The Miami Dolphins are expected to be without Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey?Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Cheap Duke Gear .Pouncey was listed as doubtful on the teams final injury report after reinjuring his left hip in practice this week. Its the same hip that was surgically repaired in the offseason and caused Pouncey to miss the first four games of the regular season. There is no question that Pouncey is a key cog for Miami (5-4). The Dolphins were 1-3 this season in games without Pouncey and 4-1 in games he was healthy.Backup center Anthony Steen will start in place of Pouncey. Miami also will be without starting left tackle Branden Albert, who dislocated his wrist in last weeks win over the San Diego Chargers. Cheap Duke Jerseys Authentic . -- Ken Appleby made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season to lead the Oshawa Generals to a 2-0 win over the Belleville Bulls on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action. Brandon Ingram College Jersey . The 20-year-old Pelicans big man glanced up and smiled widely at the well-wishers -- a fitting end to a day he wont soon forget. Davis responded to his selection earlier in the day as a Western Conference All-Star with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and the New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-91 on Friday night. . Ivanovic was leading 7-5, 1-0 when Hantuchova withdrew after falling 0-40 behind in the second game. The match started slowly for Ivanovic, who surrendered her first two serves as Hantuchova took a 5-3 lead. NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Pelicans are trying to find more offensive support for the NBAs second-leading scorer, Anthony Davis. The Indiana Pacers are trying to pick up the slack while starting guard Monta Ellis rests a groin injury.Balanced contributions will be a key for both teams when they meet for the first time this season Thursday night in the Smoothie King Center.New Orleans guard Tim Frazier had his first triple-double in a 120-119 overtime victory at Phoenix on Sunday, and reserve guard Langston Galloway continued his hot 3-point shooting during a 113-109 home loss to Golden State on Tuesday.Galloway made 19 3-pointers over the past five games, a career best for that length of games, and he shot 44.2 percent on 3-pointers in that stretch.I think in college was probably the last time I had (such a green light to shoot), Galloway told the Pelicans team website. Last year in New York I had it somewhat, but the coaches, teammates, they all believe in me (here). I just go out there and play with a lot of confidence.Against the Suns, Davis tied for the third-most points among five New Orleans players who scored double figures.Against the Warriors, the Pelicans again had five double-figure scorers as Davis led the way. But down the stretch, the New Orleans offense -- Davis included -- broke down, producing a total of two points in its final 11 possessions as the Pelicans squandered a five-point, fourth-quarter lead and dropped to 8-18.It comes down to making plays at the end, New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said. I thought the last five, six minutes of the game, we became a little stagnant, and if you become stagnant with this (Golden State) team, they do a great job of loading up their defense. You cant hold the basketball. The Pacers (13-13) lost at Miami 95-89 onn Wednesday as Ellis missed his second straight game. Bobby Hurley College Jersey. He will sit out at least one more game after Thursday.Glenn Robinson III replaced Ellis in the starting lineup, though his contributions are more varied than just scoring, which is Ellis forte. Robinson is not among the five Indiana players with a double-figure scoring average. Its sad to see Monta out, you never want to see anyone injured, but I want to take advantage of this opportunity, Robinson told the Pacers website. I definitely want to be a starter in this league, and I think I can help this team out, bringing energy and being ready to play every night. Energy is the biggest thing we need in the starting lineup.Robinson left the game against Miami in the third quarter after his head collided with the Heats Hassan Whitesides knee, but he returned in the fourth quarter.Hes going to get better by the game, forward Paul George said of Robinson. We know how much he can do and how much offensively he has in his package. We want him to play his game, but hes the fifth option for us. Hes growing. Hes good now, but when his time comes, hes going to be really good. The Pacers made just nine 3-pointers against the Heat after posting season-high totals in their previous two games. They made 15 3-pointers against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, then made 17 two nights later against the Charlotte Hornets.Im going to stay ready no matter what happens when Monta comes back, Robinson told the Pacers website. But the biggest thing is Ive learned a lot and Ive proven not only to myself and my teammates, but to the coaches and the rest of the league that I belong and Im here to stay. SASKATOON -- After seeing their three-goal lead evaporate, the Portland Winterhawks quick-strike offence ensured the race for the MasterCard Memorial Cup title is still wide open. . Derrick Pouliot and Chase De Leo scored 23 seconds apart in the third period Monday as Portland picked up its first win at the tournament with a 6-3 victory over the London Knights. The result means that all four teams at the Canadian Hockey League showcase now sit with 1-1 records and guarantees a tiebreaker game on Thursday. The Winterhawks, who were coming off a 7-4 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Saturday in a game that saw Portland blow a 3-1 lead, responded well after surrendering a similar edge against the Knights. "It was a big win for our team. We needed to respond with a good effort," said Winterhawks coach Travis Green, whose team led 3-0 midway through the second period before London stormed back. "Thats a real good hockey team we played over there. It was a hard-fought win and Im happy with how our team played." Ty Rattie had two goals and an assist for the Western Hockey League champions, Saskatoon native Taylor Leier had a goal and two assists, and Oliver Bjorkstrand chipped in with a goal and an assist. "I thought we had a really good start to the game and then we kind of let off the gas a bit, which weve done a couple times this post-season," Portland defenceman Seth Jones said. "Weve got to stop that. They got back in it but we were able to get a couple more goals and hold the lead." Mac Carruth made 25 saves for the Winterhawks after allowing all seven goals in the loss to Halifax. "Maybe hed like to have that first game back. We have total confidence in him," Pouliot said. "It was good to see him play well tonight and were going to need that going forward." After London tied the game 3-3 early in the third period, Pouliot, a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2012, ripped a shot off the shoulder of Knights goalie Anthony Stolarz and in on a Portland power play at 6:20. De Leo ended the London netminders night at 6:43 by sliding a shot home from the slot. "We have to contribute every once in a while and do the little things and just do whatever it takes to help the boys win," said De Leo, who plays on Portlands checking line. "It felt good to finally get one on the board." Bo Horvat and Alex Broadhurst replied with a goal and an assist each for London, while Scott Harrington also scored. Stolarz allowed five goals on 26 shots before being replaced by Jake Patterson. London will have to regroup quickly with the Knights round-robin finale against Halifax set for Tuesday night. "We had a couple days off and didnt have our legs under us again in the first period," Horvat said. "Other than that we really regrouped well." Jones, the No. 1 ranked North American skater according to NHL Central Scouting ahead of next months draft, finished with a plus-4 rating for a Portland team that breathed a sigh of relief after a disappointing opener. "We definitely calmed down a bit after this game," he said. "Its definitely good to get the first win under the belt." Down 3-2 after two periods, the Knights tied it early in the third when London forward Brett Welychkas attempted deflection in front of Carruth fell to Broadhurst at the side of the Portland goal for an easy tap in. The Winterhawks netminder kept the score tied with a stop of Josh Anderson on a partial breakaway a couple minutes later before Pouliot and De Leo struck in quick succession and Rattie scored into an empty net. "Theyre a good team over there and they know how to protect a lead. We did a great job battling back and just came up a little bit short at the end," Knights forward Max Domi said. "Were not looking to make excuses here. Realistically its one loss. Its a tournament for a reason and were ready to battle back against Halifax." With Portland leading 1-0 after a sleepy first period, the floodgates opened in the second. Bjorkstrand doubled the Winterhawks lead at 2:17 after wheeling out from behind the London net and snapping a shot shortside on Stolarz. Rattie then stretched the advantage to three with a goal with the teams playing 4-on-4 that was a carbon copy of his effort against Halifax on Saturday night. The St. Louis Blues draft pick moved into the London zone and toe dragged the puck around a Knights defender before slipping a backhand past Stolarz at 10:23 while falling to the ice. Needing a spark, the Ontario Hockey League champions responded just 15 seconds later as Harrington moved into the high slot and wired a shot into the top corner past Carruth. Horvat scored the games second highlight-reel goal at 12:30 on the power play. The 15th-ranked North American skater ahead of the draft took a slick between-the-legs pass from Domi right in front of Carruth before burying a shot past the Portland goalie. "I turned my head slightly and saw Domi with his stick between his legs," Jones said. "The next thing I know Horvat puts it top shelf in the back of the net. I wasnt able to see the replay ... but Im betting it will be highlight of the night." The crowd of 7,575 at the Credit Union Centre seemed half asleep in the early going and the two teams didnt do much to help wake them out of their slumber. Coming off the high of the host Saskatoon Blades exciting 5-2 victory over Halifax on Sunday night, the half-empty arena finally came to life at 16:53 of the first period when Leier deflected a shot off the sideboards from Taylor Wotherspoon past Stolarz for the only action of note in a drab opening 20 minutes. The Winterhawks have a day off before meeting the host Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night in the round-robin finale. "Our team doesnt really get too high or too low, even when were winning," Green said. "Were a pretty relaxed group that works extremely hard." Notes: All four teams hold 1-1 records for the second straight year and for just the second time in history since the four-team format was adopted in 1983. ... De Leo also had an assist for Portland. ... Patterson finished with five saves for London. Knights coach Dale Hunter would not say who will start in goal against Halifax. .Y. -- Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Wednesday that J. . Robredo, ranked No. 16, bounced back from an upset loss to Leonardo Mayer in the second round of the Royal Guard Open in Chile last week to down Carreno Busta in 1 hour, 25 minutes. On a day filled mostly with qualifying matches, fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain also entered the second with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win over Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, while Guido Pella of Argentina defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance. . 31, the CFL club announced Monday. The team also has yet to decide on the future of Doug Berry, who began the season as a consultant to the head coach but took over the offensive co-ordinators duties in July. Percy shot 66, Sabbatini, Kim and Harrington 67, and Appleby 68.I played really well starting out, DeChambeau said. Its kind of a disappointing round to what could have been a great day, but Im only one back and could be tied for the lead. It is what it is. I know that I should be around 10 or 11 under, but I cant say that because Im not. Im 66 under going into the weekend, and I have a good shot to win this tournament still. Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge admits there is an element of risk in recalling underdone midfielders Tom Liberatore and Jack Macrae for an AFL elimination final. Sam Shields Jersey .But its a risk that Beveridge seems likely to take, with the second-year coach vowing to be bold as he mulls the best 22 for Thursday nights knockout clash with West Coast.Liberatore (ankle) and Macrae (hamstring) have been on the sidelines since round 19 of the regular season but are both fit and pretty close to being selected, according to Beveridge.Stand-in skipper Easton Wood (ankle) and mobile ruckman Jordan Roughead (calf) missed a final-round loss to Fremantle but are also expected to return.Jake Stringer, who was dumped to the VFL following round 21, will travel to Perth and rounds out a total of five changes that Beveridge appears likely to make.Probably, theres a tipping point somewhere, Beveridge said, when asked if there was a limit on how many changes you can make for a final. With a tendon injury like he (Macrae) had you can still run, you just cant run at speed.Tom was a little bit different. He had surgery. He was a little bit more behind at the start but hes worked really hard.Theyre probably the two risks. Everyone else has really done the work and played a lot of footy. But in big finals you need to be bold and go all out - theres no tomorrow after Thursday if it doesnt happen for us.Wood has already made the trip to Western Australia as part of an advance party.Weve picked him and we expect him to play, Beveridge said.Beveridge confirmed Tom Boyd, who hurt his ankle in a last-start loss to the Dockers, would be fit to face the Eagles.Liberatore and Macrae have also been passed fit but Beveridge acknowledged that didnt make it a simple decision. They havent played for quite a while now. Their training form has been good but training and playing are two separate things, he said.We need to make sure we pick our strongest side.We still think theres a lot of improvement. Some of that comes with players who are maybe a little bit more prepared ... more experienced or ... a bit more ready to possibly play a big final.Beveridge admitted the pre-finals bye could hardly have come at a better time for his club.It definitely suits us. If we had to pick a team going into last week we would have been fortunate to have 27 or 28 players available, he said. Ramik Wilson Jersey . BATON ROUGE, La. Paul Goldschmidt Jersey . -- Les Miles has been relieved of his duties as LSUs head football coach and will be replaced by Ed Orgeron as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2016 season, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced on Sunday afternoon along with consultation from the Officers on the LSU Board of Supervisors and LSU President Dr. F. King Alexander.Decisions like this are never easy ones to make, Alleva said. Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and hes been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult. However, its apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season havent changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that.Miles, the second-winningest coach in school history, posted a 114-34 record in 11-plus seasons at LSU. The Tigers are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play this season.Alleva announced that Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach Cam Cameron was also dismissed on Sunday evening. Orgeron will announce his new staff assignments on Monday.A press conference will take place on Monday at 12:30 p.m. CT to discuss the dismissal of Miles along with the promotion of Orgeron to interim head coach. This is a trip that could go a long way to define the season for the Carolina Panthers. The Oakland Raiders are hoping theyre recovered enough from their latest voyage to be able to continue their winning ways. The teams meet Sunday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Were talking about recovering from the trip, Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said. Its all about whats next for us and right now its the Carolina Panthers. ... Busy turning the page to the Carolina Panthers. The Raiders, who are the leaders in the AFC West, are coming off Monday nights victory against the Houston Texans in Mexico City. The Panthers have packed up for the long haul. Theyre staying on the West Coast after this game to take on the Seattle Seahawks the following week.It shapes up as a crucial time for the reigning NFC champions. Were going there for two reasons and two reasons only, Carolina head coach Ron Rivera said, offering a twist on the one-game-at-a-time mantra. Theyre both important. Each game has (its) own individual meaning.Rivera, though, said the focus is clearly on the Raiders as the Panthers (4-6) embark on this trip. Theyll practice at San Jose State in between the games. The Panthers are somewhat wounded, particularly with linebacker Luke Kuechly ruled out after entering the concussion protocol from the Nov. 17 game against New Orleans.Carolina was fortunate to have extra time to prepare because of that Thursday night game. The injury report grew considerably, especially with defensive end Mario Addison and center Ryan Kalil exiting and also ruled out.Hopefully they can come back and we can make a push, Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert said. The Panthers, whove won three of their past four games, are in a wait-and-see situation regarding the linebacking because Kuechlys normal backup is A.J. Klein, who missed the most recent game because of a concussion. The Raiders (8-2) appear in much better position, if nothing else theyre in a more enviable spot in the standings. But winning the division remains a priority and theres lots of work to be done regarding that mission. It still begins with winning the division, Del Rio said. Its the surest way to get a spot in that playoff tournament. With accolades and attention starting to fall on the Raiders, theyre intent on maintaining the right approach. David Peralta Jersey. .You set goals and you want to reach certain things, quarterback Derek Carr said. Everybody expects great things and when good things come our way you have to know how to be humble.Anytime you have 10 games and you have eight wins, were thankful for that. If we dont win another one, its not going to mean anything. Our focus right now is on beating Carolina.Del Rio, who was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers in 2002, said the Raiders have developed good tendencies during their four-game winning streak. He said there are challenges the team must encounter in the aftermath of the out-of-country trip and dealing with a shortened week of preparation. The seasons foundation is something hes counting on.As you have success and build on that and have a reference point to go back on, Del Rio said. I think our guys have embraced the idea of competing for the full 60 minutes. Weve found ways to win, but it has been different ways each week. While Carr has become a focal point for Oaklands offense, the team has thrived on balance and versatility. Thats something the Raiders figure can work to their advantage. To know that we can win a football game either way, Carr said. We can run the football or throw the football. Either way, Im all for it as long as we keep on winning. The Panthers have been shoddy in converting scoring chances into touchdowns and quarterback Cam Newtons inconsistency has created concerns. Turnovers and red-zone shortcomings have been glaring at times. We will make plays and hopefully we will make enough to win football games, Rivera said.Rivera has put a positive spin on the trips potential even though it means facing a pair of divisional leaders in consecutive weeks. From an internal standpoint, there are gains to be made for the Panthers. Its an opportunity for those guys to do some bonding, Rivera said. Hopefully, it will be a good opportunity for our guys. This will be only the sixth meeting between the Panthers and Raiders, and the first in Oakland since 2008. Ferrari have asked FIA stewards to review Sebastian Vettels demotion in the Mexican Grand Prix. Julio Teheran Jersey . Two weeks after Vettel was relegated from third to fifth after being adjudged to have moved under braking defending against Daniel Ricciardo, Ferrari say new evidence has come to light and they have requested the Mexican GP stewards reassess the incident. The annoucement was made just hours after FIA race director Charlie Whiting appeared at the drivers press conference ahead of this weekends Brazilian GP in which he sought to explain why Vettel and Max Verstappen had been penalised. Ferrari insist they have chosen to persue the matter in light of its importance as a precedent for the future after the FIA introduced a beefed-up rule at the previous race in Austin to outlaw drivers moving under braking - a regulation dubbed the Verstappen rule following several controversial incidents involving the Dutchman this season.Vettel became the first driver to be punished under the new rule.Scuderia Ferrari has submitted a request to the Stewards of the 2016 Mexican Grand Prix to review their decision to penalize Sebastian Vettel for breach of Article 27.5 of the 2016 F1 Sporting Regulations as a consequence of his driving behavior in Turn 4 of lap 70, read a Ferrari statement. Paul di Resta looks at why Max Verstappen picked up a five-second penalty, which meant that Ferraris Sebastian Vettel was promoted to third place This has been the first application of Article 27.5 of the 2016 F1 Sporting Regulations as interpreted on the basis of the Race Directors notes on defensive maneuvers and effective from the 2016 US Grand Prix.Scuderia Ferrari considers that a number of new elements have come to light after the decision was rendered that make the decision reviewable under Article 14.1 of the International Sporting Code. Scuderia Ferrari is aware that championship rankings will not change, regardless of the outcome. But in light of its importance as a precedent for the future, and in order to provide clarity in the application of the rules in future events, Scuderia Ferrari believes that the decision should be reconsidered by the Stewards.Although Ferrari did not divulge what the new evidence related to, their request comes just hours after FIA race director Charlie Whiting gave a detailed explanation of several controversial judgements in the Mexican GP at the end of Thursdays regular drivers press conference in Brazil. Sitting behind Whiting, Vettel insisted he had not moved to illegally block Ricciardo.I dont agree with the decision made, said the Ferrari driver. I gave enough room on the inside, l kept the car straight for the majority of the braking and in my opinion Daniel locked up so badly because there was no grip on the inside. Frazier combined for 55 points and Georgia beat Furman 84-78 on Thursday.Frazier scored 28 points -- 15 in the second half -- and Maten added 27 as Georgia improved to 2-1 and dropped Furman to 1-2.The Bulldogs used their height advantage to outrebound Furman 30-23 and led for some 38 minutes of the game.Trailing 36-31 at halftime, Furman rallied with a 14-3 run early in the second half and led 48-47, and then briefly led again at the 8:07 mark after a made free throw by Kris Acox. From that point, Georgia outscored the Paladins 29-22 to earn the victory.Juwan Parker and Mike Edwards scored eight points each and the Bulldogs shot 53 percent (28 of 53) from the field and 28 percent from beyond the arc, led by Frazier, who was 4 of 9 on 3-point attempts.Theres been some concern at Georgia about who other than Frazier and Maten will provide points, but Bulldogs coach Mark Fox was pleased with those who added to the score. We had a lot of guys chip in -- our two big guns (Maten and Frazier) showed up like they should -- but we had a lot of other guys chip in, which was good to see, Fox said.Parker, who was 3 of 8 from the field and grabbed five rebounds, said Foxs shuffling of the rotations means anyone could help Frazier and Maten with point production. You have to be ready for the moment of truth, especially early in the season, said Parker, who hit a bank shot and a baseline jumper around the four-minute mark to put Georgia up 66-59. Thats when a bunch of different guys are going to be stepping up in different moments and different games, so you just have to keep your confidence