RALEIGH, N. Tyler Patmon Jersey .C. -- The San Jose Sharks are aiming to repeat their epic November road trip from a year ago.The soon-to-be Western Conference champions reeled off six consecutive road wins last season over a nine-day period after a mediocre start. Now, San Jose is 3-0-0 on its current six-game Eastern Conference swing, having outscored Washington, Florida and Tampa Bay -- three pretty good teams -- by a combined 10-3 heading into a game at Carolina on Tuesday night as part of another six-game road trip.Sharks goalie Martin Jones has a .959 save percentage during the road trip, raising his season save percentage to .913. He finished at .918 last season. They are one of the better teams in the league overall, not just in the West, Carolina coach Bill Peters said. It looks liked their same timing from a year ago, getting on a roll. They are a good veteran team and are good on the back end. (Defenseman) Brent Burns is a special player back there with the fact that hes up the ice a lot and is unpredictable and can shoot it, so we have to know where he is on the ice. They have a nice, deep team.Carolina, last in the Metropolitan Division and in the middle of a five-game homestand, has had surprising success against the Sharks, going 8-3 over the past 11 meetings despite missing the playoffs the last seven seasons. They are a good team and have had success in the past, but I dont know if you get extra motivated to play them, said Carolinas leading scorer, Jeff Skinner. You should be motivated anyway, but were all aware how good a team they are, so you have to come in knowing its a good opportunity to rise to the challenge.Peters didnt rule out the return of two-time All-Star defenseman Justin Faulk, although it is more likely Faulk could return Friday against the red-hot Montreal Canadiens.Hes close; he was able to do everything in practice but the battles, Peters said of his star defenseman, who has missed two games with an upper-body injury.Peters juggled his lines Saturday night in a 5-1 win against the Capitals after the Hurricanes had gotten off to another slow start to the season. The new line of Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen and Sebatian Aho picked up 11 points vs. Washington. Were trying to find the right spot for a lot of different guys, Peters said.Defenseman Matt Tennyson made his Carolina debut against Washington, and he will be in action again Tuesday against his former team.He deserves the opportunity to stay in the lineup, Peter said. The whole trick is no matter how many minutes you get is to be productive on those minutes, and he managed the puck well the other night. He looked like he was real composed out there. On Monday, the Hurricanes terminated the contract of Jakub Nakladal. The 28-year-old defenseman was signed by Carolina as a free agent Oct. 9. He appeared in three games and did not register a point and was minus-4, averaging 14:30 of ice time. Calais Campbell Jersey . Denis Coderre, the former federal MP who was elected mayor on Nov. 3, has drawn the ire of some Montreal Canadiens. During last nights game he tweeted: "Hello? Can we get a one-way ticket to (minor-league) Hamilton for David Desharnais please. Dawuane Smoot Jersey . MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez also will attend the session, which was announced Monday. The league has discussed placing its next two expansion teams in Miami and Atlanta. . After the whistle, Thornton skated the length of the ice, pulled Orpik to the ice from behind and punched him in the face several times. GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Three straight wins are nice for the Green Bay Packers, but dont start talking to coach Mike McCarthy about postseason possibilities until they get to 10 victories. To do that, they need to win their final three regular-season games. If you get 10 wins, then lets talk about the playoffs. Until then, its all white noise, McCarthy said Monday. The Packers are certainly in much better shape than three weeks ago. They looked lost then after their record dropped to 4-6 thanks to a four-game skid that culminated with demoralizing back-to-back blowout losses at Tennessee and Washington. Now Green Bay is back to meting out decisive victories over quality opponents. Its been a while since we played with that type of energy and intensity. Obviously, you see what happens when we do, guard T.J. Lang said after the 38-10 win on Sunday over the Seattle Seahawks. This was an across-the-board whitewash of Seattle that perhaps few people outside of the Packers locker room saw coming. Even Lang, a veteran on the offensive line seemed a little surprised.I didnt see the game playing out like that. Our defense would probably tell you different, with the way they were able to take the ball away. Just a great team game, Lang said. There wasnt much time to celebrate on Monday. McCarthy refocused quickly on the Packers next opponent, the Chicago Bears, a game that begins a three-week stretch against NFC North foes to finish the regular season. The Packers (7-6) are tied with Minnesota in second behind division-leading Detroit , which has a two-game lead.Quarterback Aaron Rodgers hurt his right calf on Sunday while throwing a 66-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams on the third play of the game. Rodgers is already dealing with a sore left hamstring. Playing with limited mobility, Rodgers nevertheless dissected Seattles defense for 246 yards and three scores before leaving early in the fourth quarter with his team up by four scores. What was important for Rodgers, McCarthy said, was thatt he still had the ability to move in the pocket if needed. A. J. Cann Jersey. .If you cant reset your feet, I dont know how you can perform. But his ability to reset his feet and extend the time-clock ... the progression of the route concepts, was key, McCarthy said. As long as he can do that, then well be fine.It helps that the Packers are getting healthier in some areas on both sides of the ball, or finding new ways to compensate for injured players.Langs return from a foot injury following a three-game absence was a boost to an offensive line that is playing.McCarthy disclosed on Monday that former receiver Ty Montgomery is now a full-time running back, a change made partly out of necessity at some point earlier in the year because of the season-ending ankle injury to Eddie Lacy in Week 5.Montgomery, who also lined up in the slot at times on Sunday, is showing flashes of playmaking promise finished with nine carries for 41 yards rushing and a score, along with three catches for 45 yards. He played running back in high school before moving to receiver in college at Stanford.I had to get used to it a little bit at first, Montgomery said. I didnt play that much running back in college, and then playing at the NFL and playing running back is definitely a difference, but its fun.On defense, the secondary has been bolstered in recent weeks by the return of cornerback Damarious Randall from a groin injury. He grabbed two of Russell Wilsons career-high five interceptions, including one after sprinting and jumping front of a receiver at the goal line to take the ball away. The Packers have given up 36 points over the last three games -- or six less than what they gave up in the 42-24 loss to the Redskins alone on Nov. 20.---For more NFL coverage: and .---Follow Genaro Armas at: Cheap Soccer Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Hockey Jerseys Nike NFL Jerseys China Cheap Nike MLB Jerseys China Wholesale Baseball Jerseys China Wholesale College Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Near Me Cheap Jerseys Online Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Authentic Cheap Soccer Jerseys China Cheap NCAA Jerseys Authentic Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Authentic MLB Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Throwback Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

BALTIMORE -- The Army football team and its fans around the world can finally rejoice. Nate Hairston Jersey .No longer will they have to listen to barbs from Navy or lament another missed opportunity in the biggest game of the year.At long last, The Streak is over.Army ended a 14-year run of frustration against the Midshipmen, using an overpowering running game and opportunistic defense to carve out a long overdue 21-17 victory Saturday. With future commander in chief Donald Trump looking on, the Black Knights blew a 14-point lead before quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a 9-yard run with 6:42 left to give Army the win it had been waiting for since 2001.The Black Knights 14-game losing streak was the longest by either academy in a series that began in 1890. Army (7-5) now trails 60-50-7 in one of the nations historic rivalries. We heard for a long time here at West Point about the streak and all that, Army coach Jeff Monken said. It feels good to be a part of the team that put that to an end.Navy (9-4) was coming off a physical 34-10 loss to Temple in the American Athletic Conference title game and had only one week to prepare for Army with a new quarterback, sophomore Zach Abey, who was making his first college start. Abey took over Will Worth, who broke his foot against Temple.Abey ran for two touchdowns but passed for only 89 yards and was intercepted twice. Navy had four turnovers, three in the first half.I take a lot of responsibility for the game, Abey said. Obviously, in the first half I made some bad decisions. I feel horrible for the seniors. This senior class at Navy has accounted for 37 wins, most ever at the Academy over a four-year period. But theyll never forget this defeat. It hurts a little bit. It hurts a lot a bit, senior receiver Jamir Tillman said. We will take this loss into the offseason and use this as inspiration and run with it.That was a mantra chanted by the Black Knights for the past 14 years. Not anymore.Im just happy for our seniors, Monken said. The sense of pride that theyll have to go on, having beaten Navy, having beaten our biggest rival in their senior year. Its great for everybody in that locker room. I want them to enjoy it.By halftime, Army led 14-0 and owned a 14-1 advantage in first downs. After watching from the Navy side of the field before halftime, Trump visited the TV booth on the Army side in the third quarter. The interview with the president-elect coincided with a big shift in momentum. In the second half we made some adjustments, and those helped us out pretty well, Navy defensive end Amos Mason said.Andy Davidson lost a fumble on the Black Knights first possession of the second half and the Midshipmen recovered at the Army 32. A screen pass for 16 yards set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Abey to get Navy to 14-7.Minutes later, the Midshipmen got a field goal after a replay overturned a lost fumble by Abey at the Army 11.A 41-yard touchdown run by Abey gave Navy the lead with 12:42 remaining. But Army wasnt done. The Black Knights put together a 12-play, 80-yard drive that lasted nearly seven minutes and ended with Bradshaws TD.It was a great feeling, the junior quarterback said. I cant describe it. It just felt amazing. Our team worked really hard for this to happen today.Bradshaw went 2 for 4 for 35 yards and an interception in Armys first win in Baltimore since 1944.Davidson ran for 87 yards and two first-half scores, and Kell Walker carried 16 times for 94 yards.NEVER QUITSome teams might fold after letting a two-touchdown lead vanish. Not Army. When they took the lead 17-14 ... maybe some teams get that look in their eye of doubt, or concern, Monken said. But I think our guys just knuckled down and were determined that they were going to win.FAREWELL VERNEThis was the final football game in the broadcasting career of 76-year-old Verne Lundquist. He was cheered by the crowd during a live shot on the scoreboard.THE TAKEAWAYArmy: The Black Knights appear to be on the upswing under Monken, now in his third season. Theyre headed to a bowl game and have a victory over Navy to celebrate.Navy: The Midshipmen are staggering to the end of the season after a 9-2 start. The loss to Temple was tough to take, but this was much, much worse.UP NEXTArmy: The Black Knights meet North Texas in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, Armys first postseason action since 2010.Navy: The Midshipmen face Louisiana Tech in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23. It will be Navys 13th bowl appearance in the last 14 years.---More AP college football: and Chester Rogers Jersey . -- Stanfords Kevin Danser knelt on one knee and hardly moved on the sideline as Michigan State celebrated its Rose Bowl victory and his Cardinal teammates made their way to the locker room. Not since the days when they became known as the Bad News Bears has Brisbane sunk this low in the AFL.Sundays 22.14 (146) to 9.13 (67) thrashing by Greater Western Sydney in front of just 10,195 fans at the Gabba was the Lions 12th loss in a row. That streak equals the 12-match losing run of the Brisbane Bears team of 1990-91, a team who have become a byword for spectacular failure in the competition. The abysmal attendance is the lowest for the Lions at the Gabba in the clubs history.Brisbane didnt start too badly against a Giants team who are now inside the top four after their 11th win of a breakthrough campaign. But after a first quarter where they kicked the first two goals and were within a kick of their opponents at the break, they fell apart. The Giants kicked 10 goals to two in the second term, several of their goals coming from uncontested possessions well inside the Lions defensive 50.Under-fire coach Justin Leppitsch, who had to dispel rumours of a player revolt during the week, is now facing a clash this weekend against Essendon which looms as a wooden spoon showdown.Leppitsch is playing down the significance of the clash with the Bombers at Etihad Stadium next Sunday.Theres also another six games after that, Leppitsch said.It could be (decisive) but I dont think it will be. I still think weve got some winnable games at home on the back end as well we can take care of.I know most people will put a lot of emphasis on the game but we will go down there, absorb a lot of pressure and put in our best performance. Grover Stewart Jersey. he simple truth though will be that Leppitschs position will come under severe scrutiny if his club cant match a Bombers team topped up by kids and has-beens in the wake of the ASADA bans to 12 of the clubs senior players.I actually would be disappointed if it wasnt built up to be honest - its something to write about, he said.Im sure it will be, but we just have to focus on what we can do.The contrast couldnt be greater with the Giants, who are heading to a first finals campaign in their clubs brief AFL history.Coach Leon Cameron said the nature of the victory was pleasing after a disappointing loss to Collingwood the week before. He said the response, particularly by midfield stars such as Callan Ward, Dylan Shiel and Stephen Coniglio, was exactly what he was after.Really happy with our