prefers takeout to dining in these days Womens Austin Ekeler Jersey , because the first-year starter would be recognized in any restaurant in Kansas City. Not just because of his Mohawk, either.Mahomes is off to a record-setting start to the season, and he has the Chiefs at 2-0 heading into their home opener Sunday against San Francisco. And that has just about everyone buzzing, from busboys to restaurant owners, about the possibility of another AFC West title and some postseason success."I can only imagine it's going to be pretty interesting to be Patrick Mahomes around town," Chiefs center Mitch Morse said with a sly smile.Morse doesn't have as much trouble when he dines out, of course. Nor do the rest of the Chiefs' offensive linemen, even though they're a big reason Mahomes has had so much success.A group that returned largely intact from last season, when it helped Kareem Hunt win the NFL rushing title, has proven it can keep Mahomes clean as well. The line has allowed just two sacks despite going on the road to face the Chargers and Steelers, two fairly salty defenses, and that has translated into offensive numbers that rank near the top of the league. Most importantly? The Chiefs are averaging 40 points per game."I think jelling is a great word," Morse said. "It's four years for some of us together, and with offensive line continuity is the biggest thing. The more we play together helps."The Chiefs have certainly invested in their offensive line.Their first draft pick of the Andy Reid era was Eric Fisher, who was selected first overall in 2013 and has played well enough to sign a $63 million, six-year deal.Morse was a second-round pick in 2015 Womens Darius Philon Jersey , and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was a sixth-round flyer who panned out so well he also signed a long-term contract to the tune of $42.36 million over five years.Kansas City solidified the right tackle position by signing Mitchell Schwartz to a $33 million, five-year deal a couple of years ago, and shored up the only remaining spot on the offensive line when former first-round pick Cam Erving was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. He's played so well that the Chiefs signed him to a $15.75 million extension last offseason. It's easier to tie up money in the offensive line when the quarterback, often the most expensive position on the roster, happens to be on a rookie deal. But it also shows how much value the Chiefs put in protecting Mahomes, and how much confidence they have in the group they've assembled."They've worked very hard at coming together and working," Reid said."We have a ton of things we can improve on. As defensive coordinators study and see these things, they will throw different wrinkles at you and you have to rise up every week."That's not a simple part of this. In this business it's not so much about what you did the week before, it's about what you do today."We have to keep answering these different challenges," Reid said. "We did OK last week, now we will prepare ourselves for this week."Indeed, the challenge presented by the Steelers was unique. Their defense tends to disguise blitz packages better than most, and that could have created problems for an inexperienced quarterback. But beyond keeping Mahomes upright, the offensive also was instrumental in helping him diagnose what the Steelers were doing. It was a true team effort in calling out the blitzes. Now the challenge is San Francisco, led by sack specialist DeForest Buckner."It's the same type of scheme that the Chargers ran and originated in Seattle. They have a lot of good players," Mahomes said."It's going to be a great challenge for us Authentic Casey Hayward Jersey , especially being our first home game. We have to stay in process. Keep doing what we do well, keep getting better, fixing our mistakes and hopefully come out with the win."Notes: Safety Eric Berry (Achilles tendon) remained out of practice Thursday, making it unlikely he will make his season debut against San Francisco. He's been out since early in training camp. ... DT Chris Jones returned to practice after missing Wednesday's workout with a groin injury. ... FS Armani Watts was excused from practice for personal reasons. Tennessee played without its starting quarterback and top three offensive tackles against J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus and the rest of Houston's challenging defense.Mike Vrabel and his assistants responded with a few timely tricks for the Titans.Ryan Succop kicked a 31-yard field goal with 1:00 left, and the battered Titans held off the Texans 20-17 on Sunday for Vrabel's first victory as an NFL head coach against the team he worked for the past four seasons.Succop also kicked a tying 42-yarder in the fourth quarter as Tennessee (1-1) delivered with quarterback Marcus Mariota watching from the sideline."It's a huge win," Titans quarterback Blaine Gabbert said. "Getting Vrabes his first win as a head coach was awesome. And this team had a lot of adversity throughout the week. The guys fought their way to this win. I'm just extremely proud of those guys."Deshaun Watson and Houston had the ball last. With 17 seconds left, Watson ran around the field looking for a receiver. He found DeAndre Hopkins for a 31-yard completion to the Tennessee 21, but time expired before the Texans could run another play."We tried to take a shot," Watson said. "We didn't have any timeouts, and they guarded the sideline very well. My instincts took over and tried to get the ball and time ran out."Houston coach Bill O'Brien said they were trying to get in field goal range to force overtime."We've got to do a better job of coaching that play up," O'Brien said.Gabbert, starting for his fourth different NFL team, threw for 117 yards and a touchdown. With Mariota sidelined by an elbow injury that created numbness in his throwing hand, Vrabel and the Titans (1-1) got creative. They dipped into the playbook and used some wildcat with Derrick Henry on offense, and All-Pro safety Kevin Byard set an NFL record when he tossed a 66-yard touchdown pass on a fake punt.Tennessee allowed only one sack to Houston (0-2) Womens Derwin James Jersey , which was missing a couple defensive starters in linebacker Jadeveon Clowney and end Christian Covington. The Titans came up with four sacks and an interception.Watson threw for 310 yards and two TDs as Houston outgained Tennessee 437-283 in total offense. On Tennessee's opening drive, Byard hit a wide-open Dane Cruikshank down the right sideline. Byard's TD pass was the longest by a defensive player in the Super Bowl era , easily topping the mark set by Rams defensive back Ed Meador on Nov. 19, 1967.On the next drive, the Titans went with the wildcat with Henry before Gabbert finished the drive with a screen pass to Taywan Taylor, who went 18 yards for the TD and a 14-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.Titans cornerback Adoree Jackson got his first interception in the NFL, beating Hopkins for the ball in the end zone.MISSING PASS RUSHThe Titans threw only 20 passes. Texans star J.J. Watt went against right tackle Tyler Marz, signed from the Titans' practice squad Saturday and making his NFL debut. Watt had two tackles for loss but no quarterback hits. The Texans finished with one sack on defense with two quarterback hits.FAKE PUNTByard credited Vrabel with telling him before the game not to second-guess himself and just run the fake if he saw the Titans' gunner uncovered on the outside."He put the trust in me man, and I really appreciate that," Byard said.INJURIESThe Titans played without two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan, who is recovering from a concussion. Right tackle Jack Conklin has yet to return after tearing a ligament in his left knee in January. Dennis Kelly, who had replaced Conklin, was out with an illness. The Titans started Kevin Pamphile, a free-agent signee in March, at left tackle.Titans running back David Fluellen hurt a groin muscle in the first quarter and did not return.UP NEXTTexans: Home opener against the New York Giants.Titans: A second straight AFC South opponent with a trip to Jacksonville.Follow Teresa M. The Lightning Strike: to see yourself become the villain Cheap Mike Williams Jersey ,”It’s an iconic line that genuinely can represent many scenarios where the person who works to be something, ends up becoming the very thing the promised themselves they would never see facing them back in the mirror. If you aren’t familiar with the opening line of this column, it’s one of the most quotable lines from the hit blockbuster film “The Dark Knight.” The follows the titular character, Bruce Wayne, dressing up as a vigilante, protecting the crime-ridden streets of Gotham City. From battling against mob dealers to battling for the soul of Gotham in a fist fight with his arch-nemesis The Joker, The Dark Knight is a cinematic masterpiece that speaks volumes of people’s character, ambitions, and dreams that might never become a reality. Plus, Heath Ledger’s Joker is the greatest cinema villain of all-time. In the movie, there’s a scene at the Wayne Penthouse where Bruce