A rapid-fire goal apiece in the opening five minutes has set the tone for an entertaining 2-2 A-League draw between Perth and Western Sydney. Bobby Hull Jersey .It took only 31 seconds for the Wanderers to open the scoring through Nicolas Martinez. The Glory answered four minutes later with an Alexander Grant header from a spot on free kick.A Glory goal in the second half from Andy Keogh was cancelled out for Wanderers by Brendon Santalab as the two teams shared the spoils.Glory now have two wins, two draws and a loss and will take on an unbeaten Sydney FC next Sunday on the road. The Wanderers have just the one win and a loss along with three draws and face Melbourne Victory away on Saturday.Sundays nib Stadium attendance of 13,290 was over six thousand more than at the Test match at the WACA Ground (7207).The Wanderers quickly caught Glory off guard, pushing forward before an incisive pass in-field from Mitch Nichols found Martinez unchecked. He had time to set up his shot and delivered a cracker from well outside the box for Western Sydneys quickest A-League goal. The joy was short-lived with Perth answering thanks to a perfect free-kick from Nebojsa Marinkovic. Grant got on the end of it to head it home to level.Things settled the rest of the first half with Castro for Glory providing the best chances.Glory went ahead just six minutes into the second half. A cross from Chris Harold was palmed away by Western Sydney keeper Andrew Redmayne but Keogh was there to pick up the scraps and tap in his fourth goal of the season. It was then Santalabs turn to nab his fourth of the season to level scores. He was positioned by a pass from Martinez which sliced Perths defence. He had no trouble finishing the 67th minute ball for the final score of the contest.Wanderers coach Tony Popovic was disappointed not to capitalise on the perfect start but getting a goal back late to split the points was pleasing.Well have a look at a few things that we could have done better that probably could have got us three points with the amount of control of the match we had, Popovic said. But we came back from being 2-1 down which is not easy away from home so it was a good point.Glory coach Kenny Lowe was serving the second week of his two-game suspension so was watching on from the stands. Andy Ord was in charge and felt the draw was fitting.I think a draw was a fair result, he said.I dont think we did enough to win it and I dont think they did enough to win, so on the balance of the game we probably got what we deserved. Adam Lowry Jersey . Artturi Lehkonen, Joni Nikko and Ville Leskinen had the other goals for Finland (1-0) while Juuse Saros stopped 28 shots. Tim Robin Johnsgard had the lone goal for Norway (0-2). Shawn Matthias Jersey . He said Tuesday thats a big reason why he is now the new coach of the Tennessee Titans. Whisenhunt said he hit it off quickly with Ruston Webster when interviewing for the job Friday night. . After slipping from the summit during the week, the Gunners overcame struggling Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains second-half brace. Fifteen years into his career as a WWE superstar, John Cena has heard the rumors and assumptions regarding his future. With myriad acting, hosting and marketing opportunities sprouting around him, fans and critics alike have questioned whether the 15-time WWE world champion might soon transition into a part-time wrestling schedule.Further questions abound about whether Cena was ready to follow in the footsteps of Dwayne The Rock Johnson -- whom he calls the ideal example of WWE superstars having talent beyond the WWE ring -- down a road toward full-time crossover into the mainstream.Cena, 39, understands his situation to be unique.Ill answer it like this: Every single day that I dont have an outside obligation, I will fulfill any commitment that I have to WWE, Cena told And I will attach this quote with it that every outside obligation I have is to expand the brand of WWE and there has never been a superstar to say that before.Cenas plate, at the moment, is considerably full. One day after competing in a triple-threat match for the WWE world championship at the No Mercy pay-per-view, he announced a partnership with Wonderful Pistachios on Monday for a new $55 million advertising campaign. As the voice of a new character, Ernie the Elephant, Cena will debut a pair of Get Crackin ads during Monday Night Football and Dancing with the Stars. Later in the football season, he will be joined in two more ads by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. The character has a bit of a sense of humor; hes not afraid to tell you how he feels, Cena said of Ernie the Elephant. So I kind of fit that mold as well.In between WWE live events, Cena has also been travelling to promote his role on E!s new series Total Bellas, a spin-off of its popular Total Divas reality series featuring WWE superstars. Earlier this year, he starred in a series of Hefty trash bag ads and hosted both the 2016 ESPY Awards on ESPN and the first season of the competition reality series American Grit on Fox.Along with his burgeoning acting career, Cena has proven the crossover ability of his personal brand, from Hollywood to Madison Avenue. Hes quick to remind us that it hasnt been an overnight thing. It hasnt been like, Here kid, heres the key to the city, Cena said. Keep in mind it has been a 15-year journey for me and an over 30-year journey for the WWE. I guess my mission statement is now to let the world know on a global scale that WWE certainly is a wonderful form of entertainment but its superstars are more than just superstars inside the ring. They do so much more outside the ring and have so much more to offer.Along with a tireless work ethic, Cena has become a master of corporatespeak, with subtle product references and polished responses meant to protect the interests of both the company and his own brand. It has left no surprise as to why hes so often called upon to represent WWE in a variety of public forums. The self-proclaimed Face That Runs The Place hasnt been shy, either, about promoting his ability to speak Mandarin or his knowledge of WWEs business plans. Cena is a brand ambassador as much as he is a promoter, which is a role he admits that he envisioned for himself from the very first time he stepped into a WWE ring. Its a reflection of passion, Cena said. The Wonderful pistachios campaign is a great example -- I dont involve myself with a project I dont feel passionate about. I could talk your ear off about internal statistics for WWE and what we have planned for the future. Why do I know that stuff? Because I like to do all that stuff. That sort of depth and feel isnt for everybody. Some people just like getting into the ring and doing what they do.Along with his competing passions outside the ring, the idea that Cena was ready for a decreased workload took greater significance at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 in Brooklyn, New York. Following Cenas loss too AJ Styles, he left behind his armband in the center of the ring. Matt Hendricks Jersey. The gesture appeared to be very much symbolic of something greater, akin to when amateur wrestlers leave behind their shoes in the center of the mat following their final match. Moreover, Cena disappeared from WWE television in the subsequent weeks. So was there significance to the gesture that went beyond Cenas on-screen storyline (which included Styles wearing the armband in the aftermath)?Of course there was significance for me in leaving the Never Give Up armband in the ring, Cena said. When pressed for more details, Cena wouldnt budge.Thats for me, man, he said. This is pro wrestling, after all. Its always difficult to tell whether a performer is furthering a scripted storyline when speaking publicly. In Cenas case, there is even more blurring of that line considering hes one of the last WWE superstars to compete under his own given name. While Cena certainly recognizes the advantages of that, hes just as quick to admit the challenges that come with it.There is no off being John Cena, its always on, Cena said. In a way, I think that has helped me, because over the years I have been able to be humble. I have been able to be humiliated in front of the WWE universe in a good way. They have shared in my successes and my failures and it went from 12 years ago this kid trying to make it in the WWE using hip-hop as a vehicle trying to establish an identity to over a decade and a half later everybody just relating to the human being that just is John Cena.Transitioning from a more urban and brash character to the wholesome All-American he portrays today was much more calculated than evolutionary, Cena says. He credits his forward-thinking vision that WWE would soon switch their content to a PG-rated platform (which it did in 2008) and admitted he had become stagnant as The Doctor of Thuganomics. To me, there was definitely some method behind it, Cena said. Hip-hop certainly is in sync with the youth and every day that passes I grow less youthful, as much as I have tried to hold onto it. I knew that the platform really wouldnt be indicative of success. I knew [the PG format] would just drastically change the style and almost cripple the character so I was the one proactively who said no and said I would like to take everything another way.Closing in on age 40, Cena admits that hes working smarter inside the ring and constantly evolving, but that doesnt mean hes holding back on taking risks. He quickly referenced his match with Styles at SummerSlam (praised as one of 2016s best matches), offering it up for folks who need to be critical to go back and watch on the WWE Network.Cenas answers to tough questions are too well-thought out to reveal anything he hadnt planned for, making it difficult to guess just how active he intends to be as a wrestler entering 2017. Hes committed to only choosing outside opportunities that reflect WWE superstars in the best possible light, in an effort to change preconceived notions of pro wrestlers outside of the ring.In July it was announced that Fox had renewed his American Grit series for as second season. He has also taken on more acting roles of late, including appearances in four movies in 2015.As far as his wrestling career, Cena remains committed to giving his all each time he steps into the ring. Its all part of what he calls an eternal promise he has made to himself regarding whether he can still perform at the same level of his peers.Right now the roster is loaded with characters, Cena said. It demands that you perform at your best every single night. I dont believe in shortchanging the consumer. I believe in giving the WWE universe what they want and the day I cant do that is the day I move aside. CLEMSON, S. Pittsburgh Pirates Jerseys .C. -- Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson isnt worried about his teams sluggish start or where he fits into the Heisman Trophy race after week one. He said hes focused on victories, like the one his team picked up in their season opener at Auburn. As a whole the offense, we did a pretty good job, Watson said Monday about his teams closer-than-expected 19-13 win Saturday night. Sometimes, though, we just kind of slipped up.No. 2 Clemson (1-0) plans to fix those bobbles at home Saturday against Troy (1-0).The Tigers left Auburn with 399 yards and 19 points, both down from the nearly 515 yards and 39 points they averaged last year on the way to the national championship game. Watson, one of