contested ball and our stoppages, he said.I thought (Shane) Mumford bounced back and I thought our midfield really bounced back and answered the challenge. It was pleasing we could come up here and play some good footy away from home. The Lions look set to lose Daniel McStay for the Bombers clash after he limped off in the third term with an ankle injury while theres doubts over Lewis Taylor (ankle), who didnt start Sundays match and Stef Martin (ribs) who played on despite copping a heavy bump from Giants star Steve Johnson in the second quarter. CHICAGO -- Jimmy Butler spun a basketball on his finger. Glenn Robinson Jersey . He joked around with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving during a brief 1-on-1 exchange. He smiled as some of the NBAs biggest stars lobbed some playful barbs in his direction.Back in Chicago on the eve of the Olympics, Butler is fitting in quite nicely with the U.S. national team. There are a lot of great players on this roster, but more than just basketball players, I get to learn a lot more about them off the court, Butler said, who they are as people and their families, and how they act, their personalities. I think thats been my favorite part of this whole journey, just getting to know the guys that I go up against every year. Its good practice for the fall, when Butler returns to a new-look Bulls team that suddenly includes a pair of longtime opponents for the versatile swingman.Derrick Rose is gone, traded to the New York Knicks. All-Star center Pau Gasol landed in San Antonio. But Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo decided to join Butler in Chicago, providing championship experience, but also two more players on the wrong side of 30 who like to have the ball in their hands.Im excited. I know they are as well, Butler said before Thursdays Team USA practice at the United Center. Its a new start for a lot of us.Butlers reputation also took a hit in the wake of Chicagos 42-40 finish in April, ending the franchises string of seven consecutive playoff appearances. The two-time All-Star was openly critical of new coach Fred Hoiberg and did not click with Rose last season.Asked about speculation he had a hand in Chicagos offseason activity, Butler brushed the notion away like he would an overzealous defender. That has nothing to do with me. I dont move guys, he said. Its like I always say, people are going to think what they want to think. That doesnt bother me, he continued. I know where I stand. I know who I am.Butlers inclusion on the national team establishes the 6-foot-7 Marquette product as one of the best players in the world, part of a steady rise for the No. 30 selection in the 2011 draft. On the 12-player roster for Team USA, only Draymond Green and DeAndre Jordan are lower draft picks.Butler, 26, averaged 20.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season. He has increased his averages for scoring and assists in each of the last four years.I knew he was a workhorse, but that man really never stops working, Golden State guard Klay Thompson said, and I give Jimmy a lot of credit because he came into this league and obviously he didnt have the hype he (would) if he was like a top-five pick, but hes worked himself into an All-Star and one of the best wings in the game. Before this Olympic run, U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski had only seen Butler on TV.The very first thing is just how strong and what a great athlete he is, Krzyzewski said. Then what a good guy he is, and then what an outstanding competitor. You felt he was going to check every box, but you put two checks in each of these boxes. Hes terrific, and hes a really good guy.Krzyzewski said Butler and Paul George are the most versatile players on the team, capable of guarding any position. Butler had four points and three rebounds while playing 14 1/2 minutes in the United States 107-57 exhibition victory over China on Tuesday night.Next up is a matchup with Venezuela on Friday night at Butlers home with the Bulls, and then a trip to Houston for one more game against Nigeria before departing for Brazil. When it comes to the Olympics, Butler said he just wants to win.Its a very familiar response for U.S. assistant Tom Thibodeau, who coached Butler with the Bulls before he was fired in May 2015.To see how much hes grown from his first year in the league to what hes become, its a testament to how hard hes worked, his intelligence, his drive, Thibodeau said. Each year hes gotten better, and I think his makeup will allow him to continue to improve each year.---Jay Cohen can be reached at Corey Knebel Jersey . -- Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Alrdridge were again the go-to duo for the Trail Blazers against the Kings. Orlando Arcia Jersey . Detroit and Boston are deadlocked, 1-1, and Tigers manager Jim Leyland could be forgiven if he was caught rationalizing instead of dissecting how his club could blow a 5-1 lead late in Game 2. . Toronto has dropped games to Indiana and Miami since a five-game winning streak and closed out a three-game road trip at 1-2. RIO DE JANIERO -- Her Snapchat photo from the bus ride to opening ceremonies was characterized by Serena Williams as her hungry face.It definitely wasnt a happy one as she described a long, cold, miserable journey: So I dont mean to be Debbie Downer or a Serena Downer, but Im kind of ready to go, she wrote. Im really tired, Im overwhelmed.By the time she got to Maracana Stadium, the photos and videos turned to twerking, and her sense of wonder at her fourth Olympic Games. This is so cool, Williams wrote.Thirty-six hours later, the world No. 1 found another antidote to jet lag and Rio traffic as she stepped onto center court at the Olympic Tennis Center for her first match and dispatched Australian Daria Gavrilova 6-4, 6-2 on a cool, windy Sunday afternoon before a vocal crowd. In Williams first match since capturing Wimbledon last month and tying the Open Era record with 22 Grand Slam titles, it was not as easy a victory as some may have expected against her 46th-ranked opponent. The competitive first set took 48 minutes. It feels good, Im happy to win my first match, said Williams, who committed 37 unforced errors to 28 by her opponent and converted 5-of-13 break point chances to 2-of-6 by Gavrilova. No one wants to go out in the first round. Its always a little tricky. You at least want to win a match, so I feel really good about that. And it wasnt an easy match for me today. She has a lot of big wins and she plays really well, so I was very happy.Gavrilova, 22, who represented her native Russia until 2015, when she emigrated to Australia, has career victories against Grand Slam champions Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and twice Petra Kvitova. To be honest, I got really tired in the second set, Gavrilova said. I played pretty late last night, and it really affected me. I got really flat, and you cant be flat against Serena because you have to run all the time.Gavrilova admitted to being slightly offended by all the people offering their regrets at her unfortunate draw, and indeed she did not go down easily. Manny Pina Jersey. You know youre playing the best in the world, but youre still trying to beat her ..., she said. Everyone is like, Oh, Im so sorry, [when they heard the draw], and I was really getting annoyed.Williams said she was happy to get through on a day in which the wind whipped on the hardcourts. The conditions definitely didnt make it easy, she said. And as is often the case, the crowd rooted heartily for the underdog. But as the match wore on, the characteristic shrieks and fist pumps became more frequent on Williams winners. With her coach, agent and sisters looking on from their courtside seats, this may as well have been a Grand Slam final. Williams competitiveness in sealing the victory revealed the athlete and patriot she and sister Venus are.Their four Olympic gold medals each are the most of any tennis player, and Venus, beset by a virus Saturday night causing her to lose her first-round match, could not help her sister advance beyond the first round of doubles. The Williams sisters were upset by Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycová on Sunday evening. While many multimillionaire professionals chose to bypass the Games, nothing, Serena said, would have kept her away from these Olympics.I didnt consider not coming, she said. I really wanted to be here. I was planning to be here since London, so it wouldve been a real pity if I made all these big plans and I couldnt make it. So I tried everything I could to come to Rio.The Olympic experience is always different. Youre not the focus. There are so many different athletes. My eyes are glued to the TV watching the different disciplines going on, so its a totally different experience. ST. LOUIS (AP) — Milwaukee’s last NL MVP thinks he is about to get some company.Led by Christian Yelich’s silky smooth game , the Brewers are closing in on the playoffs.Yelich homered and drove in a career-high six runs, and surging Milwaukee hurt St. Louis’ postseason chances with a 12-4 victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday.“Just trying to help the boys out any way you can,” Yelich said. “A lot of guys came through in some big situations for us. That was a lot of fun tonight.”Ryan Braun went deep twice and Jesus Aguilar also connected as Milwaukee lowered its magic number for clinching a playoff spot to one. But the Brewers are thinking bigger after their fifth win in six games put them just a half-game back of the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs.“I think the division is kind of what’s on our mind right now,” manager Craig Counsell said, “and I think we’ve earned that with the last two days.”Milwaukee (91-67) leads Colorado by 3½ games for the top wild card. St. Louis (87-71) dropped a half-game behind Colorado for the second NL wild card after the Rockies routed Philadelphia 10-3.“We have four games to play, and we feel good about the club we have and the kind of guys we have and the character we have and the talent we have,” Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. “We’ll control what we can control and we’ll get after it and let the chips fall.”Following Wednesday’s series finale, Milwaukee closes the regular season with a weekend set at home against lowly Detroit. St. Louis also is off Thursday before beginning a three-game series against the slumping Cubs at Wrigley Field.Yadier Molina hit a three-run homer for the Cardinals, who had won six of seven before their 6-4 loss to Milwaukee on Monday night. Marcell Ozuna went 3 for 3 with a walk.St. Louis left the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings when Jedd Gyorko came up empty each time. Third baseman Mike Moustakas turned an inning-ending double play on Gyorko’s chopper near the bag in the fifth, and Gyorko flied to right for the final out of the seventh.“This one’s kind of on me,” Gyorko said. “I’ve got to find a way to get the job done in those situations.”Milwaukee scored 11 runs with two out, including its first six. Yelich came up with the bases loaded in the fourth and tripled into the gap in right-center, lifting the Brewers to a 6-0 lead. After Lorenzo Cain was intentionally walked with two out in the ninth Reggie Jackson Jersey , Yelich hit a three-run drive to center.“It’s part of the game, but at the same time, it’s a challenge,” Yelich said of the walk to Cain. “As a competitor, you want to answer the challenge.”Yelich is batting .346 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 22 games this month. He has 33 homers, 104 RBIs, 110 runs and 181 hits on the year, all career highs.Braun, who won the MVP award in 2011, said he thinks Yelich is about to join the club.“I can’t foresee a scenario in which he doesn’t win it,” Braun said. “He’s been so incredible for us in every facet of the game.”Taylor Williams (1-3), the second of six Milwaukee relievers after Gio Gonzalez pitched four innings, got three outs for the win. The Brewers used nine pitchers in their series-opening victory.Cardinals rookie Austin Gomber (6-2) was tagged for five runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.LONG GONECardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter and Shildt were ejected in the seventh inning. Carpenter argued with home plate umpire Will Little after he was called out on strikes , and then was thrown out as he walked toward the dugout.“I understand the importance of staying in these games,” Carpenter said. “So when I get thrown out of the game as I’m walking away, that’s something I have a problem with.”TRAINER’S ROOMBrewers: All-Star reliever Jeremy Jeffress was available after he missed the series opener because of neck spasms.Cardinals: 2B Kolten Wong returned to the starting lineup for the first time since he left Friday’s victory over San Francisco with cramps in both hamstrings. He struck out swinging as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of Monday’s loss. “Obviously at this point of the season no one’s 100 percent,” he said. “For me as long as I know I can run and I can play I’m going to be out there.”UP NEXTBrewers right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (14-8, 3.61 ERA) and Cardinals right-hander John Gant (7-6, 3.53 ERA) pitch Wednesday night in the series finale. Chacin is 0-3 with a 4.34 ERA in four September starts. Gant lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his last outing, yielding one run and four hits Friday against the Giants. ATLANTA (AP) — Jameson Taillon extended the Atlanta Braves‘ home struggles, leaving the NL East tight entering the final month of the season.Gregory Polanco’s eighth-inning single drove in Adam Frazier with the tiebreaking run, Taillon allowed only two runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates recovered after blowing a two-run lead to beat the Braves 3-2 on Friday night. The first-place Braves, who have lost five of their last seven, saw their NL East lead shrink to two games over Philadelphia entering September.“There are definitely some difficult and intense situations, but I think our mindset is to continue to have fun,” third baseman Johan Camargo said through a translator. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Camargo and hit home runs in the sixth and seventh innings Glenn Hubbard Jersey , respectively, for a 2-2 tie before the Pirates reclaimed the lead in the eighth. The Braves have lost seven of their last eight home games.Manager Brian Snitker said his young players, including 20-year-old Acuna, 21-year-old Ozzie Albies and 24-year-old Camargo, will gain valuable experience in the final month.“It’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be a great experience for them,” Snitker said. “You can’t simulate that anywhere.”Taillon (11-9) gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings.