DURHAM, N. Wholesale Nike Dunk Shoes .C. -- As she waited for her son to emerge from the Duke locker room, Sherry Allen should have been giddy. The Blue Devils had just beaten Florida State, their sixth win in seven games, and her son, Grayson, again had led his team in scoring with 18 points.Instead, Sherry stood silently, trying to identify the feeling gnawing at her insides. Finally, it hit her. She felt helpless. And the recognition that she couldnt stop what was about to happen to her son and, worse, couldnt prepare him for it practically paralyzed her.I realized that this was going to change him forever, Sherry said recently, recalling that February evening. I also knew he didnt know that. He wasnt going to know until it was too late, until he had the reality of it.What does it feel like to be caught in the social media storm known as going viral? To the Allens, it was like being swept up in a tidal wave. In a matter of 17 days, Grayson Allen went from a mild-mannered, Bible verse-tweeting potential All-American to the biggest villain in college basketball. He did this to himself, purposefully tripping two opponents. First it was Louisvilles Ray Spalding on Feb. 8, then Florida States Xavier Rathan-Mayes on Feb. 25. The first incident was surprising; the second incomprehensible, a pattern of dirty behavior that no longer could be written off as a Did he or didnt he do it intentionally? debate. No, he did it, with his right foot out, left heel up. It turned Grayson Allen into a trending topic on Twitter, an ignominious YouTube sensation and the topic of conversation around the country.I cant blame people for saying what they did, Grayson said. I probably would have said the exact same thing. Now, with a new college basketball season around the corner, the Allens are waiting with trepidation to learn the statute of limitations on 2016 basketball crimes. When does last years viral video disappear? It is time, Sherry said, to put it to rest.Of course, she knows better. Sherry knows neither she nor anyone in her family gets to call a moratorium on the Grayson Allen tripping conversation. Her son now knows that, too. He understands he cannot undo what has already been done. He also knows some opinions of him will never change.I know theres never completely a blank slate, Grayson said. Thats going to be replayed and not forgotten about. But for me, every opportunity I get to step on the court is an opportunity to play the game again and play the game the right way. And, if after all of that, people choose to like him or loathe him, Grayson Allen isnt terribly concerned. He just hopes they will come to know who he really is.Instead of who they think he is.SO IMAGINE you live your entire life doing the right thing. You make good grades and star on the basketball court to earn a scholarship to Duke. You parlay that into?spots on the All-American team and the Academic All-American team.Youve been on the planet for 20 years, or the equivalent of 630,000,000-plus seconds, and despite all that good, all of those achievements, the two worst nanoseconds of your life have come to define you. This is what haunts Grayson Allen and his family. He is ashamed of himself. Not in that fake, must-give mea cupla kind of way, in which he simply says, Im sorry. I made a mistake. I take responsibility. Of course hes sorry and knows what he did was wrong. Thats the easy part. Dealing with the embarrassment? Thats what causes him to twist his fingers into pretzels and choose each word carefully and deliberately as he sits with ESPN for on- and off-camera interviews earlier this month. Its the enormity of it all thats still causing him so much distress. His teammates tried to brush it off. Freshman Frank Jackson cracked a joke about Allens little tripping problem. Senior Amile Jefferson said it was all merely because people are going to talk, adding that, when youre one of the best players in the country, any story they can have on you, especially when its negative, theyre going to put it out there. But they werent him. They werent the one caught in the crosshairs. He was. Allen spent a lifetime building a reputation as a person of high character, only to see it all disintegrate with two kicks of his feet. It wasnt his teammates, either, who put Mike Krzyzewskis own scruples under the microscope, with people questioning how a man of such high moral standards refused to even suspend his star player. No, Allen had to deal with that. And his teammates didnt have to face their parents after that Florida State game. He did. He had to come face to face with the reality that he hadnt just embarrassed himself; he disappointed them.It was a lot, Grayson said, letting the simple words hang before continuing. That was an emotional moment, an emotional night for me after that game.Allen holed up in his room for days. His parents called repeatedly telling him theyd get through it, to let it go and move forward. But thats so hard to do when its on every sports channel, even in our local newspaper here (in Jacksonville, Florida), Sherry said.Following the first kicking incident, an story?examined?if Allen would be the next hated white player from Duke. The story linked Allen to Christian Laettner and J.J. Redick, two villains who, unlike Allen, came before him and embraced the hate.I didnt exactly help my own cause, Allen said. The fervor trailed him through the rest of the season, chasing him like a recurring nightmare. Away games were awful, neutral-court NCAA crowds only marginally better. Social media was especially cruel. Most of the time when things like this happen, youre watching someone else on TV or seeing something on Twitter about someone else, he said. Theres always something going on with Twitter, and youre watching it like, Oh its this person. And then all of a sudden its you, and it feels completely different. He avoided all of his accounts as best he could, but hes a college student, drawn to the social flame like a helpless moth. He couldnt avoid the media scrutiny, foregoing the no comment route and instead answering the same questions over and over. He offered no excuses because he really didnt have one.Even now, months later, Allen doesnt have an explanation for his behavior. He likens it to a moment in middle school when an opposing mom hissed miss it during his free throws. After he made his free throws, he couldnt help himself -- he stuck his tongue out at her as he ran back down court.Except then he was 12.On a much larger scale, this was exactly the same thing, Allen said. Its definitely the same feeling, the Did I really just do that? Like, youve got to be kidding me. You are so much smarter than that.HIS HOPE NOW is that maybe, in some twisted way, this will help him.Hes a master at challenging himself. Always has been. His mother recalls a kindergarten-aged boy who would frantically write, erase and rewrite his numbers and letters until they perfectly matched up with the dots on the paper provided. Today, thanks to doubling down on courses, Allen will be within enough credits of earning his degree that he will be permitted to walk at graduation, a full year early. As a kid, a shoeless -- and occasionally sockless -- Allen would spend hours alone on his Florida driveway shooting baskets, perfecting his shot until the net barely moved when the ball slashed through it. Now he enters his third season just 68 points shy of 1,000 at Duke. While hes driven, Allen is not