NEW YORK (AP) Curtis McElhinney is getting more comfortable as his career progresses Wholesale Armani Watts Jersey , and it’s been showing on the ice.

The veteran backup stopped 25 shots for his second shutout of the season and seventh of his career as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New York Rangers 4-0 on Thursday night.

”I just feel like I’m getting better and better,” said the 34-year-old McElhinney, who is in his second season with Toronto after spending the previous four with Columbus. ”I feel certainly more comfortable about my game than where I did five years ago.”

Article continues below ...
McElhinney is now 5-4-0 in nine starts this season and lowered his goals-against average to 2.25 – the lowest of his career in a season while making more than one start.

James van Riemsdyk, Patrick Marleau, Zach Hyman and Justin Holl scored for the Maple Leafs in their second straight shutout and fourth straight win. Toronto also completed a sweep of the three-game season series with the Rangers.

It came one night after Frederik Andersen had 25 saves in a 5-0 win at home against the Islanders Wholesale Mason Rudolph Jersey , giving Toronto back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season. The Maple Leafs extended their shutout streak to 142 minutes, 17 seconds since Dallas’ Tyler Seguin scored late in the second period of Toronto’s 4-1 win last Thursday.

”We did a great job in front of the net,” McElhinney said. ”The biggest takeaway from the game tonight and even the last one was smart decisions with the puck at the blue line.”

Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock likes how his team has played lately, improving to 7-2-3 in their last 12 and sitting three points behind second-place Boston in the Atlantic Division.

”We think we’re getting better,” he said. ”We think we have a chance to be quite a bit better so we’re just a work in progress. … We’re deeper than we’ve been Wholesale Korey Toomer Jersey , we have four lines.”

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist was pulled early in the second period after giving up four goals on 13 shots. Ondrej Pavelec came on and stopped all 19 shots he faced. New York, shut out for just the second time this season, has lost eight of its last 12.

The Rangers were playing for the first time since winning at San Jose last Thursday in their last game before the All-Star break, but coach Alain Vigneault didn’t want to use the layoff as an excuse.

”We had two really good practices prior to this, so we should have been better than this Nyheim Hines Jersey Elite ,” he said.

McElhinney had two nice saves on Rick Nash about six minutes into the third, first on a shot from the right circle and then a tip attempt in close six seconds later. McElhinney also denied Jimmy Vesey in front midway through the period.

Toronto built a 2-0 lead in the first period and then quickly adding to it in the second.

Marleau scored 52 seconds into the middle period off a rebound of a shot by Nazem Kadri for his 17th.

Hyman took a pass from William Nylander, skated in on Lundqvist and went forehand to backhand before putting it in from the left side for his 10th at 3:05 to make it 4-0 and chase Lundqvist.

Holl got Toronto on the board 8:42 into the game as his shot from the right side beyond the faceoff circle beat Lundqvist, who was being screened by Hyman, and rang off the left post and in. It was the defenseman’s second career goal – and second in two nights after being called up from Toronto of the AHL for his NHL debut Wednesday.

The Maple Leafs made it 2-0 when van Riemsdyk put a backhand past Lundqvist for his 20th with 4:37 left.

NOTES: Toronto also had consecutive shutouts at New Jersey on Nov. 18 and against Montreal on Nov. 18. … The Maple Leafs were without D Ron Hainsey (illness) for the second straight game. LW Matt Martin was a healthy scratch for the fourth straight game. … Rangers F Chris Kreider missed his 14th straight game due to a blood clot in his right arm and ensuing rib surgery to alleviate it. D Kevin Shattenkirk is also out while recovering from knee surgery. … New York F Pavel Buchnevich left the game after a collision with Toronto’s Jake Gardiner about halfway through the second period and did not return.

B Doug Martin missing most of last season due to injuries and suspension that will extend three games into 2017 Authentic Mark Lowe Jersey , GM Jason Licht and coach Dirk Koetter figure to be interested in versatile runner/receiver to help Winston end club’s long playoff drought. Top priority in free agency was adding speedy receiver to feature opposite Evans, Winston’s favorite target. Licht and Koetter addressed that with signing of DeSean Jackson. Adding DT Chris Baker in free agency strengthened interior defensive line, however, still need dynamic pass rusher.

21. DETROIT LIONS (9-8)

LAST SEASON: Detroit surged atop NFC North with eight wins in nine-game stretch and became first NFL team to come back from fourth-quarter deficits to win eight games in single season. Lions, though, closed with three straight setbacks to spoil shot at winning division title for first time since 1993. Lions lost at Seattle 26-6 in wild-card game, extending postseason losing streak to nine games over 25 years. QB Matthew Stafford overcame retirement of star WR Calvin Johnson with one of his best years despite finishing season with injured finger on throwing hand.

THEY NEED: DE, LB, DB.

THEY DON’T NEED: QB, WR, OL.

POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: DE Taco Charlton, Michigan; DE Derek Barnett, Tennessee; LB Haason Reddick , Temple; S Jabrill Peppers Tracy Walker Super Bowl LI Jersey , Michigan.

OUTLOOK: Detroit filled holes in free agency by signing OT Rick Wagner and OG T.J. Lang, but second-year GM created one by releasing injury-prone LB DeAndre Levy. Drafting player or two to play LB seems a priority, as does finding DE to play opposite Ezekiel Ansah. Lions also need help in secondary to line up with standout CB Darius Slay and 31-year-old S Glover Quin.

23. NEW YORK GIANTS (11-6)

LAST SEASON: Ben McAdoo got Giants back to playoffs for first time since 2011 season, but postseason was short-lived as Aaron Rodgers and Packers shredded Steve Spagnuolo’s much-improved defense. Offense was a disappointment all year with no running game, porous line and no options on outside other than Odell Beckham Jr.

THEY NEED: RB, T, LB, DT, TE, QB for post-Eli Manning era.

THEY DON’T NEED: WR, CB, C, S.

POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: LB Jarrad Davis, Florida; RB Dalvin Cook Sam Darnold Jersey Elite , Florida State; T Garret Bolles, Utah.