the leading Heisman contenders, threw for 248 yards and a touchdown -- also off his average passing numbers from 2015.Watson believes the performance has more to do with timing and miscommunication issues than with Auburns defense. And he shoulders the blame. The tempo couldve been better and that starts with me, Watson said. I take responsibility for that, driving the team, driving the offense, making sure everyones getting set and being focused on that play at the moment.Lapses and mistakes were not topics discussed about Clemsons offense this offseason.Led by Watson, the Tigers figured to be a point-a-minute powerhouse, unstoppable by all but the very elite college defenses. It didnt always look that way at Auburn.Clemsons marquee players had their moments. Watson threw the game-winning TD on a pretty 16-yard spiral to Hunter Renfrow in the final quarter. Tailback Wayne Gallman, the schools single-season rushing record holder, gained 123 yards and had a TD. And Mike Williams had nine catches and 174 yards after sitting out last season with a neck injury.Still, it left some, including co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott scratching their heads about the errors.Really, its a humbling experience for our guys to say, `Hey, now we have to go on the field and live up to all the expectations and not focus on what everybodys saying, Elliott said.Elliott said when he looked at the stats coming off the field Saturday night, he was pleased his group got almost 400 yards against a Southeastern Conference. When digging deeper, he circled the missed chances like Williams first-half, mid-field fumble and Watsons interception that kept things tighter than they shouldve been.Weve just got to understand that weve got to get off to a fast start like we always do, Elliott said. We cannot have self-inflicted wounds. We had some critical errors at critical times. It will be the second straight week Clemson and Dabo Swinney face a former Tiger defense coordinator. Last Saturday night, Auburns Kevin Steele had his players geared up to slow down Clemson. This time, its Vic Koenning, who led the defense from 2005-2008, a stretch that included seven games under Swinney, then an interim coach.Troy opened with a 57-17 win over Austin Peay last week. Its just another game, Troy tailback Jordan Chunn said of facing Clemson. Well have to carry (ourselves) the same way, just like we did with Austin Peay, have the same game plan.Watson will take the same approach this week as he has all off season -- largely steering clear of the Heisman hype, his NFL future and the offensive show many expect ever time the Tigers line up. Clemsons players, he said, are better skilled than a year ago. Just wait, Watson says, and the air show will come.We understand what we have and we understand what we can do, Watson said. Just because we didnt put up 500 yards and 40 points doesnt mean that were still not explosive.---AP college football website: Tyler Glasnow Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. David Freese Jersey . Dusautoir, the former World Player of the Year, sustained a torn bicep playing for Toulouse in the Heineken Cup on Saturday. The flanker, who has played 65 times for France, is expected to be out for up to four months. . Jason Zucker and Matt Cooke also scored for Minnesota, which has won five of six. Kuemper made five saves in the first, nine in the second, and nine in the third. The rookies best save came with 2:17 left in the third period when he denied former Wild forward Matt Cullen from just outside of the crease on the right side. Pound the ground was a common theme around college football over the weekend. One running back recorded the most carries by anyone in 13 years, another went over 300 yards and a quarterback rushed for the most touchdowns by anyone at his position this season.Lets start with Texas DOnta Foreman. His 51 rushing attempts in a 24-21 overtime loss to Kansas were a school record and the most in the Bowl Subdivision since Michigans Chris Perry ran 51 times against Michigan State in 2003.Foreman finished with 250 yards, marking his fourth straight game of 250 or more and his 12th straight over 100. But he fumbled twice, with the second one at the Kansas 13 as Texas was trying to put away the game.Foreman built on his national rushing lead. Hes averaging 186.3 yards a game, 20 more than San Diego States Donnel Pumphrey, who was held to 78 yards by Wyoming.West Virginias Justin Crawford joined Foreman and Utahs Joe Williams as the only running backs to go over 300 yards in a game this season. Crawford had 331 on 24 carries in the 56-28 loss to Oklahoma . Like Foreman, Crawford also had a crucial fumble, losing the ball at the OU 4 with his team down 21-0 early in the second quarter.Iowa States Joel Lanning tied the school record with five rushing touchdowns in a 66-10 win over Texas Tech, the most TD runs by a quarterback since Navys Keenan Reynolds had the same number against East Carolina in September 2015.Other top rushing performances: Stanfords Christian McCaffrey broke a 90-yard run, longest in the nation Saturday, and finished with 284 on 31 carries against California; South Carolinas Rico Dowdle had 226 yards against Western Carolina; Florida States Dalvin Cook had 225 yards against Syracuse; and Missouris Damarea Crockett of Missouri had 225 against Tennessee.---Other notable statistical feats:SOMETHING IN THE AIRFreshman Dom Maggio of Wake Forest and Corey Bojorquez of New Mexico each popped 80-yard punts, tied for the third-longest in the nation.Maggios came in the third quarter against Clemson and beat his previous long of 67 yards. Bojorquezs boomer in the secoond quarter was 1 yard off the school record that has stood since 1958 and topped his previous best of 66 yards. Jung-ho Kang Jersey. LONG PLAYSFloridas Austin Appleby and Tyrie Cleveland connected for a 98-yard pass play that tied for the longest in the nation this season. Appleby hit Cleveland with a deep ball from his end zone, the freshman shook off a defensive back at about midfield and ran to the end zone in a game the Gators won 16-10 .The other long play Saturday came on a screen pass from Maryland freshman Max Bortenschlager to D.J. Moore, who took it 92 yards for the Terrapins only touchdown in a 28-7 loss to Nebraska.KICK RETURNST.J. Logans 100-yard kick return against the Citadel was the longest ever by a North Carolina player at the Tar Heels Kenan Stadium. Two visiting players, in 1936 and 2012, had 100-yarders at the stadium. For Logan, it was his second kick return for a touchdown this season and fourth in his career.South Carolinas Deebo Samuel also had a 100-yard kickoff return, against Western Carolina.MR. EFFICIENCYOregon States Marcus McMaryion was a model of efficiency in a 42-17 win over Arizona , completing 16 of 19 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns. His pass efficiency rating of 288.211 was second-best in the nation this season behind Chad Littons incredible 367.225 for Marshall against Morgan State.Oregon State hadnt had a QB throw for five TDs since Sean Mannion in 2013. McMaryion had come into the game with only four TD passes for the season.SACK ATTACKHoustons 11 sacks against Louisville on Thursday were the second-most in program history and pushed the Cougars from 36th in the nation to ninth, with 36. The 11 sacks tie for most in the nation with Utahs 11 against Arizona State.Myles Garrett of Texas A&M had the most sacks individually, recording 4 1/2 against UTSA to more than double his season total. MANHATTAN, Kan. Lenny Dykstra Jersey . -- The first few games of Dean Wades sophomore season showed that he may have fallen into the sophomore slump but on Tuesday night, there were new signs of a slump.Wade had a season-high 13 points and DJ Johnson and Barry Brown added 12 points each to help Kansas State beat Robert Morris 61-40 in a regional round matchup of the Barclays Center Classic.I felt like I was letting the team down by not playing aggressive, Wade said. So tonight I wanted to come out and be as aggressive as I could and still be smart with the ball. The Wildcats (4-0) never trailed and shot 47 percent on 23-of-49 shooting. Wade also grabbed nine rebounds and Johnson had eight.Although Kansas State led the entire game, there were mental lapses for the Wildcats that led to sloppy play after Kansas State jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead.During shoot around, I said we cant leave for New York till tomorrow, Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber said.We have to take care of business today. Today we were very impatient with the ball, you had to keep moving the basketball with guys making different cuts. Its kind of hard to explain.Robert Morris (0-5) shot 23 percent on 13 of 57 shooting and Kansas State was able to separate during the Colonials scoring droughts. On top of their shooting woes, Robert Morris also committed 25 turnovers. The 23 percent shooting was the lowest for a Kansas State opponent since Long Beach State shot 19 percent back in 2013.Isaiah Still led the Colonials in scoring with 10 points on 3-of-17 shooting and Aaron Tate grabbed 11 rebounds.BIG PICTURERobert Morris: The Colonials 25 turnovers were a season high.Kansas State: The Wildcats were the first team this season to hold Robert Morris under 50 points.STAT OF THE NIGHTDespite losing, Robert Morris edged the Wildcats on the boards 40-38.FRESHMAN STANDOUTKansas State freshman Isaiah Maurice came off the bench to grab a season high six rebounds.QUICK COMPAREKansas States DJ Johnson overpowered his Robert Morris counterpart Braden Burke. Johnson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while Burke grabbed eight rebounds but could only muster two points on 1-of-9 shooting.UP NEXTRobert Morris: Robert Morris will finish out their portion of the Barclays Center Classic with Hampton on Friday and then face the winner of Stony Brook and Towson the following night.Kansas State: Kansas State will travel to Brooklyn for two games in the Barclays Center Classic. They will take on Boston College on Friday night. Were almost at the halfway point of the season, the time of year when the top teams in the country start to separate by rising to the top of their conference standings. David Pastrnak Jersey .Clemson has emerged as the clear frontrunner to win the ACC, Washington has proven to be the team to beat in the Pac-12, and Alabama is still ... Alabama. In the Big Ten, the Ohio State-Michigan game cant get here soon enough, and the Big 12 is simply playing from behind, once again depending upon a backloaded league schedule to impress the selection committee when it matters most.In the Group of 5, Houstons top four dreams were shattered on Saturday with an American Athletic Conference West Division loss to Navy.Conference play has that effect, as teams knock each other out of the postseason picture and undefeated ranked teams -- gasp! -- lose. There are still 11 undefeated teams remaining, including nine from the Power 5 conferences. At this point last year, there were 16 unbeaten teams, and only one - Clemson - stayed that way.Can this years Power 5 frontrunners stay the course until Dec. 4 when the College Football Playoff selection committee releases its final ranking? The sport has a tendency to sort itself out.In many ways, it already has.Heres a closer look at the College Football Playoff pecking order heading into Week 7. For more, watch tonights College Football Playoff: Top 25 (ESPN, 7 p.m. ET).Tier I: Alabama