one to naturally court attention. Hes more a natural-born introvert who describes his off-court personality as timid. When the ebullient Duke freshman Harry Giles walked in for his interviews last month, everyone knew hed arrived in the room. Allen almost snuck in. Thats how he likes it. His teammates say he is one of the best at video games. Yet when given the chance to boast about his skills, the best Allen can come up with?is: Id like to take the top claim on that. Its only on the basketball court that he truly comes out of his shell. The same person who sneaks into a room happily unnoticed is impossible to ignore once he crosses the lines. He plays with a recklessness that borders on foolishness, a self-assuredness that could be misconstrued as cockiness. But that fire only burns internally, fueling him to play harder and work harder but not necessarily inspiring others to do the same. Krzyzewski, in fact, challenged Allen at the start of last season to stop being so selfish with his passion and use it instead to challenge his teammates. Allen became better, but leadership remained an uncomfortable, unnatural fit. Given his druthers, Allen would somehow be the best and let someone else be in charge. The harsh glare of the spotlight forced him out of his comfort zone.?Our boy is definitely growing up, William Allen said of his son.And now, given all that he has been through in his relatively short time at Duke, Grayson can lend some guidance to a freshman class loaded with talent and the burden of expectation. It wasnt a smooth ride to get here to my junior year, he said. I couldnt really tell those guys, teach them about adversity or anything like that if its something I didnt go through. I think now I can talk to them a lot more.THEY WANT to move on. Not just the Allens. Ray Spalding and Xavier Rathan-Meyes would like to as well. When asked to talk about their individual encounters, Allens victims both declined. Each said through athletics department officials that they harbored no ill will toward Allen. As far as they were concerned, the whole thing was in the past. What will it take for everyone else to feel the same? A season without incident??If Grayson Allen cant get that blank slate, what then can he do to at least get a second chance? His mother knows the answer, only this time its not making her feel helpless.Weve moved forward because we know what kind of player he is and what kind of person he is, she said. Now he just needs the chance to show everyone else.A little dose of the real Grayson Allen. Not just the viral one. SYRACUSE, N. Cheap China Jerseys .Y. -- After several tough losses, including an overtime heartbreaker against No. 3 Clemson, North Carolina State is now poised to go to a bowl. All they need is one more win.Matt Dayes ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns, and the NC State defense held Syracuse to 218 yards in a 35-20 victory on Saturday. The resiliency of our football team, losing four of our five games by a possession, theyve been able to stick together. Im really proud of them today, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren said. This gets that carrot in front of their nose for the bowl opportunity. You want to feel the pleasure of your work and you cant do that by almost winning. This gives them the satisfaction of the grind and they needed that today.I feel very confident about our bowl chances, added defensive end Bradley Chubb. We have two opportunities and need just one more win.Ryan Finley was 20-of-29 for 340 yards and one touchdown for the Wolfpack (5-5, 2-4 ACC). Kelvin Harmon had 101 yards receiving and one touchdown and BraLon Cherry had seven receptions. Dayes scored on runs of 7, 20, and 13 yards. The Wolfpack defense held the Orange, 113th nationally in rushing, to just 28 yards on the ground and 190 yards passing.Syracuse (4-6, 2-4) played without sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey, who was hit in the head/shoulder area during the first quarter of a 54-0 loss to No. 3 Clemson last weekend. Dungey, third in the ACC and 16th nationally in passing yards, was replaced by junior Zack Mahoney. Dungey practiced during the week but was not cleared by the teams medical staff.Obviously, we were at a disadvantage without Eric Dungey being able to participate, said Syracuse coach Dino Babers. Before the Clemson game, I think he was ranked in the top 10 quarterbacks in the country. Obviously, we missed him a great deal out there. There wouldve been a lot of things that we couldve taken advantage of.The Orange was also without starting wide receiver Steven Ismael who dressed but not play. Ishmael has 41 receptions this season.Mahoney, a walk-on who was awarded a scholarship before the 2016 season, led the Orange to a touchdown on their first drive. He was 5-of-6 passing, including a 12-yard completion to Erv Philips on fourth down. But the Orange offense bogged down the rest of the half, managing just a 48-yard field goal by Cole Murphy.Mahoney finished 13-of-24 for 190 yards, a touchdown and interception. Amba Etta-Tawo caught three passes for 84 yards and one touchdown.THE TAKEAWAY:NC State: The Wolfpack can qualify for a bowl game by winning one of their remaining games against Miami or No. 15 North Carolina.Syracuse: With the status of Eric Dungey uncertain, the Orange will have a tough time getting to six wins with games against Florida State and at Pitt.UP NEXT:NC State: The Wolfpack returns home for a contest against Miami on Saturday.Syracuse: The Orange has its work cut out for it with a matchup against the No. 19 Florida State on Saturday. The Blazers pressured, coming within 94-93 late after Lillard made a pair of free throws.Harden finished with five 3-pointers.Right now were not getting it done on the defensive end, Lillard said. I think thats what it comes down to. You look at the Cleveland game, we scored 120-something points and we lose. Thats a lot of points to score and not win the game. Tonight we had 114 and we lose. MIAMI -- LeBron James can rest as long as he wants. Cheap Jerseys . Hes now a two-time NBA champion -- and a two-time Finals MVP. After two years of almost-constant basketball, James still found a way to be at his absolute best in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. He scored 37 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and simply controlled everything down the stretch, as the Heat won the title with a 95-88 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night. "This is what its all about," James said. "I came here to win championships and to be able to go back to back, two championships in three years, so far, its the ultimate." Two days after helping the Heat survive a wild Game 6 in overtime, James final numbers went like this: 12 for 23 from the field, 5 for 10 from 3-point range, 8 for 8 from the line. And in a season where he was the leagues MVP for a fourth time, hes now added a second ring to the collection. Suddenly, his resume is looking as complete as some of the other all-time greats. Nor should he. Heres a club: He joined Michael Jordan and Bill Russell as the only players in league history to win back-to-back Finals MVP and regular-season MVP awards. "Listen, I cant worry about what everybody says about me," James said, as confetti fell around him. "Im LeBron James, from Akron, Ohio, from the inner city. Im not even supposed to be here. Thats enough. Every night I walk into the