the action whereby fans and officials actually get involved in the fray,” Moore said. ”We find that absolutely unacceptable.”
Moore said players feared for their safety in the ”tinderbox” atmosphere inside the stadium.
”You will have seen in the vision our athletes and coaches actually stayed on the court for a considerable amount of time because that was deemed to be the safest place for our players and coaches,” he said. ”That’s a fairly compelling set of circumstances; are we actually going to get out of here unscathed?
”Physically our players are fine. They’re bruised and battered… (but) all the players are shaken up and Chris in particular.”
Milwaukee Bucks center Maker has defended his role in the incident Harold Landry Color Rush Jersey , saying in a statement on Twitter that he was attempting to defend his teammates.
”I am deeply disappointed in the actions displayed during yesterday’s game against the Philippines,” Maker said. ”Being from a war-torn country, basketball for me has always been a means to bring people together.
”I feel a great responsibility as an NBA player to carry myself in a way that promotes peace and unity.
”My hope is that this experience provides a springboard for discussion regarding the security surrounding these games.”
On the eve of free agency http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-d.j.-fluker-jersey , John Tavares is leaving the NHL guessing about his destination.
With less than 12 hours until the market opens, the elite center had not chosen between six suitors, with the San Jose Sharks, hometown Toronto Maple Leafs and incumbent New York Islanders considered the most likely options. Returning to the Islanders looks less likely now after the midnight deadline passed for Tavares to get an eight-year contract from his current team.
The Tavares sweepstakes dragging on into Sunday seems to favor San Jose and Toronto, either of which could sign the 27-year-old to a seven-year deal worth $70 million or more. He met this week with the Sharks, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning, and his decision could drastically affect the plans of those teams and others.
”I think other teams have admitted, we would have to make moves (to clear salary-cap space),” Bruins general manager Don Sweeny told reporters in Boston on Friday. ”Pretty confident we’d be able to do that.”
As hockey waited for the Tavares watch to end Martin Kaut Blackhawks Jersey , several teams made moves Saturday ahead of the frenzy.
The Sharks agreed to a $64 million, eight-year extension with forward Logan Couture, according to a person familiar with the contract who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been announced. It can’t become official until after noon Sunday because it doesn’t begin until the 2019-20 season – the same as long-term deals the Los Angeles Kings have with Drew Doughty and Arizona Coyotes have with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Detroit got its own defenseman under contract for the next two seasons by agreeing to deal with Mike Green that pays him $5,375,000 annually. Signing Green could be just the start of the action for the Red Wings, who have been linked to unrestricted free agent goaltender Jonathan Bernier and winger Thomas Vanek.
New Jersey also shored up its goaltending situation by re-signing Eddie Lack to a $650,000, one-year deal. The Devils also have Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid, who split time last season and in the playoffs.
A person with direct knowledge of discussions said the Buffalo Sabres are expected to sign goalie Carter Hutton, who had been the St. Louis Blues’ backup to Jake Allen. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because agreements cannot be announced until the signing period begins.
Hutton and others seem to already be ticketed for certain places, but many big-name players are still up for grabs.
Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk, who tied Tavares with 36 goals last season Martavis Bryant Color Rush Jersey , has been drawing significant interest and, at 29, could easily command a seven-year contract at a substantial raise over his previous $4.25 million salary. The Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights have cap space but might lose wingers David Perron and James Neal, who combined for 110 points last season.
The Winnipeg Jets are doing their best to try to bring back center Paul Stastny after he was so instrumental in their playoff run. They cleared about $5.5 million in cap space by trading goaltender Steve Mason and Finnish forward Joel Armia to Montreal on Saturday but may still need more room to bring back the 32-year-old.
The Canadiens are set to buy out Mason, putting him on unconditional waivers as the Minnesota Wild did with forward Tyler Ennis to clear cap space.
Stastny fit in seamlessly after Winnipeg acquired him from St. Louis at the trade deadline but also might be better served waiting to see what Tavares does. Teams looking for a center who don’t land Tavares will look to Stastny and Toronto’s Tyler Bozak and could look into a trade for Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly, who is signed for the next five years and owed a $7.5 million bonus Sunday.
AP Sports Writer Josh Dubow in San Jose, California, contributed to this report.
Edwin Jackson figures he’ll enjoy pitching for as long as teams are willing to put him on the mound.
Jackson tied a record Monday when he played for his 13th major league club, allowing a run in six innings for the Oakland Athletics in their 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Called up from Triple-A for his first big league appearance of 2018, Jackson matched the mark for most teams set by former reliever Octavio Dotel.
”It’s always good to be wanted,” Jackson said. ”When I can’t find a team that wants to bring me in, then I guess it’ll be time to sit it down. But until then Kyzir White Color Rush Jersey , I like to come out. I like to compete, to have fun. I feel like I still have something in me and that I can bring value to a team.”
Jed Lowrie hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the top of the ninth. The A’s trailed 4-1 after Detroit’s Nicholas Castellanos hit a three-run homer in the seventh, but Oakland scored three in the eighth off Joe Jimenez to tie it. Then Lowrie connected for his 12th home run of the year, barely fair down the line in right field off a cutter from Shane Greene (2-4).
Lou Trivino (6-1) got the win in relief, and Blake Treinen pitched the ninth for his 18th save in 20 chances. The A’s have won seven of nine.
Jordan Zimmermann pitched five scoreless innings for the Tigers, but that wasn’t enough to prevent Detroit’s sixth straight loss.
”I felt good,” Zimmermann said. ”I threw a lot of sliders today, and they were pretty good.”
Stephen Piscotty and Jonathan Lucroy had three hits apiece for Oakland. Piscotty hit a solo homer in the seventh to tie it at 1. The A’s have homered in a record 26 consecutive road games.