stands aloneUntil proven otherwise, Alabama remains king. Not even Ole Miss, which was the only team to beat the Tide in each of the past two seasons, was able to finish the job on its home turf this year. Heres the tricky part: Alabama is beginning its toughest three-game stretch of any season since 2005, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information. The Tide will travel to Tennessee this weekend, come home to face Texas A&M on Oct. 22, then have a bye week to prepare for a road trip to LSU on Nov. 5.According to ESPNs Sharon Katz, an average FBS team would have a .05 percent chance to win all three games, which includes three opponents ranked in the top 12 of ESPNs Football Power Index (two on the road). Alabama isnt exactly average. ESPNs FPI gives the Tide a 29 percent chance to win its next three games. If it does? Alabama stands alone -- again.Tier II: Win and youre inCandidates: Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Washington, Texas A&MThis group likely features the Big Ten champ, Pac-12 champ and ACC champ -- a forecast of three of the top four playoff spots. Add in the SEC champ (See: Tier I) and theres your top four.Only one question here: Whos the Big Ten champ? No, we cant fast-forward to Nov. 26, when Ohio State hosts Michigan, but that will be The Answer to the Big Tens playoff question. Its possible -- but extremely unlikely -- for the runner-up to get into the top four, especially if the other candidates here run the table and win their leagues. According to ESPNs FPI, Clemson has a 36 percent chance to enter bowls undefeated, Michigan 34 percent and Washington 31 percent. We will know a lot more about the Buckeyes on Saturday after their trip to Wisconsin, an opponent Michigan already defeated. And then theres Texas A&M. The Aggies already have wins over UCLA, Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee, but none of it will amount to a top-four spot if the Aggies cant win at Alabama on Oct. 22 (See: Tier I). ESPNs FPI gives A&M a 29.3 percent chance at the upset. If the Aggies can pull it off, it will change the playoff picture instantly.?Tier III: Playoff worthy but needs helpCandidates: LouisvilleThe ACC appears to be the Power 5 conference with the best chance to get two teams in the top four in spite of the Cardinals narrow, thrilling loss at Clemson on Oct. 1. The only reason this scenario isnt far-fetched is because Louisville has looked like a top-four team with Lamar Jackson at quarterback, and its favored to win each remaining game by at least 70 percent. The problem is Houston is the only ranked team remaining on the Cardinals schedule, and Houston just lost to Navy. Now, Houston might not even win its own West Division in the American Athletic Conference. It would still be a respectable win for Louisville, but it wont carry as much weight with the committee as it would have had the Cougars been fighting for a spot in the top four. Louisvilles best hope is not only to win out, but to have another conference champion with a weaker strength of schedule slip up and have two losses.Tier IV: The Power 5 undefeatedsCandidates:?Baylor, Nebraska, West VirginiaBaylor has almost no margin for error, as it faces the same nonconference strength-of-schedule questions it had in the first two years of the CFP. With wins against SMU, Northwestern State and Rice, an undefeated season is the Bears only realistic hope at cracking the top four.Nebraska has quietly gotten off to a 5-0 start, but the Huskers have back-to-back road trips at Wisconsin (Oct. 29) and Ohio State (Nov. 5) -- the only two games on their schedule ESPNs FPI doesnt project them to win. If they escape those trips, its time for a more serious conversation. The same can be said for West Virginia, which has played only one FBS team (Kansas State) with a winning record. If the Mountaineers are still undefeated heading into November, after road trips to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, thats only half the battle. Texas, OU and Baylor still await. Brandon Carlo Jersey .Y. -- Sabres defenceman Tyler Myers had no intention of changing his hard-hitting style before taking part in a disciplinary hearing for his illegal check to New Jersey forward Dainius Zubrus head. Kevan Miller Jersey . William Carrier opened the scoring for Cape Breton (6-4-2), but Andrew Ryan tied the game and Brent Andrews put the Mooseheads (8-6-0) in front for good with a short-handed goal at 13:49 of the second period. . Kozun faked to the forehand and beat Monsters starter, Calvin Pickard, pad side in the second round for the winner. Spencer Abbott also scored in the shootout for the Marlies (25-13-4). MIAMI -- The Marlins walked half a block alongside a hearse carrying their ace away from Marlins Park at the start of a funeral motorcade Wednesday, and then peeled away with watery eyes to go back inside and play a game.Drained by four days of grieving Jose Fernandezs death, they didnt have much left for the New York Mets.Jay Bruce hit his 32nd home run, James Loney also homered and the Mets helped their NL wild-card chances by beating Miami 5-2.New York began the night leading the Giants by half a game and the Cardinals by 1 1/2 games in the race for the two wild-card spots. The Mets conclude the regular season with three games at Philadelphia starting Friday. The Marlins loss in their home finale eliminated them from playoff contention. Despite high hopes this year, they still havent been to the postseason since 2003.That was the last thing on their minds five hours before first pitch. They wore T-shirts reading RIP while clustering around the limousine carrying Fernandezs casket to church for a viewing. Spectators, including Mets players and manager Terry Collins, lined the start of the route. It was terrible, Miami pitcher Tom Koehler said. I never thought Id have to be part of that. You have a 24-year-old who is on top of the world, and were walking behind his hearse. Were watching Miamis hero drive down the street.Added reliever Mike Dunn: You felt like you were pushing off your brother.Sympathetic as they are, the Mets are also in a tight wild-card race. Loney hit a two-run homer in the second, and Bruce added a two-run homer in the fifth. Curtis Granderson went 4 for 4, and Jose Reyes doubled home a run.Seth Lugo (5-2) went 5 1/3 innings and alloowed two runs, both on Martin Prados eighth homer. David Backes Jersey. Four relievers completed a seven-hitter, and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect ninth for his 50th save, most in the majors.Jose Urena (4-9) allowed five runs in five innings, hiking his ERA to 6.13.RECORDSThe Mets finished 12-7 against Miami. The Marlins finished 40-40 at home.GOOD SEATS STILL AVAILABLEThe announced crowd was 24,335. The Marlins finished last in the NL in attendance for the 11th time in the past 12 years, averaging 21,405 per game.PITCHING PLANSAs the Mets chase one of the two wild-card berths, Collins is already weighing potential pitching decisions on the final day of the regular season Sunday, when Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to start. If you wake up Sunday morning and say, `OK, were in, but we dont necessarily have home-field advantage, do we use Syndergaard? Collins asked. Or do we say, `Hes going to pitch the first playoff game, no matter where its at?If the Mets have clinched home-field advantage, they might start Syndergaard on Sunday and have him throw about 25 pitches to ensure hes sharp for the wild-card playoff game on Wednesday.Otherwise he goes eight days without pitching, Collins said.UP NEXTRHP Bartolo Colon (14-8, 3.42) might start Friday on short rest when the Mets open their final regular season series at Philadelphia. RHP Robert Gsellman (3-2, 2.56) is also an option, but Colon threw only 47 pitches when he took the loss Monday against Miami.Marlins RHP Andrew Cashner (5-11, 5.13) will make his final start Friday at Washington. VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Ryan Dzingel might have found a home on the Ottawa Senators second line. Tomas Hertl Jersey .The second-year forward had the first two-goal game of his career and Craig Anderson made 22 saves Tuesday night as Ottawa defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-0.Dzingel suited up alongside Derick Brassard and Bobby Ryan after spending the first five games of the season on the fourth line, and the speedy wing made the most of his opportunity. It was easy to play with those guys. Theyre great NHLers and great people, Dzingel said. Two good friends, and to be honest I just had a lot of fun out there -- just trying not to get in their way.I was proud to play with those two guys. The 24-year-old split time between Ottawa and the AHL last season, registering three goals and six assists in 30 NHL games. He already has four goals and two assists through six games this season. The whole summer I didnt just focus on just making the team, said the native of Wheaton, Illinois. I came to make a difference. My mindset was not to just be good enough, it was to be better.Dzingel said moving up the lineup would have been more difficult if he didnt already have great relationships off the ice with both Ryan and Brassard. He showed up early to training camp and lived with Ryan for a time before moving into Brassards house once the season started. There arent any nerves when you know how good they are, Dzingel said. I just had to play my game.Anderson entered play with a 3.66 goals-against average and an .866 save percentage but was flawless as Ottawa (4-2-0) opened a three-game road trip through western Canada with a solid defensive effort that was capped by Jean-Gabriel Pageaus empty-net goal.I felt as the game went on I was progressively getting better, said Anderson, who picked up his first shutout of the season and the 34th of his career. The way we played defensively allowed me to only have to make one or two big saves and when thats the case, usually you can have a pretty good game.Ryan Miller made 25 stops for Vancouver (4-2-1), which has lost three straight and lost at home for the first time. They were hard on the puck, Miller said. We started to make some adjustments. You have to be ready for that kind of stuff. After opening the scoring in the first period, Dzingel doubled Ottawas lead at 2:12 of the third, taking a slick no-look feed from Ryan in front and beating Miller.Since Day 1 at every practice and every game hes shown that he wants to be here, that hes ready to survive in the NHL before contributing offensively, first-year Senators head coach Guy Boucher said. He came here with the right attitude of: `Im staying here, Ill block shots, Ill kill penalties, Ill backcheck, Ill do whatever I need to do to be on this team and pay the price. Hes getting all the rewards.Ottawa had surrendered nine goals in third periods coming into Tuesday, and Anderson had to be sharp on a shot off the stick of Bo Horvat from the slot with about 12 minutes left in regulation.Anderson then stopped Sven Baertschi on a breakaway -- one of just three Vancouver shots in the third -- with six minutes to go to preserve the shutout before Pageau scored his first with Miller on the bench for an extra skater.I think our players are absolutely buying in, said Boucher, who is still in the process of implementing his system. I love the willingness to pay attention to small details and how to be unselfish.Ottawa carried the play for much of the first period and led 1-0 on Dzingels third of the season at 7:38 after the