locker room, I see a No. 6 with James on the back, Im blessed. So what everybody says about me off the court, dont matter. I aint got no worries." Dwyane Wade scored 23 points and won his third NBA title. Shane Battier -- benched earlier in these playoffs -- had 18 on six 3-pointers and said "its better to be timely than good," afterward. Mario Chalmers scored 14 for the Heat, who won despite no points from Chris Bosh. It didnt matter. James was good enough to mask any problem the Heat had Thursday night. A series that started with three games of the Spurs supposedly bottling him up and solving the riddle of how to stop the MVP ended with him doing pretty much whatever he wanted. "It became time," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He always rises to the occasion when it matters the most, when the competition is fiercest." He rarely acknowledges this much, but James has to be exhausted. He worked out furiously during the lockout in 2011, in part because he convinced himself that the season would begin on time, in part because he was still smarting from how sub-par he played during the Finals loss to the Mavericks in his first season with the Heat. Last season began on Dec. 25, 2011. The Heat went through the rigours of that ultra-compacted 66-game schedule and won a title. James went right into training with USA Basketball, eventually helping that team win a gold medal at the London Olympics. After that, he took about two weeks off, then starting getting ready for this season, which went all the way down to the last possible day. Thats more basketball, under more pressure, than anyone else on the planet in the last two years. James took all the criticism when the Heat lost those 2011 finals. He took all the criticism in 2010 as well, when the Heat welcomed him and Bosh as Wades newest star teammates with a star-studded party that was planned long before James made his infamous "decision" to sign with the Heat. Now hes won two titles, and refuses to take all the credit. "All its about now is whats in front of us," Heat President Pat Riley said. "Not whats behind us. I wish people would stop talking about that. Hes been to the Finals three years in a row. Hes won two championships, two MVPs. He definitely controlled the game tonight. I believe in LeBron." There he was, a championship at stake, taking the jumper with 27.9 seconds left that made it a two-possession game and put the Heat on the cusp of a repeat. He marched back to the Heat huddle, punching the air. The score was 92-88, everyone in the sold-out building seemed to be standing, and a championship celebration was mere moments away. Sure enough, it happened. "I put a lot of work into it and to be able to come out here and see the results happen out on the floor is the ultimate, the ultimate," James said. "Im at a loss for words." Two years ago, James probably wouldnt have taken that shot. Now, theres no way he would not. And he drilled it, too, the ball going through with a soft swish for his 34th and 35th points. "What he brings every night is unbelievable," Wade said. James arrived at the arena in a convertible on Thursday, waving to the fans who were waiting to take a photo. An hour or so later, standing at his locker, he tried to insist that Game 7 was obviously huge but would have to be treated really like any other game. In short, that was his way of saying that he cannot change the way he plays now. Then he went out and did what he does best, making the right plays, hoping they become winning plays. "He only plays one way," said Maverick Carter, James longtime friend and associate. "He plays the right way." On the possession after James made the jumper for the four-point late lead, he got into the passing late and intercepted a ball thrown wildly by San Antonios Manu Ginobili with 23.5 seconds left and was immediately fouled. The first free throw went in, and James stepped off the line to set up Miamis defence. The second free throw dropped as well, and James made a beeline for Ginobili, dribbling upcourt. Ginobili took a 3-pointer that the regular-season MVP contested, and it sailed well wide of the rim. That was the Spurs last gasp. It was over. The Heat reign will continue for another year, and so will James spot as the unquestioned best player in the world. "This is the hardest series we ever had to play," Wade said. "This is what its all about." Including playoffs, the Heat became just the 10th team in NBA history to win at least 80 games -- they won 82 this season. And like the other nine, the Heat won it all. James will be getting married this summer. ("Now its going to be one the best weddings ever," James said.) Another ring ceremony awaits him this fall when Miami tries for a three-peat. And a season that began with the addition of Ray Allen to a championship core, saw a 27-game winning streak, even a "Harlem Shake" video that broke up some needed midseason tension, it ended with Miami in the same place it was a year ago -- on top of the basketball world "They pushed us to the limit," James said. Near the limit, maybe. James fended off everything the Spurs threw at him. "Credit to the Miami Heat," Spurs forward Tim Duncan said. "LeBron was unbelievable. ... We just couldnt find a way to stop him." Cheap NFL Jerseys China . 10 Texas A&Ms offence dominated as usual against SMU. China NFL Jerseys Authentic . The defence is doing its part, too. ATLANTA -- Ted Roof is looking to solve Georgia Techs abysmal rankings in takeaways and third-down stops.Roof, in his fourth season as defensive coordinator, knows those will be keys when the Yellow Jackets play Duke on Saturday.Roof had a record of creating big plays with his aggressive defenses at Minnesota, Auburn and Penn State before his return to Georgia Tech, his alma mater, in 2013.This year has been a struggle. Georgia Techs six takeaways are the fewest in the Atlantic Coast Conference and rank 119th in the nation.Roof, Dukes coach from 2003-07, said his coaching emphasis on creating turnovers is as strong as ever.If I had an answer for you Id give it to you and better yet wed do it, more importantly, Roof said Monday. Weve just got to keep trying. If you just stay after it and stay after it one day it happens and one (turnover) can lead to two and two can lead to three. The Yellow Jackets 126th-ranked third-down defense was a focus of coach Paul Johnsons weekly news conference on Tuesday. Opponents have been successful on almost half of third downs (50 of 101).Weve got to be better on third downs and try to get off the field, Johnson said. Weve beat that horse to death, but thats the bottom line. ... The Yellow Jackets defense played well in allowing only 31 combined points in wins over Boston College, Mercer and Vanderbilt to open the season.Their defense obviously has some special components about it, said Duke center Austin Davis, who added the defense is overshadowed by the constant focus on Georgia Techs spread-option offense with its triple-option plays.Everyone always thinks Georgia Tech triple option, Davis said. ... Georgia Techs defense doesnt get as much credit as they should.More credit would come with attention-grabbing big plays. So far the defense has three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Defensive tackle Patrick Gamble has three sacks. He focused a majority of his message thanking friends and fans for their support, and specifically singled out former teammate, center Eric Wood.