“Tonight was one of those nights that was really fun,” Taillon said, adding he had a good chemistry with catchers Elias Diaz and Francisco Cervelli. “It seemed like everything they were putting down I already had gripped and already had in my mind and I was able to execute.”Felipe Vazquez pitched out of trouble in the ninth for his 29th save in 33 opportunities. Camargo hit a one-out single up the middle, past a diving Josh Harrison, and advanced to second on Kurt Suzuki’s single to right. Camargo was forced out at third on a fielder’s choice before Vazquez struck out Dansby Swanson to end the game.Frazier, pinch-hitting for Taillon, led off the eighth with a walk from Brad Brach (2-4) and moved to second when Albies bobbled Starling Marte’s grounder at second base for an error. Frazier scored the unearned run on Polanco’s single up the middle.Corey Dickerson led off the second with a double down the right-field line and scored on a single up the middle by Diaz. Anibal Sanchez ended the second with three straight strikeouts to begin a stretch of retiring 12 consecutive batters.Sanchez allowed two runs, one earned Rickey Henderson Jersey , on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.TRAINER’S ROOMPirates: Diaz left the game in the seventh with a sore right hamstring. He was limping after running to first on his groundout to shortstop.Braves: RHP Peter Moylan aggravated his right forearm strain, ending his rehab assignment and hopes of returning this season. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. … RHP Arodys Vizcaino (right shoulder inflammation) threw live batting practice and is ready to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. … RHP Brandon McCarthy (knee) allowed two runs on four hits in two innings in his rehab outing with Gwinnett.CONSISTENT TAILLONTaillon became one of only three pitches in the majors with at least 17 consecutive starts allowing no more than three earned runs.BIG MONTHAcuna capped a productive August. The rookie led the NL with 39 hits and 25 runs and tied for the league lead with 11 homers, giving him 22. The Braves said Acuna is the first NL rookie over the last 110 seasons with at least 39 hits and 11 homers in a month.GREAT CATCHBraves center fielder Ender Inciarte made a leaping catch of a drive hit by David Freese to end the first inning. A look at what’s happening around the majors Tuesday:SET FREERobinson Cano is set to return from his 80-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug agreement when Seattle plays at Oakland. The All-Star second baseman has been out since May 15 Andrew Heaney Jersey , though he’s been playing in the minor leagues for the past week. Cano is ineligible for the postseason if Seattle makes it, but manager Scott Servais hopes the 35-year-old can help the Mariners get there as a versatile piece around the infield. Servais said the team will work Cano in slowly, getting him reps at first, second and third base.“We need to be smart in breaking him in,” Servais said. “He wants to get going, he wants to contribute right away. He’s missed playing, he’s missed his teammates and being around this whole thing. I know he wants to come in and do a lot. But again small little things.”Seattle entered Monday 1 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second AL wild card.ROLLING RONALDRonald Acuna Jr. is the youngest player to homer in four straight games during the live ball era Huston Street Jersey , according to ESPN, and he’ll go for five when Atlanta hosts Miami. Acuna homered to lead off both ends of Monday’s doubleheader against the Marlins, making him the first to do that since Baltimore’s Brady Anderson in 1999 and just the fourth to do it overall, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.MAKING PROGRESSKenley Jansen is back with the Dodgers and preparing to return to action sooner than expected after being diagnosed last week with an irregular heartbeat. Jansen threw a light bullpen session Monday and will also throw Wednesday and Friday this week. Jansen expects to return much sooner than the initial projection of 4 to 6 weeks, though he says he may still require an ablation procedure on his heart this offseason. He had a similar operation in 2012.CENTRAL SHOWDOWNThe Cubs and Brewers begin a pivotal two-game series at Wrigley Field. Milwaukee is three games back of Chicago for the top spot in the NL Central after David Bote’s game-ending grand slam pushed the Cubs over the Nationals in the ninth inning Sunday night. Jhoulys Chacin (11-4, 3.91) will pitch for the Brewers against Jose Quintana (10-8, 4.28) , who gave up five runs in a 9-0 loss to Kansas City last time out.NOT VERY VERLANDERJustin Verlander tries to bounce back from his worst start of the season when Houston hosts Colorado. Verlander allowed six runs in two innings against the Mariners last time out before getting ejected for arguing a balk call. Verlander allowed three homers in that game and has given up 10 in his past five starts — compared to 12 in his first 20. German Marquez (9-9, 4.69) will start for the Rockies. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Bartolo Colon kept the Texas Rangers close after a rough first inning in his first start since setting the record for victories by a Latin American pitcher. His catcher helped the 45-year-old right-hander extend that mark.Robinson Chirinos hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the fourth while finishing with four RBIs, and Colon made it through five innings in the Rangers’ 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.Colon (7-10) retired 10 consecutive batters after allowing run-scoring doubles by A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. in the first. Pollock’s liner was misplayed in right field by Joey Gallo.Big Sexy got his 247th career win, two more than Dennis Martinez of Nicaragua. A native of the Dominican Republic, Colon has four more victories than countryman and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal.“He’s been doing it for so long , he knows when he gives up some runs he can come back and keep the game close,” Chirinos said. “That’s what he did tonight.”Chirinos’ 443-foot drive into the visitors’ bullpen in left-center was his 16th homer of the season and ended Arizona right-hander Zack Greinke’s streak of nine straight starts allowing two runs or fewer. Chirinos added an RBI single in the eighth.Ronald Guzman led off the third with his 13th homer after Greinke (12-8) retired the first six Texas hitters.Greinke permitted six hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts while dropping his third straight start after winning his previous seven decisions.“I think they’re the best offense in baseball the last month,” Greinke said. “So going in in their home park is going to be tough. But I made more mistakes and got behind in more counts than needed to make it a little bit tougher.”Colon gave up four hits and three runs while setting a Texas record with his 22nd straight start with two or fewer walks. He issued one free pass and struck out three. Colon has won both his starts in August after losing all five in July.Rangers reliever Eddie Butler retired all six batters he faced. Cory Gearrin got Eduardo Escobar on a tapper in front of the plate to end the eighth with runners at the corners in a one-run game, and Jose Leclerc struck out two in a perfect ninth for his second save.BELTRE’S HAMSTRINGRangers manager Jeff Banister said Adrian Beltre reinjured his left hamstring while scoring from second base on Chirinos’ single in the eighth. He was replaced at third base by Jurickson Profar in the ninth. The Rangers said Beltre, who got career hit No. 3,137, would have an MRI on Tuesday. Beltre has missed 27 games over two stints on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.TOP OF THE HEAPThe Diamondbacks began the night a game ahead of the Dodgers for the lead in the NL West. Los Angeles played San Francisco at home later Monday. “Our pitching has been outstanding Cameron Maybin Jersey , and that’s the reason we are where we’re at,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “I feel like we’ve earned it. Could it be better? Yeah.”NICE SNAG, SKIPBanister made a nifty, one-handed catch on a bouncer into the dugout from Guzman in the fourth inning, reaching above his head with his right hand. Three innings earlier, he stayed away from a smash by Escobar. Both were batting left-handed. “It was just inside my reach,” Banister said. “The first one I was not going to be able to catch. That one was coming pretty hard. That one would have hurt for a long time.”TRAINER’S ROOMRangers: RHP Doug Fister is headed home for the season because his right knee strain isn’t responding to treatment as hoped. Fister hasn’t pitched since limping off the mound after throwing the first pitch of the sixth inning against Houston on June 8. … RF Nomar Mazara (right thumb sprain) will play nine innings in a rehab assignment for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday. He’s been out since July 17.UP NEXTArizona LHP Patrick Corbin (9-4 , 3.15 ERA) makes his first career appearance against the Rangers in the finale of the two-game series. Texas RHP Yovani Gallardo (7-1, 6.11) has the most wins in the majors since June 23 with seven, and the highest run-support average by almost two runs at 11.43 during that same span.

CHICAGO (AP) — Jim Thome now has a gigantic bat to go with a Hall of Fame plaque. The Chicago White Sox gave the former slugger with the big stick an appropriate gift during a pregame ceremony before Saturday night’s matchup against the Cleveland Indians , another honor for a player enshrined in Cooperstown in his first year of eligibility two weeks ago.“This is so special,” Thome said prior to the ceremony. “This is my family, this is where I work, this is where we live. … This is really special.”The White Sox showed highlights of Thome’s time with them as well as his Hall of Fame induction. Just as she did in Cooperstown, his daughter Lila sang the national anthem.Thome got a standing ovation as he walked out of the dugout. The White Sox presented several gifts, including a black 8-foot bat that had his name and images of him.Thome thanked former White Sox star Paul Konerko for attending the induction. He mentioned teammates such as Jermaine Dye, A.J. Pierzynski, Scott Podsednik and Joe Crede while praising former manager Ozzie Guillen and his staff as well as White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and team executives Ken Williams and Rick Hahn. The tribute was fitting for a five-time All-Star who hit 612 homers in 22 seasons with Cleveland, Philadelphia, Chicago, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota and Baltimore.Thome got drafted by Cleveland out of Illinois Central College in the 13th round of the 1989 draft and spent his first 12 major league seasons with the Indians. But he forged a strong connection with the White Sox and their fans once Chicago acquired him in a trade with Philadelphia prior to the 2006 season.Thome hit 134 homers for the White Sox before getting dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in August 2009. None were bigger than the drive he hit in the 2008 AL Central tiebreaker game to give the White Sox a 1-0 victory over the Twins. Chicago then lost to Tampa Bay in the AL Division Series.Thome grew up about 130 miles southwest of Comiskey Park in Peoria and remains a popular figure on the South Side. He is currently a special assistant to general manager Hahn. The Indians unveiled a statue of Thome at Progressive Field four years ago and are scheduled to honor him again next weekend. The Twins are also giving out Thome bobbleheads on Aug. 25. NEW YORK (AP) — Austin Romine never expected to replace Aroldis Chapman as the Yankees’ closer.A backup catcher, Romine was leaning on the dugout railing and watching New York get blown out by Boston in Game 3 of the AL Division Series when bench coach Josh Bard walked up to him in the eighth inning.“Can you throw?” Romine recalled Bard asking.“I can try,” the seven-year big league veteran replied.Romine became just the second position player to pitch in postseason history. The 29-year-old right-hander — has he ever been called that before? — allowed Brock Holt’s two-run ninth-inning homer, completing the first-ever postseason cycle. Romine got the last three outs of New York’s 16-1 loss Monday night Chris Archer Jersey , the largest margin of defeat for the Yankees in their 396 postseason games.“No, I didn’t envision myself getting in these playoffs in that role,” said Romine, whose previous playoff experience was one start at catcher plus one inning as a late substitute against Houston in last year’s AL Championship Series.Luis Severino was chased in the fourth inning with a 3-0 deficit that Lance Lynn and Chad Green quickly allowed to become 10-0. Yankees manager Aaron Boone cycled through Jonathan Holder and Stephen Tarpley. With New York trailing 2-1 in the best-of-five series, Boone wanted to keep David Robertson, Dellin Betances, Zach Britton and Chapman fresh for Game 4.“You hate doing something like that,” Boone said.Infielder Cliff Pennington was the first position player to take the mound in the postseason, entering in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the 2015 AL Championship Series with Toronto trailing Kansas City by 10 runs. He gave up a pair of singles, the second driving in two runs, before an inning-ending flyout in a 14-2 defeat.Romine had not pitched since 2007, his senior year at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California. Gary Sanchez said Romine had two pitches: fastball and slower fastball. With the Yankees trailing by 13 runs, he threw from 64-90 mph in an 18-pitch outing, using a three-quarters delivery and a short windup in which he didn’t lift his hands above his armpits as he rocked and dealt.“You got to change speeds or they’re going to hit it out Kevin Kiermaier Jersey ,” Romine said.Romine started Xander Bogaerts with an 80 mph pitch on the low, outside corner for a called strike, then gave up a 111 mph smash to third for a groundout. Rafael Devers grounded out. Fans rose to their feet when he went to a 2-2 count on Ian Kinsler, who walked.Holt turned on his first pitch, 79 mph at the knees on the inner part of the plate, and pulled it 355 feet just inside the right-field foul pole and over the short porch.“You get a little antsy when a position player is on the mound,” Holt said. “I scooted up in the box a little bit, and I was going to be swinging at anything and try to hook anything.”Christian Vazquez followed with a flyout to right.Romine’s first professional pitching line: one inning, two runs, one hit, one walk.“I would have liked to have fun with it,” he said, “but really, I was just trying to get out of the inning.