The 34-year-old Jackson allowed six hits and struck out seven with no walks. It was his first start since Sept. 28, when he was with Washington.
”For most guys, it’s tough to go to a new team in the middle of a season. There can be some nerves and some uncomfortableness being with a new team,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. ”This is probably the last guy that you worry about that, being that it’s his 13th team. He seemed real comfortable when he came out of the bullpen Cheap Lamar Jackson Jersey , seemed really comfortable when he took the mound. That has a lot to do with experience.”
Down by three in the eighth, Oakland chipped away against Jimenez. Marcus Semien hit a sacrifice fly, and Lucroy followed with an RBI single. Then Franklin Barreto tied it with a run-scoring double.
John Hicks hit an RBI single for Detroit in the fourth to open the scoring.
Oakland center fielder Dustin Fowler made a diving catch with a runner on second to end the seventh.
Jackson made his big league debut in 2003 with the Dodgers. He’s also pitched for the Rays, Tigers, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Cardinals, Nationals, Cubs, Braves, Marlins, Padres and Orioles. Detroit traded him in 2009 as part of the three-team deal with Arizona and the New York Yankees that brought Max Scherzer to the Tigers.
”I’ve been playing against him forever http://www.broncosauthorizedshops.com/authentic-isaac-yiadom-jersey , so I was pretty familiar with his stuff, just from a hitting standpoint,” said Lucroy, Oakland’s catcher. ”Look, this guy’s an innings eater. He throws strikes. He fills the zone up, attacks guys. Veteran pitcher who knows exactly what he’s doing out there.”
Monday marked eight years since Jackson threw a no-hitter for Arizona at Tampa Bay.
Before the game, the Tigers held a ceremony for a group of people being sworn in as American citizens. Included were Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder Leonys Martin, both natives of Cuba.
”It’s amazing,” Iglesias said before the game. ”Become an American citizen on a ballpark, and with full uniform and everything. It’s a blessing.”
Athletics: Oakland reinstated LHP Ryan Buchter from the disabled list. He’d been on the DL since April 26 with a strained left shoulder. The A’s also purchased Jackson’s contract from Triple-A Nashville, designated RHP Liam Hendriks for assignment and optioned OF Nick Martini to Nashville.
Detroit sends LHP Blaine Hardy (3-1) to the mound Tuesday night against Oakland RHP Frankie Montas (4-1).
Klay Thompson sat on the floor in the middle of his teammates and pointed to his ”2018 NBA FINALS” hat during a locker-room photo.
An important face was missing from the moment: Andre Iguodala.
In a postseason defined by uncertainty for the defending champions Youth Saquon Barkley Jersey , Golden State could be without one of its top defenders as the Warriors chase a repeat title – taking on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a fourth straight NBA Finals matchup.
Iguodala’s status for Game 1 on Thursday night is a question as he recovers from a bone bruise in his left knee, which caused him to miss the final four games of the Western Conference finals against Houston. Cleveland’s Kevin Love is in concussion protocol, so he might not be ready, either.
Coach Steve Kerr has said Iguodala, the 2015 Finals MVP, will return when he can run without pain. The Warriors sure could use his presence against King James, who is making an eighth straight Finals appearance.
”We’re still without Andre Baker Mayfield Jersey Elite , which is a big blow for us,” Kerr said before Monday’s Game 7 at Houston. ”In a different way. He’s not a scorer for us as Chris (Paul) is for Houston, but a huge component. So you go through the playoffs and things happen, and you’ve got to be able to bounce back no matter what and keep going.”
Last month, Kerr became concerned his team’s defense wouldn’t return to its top form after Golden State struggled late in the regular season and even endured a particularly poor stretch in which the Warriors dropped seven of 10 games.
Yet here they are in a familiar spring spot as June approaches.
Once the buzzer sounded and the 101-92 Game 7 win over Houston was official, the Warriors could exhale. It hasn’t been pretty for much of these playoffs, a far cry from that remarkable Cheap Sam Darnold Jersey , record-breaking 16-1 romp through last year’s postseason.
There is clearly some relief to be back where this All-Star group expected to be all along.
Stephen Curry kept the game ball tucked under his left arm long after Monday’s game, toddler daughter Ryan held in his right arm.
Kevin Durant hugged general manager Bob Myers, while always-animated Nick Young beamed wearing his Finals hat and ”Champions of the West” T-shirt, then enjoyed hoisting the shiny trophy.
Draymond Green smooched his 1-year-old son, Draymond Jr.
Back home, fireworks went off in the East Bay as everyone anticipates another battle with King James.
”There’s a lot of just built-up anxiety, I guess Christian Kirk Color Rush Jersey , about this moment. When you walk off the court with a win and get this fancy hat, it’s a good feeling,” Curry said. ”We had to work for it, and you’ve got to appreciate the moment. Somebody asked, `It’s four years in a row getting to The Finals, do you appreciate it?’ Yes, because it’s really hard. So all the smiles and embraces you have with your teammates http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-alex-mcgough-jersey , your coaches, it’s well deserved.”
Golden State struggled to hit shots for stretches. The stars went through funks and the Warriors had to play catch up time and again – including from double-digit deficits in the final two games to beat James Harden and the 65-win Rockets on their home court after settling for the second seed in the West.
James has willed his Cavs this far, saying, ”I don’t know how I can compare it to other seasons because I can only think about this one in the present.”
”Definitely a different team but we know everything goes and stops with LeBron James with them,” Green said.
The NFL divisional playoffs kick off Saturday with a doubleheader starting in Philadelphia where the Eagles (13-3) are the first No. 1 seed to enter their first postseason game as an underdog against the Atlanta Falcons.