Senators jumped on a Canucks turnover in the neutral zone. Miller stopped Brassards initial shot on a 2-on-2 rush with Vancouvers forwards in the middle of a change, but Dzingel was right there for the rebound.Game notes Troy Stecher made his NHL debut for Vancouver after being called up from the AHL on Monday. The 22-year-old signed with the organization as a undrafted college free agent in the offseason, and took the place of Christopher Tanev (lower-body injury) alongside Alexander Edler on Vancouvers top defense pairing. ... Ottawa snapped a seven-game losing streak at Rogers Arena dating to 2004. ... Also missing for Vancouver were Fs Alexandre Burrows (neck) and Derek Dorsett (shoulder). Jayson Megna was recalled from the AHL and suited up for his first game with the club on the fourth line.UP NEXT:Senators: Visit Calgary on Friday.Canucks: host Edmonton on Friday and Washington on Saturday, but after that play just seven of their next 21 at home. Brent Burns Jersey . At a news conference Tuesday where it was thought that the fiery Schallibaum may be shown the door after a dismal finish to the Major League Soccer season, team president Joey Saputo said no decision has been made on whether the Swiss Volcano will be back in 2014. Melker Karlsson Jersey . Its 1987 and a Brazilian playmaker, known as Mirandinha, is being paraded around St James Park to the passionate Newcastle fans. . -- Mike Smith never saw his first NHL goal go in. THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Tom Pernice Jr. had four straight birdies and shot an 8-under 64 on Saturday for a share of the PowerShares QQQ Championship lead with fellow former UCLA player Brandt Jobe.Jobe had a 66 to match Pernice at 11-under 133 at Sherwood in the PGA Tour Champions playoff opener.Pernice began the run on the par-5 11th and birdied the par-3 12th, par-5 13th and par-4 14th. The four-time tour winner birdied another par 5 on 16 and closed with two pars. Not as much wind today, so that made a little bit of difference, Pernice said. It stayed pretty warm once we got going, and the ball was carrying well.Jobe had eight birdies and two bogeys.Im kind of managing my game right now, Jobe said. I have played the par 5s well, put the ball in the fairway, hit some good tee shots, which sets up the hole, so thats kind of been the key this week.First-round leader Colin Montgomerie (69) was a stroke back along with Rocco Mediate (65) and Olin Browne (66).Im ecstatic with how I played the last two days, Mediate said. Im actually shocked a little. I havent played in a while, backs been a little messy, but its better. Yeah, I cant wait to go tomorrow and see what happens.Mediate played alongside Pernice and Jay and matched Pernice with birdies on Nos. 11-14.We had a great group, Pernice said. Roccos personality ... when things are going good, the group just kind of continues on, and he keeps everybody kind of loose and entertaining. Jay and I have been close frriends for a long time and have had some battles, and to have him and then Rocco and everybody playing well, it was a lot of fun. Joe Pavelski Jersey. .Fred Couples was tied for 22nd at 4 under after a 72 in in his first tournament in eight months. The 57-year-old Couples was sidelined by a chronic back injury.Tour leader Bernhard Langer withdrew before the start Friday because of a left knee injury.Langer leads the tour with four victories and has wrapped up the season money title with $2,697,459. The 59-year-old German star tops the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs standings and has a big enough advantage over second-place Miguel Angel Jimenez that he will keep the No. 1 spot without playing this week. The top 72 players on the money list earned spots at Sherwood. The playoff field will be cut to 54 for the Dominion Charity Classic next week in Richmond, Virginia, and to 36 for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship the follow week in Scottsdale, Arizona. Each dollar earned in the first two events is worth two points and will be added to the regular-season total. At the Charles Schwab Championship, points will be reset so the top five only have to win to capture the Charles Schwab Cup.Jimenez was 4 under after a 69.John Daly had a 76 to drop into a tie for 53rd at 3 over. MINNEAPOLIS -- The WNBA announced its top 20 players in the leagues first 20 seasons earlier this season, and several of them were on hand for Game 1 of the WNBA Finals at Target Center on Sunday. Colin Wilson Jersey .If anybody knows what it takes to win a WNBA championship, its this group. Here are some of their thoughts on the Minnesota vs. Los Angeles series.Sue Bird: I dont think its as simple as saying, This team is better inside, or This team has a better bench. At the end of the day, that stuff wont matter. Its who comes to play, and even more, who makes plays when things break down. It sounds so cliché, but its who makes the hustle plays, who goes out there and wants it more. The thing about Minnesota: They scout the crap out of you. They try to blow up your plays. If they know the ball is supposed to go from X to Y to Z, they try to take out Y, make you do something different. So if youre L.A., they can do something different ... almost like a pickup game. I think you can have success against Minnesota that way.The flip side is Minnesota is extremely deep. They have an amazing starting five, and when they sub, theres no drop-off. Not every team can say that. L.A. hasnt gone as deep in the bench lately as they were early, and that could add up, especially if its a five-game series.Tamika Catchings: For L.A., you know Nneka [Ogwumike] is going to do her thing. KT [Kristi Toliver] needs to hit shots, Candace [Parker] needs to do what she does. Then everybody else needs to follow in behind. And, of course, Minny (laughs) ... they always come at you. Even if one or two players are down, others will rise to the occasion. Like this year, I kind of felt like Natasha Howard has done a great job for them coming off the bench. Its going to be a tough matchup, but a great series.Cynthia Cooper-Dyke: Sometimes the Sparks have had issues with lulls in their offensive game -- like when a team has gone to a zone. Los Angeles is going to have to be consistent, because Minnesota can score. I love the fact that both teams play great defense. I think each game will be very close, and its going to end up being about possessions.Becky Hammon: The thing with Minnesota is just the experience; theyve been there before, they know each other so well. You need to be playing your best basketball at the right time. I know L.A. was a terror at the beginning of the season, and then they kind of hit a wall. And its really hard to beat a team here in Minnesota. I think Minnesota will win, but it would be really great for the league, too, if L.A. wins. The fact that theyre back in the Finals is huge.Lisa Leslie: This is great for the franchise and what L.A. stands for. I think theyve always had the desire, but its about returning to a culture thats about winning. This is where we belong. Now the chips can fall where they may. To get here is also a major milestone.I think for L.A., its important to not just settle for the outside game, but attack inside. L.A. cant afford to be streaky from the outside. And recognize that Rebekkah Brunson is the X factor inside for Minnesota. Shes one of the last old-school players; her box scores will never tell all that she does out there. She is able to defend and keep other players off the boards. The Lynx are going to do what they do; they have so many weapons. Maya [Moore] will do what she does. Seimone [Augustus] could get hot. Its going to be interesting to see if foul trouble is key, because of how tough the inside play will be.Ticha Penicheiro: The Sparks are trying to bring a championship back to L.A., which hasnt happened in a long time, and Minnesota is trying to create a dynasty. You have two well-coached teams and players who are hungry on both sides; Minnesota has managed to stay hungry despite winning three championships. While L.A. feels like they have something to prove. Candace [Parker] -- shes been chasing this championship for a while.I think its going to be great; I hope it goes to five games. This is what we wanted, this is why the league changed the [playoff] format. They were the best teams during the regular season, and I really hope its going to be competitive and well-played.Tina Thompson: I think defensively, the Sparks are going to have to come to play. Minnesota, no matter who theyre facing, theyre very, very hard to stop. Its like a firestorm that gets bigger and bigger. There are some key players for L.A. that everyone knows. But Alana Beard is kind of an X factor in this series, in the sense that shes so great defensively. She has a history of offensive success, too, but because there are so many offensive weapons on the Sparks, her game as a whole has been hidden a little bit. But when shes on a roll and making shots, that could definitely make a difference. Im going to look for Alana to have a really good series. And if she does, they have a good chance. Gabriel Landeskog Jersey . The 19-year-old Olsen played 34 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL this season. In that time, hes recorded 17 goals and 17 assists with 36 penalty minutes. Jonathan Bernier Jersey . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. . 31, the CFL club announced Monday. The team also has yet to decide on the future of Doug Berry, who began the season as a consultant to the head coach but took over the offensive co-ordinators duties in July. NEW ORLEANS -- While Mark Ingrams lost fumble practically handed the Seattle Seahawks a touchdown, it also gave Saints running back Tim Hightower an opportunity to lead New Orleans running game.It was a pivotal play, indeed, from which New Orleans arguably benefited most.Ingram was benched, Hightower became the first Saint to rush for more than 100 yards this season, and New Orleans pulled out a 25-20 victory over the favored Seahawks on Sunday.Saints coach Sean Payton labeled Hightowers 26-carry, 102-yard performance tough and gutsy. In New Orleans first six games combined, Hightower carried 19 times for 87 yards. As the game against Seattle wore on, Hightower started to break loose for longer gains, including a 28-yard scamper that set up a go-ahead touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks in the fourth-quarter, and a 12-yard gain that set up a crucial 41-yard field goal by Wil Lutz on New Orleans final possession.I definitely thrive on these kinds of situations. I try to pride myself on being a physical runner, Hightower said. This is the kind of game Im built for. Im kind of old school. I like the physicality of the game and thats what this was.The Seahawks (4-2-1), who have one of the top-ranked defenses in the NFL, have allowed more than 100 yards rushing in just three of their seven games this season and have allowed fewer than 65 yards in the other four games. The Saints (3-4) entered the league ranked 28th in rushing with 82.3 yards per game, but finished with 123 against Seattle. That was one story line in the Seahawks-Saints clash. Here are some others:RUFFLED FEATHERS: Several Seahawks defensive players expressed dissatisfaction over the officiating, with cornerback Richard Sherman using the word egregious, and safety Earl Thomas calling several calls horrible. One gripe concerned a pair of third-down defensive holding calls that extended Saints scoring