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) — David Freese is hitting third for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers Larry Andersen Jersey , returning to a city where he enjoyed postseason success in 2011.Freese was the 2011 NLCS MVP after hitting .545 with three homers and nine RBIs for St. Louis in the Cardinals’ six-game series victory over the Brewers. The Dodgers acquired Freese this season in August from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit .385 in 19 games in the regular season with Los Angeles. The right-handed hitting Freese is in the lineup at first base against Brewers left-handed starter Gio Gonzalez. Lefty slugger Max Muncy, who leads the Dodgers with 35 homers, will come off the bench.Chris Taylor and Justin Turner hit ahead of Freese, who is followed by cleanup hitter Manny Machado, Matt Kemp and Kike Hernandez.Cody Bellinger, the only left-handed hitter in the lineup, is seventh. Switch-hitter Yasmani Grandal hits eight, followed by starter Clayton Kershaw. The Brewers are going with right handed-hitting Hernan Perez at second and shortstop Orlando Arcia at shortstop against the Dodgers’ ace left-hander. Lefty-swinging infielder Travis Shaw is on the bench.Lorenzo Cain leads off for Milwaukee, followed by MVP candidate Christian Yelich, one of two lefties in the lineup. They’re followed by Ryan Braun, Jesus Aguilar and Perez, while the left handed-hitting Mike Moustakas bats sixth. Manny Pina, Arcia and Gonzalez round out the lineup. OAKLAND , Calif. (AP) — James Paxton knows he will be pitching in plenty of meaningful games during the stretch run, and now that he is healthy and back on the mound it provides a big boost for Seattle’s playoff chances.Paxton returned from the disabled list to strike out 10 batters over five innings, Ben Gamel hit a two-run double, and the Mariners held off the Oakland Athletics 8-7 on Saturday night in a matchup of contenders with a knack for comebacks.“You always want to be part of this kind of thing,” Paxton said. “We’re in the race. We’ve played some good games here against these guys and hopefully we can come out and get the series win tomorrow.”Jean Segura had a two-run single in the fifth, an inning after he was hit by a pitch. He finished with three hits, helping Seattle pull within 4 1/2 games of Oakland for the second AL wild card.Khris Davis hit his majors-leading 40th home run to start the eighth for Oakland, giving him three straight 40-homer seasons . He joined Jimmie Foxx from 1932-34 as the only players in A’s history to accomplish that feat.“It’s just miraculous numbers that he puts up,” manager Bob Melvin said. “We’ve had a long history of power hitters here, and to be with Jimmie Foxx and that kind of company, and we’re still looking at close to a month left, he’s been as consistent a power hitter as anybody who’s been in Oakland.”Marcus Semien added a two-run double in the eighth and left fielder Denard Span’s blunder trying to scoop up the ball allowed a third run to score to make it 8-7.Edwin Diaz walked Jed Lowrie to begin the ninth and put the tying run aboard, and then recovered to strike out the side for his club-record 51st save in 55 opportunities. With an ailing rotation Tug McGraw Jersey , the A’s made a day-of change to start September call-up reliever Liam Hendriks (0-1) — a philosophy Tampa Bay employed this season — and then manager Bob Melvin eventually went to regularly scheduled starter Daniel Mengden after two other relievers. After Gamel’s double in the second got the Mariners going, Seattle scored two of its three runs in the third on errors.Mark Canha hit two-run homer in the fifth for the A’s, who struck out 18 times.Paxton (11-5) pitched for the first time since getting hit on his left forearm by a line drive Aug. 14 at Oakland. He allowed three runs on two hits and walked four, and while he felt rusty he knows he will likely be sharper the next time out as he works on a more consistent release point.“A game we needed to have tonight,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “We got out offensively really good. I thought our at-bats were outstanding against a number of different pitchers.”The lefty clapped his hand into his glove after retiring Davis on a strikeout to end the fifth following consecutive two-out walks to Matt Chapman and Lowrie.Ryon Healy had a pair of hits against his old club as the Mariners won for just the second time in six games.Seattle’s Mitch Haniger doubled leading off the fourth to match his career high with a 13-game hitting streak.Mengden wound up working the third and fourth innings as the A’s used nine pitchers. That matched the most for any game in Oakland history and was the highest number used in a nine-inning game.MAXWELL DEPARTSAs Oakland made September call-ups, the A’s designated catcher Bruce Maxwell for assignment, possibly ending his tenure with the club.In July, Maxwell was sentenced to two years of probation on a disorderly conduct charge, nearly three months after he pleaded guilty to the charge in a gun-related incident. Police said Maxwell had pointed a handgun at a woman who delivered food to his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, in October.“I don’t think it was a distraction for us,” Melvin said of Maxwell’s legal issues. The A’s made it a priority to promote catcher Beau Taylor, one of eight players added Saturday Drew Hutchison Jersey , and he caught the ninth to make his major league debut.TRAINER’S ROOMMariners: LHP Marco Gonzales, on the DL retroactive to Aug. 24 with a strained neck muscle, has been throwing in recent days and is getting closer to throwing a bullpen session, Servais said.Athletics: OF Matt Joyce came off the 10-day DL as expected when rosters expanded. He had been out since July 5 with a strained lower back.UP NEXTRight-hander Felix Hernandez (8-12, 5.49 ERA), long the bane of Oakland batters, starts the series finale for Seattle opposite A’s righty Edwin Jackson (4-3, 3.03). Hernandez seeks his first victory in nine outings since beating the Royals on June 30, a span during which he’s 0-6.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Twins manager Paul Molitor is taking full advantage of expanded September rosters.Eddie Rosario homered , Ehire Adrianza had three hits and three RBIs, and Minnesota used six relievers to overcome a short start and beat the Kansas City Royals 10-6, snapping a five-game skid Friday night.Trevor May (4-1) picked up the win with two shutout innings in relief of Stephen Gonsalves, who lasted just 2 1/3 innings in his fourth major league start. With a day off Thursday and a 13-man bullpen, Molitor pulled Gonsalves after he’d thrown just 52 pitches.“Thank God for September,” Molitor said. “We’ve got a lot of fresh people coming off the off day and the amount of people that we have, that helps make your decisions a little easier to go ahead and turn it over a little bit more quickly than you might another time in the season.”After the Twins took the lead with three runs in the fifth, May, Matt Magill, Taylor Rogers and Trevor Hildenberger each kept the Royals off the board the rest of the way.“The guys we brought in all did a nice job putting up the zeroes the last half of the ballgame,” Molitor said.Salvador Perez homered and Jorge Bonifacio had three hits for the Royals, who have lost three straight after winning eight of nine.“We just couldn’t find a way to get the ball hit at somebody,” said Royals manager Ned Yost, whose pitchers allowed 12 hits and walked seven batters in eight innings.Minnesota broke a 6-6 tie with a three-run fifth. Max Kepler and Adrianza had RBI singles against Glenn Sparkman (0-3). Rosario tacked on his team-leading 23rd home run leading off the eighth.GONSALVES STRUGGLES AGAINThe Twins gave Gonsalves an early lead on Adrianza’s two-run single in the second, but the Royals knocked him out with a six-run outburst in the third. Gonsalves, one of Minnesota’s top pitching prospects, got through the first two innings without much trouble, but the second time through the order was a different story. After No. 9 hitter Cam Gallagher flew out to start the third, the next five batters reached base against Gonsalves. Alex Gordon’s two-run double tied the score at 2-2, and two batters later Bonifacio singled home Gordon to end the left-hander’s night.Gonsalves is now 0-2 with an 11.68 ERA in four starts since being called up Aug. 20. He walked three batters Friday Jason Hammel Jersey , giving him 13 walks in 12 1/3 innings. He said it’s been hard to concentrate on getting batters out while also trying to make progress with the mechanical work he’s been doing with Twins pitching coach Garvin Alston.“I’ve been working with Garvin on something new every week,” Gonsalves said, “and I think my mind’s on that — mechanics, instead of competing.”Molitor thinks some of Gonsalves’ issues are a product of better competition.“He’s had some stretches earlier this year in particular (in Triple-A) where he was able to pitch around some of the command issues that he had,” Molitor said. “But up here, the margin for error is a little different. You’ve got guys who are going to battle when they’ve got two strikes and they’re not going to expand as much as maybe down there. Some of those small differences play out differently up here.”FILLMYER FLOPSThe Twins dealt Royals starter Heath Fillmyer a fate similar to Gonsalves’ in the bottom of the third, knocking him out as five of the first six batters reached base. Jake Cave hit an RBI double and scored on a wild pitch to tie it at 6.“I didn’t work ahead of anybody. I didn’t execute as well as I should have,” Fillmyer said. “Some of those things end up happening when you don’t execute as fine as you want.”ALMOST A HAT TRICKPerez greeted reliever Alan Busenitz with a three-run homer into the bullpens in left-center. His 24th home run of the season gave the Royals a 6-2 lead in the third inning. Perez also hit two high fly balls that backed Twins left fielder Rosario to the wall before they came up just short of the fence.Perez now has 17 career home runs at Target Field, the most of any Twins opponent.TRAINER’S ROOMRoyals: OF Brett Phillips is day-to-day with a shoulder contusion he suffered running into the wall in Cleveland on Tuesday.Twins: Rosario returned to the lineup after missing six games with sore quadriceps, but 3B Miguel Sano remained sidelined with a lower left leg bruise suffered on Tuesday in Houston.UP NEXTRoyals: In the second game of the series Saturday evening, RHP Jorge Lopez (1-4, 2.24 ERA) makes his fifth start for the Royals since being acquired from Milwaukee in the Mike Moustakas deal. His last time out he held the Orioles to one run over seven innings while striking out eight in a 9-1 victory.Twins: RHP Jose Berrios (11-10, 3.92), the Twins’ lone 2018 All-Star, will try to turn it around against the Royals. In his last seven starts he’s 1-3 with a 5.67 ERA. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Welcome to the big leagues, Brett Kennedy.Jesus Aguilar, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames hit consecutive first-inning homers to spoil Kennedy’s San Diego debut and propel the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-4 victory over the Padres on Wednesday night.Kennedy, who was 10-0 in 16 starts at Triple-A El Paso before being called up Monday, was tagged for six runs on 11 hits in four innings.“We were trying to be aggressive within the strike zone, kind of go after him right away ,” Aguilar said through a translator. “He even surprised us because he was throwing a little harder than all the reports said. We knew he had a really good record down below in Triple-A, but it’s a little different up here. We were just trying to be aggressive with everything he threw in the zone.”Orlando Arcia and Christian Yelich also homered for the Brewers, giving them a season-high five. Hunter Renfroe had a two-run shot for San Diego.Jhoulys Chacin (11-4) allowed three runs on six hits in six innings to win for the fifth time in six decisions.“We got the early lead and then he put up a bunch of zeroes, which just takes a little wind out of the sails of the opponent, obviously, and we tacked on a couple more runs as well,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “He pitched a good game. It was kind of what we’ve seen from Jhoulys all year.”Kennedy (0-1) retired Yelich on a groundout to open the game, but the next seven hitters reached. Lorenzo Cain singled to right and advanced to third on Mike Moustakas‘ opposite-field bloop single down the left-field line.Aguilar then drove a 3-2 pitch the other way over the right-field wall for his team-leading 28th home run. Shaw followed with his 23rd homer and Thames added his 16th to put the Brewers up 5-0.Kennedy, who had allowed just six homers in 89 1/3 innings in the Pacific Coast League, then allowed singles to Erik Kratz and Orlando Arcia before retiring the next two hitters.“Not too many butterflies but I was amped up,” Kennedy said. “The ball was coming out pretty good. I didn’t locate some pitches. I threw a good pitch to Aguilar but he put a good swinging on it and hit a home run. I think I tried doing a little too much after that on those next two home runs. After that, I kind of settled down a little bit and started making some pitches.”The Brewers made it 6-0 in the second on singles by Cain and Aguilar and Shaw’s sacrifice fly.San Diego pushed across run in the fifth. Austin Hedges singled and Freddy Galvis walked. Chacin then snagged Franmil Reyes‘ scorching liner and doubled Galvis off first. Hedges came around on Cory Spangenberg’s single under the glove of first baseman Aguilar.Arcia answered in the bottom half with his third homer, a two-out solo shot to center. It was his first homer since April 19, spanning 55 games and 182 plate appearances for a career-long homerless streak.Renfroe’s two-run homer in the sixth, his 11th, cut the lead to 7-3, but Yelich countered with his 18th homer to open the bottom half.Padres manager Andy Green said he was encouraged by the way Kennedy responded after the first inning.“He was probably a little ampled up and a little less command than he’s had than he’s had over the course of the season,” Green said. “He’s been so pinpoint for most of the season. I actually thought the pitch to Aguilar was a tip-your-cap swings a guy just makes from time to time. Then missed over the middle to some good left-handed hitters. But we saw who he was over the last couple innings. We saw a guy settled in, dialed in, locating his fastball very well. He pitched effectively.”KENNEDY’S HOMERS: Kennedy became the third pitcher to allow three straight home runs in his debut , according to STATS, Inc., joining the Yankees Bill Fulton (Sept. 12, 1987 at Toronto) and the Brewers Tyler Thornburg (June 19, 2012 vs. Toronto). Kennedy is the only one to do so in the first inning of his debut.BREWERS BOMBS: Five homers by five different players tied a franchise record. It was the first time the Brewers hit three consecutive homers since May 9, 2015 at Detroit (Ryan Braun, Adam Lind, Aramis Ramirez). According to Stats, Inc, it was the first time the Brewers had three consecutive home runs at home.UP NEXTPadres: LHP Robbi Erlin (2-3, 3.34) will make his fourth start of the season, along with 27 relief appearances. He made one start in May and another in June, before starting Aug. 2 against the Cubs, allowing one run in five innings for his ninth career victory as a starter.Brewers: RHP Junior Guerra (6-7, 3.42) has not won in four starts since July 8. He has allowed 15 earned runs in 22 innings over that span. Guerra has a 2.55 ERA in 13 starts at Miller Park, compared with 4.97 on the road.