Incognito referred to Wood as a pillar of the community and added: "When I would have a dark day Cowboys Dalton Schultz Jersey , he was a bright shining light that helped me through. I owe him a lot."

Incognito also thanked the Bills and team owners Terry and Kim Pegula for providing him an opportunity to resurrect his career. The Bills signed Incognito in January 2015 after he spent 18 months out of football following his role in the Miami Dolphins' bullying scandal.

He referred to his three seasons in Buffalo as being some of his fondest memories.

Incognito then closed his message by saying he hopes to sign with another team so that he can come back to Buffalo to beat the Bills, before adding a smiling face emoji wearing sunglasses.

The 34-year-old Incognito has had a tumultuous offseason.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff turned their focus to defense in the second and third rounds of the NFL draft Friday night Authentic Anthony Miller Jersey , adding depth with cornerback Isaiah Oliver and bringing aboard a potential starter in 300-pound tackle Deadrin Senat.

Defensive tackle was the team's biggest need heading into the second day after Dontari Poe left as a free agent last month for Carolina, but Atlanta decided first to go with a cornerback, a position that was thinned after Jalen Collins, a second-round pick in 2015, played less than two full seasons after violating drug-testing rules.

Oliver, chosen in the second round at 58th overall out of Colorado, will slot in behind starting corners Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford. Named first-team All-Pac 12 despite missing two games with a leg injury, Oliver had two interceptions and 15 passes defended last season.

"We think that he has some of the best ball skills in the draft, hands down Steelers Cheap Jerseys ," Dimitroff said. "He's a very talented, all-around versatile athlete."

Oliver worked out for the Falcons last month at Colorado and felt he impressed the team.

"I would say it's just my athleticism along with my refined technique," Oliver said. "That's something I've always worked on these last three years, especially just the little things 鈥?at the line of scrimmage, where I have my eyes, where I have my arms. I just try to make those things as crisp as possible to help me out on game day."

Atlanta used the 90th overall pick to get an interior pass rusher. Senat, a 6-foot-1, 314-pound senior from South Florida, had six sacks in 12 games. He will compete with veteran Jack Crawford for the starting job alongside defensive line leader Grady Jarrett.

"We're going to put him at nose tackle Adidas Nico Hischier Jersey ," Quinn said. "He's got really good quickness for a big guy."

Under first-time coordinator Marquand Manuel last season, the Falcons' defense was better than the year before, moving into the top 10 in scoring and total yards for the first time at the end of the regular season the 1998 Falcons advanced to the Super Bowl.

The difference came in giving up less explosive plays. Atlanta improved 15 spots to rank No. 8 in passes allowed of at least 20 yards and went from 25th to No. 2 in runs allowed of at least 20 yards.

The Falcons' first-round pick, former Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley toured team headquarters earlier in the day, taking pictures with Quinn and Dimitroff and showing off his new No. 18 jersey.

Ridley, drafted No. 26 overall, was the second receiver picked in the first round, two spots after Maryland's D.J. Moore went to Carolina.

Ridley insists his chief concern was getting drafted by a team that will let him fit in quickly, but he's also ready to prove that a lot of clubs were mistaken to pass him up.