along with hundreds of local Gotham City members is at a fundraiser to support the city’s District Attorney Harvey Dent. Dent is a young, sophisticated lawyer who wants to play his role in helping to make Gotham City a better place for the inhabitants to live in. During his campaign and throughout all the movie posters, Dent was seen with half his face covered, brooding away while holding a red and blue button. The words on the button; “I believe in Harvey Dent.” When looking at a football roster, The Dark Knight or even the entire Batman series could be tied together to explain every role a person plays in making their roster stronger. The Los Angeles Chargers are no different from this analogy as they have weapons on their team that could mimic the famous D.C. comic strip. Philip Rivers is, of course, Batman; our leader hero who has had a troubled past and looks to take matters into his own to save the future. Cemented with millions of dollars, our hero could leave but instead fights for the city he cares so deeply for. In all seriousness, Rivers might be the NFL’s Batman based off their similarities. After constant losing seasons and a lack of growth from the organization, the 36-year old quarterback could have left at any time to chase a ring, and no one would have argued with him. Instead, he stands behind his organization as the watchful protector that his franchise needs. Anthony Lynn is Commissioner Jim Gordon: a hard-nosed cop who no one saw becoming Commissioner Cheap Kyzir White Jersey , but impressed since taking over. Lynn went from Buffalo Bills running back coach to interim head coach to Chargers head coach in a matter of months. In his first season, the Bolts went 9-7, just missing the playoffs but showing growth under their new leader. The City of Los Angeles is the City of Gotham; Melvin Gordon is the reliable butler, Alfred while Keenan Allen is Batman’s safety net in Lucius Fox. The Joker and the rest of Batman’s villains are the rest of the NFL. The only way for Batman to save Gotham City is by beating his foes and sending them away to jail...or the NFL offseason. Which brings us to Harvey Dent. Dent later becomes Two-Face, a mass murdering psychopath who decides who his victim’s fate by flipping a coin. Dent was forced into corruption due to the easy persuasion of the Joker to seek vengeance on those he once considered friends. Following Thursday’s comeback victory to the San Francisco 49ers, Chargers wide receiver could be Los Angeles’ Harvey Dent. The second-year pass catcher out of Clemson is one of the many Chargers who could be looking for work following Saturday’s 53 man roster finalization. With the Chargers receiving corp looking strong headed into the season with the likes of Allen, Mike Williams, Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin, the Bolts could look to bolster another position’s depth and send the former Tiger packing. But like those of Gotham City believing in the White Knight, the Chargers nation should hold their button’s high proclaiming “I believe in Artavis Scott.”Now, will Scott ever be a standout receiver for the Chargers? Probably not. Will he offer them another weapon in the passing game to help keep offensive drives alive? Absolutely. Scott might not do many things great, but his versatility on both the offense and on special does give him qualities worth keeping for another season. Size and Stability There are positives and negatives to Scott’s overall game. The most prominent narrative is his stature. Listed at a generous 5 foot 10 inches, the second-year man will be limited in the slot if he wants to make an impact. Larger cornerbacks will eat him alive on the outside while his window of opportunity will diminish closer to the hash marks. Inside, however, Scott’s routes are clean, precise and a safety net for a quarterback to dump off to under pressure. His majority of routes include slants, outs, curls, ins, overs and every once a while a post across the middle. His bread and butter is in the short-yard passing game to keep drives alive instead of being the downfield hero. As for stability, Scott spent his rookie season on the practice squad. While maybe that won’t scream “top caliber potential” with plenty of receivers hitting the free agent market heading into Saturday, Scott has experience work with Lynn and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. He understands the playbook , knows the signals and has the knowledge of what exactly his coach truly wants out of a player. Building a bond takes time, and Scott has undoubtedly earned the right to say his bonds are tight with the Chargers staff. Production Preseason games are the equivalent of practice SAT; they mean jack squat until you put it to action. Still, the more you learn, the better prepared you are for the real shindig. This preseason, Scott’s been flying high with passing grades on those practice test after three solid outings. This preseason, Scott has collected eight receptions on ten targets for 82 yards. The big kicker is his average yard per catch. In three preseason appearances, Scott has averaged 9.6 yards per catch, setting the Chargers up with nearly a first down every time he gets the ball. Although those numbers are skyrocketing up the chart of the participation trophy known as “preseason stats,” but when you break it down, Scott has been the most consistent weapon for the Chargers offense all preseason. That will hold much higher measures heading into the regular season. Add on that Scott has averaged 24.5 yards per return and that still proves that he could be worth a roster spot heading into Saturday.About Last NightAll that you saw before was written before heading into Thursday’s preseason finale. Now it’s time to address the big elephant in the room. During a kickoff return early Thursday night, Scott went down clutching his right leg. He would need help getting off the field and would be carted back to the locker room. While taking a trip on the cart doesn’t always mean a player’s season has come to an end, it’s still not a good sign moving forward. Since we’re staying with the Batman theme, Scott got blown up in the warehouse like Dent and is now recovering from a severe injury that could cost him some time. The budding star of the Chargers preseason is now in remission, and his city can either cast him out or help him recover. Depending on the longevity of the injury, there are multiple ways for the Chargers to address to this situation. If expected to miss a game or two, sign him to the final roster and be short-handed at receiver. By the looks of how the Chargers unit has played this preseason, Scott’s “ace in the hole” mentality might not be needed. If expected to miss a more extended period, place him on the injured reserve list and keep him in the back pocket for the future. Even if waived, it’s unlikely a team will add an injured player to their roster over a healthy one. Then there’s option C which could lead to Scott’s transformation to the dark side. They waive him, no one picks him up and instead, the team releases him once healthy. Injuries are a tricky situation, but more often than not , this is the outlook. In the end, Scott’s resume provides excellent background recommendations and knowledge of the system to qualify him for the job. If waived after a strong outing in training camp, it will be Los Angeles this time who won’t be so lucky. Scott’s growth this season could merit him another roster spot for a new team, thus corrupting him to the dark side. If there’s promise in a player, give them a chance to show their worth. Scott’s return ability and potential safety net option across the middle of the field could give the Chargers a unique offensive identity for the upcoming season. It is easier to have a player with potential talent rather than cutting them and seeing them succeed on another roster. Scott isn’t a game changer, but his skills merit a roster spot. In the similar words of Harvey Dent “You either make the roster or last long enough to make sure your vengeance is justified when you return.” For the Chargers sake, Scott’s safer to their success on the bench or even the injured reserve list rather than against him on the field.Chargers, Seahawks Showing Interest in FA CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie According to a recent report from ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Chargers are one of two teams keeping a close eye on free agent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Seahawks are the other team keeping the free agent in mind as their cornerback group is currently made up of Shaquill Griffin, Byron Maxwell, Neiko Thorpe, and Justin Coleman. It should also be noted that the Bolts are in “no rush” to sign DRC. After all, the team still boasts a top CB trio in the league with Casey Hayward, Trevor Williams, and Desmond King.Over his 10-year career with the Cardinals, Eagles, Broncos, and Giants, Rodgers-Cromartie has amassed 439 combined tackles and 30 interceptions with six being returned for touchdowns. In his final season with New York, he collected 48 tackles and a half-sack across 15 games played.