ATLANTA (AP) — Brewers right-hander Joakim Soria was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday because of a strained right groin.Soria was injured while giving up a grand slam to Hunter Renfroe in the ninth inning Thursday in an 8-4 home loss to San Diego. He left the after facing two batters.“We’ll just treat it and maybe by the end of the weekend we’ll have a better idea Billy Williams Jersey ,” manager Craig Counsell said.Soria has a 1.59 ERA in seven games since Milwaukee acquired him in a trade two weeks ago with the Chicago White Sox. In 40 games overall, he is 0-3 with a 2.44 ERA and 16 saves in 20 chances. The Brewers recalled right-hander Adrian Houser from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Soria.Struggling closer Corey Knebel was not available Friday against the Atlanta Braves after giving up four runs, two hits and four walks in the last two games. Counsell said Josh Hader would fill the role. PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates held the Chicago Cubs to one run for a third straight game. This time, the Pirates scored enough to win it.Joe Musgrove cruised through seven innings and the Pirates snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night.Musgrove (5-7) allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. He has gone seven innings and surrendered two runs or fewer in four of his past five starts.“We’ve been throwing the ball really well,” Musgrove said. “The starters have been giving us a chance to win. We got two really good performances in a row from (Ivan) Nova and Trevor (Williams), so you don’t want to give up five or six runs and get rocked, and have that string of good performances end.”Pittsburgh won for the second time in eight games. The first-place Cubs had their three-game winning streak snapped after 1-0 victories in the first two games of the series.Felipe Vazquez retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth inning for his 27th save. The Pirates’ three runs came in the second inning , when Adam Frazier had an RBI double after Josh Bell and Francisco Cervelli walked to start the inning. That ended Pittsburgh’s streak of 24 innings without a run scored.Frazier’s double off Tyler Chatwood (4-6) drove in Bell from second and gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead. A groundout from Colin Moran scored Cervelli before Adeiny Hechavarria hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Frazier to score and make it 3-0.“It wasn’t a whole lot different than the last two nights. It really wasn’t,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. “We gave up three runs in one inning, otherwise you had yourself another 1-0 game. Bullpen was outstanding. Of course, Chatwood struggled. That was obvious. Offensively, we have to get it together on offense.”Musgrove got out of a jam with the Pirates leading 3-1 in the fifth inning. He allowed consecutive one-out singles by Wilson Contreras and Tommy La Stella, but with runners on the corners Fergie Jenkins Jersey , Musgrove struck out Addison Russell and got Ben Zobrist to fly out to end the inning.“He was very, very good,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. “His secondary pitches were top shelf, especially the changeup. The changeup was a swing-and-miss pitch. It was the separator. The fastball played to both sides. The curveball was good. He had command of four pitches.”Chatwood, who has walked 93 batters in 101 2/3 innings this season, lasted just two innings before being pulled after walking Corey Dickerson to lead off the third. He threw 37 pitches (21 strikes) and allowed the three runs on two hits with three walks.“Just keep working. It’s the only thing I can do,” Chatwood said. “I’m fighting myself and I’m trying to beat another team. So , it feels like I’m fighting uphill. All you can do is keep trying to come back and regain the form I had in the past.”Before Chatwood exited, Zobrist homered to right field, cutting the Pirates’ lead to 3-1 in the third.TRAINER’S ROOMCubs: Zobrist replaced OF Ian Happ in the lineup. Happ entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh and reached first on an error by Frazier before taking over in center field in the bottom half of the inning. Happ had one of Chicago’s six hits Friday, but struck out twice in four at-bats.Pirates: After losing 1-0 for a second straight game Friday, Pittsburgh made two lineup adjustments, with Frazier replacing Josh Harrison at second base and Moran taking over for David Freese at third. Harrison, who had an error in the sixth inning Carlos Zambrano Jersey , and Freese were a combined 1 for 7 Friday.UP NEXTCubs: LHP Jose Quintana (10-9, 4.46) will attempt to regain his form when he takes the mound for the series finale against the Pirates on Sunday. In his past four starts, Quintana has allowed at least five runs three times, including in each of his past two appearances.Pirates: RHP Jameson Taillon (9-9, 3.66) will bring momentum from his recent starts when he faces the Cubs on Sunday. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 14 straight starts since surrendering six on eight hits in a 7-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on May 22.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing downhill baseball and moving up the standings.Nick Ahmed homered twice and had four RBIs Marcus Semien Jersey , Steven Souza Jr. drove in three more runs and the Diamondbacks jumped on the San Francisco Giants early for a 9-3 victory on Saturday night.“Just momentum, you score first in the game — I don’t know what the percentages are — but you have much higher likelihood to win the game,” Ahmed said. “We just try to jump out, attack early and have been doing a good job of that lately.”Souza hit a two-run triple and Ketel Marte hit a two-run homer off Andrew Suarez (4-7) in Arizona’s second-straight five-run first inning against the Giants. Arizona leads the majors with 92 first-inning runs and moved a game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West after winning for the third time in four games.Ahmed had run-scoring single in the first, a two-run homer in the fifth and a solo shot in the eighth.“When I talk about downhill baseball, we eliminate a lot of the noise and go out there and play the game the way we know how,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said.Steven Duggar hit his first career home run and Andrew McCutchen had a solo shot for the only runs off Clay Buchholz (5-1), who won his fourth straight start. Buchholz struck out Evan Longoria with runners on second and third in the fourth inning, then put the Giants down in order the next two innings.McCutchen had five hits and two RBIs from the leadoff spot.“The leadoff hitter gets five hits, a home run, RBI double and you think we are in the game , but unfortunately we weren’t,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. The Diamondbacks jumped on starter Chris Stratton for five runs in the first inning of Friday’s win and did the same against Suarez.Souza had a two-run triple and Ahmed followed with a run-scoring single. Marte made it 2-0 with a no-doubt two-run homer to center, his 10th of the season. Marte joins Stephen Drew (three times), Steve Finley (twice) and David Peralta as the only Arizona players with 10 homers and 10 triples in a season.Souza had a run-scoring double that just missed going out in center in the fifth inning. Ahmed followed with a shot to left that did clear the wall for a two-run homer to put Arizona up 8-2.Suarez allowed eight runs on 10 hits in five innings.“I fell behind in the count, they took advantage of it,” Suarez said. “I had some good pitches and they hit them.”Buchholz was sharp except for a couple of breaking balls: One that McCutchen hit for a solo homer in the third inning, another Duggar hit for a solo shot in the fourth.Buchholz allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings.AHMED’S RISEAhmed was known mostly for his glove his first four big-league seasons, hitting no more than nine homers and a career-best of 34 RBIs.The 28-year-old shortstop has found his grove at the plate this season with 16 homers and 57 RBIs. His 16 homers are third in Diamondbacks history by a shortstop, behind Stephen Drew’s 21 in 2008 and Jay Bell’s 18 in 1998.“I feel like he was never satisfied with just being a great defender who was going to put the bat on the ball,” Lovullo said. “He wanted to excel in both areas. He has a really good mindset that he wants to be great. I think that motivates him every day.”GIANTS MOVESSan Francisco recalled RHPs Derek Law and Pierce Johnson from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Saturday’s game, and optioned Stratton and infielder Kelby Tomlinson to the River Cats. Stratton struggled against the Diamondbacks on Friday Reggie Jackson Jersey , allowing six runs on 10 hits in three innings of a 6-3 loss.TRAINER’S TABLEGiants: C Buster Posey was held out of the lineup under concussion protocol after leaving Friday’s game due to a foul ball off his mask. He worked in the field before Saturday’s game and could play Sunday if he remains symptom free.Diamondbacks: Lovullo returned to the dugout after missing Friday’s game due to an illness.UP NEXTArizona LHP Robbie Ray is 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 10 career starts against the Giants heading into Sunday’s season finale. Giants starter Derek Holland is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in three career starts against the Diamondbacks. DENVER (AP) — Kenley Jansen spent the day in the doctor’s office getting checked out for an irregular heartbeat. The conclusion: Nothing definitive yet.The Los Angeles Dodgers closer was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday and manager Dave Roberts wasn’t sure if his absence would be 10 days or possibly even closer to a month — like it was when the right-hander landed on the DL for the same thing seven years ago.“I’m hoping as soon as I can to get something, just for my peace of mind, the guys on the field — our peace of mind,” Roberts said. “His health is most important. Whatever they have to do, the doctors have to do, to protect him.“I know there are things out there as far as a timeline. I haven’t heard definitive as far as any time.”Jansen was at the hotel before the game Thursday against the Colorado Rockies and didn’t feel right. He was taken to a Denver hospital for tests and then sent back to Los Angeles for more evaluation. When Jansen dealt with an irregular heartbeat in 2011, he was sidelined about a month due to his blood thinning medication. Roberts wasn’t sure if Jansen would need the medication again.“If he does, that’s a four-to-six week thing,” Roberts said. “I’m not sure what the protocol is right now.”In 2012, Jansen was out again after suffering an irregular heartbeat during an Aug. 27 appearance in Colorado. He underwent a procedure on his heart on Oct. 23, 2012 , to return it to normal rhythm. The 30-year-old Jansen is tied for the NL lead with 32 saves. In his absence, Roberts will use a closer-by-committee approach. Scott Alexander finished out the ninth in an 8-5 win over the Rockies on Thursday.“If I look at Scott right now, and look at our pen, he’s our highest-leverage reliever,” Roberts said. “At what part of the game is that most impactful to deploy him? That’s kind of how I’ll approach it. After that, to get the last three outs of the game, figure out who matches up best.”Roberts said all eight of his relievers are available to close on any given night.“That’s my story and I’m sticking to it,” Roberts said.To take Jansen’s place on the roster, the Dodgers recalled switch-handed pitcher Pat Venditte from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 33-year-old Venditte has allowed four runs over 4 1/3 innings in five appearances.