"I definitely can play in and outside Baker Mayfield Browns Jersey ," Ridley said. "I just want to prove the doubters wrong, you know, that I am the best receiver in the draft, that I am a great player and that I can walk into any situation and be a great player."

Ridley gives the passing attack fills a big need 鈥?a second deep threat to pair with Julio Jones, a two-time All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowl selection. Mohamed Sanu is a strong veteran presence as a possession receiver, but Atlanta wants to take some pressure off Jones while wearing down a secondary.

Quinn believes Ridley has just the right mix of game-changing speed and underestimated strength at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.

"The main reason is he can really get lateral," Quinn said. "He can really break. He's hard to press because of that ability, but he's more wiry strong than small. He's not little. He's not big. He's just strong."

The offense needed a spark after dropping from first to 15th in scoring last year as opponents held Jones to just three touchdowns and the running back tandem of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman missed time with concussions.

The New York Jets have claimed kicker Nick Rose off waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers , giving free-agent signing Cairo Santos some camp competition this offseason.

The team also announced Monday that safety Rontez Miles and tight end Neal Sterling have signed their restricted free agent tenders, and wide receiver Brisly Estime has been waived.

Rose spent last summer with San Francisco before being among the 49ers' final cuts. He kicked in eight games for the Redskins and two for the Chargers, going 11 of 14 on field goals and 23 of 26 on extra points. He was waived by Los Angeles last Friday. Rose was originally signed by Atlanta in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas, but was cut during training camp.

The Jets signed Santos to a one-year, $2 million deal in March after allowing Chandler Catanzaro to leave as a free agent.

Miles led the Jets last season with 26 special teams tackles in 13 games and served as Lachlan Edwards' punt protector. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of California University of Pennsylvania, Miles has 105 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles in his NFL career.

Sterling had six receptions for 82 yards in 11 games during his first season with the Jets. The former Monmouth star played his first two seasons with Jacksonville.

Estime spent last season on injured reserve after tearing an Achilles during organized team activities. He was signed last spring as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse.

Matt Ryan pulled out his secret weapons to seal the five-year contract extension that made him the NFL’s highest-paid player.

Ryan brought his infant twin boys , Marshall and John, to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank’s office on Friday, when the deal was signed.

”Tough negotiators,” a smiling Ryan said Monday.

The twins, born on April 8 following a complicated pregnancy for Ryan’s wife, Sarah, and the new contract are reasons for Ryan to have an optimistic new focus on his future.

The extension announced on Thursday is worth at least $100 million , a league record, and could be worth as much as $150 million.

Ryan has been the figurehead of the Falcons during their most successful 10-year run in franchise history. He says he sees the contract as an incentive for the future instead of a reward for leading the team to six playoff seasons, including the Super Bowl run in 2016 Authentic Josh Sitton Jersey , when he was named NFL MVP.

”We’ve had some really good teams,” Ryan said. ”But I think the best is in front of us and that’s what has me so excited about my future here and our future as an organization, that we have a lot of really good pieces in place.”

Ryan said when he was drafted in 2008 it was his hope ”to be the quarterback that a franchise leans on for a long time, 15, 20 years. That’s kind of still where my head is at.”

Before the extension, Ryan, who turns 33 on May 17, could have been a free agent after the 2018 season.

The threat of Ryan entering free agency could have been the biggest story of training camp. That was a distraction Ryan and the Falcons were eager to avoid.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff described the extension as ”our primary focus this offseason.”

Now Ryan can focus on football instead of finances as he prepares for the 2018 season.

”I’m happy with the timing of it,” Ryan said. ”I think the organization is very happy with the timing of it. Certainly when we get back to training camp it’s 100 percent about football. … I always felt confident it was going to get done in a smooth way and in a timely manner and I feel like it did.”

There was little question the Falcons would keep Ryan, who has helped to reshape the perception of the franchise.

Before the Ryan era Jason McCourty Color Rush Jersey , the Falcons had only eight playoff seasons in 42 years, and none in back-to-back years. With Ryan, the Falcons have made the playoffs in six of 10 years, including the 2016 Super Bowl run.

The contract extension brings continued stability for an offense that also returns wide receivers Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu and running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Dimitroff gave the offense a boost by making wide receiver Calvin Ridley its first-round draft pick last month.

Like Jones, Ridley is from Alabama.

”I guess I’m an honorary Alabama quarterback now,” Ryan said. ”… I’m very excited about Calvin coming here.”

Ryan’s new deal topped the total compensation of the $84 million, three-year guaranteed deal that quarterback Kirk Cousins received from the Minnesota Vikings.

Someday, Ryan will be able to show his twins a photo taken by the Falcons of the day they were in the room when he signed the extension.

”It was a special day for our family,” he said. ”I was excited that they were there. That will always be a great memory for us but also a really cool picture for me to be able to show them when they get older. They won’t remember it, but I’ll tell them I was OK at one point.”

The nerves weren’t quite so bad this time. The jitters Tyquan Lewis Jersey Colts , a touch less.

The stuff? Well, that didn’t change a bit for Milwaukee rookie pitcher Freddy Peralta. The 22-year-old handcuffed the Pittsburgh Pirates over six shutout innings and the Brewers held on for a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night.

Peralta (2-0) struck out seven without issuing a walk in his third career start, looking very much like the kid who tied a franchise record by striking out 13 in his major league debut last month. The Brewers sent him down to the minors after his second start to work on his control and he appeared to be firmly in command against the Pirates.