OUTLOOK: Despite not having much cap space, GM Jerry Reese did plenty in offseason. He released veteran WR Victor Cruz and RB Rashad Jennings, re-signed DE Jason Pierre-Paul and LB Keenan Robinson, and got free agent WR Brandon Marshall and OL D.J. Fluker to sign. Ten defensive starters are back. New York is even taking chance on righting career of former Jets QB Geno Smith. Only major players lost were DT Johnathan Hankins, PK Robbie Gould and OT Marshall Newhouse. Giants don’t gamble in draft. Unless there is tie in rankings or major concern about off-field problems, it’s always best player available regardless of position. Cook is has had off-field problems; his talent makes him risk worth taking. An out-of-box pick would be Michigan DB Jabrill Peppers, game breaker as kick returner and wild card for linebacker or safety.

26. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (11-6-1)

LAST SEASON: Once again Seattle took advantage of weak NFC West and claimed fourth division title under Pete Carroll. But it was not typical Seahawks season. Vaunted defense was still fifth overall in NFL, but exposed late in year by season-ending injury to star safety Earl Thomas. Seattle’s once reliable run game struggled in the post-Marshawn Lynch era and fell to 25th in NFL. QB Russell Wilson played through ankle and knee injuries most of season and was rarely given adequate protection. And despite all those issues, Seahawks won at least one playoff game for fifth straight season before losing to Atlanta in divisional round.

THEY NEED: CB, S, OL, DL.

THEY DON’T NEED: LB, RB Josh Sitton Jersey Elite , TE.

POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: CB Kevin King, Washington; S Obi Melifonwu, Connecticut; OL Cam Robinson, Alabama; OL Garett Boles, Utah; CB Chidobe Awuzie, Colorado.

OUTLOOK: GM John Schneider has to start looking toward future. Seahawks don’t need to be rebuilt but are getting older in some key spots, especially on defense. Expect Schneider to be aggressive in draft restocking defensive line and secondary. Don’t be surprised if he trades early-round selection for picks later. Seattle’s biggest moves in free agency were offensive line and run game, and depth at linebacker. Schneider will certainly seek more options for offensive line that was Seattle’s biggest weakness in 2016.

28. DALLAS COWBOYS (13-4)

LAST SEASON: One of best drafts in franchise history led to sea change, with QB Dak Prescott replacing 10-year starter Tony Romo, directing club-record 11-game winning streak, earning Offensive Rookie of Year honors and ultimately sending Romo to broadcast booth. NFL rushing champion Ezekiel Elliott was other rookie star as Cowboys won NFC East for second time in three years and took top seed in NFC playoffs before losing to Green Bay in divisional round. Defense again struggled to make game-changing plays and gave up winning drive to Packers after Cowboys twice pulled even in final five minutes.

THEY NEED: DE, CB, S.

THEY DON’T NEED: C, G Wholesale Armani Watts Jersey , RB.

POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: CB Adoree Jackson, Southern Cal; DE Charles Harris, Missouri; DE Derek Barnett, Tennessee; CB Marlon Humphrey, Alabama; DE Takkarist McKinley, UCLA.

OUTLOOK: Because CBs Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr left in free agency, it’s now hard to say which need is greater, pass rushing or depth at cornerback. With DE Randy Gregory out entire season for substance-abuse violations, getting to quarterback probably still top priority. KANSAS CITY Terrell Edmunds Super Bowl LI Jersey , Mo. (AP) Derek Carr had been pounded enough by the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominant defensive front that nobody could blame him for unloading a pass to Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch a bit early Sunday.

Well, except for Lynch.

The pass into the right flat set up Lynch like a golf ball on a tee, and Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson ran right through him with a bone-jarring tackle that perfectly summed up Oakland’s day.

Article continues below ...
”Whenever you get a chance to hit `Beast Mode’ when he’s not looking, you better take the shot,” Johnson said with a smile. ”Carr served him up right there. I’m sure he’ll have a talk with Carr after that one, but I had to take my shot.”

It’s not like Carr didn’t take enough shots of his own.

The quarterback with the uncanny ability to unload the ball quickly was dropped three times in the Raiders’ 26-15 loss. Things didn’t go that well when he managed to get the ball off Authentic Freddie Freeman Jersey , either – he was 24 of 41 for 211 yards with a late touchdown pass and two interceptions.

”Just frustrated. With myself,” he said. ”There’s obviously going to be plays you’re going to want back, but that’s every game. I saw the coverage fine. I was going to certain places with the ball that I thought were right. It was one of those things. At the end of the day it wasn’t good enough.”

Asked to rate his young franchise quarterback’s performance, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio was blunt: ”He’s the triggerman of our offense. The offense didn’t get done what we needed to get done.”

Carr’s performance was even more surprising given the situation.

The Chiefs had been gutted by the lowly New York Jets last week, allowing 331 yards passing to Josh McCown in a 38-31 loss. They had also suspended their top cornerback, Marcus Peters Authentic Andre Dawson Jersey , after a series of embarrassing incidents, including his flag-toss episode in the Meadowlands.

Then there’s the fact Carr, who got Michael Crabtree back from suspension, had torched the Chiefs when they met in October. He threw for 417 yards and three touchdowns that afternoon, including the winning score to Crabtree on the final play.

”We had to come in and set the tone,” Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones said. ”The defensive line Authentic Chris Taylor Jersey , the fourth play of the game we got a sack. It was all about affecting the quarterback, because we know he likes to get the ball out fast. And we affected him.”

Carr seems to get affected by the Chiefs a lot.

Yes, he dominated their matchup in Oakland this season, but that game has proven to be an exception to the rule. Three of his 12 worst games in terms of QB rating have come against the Chiefs, including a career-worst performance last season, when he was 17 of 41 for 117 yards in a 21-13 defeat.

There was also the game two years ago Jaleel Scott Jersey Elite , when he tossed three second-half picks in a 34-20 loss.

The plucky Carr was still slinging it at the end Sunday, refusing to give up. He threw a late touchdown pass to Jared Cook and converted the 2-point conversion to make it a two-possession game in the closing minutes But his second pick at the goal line ended any comeback effort.

It also may have crippled their season-long comeback effort.

The Raiders had won two straight and three of four to climb back into the AFC West race, but any chance to control their chances went by the wayside at Arrowhead Stadium.

”We’ve been knowing (this was an elimination game) for a while,” Del Rio said. ”We’ve talked plenty about that and we’ve been asked a lot, because of where we put ourselves. A situation where we’ve got to win the next one and string together wins and hope it’s enough.”