PHOENIX — After signing Zack Greinke in late 2015 , the Arizona Diamondbacks made a trade designed to turn them into an instant contender. It did not work as intended, but Atlanta is not complaining. The Braves acquired Ender Inciarte and Dansby Swanson, adding them to a group of veterans and up-and-coming young players who helped make the Braves relevant again.Article continues below ...After finishing a combined 71 games below .500 in the previous three seasons, the Braves have a 3 1/2-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East entering the final game of a four-game series on Sunday in Arizona.Inciarte and Swanson — the principles sent from Arizona to Atlanta for right-hander Shelby Miller in a deal that was widely panned at the time — have helped. Inciarte leads the Braves and is fifth in the NL with 25 stolen bases. Swanson has 55 RBIs for a team that is second in the NL in runs.Miller has missed most of the last two seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery.Swanson threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the Braves’ 5-4, 10-inning victory on Saturday. “Everybody knows the last couple of years have not been the best around here, but to be in this situation now is great,” first baseman Freddie Freeman said. “I’ve been through it all, so this is great when you start winning again. It is kind of like when I just got called up. We were winning all the time. We have the right group of people in this clubhouse to hopefully carry us into the postseason.”Another former Diamondbacks prospect, right-hander Touki Toussaint (1-1), is scheduled to make his third career start Sunday opposite Arizona left-hander Robbie Ray (5-2) as the teams shoot for a series split.Toussaint, like Swanson a Diamondbacks first-round draft pick, was traded to Atlanta in mid-2015 along with veteran right-hander Bronson Arroyo and his $9.5 million contract when management ordered a payroll cut.“It feels great to be a part of this,” Enciarte said. “The goal is to play meaningful games in September. You see new guys, but you see everybody developing quick. It wasn’t bad years at all.“I know the Diamondbacks are in a great position. We are in a good position, too. Both teams are winning, and I know we are happy with what we have. We don’t look back on what happened because we believe everything happens for a reason. We’re here where we want to be, and we want to be a part of this for a long time.”The Diamondbacks begin a seven-game road trip with the opener of a four-game series in Colorado on Monday, part of a schedule that could include a major league-record 17 straight games against division leaders. They play Colorado twice, Houston and the Chicago Cubs in the next two weeks.“September baseball, when you are in a pennant race is pressure enough,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said.“So I don’t want any situation to override how they perform. How do I do that? Different ways with different guys. Distract them. Make them smile. Make them laugh. Make them remember how good they are and how fun the game is when you are doing your job.”Atlanta has seven games remaining against Philadelphia and three against St. Louis.Ray Alex Bregman Jersey , who has a 4.25 ERA in 19 starts, gets the start after his most effective outing of the season, a 6-0 victory in which he struck out 10 and gave up two singles in 6 1/3 scoreless innings.“My last two starts are about as mechanically sound as I’ve felt all year,” Ray said. “It’s a combination of my direction to the plate and my tempo. Just getting the ball back, getting back on the mound and going. I think that’s the biggest thing, not too much time between pitches.” Ray, who missed two months because of an oblique injury, is 2-0 with a 1.02 ERA in his last three starts. He had a good feel for his curveball in the victory over the Padres.“I think I have thrown it more often lately because it is a pitch I feel I can also land (in the strike zone) but also bounce,” Ray said.Ray has lost both of his career starts against Atlanta with a 4.82 ERA.Toussaint beat Miami in his first major league start on Aug. 13 and lost his most recent, an 8-2 defeat to Boston last Sunday in which gave up three runs and struck out six in 4 2/3 innings. He threw four scoreless innings before the Red Sox knocked him out in the fifth.“I haven’t liked him, I’ve loved him,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said.“He’s very impressive young man. Very impressive player. Carries himself very well. Love his assortment. His arsenal is very good. He’s a very athletic kid. He’s handled himself tremendous in the two starts he’s hard here.” Toussaint was 9-6 in 24 minor league starts this season, going 5-0 with a 1.43 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Gwinnett. He has not appeared fazed by being thrust into a pennant race.“He faced the best team in baseball the other day and did a really good job,” Snitker said. “The maturity, the game awareness, how he’s handled himself. The whole thing has been very impressive.” MIAMI (AP) — The Marlins hit Ronald Acuna Jr., again. They couldn’t hit Sean Newcomb, again.Acuna, the dazzling Atlanta rookie, connected on a 432-foot blast for his 21st home run and got hit by another Miami pitch, though tempers stayed in check this time and the Braves went on to beat the Marlins 5-0 on Thursday night. It was the first meeting between the teams since the Aug. 15 game in which Miami starter Jose Urena earned a six-game suspension by plunking Acuna on his first and only pitch Carlos Beltran Jersey , sparking a melee where dugouts from both sides emptied onto the field twice. This time, no hysterics broke out.“In the moment I was a little upset just because obviously I’d been hit before in the previous series and then I got hit tonight,” Acuna said through a translator. “But, you know, those are things of the game.”In the end, it was more of the same for Newcomb and the Braves when they face the Marlins. Newcomb (11-7) allowed two hits and struck out eight in six shutout innings, improving to 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in four starts against Miami this season. Atlanta improved to 13-3 against the Marlins this year, now winning each of the teams’ last seven meetings.“Just going with what’s working against them,” Newcomb said. “I’ve been staying aggressive and it’s been good. And it’s a divisional team, see them a good amount, so it’s one of those teams that you kind of step it up a little bit for.”Charlie Culberson and Ender Inciarte also homered for Atlanta, which remained three games ahead of second-place Philadelphia in the NL East.Marlins starter Elieser Hernandez (2-7) lasted three innings, giving up three hits — two of them homers — and three runs. He was relieved by Jarlin Garcia, who departed with one out in the fifth after Atlanta’s Nick Markakis lined a comebacker into his lower right leg and the ball ricocheted into foul ground on the third-base side.“Jarlin got hit pretty good,” said Marlins manager Don Mattingly, who indicated Garcia may miss some time. X-rays were negative.Acuna got hit in the sixth, with the Braves already up 5-0. Javy Guerra was pitching for Miami, and the first seven pitches he threw were strikes. The eighth wasn’t.Guerra’s 94-mph fastball to Acuna was high and tight, and appeared to hit the Atlanta star around the left wrist. Acuna slammed his helmet to the ground and yelled, but eventually made his way to first without any bench-emptying reprise of what happened in Atlanta last week.“I’d be angry too,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “It hurts. But he did exactly what he should do , go to first.”Guerra said he was merely trying to place a pitch, not hit Acuna.“We move on,” Guerra said. The Braves evened things up on the hit-batter front in the bottom of the sixth.Miami’s Brian Anderson got hit by Newcomb with two out. Braves catcher Tyler Flowers set up way inside — his glove behind Anderson, who took the pitch off the left arm. Home plate umpire Chris Conroy warned Newcomb, then both dugouts, and Anderson went quietly to first.Anderson got hit again in the eighth, this time with a 78-mph curveball from Jesse Biddle around the shin. Again, Anderson went to first without much in the way of extracurricular activity.Mattingly said he doesn’t expect any carryover to the final three games of the series.“It’s over,” Mattingly said.TRAINER’S ROOMBraves: C Kurt Suzuki (bruised left triceps) remained out of the lineup. Flowers started again, and played on three consecutive days for the first time since July 1-3.Marlins: OF Lewis Brinson (right hip) and OF/1B Garrett Cooper (right wrist) are nearing returns from the disabled list, and the Marlins are planning to get them around 100 at-bats in the final month.BRAVOThe Braves (72-55 this season, 72-90 in 2017) are the third MLB team to already match or exceed its win total from last year, joining Philadelphia and Oakland. San Francisco (63-66) is one win shy of matching its 2017 total and Boston (90-39) is three wins away from its mark of a year ago. Barring a massive collapse, this will be Atlanta’s first winning season in five years.CALLUP PLANSMarlins staff will discuss Friday who to call up when rosters expand in September — and they will be giving new faces some exploratory looks. “But you’re also playing teams in playoff hunts, and you’re kind of obligated to play your best team,” manager Don Mattingly said.UP NEXTRHP Mike Foltynewicz (10-7, 2.72) goes for Atlanta on Friday night against Miami and RHP Dan Straily (4-6, 4.60). Foltynewicz is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA against the Marlins this season and 5-1 in his career when facing the Marlins. Straily is 2-1 against the Braves in 2018.