The sixth-seeded Falcons (11-6) beat the Los Angeles Rams 26-13 in a wild-card game last week, slightly erasing the sting of their Super Bowl loss to New England. Atlanta is a 3-point favorite because Philadelphia is missing MVP candidate Carson Wentz. Nick Foles makes his fourth start.
The nightcap features the AFC’s top seed, the New England Patriots (13-3) http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-orlando-brown-jr.-jersey , and the No. 5 seed Tennessee Titans (10-7) at Foxborough, Massachusetts.
If Philadelphia wins, it will host the New Orleans-Minnesota winner next Sunday. If Atlanta wins, it will play the NFC championship game on the road at the Saints or Vikings.
The Titans-Patriots winner will play the Jaguars-Steelers winner next Sunday in the AFC title game.
The Minnesota Vikings have signed wide receiver Kendall Wright Mike Marjama Seattle Mariners Jersey , who led the Chicago Bears in receptions and yards last season.
The Vikings announced the addition Friday, putting Wright in the mix behind standouts Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Laquon Treadwell, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2016, is the only other wide receiver on the roster with significant NFL playing time on his resume. Treadwell had 20 catches for 200 yards in 2017.
Wright was a first-round draft pick by Tennessee in 2012 and produced a career-best 94 catches for 1,079 yards in 2013. He spent five years with the Titans. In his lone season with the Bears, he finished with 59 receptions for 614 yards. Wright has 19 career touchdowns.
Nick Martini picked a perfect time – and place – for his first major league hit.
Pinch hitting, Martini drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning with full-count single up the middle and the Oakland Athletics came back from an early five-run deficit to edge the Chicago White Sox 7-6 on Saturday.
Martini http://www.dolphinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mike-gesicki-jersey , recalled from Triple-A before the game, battled through the eight-pitch at-bat and lined his hit off Juan Minaya (0-2) with two outs to center to score Stephen Piscotty from second. Piscotty reached on a double when right fielder Avisail Garcia lost his routine fly in the sun.
Martini is from Crystal Lake, Illinois, a Chicago suburb about 45 miles northwest of Guaranteed Rate Field. Although the 27-year-old outfielder says he followed the crosstown Cubs as a kid, coming through on the South Side suited him just fine.
”It’s hard to describe,” said Martini who played in front of a contingent of family members and friends. ”To get it here in my backyard was definitely special and I was super excited.”
Martini was called up by the A’s for three games earlier this month, but the 27-year-old outfielder was hitless in nine at-bats.
Piscotty launched a two-run drive and Matt Olson hit a solo shot as the Athletics homered in their 24th consecutive road game Authentic Adam Boqvist Jersey , tying a modern day record set by Baltimore in 1996. Olson’s homer was his 17th and third in four games.
”Who knows why, but we’re definitely in a groove right now,” Piscotty said. ”I felt like the way our offense has been, (coming back) wasn’t too daunting a task.”
Lou Trivino (5-1), the A’s fourth reliever, pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out four. Blake Treinen got the last five outs for his 17th save as Oakland hung on for its sixth victory in seven games despite committing two errors in the ninth.
Tim Anderson hit his 13th homer, a three-run shot on his 25th birthday Keke Coutee Color Rush Jersey , that capped Chicago’s five-run first inning burst. The White Sox have lost nine of 10.
Both starters exited early with injuries.
Oakland’s Daniel Mengden was roughed up for the fourth straight outing, allowing five runs and five hits before a sprained right foot forced him to leave after two innings. The right-hander, who is 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA over 16 1/3 innings in June, said the foot has bothered him over his past few starts.
Although he appeared to be cruising with a 5-2 lead, White Sox starter Dylan Covey was pulled due to right hip soreness with no outs in the fifth when Oakland scored three times to tie it at 5. Manager Rick Renteria called the move precautionary and said the team would know more on Sunday.
Coved said his hip ”felt funny” as he left the field after four innings.
”I could feel it in my (fifth inning) warmups,” Covey said ”My drag leg was not really painful, but nagging me. I was bracing every pitch for something. It was affecting the quality of my pitches.”
Covey http://www.steelersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-james-washington-jersey , who was charged with four runs, left after walking Matt Joyce to start the inning and reaching a 2-1 count on Jonathan Lucroy. Chris Volstad completed the walk to Lucroy, then gave up a single to Franklin Barreto, a sacrifice fly to Dustin Fowler and Jed Lowrie’s two-run double.
Piscotty’s homer in the second made it 5-2. After Oakland tied it, Olson’s homer leading off the sixth put the A’s ahead 6-5.
Yoan Moncada grounded into a force at second with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth to push in a run to tie it at 6.
Martini was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, and right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt and left-hander Danny Coulombe were optioned.
Athletics: Manager Bob Melvin said LHP Ryan Buchter (strained left shoulder) will be activated on Monday at Detroit. . Melvin had no timetable or plan for Mengden, but said the right-hander’s current injury isn’t related to previous surgery.
White Sox: RHP Miguel Gonzalez (right rotator cuff inflammation) is expected to throw three innings in a rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Charlotte. Gonzalez http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-saquon-barkley-jersey , who was 0-3 with a 12.41 in three starts in April, said he expects to make three or four starts on the rehab assignment. . Renteria said OF Nicky Delmonico (broken finger on right hand) is getting ready to start hitting off a tee.
Athletics RHP Paul Blackburn (1-1, 8.03) faces White Sox LHP Carlos Rodon (0-2, 4.41) on Sunday in the series finale. Both Blackburn and Rodon will make their fourth starts since returning from the DL.