The team kept a couple players who probably didn’t earn it, cut a few players who seemed to have earned back-end roster spots, and cut an offensive lineman no one saw coming.Let’s take an in-depth look at the Chargers initial 53-man roster as we wait for players to clear waivers, the team to announce its practice squad, and hopefully, for a couple waiver wire additions鈥uarterbacksPhilip RiversGeno SmithCardale JonesI suggested keeping Cardale Jones as a potential cut day curveball earlier today, so while I’m not overly surprised, I am disappointed with the decision. Jones was extremely erratic throughout camp and the preseason and looked like he was having a hard time with the speed of preseason games. To be blunt, I just don’t see the value in carrying Jones after losing out to Geno and Youth Austin Ekeler Jersey , at least in my opinion, it appears as though Anthony Lynn let his personal relationship with the quarterback taint his ability to evaluate him objectively.Running backsMelvin Gordon IIIAustin EkelerDetrez NewsomeJustin JacksonKeeping Justin Jackson was another cut day curveball I anticipated earlier today. In my opinion, Jackson is another player who didn’t earn a roster spot following a training camp injury that cost him the first three preseason games. While I’d prefer the team not carry four backs, I think it’s probably temporary. It wouldn’t surprise me if Detrez Newsom finds his way to the practice squad late next week if/when the team needs the roster spot for a free agent or waiver wire addition. I just have a hard time seeing them carry four backs into the season.Wide ReceiversKeenan AllenTyrell WilliamsTravis BenjaminMike WilliamsGeremy DavisJJ Jones*Artavis Scott – placed on Reserve/Injured list, AKA Injured ReserveThere is a lot going on here. First of all, the Chargers did not cut or waive Artavis Scott, they placed him on the reserve/injured list, which is also referred to as the injured reserve. Thanks to the rule change in 2016, each team has the ability to bring two players off of the IR after eight weeks on the list and those players do not have to be given a return designation up front. With Scott injured, the sixth wide receiver spot went to undrafted rookie JJ Jones. It’s a rough break for Scott (no pun intended) and a bit of good fortune for Jones who, at least in my opinion, kind of fell into a roster spot. While JJ showed considerably promise as a return specialist, it’s hard to argue he offers much value as an NFL wide receiver. We’ll see if he sticks once the team starts moving pieces around to make room for free agent and waiver wire additions.I’m a little surprised the team didn’t place Dylan Cantrell on the injured reserve. Not that he necessarily earned the right to be protected, I just didn’t think the team would be too keen on exposing him to the waiver wire. Hopefully he clears waivers and can be added to the practice squad.Tight EndsVirgil GreenSean CulkinYes, you read that right – the Chargers only kept two tight ends on the initial roster. While somewhat surprising from a numbers standpoint Youth Darius Philon Jersey , it makes sense. None of the other tight ends earned or deserved a roster spot. It’s probably safe to assume the Chargers and Antonio Gates will agree on a new contract and, given the alarming lack of production from this group in the preseason, it wouldn’t surprise me if Gates wasn’t the only addition. I just don’t think keeping three tight ends is enough when one of those tight ends is a 37-year old Antonio Gates.Offensive LineRussell OkungDan FeeneyMike PounceyMichael SchofieldJoe BarksdaleForrest LampScott QuessenberrySam TeviCole TonerNo, I didn’t forget to list last year’s starting center Spencer Pulley. The decision to cut Pulley are arguably the biggest surprise on the initial 53-man roster, but it seems last year’s training camp darling just didn’t show enough improvement to earn a roster spot. Assuming he clears waivers, I suspect the team will try to add Pulley to the practice squad. It would be a complete shock if the team didn’t add a veteran tackle off the waiver wire over the next few days.Defensive EndsJoey BosaMelvin IngramIsaac RochellChris LandrumFinally, a position group that played out as expected.Defensive TacklesBrandon MebaneDarius PhilonDamian SquareJustin JonesAs we all know, Corey Liuget is suspended for the first four games of the season. He does not count against the 53-man roster while he’s suspended or the salary cap while he’s suspended. As you may have noticed, undrafted rookie Steven Richardson did not make the team’s 53-man roster. This is difficult to fathom because “Stove” was arguably the most consistent defensive tackle on the roster through out the preseason, and it becomes even more confusing considering Mebane’s physical decline and the fact that Philon and Jones are both banged up. They needed the extra body on the interior line and Richardson earned his spot, but they apparently valued Cardale Jones and Justin Jackson over former Golden Gopher defensive tackle.I’m trying to get beyond this by convincing myself the team will sign free agent Johnathn Hankins and Richardson will land on the practice squad. Time will tell.LinebackerDenzel PerrymanKyzir WhiteUchenna NwosuHayes PullardJatavis BrownNick Dzubnar I thought there was a chance the team might keep undrafted free agent D’Juan Hines over Nick Dzubnar, but it seems the team valued 48’s special teams contributions too much to cut him. This could prove to be a missed opportunity because Hines proved himself capable of being a core special teams player during the preseason and, unlike Dzubnar, he’s actually capable of making a positive contribution as a utility linebacker in case of injury. Hopefully D’Juan clears waivers and makes his way to the practice squad.CornerbacksCasey HaywardTrevor WilliamsDesmond KingMichael DavisCraig MagerBrandon FacysonThe Chargers wisely chose to keep six corners considering the injuries suffered by Casey Hayward and Trevor Williams during camp. As expected, Mager locked down the fifth spot on the depth chart after what may have been his best preseason to date. The surprise here might be that Brandon Facyson made the team considering he was working primarily with the third team defense during the preseason Youth Virgil Green Jersey , but my guess is Facyson is a placeholder for a future signing. He’ll likely be headed to the practice squad when the roster is finalized.SafetiesDerwin JamesJahleel AddaeRayshawn JenkinsAdrian PhillipsNo real surprises here. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Chargers are in the market for some veteran depth at this position given the relative inexperience behind Jahleel Addae.Special TeamsCaleb SturgisDrew KaserMike Windt Anthony Lynn hinted the team might keep Sturgis over Roberto Aguayo and that’s how it panned out. I thought Sturgis kicked pretty well and earned the job, but I would have been fine with either. There aren’t any surprises at punter or long snapper. Like some fans, I’m having a hard time reconciling the direction the team took with Cardale Jones, Steven Richardson and, to a lesser extent, Justin Jackson. Cutting Steven Richardson while keeping Cardale Jones and Justin Jackson seems inconsistent with Anthony Lynn’s reputation for holding players accountable; and the decision to keep Jones, in particular, suggests a lack of objectivity. That said, I have to keep reminding myself the team is likely to move a few pieces around over the next 24-48 hours. Hopefully that movement will result in the Chargers signing Johnathan Hankins, Antonio Gates and a veteran offensive tackle; and Steven Richardson and D’Juan Hines landing on the practice squad. Those are my thought on the initial 53-man roster – what did you think?

Staring at a 1-2-1 start to their 2018 reason and facing the possibility of their season being lost Trae Waynes Jersey , the Minnesota Vikings got some motivation last Friday from someone who knows a thing or two about not quitting. The team got a pre-departure speech from Olympic Gold Medalist (and Minnesota native) Jessie Diggins. In the most recent Winter Olympics, Diggins teamed with Kikkan Randall to win the gold medal in the Women’s Team Sprint event in cross-country skiing. It was the first ever Olympic medal for an American cross-country skier, and if you want to see how close it was, you can watch the video of it here.(We can’t embed the video here. Thanks, NBC.)One player that was definitely impressed. . .and motivated. . .by the speech was defensive end Stephen Weatherly, who was set to make his third NFL start in place of Everson Griffen.Weatherly made what might have been the biggest play of Sunday’s game, crashing through the Philadelphia offensive line and hitting Carson Wentz. Wentz coughed up the ball and it floated into the arms of Linval Joseph, who rambled for a 64-yard touchdown and a lead that the Vikings didn’t relinquish. If memory serves me correctly, there were quite a few other Minnesotans that took home gold medals at the most recent Winter Olympics. If having them speak to the Vikings can get them to perform the way they did on Sunday, maybe the team should continue this trend of bringing them in to speak on Fridays. I don’t know how much it would help, but it doesn’t appear as though it would hurt. We take a brief break from the weekly angst over the roughing the passer penalties in the NFL to talk cold, hard cash.Anthony Prince got his money.Eric Dickerson wants to get paid, too.Prince isn't a big name like Dickerson, who leads a group of Hall of Famers who are threatening to follow in Terrell Owens' footsteps and boycott future induction ceremonies if the NFL doesn't give them health insurance and a share of league revenues. How much? How about $300,000 annually for each Hall of Famer.Seems like a long shot. Then again Authentic Danielle Hunter Jersey , Prince was initially spurred when he tried to cash his ticket.Prince is the football fan who made some serious greenbacks when FanDuel goofed up and gave