”It was normal, you know,” Peralta said. ”It’s always, work, you know? I was comfortable today with everything: my pitches, the guys behind me, everything.”

Jesus Aguilar finished 2 for 3 and drove in all three runs off Jameson Taillon (4-6). Aguilar hit a two-run shot to the seats in right-center in the first and doubled down the line in left field in the third.

”It was important, especially for Peralta, to just give him a lead right away. That way he feels confident,” Aguilar said.

Corey Knebel worked around a two-out walk in the ninth for his seventh save for the first-place Brewers, who ended a three-game losing streak.

Starling Marte hit his ninth home run of the season in the eighth off Milwaukee reliever Jeremy Jeffress to pull Pittsburgh with one. Jordy Mercer had an RBI double in the seventh but Pittsburgh’s offense mustered little with Peralta on the mound.

The 22-year-old attacked the Pirates high in the strike zone and threw 62 of his 99 pitches for strikes. Only Marte seemed able to generate solid contact. He reached second in the first when Milwaukee right fielder Eric Thames couldn’t handle a drive that bounced off his glove near the wall.

Peralta retired Moran on a lineout and settled in.

”He made pitches Jeremiah Attaochu Jersey 49ers ,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. ”Kept us off balance with the curveball. Attacked. Very aggressive. Good downhill angle from a guy who’s not tall in stature. He pitched a lot taller than he was height-wise, and got after it.”

Taillon, coming off a solid outing in a win in Arizona last week, had plenty of swing-and-miss stuff – he recorded seven strikeouts in five innings – but had no answer for Aguilar. Lorenzo Cain led off the game with an infield single and two batters later Aguilar put one in the seats to put Milwaukee up 2-0.

”Jesus is a good hitter,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. ”He’s been a good hitter since the day we got him. I think he’s improving. He’s a hitter that understands pitching. He understands what they’re trying to do to him. He’s got experience now against the league a little bit. The league’s kind of adjusted to him and he’s been able to adjust back.”

A nearly identical sequence happened in the third. Cain reached on an infield hit and Aguilar laced the ball to left with Cain easily beating the throw home.

”Both times hanging breaking balls to Aguilar after an infield hit, he did what he should have done with them,” Taillon said.

Pirates reliever Steven Brault moonlights as the front man in a rock band called The Street Gypsies. He found himself in front of a microphone on Tuesday night, only this time the audience wasn’t a night club but PNC Park. The 26-year-old belted out “The Star-Spangled Banner” before first pitch, delivering on a promise he made to his grandmother.

”I think it went pretty well,” Brault said. ”I was a little more nervous than I thought I would be leading into it. I was fine, and then when I started singing, I was like `Oh, this is pretty cool.”’

Brewers: RHP Zach Davies (right rotator cuff inflammation) was scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday night.

Pirates: OF Austin Meadows was held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game while dealing with a right foot injury suffered when he fouled a ball off it on Sunday. Meadows entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh and struck out to end the inning with runners on second and third.

Brewers: Brent Suter will make his first career start against the Pirates in the series finale on Wednesday. Suter is 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA in his last six starts and 7-4 with a 4.30 ERA overall.

Pirates: Chad Kuhl (5-3 Authentic Vincent Trocheck Jersey , 3.76) is unbeaten against Milwaukee, going 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA. The Pirates are 6-0 overall in games Kuhl has started against the Brewers.

Fantasy football players who miss out on the elite quartet of running backs can still make a pair of moves to boldly position for a championship.

Selecting Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the first round isn’t shocking. After all, Hopkins comes off a 2017 season that saw him catch 96 passes for 1,378 yards and 13 touchdowns. Over the past three seasons, Hopkins has been targeted a whopping 518 times despite the offensive struggles of the Houston offense.

It’s taking Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson next where pencils and jaws will drop.

Running backs have regained the upper hand atop most drafts and sound logic suggests waiting until the fourth or fifth round to consider a quarterback in standard leagues. In this case, throw logic aside and step out of the safe zone to roll the dice on what will be the best pass-catching duo available. Even with questions about his surgically-repaired knee, Watson is that good and has the potential to outpoint any running back not named Todd Gurley II, Le’Veon Bell, David Johnson or Ezekiel Elliott.

High risk move? Why, yes, yet Watson averaged 43.2 fantasy points in his last five starts before tearing an ACL. Watson threw all but one of his 19 touchdown passes in that span, with six of those going to Hopkins, who averaged 95.6 yards and 9.4 targets per contest. With Watson at the helm Christian Kirk Jersey Cardinals , Hopkins averaged 16.2 fantasy points per game, giving them a combined total of 59.4 fantasy points between the duo.

Cornering the market on a QB-WR combo that potent is worth the risk, especially when fantasy players consider that the Texans open the regular season with five straight games against opponents (at Patriots, at Titans, vs. Giants, at Colts, vs. Cowboys) that were 21st or worse in fantasy points allowed to opposing receivers. In a potential fantasy playoff scenario in Weeks 15 and 16, Houston gets the Jets (19th) and Eagles (24th), giving the gamble even more appeal.

Missing out on the top two tiers at running back means following up the Hopkins-Watson combo with a receiver such as Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals (or a tight end like the Eagles’ Zach Ertz or Travis Kelce of the Chiefs), bolstering the team in a PPR format. The fourth round will unearth a solid back or two like Jordan Howard of the Bears.