drives in the second half. They didnt let us play today, Thomas said. On third-and-5 slants, we were locking guys out and they called illegal contact. The Seahawks also protested non-calls on what they viewed as pick plays by Saints receivers running overlapping routes.Seattle defensive backs could be seen arguing that such a pick got Brandin Cooks open for his fourth-quarter TD on a 2-yard slant. Its hard to play defense likee that, Sherman said. Carl Soderberg Jersey. Its tough to play in this league with the way games are being officiated. The rules are already skewed to the offense.PENALTY DIFFERENTIAL: There was a substantial discrepancy in the amount of offensive and defensive penalties called against Seattle compared to New Orleans. The Seahawks were penalized 11 times for 76 yards. The Saints were flagged twice for 10 yards. We made it hard on ourselves, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. My team is getting a lot of penalties the last couple of weeks. It is not any one position, necessarily. I just need to do a better job.ENCOURAGING INGRAM: Payton said he felt compelled to sit Ingram after his fumble because it was his second costly turnover in two games. A week earlier, he fumbled inside the Kanas City 10 in a six-point loss. Against Seattle, Cliff Avrils strip sent the ball into the arms of Thomas, who returned it 34 yards for a score .Brees said the Saints still have great confidence in Ingram. Added Hightower: Ive been in his shoes. ... Were going to need him just like today they needed me.BALANCE: Brees is at his best in the Superdome, where he has twice passed for 400-plus yards this season. Against Seattle, his 265 yards passing represented a season low at home by more than 100 yards. He had only one TD pass, but also scored on a 1-yard keeper. The Saints finished with 35 passes and 35 rushes. That was the formula for today, Brees said with a grin. Thats something everybody had a hand in today and we knew the importance of it.STAYING THE COURSE: Russell Wilson passed for 253 yards without a TD and was intercepted once by linebacker Nathan Stupar. But he still nearly led Seattle on a winning drive -- from the Seattle 32 to the Saints 10 -- in the last 1:50 with no timeouts. The game ended when Wilson lofted a pass to the corner of the end zone, where Jermaine Kearse made a leaping grab but came down with one foot out of bounds. The last drive was a testament to our resilience, Wilson said. We have a lot of clutch players who can make a lot of plays. LOS ANGELES -- Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully thanked Los Angeles Dodgers fans for making him feel like an 8-year-old again every time they cheer. Albert Pujols Jersey . The crowd, in turn, saluted Scully with a loud roar and multiple standing ovations on his appreciation night Friday.Holding hands with wife Sandi, he walked slowly from the dugout along a blue carpet dotted with the teams logo to a stage set up in front of home plate for the pre-game ceremony honoring his 67 years in the teams broadcast booth.Smiling, laughing and waving to the crowd, Scully placed his left hand over his heart in a sign of gratitude. As the applause and cheers continued, he shook his head and mouthed OK to let the crowd know it could quiet down. They ignored him.Hi everybody and a very pleasant good evening to you, Scully said, his signature greeting drawing the first of several roars. I thought Id get that out of the way right away. The first 50,000 fans in attendance received a typed letter signed by Scully containing recollections from his 67-year career that began in Brooklyn with the Dodgers and continued when the team moved west for the 1958 season. You were simply always there for me, Scully wrote. I have always felt that I needed you more than you needed me and that holds true to this very day. I have been privileged to share in your passion and love for this great game.In his remarks, Scully thanked the fans for your enthusiasm, your passion for the game. When you roar, when you cheer, when you are thrilled for a brief moment Im 8 years old again, he said. You have allowed me to be young at heart. I owe you everything.Actor Kevin Costner, baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax and Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw were among the speakers paying tribute to the 88-year-old Scully, who is retiring next weekend after Los Angeles concludes its regular season in San Francisco.Obviously he is a Dodger at heart, but he called a lot of really important games and people regard him to be one of those rare treasures that are always going to be a part of baseball, Manfred said before the ceremony.Scully showed his sense of humor when explaining that he is often asked about his future. He turns 89 in November.Im going to try to live, he said, drawing laughs. Im looking for a much smaller house and a much larger medicine cabinet.Noting his five children, 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Scully said, I guarantee you if I dont know what to do they will find something for me to do.Dodgers chairman Mark Walter, former owner Peter OMalley and former managers Tom Lasorda and Joe Torre, now an MLB executive, were among those on hand. OMalleys father, Walter, first owned the team and was instrumental in bringing the Bronx-born Scully west when the Dodgers relocated to the vast Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was a very strange phenomenon to be on the field and hear the broadcast coming out of the stands, Koufax said. The people of Los Angeles, even though they were at the game, didnt enjoy it without hearing Vin tell them about it. He entertained and he educated them. The ceremony began with Bob Costas narrating a video featuring vintage photos from Scullys career and memories from former Dodger Steve Garvey, actor Bryan Cranston, fellow announcers Joe Buck, Dick Enberg and Al Michaels, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, and comedian George Lopez, among others. The Dodgers and Colorado players jammed their dugouts to watch. We just want to say thank you, Kershaw told Scully during his turn at the podium.Costner starred in the 1999 baseball movie For Love of the Game, in which Scully narrated the play-by-play of his characters perfect game. Were all taking deep breaths, Vin, Costner said. Were all struggling with our own emotions as we admit were down to our last three outs with you. Youre our George Bailey and it has been a wonderful life. You cant blame us for trying to hold on to you for as long as we can. And shame on us if you ever have to pay for another meal in public.Manfred announced a $50,000 donation from Major League Baseball to the Jackie Robinson Foundation in Scullys name. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts toted the oversized check on stage. Scully called Robinsons career when he broke the sports color barrier in 1947.After the speeches, both teams lined up on each side of home plate, removed their caps and listened to John Williams conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the national anthem behind the mound.Scully stepped to the microphone and proclaimed, Its time for Dodger baseball. And then he was gone, hurrying upstairs to his fifth-floor booth to spin another nights worth of baseball lore for generations of Angelenos soothed by the sound of his voice. Rod Carew Jersey . Hazard cut in from the left and scored with a swerving right-footed shot for ninth goal of the season, which proved to be enough for the victory despite Chelseas forwards again lacking a cutting edge up front. Garrett Richards Jersey . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. . -- Bryant McKinnie came out of his stance and lowered his shoulder into a practice squad player, causing a crisp thud to reverberate in the Miami Dolphins practice bubble. Sixteen teams from across the globe have entered into the deep belly of esports mecca South Korea. Custom Montreal Canadiens Jerseys . Only one will emerge victorious. From October through December, these teams will slug it out OGNs Overwatch APEX Season 1 for a ?200,000,000 prize pool (roughly $178,000 U.S.) and international glory in this nascent esport. The tournaments first day featured the start of group play with a match each from Group A and Group B. The four groups will play a six-week round robin to determine which eight teams will advance to the bracket stage. In the first match, it was apparent that South Korean teams Flash Lux and Rhinos Gaming Titan are like night and day in their approach to the maps. Where Flash Lux prefers to hit fast and hard with unique hero picks like Mei, RG Titan approaches with slow, steady, and methodical play. RG Titans Yoo Elysium Ji Hwan and Byeoung Munchkin Sang Beum worked in sync for most games, leading to quad kills for Munchkins Reaper and McCree, only made possible by Elysiums suburb Zarya setup with well-timed Graviton Surges.Despite their teamwork, Flash Luxs hero flexible hero pool adapted well, the team always picking the right hero to dismantle RG Titans lineup at every point of the map. Youd either see Mei zoning out key heroes with Blizzard, or a well-executed backline dives with a Reaper or Genji. Flash Lux closed out the series 3-2.The second match of the day featured South Korean teams BK Stars and Team Kongdoo Uncia. Both teams, while equally aggressive, place their priorities differently in their carries. The current meta favors a strong Zarya and Reaper combo, which is potent when executed properly, but BK Star had a different tale to tell with its dominant Tracer play. In every single game played, Tracer was supported by the entire team, even receiving Nano Boosts from Ana demonstrating the players all-for-one mindset. It paid off beautifully for BK with a 3-2 win. There were many questions going into this event about the skill of these newly formed teams, but if these matches were any indication, its going to be a tough, exciting and close tournament for the next few months. The next match takes place on Monday, October 10th at 7 PM KST, and will have the first of the Western squads, the invited team REUNITED, battling it out in Group D against Runaway. The other match will feature Group Cs CONBOX T6 against Mighty Storm. Maurice Richard Jersey . Ales Hemsky Jersey . -- There were a lot of firsts for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. . -- The plastic that was taped across the lockers in Oaklands clubhouse came down and the champagne that was on ice went back into the cooler. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Its been nearly 90 years since Haiti earned a medal at the Olympic Games. Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey . But swimmer Frantz Mike Itelord Dorsainvil is aiming to break that dry spell. The lanky 25-year-old swimmer who only began to swim competitively six years ago is arguably the most unlikely Olympian on Haitis small team. But he doesnt lack for confidence.I will be giving all my effort to make sure I bring back a medal for my homeland, Dorsainvil said after a recent day of training. The swimmer, who has never lived abroad -- unlike many athletes who typically represent the impoverished Caribbean country -- trains in an 18-meter long pool. An Olympic-sized pool is 50 meters.I have to do six laps just to make 100 meters. I go back and forth, back and forth, he laughed during a phone interview from the pool in Carrefour on the outskirts of the capital Port-au-Prince.Swimming barely exists as a sport in Haiti, where there are few pools. Many Haitians, even some who fish for a living, never learn how to swim.Dorsainvil is hoping to change all that.He says hes hopeful that the sport will take off in his Caribbean homeland if he and his teammate, 19-year-old Haitian-American Naomy GrandPierre, are able to win a medal. GrandPierre is a student at the University of Chicago and will be Haitis first Olympic female swimmer.I hope we can help make swimming popular here. Its disappointing that so many Haitian people are not able to swim, Dorsainvil said. Vincent Taylor Jersey . The Barrie Colts defenceman, who impressed many with his play for Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship, is the top-ranked skater in the February rankings. He has 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 45 games with the Colts this season. Bobby McCain Jersey . They reached the 100-point plateau for the fourth time in five games, bested the visiting Trail Blazers by 34 in the paint and scored 19 of the final 25 points in regulation. . -- Ryan Blaney provided more evidence that Penske Racings No. GLASGOW -- Andy Murrays class and willpower overrode the pain and the fatigue in his legs as he defeated Guido Pella 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to level Great Britains Davis Cup semifinal with Argentina at two points apiece. So the tie, which had looked to be Argentinas when they won both singles matches on Friday, will be decided in a fifth rubber between Dan Evans and Leonardo Mayer, setting up the possibility of what would be the greatest comeback in the history of British tennis.Victory in the fifth rubber would put Britain -- who last year defeated Belgium in Ghent to win the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 -- into a home final against Croatia in November. Its great to level the tie. Ive got a lot of pain in my leg. Ive played a lot of tennis over the last few months and I need a break, a rest, Murray said in a post-match interview on court.Playing in front of the most excitable tennis crowd in Britain, who again repeatedly let out what captain Leon Smith calls the Glasgow roar, Murray wasnt going to let tiredness drag him, and his team, down. This tie came at the end of a long spring and summer in which he played in a first French Open final, scored a second Wimbledon title and retained his status as Olympic champion. This weekend had also been busy -- Muurray had already played eight hours of tennis, with a five-hour singles rubber against Juan Martin del Potro on Friday and then a three-hour doubles match on Saturday alongside his brother Jamie. Cheap Throwback Dolphins Jerseys. This was the first meeting between Murray and Pella, and the left-handed South American, ranked No. 49 in the world, wont want to play the Scot again anytime soon. The only let-up for Pella came in the third set when Murray left the court for a medical timeout. But Murray came running back onto the court and within minutes had completed his straight-sets victory, which had taken just over two hours.Scroll through more than a century of British results in the Davis Cup -- they were one of the co-founders in 1900, and they have played every year since, except during the two World Wars -- and you will only find two previous occasions when they came from 0-2 down to win a tie.One of those was against Germany in 1930, so it had only happened once in the past 86 years, which was at a Euro-African Zone tie against Russia in Coventry in 2013. Clearly, a comeback here, with a place in the final on the line, would be a bigger deal. New Aston Villa director David Bernstein says the club must be cautious of thinking too short-term if they are relegated. Brandon Davidson Jersey . Villa are almost certain to drop into the second-tier of English football for the first time since 1988. They are bottom of the Premier League and 12 points adrift of safety with seven games to go.Bernstein was appointed to the board along with Mervyn King and Brian Little by owner Randy Lerner earlier this month, and was charged with conducting a full review of the clubs failings and implementing a plan to restore progress. The former FA and Manchester City chairman says Villa realise the financial urgency of returning to the Premier League immediately, should they fall, but they are wary of other clubs who have failed to achieve that aim.Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News HQ, he said: If we are thinking short-term or long-term, then it has to be a little bit of both.If we do go down then clearly there is a big incentive to get back quickly, for obvious reasons, including the parachute payment in years one and two reducing, and not in year three. Widespread reports have suggested Remi Garde (right) is set to be sacked There is a big financial incentive but, on top of everything else, if the fans heard anything else other than, We are desperate to get back at the first opportunity then they would be very disappointed. We have to mix sensible short-term thinking and long-term planning. We cant be too short-termist, but on the other hand we cant be thinking five years ahead because a lot will happen in the next year or two.Villa have recently sacked chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt, and there are widespread reports that head coach Remi Garde could imminently follow. Villa are 12 points adrift of Premier LEague safety Meanwhile, the club want to hire someone who would best be described as director of operations, according to Bernstein, who will be responsible for the running of this side.He said: He will need to be very strong operationally, can look at things and make changes where necessary, but also someone who has football knowledge.I dont want someone just for business, who has no football background, but it wont be a director of football. It will be an operational guy with football knowledge, which frankly the club has lacked at the top level. Also See: Villa video Villa fixtures Villa stats Get a £10 free bet! Victor Mete Jersey . BOSTON -- The struggling Los Angeles Angels just cant catch any breaks.Trailing by a run in the top of the ninth with a runner on first, the Angels got a clutch hit from Daniel Nava down the right-field line. Mike Trout was easily going to score the tying run, but the ball took the most unfortunate of bounces, over the wall and out of play -- forcing Trout to stop at third. The Angels challenged, saying a fan interfered while the ball was still in play, but after a brief video review the call on the field stood. Trout remained at third and the Boston Red Sox held on for a 5-4 win Friday night.I dont know what theyre looking at in New York, but that ball is absolutely in the field of play when that fan touches it, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. Absolutely. Its a joke. The Angels battled back from a 5-0 deficit and had a pair of great chances to tie it following a rain delay of 1 hour, 35 minutes.Los Angeles was still frustrated about the ninth after looking at video in the clubhouse. On the replays we all looked at, it looked like it was still in play, Trout said. Its a tough one.C.J. Cron hit a grand slam for the Angels, who lost their fourth straight and 10th in 11.David Ortiz hit his 2,000th career hit with Boston on a solo homer in the fifth. It was his 522nd career home run, moving into sole possession of 19th place on baseballs all-time list and breaking a tie he held with a trio of Hall of Famers including Red Sox great Ted Williams.Mookie Betts and Ortiz had three hits apiece for Boston.Craig Kimbrel finished up for his 17th save. Knuckleballer Steven Wright (9-5) got the win despite struggling with his control when the rain got heavy in the sixth.Jhoulys Chacin (2-5) allowed five runs on 12 hits in just 4 2/3 innings. The Angels had the potential tying run on third in the eighth when Johnny Giavotella tripled to left-center with one out. The Angels tried getting him home with a safety squeeze that reliever Koji Uehara foiled with a great defensive play.. Jeff Petry Jersey. Uehara scooped up Carlos Perezs bunt and flipped the ball with his glove to Christian Vazquez in time to tag Giavotella at the plate.Ortiz hadnt homered since tying Williams, Willie McCovey and Frank Thomas on June 17 against Seattle. Ortiz broke the tie with a line drive to right to put Boston up 3-0 in the fifth.Jackie Bradley Jr. followed with a single and scored on a double by Holt, who scored on a single by Vazquez to put Boston up 5-0.The rain started after Ortizs homer and was falling steadily by the top of the sixth, when Wrights shutout bid unraveled quickly. The knuckleballer struggled in the weather and the Angels loaded the bases with nobody out for Cron, who drove a 3-2 pitch over the Green Monster. That was all for Wright, who allowed four runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out three.GS FOR C.J.Cron drove a 3-2 pitch from Wright out to left for his seventh home run of the season. It was also the first career grand slam for the young first baseman, who took a big chunk out of the 5-0 lead Boston had built.Just looking for a pitch in the zone and I think I got it, Cron said. Its cool. Any first in this league is awesome.TRAINERS ROOMAngels: LHP Andrew Heaney (torn ulnar collateral ligament) underwent Tommy John surgery in Los Angeles, likely sidelining him until the 2018 season.Red Sox: Holt was activated and start in left field, his first game since going on the concussion DL as of May 19. Holt had one of the defensive plays of the night in the fourth when he threw out Cron at second as he tried to stretch a line drive into a double.UP NEXTAngels: LHP Hector Santiago (4-4, 5.27) returns after getting tagged for six runs on seven hits and walks in a no-decision Sunday against Oakland.Red Sox: RHP Clay Buchholz (3-8, 5.90) is 0-2 in his return to the rotation after spending a few weeks in the bullpen. There have been many memorable comebacks in cricket. Cheap Ohio State Jerseys Authentic . Headingley 1981, for example. Or Koltata 2001. Or the remarkable tale of Middlesexs Harry Lee, who, at the Battle of Fromelles in 1915, was captured by the Germans after spending three days bleeding and broken in no-mans land. He defied the doctors, and even a memorial service held by his nearest and dearest, and went on to play one Test during an injury crisis on the South Africa tour of 1930-31.By comparison, Englands comeback on day one in Dhaka seems pretty tame. But, after a wretched first three hours when it appeared they might be facing a vast first-innings score, they could feel pretty satisfied in restricting Bangladesh to a first-innings total of 220. Certainly when they were 171 for 1 and Englands bowlers were struggling to hit the cut strip, it seemed as if things would be much, much worse. To take the final nine wickets for the addition of just 49 runs did, at least, show some character. But impressive though the comeback was, encouraging though the bowling of Ben Stokes, in particular, continues to be, this was a performance that will not have left them quaking in India. If England bowl like this in India, they will be thrashed. They will not be able to afford a session as bad as the first one here and they will not be let back into the game as easily as Bangladesh allowed them back here. The India batting is too strong, too ruthless and too motivated to allow England to get away with such loose cricket. For England got away with it here. From the moment Imrul Kayes thrashed a Chris Woakes long-hop