him exorbitant odds on the Broncos' comeback last week. After initially refusing to pay up, the online betting company made good on the ticket.Prince made a $110 bet at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey, at FanDuel's new sports book, and was handed a ticket at incredible 750-to-1 odds with about a minute left as the Broncos trailed the Raiders by 2 points on their final drive last week. Denver kicked a field goal with 6 seconds left to win 20-19.That meant a payoff of more than $82,000.But wait.FanDuel said its automated system mistakenly generated long odds in the final moments of the game when it should have calculated his odds at 1-6, meaning a bettor would have to wager $600 to win $100.The company initially refused to pay the bet placed at its sports book at the Meadowlands Racetrack, saying it isn't obligated to pay for obvious errors.FanDuel reversed field after consulting with state gambling regulators, however."We want sports betting to be fun," FanDuel said in a statement. "So, this one's on the house. We are paying out these erroneous tickets and wish the lucky customers well."So, Prince and another 11 customers who capitalized on an 18-second computer glitch to place their bets, all got paid.SHOW US THE MONEYSome of the best men ever to play in the NFL want a cut of the action. In a strongly worded letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith and Hall of Fame President David Baker — and obtained by The Associated Press — 21 Hall of Fame members cited themselves as "integral to the creation of the modern NFL, which in 2017 generated $14 billion in revenue."Among the signees were Dickerson, who is listed as chairman of the newly created Hall of Fame Board the group has formed; Jim Brown; Joe Namath; Lawrence Taylor; and Sarah White , the widow of Reggie White. There were questions, though, about how well-organized the group was. Two players whose names are on the letter said they were not part of the boycott effort. Another name on the list was Carl Ellard, but no one by that name has played professional football. Former Vikings defensive end Carl Eller, however, is a Hall of Famer.Jerry Rice, whose name is on the letter, said he wasn't on the Hall of Fame Board. And in a statement on Twitter , the former wide receiver said he plans to support the Hall of Fame and "looks forward to attending the 100th anniversary in 2020."Kurt Warner also released a statement on Twitter that said he wasn't made aware of the letter and said his name was mistakenly put on it. He said he supports the efforts for better benefits for all retired players and doesn't believe in boycotting the Hall of Fame.Other takeaways from Week 3 include players rallying around Dolphins defensive end William Hayes, who tore his right ACL while trying to avoid landing on Oakland quarterback Derek Carr and comply with the roughing the passer rules that are being emphasized this season. Jon Gruden lamented a lack of pass rushers on the Raiders' roster three weeks after shipping Khalil Mack to Chicago and the Bills mistook Madison, Wisconsin, for Minneapolis.WHAT ABOUT US?San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman summed up a lot of defenders' feelings when he retweeted a video clip of Hayes getting hurt Sunday while trying to avoid landing on Carr."They don't care about the rest of us getting hurt. Long as the QB is safe," Sherman tweeted.Broncos nose tackle Domata Peko concurred with Sherman's sentiment."We get offensive linemen falling on us all the time," Peko said. "We get 600 pounds on top of us when two guys land on us, and they don't say nothing about that."During the Steelers-Buccaneers Monday night game that featured four roughing the passer flags Youth Harrison Smith Jersey , Texans star defender J.J. Watt tweeted, "Roughing the Passer calls are absolutely out of control."MACK ATTACKThe Raiders (0-3) haven't generated much of a pass rush since trading Mack to the Bears."It's hard to find a great one," Gruden said Wednesday when asked about edge rushers. "It's hard to find a good one. It's hard to find one."There's a great one in Chicago, where Mack has four sacks and the Bears are alone in first place for the first time in five years. The Raiders are one of three winless teams and they're last in the league with three sacks.MIDWEST MISTAKEThe Bills got the last laugh for their geographical gaffe .Upon arriving in Minneapolis on Saturday, they tweeted a short video about their 944-mile flight from Buffalo, where a Bills helmet showed the point of departure and an airplane the route. Only, instead of placing the Vikings helmet at their destination in Minnesota, they had it in Madison, Wisconsin."We actually play in the other Minnesota," the Vikings retorted on Twitter."Glad we found the right Minnesota," the Bills responded following their stunning 27-6 win .

Bort Minnesota Vikings Hats , Bort, Bort, Bort _*Blake Bortles*Jacksonville's quarterback Blake Bortles came to TCO looking fired up for the upcoming season. He didn't play well, and he looked particularly poor in redzone 11 versus 11 period. Bortles threw 5 interceptable balls, and Harrison Smith got his hands on two of them. The Vikings secondary made things hard for Bortles, but he made some poor decisions.*Forbath vs. Carlson*By now, the Vikings should have decided Daniel Carlson is the place kicker Minnesota Vikings Womens Hoodie , and cut Forbath. On Tuesday they both kicked six field goals, and they both made all six. Wednesdays practiced both kickers were up and down. The Vikings will need to make a decision very soon as a courtesy to Forbath.*The Trenches*Admittedly, the Jaguars looked stout on both their offensive and defensive lines. The Jaguars offensive of line gave Bortles plenty of time(to make a bad throw/decision), and won most of their battles against the Vikings defensive line. Their defensive line gave the Vikings offensive line a tough time. Calais Campbell is a massive human being, and showed his strength a few times against Riley Reiff.*Mike Hughes is still very good*No words are necessary...Anthony Barr among 2018’s most disappointing players so far In the early portion of the 2018 NFL season, whenever something has gone wrong for the Minnesota Vikings, it seems as though linebacker Anthony Barr is connected to it in some way. Whether it’s through any fault of his own or not. . .such as being stuck in coverage against a wide receiver Womens Customized Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , for example. . .it just seems like we haven’t been getting the Anthony Barr we’ve become accustomed to throughout much of his NFL career.Bill Barnwell of ESPN has taken notice of this, and in his column recapping the first quarter of the 2018 NFL season named Barr as his “Most Disappointing Player.” Here’s what Barnwell had to say about #55:I’m not going to speculate on why Barr hasn’t had the rough start he has in 2018 thus far, and as both Barnwell and I stated here, not everything bad that has happened to him so far this year has been his fault. I don’t know if Barr’s lack of impact. . .positive impact, in any case. . .is connected to his contract or anything like that, or if this is simply a matter of how he’s being used. After all, we heard this offseason that the Vikings wanted to use Barr more frequently as an edge rusher. I’m not sure if I’ve just missed it or whatever the case might be , but I don’t know if I’ve actually seen Barr line up with his hand in the dirt at any point this season. You would think that in the absence of Everson Griffen that the Vikings might be doing more things along those lines to generate more pass rush, but as I said. . .unless I’ve just flat out missed it, I haven’t seen anything like that so far this year.If the Vikings are going to turn around their defensive slide from the first quarter of this season, getting Barr back to making positive plays in both the run and the pass game would be a pretty solid start. Hopefully we’ll see some of that going forward, starting this Sunday in Philadelphia.

Good eveningWelcome Aboard! Even I’m not going to try and put lipstick on the pig that was yesterday’s Vikings-Bills game.Hawt Taek Sunday turned into Hawt Taek Monday which is draining but a necessary cathartic for many of you.I get it , what I don’t get are personal attacks on fellow DN’ers, so let’s curb that now.I’m going to keep doing these on Monday night as long as my new job allows and/or if it’s a common opponent for the Vikings.I don’t know who I’ll be cheering for but I’d like to see an entertaining game at least as I was not entertained at all yesterday.Stop by let’s make fun of the mistakes our potential future opponents make on the field and maybe be entertained. With that, let’s be neutral....just kidding, ah I don’t really care. Also, GIF’s are welcome in this game thread and if you’re unfamiliar with me I have a very dim view of personal attacks, they don’t belong anywhere on the Daily Norseman and particularly not in a thread I post.A few rules though, these will look oddly familiar.-No discussion of politics or religion-No feeding of the trolls-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away-While navigating the Bucs-Steelers thread, just assume it’s sarcasmZim Tzu didn’t lose he just attacked in a different direction When a warrior poet heads out on the field of battle, he expects to win. But even the best of them fail, and come up short. When that happens, you retire, lick your wounds, and come out the next time, hungrier and more determined to win than ever. But a one really expects those. A stalemate makes you feel like it was all for nothing. There was no glory in victory, there were no heroic last stands to the last man, no desperate Mike Remmers Jersey , last ditch gambles that resulted in final victory that will cause other warrior poets to reverently speak of your deeds for all time. But there is some value in a stalemate, although it’s hard to understand at the time. You know you could have won, but you also realize you could have just as easily lost. Lessons are learned, plans are improved, and if you need to sacrifice someone to send a message, then by God that’s just what you’ll do.Because you are Zim Tzu, The King In The North, Nightmare of Clan Fromage, Breaker Of Gold Fever, High Septon Of Eagan, Lord Commander Of The Iron Range And Twin Cities, Master Of Fortress TCO, Honorary Elder Of Mankato and Protector Of The Realm. Well, Zimmer actual press conference quotes are real. Nothing else is. Also you’re living in The Matrix.