A look at what’s happening around the majors today:
HOT AS THE WEATHER
Evan Gattis and the World Series champion Astros have the longest active winning streak in the majors. They go for their 10th straight victory when they play at Kansas City http://www.patriotsauthorizedshop.com/authentic-jason-mccourty-jersey , where temperatures are expected to approach triple digits. Houston left-hander Dallas Keuchel (3-8) pitches against Danny Duffy (3-6). Keuchel, the 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner, has allowed 13 runs over 11 innings in two June starts – raising his ERA from 3.65 to 4.45. The Royals have lost four in a row and 10 of 11.
With a franchise-record 15 players on the disabled list, the Angels try for a second consecutive victory in Oakland. Los Angeles added four more players to the DL on Friday: infielder Zack Cozart (partially dislocated right shoulder), right-hander Jim Johnson (lower back strain), right-hander Garrett Richards (strained left hamstring) and right-hander Nick Tropeano (right shoulder inflammation). Only 12 players from the opening day roster were active Friday.
Paul Goldschmidt tries to keep up his torrid pace at the plate when the Diamondbacks host the slumping Mets. Goldschmidt entered this month batting a paltry .209 after slogging his way through May, when he had only 14 hits in 97 at-bats (.144). The All-Star slugger has returned to form in June with seven homers, 15 RBIs and 17 runs. In 14 games, he’s raised his batting average 56 points to .265. He homered for the second consecutive night Friday, finishing with three hits and two RBIs in a 7-3 victory. He has nine homers and 21 RBIs in his past 20 games. Meanwhile, the NL West leaders have won seven of eight and 11 of 14. The freefalling Mets have dropped four straight http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-brian-o_neill-jersey , 12 of 13 and 19 of 23.
Washington ace Max Scherzer has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards. The right-hander appears well on his way to a third straight – and fourth Cy Young overall – going into his start at Toronto. Scherzer (10-2, 2.00 ERA) leads the majors with 142 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings, and he’s allowed more than five hits in a game only twice in 13 starts this season.
Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner takes the mound in Los Angeles against the rival Dodgers. Bumgarner is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in two starts this season following a two-month stay on the disabled list. He allowed six hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings last time out vs. Miami. The 2014 World Series MVP is 15-9 with a 2.53 ERA in 29 career outings vs. the Dodgers.
Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright (2-0, 1.21 ERA) brings the longest current shutout streak in the majors into his start at Seattle. Wright has thrown 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, including back-to-back starts when he went seven innings in a win against Detroit and 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision at Baltimore. Wade Leblanc (7-3, 4.26) goes for the surprising Mariners, who are 45-25.
Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has essentially been benched in the wake of a season-long slump. Davis is batting .150 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 86 strikeouts in 52 games. Making matters worse, he’s in the third year of a $161 million, seven-year contract. Davis hasn’t played since Monday, and there’s no telling when he will be back in the lineup. ”Chris is continuing with some things that he’s working on Ravens Lamar Jackson Jersey ,” manager Buck Showalter said. ”When they come to me and say they think he’s ready to get back in the lineup, we’ll put him back in there. But it’s nothing imminent.” Baltimore has lost eight straight, its longest skid since July 2011. The Orioles have dropped 15 of 17 overall and 10 straight at home, scoring only 14 runs.
The Seattle Mariners have made a habit this year of mounting comebacks, winning by one run and prevailing in extra innings.
They combined all three of those traits in a rousing, drama-filled matchup with the Baltimore Orioles.
Denard Span hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the 11th inning after Kyle Seager delivered a two-run homer in the ninth, and the Mariners pulled out an 8-7 victory Wednesday night.
Playing without injured Nelson Cruz for a second straight game, Seattle got a home run from Ryon Healy and collected 14 hits while improving its record in extra innings to 7-0.
It was the Mariners’ major league-leading 25th one-run victory, and it marked the 16th comeback win in which they have taken the lead in the seventh inning or later.
In this one, Seattle gave up a deflating three-run homer to Chris Davis in the eighth inning before rallying.
”We’ve had some great wins this year. We’ve done a lot of this at home,” manager Scott Servais said. ”To do this on the road http://www.cardinalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-josh-rosen-jersey , after giving up the big home run in the eighth inning, it’s how we’re wired. We play all 27 outs, guys don’t quit. They figure out and find a way.”
The Mariners came to town having lost six of seven. Now, after winning three straight over the lowly Orioles, they can complete the first four-game road sweep of Baltimore in franchise history.
Seattle has never swept a two-game series in Baltimore, and its last three-game sweep of the Orioles on the road was in 2007.
Cruz has been bothered by a sore lower back, but the Mariners have done just fine without him.
Jean Segura led off the 11th with a double against Mychal Givens (0-5), and Span drove in the go-ahead run with a deep fly to center off Donnie Hart.
Chasen Bradford (5-0) worked the 10th and Edwin Diaz got three outs for his major league-leading 30th save, a club record before the All-Star break. He has earned the save in each game of this series.
”We have stepped up and started playing great baseball,” Diaz said. ”Our defense, hitting and pitching are all doing great. We’re in a good moment right now.”
The Orioles trailed 5-4 in the eighth inning before Davis interrupted his season-long slump with a shot off Alex Colome. The drive Geron Christian Color Rush Jersey , on a 3-1 pitch, soared onto Eutaw Street far beyond the right-field wall.
Davis entered the game with a .147 batting average, and on Friday returned from an eight-game hiatus in which he worked to get his swing back. This was his second home run since coming back, and it produced a rare feel-good moment for a struggling team and its belabored slugger.
Then, in the Seattle ninth, Mitch Haniger singled off Zach Britton and Seager delivered his 15th home run and second in two nights.