because any night could be your night.Acox scored 17 points for Furman and Daniel Fowler added 16 before leaving the game late with an injury. Devin Sibley, the Paladins leading point producer, added 14 points on 4-of-12 shooting.Furman, which had five players score in double-figures in its 84-74 victory over UAB on Monday, was not as potent on offense or defense against Georgia.Youve got to give Georgia credit, coach Niko Medved said. I didnt think we were as connected defensively as we needed to be early. Frazier is a great player, I know that, but I thought that when you let a player like that get a rhythm early in the game. Once he got going, those guys were difficult to defend.THE TAKEAWAYGeorgia: Georgia improves too 2-1 after a season-opening loss to Clemson and two victories on its home floor. Bobby Cox Jersey. Furman: The Paladins shot 50 percent from the field, 48 percent from beyond the arc and had four players score in double figures, but they couldnt withstand Georgias run at the end.UP NEXTGeorgia: After two games at home, Georgia takes its first significant road trip of the season, traveling to Kansas Citys Sprint Center for the final rounds of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. The Bulldogs will open against George Washington -- the 2016 NIT champions -- on Monday and will play either No. 7 Kansas or UAB on Tuesday.Furman: The Paladins will play their first home game when they host Trinity Baptist at 4 p.m. on Saturday, the first of a three-game homestand that will also see Furman face UNC-Asheville (7 p.m. Tuesday), and Hiawassee (7 p.m., Nov. 25).TURNING POINTWhen Furman took the lead at the 7:13 point in the second half, Georgias Derek Ogbeide got a big putback to enable the Bulldogs to retake the lead and a slam by Mike Edwards at 6:54 put his team up 59-58; Georgia outscored Furman 25-20 the rest of the way.LUCKY 13Yante Matens 27 points marked the 13th time in his career that hes scored at least 20 points in a game. Hes scored in double figures 38 times at Georgia.QUOTABLEI thought as a team we made a step forward and it was another step in the right direction. There were some plays we that needed to be made that we didnt make towards the end of the game and (coach Mark Fox) will correct that in film. Other than the end of the game, I thought we managed the game very well. Georgias Yante Maten.HALL-WORTHYOn Friday, Georgia legends Hugh Durham and Dominique Wilkins will be inducted as part of the Class of 2016 for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Wilkins has already been inducted in the Naismith Hall of Fame. Also in the Class of 2016 are Mark Aguirre (DePaul), Bob Boozer (Kansas State), Lionel Simmons (LaSalle), Jamaal Wilkes (UCLA), Doug Collins (Illinois State) and Mike Montgomery, who coached at Montana, Stanford and California.TOUGH HOSTSGeorgia now has a 23-4 overall record against Furman (in a series that dates back to 1920) and the Bulldogs are 14-1 when playing the Paladins in Athens. HAMILTON - Dave Stala is coming back early for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. . The Ticats (1-3) are taking the veteran slotback off the nine-game injured list and adding him to the roster in time for their game Saturday against the unbeaten Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) in Guelph, Ont. Stala, 33, opened the season on the injured list after undergoing knee surgery. The six-foot-two, 205-pound Stala is entering his fifth season in Hamilton and 11th in the CFL. With veteran slotback Andy Fantuz still nursing a hamstring injury, the return of Stala will be a boost to a young Hamilton receiving corps. Kicker Luca Congi, who didnt dress for Sundays 37-0 road loss to Saskatchewan, will play Saturday at Alumni Stadium. . Patrice Bergeron and Daniel Paille scored 20 seconds apart a few minutes after Stamkos was taken off the ice on a stretcher with a broken right leg, and the Bruins beat the Lightning 3-0 on Monday afternoon. . Halifax beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-5 on the strength of two goals apiece from Nikolaj Ehlers, Matt Murphy and Brent Andrews. Jonathan Drouin also scored and had three assists while Zachary Fucale made 17 saves for the Mooseheads (16-8-0), who led 6-1 after two periods. . Dukurs winning time was 1 minute, 45.76 seconds, a quarter-second better than Russias Alexander Tretiakov. Lativas Tomass Dukurs was third, 1.41 seconds off the pace. Jon Montgomery of Eckville, Alta. Virginia Cavaliers mens basketball coach Tony Bennett supported his teams decision to kneel in photos denouncing injustice and inequality circulated on Twitter by two of his players this week.On Thursday, guards?London Perrantes and Marial Shayok?posted black-and-white photos of the teams players locking arms and kneeling atop the schools logo. Our guys realize there are a lot of issues going on in our country, Bennett said in a statement Friday. I support their desire to promote peace and equality. The photos are a clear reference to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernicks refusal to stand during the national anthem in recent months and the wave oof protest against racial discrimination among athletes that has followed. Most recently, Nebraska football players Michael Rose-Ivey, Mohamed Barry and DaiShon Neal kneeled during the anthem before a game at Northwestern. On Sunday, players from both Michigan and Michigan State raised their fists while standing for the national anthem.Virginia -- a consensus top-10 team and ACC title contender in 2016-17 -- is among the first and most high-profile instances of activism ahead of the upcoming college basketball season. Fervent fans and last at-bats havent done the home teams much good in the first eight wild-card games. Bruce Rondon Jersey .As baseball enters its fifth season with its one-game, winner-take-all format prior to the Division Series, victorious visitors have become an unlikely trend. The road team is 6-2 in wild-card games -- a good omen for the Orioles and Giants this year.Baltimore, Toronto, the New York Mets and San Francisco are also trying to become the second team to go from wild-card winner to World Series champion -- the Giants were the first, beating the wild-card winning Royals from the AL in the 2014 Fall Classic.A look back at the first four years of wild-card games in preparation for Baltimore-Toronto on Tuesday and San Francisco-New York Mets on Wednesday:SHUTOUTS APLENTYFour of the eight wild-card games have been shutouts. The Pittsburgh Pirates have been the victims twice. In 2013, Tampa Bays Alex Cobb, who had missed part of the regular season after taking a line drive off his head, pitched out of jams three times in seven innings before the Rays bullpen finished a 4-0 win at Cleveland. In 2014, the Giants Madison Bumgarner (wholl start against the Mets on Wednesday) struck out 10 and needed only 109 pitches in a four-hit, 8-0 shutout at Pittsburgh. In 2015, Chicagos Jake Arrieta gave up four hits in a 4-0 road win over the Pirates, the Cubs first postseason victory in 12 years. Also in 2015, Dallas Keuchel faced the Yankees on three days rest and allowed three hits over six innings, and three relievers finished up in a 3-0 victory.FITTING BEGINNINGThe wild-card games got off to an appropriately wild start. The first NL game in 2012 was Chipper Jones last contest before retirement, and it included a 19-minute delay while beer cups, popcorn holders and other debris were cleaned off Turner Field following a disputed infield fly call.Umpire Sam Holbrook made the ruling in the eighth inning when St. Louis shortstop Pete Kozma called for a popup in left field, but then Kozma veered away at the last moment and the ball dropped. The Braves thought they had the bases loaded with one out before realizing Holbrooks decision, and fans responded by littering the field with whatever they could find.Atlanta lost the game 6-3 and the Cardinals advanced to the NL Championship Series before losing to the Giants in Game 7.MOST FANTASTIC FINISHThe 2014 AL wild-card game is an easy winner. Kansas City trailed Oakland 7-3 in the eighth inning and 8-7 in the 12th before Salvador Perezs single down the left-field line produced a 9-8 walk-off victory in the Royals first postseason game since 1985.BIGGEST BATSan Franciscos Brandon Crawford became the first shortstop to hit a postseason grand slam , going deep against the Pirates Edinson Volquez in the fourth inning of what was a scoreless game in 2014.WHOD A THUNK?Anything can happen in a one-game playoff, of course, but the Orioles 5-1 win at Texas in 2012 might have been the biggest surprise in the short history of the wild-card games.Joe Saunders, acquired in a late-season trade, was matched against Yu Darvish and allowed one hit over 5 2/3 innings as the Orioles won their first playoff game in 15 years and knocked out the two-time defending AL champion Rangers. Bill Melton Jersey . Los Angeles star goalie survived those perilous gymnastics with no problem, and he eventually backstopped the Kings to a skid-snapping win. Quick stopped 27 shots in his return from a 24-game injury absence, Jeff Carter scored the tiebreaking goal with 7:55 to play, and the Kings snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Jose Abreu Jersey . Now tied for second in the league in shootout goals, the 24-year-old likes to see what the opposing goaltender has in store before he ultimately lands on a move. . Traditional contenders Brazil, Greece and Turkey drew the other three spots to complete the 24-team field for this summers tournament in Spain, basketball governing body FIBA announced Saturday at its meeting in Barcelona. A wet and wild days racing on Sunday has no Supercars driver keen to predict the outcome of the Sandown 500.Jamie Whincups car No.88 will start on pole after the six-time series champion had combined with co-driver Paul Dumbrell to beat home the field in qualifying. The duos third-straight pole position at the Melbourne circuit might have been a predictable result but Whincup said the forecast big wet meant Sunday wouldnt be straightforward. Its going to be all over the place, he said. Its going to be a matter of having the right tyres on at the right time, having the right set-up for the conditions.Everyones going to take a guess on what part of the race its going to be. Whoever takes the best guess will be in the best spot. The weather bureau is predicting up to 10mm of rain in Melbourne on race day, with most to fall before the start time of 1:15pm.That has Dumbrell and Garth Tander, who will join the Red Bull driver on the front row, at odds over the best place to be.With Tanders Holden Racing Team car No.2 to start on the outside of the track, he saidd it could allow him or co-driver Warren Luff to scoot into the lead by turn one. Michael Jordan Jersey. .Id rather start on the outside of the front row. If its changeable weather, the outside line will be dry from previous races running across. The inside will probably be wet, he said.Dumbrell suggested an advantage might not materialise. The tracks quite abrasive ... it might be a little bit dirty on the inside but, with wet weather coming, its probably going to neutralise the whole track, he said.Rule changes add to the intrigue. Now that theyve taken out the four-stop minimum mandatory component of the strategy, I think youll see some variation of the teams over three or four stops, he said.Throw the weather in as well and itll be a very interesting day tomorrow.Scott McLaughlin, whose Volvo will start from third place, says there is just one factor that has him well poised for the endurance race.Im a Kiwi - I love the wet, he said. BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox are certainly enjoying playing a lot more this season. Eddie Yarbrough Jersey . David Ortiz hit a three-run home run and Jarrod Saltalamacchia connected twice, the first coming one pitch before Mike Carp homered Sunday, and the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-5. Sitting atop the AL East after a miserable 69-93 record last season that saw first-year manager Bobby Valentine fired during the off-season and a trio of stars -- Adrian Gonzalez. Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a salary dump last August, the Red Sox are feeling like they can enjoy the game again. "This is a great clubhouse, a great group of guys. It starts with the top and works its way down," Saltalamacchia said. "Everybody knows their role and everybody knows what approach to take, which makes things easier. Weve got a good group of veterans with a good group of young guys. Its a lot of fun, especially being in first place, but we know we have to focus on tomorrow." Ryan Dempster (4-6) got his 2,000th career strikeout when he fanned Alberto Callaspo to open the sixth. The Red Sox took two of three in the weekend series against the Angels and have won six of eight. Dempster, signed to a two-year deal via free agency during the off-season, agreed with his batterymate-- Saltalamacchia. "Were a team. Were a tight unit and so when guys are getting a bunch of hits, its a lot of fun in the dugout," Dempster said. "See a guy like Salty break out and get two homers today. Its good energy. As a pitcher, a starting pitcher, it allows you to go out there and really fill the strike zone up. You got a little bit of breathing room." Los Angeles entered the weekend having won eight straight against the Red Sox after going 6-0 last season, but dropped the final two after winning the opener of a day-night doubleheader Saturday. Albert Pujols and Callaspo each had solo homers for the Angels. The Angels power-filled lineup was no match for Bostons bats on Sunday. "You just need to make your pitches. If I could just take back one pitch, just the change-up to Ortiz," Angels starter Joe Blanton said. "It was just middle-in up and its not a good place to throw a changeup to him. If I make a pitch there and get and get the next one, its a big difference taking away three runs. It changes the (complexion) of the game. I just gotta make a better pitch in that situation and I didnt do it." Ortiz, who hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs in Bostons 7-2 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday, has five homers and 14 RBIs in his last 10 games. Angels manager Mike Scioscia felt Blanton didnt locate his fastball well enough when he needed it. "I think he got off to a good start the first go-round of the lineup and then he just had trouble with his fastball," Scioscia said. "He got a change-up up to David Ortiz for the three-run home run. Just struggled with fastball command, especially in the sixth inning." Saltalamacchia and Carp opened the sixth with homers into the centre field seats off starter Blanton (1-10), Carps drive chasing Blanton. In the next inning, Saltalamacchia homered to centre field again, this time a three-run shot into the first row off Robert Coello to give Boston a 10-3 lead. Dempster gave up three runs on six hits in six innings, walking two and striking out six for just his second victory in his last six decisions. Blanton was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- with three homers in eight hits over five-plus innings. Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Red Sox scored four runs off Blanton. Daniel Nava tied it with an RBI single, Dustin Pedroia singled, then Ortiz belted his homer into the Red Sox bullpen to make it 4-1. Callaspo hit a solo homer in the fourth, but Jacoby Ellsburys RBI triple into the right field corner made it 5-2. Los Angeles cut it to 5-3 in the fifth on Mark Trumbos run-scoring single after Mike Trout doubled off the Green Monster. Pujols solo homer pushed the Angels ahead in the first. NOTES: Saltalamacchia had his fourth two-homer game, his previous was April of last season at the Chicago White Sox. ... Pedroia and teammate Jose Iglesias both extended hitting streaks to 13 games, with Iglesias being a career high. ... Blanton entered the game having allowed the most hits in the majors. ... Dempster entered 0-2 with 17 runs in 13 2-3 innings in his career against Los Angeles. ... The Angels Howie Kendrick came in 12 for his last 16, but went 0 for 4. . ... Boston is a majors best 13-6 in day games. ... Boston manager John Farrell said before the game that RHP Clay Buchholz was "sore," but still needed to be examined. Buchholz left Saturdays second game with what the team called "neck tightness." ... Josh Hamilton went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts. ... The Angels are scheduled to open a three-game series in Baltimore Monday with Jered Weaver (1-1, 3.13) facing the Orioles Freddy Garcia (2-3, 4.470 ERA). ... Boston plays at the Tampa Bay Rays Monday with John Lackey (3-5, 2.79 ERA) slated to face Alex Cobb (6-2, 2.39 ERA). Iowa was outgained by Miami University 424 yards to 404 yards, ran 20 fewer plays and its offense had the ball nearly 13 minutes less than the RedHawks last Saturday in the season opener. Brandon McCarthy Jersey .And yet the 16th-ranked Hawkeyes came out comfortably on top, scoring early and often in a 45-21 victory at Kinnick Stadium.Iowa remains at home this weekend and hopes to get off to a 2-0 start when it faces in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., Big Ten Network) before a sellout crowd in another nonconference game. The Cyclones come in 0-1 after losing 25-20 at home to FCS opponent Northern Iowa last Saturday in coach Matt Campbells first game as Cyclones coach. The Hawkeyes defeated the Cyclones 31-17 last year in Ames, but Iowa State has won three of the last five meetings in the series, including its last two visits to Iowa City. One guarantee is there will be a lot of talk border to border about the game, said Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, who Tuesday received a contract extension through the 2026 season and a raise from $4.075 million to $4.5 million annually. And thats one of the great things about playing an instate rival like this. Its good for the entire state of Iowa.Campbell gets his first taste of the intense intrastate CyHawk series. As Toledos coach before he took the Iowa State job, he experienced a similar rivalry with Bowling Green, located 20 miles down the road.I think the key is you have to stay within yourself, Campbell said. Its like very other football game, where the team that take care of the football, the team that manages throughout the football game, is the team thats going to have success.I think our kids know that, and unfortunately, we had to learn a really valuable lesson again in that last Saturday, but its a lesson thats really valuable for us going forward. The statistics from Iowas opener were skewed because the offense was so efficient and the defense created turnovers that resulted in scores. The Hawkeyes burst out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter, led 28-7 at the half and were up 35-7 early in the third quarter. Miami came back with two touchdowns to close the gap, but Iowa responded with the games final two scores. When Iowa did have the ball, the offense overpowered Miamis defense. The 1-2 punch of running backs Akrum Wadley and LeShun Daniels helped the Hawkeyes amass 212 yards on the ground for a 7.3-yard average per carry. Wadley and Daniels each scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half and finished with 121 yards and 83 yards on the ground, respectively. The Hawkeyes no doubt will be looking for more of the same on Saturday against an Iowa State defense that gave up 232 yards rushing against Northern Iowa. That line weve got -- James Daniels, (Sean) Welsh, Ike (Boettger) leading the way -- anybody could run behind them, Wadley said.Iowas defense didnt measure up to its offense against the RedHawks, allowing Miami to march 75, 74 and 75 yards for its touchdowns and gain 266 yards through the air. Part of the RedHawks offensive success could be attributable to the defense being on the field so much of the day and also in part because middle linebacker Josey Jewell, last years leading tackler, was ejected early in the first quarter after a targeting penalty.Losing Josey kind of hurt us on the defensive side, especially in the run game, Iowa cornerback Desmond King said. They were averaging six and seven yards a carry on first down, so it put our defense in a tough position.Whatever the case -- and Ferentz wasnt making excuses -- the Iowa defense will be out to clean up their performance this week while facing Iowa States All-Big 12 running back Mike Warren, who rushed for 1,339 yards in 2015. Cyclones quarterback Joel Lanning completed 18 of 28 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions against Northern Iowa.It looked a little bit like we were overthinking, Ferentz said. We werent as aggressive as a result of that, playing the run, but were going to have to do a better job there. The run defense, in particular, concerns Ferentz going into week two. What it boils down to is us trying to play a better game than we played (Saturday), he said. Hopefully, you make that improvement week one to week two and line up as a better football team on Saturday.Redshirt freshman defensive end Anthony Nelson was a pleasant surprise in the opener with 2 1/2 sacks, six tackles and two forced fumbles. His contributions could be needed again this week with defensive end Parker Hesse questionable because of a hamstring injury. The Hawkeyes are hoping oft-injured wide receiver Jay Scheel is able to play this week. He sat out the opener because of injury concerns.Jay, I think he has a chance, Ferentz said. Hes moving closer. Atlanta Braves Jerseys . Speaking to the Chicago Tribune at baseballs Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Boras called the former home of the Expos a "tremendous environment" for baseball. Deion Sanders Jersey .J. -- Seven games into a disappointing season, New York Giants defensive catalyst Jason Pierre-Paul is getting the feeling hes back. .ca looks back at the stories and moments that made the year memorable. We treat the first split of any season like its the most important stretch of the year. Week 1 of the NFL season feels more important than Week 7, a players first start feels more important than his fifth, and outside of perhaps the final quarter of the year, the first quarter of the season even feels most meaningful -- still-hopeful fantasy owners nod -- even if its all but forgotten by the time December rolls around.I like giving out awards for each quarter of the season for a couple of reasons. One, handing out awards is fun. That part is easy. The other reason is that its useful to look back and view perception at a given moment in time. When I wrote this column after four weeks last year, I gave Aaron Rodgers the MVP award in the middle of what looked to be another dominant season. Rodgers had 11 touchdowns against no picks then. He threw 20 touchdowns against eight picks in the ensuing 12 games. With that in mind, Ive gone through and made my picks for the seven key NFL awards through the first four games of the season. These are the players I would pick given the way the league has voted for these awards in years past; in other words, even if I think Joe Thomas deserves Offensive Player of the Year, Im not going to pick him because the league doesnt value offensive linemen for awards that way. These also arent the players I necessarily think will win these awards at the end of the year, but the players who have earned it as of right now for the first four weeks of the season.Lets start with a player who I have to admit I had written off in my head, which makes him a perfect candidate for the trophy hes receiving ...Comeback Player of the Year: Jimmy Graham, TE, SeahawksThis seems like a straightforward award to start. Little was expected from Graham after he tore his patellar tendon on Nov. 29 last year, an injury that has dramatically impacted careers more than any other injury in years past. Victor Cruz, who has made a modest return from his own patellar tear this season, took nearly two full years to recover from his injury and the subsequent problems that popped up during his rehab. And yet, after a slow start, Graham has posted consecutive 100-yard games in the past two contests for Seattle. Thats as many as he mustered across 27 games in 2014 and 2015 combined, and the first time he has hit triple digits in consecutive weeks since a stretch of four such games in September 2013. There are still plenty of comebacks on their way, and I could see arguments for Cruz or even Melvin Gordon, but Grahams return to form this soon after a patellar tear is unprecedented.Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jalen Ramsey, CB, JaguarsIt was an ugly first month of the year for debuting defenders. Joey Bosa, the leagues top-drafted defensive player, never suited up, one of four first-round defenders to miss the first four games because of injury. Players such as Robert Nkemdiche, Karl Joseph?and Myles Jack struggled to get on the field for defensive snaps for part or all of the month, while Eli Apple and DeVondre Campbell were sidelined with injuries before the month was finished. Just eight rookies have suited up for 200 defensive snaps or more through four games. As a result, while the Offensive Rookie of the Year award might be the toughest choice to make, this one is the easiest. With apologies to Xavien Howard, the clear choice is Ramsey. While he has drawn headlines for feuding with Steve Smith Sr., Ramsey has been the best player on the much-improved Jaguars defense through four weeks. (The Jags are 11th in defensive DVOA after finishing 26th, 20th, 28th and 28th over the past four seasons.) Although he initially seemed to figure in the Jacksonville lineup as a slot corner when teams came out with an extra wide receiver, the fourth overall pick has played every snap each of the past three weeks. When Prince Amukamara returned from an injury last week, it was expensive free agent Davon House who went to the bench, not Ramsey. For all the veterans Jacksonville has imported, its the young guns -- Ramsey, fellow rookie Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler Jr. and Telvin Smith -- who currently stand out for the Jags.Offensive Rookie of the Year: Dak Prescott, QB, CowboysOh boy. This one isnt fair. Linemen have no hope of winning this award, sadly, but Joe Thuney and Cody Whitehair have been effective interior linemen from the jump. Sterling Shepard has been a promising second banana to Odell Beckham Jr. Will Fuller has been even better, terrifying teams who are otherwise occupied with DeAndre Hopkins with his speed and making the most of the space he subsequently has been afforded. Hes on pace for nearly 1,300 receiving yards. Fuller has a return touchdown, but Tyreek Hill might already be one of the best return men in football. And yet, all of those guys arent even close. Its a three-person race right now between Prescott, his teammate Ezekiel Elliott?and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. I think you could make a case for and against each of the three candidates, so lets do that, starting with Elliott. Dallas first-round pick leads the league in rushing yards with 412; after a couple of slow performances to start the season and a costly fumble against Washington, he has produced games with 138 and 140 rushing yards in consecutive weeks. And while the argument was always going to be that Elliott would be a product of his offensive line, those two big games have come without star left tackle Tyron Smith, and starting guard Lael Collins missed Week 4 before going on injured reserve. But I cant bring myself to pick a running back -- even an excellent one -- over a quarterback playing at a high level. That leaves Wentz and Prescott. Wentz has been steady as can be over his first three starts, avoiding turnovers altogether while taking sacks on just 3.8 percent of his dropbacks. Wentzs opponent-adjusted QBR of 67.7 is eighth in the league, and his numbers would look even better if the former North Dakota State stars receivers would offer any help: 6.9 percent of Wentzs passes have been dropped, the second-highest rate in the league behind Matthew Stafford. At the same time, though, Wentz is excelling in the same low-risk system Alex Smith enjoyed in Kansas City. His average pass has traveled just 7.0 yards in the air, 26th in the league. His receivers are second in terms of yards after catch, which hasnt been a repeatable skill for quarterbacks, suggesting its mostly random. The best pass defense he has played through three weeks is that of the Bears, who are 12th in DVOA. Wentz is doing an excellent job, and his ability to read defenses and quickly find his hot receiver for easy short-to-intermediate gains is going to ensure a high floor.Prescott has just been a tiny bit better, especially when you consider that he has been without his franchise left tackle for two games and was missing Dez Bryant last week. I was concerned that Prescott was going to be a checkdown artist given how he played in the preseason, but the fourth-rounder has been able to throw downfield once the Cowboys started creating deeper routes for him over the middle of the field. QBR isnt a be-all, end-all statistic (even before a small sample), but it tries to encapsulate all that a QB does, and Prescott is 16.2 points ahead of Wentz and third in the NFL so far this season.Even if you want to argue that Wentz has narrowly been the better passer this season -- and passer rating and NY/A suggest that he has been -- Prescott has added far more value as a runner (which QBBR measures). Hank Aaron Jersey. . Excluding kneel-downs, Wentzs six carries have produced 27 yards, but with as many fumbles as first downs (one of each). Prescott has carried the ball nine times for 64 yards, and those runs have produced six first downs and two touchdowns without any fumbles. In a close fight, thats just enough to push the needle Prescotts way.Coach of the Year: Gary Kubiak, BroncosI wouldnt blame anybody for picking Mike Zimmer here, and theres an argument for Doug Pederson, who has pushed Philadelphia forward after the end of the Chip Kelly era. Theyve all been great. I think were also collectively underestimating what Kubiak has done, though. Yes, Pederson has had to bring along a rookie quarterback, and Zimmer has built a suffocating defense and won with Sam Bradford, who is playing the best football of his career.Kubiak is winning with Trevor Siemian at quarterback. Wentz was the second overall pick. Siemian was the 250th. The Broncos also have beaten a pair of playoff teams in the Panthers and Bengals, and while they did win it all last year, Denver is doing this without eight of the players who started in the Super Bowl, nine if you include the injured DeMarcus Ware. Some will be biased against Kubiak because of how his time in Houston came to a close, but the former Broncos backup deserves credit for what hes doing with a team in transition right now.Defensive Player of the Year: Von Miller, BroncosKeeping the Broncos theme going, Miller seems like the obvious choice as Defensive Player of the Year after four games with J.J. Watts reign sadly coming to an end. Its fair to say that he is surrounded by great players in Denver, but Miller also is the most productive Bronco of all. He leads the league in sacks (5.5), is tied for third in knockdowns (eight), and has a forced fumble for good measure. And if there were any argument that Miller might be in part a product of having Ware (and before him Elvis Dumervil) around in the lineup, Miller has produced 4.5 sacks in his three most recent games, during which Ware played a total of 18 snaps. After Miller, theres a pool of players in the discussion. Aaron Donald continues to do Aaron Donald things, leading the league with 12 knockdowns when nobody else has more than nine. He also has four tackles for loss on run plays. Carlos Dunlap has been freakishly effective batting down passes, as he has five and nobody else in the league has more than two. Harrison Smith might attract some attention as the star player on Minnesotas devastating defense. Right now, though, the line starts with Miller.Offensive Player of the Year: Derek Carr, QB, RaidersLast year, Cam Newton won both the AP MVP award and the AP Offensive Player of the Year trophy. On one hand, that makes sense: Of course, if a quarterback is the leagues most valuable player at any position, hes also the leagues most valuable offensive player. At the same time, though, the AP voters have spent most of their time voting for one offensive player as MVP and another one as Offensive Player of the Year. Im going to stick with that.Without getting to my MVP vote quite yet, were left with a few Offensive Player of the Year candidates. The rule for this award, at least with me, is that a running back or a receiver has to be head and shoulders above the competition to overcome the positional value of playing quarterback. The best running back in the league in terms of combining volume and efficiency is probably Isaiah Crowell, but realistically, a running back for the 0-4 Browns isnt winning player of the year. Neither Elliott nor Crowell stand out from the pack.At receiver, Julio Jones is coming off of a 300-yard game and leads the league in receiving yards, but he had just 188 yards in his three previous contests. With 488, Julio is just 6 yards ahead of Marvin Jones and 20 ahead of A.J. Green. Is Julio really outplaying his brethren to the point where he stands out as the best offensive player in football? I dont think that would be an accurate statement. Another 300-yard game, maybe ...So then, it comes down to a quarterback. I think theres an argument for Russell Wilson, given that hes playing behind a porous offensive line and is down to one leg and is still managing to post a passer rating within one point of 100. The downside is that the ankle and knee injuries have extinguished Wilsons ability to run, as he has just 15 rushing attempts for 28 yards this year. What Philip Rivers has been able to accomplish missing as many as the top four targets of his arsenal has been remarkable, as hes posting a 104.5 passer rating with seven touchdowns against one desperate fourth-and-long pick, but he has been doing that for years and never received real consideration for this award. Ben Roethlisberger doesnt have the numbers, and Bradford doesnt have the volume.Which all leaves Carr, who has had a remarkable start to the year. His breakout season was 2015, but Carr is breaking out again this year. His numbers in every notable category -- completion percentage, yards per attempt (and all its variations), interception rate and sack rate -- have improved again this year, in some cases dramatically. (The same guy who was completing 58.1 percent of his passes two years ago is up to 68.1 percent this season.) He has nine touchdowns against just one interception and already led two fourth-quarter comebacks for victories. The best arguments you can make against Carr are that he throws short passes and gets a lot of help. In a way, theyre true. Carrs average pass travels 7.0 yards in the air, no different from Wentzs and below the league average of 7.9 air yards per pass. He also benefits from playing behind a great offensive line, with the combination meaning that Carr has been pressured on just 16.5 percent of his passes this year. Only Drew Brees has been bothered less frequently. The flip side of that argument, though, is that Carr has gotten no help from his defense, which has allowed 39 points in the fourth quarter this season and gave up more than 500 yards in each of the first two games. He has been the second-most productive quarterback in the league in 2016.Most Valuable Player: Matt Ryan, QB, FalconsCarr just hasnt been Matt Ryan, who leads the league in every meaningful statistical category:You might argue that he wouldnt be atop all these leaderboards without Julio Jones, and maybe thats true. In Week 3, though, when the Saints tried to eliminate Jones and held him to one catch on seven targets, Ryan went 19-of-23 for 224 yards throwing to his other receivers. Ryan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan have generally done a much better job of spreading the ball around this season; Jones has been targeted on 24.3 percent of Ryans passes this year, down from 33.1 percent last year, and thats even with new addition Mohamed Sanu limited by injury.Ryan hasnt been perfect; even last week, I noted how he struggled to find Jones when he was open for those deeper throws, and Ryan included a pick-six with another pass that should have been intercepted by Luke Kuechly. Theres no blow-away candidate this year through four weeks. Ryan, however, is playing the best football weve seen from him since the first month of the 2012 season, when he also was a viable MVP candidate. Falcons fans who reminisce longingly at that 13-3 season have to be excited to see Ryan and their team return to form. The past few months have seen a meaningful surge in coverage surrounding the betting side of the esports industry, and it hasnt been pretty. Boston Red Sox Jerseys . Back in April, Bloomberg published a significant investigative piece detailing the scope of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive skin betting marketplace and many of the issues stemming from that industry. This article, coupled with a public scandal involving the skin betting site