***There is about as much true meaning to this as there is in the image of Jesus in a piece of toast. With butter. As usual, Zim Tzu had an opening statement. What Zim Tzu meant:/runs hand through hair/sighsFuuuuuuuuccccckkkkk, man. We should’ve won that game. We should’ve lost that game. I hate kickers. Q: What went in to the decision to let Daniel Carlson go?What Zim Tzu meant: LOL are you fucking serious? Did you watch that or did you steal my old eye patches? I would have had more confidence in a fish flopping out there to try and make that kick than I had in Daniel Carlson.Q: Was it an easy decision? What Zim Tzu meant: Yeah Cheap Everson Griffen Jersey , it was pretty easy. Hiding the body will be hard, but this was easy.Q: Has the team signed Dan Bailey? What Zim Tzu said: Look, as long as he’s not Lieutenant Dan and has two goddamn legs, we’re signing him. Also, we would sign Lieutenant Dan over Daniel Carlson at this point.Q: Have you felt a little snakebit with kickers during your time here? What Zim Tzu meant: No. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why would I? I’ve just gone through more kickers than someone with malaria goes through toilet paper, and none of them can hit water if they fell out of a boat in the middle of Lake Harriet. Q: You said yesterday that you and Rick Spielman were going to sit down and discuss personnel decisions. Was Coach Priefer involved in that conversation, or did you take it out of his hands? What Zim Tsu meant: I told them what the fuck I did after I cut him. I’m sick of this kicker bullshit, man. Between quarterbacks and kickers I think we need to issue them ‘Hi my name is ________’ nametags until they last longer than a Spinal Tap drummer. Man, is this shit ever getting old.Q: Do you wish you had the two sixth round draft picks that you used to move up and select Carlson back? What Zim Tzu meant: LOL Rick will turn those into like 12 seventh round picks and then use those to try and move up and get another kicker. I told him if he does I’ll just kick him in the balls and tell him to knock that bullshit off. And I won’t miss wide right. Q: How does a tie feel the day after? Is it still strange? What Zim Tzu meant: Feels weird. Like accidentally walking in and seeing your Mom and Dad having sex. Weird and gross. I wanted to pour bleach in my eyes to cleanse them. Good God that was awful. I’m going to vomit.Q: You signed a veteran player in wide receiver Aldrick Robinson. Is that just to help your depth at the position, or is that due to Laquon Treadwell’s struggles in yesterday’s game? What Zim Tzu meant: It is 100% due to Laquon Treadwell. Q: What did you like about Robinson when you brought him in for a workout? What Zim Tzu meant: He’s not Laquon Treadwell, and Carolina won’t give us Jarius Wright back. Those fuckers. Q: Have you had a chance to talk to Treadwell? If so, what did you tell him after a difficult game like yesterdays? What Zim Tzu meant: No, or I would have ended his life, and there were too many witnesses at the time. Q: What do you think he was trying to do?What Zim Tzu meant: I think he confused his elbows for his hands. Q: What can players do differently when hitting the quarterback? What Zim Tzu meant: It’s fuckin’ bullshit. We hired a physics professor from Normandale Community College to see if he could help us. He looked at the new rules and said ‘yeah, defenses are fucked. You just can’t re-write the laws of physics. I mean, I’ll try to see if Sir Isaac Newton was an idiot, but I’m leaning more to Roger Goodell at this point. But that idiot is well in motion, and he’s going to stay in motion it looks like. Q: Does hitting a quarterback in that legal strike zone actually increase the player’s chances of landing on top of him because of where they are trying to aim? What Zim Tzu meant: FUCK YEAH it does. Explain to me how a player can move off to the side once he’s in the process of tackling an opponent. It’s fucking football, and these are fucking tackles. This rule makes absolutely no sense. It’s like the Cleveland Browns, made into a rulebook.Q: Do you think it needs to go to replay? What Zim Tzu meant: Yes, yes Cheap Kyle Rudolph Jersey , let’s take something stupid and complicate it further with more stupidity. Do you work for the government or something? Q: How do you think Brian O’Neill did filling in for Rashod Hill? What Zim Tzu meant: Who is this ‘Rashod...Hunt...Hill, did you say? Yeah, never heard of him. Q: Do you feel fortunate that Dan Bailey is available? What Zim Tzu meant: I actually prefer shitting glass whenever our kicker trots out on the field. Really spices things up for me. No, Danny Boy’s gonna get up here, andI’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse. Luca Brasi is gonna hold a gun to his head, and I’m going to assure him either his brains or his signature will be on that contract.Q: Special teams as a whole is not where you wanted it, what is your approach moving forward? What Zim Tzu meant: We’re going to institute a new policy this week. Every time we get a punt blocked, I’m going to take a football, and kick it as hard as I can right in to Mike Priefer’s ass. I might not even use a football, and just use my foot. Hope his helicopter pilot’s license is still good, because he might need to life flight his own ass to a hospital if this bullshit keeps up.Q: Did Kirk Cousins show you anything from a competitive standpoint in the fourth quarter that maybe you hadn’t seen before? What Zim Tzu meant: I mean, he played good football from the quarterback position. I know that’s a foreign concept around here for most of the last 40 years minus some notable exceptions, but this is the norm now. Need a clutch throw? Bam. Need a 4th quarter comeback? Boom. Welcome to the new world order. Drink it in, savor it, let it dance on your tongue. Glorious, isn’t it? YOU VIKE THAT? Oh shit, I owe Kirk 20 bucks now. Damn it.Q: Would going from 15 minutes to 10 minutes in overtime change anything? What Zim Tzu meant: Yeah, it meant I didn’t have an extra five minutes to play with. I could’ve fucking kept driving, scored a touchdown, and won without having to trot out Danny Shell Shock to fuck up the end of the game. So we tied. I fuckin’ hate ties. See you next week.

wide receiver conversations We’re nearing the end of our focus pieces from Football Outsiders , which have all centered around questions related to the New Orleans Saints. The latest topic involves wide receiver Michael Thomas, who has been living up to his ‘Can’t Guard Mike’ reputation in his first two seasons.Michael Thomas is in some Top 5 wide receiver conversations, where did he shine most last season and why? It’s hard to run out of good things to say when it comes to Michael Thomas. In his second season, Thomas compiled 104 receptions for 1,245 yards and 5 touchdowns on 149 targets. It was his second straight 1,000-yard receiving season. He set the Saints single season record for receptions in 2017, surpassing Jimmy Graham’s old 2011 mark. He also set an NFL record for most receptions through the first two seasons, which was previously held by Jarvis Landry (194) from 2014-2015. Thomas also became the first Saints wide receiver to make the Pro Bowl since Joe Horn (2004).Thomas finished 6th in the NFL in receiving yardage, just 31 yards shy of Adam Thielen (1,276 yards). Ahead of Thielen and Thomas were DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen, Julio Jones, and Antonio Brown. Thomas did finish third in the NFL in receptions behind Larry Fitzgerald and Jarvis Landry, and also accounted for 70 Saints first downs (third-highest receiving total in league). Michael Thomas also kicked it into another gear in his first postseason action, tallying 8 receptions for 131 yards on 9 targets against the Panthers in the Wild Card win. He followed that up by having a 7-catch, 85-yard, 2-touchdown outing against a stellar Vikings defense in which he got off to a slow start. As Kacsmar mentioned, getting into the end zone more in 2018 could pole vault him into Top 5 receiver conversations more, and there’s little to suggest that Thomas can’t get there. As good as Thomas has been for the Saints, the reality is that when it comes time to lock him on his next deal, that contract will probably give him some ‘stupid money’. If Brandin Cooks can get a 6-year , $88 million deal from the Rams and Stefon Diggs can get a 5-year, $72 million extension from the Vikings, then how much can Michael Thomas get?Saints vs. Chargers 2018: The View From Section 123 The New Orleans Saints travelled out to my backyard of Los Angeles, California this past week, having taken part in joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers in Costa Mesa, and culminating with a preseason game in the Chargers’ surrogate home in Carson.I’ve had the great fortune to see the Saints play four times in Southern California since the 2016 season after they hadn't been to the region for a very long time.I’ve given recaps for those games at San Diego (Week 4) ‘16, at Los Angeles (preseason) ‘17, and at Los Angeles (Week 12) ‘17.This will be the last time the Saints play at StubHub Center, as the Chargers are set to move into their massive new Inglewood venue with the Rams in 2020.I’ll miss seeing the Saints in this quaint venue, enjoying the chance to get up close with the team in ways that could not be afforded in usual NFL stadiums and will most certainly be impossible in LA’s upcoming mega-stadium.Much like seeing your favorite musical act in a tiny club, rather than the local arena, this was a unique change of scenery. Here we go with my view from Section 123 in the second row of the end zone near the Saints sideline***StubHub Center, the NFL’s smallest venue by a wide margin, prepares to host Who Dat Nation - SoCal Chapter.