Britton, who has pitched in only eight games this season after returning from surgery on a torn Achilles tendon, said, ”I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I didn’t want it to be like this, but it is what it is and I’ve just got to push through it.”
Much earlier, Seattle made up deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning against Alex Cobb.
Baltimore has lost four in a row overall and 14 of 15 at home.
DO THE HUSTLE
Orioles shortstop Manny Machado heard some boos Tuesday night when he trotted to first base after hitting into a 4-6-3 double play.
Manager Buck Showalter promised the matter would be addressed Weston Richburg Color Rush Jersey , and he did so on Wednesday.
”He’s better than that,” Showalter said. ”It’s a really bad presentation, and he knows that. The toughest thing about it is that it’s a poor presentation of what he’s really about.”
Machado leads AL shortstops in fan voting for the All-Star Game, but Servais believes Jean Segura is playing well enough to be a backup.
”There are a lot of good shortstops out there, but our guy ranks top five in almost every statistical category,” Servais insisted.
Segura is batting .338 with 44 RBIs. He’s got nine errors but has displayed exceptional range.
Mariners: Servais says Cruz ”is moving in the right direction” and could return Thursday.
Orioles: RHP Darren O’Day (hamstring) and OF Craig Gentry (rib fracture) were placed on the 10-day disabled list.
Mariners: Mike Leake (8-4, 4.11 ERA) gets his 17th start in the series finale.
Orioles: Recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Jimmy Yacabonis will make his first major league start Thursday in place of injured Dylan Bundy.
ANAHEIM http://www.cowboysauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mike-white-jersey , Calif. — As the playoffs close in, teams like the Dallas Stars play out the string. Others, like the Anaheim Ducks, tune up for the postseason. These two squads meet in Anaheim on Friday night with the Ducks still vying for second in the Pacific Division.
Anaheim (42-25-13) defeated the Minnesota Wild at home on Wednesday night. The win clinched the Ducks’ sixth consecutive playoff appearance. Ryan Miller made 26 saves in the win. Ondrej Kase scored the winning goal to up his season total to 20. The Ducks are on a three-game win streak and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 contests. The Wild were playing with a depleted defensive corps due to injuries suffered by Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon.
Dallas (41-31-8) defeated the Sharks 4-2 in San Jose Tuesday night, coming back from a 2-0 deficit. They have gone 3-5-2 in their last 10 games but have won their last two contests. Mike McKenna got the victory on the strength of 17 saves after he replaced starter Kari Lehtonen in the Dallas goal. Lehtonen stopped 12 shots and allowed both San Jose goals. He exited after being stunned by a hard shot late in period one.
The Stars were knocked from playoff contention on Sunday. They looked disinterested in the first part of the San Jose game but tied things as the last five minutes approached. Jamie Benn scored both the go-ahead goal and the empty-net insurance marker in the last 3:06.
Benn said, “It was a tough first period and even the second, but we found a way to regroup and came out with a great effort in the third.”
McKenna is the prototype of the NHL journeyman. His last appearance was with Colorado in 2015. He last won a game in December of 2013. Upon taking the net, he immediately turned away a four-shot onslaught by the Sharks. Dallas locked the game down late, allowing only one shot on goal in the third period. This was McKenna’s sixth NHL victory.
Lehtonen is on injured reserve with day-to-day status. The Stars lost primary goaltender Ben Bishop to an injury in mid-March. He started 51 games and played in 53 this season. Coach Hitchcock said Lehtonen will likely be available for Friday, but the team announced Thursday that McKenna will play against the Ducks.
“Sometimes guys just earn it in this league — and I think http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-patrick-omameh-jersey , quite frankly, he’s earned it,” Hitchcock said as reported on the team’s website.
Anaheim is missing two crucial members. Cam Fowler suffered an upper-body injury versus Colorado on Sunday and is expected to miss two to six weeks. John Gibson was knocked over in his net in the first period versus Colorado. Both are on the injured reserve list.
Defenseman Francois Beauchemin said, “Now that we’ve clinched, it gives Gibby more freedom to really heal 100 percent before coming back.”
The Ducks can claim second place from San Jose depending on what the Sharks do in their last two games. For the past five years, the Ducks have won the Pacific. This year, injuries made that impossible.
Ryan Getzlaf said, “This whole year has been a bit of a struggle. With the start we had, and the players we had out of the lineup, it was tough to see the big picture at that point. Our guys did a good job battling throughout the whole year. We accomplished one goal we wanted.”
Coach Randy Carlyle commented http://www.billsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jeremy-kerley-jersey , “We felt if we played the right way and gave ourselves a chance, this group was capable of putting together a longer string of wins and (qualifying) for the playoffs. Now the goal changes. Yes, we have accomplished the goal we set out, but now we’re in a position with four points available to solidify or even improve our position if we continue to have success. We want to play the right way going into the playoffs.”
The Stars finish their season on the road Saturday, playing Los Angeles. The Ducks finish their regular-season campaign with a game in Arizona that same night.
Reigning champion Real Madrid is supporting plans to expand the Club World Cup to 24 teams following a meeting at FIFA.
Madrid is part of the European Club Association, which has voiced concerns about FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposals for a quadrennial Club World Cup to replace the annual tournament and pushed for players to get more mandatory rest periods.
Europe’s top domestic competitions, including the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga, have also opposed FIFA’s plans.
But Madrid, winner of the last two editions of the Club World Cup, is endorsing Infantino’s vision of the tournament being played every four years in June or July with 12 representatives from Europe.
Madrid’s director of institutional relations http://www.panthersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-rashaan-gaulden-jersey , Emilio Butragueno, believes fans would prefer the new tournament over the current seven-team format.