Brazil’s selection to host this year’s edition means that it is the second time that the largest South American economy will be staging this global showpiece. The first time was in 1950 when Brazil lost to Uruguay in the final. This also means that it is the first time in 36 years that the tournament is being staged in South America. The last time it was hosted there was in 1978 when Argentina and the host nation won the tournament.

31 countries join Brazil

After qualification competitions that started in June 2015 Authentic J.R. Richard Jersey , the national football teams of 31 nations will be joining Brazil to participate in the finals. 64 games will be played in total and these will take part in 12 cities across Brazil. History is on the verge of being made as this is the first time that goal-line technology will be used.

All previous winners have qualified

The host country included, all other world cup winners since the inception of the competition have qualified. They are Italy, Argentina, England, Spain, Germany Dalton Schultz Super Bowl LI Jersey , Uruguay and France. The defending champions are Spain. They beat Netherlands 1-0 in the 2010 competitions held in South Africa.

This is the fifth time that the world cup will be staged in South America. All the previous four editions have been won by South American countries so it remains to be seen if this jinx will be broken by European teams this time round.

Top football stars come together

The World Cup will see some of the best talents in the world of football descend on Brazil for the world’s biggest football event. These are the finest players from top leagues in Europe. Barcelona and Argentina star, Lionel Messi, is leading the pack of the most talented football players on the planet.

He will be joined by the likes of Argentina marksman and Manchester City forward, Sergio 'Kun’ Aguero. Other stars expected here are the likes of reigning World Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo who has just won a Champions League medal with Real Madrid and he will be donning Portugal colours. England will be represented by the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard while Spain will be banking on Brazilian-born hotshot and Atletico Madrid player Diego Costa to lead the attack line for La Furia Roja.

Yaya Toure, Santi Carzola Trent Brown Jersey Elite , Mesut Ozil, David Silva, Eden Hazard and Edin Dzeko are some of the football stars from the English Premier League who will be gracing the event. One notable omission is Samir Nasri, the Manchester City player who, though was in scintillating form for his club, was left out by Didier Deschamps Wholesale Will Hernandez Jersey , the French national team coach.

Brazil are the hot favourites

Pundits are putting their money on Brazil to win the World Cup 2014 for a record sixth time given that they are the host nation. With big-name players plying their trade in major European leagues led by Barcelona's Neymar, Brazil is certainly not shot of talent. Also, given that no European country has won World Cup in South America, this could be the year that Brazil finally wins the most coveted football trophy in front of their supporters. Their only opportunity to win it at home ended when they lost to Uruguay in 1950. Most Brazilians will be hoping for a repeat of 2013 success of their team in the FIFA Confederations Cup that saw them brush aside Spain 3-0 to win the cup.

Prize money

FIFA announced that the total prize money is US$576 million, which includes US$70 that will be paid to domestic clubs. This is an increase of 37% from the prize money that was allocated to the 2010 edition in South Africa. Each team is entitled to US$1.5 million to cater for their preparation costs, the amount of which will be paid before the start of the competition.

The eventual winners will pocket US$35 million with the runners up taking home US$25 million. Other teams will also pocket different amounts of money depending on the level of the competition they exit.

As has been the norm with previous World Cup editions Wholesale Randall Telfer Jersey , FIFA will pay domestic clubs whose players are playing for their national teams in the tournament. A total of sum of US$70 million is slated to be paid.

The Colorado Avalanche players were supposed to be cleaning out their lockers this weekend Authentic Jackie Robinson Jersey , talking about their return to the playoffs and speaking optimistically of next season.

At least that was the assumption when their first-round series with the Predators, the NHL’s top seed, shifted to Nashville for Game 5 on Friday.

The Predators took a 3-1 series lead into their home game and were expected to close out Colorado, but the Avalanche proved to be a tough out by rallying in the final five minutes to win 2-1 and send the series to Denver for Game 6 on Sunday night.

Article continues below ...
“We’ve got a series again going home, and it’s going to be exciting Wholesale Chad Thomas Jersey ,” Colorado captain Gabe Landeskog said after the win Friday.

Landeskog scored the equalizer with 4:11 left and Sven Andrighetto won it with an odd-man rush with 1:28 remaining. The late rally was made possible by the play of Andrew Hammond, the Avalanche’s No. 3 goaltender who was thrust into the spotlight after injuries to Semyon Varlamov and Jonathan Bernier.

Hammond made a career-high 44 saves and outplayed Nashville’s Vezina Trophy favorite, Pekka Rinne, in stunning the Predators.

It was the first time in four tries Nashville has failed to win a game with a chance to end the series dating to last year. But don’t expect the President’s Trophy winners to hang their heads.

“We can’t be depressed in here and sit and stew,” Colton Sissons told The Tennessean after Friday’s game. “We’ve got to move on and be professionals. We’ve been here before and we’ll be ready for Game 6 Wholesale Nate Solder Jersey , that’s for sure.”

Nashville still leads the series 3-2 and has already won a game on the road. It was that Game 4 victory that had everyone thinking Game 5 was a formality, but the gritty Avalanche proved to be resilient.

Colorado has made it a series despite mounting injuries. Varlamov’s season ended before the start of the playoffs with a lower-body injury, top defenseman Erik Johnson was lost to a knee injury with a week left in the season and Bernier went down in the second period of Game 4.

Defenseman Samuel Girard, acquired from Nashville in November as part of the three-team deal that sent Matt Duchene to Ottawa, missed the games in Denver with an upper-body injury but returned for Game 5.

Still Nathan Shepherd Jersey Elite , the Avalanche have pressed on, are playing loose hockey and have the Predators’ attention.

“It’s hockey,” Predators forward Austin Watson told The Tennessean. “There’s another team out there. I don’t know if you guys see that. They’re playing pretty well.”

Nashville will get back forward Ryan Hartman after he served a one-game suspension for his hit on Colorado center Carl Soderberg in Game 4. His return will bolster an already deep lineup that has scored 17 goals in the five-game series.

But Colorado has shown it won’t go away. The Avalanche scored the first goal in the first three games and their three losses were close. Another close game in the third period Sunday could play in their favor.

“I’ve said it all year long, haven’t I? This is a special group,” Landeskog said. “It’s too early to have the season end. We have way too much hockey in us left Wholesale Geron Christian Jersey , and way too much fight. We’re not going to let this go easy. So we keep working.”