***Head Coach Sean Payton about to take advantage of a pregame photo op.***The Saints’ running backs corps.Who stays, who goes?***The Dynamic Duo of the Saints backfield, both playing in a game together for what will likely be the last time until Week 5.***Cameron Meredith snagging some passes in pregame warmups.***Benjamin Watson follows Cam in line to make a grab.***Drew Brees may seem like a lock to make this team, JT Barrett, not so much.***The 2017 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Alvin Kamara, is primed to make another splash in 2018.***The defensive backfield had long been the Saints most glaring weakness. Now the talent in the secondary is quite impressive, led by the 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Authentic Wil Lutz Jersey , Marshon Lattimore.***The best leg in the business is currently one of the longest-tenured Saints, and he’s back for another season in Black and Gold.***The pregame huddle led by Head Cheermeister, Drew Brees.***Here’s the breakout star of last year’s preseason game in Los Angeles, Al-Quadin Muhammad.***Here, Muhammad is joined by First-round pick, Marcus Davenport, in his first game action of this preseason.***Cam Jordan proves an impressive sight to behold up close.***Sheldon Rankins certainly ranks 98 out of 100 on the “Big Boy” scale.***Expectations will be undoubtedly high for this pair in 2018.Add in Ken Crawley to complete the Saints’ “No Fly Zone”.***Second-year standout, Marcus Williams has been supremely motivated since he left the field in Minnesota this past January. He was focused yet remained quite loose in warmups.***The team prepares for kickoff.***Chris Banjo focuses on the game at hand.***It’s time for the opening kickoff!***No “View From” post is complete without the “Cariello Special” cheerleader shot.***Tom Savage with the handoff to Jonathan Williams.***The diminutive venue was full of Saints fans. without a playoff berth , they're going to have to play a whole lot better in the second half of the season.Baltimore staggered to the midpoint with a .500 record and two straight losses, including a 36-21 dud at Carolina on Sunday that showcased many of the team's shortcomings: untimely penalties, a turnover-prone offense and a porous defense.Fortunately for the Ravens, they still have time to get it right."We're 4-4 in a .500 league, we're a game out of first place and we've got our season in front of us," coach John Harbaugh said Monday. "We'd all like to have to a better record than we do right now. We probably should have a better record. But the record is what it is. That's our starting point, that's where we fight from."The second half begins Sunday with a home matchup against the AFC North-leading Steelers (4-2-1), Baltimore's biggest rival. If the Ravens are going to right the ship, this would be the ideal place to start."It's perfect timing. It's a game we need this week," Harbaugh said. "I think it's all set up the way it's supposed to be set up and organized the way it's supposed to be organized from a big-picture standpoint."That Ravens were soaring just two weeks ago, when they rang up 11 sacks in a 21-0 rout of Tennessee. Last week, the defense got to New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees only once, and Cam Newton escaped Sunday without being sacked.Clearly, the opposition is making adjustments to offset the once-ferocious pass rush."Yeah, people are playing completely different ," Harbaugh said. "People aren't going to drop-back pass and just let us rush the quarterback in coverage. So I think that's the main thing. The game plans we've gotten in the last two weeks have been very different than the ones we've seen on tape."Baltimore's offense has also struggled. Joe Flacco threw two interceptions, Alex Collins fumbled immediately after taking a handoff and the Ravens had another game in which they finished with a negative turnover differential."You can't leave a guy unblocked and (let him) run into the backfield early in the game when you have a chance for a good play," Harbaugh lamented. "Those end up being devastating plays. Those are the mistakes that we've got to clean up."After that game in Tennessee, the Ravens had won three of four to move to 4-2. Now, they're just trying to remain upbeat."We are obviously not in the most ideal situation possible but we still have eight games left," Flacco said. "There is obviously a bigger threat now to let this stuff affect you mentally, let it affect the team and how we are jelling together. So we have to combat that just by being ourselves and being as tough as we possibly can."The Ravens know they have to look forward, not back. Yet Flacco acknowledged that a 4-4 record at this stage is disappointing."Overall, when you look at us, you would think that we are pretty good," he said. "There is no lying in this league. You are what your record says you are, and that's the bottom line." With all the excitement around the NFL last weekend, it was one high-scoring Saints-Buccaneers game that brought home all the money in daily fantasy contests.Tampa Bay quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 400-plus yards and four touchdowns, while adding another 36 yards and a score with his legs. Two of Fitzpatrick's top weapons, DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans Womens Alvin Kamara Jersey , cracked the 100-yard threshold and accounted for three of the receiving touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the New Orleans was forced to play catch-up, leading Drew Brees to attempt 45 passes, the majority going toward Michael Thomas (16 catches, 180 yards, one TD) and Alvin Kamara (9-112-1). There was more than 1,000 yards of total offense in the Bucs' 48-40 victory. And the $1 million Fanduel winner loaded up on the game, playing Fitzpatrick, Jackson, Thomas and Kamara.Stacking, or pairing a QB with a wide receiver or tight end, is a strategy that has been used for years by many of the best fantasy players to win daily fantasy tournaments. The Saints-Bucs game showed the power of "game stacking" — combining up to three or four players from the same game in hopes of a shootout. While it's an aggressive approach that can leave fantasy players in last place if it doesn't work, it will hit big when it hits. One of the best games to consider stacking this weekend is the San Francisco 49ers vs the Detroit Lions. Jimmy Garoppolo was held in check last week at Minnesota, which finished as the third toughest defense in 2017 against opposing QBs. The 49ers should bounce back this week at home versus the Lions, who are on a short week having given up 48 points to the Jets on Monday night. The 49ers have the fourth highest team total this week with Las Vegas oddsmakers projecting them to score close to 27 points. With wide receiver Marquise Goodwin day-to-day Womens Josh LeRibeus Jersey , Garoppolo can be paired with wide receiver Pierre Garcon and tight end George Kittle, who accounted for 47 percent of the team's targets in the opening game. If Garoppolo has a tournament-winning performance (300-plus yards or three-plus touchdowns) it is likely that both Garcon and Kittle benefit. The other value of a 49ers game stack is that you can "bring it back" with an attractive stack from the opposing team. Wide Receiver Kenny Golladay is an attractive value and his $4,800 price was locked in before he exploded Monday night for 100-plus yards and 20-plus fantasy points on DraftKings. Golladay out-snapped both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, accounting for 93-percent of the snaps and receiving 12 targets, making him the top option as part of this game stack. For daily users who prefer multi mass enter contests, composing 20 or more lineups in a single contest, the 49ers-Lions game is perfect. While Golladay is the preferred option due to value, all three Lions receivers are projected within 3 fantasy points of each other. Both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones saw 80 percent of snaps as the Lions ran a lot of three wide receiver sets and were both targeted twice in the red zone. Users composing multiple DFS lineups can game stack Garoppolo-Garcon-Kittle with Golladay on one lineup, Tate on another, and Marvin Jones on a third, ensuring that if the game does shoot out and the 49ers win, you have a lot of the combinations covered. This column was provided to The Associated Press by DailyRoto, ://dailyroto