BERLIN (AP) – German officials called on the global soccer federation FIFA to intervene Saturday after a journalist who exposed systematic doping in Russian athletics was denied entry to Russia to report on the upcoming World Cup.
German lawmaker Dagmar Freitag, who chairs the sports committee in parliament, said the cancellation of Hajo Seppelt’s visa was ”not just completely unjustified, but pretty scandalous.”
Freitag told German news agency dpa she was ”anxious to see how (FIFA chief Gianni) Infantino reacts.”
Reinhard Grindel, the head of the German soccer federation, also noted FIFA’s pledge to uphold press freedom. He told dpa he had ”full confidence FIFA will use its influence so Mr. Seppelt can report unhindered from Russia.”
Seppelt works for German public broadcaster ARD. FIFA confirmed that it had already approved his accreditation request and was trying to obtain further information from Russian authorities about the case.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Tiger Woods shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Players Championship and tied for 11th at 11-under 277.
His round could have been much closer to the 65 he shot Saturday, except his approach on 14 spun off the green. He then missed an 8-foot par putt that caused him to flip his club, ended up with a disappointing bogey and limped home with a double at the famed 17th . Woods Ryan McMahon Colorado Rockies Jersey , however, left the course feeling better than ever about his comeback. He’s still seeking his first victory since returning from a fourth back surgery.
”This weekend was more like it,” Woods said.
Woods felt like he finally pulled together all aspects of his game: His driving was impeccable, his iron play was better than it’s been all week and his putting was as good as it’s been all season. He stirred packed galleries into a frenzy on Mother’s Day while wearing his traditional red shirt. Fans young and old stood dozens deep, scurrying from tee to fairway to green, just for a brief peek at Woods.
CHICAGO (AP) – Major League Baseball has warned Ben Zobrist of the Chicago Cubs against wearing black cleats.
Zobrist posted a letter from the league office on Instagram saying the cleats he wore May 2 against Colorado violated the collective bargaining agreement. MLB says they must be at least 51 percent blue – the Cubs’ color – and warned he could be fined and disciplined if he doesn’t comply.
Zobrist wrote he has worn black cleats for day games at Wrigley Field the past two years to honor the game’s past. He said he was inspired by watching highlights of greats such as Ernie Banks and Stan Musial in the 1950s and 1960s.
He had little to say about the warning after the Cubs beat the crosstown White Sox on Saturday, other than he plans to talk to the league and union about it. He came in to play left field as part of a double switch. And yes, he had on black cleats.
BOSTON (AP) – Jaylen Brown had 23 points and eight rebounds, Marcus Morris added 21 points and 10 boards, and the Boston Celtics opened a 21-point Authentic Olivier Rodrigue Jersey , first-quarter lead and scorched the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-83 on Sunday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Al Horford scored 20 points for the Celtics, who ran off 17 consecutive points in the first quarter and never allowed the Cavaliers within single digits again. Boston led by 28 when Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue pulled LeBron James for good with 7:09 left.
Game 2 is Tuesday night.
Kevin Love had 17 points and eight rebounds, and James finished with 15 points, nine assists and seven boards. The Cavaliers missed their first 14 3-point attempts of the game and shot just 32 percent in the first half.
By that time, Boston led 61-35 – the biggest halftime playoff deficit in James’ career.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Washington Capitals scored in the opening minute of the game and twice in the last 1:02 of the second period to pull away to a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night and a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference final.
Evgeny Kuznetsov and Lars Eller each had a goal and two assists. Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson had a goal and an assist apiece.
Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly also scored for the Caps, who took the first two games of the best-of-seven matchup on the road. Since 1974-75, teams that take a 2-0 lead in the conference final or semifinal have a series record of 39-2 (95.1 percent).
Game 3 is Tuesday night in Washington.
Braden Point and Steven Stamkos had early power-play goals for Tampa Bay, which rebounded after falling behind on Wilson’s goal 28 seconds into the game.
TAMPA J'Mon Moore Color Rush Jersey , Fla. — Since losing the series opener at home, the Tampa Bay Lightning have won three straight to put the Boston Bruins on the verge of elimination.
And yet the only thing the hockey world can talk about is Boston’s Brad Marchand licking Tampa Bay’s Ryan Callahan — on the face, during Game 4, like an ice cream cone — and what should happen.
Callahan asked after the game what the difference is between licking someone’s face and spitting on them, pointing out that the penalty for the latter is a game misconduct.
Lightning coach Jon Cooper said there’s no place for such an act in hockey.
The league came out Saturday only to say it would be reaching out to Marchand that any further licking-related problems were “unacceptable and similar behavior in the future will be dealt with by way of supplemental discipline.”
Call that a tongue-lashing Nick Nelson Color Rush Jersey , if you will.
The good news for the Lightning? They return home for Game 5 on Sunday afternoon at Amalie Arena with history on their side, No Lightning team has ever blown a 3-1 lead in the playoffs, and the Bruins are 0-23 in series they trailed 3-1.
The series has gone back and forth, just like Friday’s game, which saw the Lightning jump ahead 2-0 http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-isaiah-oliver-jersey , only to have Boston rally back for a 3-2 lead.
Steven Stamkos, held in check for much of the playoffs, came through with a huge goal to tie the score late in the third period, and Dan Girardi redirected an Alex Killorn shot in front of the net for the game-winner in overtime.
The LickGate fuss has obscured some key points to the Lightning turnaround. Boston hasn’t scored an even-strength goal in the last two games, and the Lightning have continued to score despite the Bruins effectively containing Nikita Kucherov and Stamkos for much of the series.