ST. Nick Nelson Jersey . PAUL, Minn. -- Devan Dubnyk was on edge as the final 35 seconds ticked off. That seems odd for someone who has been as cool as can be for three straight games.Dubnyk stopped 29 shots for his third straight shutout and 22nd of his career as the Minnesota Wild beat the Dallas Stars 4-0 on Saturday night.Usually when it gets to a 4-0 game youre happy with the win and if the shutout happens, great. But you dont really get nervous, he said. That was probably the first time I started to get a little nervous toward the end of a 4-0 game. But its fun.Mikael Granlund, Nino Niederreiter, Eric Staal and Tyler Graovac scored for Minnesota, which improved to 6-2-1.Dubnyk didnt have to make any spectacular saves in establishing a new personal best scoreless stretch of 180 minutes. Hes stopped 94 straight shots. The last goal he allowed was in overtime last Saturday.I dont know if he can do it for 73 more games, but right now hes doing very well, said Wild coach Bruce Boudreau.Dallas, which has just four goals in its last four games, hit the post twice. We know what we do well when were playing well, said Jason Spezza, who returned after missing two games. But this year weve had not the results we want, so we have to get back to finding our game and be a little more consistent with it.A key to the Wilds early-season success has been offensive contributions from all players. Eighteen players have accounted for Minnesotas 32 goals and a league-best 18 now have points.Granlund added his name to that goal list to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead in the first with the Wilds first short-handed goal of the season.Off a turnover by Jason Spezza, Mikko Koivu deked John Klingberg with a toe drag in the Dallas zone before centering to Granlund, who tucked the puck behind Kari Lehtonen. Granlund was the only Wild player to appear in all the teams previous eight games without scoring.Lehtonen finished with 11 saves. We got to be better on the power play and not give up that short-handed goal, and try to at least get momentum if were not going to score, said captain Jamie Benn.Dallas had a 13-1 advantage in second-period shots.Dubnyk wasnt worried.I know that at some point were going to play, and were going to play the way we need to and thats exactly what happened, he said. We go out there and again for the third straight game we have a great third period when we have a lead and we get some big goals.Niederreiter gave the Wild a 2-0 lead early in the third with a wrist shot from the left circle, before Staal and Graovac scored less than three minutes apart. Graovacs goal was the first of his career.I know I had a lot of family watching that game, said Graovac, called up from Iowa of the AHL earlier in the day. Its not just me scoring that goal. It was good to see him. He was all smiles; he was really up to speed for a guy who was just hospitalized.Quinn played in 83 percent of the defensive snaps during a 9-6 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, an uncommonly high number that was partly due to fellow defensive end Eugene Sims going through concussion protocol. On the bus ride back from LAX late Sunday night, he sat behind Fisher and went over some film with him. The Los Angeles Kings have put together their longest winning streak of the season and could be adding a key piece to their team. Air Max 97/1 Wotherspoon Pas Cher .The Kings may have Marian Gaborik in the lineup for the first time this season as they seek their fifth win in a row Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks, who hope to wrap up their final Circus Trip with a winning record.Los Angeles (11-9-1) has outscored its opponents 15-8 while winning four straight, all in regulation. The Kings havent won five straight regulation contests since Dec. 26, 2015, to Jan. 2.The possible addition of Gaborik could keep the Kings surging, but a decision on him suiting up is expected to be based on how he does during a morning skate Saturday, according to a website published by the team.I feel good, Gaborik said Friday. (Playing Saturday is) the plan, so obviously (Saturday) well have a morning skate and go from there, but I think I should be good to go.Gaborik was placed on injured reserve Sept. 26 after breaking his right foot during the World Cup of Hockey, the latest serious injury in a lengthy list as he enters his 16th NHL season. A three-time 40-goal scorer, Gaborik needs 14 more for 400 in his career, and has 14 in 31 career games versus Chicago. With Gaborik out and Anze Kopitar struggling (two goals in 19 games), Jeff Carter has been carrying the Kings offense. He started the game with a 3-pointer and a flashy, turnaround jumper, but never went off to help Indiana pull away until the fourth quarter when he scored three times, including a basket to give the Pacers a nine-point lead.Mostly it was a game of runs.Turner and Glenn Robinson III made back-to-back 3s in the first quarter to help Indiana get off to a good start. The welcome wasnt quite the same for Roy Hibbert when he checked into the game late in the first quarter. Hibbert, who played for the Pacers for seven seasons from 2008-15, was met with scattered boos when he entered the lineup. The jeers were noticeably louder when he first got the ball, though his hook-shot in the middle of a 9-0 run in the first quarter quieted fans.FIRST QUARTER SPARKHibbert actually created a bit of a spark off the bench in the first quarter. He set a screen twice for Belinelli that cleared him for open baskets, including one he was fouled on before he completed the and-one. Then Hibbert made back-to-back shots, including one to get the Hornets within a point.UP NEXTHornets: At Washington on Wednesday night for their third game of a five-game road trip.Pacers: At Miami on Wednesday night, where they have lost three straight regular season games. ST. LOUIS -- Kyle Hendricks was so good Monday night he even surprised himself. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before giving up Jeremy Hazelbakers leadoff home run, and the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 to close in on the NL Central crown.I never thought Id get that close to one, Hendricks said. A guy who throws to contact and doesnt throw hard, you dont think about it. You can run into one of those special days and you think, why not?My pregame bullpen was probably the worst Ive had all year. Hopefully it clicks once the game starts, and it did.All the way until the ninth inning.Hazelbaker drove an 0-2 pitch into the right-field stands for his 12th homer before Hendricks (15-7), the major league ERA leader at 2.03, was relieved by Aroldis Chapman. If youre going to give it up, at least its that way and not a cheap hit, Hendricks said. I just left the ball up and he got it. It was just a changeup and I wanted to throw it in the dirt and get him to chase.Hazelbaker was looking for a changeup.I wasnt surprised by it, he said. Hed been throwing that pitch all night. It was a good pitch he threw me. I was able to handle it like I wanted to.Ben Zobrist and Dexter Fowler homered for the Cubs, who lowered their magic number to three for clinching the division crown. They lead the second-place Cardinals by 17 games and can wrap up the NL Central with a three-game sweep in St. Louis. The Cardinals remained a half-game behind the Mets for the leagues second wild card. New York lost 8-1 at Washington.Soon after Hazelbakers shot cleared the fence, teammates went to the mound to talk to Hendricks -- leading to an animated argument between Cubs manager Joe Maddon and plate umpire Joe West.Maddon was ejected for the third time this season, and Chapman entered to finish the one-hitter. He got three outs for his 14th save with Chicago, and is 34 for 37 overall this year with the Cubs and Yankees. After the pitching change, Maddon argued some more with West before leaving. It was a misinterpretation there, Maddon said. We needed more time there. I needed the catcher to go to the mound. We were denied. I made my stand.I truly believe I was proper in that, but this is not about that. This is Kyles night.Hendricks, who threw 96 pitches, struck out seven and walked two.Pretty special night all around, he said. It was fun, man.It was the fourth no-hit bid broken up in the ninth inning this season. Cubs teammate Jaake Arrieta tossed the lone no-hitter in the majors this year, winning 16-0 at Cincinnati on April 21. Buccaneers Jerseys China. Hendricks got some help from his defense, especially in the sixth.Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, deep in the hole, went to his knees on the outfield grass for a sliding stop of Jhonny Peraltas sharp grounder and made a strong throw to first.Right fielder Jason Heyward then reached into the stands to catch Hazelbakers foul fly, practically wrestling with a fan in a Cardinals jersey for the ball.He was unbelievably great, Maddon said about Hendricks. Unfortunately, he didnt get the no-hitter. They didnt have good swings against him all night. He was in charge the entire game. It was a spectacular performance. Kyle was the star.Hendricks control made him tough to hit, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said.He was pushing the corners all day long and hes been doing that most of the season and didnt give us a whole lot, Matheny said.Mike Leake (9-10) pitched six innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter. Leake, making his second start since a stint on the disabled list due to shingles, allowed six hits and four runs (three earned).Anthony Rizzo had an RBI single for the Cubs. The last time the Cubs won a division title was 2008. LAS VEGAS -- Welterweight world titleholder Jessie Vargas casually strode into a ballroom at The Wynn resort on Wednesday, laughing, joking and greeting writers by name. He didnt seem to have a care in the world. In March, Vargas was the underdog when he knocked out then-undefeated former U.S. Olympian Sadam Ali in the ninth round to win a vacant world title. Vargas was confident then, but now the confidence he exudes seems tenfold as he heads into his first defense against the great Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night (Top Rank PPV, 9 ET) at the Thomas & Mack Center. To me, its just another fight, another opponent, said Vargas, who will be fighting in his hometown. It really isnt just another fight or opponent, however. Vargas is in the biggest fight of his life, on a worldwide stage. He is about to face Pacquiao, a boxing legend, the icon of the Philippines and the first sitting senator to fight for a world title.Even though he has never been in a fight of this magnitude, Vargas said he has been able to handle the spotlight and keep calm because of past experiences leading to this moment.Whats probably helped me in my career is that Ive fought on major cards before, Floyd [Mayweather] undercards, huge events, Pacquiao undercards, pay-per-view undercards, where I first became world champion [as a junior welterweight], Vargas said. They were large events and my fights got a lot of attention. I feel it prepared me for this situation. So I know what to expect.Me now being in this position, its nothing new to me. I got a little taste of it before. I knew what I was in for and I am ready for it. Now its my time. Now its time for everyone to talk about me come Saturday night. He seems like a good guy, but as soon as the bell rings its all business. One reason for Vargas confident demeanor is the similar cool and focus displayed by his trainer, former pro fighter Dewey Cooper, who enters his second fight at the helm of Vargas corner.Im a level-headed guy so its another fight for me. I dont stress. Were looking forward for this opportunity, Cooper said. This is what we do this sport for. We dont do it to be B team. We do this to be the very best in the world in every aspect.Vargas is 27 and in his prime and Pacquiao is 37, coming out of a brief retirement and in the twilight of a career in which he became the only boxer to win world titles in eight weight classes. It is that age difference -- not the résumé -- that is meaningful to Vargas, who knows that boxing is generally a young mans sport. What I am focused on is that I am in my prime, Vargas said. I have a lot to show and I have a lot to give in this sport, and on [Saturday] I am going to perform at the highest level.Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) is coming off one of his best performances in years, when he outclassed and outpointed rival Timothy Bradley Jr. in their third fight in April, followed by a retirement that lasted for five months. Vargas said he loves that Pacquiao looked good last time out so he can get credit for beating him.Im happy that he was able to give that performance so when I defeat Manny Pacquiao, they will see that I beat a good Manny Pacquiao who is still performing at the highest level, Vargas said. Thats the Manny Pacquiao that I want to beat.Bradley outpointed Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) in fairly one-sided fashion in June 2015. But there was controversy because Vargas badly hurt him in the 12th round and nearly knocked him out in the final seconds, but before Vargas had a chance to see if he could finish Bradley, the referee accidentally stopped the fight aboout seven seconds early when he mixed up the sound of the 10-second warning clapper with the final bell. Nike Air Max Plus TN Ultra Negro Seven Colour. Vargas was livid and filed a formal protest to the California State Athletic Commission, but the result stood and he moved on.It was a learning experience, everything that happened, Vargas said. Not everything is fair and we had to let things go. Thats just the way it is and I am using it as an experience and make sure I let my hands go from the opening bell, not until nearly the last round. It gave me that fire, that anger to -- excuse me if I say it -- to really hurt somebody or kill somebody inside that ring, and to take it and not have any compassion for my opponent. That has built a stronger Jessie Vargas.Said Cameron Dunkin, Vargas manager: He had a bright future and it was a setback and he did take it very, very hard. It was hard on him. He was not used to losing. We talked and he wanted to go through the steps of what he could do with the commission and when that was over, Jessie dropped it and he was done with it and he said, Cameron, lets move on. And thats what we did.Vargas then beat Ali for a title and had an agreement in place to travel to England to face Kell Brook in a unification fight in September. But the deal ultimately was not finalized when the Brook camp wanted to reduce the money following the impact of the Brexit on the British currency. Vargas wound up getting an even bigger fight with Pacquiao. This is where I belong, Vargas said. Ive been waiting for this moment since I was 8 years old. This moment is not so big. Its here and I am going to take full advantage of it.When you envision something in your head over and over again, its like a movie placing you in that position, and once you are there youre ready. Thats the way I see it. I