A rapid-fire goal apiece in the opening five minutes has set the tone for an entertaining 2-2 A-League draw between Perth and Western Sydney. Bobby Hull Jersey .It took only 31 seconds for the Wanderers to open the scoring through Nicolas Martinez. The Glory answered four minutes later with an Alexander Grant header from a spot on free kick.A Glory goal in the second half from Andy Keogh was cancelled out for Wanderers by Brendon Santalab as the two teams shared the spoils.Glory now have two wins, two draws and a loss and will take on an unbeaten Sydney FC next Sunday on the road. The Wanderers have just the one win and a loss along with three draws and face Melbourne Victory away on Saturday.Sundays nib Stadium attendance of 13,290 was over six thousand more than at the Test match at the WACA Ground (7207).The Wanderers quickly caught Glory off guard, pushing forward before an incisive pass in-field from Mitch Nichols found Martinez unchecked. He had time to set up his shot and delivered a cracker from well outside the box for Western Sydneys quickest A-League goal. The joy was short-lived with Perth answering thanks to a perfect free-kick from Nebojsa Marinkovic. Grant got on the end of it to head it home to level.Things settled the rest of the first half with Castro for Glory providing the best chances.Glory went ahead just six minutes into the second half. A cross from Chris Harold was palmed away by Western Sydney keeper Andrew Redmayne but Keogh was there to pick up the scraps and tap in his fourth goal of the season. It was then Santalabs turn to nab his fourth of the season to level scores. He was positioned by a pass from Martinez which sliced Perths defence. He had no trouble finishing the 67th minute ball for the final score of the contest.Wanderers coach Tony Popovic was disappointed not to capitalise on the perfect start but getting a goal back late to split the points was pleasing.Well have a look at a few things that we could have done better that probably could have got us three points with the amount of control of the match we had, Popovic said. But we came back from being 2-1 down which is not easy away from home so it was a good point.Glory coach Kenny Lowe was serving the second week of his two-game suspension so was watching on from the stands. Andy Ord was in charge and felt the draw was fitting.I think a draw was a fair result, he said.I dont think we did enough to win it and I dont think they did enough to win, so on the balance of the game we probably got what we deserved. Adam Lowry Jersey . Artturi Lehkonen, Joni Nikko and Ville Leskinen had the other goals for Finland (1-0) while Juuse Saros stopped 28 shots. Tim Robin Johnsgard had the lone goal for Norway (0-2). Shawn Matthias Jersey . He said Tuesday thats a big reason why he is now the new coach of the Tennessee Titans. Whisenhunt said he hit it off quickly with Ruston Webster when interviewing for the job Friday night. . After slipping from the summit during the week, the Gunners overcame struggling Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains second-half brace. Fifteen years into his career as a WWE superstar, John Cena has heard the rumors and assumptions regarding his future. With myriad acting, hosting and marketing opportunities sprouting around him, fans and critics alike have questioned whether the 15-time WWE world champion might soon transition into a part-time wrestling schedule.Further questions abound about whether Cena was ready to follow in the footsteps of Dwayne The Rock Johnson -- whom he calls the ideal example of WWE superstars having talent beyond the WWE ring -- down a road toward full-time crossover into the mainstream.Cena, 39, understands his situation to be unique.Ill answer it like this: Every single day that I dont have an outside obligation, I will fulfill any commitment that I have to WWE, Cena told And I will attach this quote with it that every outside obligation I have is to expand the brand of WWE and there has never been a superstar to say that before.Cenas plate, at the moment, is considerably full. One day after competing in a triple-threat match for the WWE world championship at the No Mercy pay-per-view, he announced a partnership with Wonderful Pistachios on Monday for a new $55 million advertising campaign. As the voice of a new character, Ernie the Elephant, Cena will debut a pair of Get Crackin ads during Monday Night Football and Dancing with the Stars. Later in the football season, he will be joined in two more ads by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. The character has a bit of a sense of humor; hes not afraid to tell you how he feels, Cena said of Ernie the Elephant. So I kind of fit that mold as well.In between WWE live events, Cena has also been travelling to promote his role on E!s new series Total Bellas, a spin-off of its popular Total Divas reality series featuring WWE superstars. Earlier this year, he starred in a series of Hefty trash bag ads and hosted both the 2016 ESPY Awards on ESPN and the first season of the competition reality series American Grit on Fox.Along with his burgeoning acting career, Cena has proven the crossover ability of his personal brand, from Hollywood to Madison Avenue. Hes quick to remind us that it hasnt been an overnight thing. It hasnt been like, Here kid, heres the key to the city, Cena said. Keep in mind it has been a 15-year journey for me and an over 30-year journey for the WWE. I guess my mission statement is now to let the world know on a global scale that WWE certainly is a wonderful form of entertainment but its superstars are more than just superstars inside the ring. They do so much more outside the ring and have so much more to offer.Along with a tireless work ethic, Cena has become a master of corporatespeak, with subtle product references and polished responses meant to protect the interests of both the company and his own brand. It has left no surprise as to why hes so often called upon to represent WWE in a variety of public forums. The self-proclaimed Face That Runs The Place hasnt been shy, either, about promoting his ability to speak Mandarin or his knowledge of WWEs business plans. Cena is a brand ambassador as much as he is a promoter, which is a role he admits that he envisioned for himself from the very first time he stepped into a WWE ring. Its a reflection of passion, Cena said. The Wonderful pistachios campaign is a great example -- I dont involve myself with a project I dont feel passionate about. I could talk your ear off about internal statistics for WWE and what we have planned for the future. Why do I know that stuff? Because I like to do all that stuff. That sort of depth and feel isnt for everybody. Some people just like getting into the ring and doing what they do.Along with his competing passions outside the ring, the idea that Cena was ready for a decreased workload took greater significance at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 in Brooklyn, New York. Following Cenas loss too AJ Styles, he left behind his armband in the center of the ring. Matt Hendricks Jersey. The gesture appeared to be very much symbolic of something greater, akin to when amateur wrestlers leave behind their shoes in the center of the mat following their final match. Moreover, Cena disappeared from WWE television in the subsequent weeks. So was there significance to the gesture that went beyond Cenas on-screen storyline (which included Styles wearing the armband in the aftermath)?Of course there was significance for me in leaving the Never Give Up armband in the ring, Cena said. When pressed for more details, Cena wouldnt budge.Thats for me, man, he said. This is pro wrestling, after all. Its always difficult to tell whether a performer is furthering a scripted storyline when speaking publicly. In Cenas case, there is even more blurring of that line considering hes one of the last WWE superstars to compete under his own given name. While Cena certainly recognizes the advantages of that, hes just as quick to admit the challenges that come with it.There is no off being John Cena, its always on, Cena said. In a way, I think that has helped me, because over the years I have been able to be humble. I have been able to be humiliated in front of the WWE universe in a good way. They have shared in my successes and my failures and it went from 12 years ago this kid trying to make it in the WWE using hip-hop as a vehicle trying to establish an identity to over a decade and a half later everybody just relating to the human being that just is John Cena.Transitioning from a more urban and brash character to the wholesome All-American he portrays today was much more calculated than evolutionary, Cena says. He credits his forward-thinking vision that WWE would soon switch their content to a PG-rated platform (which it did in 2008) and admitted he had become stagnant as The Doctor of Thuganomics. To me, there was definitely some method behind it, Cena said. Hip-hop certainly is in sync with the youth and every day that passes I grow less youthful, as much as I have tried to hold onto it. I knew that the platform really wouldnt be indicative of success. I knew [the PG format] would just drastically change the style and almost cripple the character so I was the one proactively who said no and said I would like to take everything another way.Closing in on age 40, Cena admits that hes working smarter inside the ring and constantly evolving, but that doesnt mean hes holding back on taking risks. He quickly referenced his match with Styles at SummerSlam (praised as one of 2016s best matches), offering it up for folks who need to be critical to go back and watch on the WWE Network.Cenas answers to tough questions are too well-thought out to reveal anything he hadnt planned for, making it difficult to guess just how active he intends to be as a wrestler entering 2017. Hes committed to only choosing outside opportunities that reflect WWE superstars in the best possible light, in an effort to change preconceived notions of pro wrestlers outside of the ring.In July it was announced that Fox had renewed his American Grit series for as second season. He has also taken on more acting roles of late, including appearances in four movies in 2015.As far as his wrestling career, Cena remains committed to giving his all each time he steps into the ring. Its all part of what he calls an eternal promise he has made to himself regarding whether he can still perform at the same level of his peers.Right now the roster is loaded with characters, Cena said. It demands that you perform at your best every single night. I dont believe in shortchanging the consumer. I believe in giving the WWE universe what they want and the day I cant do that is the day I move aside. CLEMSON, S. Pittsburgh Pirates Jerseys .C. -- Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson isnt worried about his teams sluggish start or where he fits into the Heisman Trophy race after week one. He said hes focused on victories, like the one his team picked up in their season opener at Auburn. As a whole the offense, we did a pretty good job, Watson said Monday about his teams closer-than-expected 19-13 win Saturday night. Sometimes, though, we just kind of slipped up.No. 2 Clemson (1-0) plans to fix those bobbles at home Saturday against Troy (1-0).The Tigers left Auburn with 399 yards and 19 points, both down from the nearly 515 yards and 39 points they averaged last year on the way to the national championship game. Watson, one of the leading Heisman contenders, threw for 248 yards and a touchdown -- also off his average passing numbers from 2015.Watson believes the performance has more to do with timing and miscommunication issues than with Auburns defense. And he shoulders the blame. The tempo couldve been better and that starts with me, Watson said. I take responsibility for that, driving the team, driving the offense, making sure everyones getting set and being focused on that play at the moment.Lapses and mistakes were not topics discussed about Clemsons offense this offseason.Led by Watson, the Tigers figured to be a point-a-minute powerhouse, unstoppable by all but the very elite college defenses. It didnt always look that way at Auburn.Clemsons marquee players had their moments. Watson threw the game-winning TD on a pretty 16-yard spiral to Hunter Renfrow in the final quarter. Tailback Wayne Gallman, the schools single-season rushing record holder, gained 123 yards and had a TD. And Mike Williams had nine catches and 174 yards after sitting out last season with a neck injury.Still, it left some, including co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott scratching their heads about the errors.Really, its a humbling experience for our guys to say, `Hey, now we have to go on the field and live up to all the expectations and not focus on what everybodys saying, Elliott said.Elliott said when he looked at the stats coming off the field Saturday night, he was pleased his group got almost 400 yards against a Southeastern Conference. When digging deeper, he circled the missed chances like Williams first-half, mid-field fumble and Watsons interception that kept things tighter than they shouldve been.Weve just got to understand that weve got to get off to a fast start like we always do, Elliott said. We cannot have self-inflicted wounds. We had some critical errors at critical times. It will be the second straight week Clemson and Dabo Swinney face a former Tiger defense coordinator. Last Saturday night, Auburns Kevin Steele had his players geared up to slow down Clemson. This time, its Vic Koenning, who led the defense from 2005-2008, a stretch that included seven games under Swinney, then an interim coach.Troy opened with a 57-17 win over Austin Peay last week. Its just another game, Troy tailback Jordan Chunn said of facing Clemson. Well have to carry (ourselves) the same way, just like we did with Austin Peay, have the same game plan.Watson will take the same approach this week as he has all off season -- largely steering clear of the Heisman hype, his NFL future and the offensive show many expect ever time the Tigers line up. Clemsons players, he said, are better skilled than a year ago. Just wait, Watson says, and the air show will come.We understand what we have and we understand what we can do, Watson said. Just because we didnt put up 500 yards and 40 points doesnt mean that were still not explosive.---AP college football website: Tyler Glasnow Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. David Freese Jersey . Dusautoir, the former World Player of the Year, sustained a torn bicep playing for Toulouse in the Heineken Cup on Saturday. The flanker, who has played 65 times for France, is expected to be out for up to four months. . Jason Zucker and Matt Cooke also scored for Minnesota, which has won five of six. Kuemper made five saves in the first, nine in the second, and nine in the third. The rookies best save came with 2:17 left in the third period when he denied former Wild forward Matt Cullen from just outside of the crease on the right side. Pound the ground was a common theme around college football over the weekend. One running back recorded the most carries by anyone in 13 years, another went over 300 yards and a quarterback rushed for the most touchdowns by anyone at his position this season.Lets start with Texas DOnta Foreman. His 51 rushing attempts in a 24-21 overtime loss to Kansas were a school record and the most in the Bowl Subdivision since Michigans Chris Perry ran 51 times against Michigan State in 2003.Foreman finished with 250 yards, marking his fourth straight game of 250 or more and his 12th straight over 100. But he fumbled twice, with the second one at the Kansas 13 as Texas was trying to put away the game.Foreman built on his national rushing lead. Hes averaging 186.3 yards a game, 20 more than San Diego States Donnel Pumphrey, who was held to 78 yards by Wyoming.West Virginias Justin Crawford joined Foreman and Utahs Joe Williams as the only running backs to go over 300 yards in a game this season. Crawford had 331 on 24 carries in the 56-28 loss to Oklahoma . Like Foreman, Crawford also had a crucial fumble, losing the ball at the OU 4 with his team down 21-0 early in the second quarter.Iowa States Joel Lanning tied the school record with five rushing touchdowns in a 66-10 win over Texas Tech, the most TD runs by a quarterback since Navys Keenan Reynolds had the same number against East Carolina in September 2015.Other top rushing performances: Stanfords Christian McCaffrey broke a 90-yard run, longest in the nation Saturday, and finished with 284 on 31 carries against California; South Carolinas Rico Dowdle had 226 yards against Western Carolina; Florida States Dalvin Cook had 225 yards against Syracuse; and Missouris Damarea Crockett of Missouri had 225 against Tennessee.