And for all of Tampa Bay’s momentum Derrick Nnadi Color Rush Jersey , there’s a keen realization that nothing is of consequence without anondher win.
“I’ll be the first one to tell you that we’ve accomplished nothing,” Cooper told reporters. “We’re really happy where we stand. But you got to win four (games), not three. And we’re really focused to get that fourth one.”
Boston must try to stay alive without arguably their best defenseman in Torey Krug, who injured his ankle in a Game 4 and will miss the rest of the series. Nick Holden will step into his role Sunday.
“He did a good job for us when he went in,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy told NHL.com about Holden. “We’re going to miss Torey Marquis Haynes Color Rush Jersey , obviously. He’s a good player for us and really adds to our offensive side of things, but Nick’s done a good job so in he’ll go.”
The Lightning’s quick dismissal of New Jersey in the opening round gave them a full week of rest before this series. Dispatch the Bruins on Sunday , they can rest again, with all the other series going at least six games.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Golden State Warriors as they get ready for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
The Warriors had to go on the road Monday night to beat Houston and win the Western Conference title. And on Thursday, they’ll be back at home playing host to Cleveland Cavaliers in their fourth consecutive matchup in the NBA’s title series.
So it’s been a bit harried. But that’s fine with Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
”I’d rather do it this way than have nine days to prepare http://www.brownsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-antonio-callaway-jersey ,” Kerr said on the “Podcast One Sports Now” show previewing Game 1 of the NBA Finals with host Tim Reynolds. ”You get stale. We’ve had that.”
That won’t be an issue in this series for either team. The Cavs also went the distance in their conference finals, needing seven games to top Boston.
Also on the podcast: Cavs coach Tyronn Lue talks about his health and ESPN’s Doris Burke breaks down the series – including why she roots for both LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
HOUSTON — Houston Astros veteran catcher Brian McCann pledged on Friday that he will return before the regular season concludes despite undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee earlier in the week.
McCann was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday. There is no timetable for his return.
McCann had dealt with recurring knee pain since last year. After posting a 108 OPS in his first campaign with the Astros in 2017 http://www.bearsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-anthony-miller-jersey , McCann was down to a 73 OPS this season, slashing .206/.283/.323 with five home runs and 17 RBIs over 50 games. McCann has played in 1,657 games since making his debut on June 10, 2005, catching 12,733 innings with the Atlanta Braves Royce Freeman Color Rush Jersey , New York Yankees, and Astros during the regular season.
“He’s got a little bit of mileage on him when it comes to catching games,” said Astros manager A.J. Hinch, a former catcher. “His knees have held up fine and he can play through a lot of pain. I think that’s what I appreciate the most in learning and knowing how much pain he played through. He tried, and he did a lot of things to post for our pitching staff. I think that’s one of the reasons he’s one of the most respected guys in there is what he’s willing to do to contribute.
“As his play declined, his comfort declined and what it took for him to play every day Luke Falk Color Rush Jersey , we needed to get it taken care of.”
Right-hander Charlie Morton (10-2, 2.55 ERA) will get the start for the Astros on Saturday. Morton has faced the White Sox once previously, working seven shutout innings while allowing four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in a 3-0 victory with the Pirates on June 16, 2015.
Morton is 24-9 with a 3.18 ERA and 296 strikeouts over 249 innings with the Astros.
In his past two starts, Morton has dominated in a win against Toronto and a loss to Tampa. In a 7-0 win against the Blue Jays he struck out 13 in seven innings. The Rays touched him up for two runs, but that was enough for a 3-2 Tampa Bay win. Morton struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings.
Right-hander James Shields (3-9 Jake Odorizzi Minnesota Twins Jersey , 4.12 ERA) will start for the White Sox (30-58) on Saturday. He is 1-4 with a 5.17 ERA on the road this season and 2-3 with a 3.19 ERA over seven career starts against the Astros. In his only start against Houston this season, Shields gave up seven runs in 5 1/3 innings and took the loss in a 10-0 defeat on April 20.
In 76 games (75 starts) against the American League West, Shields is 26-26 with a 3.83 ERA.
With right-hander Reynaldo Lopez working just 4 2/3 innings, the Chicago bullpen was forced to shoulder a heavy load again on Friday. Right-hander Chris Volstad, and lefties Luis Avilan and Hector Santiago combined to allow eight runs on seven hits and one walk over 3 1/3 innings in Chicago’s 11-4 loss, marking the 10th consecutive game the White Sox bullpen has surrendered a run.
Chicago relievers have pitched 303 2/3 innings this season Adrian Clayborn Color Rush Jersey , eighth-most in the American League.
“Obviously, (Lopez) didn’t give us the outing we were looking for,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “Worked through quite a bit of traffic, some deep counts, pitch count ran up there a bit. Had to give it to the relief corps again, which is strained.”
Kicker Dustin Hopkins has re-signed with the Washington Redskins http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-kyle-lauletta-jersey , and backup offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe was given a second-round tender worth about $2.9 million.
The Redskins announced both moves Monday.
Hopkins has made 73 of 87 field-goal attempts in three seasons, putting him at 83.9 percent, which ranks second in franchise history among kickers with at least 50 tries. His career-long kick is 54 yards.
He’s also made 94.9 percent of extra points, going 93 of 98.
Hopkins missed half of last season with a strained hip muscle. He went 14 of 17 on field-goal attempts and 18 of 19 on extra points.
The 6-foot-8, 338-pound Nsekhe has made 11 starts in the NFL and appeared in a total of 42 games. The 32-year-old tackle started five of the last six games last season.

Being healthy in the playoffs is taking priority over seeding http://www.texansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-keke-coutee-jersey , with a few teams sitting their top players Saturday in the final game of the regular season.