am so ready for this. I am in the best shape of my life. I have never felt this strong or this powerful. I am going to win this fight, thats how good I feel about it.Vargas is about an 8-to-1 underdog at The Wynn sports book and a victory would launch him into the big time, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said.He becomes not just a champion but a superstar. I will deny to him that I said that, because I will have to negotiate his next fight, Arum, who promotes Pacquiao and Vargas, said with a laugh. He would be a superstar. There is no question about that if he were to beat Manny Pacquiao. He has a hell of a shot to do that.Vargas trainer, Cooper, couldnt agree more.Jessie and I consider this fight the passing of the torch. We appreciate the body of work Manny has compiled in his illustrious career. However, as we all know, good things must come to an end and that will happen on [Saturday], Cooper said. This will be our moment, our time for a younger world champion to shine and earn the admiration of the fighting world. This moment is not too big for us. After this fight I will proudly hold up Jessies arm in victory. The torch will be passed.Vargas knows he is the big underdog but he also knows that a victory would be life-changing.It would definitely put me on the worldwide stage, make me that boxing star that I have been looking forward to being, Vargas said. I have been waiting for this for a long time and Im glad its here and I am going to take advantage of it.The only fighters to beat Manny Pacquiao have become legends themselves. So I plan to become one of the few to beat Manny Pacquiao and also become one of the legends. Guus Hiddink says he is unsure of his future plans after saying a difficult goodbye to Chelsea. Hydro Flask 18 Oz Wide Mouth . The Dutchman was brought in midway through the season with Chelsea 16th in the Premier League, only one point above the relegation zone.During his second spell with the club, Hiddink led Chelsea away from the bottom three and secured a 10th-place finish. He will be replaced by Antonio Conte in the summer after bidding farewell following Chelseas 1-1 draw with Leicester.Asked what he plans to do next, he told Sky Sports: I dont know. I will have some holidays. Then the Premier League starts again, I will not directly be involved but I will follow it closely. Its always difficult to say goodbye, I have been here twice and I have enjoyed it, although it was difficult to get the team from the relegation zone to where we are now. Its not enough for Chelsea standards but to say goodbye is difficult for a club I love. John Terry insisted he wants to stay at Chelsea and paid tribute to Hiddink after the draw I shouldnt be here normally because that means they are fighting for the top four or better, but I enjoyed helping out and I wont be away for long in the future, I will come to visit.Hiddink previously took charge in 2009, stepping into the role in February after the sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari. He was unable to finish his second spell with a win as Danny Drinkwaters long-range strike cancelled out Cesc Fabregas penalty. It was a typical end-of-season game, said Hiddink. In the first half we managed to create some chances and then after the break we got the penalty but then invited them to get their equaliser and it was sloppy defensively. It was a diplomatic 1-1 draw between the current and the past champions. Sayers also needed only one more wicket to complete his second ten-wicket game in first-class cricket, his first having come the last time he played against Tasmania, in March. Plenty has changed in the two years since Jarryd Hayne last took to an NRL field, especially the crackdown on physical contact on match officials.Haynes otherwise impressive return to rugby league for Gold Coast in a 24-14 loss to the Warriors on Saturday in front of a bumper home crowd included a brush against the back of referee Gavin Reynolds. The incident went largely unnoticed but was picked up by the dedicated Hayne Cam camera host broadcaster Fox Sports used to follow the 28-year-olds every move and got attention on social media.Given the recent crackdown, Titans fans may have a slightly anxious wait for the match review committee findings on Monday. Its a situation that the dual Dally M Medallist admits he finds baffling, particularly after seeing St George Illawarra forward Tyson Frizelll banned for one game for a seemingly innocuous incident when trying to get past the referee against Canterbury last week. Im not too sure.I really dont understand what the go is there with the whole accidentally touching the ref thing, Hayne added.Thats probably the biggest mindblowing thing, how a person can miss a week for accidentally touching a ref. AMHERST, N. Youth P. J. Hall Jersey .Y. -- Sadly, Buffalo coach Lance Leipold knows too well the pain and sorrow Jeff Monken and his Army players are dealing with following the recent sudden death of Black Knights cornerback Brandon Jackson. It has been only seven months since Leipold and his Bulls experienced similar emotions, when linebacker Solomon Jackson died a week after collapsing during a team conditioning session. Its a lot of sadness and a lot of other things that youre going through, Leipold recalled as Buffalo (0-2) prepares to host Army (3-0) on Saturday night. Theres an empty chair in the room, and theres an empty spot on the plane and the bus and a locker. The toughest part is finding a balance between life and football.Theres not a manual that I know of for this, Leipold said. You just try to do your best. The Bulls are honoring Solomon Jackson by wearing a No. 41 decal on their helmets. The Black Knights will do the same to honor Brandon Jackson, who died in a one-car crash on Sept. 11.It has been a very emotional last eight or nine days for our football team, Monken said. I am incredibly proud of our guys and how they responded. On Saturday, Army took care of business on the field with a 66-14 win at UTEP .On Monday, the Black Knights paid their respects by attending Jacksons funeral in New York. Now its up to Monken to turn the attention back to football for a team off to its best start since Army went 9-0 to open the 1996 season. Its important to maintain an even keel about where were at in terms of our record, Monken said. Theres a lot of things that I need to do better with this team to have them better prepared so they dont make any mistakes. The Black Knights offense was nearly perfect against UTEP by scoring on all nine drives -- eight touchdowns and a field goal. They racked up 598 yards offense, including 424 rushing, 33 first downs and converted 10 of 12 third-down chances.Running its ever-familiar triple-option running attack, Army ranks second in the nation with 1,101 yards rushing. The Mid-American Conference Bulls are experiencing the telltale signs of a rebuilding year in Leipolds second season, coming off losses to Nevada and lower-division Albany.Buffalos roster features 42 newcomers, including 6-foot-7 quarterback Tyree Jackson, a redshirt freshman set to make his second career start.Other things of note as Army attempts to win four straight for the first time since 2005:ON THE RUNBulls defensive end Demone Harris was on the sideline redshirting during the 2014 season, when Army had 341 yards rushing in a 47-39 win over Buffalo at West Point. On Saturday, Harris will experience firsthand the challenge of keeping the Black Knights in check. The key, Harris said, is patience and keeping your pad-level low to disrupt the Black