to point in the days third over, England benefited from loose Bangladesh batting. While Tamim Iqbal batted beautifully, the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Shuvagata Hom will reflect on their dismissals - wafting outside off stump - with little joy. Bangladesh may still have provided the defining innings of this game, but they will know they have risked letting England back into this game when they should have closed them out completely. There was some progress discernable for England. Moeen Ali, in particular, demonstrated that he had learned from his experience at Chittagong to claim the second five-wicket haul of his Test career. His Test bowling average dipped below 40 as a consequence. We already knew that, on such surfaces, he presented a terrific challenge to left-handed batsman. But none of his five victims in Chittagong was a right-hander and, given the India top-order is packed with them, that was a concern. Here, by bowling round the wicket, he maximised the benefit of any natural variation. He aimed at leg stump, brought the leg slip and short leg into play if the ball turned and the keeper and slip into play if it did not. And, most of all, he knew that, if the batsmen missed, he was in with a good chance of gaining an lbw decision.Moeen modestly admitted afterwards that he had not bowled an intentional arm-ball but, reasoning that if he didnt know which ones were going to spin and which ones were going to drift away, the batsmen had even less chance. In all, he claimed the wicket of three right-handers, though the wickets of the left-handers Tamim and Mominul Haque with deliveries that skidded on were perhaps the most satisfying. It was just natural variation, he said. I dont feel I bowled great. I just tried to bowl tight, which I dont really do normally. I said to Cooky If Im not bowling maidens, just take me off. Its something I need to do better.I did all right. I dont really have much success as a spinner, but I think the pace I bowl helps and Im trying to be more consistent. Im nowhere near where I want to be as a spinner, but Im trying to be accurate and the 30 games Ive played have helped me a bit.Moeen also admitted that Stokes had been Englands main man. And it is true that Stokes had, once again, defied the slow surface to hurry batsmen with his strength and pace and defeat them with his control of reverse swing. To have hit Mushfiqur Rahim with a bouncer on such a surface was remarkable. Both Moeen and Tamim described him as brilliant and he now has a Test bowling average of 16.33 since January 10. He is no batsman who bowls; he is the real thing as an allrounder. India will have taken note, but perhaps also taken note of Englands over-reliance upon him.Perhaps they will not be so reliant in India. The last time England looked as hapless in the field as they did in the first session here was the Edgbaston Test of 2012 when Stuart Broad and James Anderson were rested. It might be optimistic to expect Anderson to play much of a part in India, but Broads absence was felt keenly here. There is no way he would have bowled with so little control.Moeen also revealed that the coach, Trevor Bayliss, urged the team to refocus when they came in at lunch. He just said that were going to have sessions like this in the winter and were going to have to get better at recognising it and understanding how to change it, Moeen said. He wasnt really angry. He was just a bit disappointed but he never shows when hes angry. He just made us focus a bit more on what we needed to do.And what they needed to do was bowl maidens. Or at least apply some control. Not until the 27th over bowled by spin, did any of Englands trio manage a maiden. It is no coincidence that, with both Stokes (who conceded only 13 from 11 admirably controlled overs) and Moeen bowling with impressive control, the wickets started to fall. It wont be so easy in India, but it did at least show the direction of travel they must take.None of that disguises the faults. It doesnt disguise the struggles of Zafar Ansari, who might be excused on the grounds of nerves, or Adil Rashid. And, most of all, it doesnt disguise the continuing struggles of the top order. So far this series, Englands third wicket has fallen on a score of 21, 28 and 42. They might get away with that in Bangladesh; they are most unlikely to do so in India. But, for now, it did just about keep them in this game. Eddie George College Jersey . Any real chance at payback wont come until the playoff. Still, Pittsburgh knows its taut 3-2 win over the Bruins on Wednesday night is a pretty good place to start laying the groundwork. "They are a very good defensive team," Penguins forward Brandon Sutter said. ASHBURN, Va. -- Its not a war of words Washington Redskins corner Josh Norman wants to get into with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Its a jersey swap. Not that itll happen. Two years ago, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin began prohibiting the teams players from engaging in them. But the overall point from Norman was simple. He has a healthy respect for two of the players hell face Monday night: quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown.Oh my gosh, Big Ben, another great one, Norman said. You look at the quarterbacks in this league, and Big Ben has been up there since hes been in the league. Hes one of the great ones. Ill walk up to him and be like, Hey, can I get your jersey?Thats how much respect Ive got for him. I dont ask for jerseys like that, until someone shows me they are great at what they do. Big Ben is that. Thats the utmost respect I have for a quarterback.Norman has been a focal point ever since he signed with Washington in the spring, following Carolinas decision to rescind the franchise tag it had placed on him. Part of it stems from his contract, worth $15 million a year, the highest for a corner. He has been in headlines for his matchup with?Odell Beckham Jr., based on what happened last year and because they play twice this season.Arizona corner Patrick Peterson poked fun at him on Twitter about a video from a Redskins practice that ended up on social media. But when it came to Roethlisberger and Brown, there was nothing but love from Norman. In fact, Norman can be a quiet player on the field, teammates say. Even Norman said he wouldnt trash talk with Brown, because he likes him.Watching him and what hes able to do is freakish, Norman said. When you look at the receivers inn the NFL you dont have to stop nowhere other than Antonio Brown. J.K. Dobbins College Jersey. It starts and ends with him. Thats going to be a tall task to take on, and I respect that. Im looking forward to what he brings, because that matchup is going to be a physical one and a fun one. I have nothing but respect for that guy.Monday will mark the first time Norman covers Brown in a game -- they didnt match up in a 2013 meeting -- but that respect extends as well to Roethlisberger, whom Norman called cerebral. He can make all the throws, Norman said. Shoot, his name speaks for itself: Big Ben. You cant take him down. Hes good with his feet. Thats the thing people dont realize and understand, that he can create things on the go, and he gets back there and he doesnt get flustered.Earlier in the day, Roethlisberger said he didnt want to get lulled into any sort of verbal exchange. If youre trying to do that, thats when the game kind of falls apart, and the defender gets you, he said in a conference call with the Washington media. Thats what they want. Ive been playing long enough not to fall into that trap, whether its a corner, whether its a linebacker or a trash-talker.But, Norman said, thats not what hes looking for Monday night, his first regular-season game in a Redskins uniform. For him, its not about reminding everyone what he can still do on the field.I dont have to do that, because Ive been doing that since day one, Norman said. Its just them. Its not trying to prove them wrong. Its trying to prove Im right in what I do and my approach. I dont care about the other white noise. On the biggest tennis stage in the world, Angelique Kerber will go for her first US Open title on Saturday. Nick Vannett Jersey . Win or lose, the 28-year-old will be the new No. 1 player in the world on Monday.A world away at her parents house in Belarus, the woman who beat Kerber at the 2015 US Open will be watching. The 27-year-old Victoria Azarenka is a former No. 1 and a two-time US Open runner-up. She had won three titles this season and was 2-1 against Kerber. That was before she found out she was pregnant. It was interesting. Its tough to describe that, Azarenka said of learning that she and her boyfriend would be parents by the end of the year. I dont think you can ever prepare yourself for that. It was just great for me to have such a positive response from my friends and my family. That just made me very comfortable because obviously you feel scared no matter what. ...But at first, its not just me as a person, its me as a tennis player, as a businesswoman, so these [factors] were taken into consideration.Since stepping away from the Tour in July, Azarenka has made a routine out of not having a daily routine.Because one day she can feel drastically different than the next, she is changing up her workouts and only playing tennis occasionally. She was playing three times a week with a friend, but she toned that down at her doctors urging. I cant leave that competitiveness feeling out of me, she said. The last time we played it got a little too intense, so my doctor told me to relax. They said I need to slow down. Its just who I am to be like that, but I just need to do a better job at that now.The two-time Australian Open champion, who was ranked No. 6 when she stepped away, will begin taking classes at UCLA in a few weeks, working toward a degree in business. Calling it something she has wanted to do for some time, Azarenka has five years to complete the flexible program geared to those who are already in the working world. She even toyed with the idea of going to Flushing Meadows to watch the US Open in person, but decided to spend some time in Belarus with her American boyfriend instead. Were just doing a lot of regular daily activities, she said. Im still working out, but most of the time, its just quality time with my family and working on some ideas off-court and getting into some other things that I dont normally have time to.Despite the seven-hour time difference between Belarus and New York, Azarenka still has watched much of the US Open -- and shared her observations on Twitter.Calling it an educational experience, Azarenka is relishing in the rare opportunity to be a spectator. Knowing she will one day be back competing, and that she isnt missing out on an opportunity she wont have again, has allowed her to enjoy watching as a fan.Im obviously not as attached as I normally would be before, but I actually feel a lot more engaged, said Azarenka, who fell in love with Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2005 when she won the juniors title as a 16-year-old. When you just play for yourself, you mostly focus on yourself, and you really dont get to watch many other matches. I never even look at the draw. This is probably the first time Ive looked at the draw, both mens and womens, and tried to follow my friends and see whats happening.Ive also been listening to a lot of commentary and some shows. When you play, you really just want to block out all that noise. Its been interesting