Interview with the Enemy: Youth Mark Ingram II Jersey , folks, and we’re back again with the Interview with the Enemy series. This week, Joseph McAtee of Turf Show Times answers 5 quick questions about the final preseason matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams:***What is the position battle for the Rams that Saints fans can focus in on in the final preseason game?Do you expect to see any of the starters see time in this game - namely the likes of Todd Gurley, Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks and Ndamukong Suh?Knowing that these teams are going to meet later in the regular season, do you expect a lighter playbook this week? Not for the preseason, but in the regular season, what are general expectations from the fan base? Is another deep postseason run in sight?Just for fun: what’s the final score of the game? Who scores the first Rams TD? ***Thank-you, Joe, for taking the time to answer our questions. Saints fans, make sure you check out Joseph and the work his guys are doing over at Turf Show Times. You can follow Turf Show Times on Twitter @TurfShowTimes, and of course you can follow me @dunnellz.New Orleans vs. Tampa Bay matchups: Saints defense vs. Buccaneers offense The New Orleans Saints begin their 2018 season with a division showdown at home this Sunday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints are coming off an NFC South winning 11-5 season, and are considered to be a Super Bowl favorite. One reason why is because of a vastly improved defense that finished 10th in points allowed, and that looks to have gotten better this offseason. Opposing New Orleans will be the Buccaneers, who were expected to push for a playoff berth a year ago, but instead stumbled to a 5-11 finish. Tampa's weakness is expected to be on the defensive side of the ball, and they do have some dangerous weapons in the passing game. Unfortunately for Bucs fans, they will also be without starting quarterback Jameis Winston for this game, and the first three games of the season due to violation of the league's personal conduct policy. Today, let's have a peek at how the New Orleans defensive unit matches up against the Buccaneers offensive weapons. SAINTS RUN DEFENSE vs. BUCCANEERS RUSHING OFFENSE Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty ImagesThe Saints ranked 16th in the league at defending the run last year, and had their struggles against rushing attacks at times. They surrendered 4.4 yards per opposing run attempt, ranking just 28th Youth Alvin Kamara Jersey , and often gave up big runs early in games. Despite great improvement up front and in the secondary, the New Orleans linebacking corps still had some struggles last year, and the unit dealt with some injury problems. Rookie 3rd round pick Alex Anzalone went down for the year in the season's third game, and A.J. Klein missed four games, along with being limited in others. Anzalone and Klein both return, rejoining versatile defender Craig Robertson and Manti Te'o, who was a solid run defender for the New Orleans defense last year. The Saints upgraded their linebacking corps by adding Demario Davis in the offseason. Davis has had at least 100 tackles in four of the last five seasons, including an NFL 3rd-best 135 stops a year ago. He is a fast and aggressive sideline to sideline every down defender capable of playing any linebacking spot, and should give the team a playmaker at the position that's they've lacked. The Saints cornerbacks are good tacklers and solid run defenders, but they are often employed in man coverage, and could at times be taken away from a run play. They're ability to lock down opposing wideouts one on one however, could allow a safety such as Vonn Bell to play closer to the line of scrimmage as an extra defender against the run. Cameron Jordan has been best known for his pass rushing ability, but the truth is that he is one of the best all-around defensive ends in football. Both Alex Okafor and Trey Hendrickson are very good run defenders at end opposite Jordan, but the Saints have to answer some questions inside. Tackle Tyeler Davison is an outstanding run defender, and both Sheldon Rankins and David Onyemata are solid inside as well, but were guilty at times of getting caught off balance, giving opposing blockers the advantage. Tampa Bay ranked 27th in rushing yardage (1,448) and yards per carry (3.7) a year ago, and ran for just 8 scores. Third year back Peyton Barber returns as the starter, and led the team in rushing last year with 423 yards and 3 scores. Jacquizz Rodgers comes back as well, but the Buccaneers hope that second round pick Ronald Jones will add a dynamic element to their running game after three straight seasons of over 980 yards rushing for the University of Southern California. Bucs running backs failed to rush for a single score in two meetings with the Saints last year, averaging less than four yards per carry and less than 100 yards on the ground. Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports~Matchup to Watch: Saints LB's vs. Buccaneer RB's~ The Saints linebackers were still somewhat inconsistent this preseason , and will continue to be the defense's weak link until they prove otherwise. Athletically and talent-wise, they appear to be the best linebacking corps the team has had in quite some time, but they must be able to prevent opposing runners from breaking off big gains, or from being major contributors in the passing game. The Saints ability to shut down what looks to be a weak Tampa Bay running attack will make them one dimensional, which wouldn't bode well for a team that will be missing it's starting quarterback. SAINTS PASS DEFENSE vs. BUCCANEERS PASS OFFENSE Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty ImagesNew Orleans ranked 17th in pass defense in 2017, but more importantly than that ranking was the fact that they created pressure on their opponents. The Saints sacked opposing quarterbacks 42 times, and intercepted 20 passes, good for third in the NFL. Cam Jordan had the first All-Pro season of his stellar career, and was the focal point of the team's pressure up front. His 13 sacks were a career high, and he was often able to deflect or alter throws when he didn't bring down opposing signal callers. The Saints finally found an answer at defensive end opposite Jordan last season. Alex Okafor was having the best season of his career when he went down with an Achilles injury in the team's tenth game. His 4.5 sacks was still good for second on the defense, and he looks to be fully recovered. Trey Hendrickson got off to a slow start during his rookie year, but had a very strong preseason to make many believe that he is primed for a strong 2018 campaign. New Orleans also traded up in this spring's draft to select edge rusher Marcus Davenport with the 14th pick. Davenport was limited through the preseason with injury, but showed exciting potential over the last two exhibition games. Rankins and Onyemata only combined for 4 sacks last season, but showed the potential to be a disruptive tandem inside, and each had a fine preseason to promote those expectations. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen likes to employ an aggressive scheme that relies on man coverage and at times a high percentage of blitzing. That strategy is successful, of course, only with solid coverage in the secondary, and New Orleans has one of the best cornerbacks in the league in Marshon Lattimore. The 11th overall draft pick a year ago, Lattimore led the Saints with five interceptions and 18 pass breakups, along with shutting down some of the best wideouts in the league. Ken Crawley blossomed into a solid cover man to compliment Lattimore in his second season, and the team expects the same sort of improvement from Arthur Maulet and P.J. Williams this season. New Orleans also added Patrick Robinson this offseason as a free agent this offseason. Robinson, who played for the Saints from 2010-14 Color Rush Josh LeRibeus Jersey , was one of the better slot corners in the league last season with Philadelphia. The team's cornerbacks benefit from solid play behind them at safety. Vonn Bell is an outstanding blitzer, finishing tied for second with Okafor in sacks last year, and can also provide effective slot coverage. Kurt Coleman was added in free agency from Carolina to give the Saints another veteran player on the back end, and second year free safety Marcus Williams is a ballhawking playmaker who looks to be on the verge of stardom. The Saints coverage will be tested by a Buccaneers receiving corps that is as dangerous as any in the game. Wide receiver Mike Evans is a big, physical target considered to be one of the top wideouts in the conference. DeSean Jackson is a veteran deep threat still capable of blowing the top off a defensive coverage, and Chris Godwin looks like a breakout candidate after a good rookie season. Adam Humphries is an underrated wideout from the slot, and the Bucs have two dangerous threats at tight end in Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard. Tampa Bay's passing game ranked 4th in the NFL last season, but they will be without starting quarterback Jameis Winston for the season's first three games. Replacing him is veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has shown the potential throughout his career to get hot and tear a defense apart. Tampa's offensive line must do a better job keeping their passers upright after giving up 40 sacks a year ago. The Saints recorded six sacks in their two games against the Buccaneers a year ago, including two on Fitzpatrick when he stepped in for an injured and ineffective Winston in the team's first meeting last year while holding them to just 135 net yards through the air. Photo by Wesley Hitt/Getty Images~Matchup to Watch: Marshon Lattimore vs. Mike Evans This is a marquee showdown between two of the top players at their respective positions. Lattimore held the pro bowl receiver to just one catch for 13 yards in their first meeting last season, frustrating Evans to the point of a physical confrontation. Evans had some success in the season finale against New Orleans with 5 receptions, but was still contained to just 55 yards. The 25-yr. old Evans just signed a contract extension with the Bucs this offseason, setting the stage for an intense personal rivalry with the Saints star cornerback for years to come. WHAT TO LOOK FORPhoto by Brian Blanco/Getty ImagesThe Saints ability to shut down a pedestrian Buccaneers rushing attack early is key to their defensive success. Despite the receiving talent that the Buccaneers possess, the strength of the New Orleans defense looks like their pass defense, especially against a backup quarterback that has been prone to turnovers throughout his career. Lattimore has the ability to contain Evans again, leaving the rest of the Saints secondary to focus on the other Tampa threats. New Orleans will put heavy pressure on Fitzpatrick, increasing the likelihood of turnovers or big plays. The Saints defense was impressive throughout the preseason and training camp, particularly against the pass. The team has both the talent and athleticism to potentially be one of the top defensive units in the NFL, and will look to make a strong statement to open what they hope will be a championship run in 2018.