MVP front-runner Taylor Hall will sit out the New Jersey Devils‘ regular-season finale after the team clinched a playoff spot but can still move up the standings.
New Jersey is resting Hall, fellow forwards Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac, and defenseman Sami Vatanen in Game 82 at Washington, and it isn’t alone in taking precautions. The Columbus Blue Jackets won’t play stars Artemi Panarin, Seth Jones, Zach Werenski and two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky in their final regular-season game at Nashville.
Columbus coach John Tortorella told reporters he was ”absolutely not” trying to avoid facing the two-time defending Stanley Cup-champion Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. New Jersey coach John Hynes similarly answered that giving Hall a break is more important after a grueling push to clinch the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2012.
”We’re not looking to get in the playoffs and just be a Cinderella story,” Hynes said before his Devils faced the Metropolitan Division-champion Capitals on Saturday night. ”We’re looking to get in the playoffs and win, and (Hall is) a big part of that.”
Hall, who is one goal short of reaching 40 for the first time in his career, said he’s cool with the decision to rest instead of taking a chance on the eve of the playoffs.
”It’s a good time to get some rest and recuperate a little bit,” said Hall http://www.dolphinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jason-sanders-jersey , who has 93 points in 76 games and is expected to be a finalist for the Hart Trophy. ”We’ve played a lot of hockey lately, and a lot of the stuff in the standings is out of our hands other than our game.”
No Eastern Conference first-round matchups have been determined going into the final weekend of the season. The only series that’s set is the Winnipeg Jets facing the Minnesota Wild out West as the second- and third-place teams in the Central Division.
There are still numerous combinations of matchups among the seven teams in the East that have clinched, with the Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers still in the running for the final spot. Matchups can make a big difference in how the playoffs go, but players and coaches are careful not to look like they’re favoring one opponent over another.
”I learned a long time ago that you don’t wish for certain opponents,” Devils defenseman Ben Lovejoy said. ”It can backfire very quickly.”
The Tampa Bay Lightning certainly aren’t playing that game. With a chance to clinch first place in the Atlantic Division and avoid facing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, the Lightning are expected to start backup Louis Domingue in net at Carolina instead of Andrei Vasilevskiy, who leads the NHL in wins.
The Boston Bruins, who could catch the Lightning, are going with backup Anton Khudobin against Ottawa, but they also play Sunday night against Florida in a game that was rescheduled because of snow.
Virgil Green is used to trading personal gain for the success of the team.
In his first season with the Los Angeles Chargers, the veteran tight end’s unselfishness might be exactly what is needed following the loss of emerging star Hunter Henry to a serious knee injury.
”This isn’t the first time something like this has happened Saquon Barkley Giants Jersey , and it’s always `next man up’ mentality,” Green said following the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday. ”Everybody in that room has to contribute, whether you are No. 1 on the depth chart or last on the depth chart.”
Henry sustained a torn ACL in practice last month, leaving Green as the only tight end on the roster that has caught a pass in an NFL game and drastically changing his role for the upcoming season. Green, who signed with the Chargers as a free agent in March after playing seven seasons for the Denver Broncos, had been expected to serve mainly as a blocking complement to Henry.
Instead, Green might finally get his chance to be used more in the passing game, especially in the red zone. It was how Green was expected to be featured coming out of college at Nevada, but he never caught more than 22 passes in a season, with 48 of his 71 career receptions coming in the past three.
The chance to play a more prominent role is refreshing to Green, who has four career touchdown catches.
”I’ve made a living blocking when there were times I thought I should have been running routes http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-tracy-walker-jersey , but I kept my mouth shut and did what I was supposed to do, won a lot of games in Denver, and I hope to bring that here,” Green said. ”Obviously, who doesn’t want to catch touchdowns? I want to catch 10 touchdowns if I could, but whatever this team needs me to do to win games, that’s all I want to do.”
With Henry expected to miss the entire upcoming season, the Chargers will use a heavy dose of three-receiver sets highlighting 1,300-yard standout Keenan Allen and a diverse crop of talents including former first-round pick Mike Williams, who could be another big-bodied option near the goal line. Offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt praised the selfless nature of the wide receivers, and Green is trying to do his best to impart the same collective spirit to the tight ends.
Whisenhunt recognizes it has been a challenge for Green to help the other six tight ends on the roster while learning the offense for the first time. But Green carries the authority from his time at an AFC West rival to help the group http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-nick-nelson-jersey , which includes four rookies and two players in their second seasons, on how to approach life in the NFL.
”I’ve been in your position before,” Green said. ”Every year they said, `Oh, this guy, he’s not going to make the roster.’ But somehow I made the roster. Don’t stress about what’s said on the outside. Just focus on your job. Do what you do, and go have fun.”
Whisenhunt likes what he has seen so far from the untested tight ends behind Green, but recognizes a better evaluation will come during training camp and preseason games.
”The real test comes when we put the pads on and we see how they can hold up in the blocking and what we’re asking them to do there, but we have good competition with that group,” Whisenhunt said.
For Green, he is excited for the chance to help the Chargers get back into the postseason for the first time since 2013. He realizes how close they were to that goal last season while splitting the two-game season series with the Broncos.
”I know what it takes Anthony Miller Color Rush Jersey , what it takes for a team to go to the playoffs and be successful, and my role is just to do whatever this team needs me to do, whatever they need,” Green said. ”I’m just focused on ending my career with a bang.”
NOTES: Cornerback Jason Verrett (left knee) went through team drills for the first time since undergoing season-ending surgery last September. … Defensive tackle Corey Liuget did not participate as he recovers from foot surgery, but coach Anthony Lynn expects him to be available for training camp.