to see this different dynamic.Interesting, maybe, but one that she hopes doesnt last long. Azarenka plans to resume competitive training as soon as possible after the birth of her child and return to the Tour sometime next year.I hope Ill have enough time to be ready and feel good about playing in New York next year, she said.Returning after pregnancy certainly wont be easy, but its not unprecedented, either. Kim Clijsters came back to the sport in 2008, one year after the birth of her daughter. She went on to win two more US Open titles and one at the Australian Open. Azarenka hasnt had a chance to speak to the retired Belgian star, but hopes to in the near future.Among the tips Clijsters could potentially share is the answer to a relatively simple, yet crucial, question: Where are the daycare facilities at the tournaments located? Azarenka doesnt know now, but she knows shes going to have to find them and get used to the reality of being a working mom traveling all over the globe.Shes certain there will be help along the way.Serena texted me to say she cant wait to meet my baby, so maybe shell want to babysit once in a while, she said with a laugh. While it is impossible to pinpoint exactly when she will return, she does know one thing. She will definitely be back and with just as much as fire and dedication as ever before. The beauty of tennis is, theres always next year. And, for that matter, theres always next week. I dont want to rush anything, but I want to absolutely make sure that when I do come back, Im as determined as I was before. Shaquill Griffin Jersey . The No. 1-ranked Nadal tweaked his back warming up for the Australian Open final, which he lost almost four weeks ago in a major upset against Stanislas Wawrinka. His first stop after the layoff is the clay in Rio as he tests the back and tries to stay healthy for the French Open in three months. Justin Britt Jersey . It was the second consecutive win for the Pacers (2-5), who lost their first five preseason games. Jeff Teague led the Hawks (1-5) with 17 points and eight assists and Al Horford had 12 points and seven rebounds. Mike Scott scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half. . Just not the game. Kyle Palmieri scored two straight goals in the third period to rally the Anaheim Ducks past the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Tuesday night. PHILADELPHIA -- Austin Williams and Sammy Mojica combined for 32 points as Drexel defeated Division III Kean College 84-44 on Sunday night.Williams was a near-perfect 8 of 9 from the field for a career-high 16 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds for the first double-double of his career. Mojica came one shy of his career scoring mark with 16 points and added five assists. Freshman Kari Jonnson scored 11 points with three 3-pointers and fellow frosh Kurk Lee dished a career-bestt 10 assists to go with eight points. Rasheem Green Jersey. Mike Summerer scored 11 points and Micah Kerr 10 for the Cougars (0-10), who shot 32 percent from the field (19 of 59) and had just 11 assists.Eleven of 12 players scored for Drexel (5-6), which also owned a 54-27 advantage on rebounds, and shot 44 percent from the floor (32-72) with 12 3-pointers. Batiste, who briefly signed with the Eskimos in 2006, has spent time with several NFL teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins. . Carey Price didnt, but he still came out on top against one of his rivals for the No. 1 job at the Sochi Games. The Anahim Lake, B.C., native was stellar in making 39 saves in his home province and Lars Eller got credit for a bizarre short-handed winner as the Canadiens defeated the Canucks 4-1. The College Football Playoff selection committee has yet to truly sweat it out in the fourth quarter. There was little dispute last season, and Clemson and Alabama proved to be the top two teams in the country. In 2014, Ohio State made the committees decision easier with a 59-0 rout of Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game, then proved the committee right -- at least outside the state of Texas -- by going on to win the national title after sneaking into the top four for the very first time when it mattered most, in the final ranking. This year could be significantly more difficult. With Houston off to a 3-0 start and favored by ESPNs Football Power Index to win every remaining game (except against Louisville), its possible the committee will have to seriously consider a Group of 5 conference champion in its top four -- especially if there is a Power 5 conference champion with two losses. How the Cougars would fare against a Power 5 schedule is a debate that has carried over from the BCS system, which no Group of 5 program was ever able to crack.Where would a Houston, [which] on any given day could beat anybody in the country, if they played in the SEC West, how would they do after playing Texas A&M, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State on consecutive weeks? Mississippi States Dan Mullen said before the season. The dynamic of the committee, which will be charged with answering that question, has changed. Four members terms have expired and three new members have joined, increasing the total number of former coaches to five, the highest it has been. Two of the coaches, former Central Michigan coach Herb Deromedi and former Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower, hail from the Group of 5 perspective. Three of them, Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, former Notre Dame, Stanford and Washington coach Tyrone Willingham and former Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson, made their living against Power 5 opponents. How much their experiences shape their opinions could be a factor in this years debate.Because the meetings are closed, though, and because committee members arent allowed to talk to the media -- with the exception of chair Kirby Hocutt -- the chemistry and conversations within the room are a well-kept secret. There were times when -- it happened fairly often -- where wed be talking about a particular issue or a team or something like that, and we would turn to Ty and Barry and Coach [Tom] Osborne and say, All right, from a coaches perspective, what do you think? former committee member Mike Gould said. And they would tell you honestly, Heres what Im thinking. But again, that didnt necessarily carry the day. The non-coaches in the room would take notes, say, OK, thank you, and you still formulated your own ideas on how you were going to vote.Deromedi, Bower and Alvarez are each recused from voting for their respective affiliations. Willingham is recused from Stanford and Duke. Johnson is not on the recusal list.Coaches are only one of five categories of individuals who comprise the committee, along with sitting athletic directors, administrators, journalists and athletes.I think what theyre doing right now -- having variety, having diversity -- is working, West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said. I would support them continuing doing what theyre doing. I think you make your own bed every day. People are going to know the caliber of who youre playing, who youre beating and who youre not beating and theyre going to take all of that into consideration. Having some coaches in there is obviously good, but some of those coaches can be biased towards one conference or one region. You have to be careful about that. There is a coat rack outside of the committee meeting room where the committee members literally check their hats at the door, a symbol started by committee member and former chairman Jeff Long to help remind them to leave any bias outside. Each committee member has a white hat with his or her name on it, and they hang them up every week. Casey Hayward Jersey. Not everyone on the outside is as skeptical.I think every one of those guys has tremendous integrity, very professional, great honesty in what they do, Alabama coach Nick Saban said. I have total faith, trust and confidence. You can try to do whats right, that doesnt mean youre going to be right all the time, but I know they will try to do it right. I think they got it right last year. I think they got it right the year before.Arguably nobody on the committee knows the sport better than the Hall of Fame coaches who were paid to master it, but those who have been in the room say their voices dont necessarily carry more weight than the others.Sometimes there would be a situation that would come up, and somebody would say, Well, lets hear what the coaches say about this, said Osborne, a former committee member. It usually had to do with defensive personnel, pass rush. It wasnt like we, we didnt really dominate the conversation at all. Everybody had their opinion, everybody expressed them, everybody had a vote. No vote counted more than somebody elses vote.Former committee member Mike Tranghese said the coaches have an edge when it comes to evaluating the teams, but when it comes to evaluating the results, each of the committee members are on equal footing. Results are the results, nothing changes that, he said. Schedules are the schedules. The games are the games, nobody can change all that. But as part of it all, you want to know about a team. How talented are they? Are they overachieving? Are they underachieving? Why would Team A have trouble with Team B? Coach Osborne was unbelievable at analyzing special teams. He was unbelievable. He has such a handle on everybodys special teams. Its such a big element of the football game, and that would get thrown into the mix as you try to analyze things. In the end, I think everybody is pretty individual. You take the coaches analysis and you factor it in, he said, but in the end, its the results that determine whos getting in and whos not getting in.Would Houstons results be good enough? What if their only loss was to Louisville, which went on to win the ACC title? The rest of the Cougars résumé would feature just one win against a ranked opponent -- Oklahoma -- and thats assuming the Sooners can regroup and be a factor in the Big 12 race. The most likely scenario remains that Houston would have to be undefeated.Kansas coach David Beaty, who spent three seasons at Texas A&M, has also coached in Conference USA and said there is a difference in the level of competition the committee cant ignore. We were in the SEC West and we were pretty good when we were there and we never finished higher than third, which is crazy, he said. Thats how good and talented that SEC West is. I think you have to take into account the level of teams that are in those conferences. I just dont think you can leave that out. Theres no doubt in my mind you have to take those things into account.Tom Herman is one of my best friends in the world, Beaty said. He actually led Ohio State to the national championship on a third-string quarterback who was pretty stinkin good, by the way. But he had a lot to do with that. And hes done an unbelievable job at Houston and Im happy for him and his family, but the reality of it is, an undefeated Houston team wouldve had a hard time getting in there [in 2015]. Theres a reason why. Because the conference affiliation there might have been a situation that maybe something else wouldve overtook them as a result, because they werent in the SEC or Big 12.Houston has a chance to help change that perception this year. The Cougars have to do more than go undefeated, though. They have to win over the entire committee -- not just the former coaches.