SEATTLE -- J.A. Happ had a long wait between innings, and it was totally worth it for him and the Toronto Blue Jays.Happ became the major leagues second 20-game winner and Russell Martin and Michael Saunders each hit a two-run homer, lifting Toronto over the Seattle Mariners 10-2 on Tuesday night to move into first in the AL wild-card race.Toronto moved a game ahead of Baltimore and remained 2 1/2 games ahead of Detroit. Seattle lost for the fourth time in five games and trails Toronto by four games.Happ was the patient beneficiary when the Jays took the lead with an eight-run fourth inning.I actually came back up in the tunnel here and threw a little bit with Josh Thole trying to keep my arm loose, Happ said. But, when were scoring eight an inning, or six an inning, not sure which one it was, but Ill definitely take that any day.Happ (20-4) allowed two runs, six hits and a walk over five innings, striking out eight while winning for the 14th time in his last 15 decisions. Hes the first Toronto pitcher to reach 20 wins since Roy Halladay in 2008.Twenty wins. Its hard to do at the big league level, the best baseball in the world, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. Hes had some kind of season. Hes going to keep going strong, but its quite an accomplishment.Martin and Saunders each homered off Hisashi Iwakuma (16-12) during the Blue Jays big inning. Weve leaned on him for the second half of the season. The Mariners took a 2-0 lead in the third when Robinson Cano lined a two-run triple off the knee of second baseman Travis that caromed all the way into the right-field corner. That one inning, they put a couple on the board, some tough plays, Gibbons said. But what he (Happ) did, he held them in check, limited it to two and then our offense took over, which was good to see. We havent seen one of those in a while. Sulaiman becomes the sixth president of the organization. .S District Court against Major League Baseball, the Office of the Commissioner and his own union, the MLBPA. LONDON -- Angelique Kerber scrapped and scrambled and pushed Serena Williams to the limit. The German hustled from corner to corner for great gets, crouched low for squat shots, and mixed off-speed slices with searing flat winners. In the end, Kerbers stellar counter-punching defense was not enough to defuse the power game and booming serves of Williams, who prevailed 7-5, 6-3 in the Wimbledon final on Saturday.Kerber beat Williams in three sets in the Australian Open final in January for her first Grand Slam title. But, this time, there was no stopping Williams from equaling Steffi Grafs Open-era record of 22 major championships.I think I played what I could today, the fourth-seeded Kerber said. Serena was serving unbelievable today. At the end I was trying everything, but she deserved it today. I was not the one who lost the match. I think she won the match. The left-handed Kerber had not dropped a set on the way to her second Grand Slam final of the year and beat Serenas sister, five-time champion Venus, in the semifinals. The 28-year-old Kerber was bidding to become the first player to beat the sisters back-to-back in the semifinals and final at a Grand Slam. But Serena had too much firepower: She served 13 aces, to none for Kerber. The German had only nine unforced errors, to go with 12 winners. But Williams piled up 39 winners, along with 21 unforced errors.Today just her serve was much better, Kerber said. On grass the serve is also a little bit strange because its tougher to return it. That was the only thing which changed from Australia.Kerber came out fighting from the start, trading hard groundstrokes with Williams, mixing up her play and holding serve. But a brief lapse in the 12th game proved costly. Serving at 6-5 down, 15-all, Kerber made a forehand error followed by a backhand error to suddenly ggive Williams two break and set points. Cheap Wholesale Adidas Shoes. .Kerber saved the first with an easy forehand, but Williams converted on the next with a cross-court backhand winner to take the first set.I think I was still playing not bad, Kerber said. I think Serena was returning better there. She was just going for it. I played two points a little bit too short, and she was there, and she goes for it. She did everything right.Kerber didnt fold. She picked up her game in the second set, pumping her arms to celebrate winners as the Centre Court crowd tried to will her back into the match.Kerber finally earned a break point -- her only one of the match -- at 3-3. At 30-40, Williams turned to her biggest weapon: She hit a 117 mph ace to save the break point, followed with a 124 mph ace and held for 4-3.This is how Serena is playing, Kerber said. I had one breakpoint, and I couldnt do (anything). In the next game, Kerber went up 40-15 but Williams began attacking and forced a break point. Kerber hit perhaps her worst shot of the match -- a backhand long -- to concede the break. Williams served out the match at love.Of course, Im disappointed, Kerber said. But at the end Im also proud about that what I did. That makes it a little easier for me.Kerber will move up to No. 2 in the rankings next week behind Williams, who has been No. 1 since February 2013.I think its tough to follow in her footsteps, Kerber said. The NCAA enforcement department reduced the average duration of its most serious cases by nine percent while its case load grew by 26 percent over the last three years, according to an internal review. Wholesale Jordans For Sale .The department underwent an overhaul that included new leadership and personnel, along with numerous reforms, starting in 2013. Jon Duncan was named director of enforcement in 2014. The changes came at a time when NCAA enforcement was receiving criticism for mishandling the Miami case involving booster Nevin Shapiro.Part of those reforms required a three-year self-assessment delivered to NCAA president Mark Emmert. The NCAA released Thursday the reviews done by enforcement and the committee on infractions.Timeliness and the duration of cases was one of the main areas in which members asked to be addressed. The internal report says in 2013 enforcement concluded 10 investigations. The average duration of the investigation was 8.7 months. In 2015, 49 cases were concluded and the average duration of the investigation was 7.8 months. The report said that more sophisticated data, modified staff make-up, guarding against the scope of the investigation growing and increased member communication were among the ways the enforcement department was able to deliver more timely investigations. The report also cited improved efficiency in the processing of tips and information that could lead to a case being opened. Enforcement receives approximately 600 pieces of raw information each year. After implementing changes to expedite assessment and assignment, the average number of days the process takes decreased from 60 in 2013 to three in 2016. Wholesale Jordans Shoes China . GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Floridas kicking situation was the worst in the Southeastern Conference last season and among the least productive in the country. It was so inadequate that coach Jim McElwain held open tryouts -- in the middle of the season. After two more failed field goal attempts in the regular-season finale against rival Florida State, McElwain declared well get a kicker. And well get a good one.The 25th-ranked Gators may have gotten the best one available.Eddy Pineiro, a sophomore who attended ASA Community College in Miami last season but didnt play football, is expected to dramatically improve Floridas field-goal fortunes this fall. His first opportunity to kick in front of 90,000 will happen Saturday against UMass.Im excited, said Pineiro, who has made a number of 70-yard-plus kicks and put them on YouTube. I think people exaggerate (the pressure). But if you work on the same thing every single day, why cant you do it in a game? ... You should be able to put a blindfold on and kick it because its the same kick every single time. Its muscle memory.Pineiro makes it sound easy: see ball, kick ball. But Florida learned last season just how difficult a task kicking can be.The Gators missed five extra points and 10 field goals in 2015. They made just 7 of 17 field goals, a 41.2 percent success rate that ranked 127th out of 128 teams in the nation. McElwain used three different kickers, including a dental student added to the roster late in the year, but nothing fixed the problem.Seeing them go through those kicking struggles last year was pretty depressing, Pineiro said.McElwain tried just about everything while experienced junior Austin Hardin, who ended up making 5 of 14 attempts, kept struggling. He turned to Jorge Powell, but the walk-on injured a knee trying to make a tackle against LSU and missed the final seven games. That prompted McElwain to open things up to Floridas student body.More than 200 students respoonded to the open call, and dental student Neil MacInnes won the multistage kicking competition. Cheap Jordans Wholesale. Still, McElwain stuck with Hardin -- the Gators ended up going for it on fourth down 27 times -- while putting the full recruiting press on Pineiro.Pineiro eventually de-committed from Alabama and enrolled at Florida in January.Hes essentially been Floridas kicker since, even though hes never kicked in a game. Pineiro was a standout soccer player at Miami Sunset High School, so his first real action came in Floridas spring game, where he made all five extra points and three lengthy field goals.I didnt think people were going to scream out my name after an extra point, so that was pretty interesting, said Pineiro, who will wear No. 15, made famous in Gainesville by Tim Tebow.Pineiro wasnt perfect: He hit from 52, 46 and 56 yards, and missed from 53 and 52. He also had nine touchbacks on 10 kickoffs, so McElwain was clearly testing him.The coach hasnt stopped, either.McElwain challenges Pineiro at nearly every practice.Lately hes been putting the whole team around me while Im kicking my field goal, just screaming in my ear, throwing water in my face, trying to get me off-balance and stuff, Pineiro said. So far, Im like 4-for-4 on those, whatever you want to call them, pressure kicks. So hes happy about that.McElwain will be even happier if Pineiro makes them in games, something the Gators rarely did last season.I dont want to sit here and put all these high expectations on him, McElwain said. I mean, the guy hasnt kicked in a game yet, right? And yet all of a sudden, were ready to say this guy is the Golden Toe Award or whatever. At the same time, I do know this: He has the talent to do it, and I love the way he goes about his work.---AP college football website: Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap Adidas Hockey Jerseys Wholesale Nike Baseball Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys China Wholesale NFL Jerseys China Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Free Shipping Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys Authentic Cheap NHL Jerseys Canada Cheap Nike MLB Jerseys Cheap Soccer Jerseys China NCAA Jerseys Cheap Nike NHL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys Store Cheap Football Jerseys Store Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Jerseys NCAA China Jerseys NFL Cheap Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys ' ' '