CSGO Diamonds, helped spur a class action suit against Valve. Then two weeks ago, a video from prominent YouTuber h3h3Productions helped shed light on a wide array of issues, including potential fraud, related to the prominent betting site CSGO Lotto.Valve had remained silent throughout this mounting controversy, but its silence ended yesterday. Valve issued a statement entitled In Game Item Trading Update that could mark the demise of skin betting as we know it. While Valves stance seems relatively black and white, the language used in the statement leaves open as many questions as it answers. I will parse through that language to offer more insight into Valves decision and what it means for the future of betting surrounding Valve titles, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.Analyzing Valves statementIn 2011, we added a feature to Steam that enabled users to trade in-game items as a way to make it easier for people to get the items they wanted in games featuring in-game economies.Since then a number of gambling sites started leveraging the Steam trading system, and theres been some false assumptions about our involvement with these sites. Wed like to clarify that we have no business relationships with any of these sites. We have never received any revenue from them. And Steam does not have a system for turning in-game items into real world currency. As far as I know, this is completely true. It could be argued that Valve has supported gambling sites to a certain extent by allowing users to log in via Steam, and Valve games have certainly become more popular as a result of these sites. But that is not the same thing as receiving revenue from their operations. Perhaps more information will come to light over time to support the allegations leveled against Valve in the class action lawsuit filed in Connecticut, but I havent seen any credible evidence that contradicts Valves assertion in its public statement. These sites have basically pieced together their operations in a two-part fashion. First, they are using the OpenID API as a way for users to prove ownership of their Steam accounts and items. Any other information they obtain about a users Steam account is either manually disclosed by the user or obtained from the users Steam Community profile (when the user has chosen to make their profile public). Second, they create automated Steam accounts that make the same web calls as individual Steam users.Using the OpenID API and making the same web calls as Steam users to run a gambling business is not allowed by our API nor our user agreements. This is the crux of Valves position, and judging from the public reaction thus far, it has been largely misunderstood. It does not appear that Valve is banning third-party sites from using Steam accounts to facilitate skin betting. At least, not yet. If you run a search in the Steam Web API Terms of Use and Steam Subscriber Agreement, the word gambling is nowhere to be found. In fact, the API Terms of Use havent been updated since July 2010, before the trading marketplace was even implemented and long before skins were introduced to CS:GO in 2013 through the Arms Deal update.Instead, Valves issue seems to be with the fact that gambling sites create automated Steam accounts that make the same web calls as individual Steam users. This naturally begs two questions: Does this affect sites that use automated Steam accounts to make API calls for purposes other than gambling? Can gambling sites continue to use the API so long as they dont make automated calls? The dominant skin marketplace website, OPSkins, released a statement yesterday that it doesnt believe it is impacted by Valves statement because it is not a gambling site. While it is certainly true that OPSkins users cannot gamble on the site, it does not appear to address the fact that OPSkins makes precisely the same type of automated API calls as betting sites in order to facilitate the large volume of transactions.Meanwhile, gambling sites such as have stated that they will continue to operate, and intend to implement changes to comply with the ToS update from Valve. While its not entirely clear how or other gambling sites could alter their behavior in order to comply with the API and other Valve user agreements, the fact is that Valves current position leaves room for them to do so.Thus, Valves statement creates a level of uncertainty that will have to be addressed. At present, its far from clear which sites will and will not be allowed to access the API moving forward. We are going to start sending notices to these sites requesting they cease operations through Steam, and further pursue the matter as necessary. Users should probably consider this information as they manage their in-game item inventory and trade activity. This is where the rubber meets the road. At the end of the day, the real impact will come from Valves enforcement, not from the statement itself. Will Valve enforce the API restrictions against all third parties, or just gambling sites? Will Valve actively monitor the situation and eliminate new sites as they arise, or will it take a more passive approach?Perhaps the biggest uncertainty surrounds whether Valve will go after all forms of gambling (including betting on the outcome of esports matches), or if Valve is targeting traditional gambling activities such as coin flips, lotteries and similar games. In its statement, Valve consistently uses the word gambling, as opposed to betting. This could be an attempt to draw a distinction between certain types of wagering activities, or it could have no significance at all.Only time will tell how all of this plays out. But from where Im sitting, there simply isnt enough information in Valves short statement for anyone to do more than speculate.Impact on the esports landscapeDespite the uncertainty surrounding yesterdays statement, its great to see Valve taking action in this area. We are rapidly approaching a critical mass of negative publicity that could have a significant impact on the longevity of the second-most popular esport in the world, as well as the interests of every party involved in that competitive ecosystem. If unregulated skin betting is allowed to continue unchecked, broader backlash and the advent of regulation from parties who do not understand our industry is inevitable.I sincerely hope that Valves statement marks the beginning of the end for unregulated, unlicensed betting sites that prey on underage users and offer no safeguards against fraud, threats to competitive integrity and much more. That being said, Im not sure today is that day.The fact that Valves statement relies on API misuse is particularly telling. So long as sites can find a way to comply with the terms of use, they may be allowed to continue operating. There is also the potential that Valves stance could be overboard, eliminating all skin-based betting, not simply the sites that operate illegally. It is often overlooked that skins offer a unique type of betting unit that could change the face of gambling as we know it. While many people buy, sell and gamble skins purely as a form of currency, skins are designed to be used, not merely held. In stark contrast to pure cash, a skin may become less valuable to a user over time while maintaining its value to another user who doesnt own that particular skin. As such, it offers the rare opportunity for gambling with reduced negative consequences for the loser. It is a fundamentally different type of gambling transaction, one that could represent a watershed opportunity for the gambling industry.I dont think it is good for anyone to simply eliminate the potential to bet using skins, and I hope Valve isnt going down this path. The problem isnt betting. The problem is unlicensed, unregulated betting. So long as it is done responsibly, betting can drive engagement and additional revenue streams, with manageable negative impacts. There is ample empirical and anecdotal evidence that shows gambling can be good for esports viewership. But that doesnt mean we should stand by and allow the fraud, false advertising and other illegal behavior that has surfaced over the past few months to go unchecked.Im glad to see Valve acknowledge that it has a role to play in eradicating bad actors. As it moves forward and enforces its position, I hope that Valve will strike the right balance between eliminating problematic behavior while permitting gambling in a legal, regulated and responsible manner.Disclosure: Bryce Blum is the General Counsel at Unikrn. COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland coach Brenda Frese wondered if her players were fully awake for their late morning tip-off against in-state foe Mount St. Marys. They had turnovers, breakdowns on defense and uncharacteristically missed open shots. However, it didnt take long for the No. 6 Terrapins to fix the problem. Brionna Jones finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 6 Maryland rout the Mountaineers 106-42 on Friday.Ieshia Small had 14 points off the bench for Maryland (3-0). Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Kaila Charles and Jenna Staiti added 10 points apiece for the Terrapins, who shot 58 percent from the field.I thought we had a really slow, sluggish start, Frese said. Our shots werent falling and we werent as crisp as we usually are. The second half was a much better indicator of how we want to play for 40 minutes. The Mountaineers (1-2) trailed only 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. But the Terrapins used their size to take control. The 6-foot-3 Jones scored 12 points to boost the lead to 34-18 with 3:37 left in the second quarter. We have a lot of weapons on our team, Jones said. Anybody can come off the bench and score. Were just going to keep playing our brand of basketball. The Mountaineers tried to stay in the game by hoisting three-pointers, but they went 3 of 21 and trailed 37-20 at the break. They finished 7 of 32 from behind the arc.A pair of free throws and layup by freshman Destiny Slocum boosted the margin to 57-25 midway through the third quarter, and the only uncertainty was whether Maryland would score 100 or more points for the third straight game.A 3-pointer by Sarah Myers gave Maryland a 100-39 llead late in the fourth quarter. There have been four constants in the San Antonio Spurs incredible run of success since the 1997-98 season: star Tim Duncan, owner and chairman Peter Holt, coach Gregg Popovich and general manager R. .C. Buford. Duncan just retired, Holt stepped aside as CEO earlier this year, and looming large is the eventual departure of Popovich, who at 67 has secured his place on the short list of the NBAs greatest coaches. So, where does that leave the Spurs? MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Marcus Mariota did everything but sack Ryan Tannehill, leaving that task for his teammates with the Tennessee Titans.Mariota threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score, complementing a defense that sacked Tannehill six times to help Tennessee beat the reeling Miami Dolphins 30-17 Sunday.Mariota bounced back with a strong game after totaling three interceptions and no TD passes in losses the past two weeks. He went 20 for 29 for 163 yards with no interceptions and no sacks, and ran seven times for 60 yards.I saw some open lanes and just ran, he said.DeMarco Murray added 121 yards rushing for the Titans, who totaled 235 on the ground for their highest total since 2009, according to Pro Football Reference. They improved to 2-3, and Miami fell to 1-4.Tannehill and the Dolphins offense turned in another woeful performance aside from the occasional long gain. Rookie Jakeem Grant scored on a 74-yard punt return , Damien Williams had a 58-yard, catch-and-run to set up a touchdown, and DeVante Parker made a 50-yard reception that led to a field goal. But by the second quarter, the crowd was booing Tannehill. By the fourth, fans were chanting for his replacement, Matt Moore, who hasnt started a game since 2011.Do I like it? No, Tannehill said. But it doesnt affect how I play or how I think about myself.First-year coach Adam Gase stood firm by the fifth-year quarterback.Hes not coming out, Gase said. You can ask me 100 times. Hes going to be in there the rest of the season. But Gase acknowledged serious issues on offense. Were inept right now, Gase said. We cant get out of our own way.It didnt help that the Dolphins were without both starters on the left side of their offensive