If Watson is healthy and the Texans offense is that good, a fantasy title could be in sight.

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez (groin) will be out until late August, leaving his fantasy baseball owners in a major bind. There is some relief on the waiver wire, as Pirates backstop Elias Diaz has emerged as a solid hitter (.286 batting average Seahawks Byron Maxwell Jersey , seven homers, 25 RBIs) and Omar Narvaez of the White Sox is quietly hitting .285 with modest power numbers.

There no such thing as completely replacing Sanchez, yet Diaz and Narvaez provide reasonable options to keep production sound behind the plate.

Youngster Erik Jones ($9,600/FanDuel, $8,400/DraftKings) snapped his four-race streak of top-10 finishes when he placed 16th in last week’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire but has a good opportunity to start anew in Sunday’s Gander 400 in Pocono. Jones comes into the weekend having scored at least 21 points in seven of his last nine races.

Jones, who won at Daytona earlier this month, is a good sleeper pick as he seeks to end what has been an impressive July.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will miss the first four games of the 2018 season for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

NFL officials confirmed Tuesday that Edelman would be suspended without pay for the Patriots' first four regular-season games. ESPN had reported last month that Edelman was facing a four-game suspension.

Edelman Arden Key Color Rush Jersey , 32, missed the 2017 season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament. He had 98 receptions in 2016, the third time in a four-year stretch that he caught over 90 passes.

Edelman will miss a home game against Houston, trips to Jacksonville and Detroit, plus a home game against Miami.

He will be eligible to return to the Patriots' active roster on Oct. 1, enabling him to make his 2018 debut Oct. 4 against Indianapolis.

Managing expectations isn't usually one of the top tasks for NFL teams coming off six-win seasons.

Then again, no team has ever gotten to that underwhelming total with a season-ending Authentic Geron Christian Jersey , five-game winning streak fueled by the midseason acquisition of a quarterback who has shown signs of becoming one of the league's most promising passers.

That's exactly the situation the San Francisco 49ers find themselves in as they held their first training camp practice Thursday led by Jimmy Garoppolo and his $137.5 million contract.

"If our guys make a living just reading and listening to talk radio and stuff, that stuff could mess you up," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "I am aware that people have talked highly about us and that's what comes with the territory when you win your last five games after starting so bad. I mean, we all know that doesn't mean anything. It doesn't."

The 49ers were far from promising at the start of Shanahan's first season as coach, losing their first nine games for the worst start in franchise history. That vibe began to change after San Francisco dealt a second-round pick to New England for Garoppolo after the eighth loss and things really began to change once Garoppolo was able to get on the field.

He threw a late garbage-time touchdown in a loss to Seattle that dropped the Niners to 1-10 and then took over as starter from rookie C.J. Beathard the following week. San Francisco didn't lose again last season, posting the best record ever for an NFL team that lost its first nine games.

But there is little carry-over effect in the NFL with nearly half 鈥?19 of 40 鈥?of the teams that finished the season on a five-game winning streak the past 23 seasons missing the playoffs the following year.

"The way we finished last year was all positive and everything but this is a completely new season with new challenges," left tackle Joe Staley said. "Everybody has been very focused and understands that. It's exciting to be able to build on something positive from last year and carry it into the offseason. But there's no one in the locker room who thinks we arrived. We have a ton of work to do. We were a 6-10 football team. We were happy with the way we finished last year but that's in the past."

The presence of Garoppolo is the biggest reason for optimism for San Francisco even if he didn't look particularly sharp in the first practice of the summer.

He completed 67.4 percent of his passes last season Cheap Lamar Jackson Jersey , averaging 8.8 yards per attempt with seven TDs, five interceptions and a 96.2 rating.

Among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts last season, Garoppolo ranked first in yards per attempt, fourth in completion percentage. His 308.4 yards passing per game in his five starts also would have led the league had he played a full season.

San Francisco scored on an NFL-best 56.6 percent of their drives after Garoppolo took over as starter and ranked in the top five in the league in scoring offense (28.8 points per game), yards per play (6.1) and yards per game (409.6).

That all came with Garoppolo barely knowing the offense, learning just pieces each week as he scrambled to get up to speed. This offseason he was able to start from scratch and has a much deeper understanding of the scheme and his teammates that he hopes translates to even more success on the field.

"The situation I was in last year was so difficult because you're preparing for a defense that you're learning in a week, but at the same time Youth Green Bay Packers Jerseys , you're learning brand new calls, new verbiage, all that stuff," he said. "So, it was combining all of that into one that made it so difficult. Being able to start from the ground up and learn the why's of the offense, how it all ties together, how one play helps dictate the next play Customized Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys , it just makes more sense."

The Niners made other upgrades this offseason, adding an explosive running back in Jerick McKinnon, beefing up the offensive line and signing cornerback Richard Sherman to upgrade the secondary.

San Francisco also was one of the youngest teams in the league last year and hopes to see natural improvement from all the rookies who got extensive playing time in 2017.

"That's the expectation," second-year safety Adrian Colbert said. "We just have to continue to get better. We can't get stagnant. We can't decrease in our production. We have to continue to go. That's our standard."