Knights blocking schemes.Buffalo has allowed 477 yards rushing, including 352 and four TDs in a 38-14 loss at Nevada last weekend.BIG WINThe 66 points scored against UTEP were Armys most since a 68-6 win over Colgate on Nov. 1, 1958. And the 52-point margin of victory was the programs largest since a 55-0 win over Fordham on Oct. 29, 2011.NO RECEPTIONTyree Jackson has been a work in progress through two games. Hes gone 21 of 47 for 255 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and is also second on the team with 147 yards rushing.Jackson, however, was inconsistent against Nevada in going 7 of 22 for 130 yards passing and a touchdown, and failed to complete a pass to a receiver. Its not if, its when, Leipold said of Jackson playing to his potential. We just had hope that `when, was going to be a little sooner than where were at at this point.QUARTERBACKS GALOREArmy starting quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw and backup Chris Carter have seen action in every game so far. Bradshaw is the teams second-leading rusher with 152 yards. Carter logged significant time last week against UTEP, gaining 94 yards on the ground with a touchdown and throwing for 47 yards.REMEMBERING JACKSONOf the many offers of condolences Buffalo received following Solomon Jacksons death, Leipold the most notable was from Army.Aside from a note, he said Army also reached out to the players family. It meant a lot, Leipold said. SAN FRANCISCO -- Marlon Byrds two-out grand slam capped a five-run eighth inning and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 10-6 on Tuesday for their third consecutive win. Homme John Elliott x Nike Vandal High Noir AH8518-001 . A day after needing 16 innings to top the Giants in a game that ended at 12:42 a.m., the Mets squandered leads of 3-2 and 5-3 but held off the slumping World Series champs by scoring five times against the Giants bullpen. Omar Quintanilla had three hits for the Mets while Byrd and David Wright added two apiece. Wright drew a two-out walk before Byrds home run off San Francisco reliever Jake Dunning. Marco Scutaro singled twice for the Giants but was thrown out at home trying to score from first base on Pablo Sandovals double in the first. The Giants scored more than four runs for just the fourth time in 22 games but still lost and fell a season-high nine games under .500. San Francisco also has the worst record in the majors (17-34) since May 13. Scott Rice (4-5) retired one batter for the win as the Mets overcame a shaky outing by starter Dillon Gee. Gee allowed five runs and nine hits over 6 2-3 innings. He also walked five. Carlos Torres pitched the final two innings and gave up Nick Noonans pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth, one night after New Yorks bullpen tossed nine scoreless innings. San Franciscos bullpen was also stellar in the extra-inning game on Monday but couldnt follow suit this time after the Giants scored single runs in three straight innings to tie the game at 5-all. Quintanilla singled off reliever Jose Mijares (0-2) with one out in the eighth and took second on pinch-hitters Juan Lagares single. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Eric Young Jr. walked before Daniel Murphys sacrifice fly drove in Quintanilla with the tiebreaking run. After Wright walked to load the bases, Byrd hit his 14th homer of the season off Dunning to give the Mets a cushion. Both clubs were still showing the effects from Mondays game. Giants manager Bruce Bochy scrapped batting practice and told his players they didnt have to report until two hours before first pitch. Bochy kept All-Star catcher Buster Posey out of the starting lineup after Posey caught all 16 innings in the 4-3 loss. The Mets rested catcher John Buck, who also went the distance a night earlier. Bucks replacement, Anthony Recker, committed an error in the second inning that allowed Hunter Pence to score San Franciscos first run. Pence reached on an infield hit leading off and took third on Brandon Belts single before Recker threw wildly into centre trying to catch Belt on an attempted steal. The Giants went up 2-0 later in the inning but the Mets scored three times in the fourth to take the lead. Quintanillas two-out base hit drove in Josh Satin to put New York ahead. After Sandovals run-scoring groundout in the fifth tied it at 3-all, Recker homered off San Francisco starter Barry Zito in the sixth to put the Mets ahead 5-3. The Giants scored once in the sixth then tied it again on Sandovals sacrifice fly in the seventh. San Francisco got a lift from rookie Kensuke Tanaka, who was called up from the minors before the game. Tanaka singled, walked and scored and made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Andrew Brown of a potential home run in the second. NOTES: Zito remained winless in his last seven starts dating to May 30. ... David Wright has a 10-game hitting streak. ... Mets RHP Shaun Marcum will have season-ending surgery on his pitching shoulder Monday in St. Louis. Marcum experienced tingling and numbness in his right hand Saturday night against Milwaukee. Torres will replace Marcum in the rotation, and RHP Gonzalez Germen was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. ... San Francisco placed backup catcher Hector Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. Pitcher Michael Kickham was called up from Triple-A Fresno and designated OF Cole Gillespie for assignment. ... Veteran OF Jeff Francoeur agreed to terms on a minor league contract with San Francisco. ... RHP Matt Cain (5-5) faces former Giants prospect Zack Wheeler (2-1) in the series finale. Wheeler was the Giants first-round pick in 2009 when he was the sixth player taken overall. Nike Zoom Pegasus 35 Homme . Despite the fact that theyre coming off the best finish in franchise history (103 points), the Florida Panthers were one of the busiest teams during the offseason. Lance McCullers Jersey . Even the team logo is new (and its pretty cool, too).Former general manager Dale Tallon was promoted to president of hockey operations, while Tom Rowe took over as general manager. The Panthers acquired veteran defenseman Keith Yandle from the New York Rangers and then signed him to a seven-year deal worth $44.45 million. Florida also traded defenseman Dmitry Kulikov to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defensive prospect Mark Pysyk,?and?acquired goaltender Reto Berra from the Colorado Avalanche for center Rocco Grimaldi. The Panthers also signed goalie James Reimer, center Colton Sceviour, center Jonathan Marchessault and defenseman Jason Demers. All these moves should help them build off last seasons success, but it will be interesting to see how all the changes play out in Florida.Best new facesThe additions of Yandle and Demers will bolster the blue line. Yandles presence no doubt will help the power play, too. When it was evident that the Rangers werent going to be able to sign Yandle because of cap constraints, there were plenty of suitors for the veteran blueliner. When they traded for my rights, I knew they wanted me, Yandle said. It was a great feeling for me to be wanted, especially before to get to [free agency] on July 1. I knew once something could get settled, it would be a good fit.Demers registered 23 or more points in each of the past three seasons while playing for the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars?before signing a five-year deal with Florida this summer. Reimer will serve as backup to starter Roberto Luongo. The Panthers gave Reimer a five-year deal worth $17 million.Biggest unknownsJaromir Jagr seems like hes been around forever. The grizzly veteran forward -- who led the team last season with 66 points -- rolls into this season at age 44 but shows no signs of stopping. The future Hall of Famer surpassed Gordie Howe to rank third on the NHLs all-time scoring list when he reached 1,851 points last season. Its likely hell pass?Mark Messier for second on that list soon since Jagr begins the season only 19 points shy of that mark. But how much does Jagr have left in the tank? The game is getting younger and faster each season, and its only a matter of time before it catches up with him. To his credit, he remains in great shape. But he has to slow down at some point, right?Forward Nick Bjugstad, who dealt with an upper-body injury during the playoffs and is now out with a broken hand, is lost to the team for four weeks. Defenseman Aaron Ekblad signed an eight-year extension worth $60 million in July, but then had his World Cup of Hockey experience cut short because of whiplash he suffered while playing for Team North America. How these players react to their injuries once fully recovered will be key.Sure thingsAleksander Barkov, 21, proved during the World Cup while playing for Team Finland that hes set to continue breaking out. During 2015-16, he registered 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in 66 games for the Panthers. Entering his fourth season in the NHL, Barkov could be one of the most dynamic players in the league.Teammate Reilly Smith, who signed a five-year extension this summer, had his best overall NHL season in 2015-16. The 25-year-old forward posted 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in 82 games. Hes become a leader on and off the ice for the Panthers, who once again will rely on his production.?Second-line center Vincent Trocheck, 23, earned himself a six-year contract worth $28.5 million in July. He had 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 76 games last season and looked good in the World Cup. Forward Jonathan Huberdeau, 23, posted 20 goals and 39 assists for 59 points in 76 games last season, and the Panthers rewarded him with a six-year deal worth $34.5 million during the summer. Both can be counted on to continue their development this season.PredictionThe Panthers will build on last seasons success, and now that their core of young talent has emerged as bona fide NHLers, they will again earn a postseason berth.?Third in the Atlantic. Nobody likes losing. Even the most gracious among us still burns a little inside when she comes up on the wrong side of a final score. But not all losses are the same. Letting your kid beat you in H-O-R-S-E every once in a while only mildly stings. A good, solid clobbering?when you were vastly outplayed can sometimes be easy to brush off. Heck, a moral victory against a heavy favorite might even send you out for some celebratory ice cream post-defeat.But there are some losses that leave a pit in your stomach for days. Losses that feel like theyll stick with you forever. Not your run-of-the-mill buzzer-beaters or the times you came up short on an opponents otherworldly play. Nah, these are the real dark and twisty losses -- not just that you lost, but the way you lost.Take, for instance, the San Francisco Giants loss on Saturday night. With the game tied 6-6 in the 10th inning, San Francisco reliever Santiago Casilla tripped midpitch, stumbling down the front of the mound and giving the Padres a walk-off balk win. An extra-innings contest decided by a spike caught in the dirt? Just brutal. In fact, a walk-off balk is probably the worst possible way to lose a baseball game.Which got me thinking: What are the absolute worst ways to lose? And what are some of the most unfortunate losses weve seen in recent years?I think the most obvious of all crushing losses has to be the Chris Webber game. You all know how it went. With Michigan down 73-71 in the final seconds of the 1993 NCAA title game, Webber attempted to call timeout but his team had none remaining, and the ensuing technical foul clinched the win for UNC. The Tar Heels may have won anyway, but Webber will forever wonder. But lets get to something a little more recent. Just last week, in fact, when the USGA bungled the handling of a penalty in the U.S. Womens Open. Brittany Lang and Anna Nordqvist were tied on the second hole of a three-hole aggregate playoff when Nordqvist disrupted one or two tiny grains of sand, grounding her club in a fairway bunker. USGA officials didnt learn of the infraction until later during the hole -- and only due to super slo-mo, zoomed-in replays shown by high-definition television cameras. Nordqvist wasnt informed of the two-stroke penalty she received until after shed hit her third shot on the final hole, but Lang was told before she hit her third shot. The two were still tied when the penalty strokes were applied, so there are no guarantees that Nordqvist would have come back to win it if she had been alerted sooner. But she would have had the opportunity to play aggressively on the final hole, and Lang likely wouldnt have elected to hit a conservative shot with a sand wedge instead of going for birdie with the lob wedge she had initially grabbed. It was a terribly unfair way for Nordqvist to lose, and likely a somewhat unsatisfying victory for Lang (especially after USGA President Diana Murphy repeatedly called her Bethany, instead of Brittany, duuring the trophy presentation). Andy Pettitte Jersey. Losing because of a rules violation like that might be even worse than a walk-off balk. Ill never forget the story of high school pole vaulter Robin Laird. In 2010, her successful vault in the final event of the night won her team the league championship, but her score was disqualified and the title was lost because she was wearing a friendship bracelet. The opposing teams coach, Mike Knowles, pointed out the tiny string bracelet on Lairds wrist after the winning jump was made, ensuring that the meet would be decided not by merit, but by a technicality. Its unfortunate for the young lady, said Knowles, whose team won after he reported Lairds jewelry infraction. But youve got to teach the kids that rules are rules.Id argue teaching good sportsmanship is even more important.Teams have suffered heartbreaking losses because their fans prematurely celebrated, because a set of replacement refs fouled things up, and because no one really knows what the hell constitutes a catch in the NFL. Teams have ended up on the losing side of things because of a terribly ill-timed face-mask penalty, a lack of discipline, and celebrating before crossing the finish line. All terrible ways to lose a game, to be sure. And the worst part? Theyre all caught on tape, to be replayed over and over again. Most of those unfortunate athletes seemed to take their failures in stride. After all, were told that terrible losses can make for good character building -- you know, learning to lose gracefully and all that. Not all of us are cut out for that losing gracefully stuff, though. After more than 30 years on this earth, Ive sort of given up on it. Some of us are destined to throw bats at rec league softball games, yell at refs making eight bucks an hour, and agonize for years over a late interception that cost your team a playoff win in flag football. All Ill say is, thank goodness my losses never make the Not Top 10.***Ryen Russillo joins this weeks Thats What She Said podcast to talk about the radio balancing act of being interesting but also authentic, opinionated but genuine.