line, and the Titans took advantage while doubling their season sack total. Brian Orakpo had two sacks to increase his season total to six, and Derrick Morgan and Jurrell Casey added two apiece. The Titans Jason McCourty yanked a pass away from Parker for an interception to set up a field goal.Mariota directed touchdown drives of 61, 76, 75 yards and 66 yards. He scored his first rushing touchdown of the year on a 5-yard keeper , and threw for scores of 5 yards to Andre Johnson, 20 yards to Delanie Walker and 4 yards to former Dolphin Rishard Matthews.Miami, by contrast, totaled eight first downs. He scrambled 21 yards to set up the Titans third touchdown, and converted a third down with a 19-yard scramble in the fourth quarter when his team was nursing a seven-point lead.Hes a very dangerous guy back there, Murray said. The Dolphins poor run defense allowed Tennessee to control the ball for nearly 37 minutes.I can assure you guys are frustrated, Miami defensive end Cameron Wake said. Guys are disappointed. Frankly, I hope that everybody is mad and uncomfortable with this feeling, because with the kind of guys and kind of team we have, this should not be happening.STILL PERFECTJohnson improved to 8-0 against the Dolphins and scored his second touchdown of the year.FAST STARTThe Titans, who had been outscored 30-9 in the first quarter this year, scored a TD in the opening period for the first time.MIAMI BIG PLAYSThe Dolphins trailed in yards 195-26 late in the first half but were still in the game thanks to Grant. (STATS) -- The goal for every Eastern Washington opponent is to keep the Eagles high-powered offense off the field, not to let them run 100 offensive plays. .The No. 2-seeded team did just that Saturday as quarterback Gage Gubrud accounted for 517 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in a 31-14 win over Central Arkansas in the second round of the FCS playoffs.Eastern Washington (11-1) will remain on the red turf of Roos Field in Cheney against Richmond (10-3), which rallied to beat No. 7 seed North Dakota, in next Saturdays quarterfinals.I was really proud of our players of finding a way to win, said EWU coach Beau Baldwin, whose team trailed 14-0 in the second quarter. It seemed like a grind at times, but certain imperfections are going to happen because you are playing a great opponent and there are only 16 teams left in the tournament. But we found a way to keep responding.Gubrud, a redshirt sophomore, was electrifying as he had a hand in all but 14 of Eastern Washingtons offensive yards. He completed a school-record 47 passes in 64 attempts for 449 yards and two touchdowns to his favorite receiver, Cooper Kupp, and carried the ball 15 times for 68 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles had to come from behind in their first-ever meeting with Central Arkansas as the Bears (10-3) went ahead 14-0 with two second-quarter touchdowns. But Gubrud put his team ahead by halftime with three scores in the final five minutes of the first half.He scored on a 1-yard run to cap a 14-play, 95-yard drive and make it 14-7. After Tysen Prunty recovered a UCA fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Gubrud connected with Kupp for a 19-yard touchdown. After the Bears went three-and-out, EWU kept a drive alive with a fake field goal and Gubrud capped it with a 6-yard TD to Kupp with 14 seconds left in the half.I felt like early we had a lot of good things going for us, UCA coach Steve Campbell said. But I felt the game kind of changed there somewhere in the second quarter. We were up 14-0 and felt like we really had a lot of momentum. But then they scored, we had the turnover and they scored, and then we gave up another one there before the half.Kendrick Bourne led the EWU receivers with 13 receptions for 126 yards. With 10 receptions, Kupp raised his season total to 101, marking his third season in the century club. He has 412 receptions, 6,156 receiving yards and 68 touchdown receptions in his career -- all-time records for both FCS and Division I.Kupps brother Ketner, a sophomore linebacker, had a team-high 11 tackles after starting in place of injured senior captain Miquiyah Zamora.UCAs 244 offensive yards and 14 points were the fewest against Eastern Washington this season. The Eagles defenses six lowest point totals are in their last six games.Im so proud of how our defense stepped up -- weve grown as the year has gone along, Baldwin said. I dont think people were believing me four or five weeks ago when they were talking about our shootouts with other teams. That wasnt really the reality. Our defense keeps playing great football. . Trailing 9-1 after losing the first two frames of the morning session, opponent Barry Hawkins launched a stunning recovery to move within one frame of levelling their last-eight clash in Sheffield.Hawkins, who had edged a nail-biting final-frame win over Ronnie OSullivan in the previous round, won five frames in a row as he came back to 10-9, but his opponent from Hong Kong stood strong to eventually stumble over the line 13 11. The 38-year-old had seemed destined for the last four for the first time since 2006 after building on his 7-1 overnight advantage to move within four frames of victory. But after Hawkins clawed back the deficit, the decisive frames became increasingly pressure-filled affairs until a nerveless break of 74 from Fu in the 24th frame - in response to a 60 from Hawkins - saw him home.Meanwhile, 45-year-old Alan McManus reached his first Crucible semi-final in 23 years after winning the last four frames of his clash with compatriot John Higgins to also triumph 13-11.It was a remarkable performance from the Scottish veteran, who stuck doggedly to Higgins throughout the match before producing some superb break-building in the final frames as four-times champion Higgins was first to wilt. Kyren Wilson has been a star at the Crucible over the last two weeks McManus will face Ding Junhui in the last four, while Fu will take on world No 1 Mark Selby after the Leicester man secured his own passage with a comfortable 13-8 win over rising star Kyren Wilson. The 2014 champion had resumed Wednesdays morning session with a commanding 10-6 overnight lead, and a pair of swift half-centuries set him on his way to victory.Despite his defeat, Wilson believes he has the ability to one day return and win the world title. He said: Without a doubt, I will win this event in the future. MINNEAPOLIS -- Tracy Claeys was a defensive coordinator for 15 years at four different schools before taking over as head coach at Minnesota, so he knows a thing or two about making adjustments to the game plan on the fly. .Seeing three key members of a unit that is expected to lead the Golden Gophers to new heights be ejected for illegal hits? That was a new one even for him.Minnesota overcame the loss of linebackers Cody Poock and Jonathan Celestin and defensive end Taiyon Devers for targeting to beat Oregon State 30-23 on Thursday night.Im all for that rule, Claeys said. We just have to go back and look at the film and everyones got to lower their target down.Poock was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit on a receiver after a pass fell incomplete. Celestin launched himself head-first into sliding quarterback Darell Garretsons helmet and the freshman Devers came in high on Garretson on a late hit in search of his third sack of the game.It was kind of crazy and kind of nerve-racking seeing all of our starters go out like that, Minnesota defensive back Damarius Travis said.Rodney Smith rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns, the last coming in the fourth quarter to put the Gophers in front 24-23, and the short-handed defense held the Beavers scoreless over the final 15 minutes to hang on for a tense victory in a game they were favored to win by 13 points. You try to educate and get the young men where they need to be to handle the scenarios, Oregon State coach Gary Andersen said of the targeting penalties. Its hard. The quarterback now, he starts sliding, hes protected, which we want to protect the players. Youve got to show the game tape. Theres not a lot of game tape on that.Mitch Leidner was erratic as ever in going 13 for 26 for 130 yards. But he rushed for 76 yard and two scores, the last a 1-yard run with 1:27 left to give the Gophers a seven-point cushion.Garretson threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns for Oregon State. The junior transfer lost two fumbles on crunching sacks by Devers in the first half, but Garretson bounced back to throw TDs to Noah Togiai, Victor Bolden and Tim Cook. They were strong. They were physical. They flew around, Garretson said. They knew what they were doing. They were comfortable. You could see. We put up a pretty good fight.THE TAKEAWAYOREGON STATE: After going 2-10 in Andersens first season last year, the Beavers were hoping Garretsons arrival would help speed the rebuilding process. The early returns are promising. He completed 25 of 40 passes and hung in there while being sacked four times.Youre not going to find a tougher kid than that, Andersen said. Hell stay in there and hell fight like crazy. He didnt just get hit. He got drilled numerous times.MINNESOTA: If the Gophers are truly going to contend in the wide-open Big Ten West, they will have to be much more disciplined and precise going forward. They had eight penalties for 70 yards. Center Tyler Moore snapped the ball over Leidners head twice, one resulting in a safety, and Leidner missed several open receivers down the field, an underwhelming performance all around.I think its a mixture of both being a little too amped and a little nervous, Leidner said. Unfortunately you dont get preseason games like the NFL does to get adjusted to things like that. But to be able to win a game and have some of that sloppiness, that will definitely help us moving forward.GOING FOR 2When the Gophers scored in the last 90 seconds to take a seven-point lead, Claeys elected to go for 2 to try to make it a two-score game. An extra point would have made it impossible for the Beavers to win the game in regulation. My opinion is 95 percent of the time those teams go down and score late, theyre going to kick the extra point and go to overtime, Claeys said. So I would rather take the chance on getting three yards and ending the game.UP NEXTOREGON STATE: The Beavers get next week off before hosting Idaho State for their home opener on Sept. 17.MINNESOTA: The Gophers host Indiana State on Sept. 10 for what should be an easy tune-up before they face Colorado State for a third straight home game. . -- Edmontons Val Sweeting is two wins away from a trip to Winnipeg to play in Canadas Road of the Rings in December. . Tracey comes to the Blue Bombers after spending over a decade with Queens University. Most recently he was the schools assistant football coach. . EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Oakland Raiders Jerseys . -- The defense that was so dominant during Minnesotas 5-0 start has morphed into a rather ordinary unit.Opponents have since adjusted with quick passes and well-timed play calls to neutralize what has been a relentless rush, the turnovers havent come as often and the Vikings have been more susceptible to those confidence-sapping third-down conversions.Just as much of a factor in the recent rut, though, could be the seemingly illogical problem of players trying too hard to help stop the slide. When youre struggling and youve got a bunch of really good guys, guys that really care, guys tend to try to do a little too much, including myself, coach Mike Zimmer said.Instead of allowing guys to make plays, you try to make plays for them. We just need to settle down. We need to do what we do. Get back to being the Vikings defense again.Washingtons Kirk Cousins averaged around 2+ seconds to release the ball when he dropped back to pass last week, when the Vikings (5-4) lost their fourth straight game . Detroits Matthew Stafford and Chicagos Jay Cutler followed similar quick-throwing strategies in the games before that. Were going to have to adjust how we do some things with the pass rush, Zimmer said. The Vikings have only three sacks over the past four games. Not coincidentally, each of the past three opponents have converted exactly half of their third downs. If you look at the tape, theyre getting the ball out quick. Theyre running boots. Theyre running screens. Theyre doing all the things to slow us down in the rush, defensive end Everson Griffen said.We cant get frustrated. Weve just got to get out there and keep rushing. Sacks come in bunches. Do we want more sacks? Yeah, but Id rather have wins than sacks.Missed tackles have a problem, too, none more costly than in overtime against the Lions when cornerback Xavier Rhodes and safety Harrison Smith both whiffed during Golden Tates winning touchdown reception .The Arizona Cardinals (4-4-1) will bring plenty of challenges for the Vikings to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, with running back David Johnson chief among them.Still, its worth remembering that the Vikings defense, despite the lag of late, remains a daunting matchup for opponents, too. The Cardinals were raving this week about Zimmer and his scheme.Hes one of the best defensive play-callers in the game, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said. Hes just got a wealth of knowledge. He does a great job of trying to break down opponents and trying to neutralize the things that they do well, and you couple that with an unbelievable amount of talent. After missing nickel cornerback Captain Munnerlyn against the Redskins because of an ankle injury, the Vikings should be back to full strength in the secondary. It definitely was a tough, tough situation for me to watch the game, Munnerlyn said. I kind of got mad here and there, probably kicked some boxes or something, punched a box here and there.