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career Jaguars Tanner Lee Jersey , where his streak of 210 consecutive games started when head coach Ben McAdoo benched him in favor of Geno Smith.Manning completed just 61.6 percent of his passes for 3,468 yards (his fewest since 2008), and had 19 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. McAdoo was fired and replaced by Pat Shurmur, while long-time general manager Jerry Reese was also shown the door. New York went from 11 wins and a postseason berth in 2016 to the second overall pick a year later.Manning has been given the vote of confidence from his new coaching staff, and the two-time Super Bowl Champion feels like there is plenty left to give in what's been a fairly successful career."Obviously it has been an unbelievable run, but I want to continue doing it,鈥?Manning told NFL Network (h/t "It鈥檚 not over. I know that. . . . I鈥檓 excited for this upcoming year and really prove that I can still play at a high level. We can win games. We can win championships."The 2018 NFL draft featured a handful of prized quarterback prospects, including Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold. Many expected the Giants to draft Manning's successor, but they opted for Penn State running back Bengals Preston Brown Jersey , Saquon Barkley. There is reason for optimism in the Meadowlands this upcoming season. With Barkley in the backfield, Manning will be armed with a game-changing running back who can ease some of the workload off the passing game.On top of that, Manning's receiving core will hopefully stay healthy this season. Star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. only played in four games before fracturing his ankle and missing the rest of 2017. No. 2 wideout Sterling Shepard only played in 11 games, while perennial Pro Bowler Brandon Marshall played five games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.Marshall was released, but Shepard, Beckham and Barkley give Manning arguably the best set of playmakers he's ever had. And though the defense was a mess in 2017, let's not forget they gave up the second fewest points per game in 2016.Manning is 37 years of age, but he's stayed healthy throughout his entire career. With a new head coach and new playmakers around him, nobody should doubt his ability to bring a third Super Bowl back to New York. The moment the Predators have been waiting for since June 11 finally is here. After failing to force a Game 7 for the Stanley Cup, Nashville is back in the postseason eager to chase hockey’s ultimate prize once again.

This time, the Predators are the Presidents’ Trophy winners for their first-round series starting Thursday night at home against the Colorado Avalanche. Nashville forward Filip Forsberg sees the NHL’s best in the regular season as a better team than the group that made a thrilling run to the franchise’s first final as the lowest-seeded team in the playoffs.

”Same group of guys Youth Ito Smith Jersey , same great mindset, great mentality in this group, but we’re a more skilled team,” Forsberg said.

”Everyone who was here last year is a year older, a year better, and all the guys that they brought in have been great additions and really created a big impact on this team.”

Winning the Presidents’ Trophy is no guarantee of success: Since 2004-05, more teams with the most regular-season points (four) have been eliminated in the first round than have reached the final (three). And Nashville’s own first-round sweep of Chicago, the Western Conference’s top seed last year, has given the Avalanche confidence after their own amazing turnaround for their first playoff berth since 2014, even if they have lost 10 straight to Nashville.

”We got in,” forward Nathan MacKinnon said. ”Anything can happen now. We’re excited for the challenge. It’s not going to be easy against the Presidents’ (Trophy) winning team.”

Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said the Predators won’t take anybody lightly.

”We’re disappointed obviously the way the thing ended last year Phillip Gaines Color Rush Jersey ,” Laviolette said. ”We put ourselves in position to finish it off, and we didn’t get it done. We wanted to give ourselves the best position that we can through the course of the regular season in order to be successful, and we made it. We’re here.”

Some things to know about the Predators and Avalanche for this series:

The Avalanche have one of the youngest rosters with an average age of just 25.8. This season, they dressed 11 rookies. That youthful spirit has rejuvenated the veterans. ”You can feel the excitement and energy from all those guys,” said 28-year-old center Colin Wilson, who spent his first eight seasons with Nashville. ”It’s a fun energy to be a part of.”

Nobody spent more time in the penalty box than the undisciplined Predators, who led the NHL with 928 penalty minutes at an average of 11.3 minutes per game. They led the league with 320 minor penalties and 10 misconducts and tied San Jose with the most game misconducts (four). Laviolette said they have to be better. ”It’s playoff time, and we have to be in control of our actions on the ice,” Laviolette said.

Colorado’s top line of captain Gabriel Landeskog, MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen had a combined 243 points, which accounted for 36 percent of the team’s scoring in the regular season. The speedy MacKinnon led the way with 39 goals and 58 assists to put himself in the Hart Trophy discussion as for the league’s MVP. They’ll likely be matched against Nashville’s top line of Forsberg Titans Harold Landry Jersey , who led Nashville with 64 points, center Ryan Johansen (54) and Viktor Arvidsson (61). ”We’re always OK with best-best,” Laviolette said.

The Predators have a big advantage in Pekka Rinne , a three-time Vezina Trophy finalist who could finally win the award after a career-high eight shutouts and 42 wins this season. Rinne played a huge role in Nashville’s playoff run last spring. Colorado will be without Semyon Varlamov this series because of a knee injury, putting Jonathan Bernier in net. Bernier went 19-13-0 for Colorado with two shutouts, but this will be just his second career playoff start. His first? A 6-3 loss to Nashville as the Predators clinched the Western Conference title against Anaheim last spring.

AJ Mleczko, who won Olympic gold with the U.S. women’s hockey team in 1998 and silver in 2002, will be the color analyst for this game on NBCSN. The network believes this will be the first time a woman has been in the booth for an NHL playoff game in the U.S. Mleczko, who worked broadcasts for the 2018 Winter Olympics, started doing analysis on men’s hockey with NBC’s national broadcast March 6.