---Other notable statistical feats:SOMETHING IN THE AIRFreshman Dom Maggio of Wake Forest and Corey Bojorquez of New Mexico each popped 80-yard punts, tied for the third-longest in the nation.Maggios came in the third quarter against Clemson and beat his previous long of 67 yards. Bojorquezs boomer in the secoond quarter was 1 yard off the school record that has stood since 1958 and topped his previous best of 66 yards. Jung-ho Kang Jersey. LONG PLAYSFloridas Austin Appleby and Tyrie Cleveland connected for a 98-yard pass play that tied for the longest in the nation this season. Appleby hit Cleveland with a deep ball from his end zone, the freshman shook off a defensive back at about midfield and ran to the end zone in a game the Gators won 16-10 .The other long play Saturday came on a screen pass from Maryland freshman Max Bortenschlager to D.J. Moore, who took it 92 yards for the Terrapins only touchdown in a 28-7 loss to Nebraska.KICK RETURNST.J. Logans 100-yard kick return against the Citadel was the longest ever by a North Carolina player at the Tar Heels Kenan Stadium. Two visiting players, in 1936 and 2012, had 100-yarders at the stadium. For Logan, it was his second kick return for a touchdown this season and fourth in his career.South Carolinas Deebo Samuel also had a 100-yard kickoff return, against Western Carolina.MR. EFFICIENCYOregon States Marcus McMaryion was a model of efficiency in a 42-17 win over Arizona , completing 16 of 19 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns. His pass efficiency rating of 288.211 was second-best in the nation this season behind Chad Littons incredible 367.225 for Marshall against Morgan State.Oregon State hadnt had a QB throw for five TDs since Sean Mannion in 2013. McMaryion had come into the game with only four TD passes for the season.SACK ATTACKHoustons 11 sacks against Louisville on Thursday were the second-most in program history and pushed the Cougars from 36th in the nation to ninth, with 36. The 11 sacks tie for most in the nation with Utahs 11 against Arizona State.Myles Garrett of Texas A&M had the most sacks individually, recording 4 1/2 against UTSA to more than double his season total. MANHATTAN, Kan. Lenny Dykstra Jersey . -- The first few games of Dean Wades sophomore season showed that he may have fallen into the sophomore slump but on Tuesday night, there were new signs of a slump.Wade had a season-high 13 points and DJ Johnson and Barry Brown added 12 points each to help Kansas State beat Robert Morris 61-40 in a regional round matchup of the Barclays Center Classic.I felt like I was letting the team down by not playing aggressive, Wade said. So tonight I wanted to come out and be as aggressive as I could and still be smart with the ball. The Wildcats (4-0) never trailed and shot 47 percent on 23-of-49 shooting. Wade also grabbed nine rebounds and Johnson had eight.Although Kansas State led the entire game, there were mental lapses for the Wildcats that led to sloppy play after Kansas State jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead.During shoot around, I said we cant leave for New York till tomorrow, Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber said.We have to take care of business today. Today we were very impatient with the ball, you had to keep moving the basketball with guys making different cuts. Its kind of hard to explain.Robert Morris (0-5) shot 23 percent on 13 of 57 shooting and Kansas State was able to separate during the Colonials scoring droughts. On top of their shooting woes, Robert Morris also committed 25 turnovers. The 23 percent shooting was the lowest for a Kansas State opponent since Long Beach State shot 19 percent back in 2013.Isaiah Still led the Colonials in scoring with 10 points on 3-of-17 shooting and Aaron Tate grabbed 11 rebounds.BIG PICTURERobert Morris: The Colonials 25 turnovers were a season high.Kansas State: The Wildcats were the first team this season to hold Robert Morris under 50 points.STAT OF THE NIGHTDespite losing, Robert Morris edged the Wildcats on the boards 40-38.FRESHMAN STANDOUTKansas State freshman Isaiah Maurice came off the bench to grab a season high six rebounds.QUICK COMPAREKansas States DJ Johnson overpowered his Robert Morris counterpart Braden Burke. Johnson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while Burke grabbed eight rebounds but could only muster two points on 1-of-9 shooting.UP NEXTRobert Morris: Robert Morris will finish out their portion of the Barclays Center Classic with Hampton on Friday and then face the winner of Stony Brook and Towson the following night.Kansas State: Kansas State will travel to Brooklyn for two games in the Barclays Center Classic. They will take on Boston College on Friday night. Zack Wheeler Jersey . -- Stanfords Kevin Danser knelt on one knee and hardly moved on the sideline as Michigan State celebrated its Rose Bowl victory and his Cardinal teammates made their way to the locker room. Jacob deGrom Jersey . The 27-year-old Scrivens will be joining his third NHL club since signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2010. The move also reunites with him with head coach Dallas Eakins from their time together with the American Hockey Leagues Toronto Marlies. . - Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie never doubted he would bring back coach Dennis Allen for a third year despite back-to-back 4-12 records. Were almost at the halfway point of the season, the time of year when the top teams in the country start to separate by rising to the top of their conference standings. David Pastrnak Jersey .Clemson has emerged as the clear frontrunner to win the ACC, Washington has proven to be the team to beat in the Pac-12, and Alabama is still ... Alabama. In the Big Ten, the Ohio State-Michigan game cant get here soon enough, and the Big 12 is simply playing from behind, once again depending upon a backloaded league schedule to impress the selection committee when it matters most.In the Group of 5, Houstons top four dreams were shattered on Saturday with an American Athletic Conference West Division loss to Navy.Conference play has that effect, as teams knock each other out of the postseason picture and undefeated ranked teams -- gasp! -- lose. There are still 11 undefeated teams remaining, including nine from the Power 5 conferences. At this point last year, there were 16 unbeaten teams, and only one - Clemson - stayed that way.Can this years Power 5 frontrunners stay the course until Dec. 4 when the College Football Playoff selection committee releases its final ranking? The sport has a tendency to sort itself out.In many ways, it already has.Heres a closer look at the College Football Playoff pecking order heading into Week 7. For more, watch tonights College Football Playoff: Top 25 (ESPN, 7 p.m. ET).Tier I: Alabama stands aloneUntil proven otherwise, Alabama remains king. Not even Ole Miss, which was the only team to beat the Tide in each of the past two seasons, was able to finish the job on its home turf this year. Heres the tricky part: Alabama is beginning its toughest three-game stretch of any season since 2005, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information. The Tide will travel to Tennessee this weekend, come home to face Texas A&M on Oct. 22, then have a bye week to prepare for a road trip to LSU on Nov. 5.According to ESPNs Sharon Katz, an average FBS team would have a .05 percent chance to win all three games, which includes three opponents ranked in the top 12 of ESPNs Football Power Index (two on the road). Alabama isnt exactly average. ESPNs FPI gives the Tide a 29 percent chance to win its next three games. If it does? Alabama stands alone -- again.Tier II: Win and youre inCandidates: Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Washington, Texas A&MThis group likely features the Big Ten champ, Pac-12 champ and ACC champ -- a forecast of three of the top four playoff spots. Add in the SEC champ (See: Tier I) and theres your top four.Only one question here: Whos the Big Ten champ? No, we cant fast-forward to Nov. 26, when Ohio State hosts Michigan, but that will be The Answer to the Big Tens playoff question. Its possible -- but extremely unlikely -- for the runner-up to get into the top four, especially if the other candidates here run the table and win their leagues. According to ESPNs FPI, Clemson has a 36 percent chance to enter bowls undefeated, Michigan 34 percent and Washington 31 percent. We will know a lot more about the Buckeyes on Saturday after their trip to Wisconsin, an opponent Michigan already defeated. And then theres Texas A&M. The Aggies already have wins over UCLA, Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee, but none of it will amount to a top-four spot if the Aggies cant win at Alabama on Oct. 22 (See: Tier I). ESPNs FPI gives A&M a 29.3 percent chance at the upset. If the Aggies can pull it off, it will change the playoff picture instantly.?Tier III: Playoff worthy but needs helpCandidates: LouisvilleThe ACC appears to be the Power 5 conference with the best chance to get two teams in the top four in spite of the Cardinals narrow, thrilling loss at Clemson on Oct. 1. The only reason this scenario isnt far-fetched is because Louisville has looked like a top-four team with Lamar Jackson at quarterback, and its favored to win each remaining game by at least 70 percent. The problem is Houston is the only ranked team remaining on the Cardinals schedule, and Houston just lost to Navy. Now, Houston might not even win its own West Division in the American Athletic Conference. It would still be a respectable win for Louisville, but it wont carry as much weight with the committee as it would have had the Cougars been fighting for a spot in the top four. Louisvilles best hope is not only to win out, but to have another conference champion with a weaker strength of schedule slip up and have two losses.Tier IV: The Power 5 undefeatedsCandidates:?Baylor, Nebraska, West VirginiaBaylor has almost no margin for error, as it faces the same nonconference strength-of-schedule questions it had in the first two years of the CFP. With wins against SMU, Northwestern State and Rice, an undefeated season is the Bears only realistic hope at cracking the top four.Nebraska has quietly gotten off to a 5-0 start, but the Huskers have back-to-back road trips at Wisconsin (Oct. 29) and Ohio State (Nov. 5) -- the only two games on their schedule ESPNs FPI doesnt project them to win. If they escape those trips, its time for a more serious conversation. The same can be said for West Virginia, which has played only one FBS team (Kansas State) with a winning record. If the Mountaineers are still undefeated heading into November, after road trips to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, thats only half the battle. Texas, OU and Baylor still await. Brandon Carlo Jersey .Y. -- Sabres defenceman Tyler Myers had no intention of changing his hard-hitting style before taking part in a disciplinary hearing for his illegal check to New Jersey forward Dainius Zubrus head. Kevan Miller Jersey . William Carrier opened the scoring for Cape Breton (6-4-2), but Andrew Ryan tied the game and Brent Andrews put the Mooseheads (8-6-0) in front for good with a short-handed goal at 13:49 of the second period. . Kozun faked to the forehand and beat Monsters starter, Calvin Pickard, pad side in the second round for the winner. Spencer Abbott also scored in the shootout for the Marlies (25-13-4). MIAMI -- The Marlins walked half a block alongside a hearse carrying their ace away from Marlins Park at the start of a funeral motorcade Wednesday, and then peeled away with watery eyes to go back inside and play a game.Drained by four days of grieving Jose Fernandezs death, they didnt have much left for the New York Mets.Jay Bruce hit his 32nd home run, James Loney also homered and the Mets helped their NL wild-card chances by beating Miami 5-2.New York began the night leading the Giants by half a game and the Cardinals by 1 1/2 games in the race for the two wild-card spots. The Mets conclude the regular season with three games at Philadelphia starting Friday. The Marlins loss in their home finale eliminated them from playoff contention. Despite high hopes this year, they still havent been to the postseason since 2003.That was the last thing on their minds five hours before first pitch. They wore T-shirts reading RIP while clustering around the limousine carrying Fernandezs casket to church for a viewing. Spectators, including Mets players and manager Terry Collins, lined the start of the route. It was terrible, Miami pitcher Tom Koehler said. I never thought Id have to be part of that. You have a 24-year-old who is on top of the world, and were walking behind his hearse. Were watching Miamis hero drive down the street.Added reliever Mike Dunn: You felt like you were pushing off your brother.Sympathetic as they are, the Mets are also in a tight wild-card race. Loney hit a two-run homer in the second, and Bruce added a two-run homer in the fifth. Curtis Granderson went 4 for 4, and Jose Reyes doubled home a run.Seth Lugo (5-2) went 5 1/3 innings and alloowed two runs, both on Martin Prados eighth homer. David Backes Jersey. Four relievers completed a seven-hitter, and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect ninth for his 50th save, most in the majors.Jose Urena (4-9) allowed five runs in five innings, hiking his ERA to 6.13.RECORDSThe Mets finished 12-7 against Miami. The Marlins finished 40-40 at home.GOOD SEATS STILL AVAILABLEThe announced crowd was 24,335. The Marlins finished last in the NL in attendance for the 11th time in the past 12 years, averaging 21,405 per game.PITCHING PLANSAs the Mets chase one of the two wild-card berths, Collins is already weighing potential pitching decisions on the final day of the regular season Sunday, when Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to start. If you wake up Sunday morning and say, `OK, were in, but we dont necessarily have home-field advantage, do we use Syndergaard? Collins asked. Or do we say, `Hes going to pitch the first playoff game, no matter where its at?If the Mets have clinched home-field advantage, they might start Syndergaard on Sunday and have him throw about 25 pitches to ensure hes sharp for the wild-card playoff game on Wednesday.Otherwise he goes eight days without pitching, Collins said.UP NEXTRHP Bartolo Colon (14-8, 3.42) might start Friday on short rest when the Mets open their final regular season series at Philadelphia. RHP Robert Gsellman (3-2, 2.56) is also an option, but Colon threw only 47 pitches when he took the loss Monday against Miami.Marlins RHP Andrew Cashner (5-11, 5.13) will make his final start Friday at Washington.