---For more NFL coverage: and . "Trying to breathe," he said with a grin. Bernier stopped 42 of 43 shots on Monday night, including all 22 in a hectic middle frame, his heroic performance propelling the Leafs toward an undue point in their final game before the Christmas break. . In the lead up - which seemed to begin the moment Mike Geiger blew the whistle in Houston last Thursday night - the Impact rumour mill went into overdrive. The speculation went into meltdown mode, of the golden nugget variety. .J. -- Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. RIO DE JANEIRO -- David Rudisha glanced to his left twice as he came round the final bend, waiting for the challenge to come. It didnt. He didnt let it.The world-record holder surged across the line to retain his Olympic title in the 800 meters on Monday, giving no one else a chance and becoming the first man in more than half a century to win back-to-back golds over two laps at the games. This is one of my greatest moments, to come here and defend my title, Rudisha said. There is nothing as great for an athlete as to maintain his performance.Rudisha won in 1 minute, 42.15 seconds, nothing on the incredible 1:40.91 he produced for his wire-to-wire win in London four years ago. But this was always going to be about the medal and not the clock, especially after a heavy downpour earlier in the evening left Rudisha and the others with a damp track at the Olympic Stadium. If theres one thing the Kenyan hates, its running in the wet.Rudisha still won well from Algerias Taoufik Makhloufi, who ran a national record time of 1:42.61 to add an 800 silver here to his gold in the 1,500 at the last Olympics. Clayton Murphy powered through in the final 50 meters for bronze and a PB of 1:42.93, overhauling Frances Pierre-Ambroise Bosse on his way to a long-awaited podium finish for the U.S. It was the first medal in the 800 for an American since Johnny Gray in 1992.Super exciting to race him, Murphy said of Rudisha, and hopefully not the last time I get to race him.Rudisha smiled at the end, a broad, beaming smile, relieved maybe after what started as a trying season when he lost a couple of times in the Diamond League and was beaten into third -- third! -- at the Kenyan trials. He freely offered up hugs to the other medalists, too, as he draped the red, black and green Kenyan flag across his shoulders once again. His legacy as one of the greatest 800 runners was pretty firm already, but he cemented it in Rio de Janeiro: The 27-year-old Rudisha has now won four of the last five major titles and the oonly one missing -- the 2013 worlds -- he was injured for. With no strong challenger coming at him -- not in this race and not in any general sense, either -- Rudisha has the potential to make history with a third straight gold in four years in Tokyo. He wants to be the best, he is the best at it, he knows hes the best, said American Boris Berian, who was eighth. Its that confidence right there. He takes it out and he has that confidence to hold on.Rudishas teammate, Alfred Kipketer, set a fast pace from the start -- like a bullet, Rudisha said -- and the defending champion had to hold himself back from getting into an early scrap. Instead, Rudisha waited for the back straight to stretch out his long legs and move past Kipketer. He built a cushion, not a big one, but he never seemed likely to get caught. Those two quick looks to the left as he approached the home straight let him know that he had it.Richard Snell of New Zealand was the last man to retain his Olympic title in the 800, at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Some formidable recent 800 runners, including current IAAF President Sebastian Coe and Wilson Kipketer, didnt even win once in the 800 at the Olympics. Coe, an Olympic champion at 1,500, consistently says that Rudisha is one of the best athletes the sport has had.For Rudisha, this victory was absolute confirmation, if he needed it, that hes deserving of such praise from former champions. Rudisha himself could be confirmation, his country really does need it, that Kenyas distance-running culture of grass-roots talent and hard work is not being taken over by doping. The Olympics comes only every four years, Rudisha said. It means you have to be very disciplined, dedicated, focused and do the right thing to get here.---Follow Gerald Imray on Twitter at the Rio Games at White NFL Jerseys Cheap Youth NFL Jerseys Wholesale Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys China Jerseys Wholesale Cheap Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys 2019 Wholesale Black NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Store Stitched Jerseys Wholesale NFL Womens Jerseys Cheap NFL Autographed Jerseys Jerseys NFL China NFL T-shirts From China Wholesale Authentic Jerseys Youth NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

BELFAST -- Ronnie OSullivan came through a rare showdown with Jimmy White to book his place in the third round of the Northern Ireland Open. .The 54-year-old White, who has slipped to 108 in the world rankings, was facing OSullivan in the final stages of a ranking event for the first time in six years.Veteran White hinted at an upset by taking a scrappy opening frame before OSullivan hit back with a 141 clearance to level the scores. With both players struggling to find top form OSullivan added two more frames before wrapping up a 4-1 victory with a break of 95.Earlier, John Higgins scored the eighth 147 break of his career as he also booked his place in round three in Belfast. The 41-year-old achieved the feat in the final frame of his 4-1 win over Sam Craigie, setting up the maximum with a brilliant cross-double on the final red.Higgins is looking to claim his third consecutive ranking event title after recent wins at the China Championship and last weeks Champion of Champions event in Coventry. He is the fifth player to hit a 147 on the tour so far this year after Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Stephen Maguire, Shaun Murphy and Alfie Burden.Mark Allen, Kyren Wilson and Barry Hawkins were among the other winners on Wednesday, but world semi-finalist Alan McManus was beaten 4-0 by world number 93 Sanderson Lam. . It was the second consecutive win for the Pacers (2-5), who lost their first five preseason games. Jeff Teague led the Hawks (1-5) with 17 points and eight assists and Al Horford had 12 points and seven rebounds. Mike Scott scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half. . Anthony Calvillo, through 20 CFL seasons, was frequently invincible and largely stoic in the heat of competition. But underneath the professional exterior he was, and is, compellingly human. .Y. -- Bills receiver Stevie Johnson has a bone to pick with the NFL schedule maker. LOS ANGELES -- There was no text message that specifically gave Derrick Rose permission to have sex with his ex-girlfriend, but for the NBA star the signs were clear, he testified Friday in a lawsuit that accuses him and two friends of raping the woman. It started with a morning text message from the woman saying Rose was the reason she wakes up horny, including a photo of herself in her nightshirt and continued with other texts about sex throughout the day.Rose said he surmised that the horny text had triggered consent from that point on, and that was only reinforced for him by their sexual history, sex acts she engaged in with him and his personal assistant that night at his house and an invite hours later to her apartment.I was assuming that all of us going over there that she wanted to have sex with all of us, Rose testified in a matter-a-fact demeanor. His description of the incident differed dramatically from the womans testimony, which lasted a day and a half in Los Angeles federal court. The 30-year-old woman denied having sex earlier in the evening at Roses Beverly Hills mansion, though her testimony was clouded by her claims that she blacked out and could only piece together the evening through short flashes of memory and by reviewing a flurry of text messages she apparently was able to send despite being drunk and, possibly, drugged. At the end of testimony, Roses lawyer asked a judge to declare a mistrial because of a profane text message that he said the womans lawyers had failed to reveal until Friday. The judge said he would take the issue up Tuesday morning before the Knicks point guard is scheduled to resume testimony. The judge ordered Rose to return to the stand even if it means missing a preseason game the night before in New York.Rose, 28, was called to the stand by the plaintiffs lawyer as a hostile witness to help make the plaintiffs case that the woman never gave consent to have sex with him and his longtime friends and assistants, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen.Consent is the main issue for the jury of six women and two men. The men, all friends since adolescence in Chicago, have denied the allegations and said the woman consented. The Associated Press is not naming the woman because it generally does not identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault. .Rose said the only time the woman said, Stop was after she let them in her apartment and they all headed for the bedroom together. She told us, `One at a time, he said. He and Hampton waited on the sofa while Allen was inside. The woman testified she never let the men in her place and remembers waking to see them all in her bedroom. She recalled Allen on top of her at one point and, at another, Rose pulling her to the side of the bed as she tried to roll off.Rose said he never received any text from the woman telling him she wanted to have sex with him and the two others. But he had assumed from what had transpired and the fact she had never told him no.In my mind, she consented every time we had sex, he said. Why wouldnt she do it that time?Attorney Waukeen McCoy suggested Rose had no remorse about the night.Im sensitive to it, Rose replied, but added, I feel I didnt do anything wrong.Rose hadnt seen the woman since breaking up months earlier, but invited her over for drinks that night. She came with a friend and after a shot or two of tequila she became sexually aggressive, which turned him off.Rose retreated to his room, where he rebuffed further advances until a friend removed her from the room.About 20 minutes later, he said he walked outside and saw Hampton having sex with her by the side of the pool, and she pulled Rose over to join them, though he broke away and returned to his room.Rose said the woman was acting a bit abnormally, but he didnt think she was drunk.Rose said he once had feelings for the woman and thought they had a bond. He was once asked if he thought she was after his money. Not at that time, he said.Defense lawyers have described her as a gold digger and suggested she had sued for money. She denied that saying: I didnt wish him any harm, I wanted him to be accountable. The woman didnt report the incident to police until she filed suit more than two years later. Los Angeles police still have an open investigation.
