NFL team sites are continuing to do Theme Weeks after starting the trend during the 2017 season. This week’s theme is: “What if?”The San Diego/Los Angeles football franchise is one of twelve other NFL franchises to never win a Super Bowl. The team has played twenty-four seasons since the last time they reached the super bowl , a blowout loss at the hands of the 49ers in 1994, and have reached a total of four AFC Championships in team history. While the Chargers have been closer to winning super bowls than what they achieved in the 2006 season, most fans of the team will tell you that 2006 team had the best chance of them all.The 2006 San Diego Chargers were a juggernaut in every sense of the word, rostering a league-best eleven Pro Bowl players, an NFL record thirty-one touchdown season by hall of fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson, and an accomplished former coach of the year in Marty Schottenheimer. A ten-game winning streak to finish the season placed the Chargers firmly as the number one seed in the AFC at 14-2. The 2006 AFC Divisional round matchup between the San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots was a competitive back and forth affair that found the Chargers up eight points with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Attempting to convert on fourth down, Tom Brady’s pass was intercepted by safety Marlon McCree. While returning the interception, Marlon was stripped by Patriots receiver Troy Brown resulting in a fumble recovery by the Patriots. The Chargers challenged the call and failed Denzel Perryman Jersey , resulting in an additional loss of timeout. The controversial play could have been wholly avoided had Marlon fell to the ground on his own, securing possession as well as a likely Chargers win. The Patriots would eventually march down the field and score a touchdown and two-point conversion, tying the game. After another Patriots field goal with a little over one minute left, the timeout-less Chargers would attempt a 54-yard field goal as time expired that ultimately fell short, resulting in a loss.A roster as talented as the 2006 Chargers does not come along very often, leaving fans in a state of disbelief and constantly asking themselves the same question:“What if Marlon McCree Never Fumbles?”Assuming the Chargers offense drives down the field after the interception, adding additional points to the team’s total and putting the game out of reach, the Chargers would play at home (where they were previously undefeated) against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. While it is tough to assume the Chargers would top the Colts in the AFC Championship game Authentic Melvin Gordon Jersey , the team did top a similar Colts team in the 2007 AFC Divisional round and were by far a more talented team. After beating the Colts, the Chargers would play the Rex Grossman-led Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Again, it is tough to assume the Chargers beat the Chicago Bears, but I didn’t write this article just to have them lose in heartbreaking fashion again. After demolishing the Chicago Bears, the Chargers bring the Lombardi trophy home to the city of San Diego for the first time in team history. Even though team GM A.J. Smith and coach Marty Schottenheimer didn’t have the best relationship, the massive success forces A.J. to retain Marty for another season rather than replace him with Norv Turner. The 2007 Chargers reap the benefits on their way to another 14-2 season, although still falling short in the postseason after injuries to both Philip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson. Marty Schottenheimer continues to coach the Chargers until he retires in 2011 and LaDainian Tomlinson never leaves, retiring a Charger. The success of winning a Super Bowl in the city of San Diego allows for massive renovations to Qualcomm Stadium Youth Mike Williams Jersey , never forcing the team to relocate to Los Angeles. Philip Rivers retires in 2016 after battling injuries, knowing he’s destined for the Hall of Fame, and the San Diego Chargers select Clemson Football star Deshaun Watson in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. The Chargers are never infamous for losing in heartbreaking fashion and are widely known as one of the league’s most successful franchises. What do you think? Is that how it would have played out?ESPN’s Louis Riddick: “The way he moves remind me of Sean Taylor.” On Tuesday, ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick spent some time on the Stephen A. Smith show talking about the Chargers, their defense, and S Derwin James . Riddick confessed that he likes the Chargers in the (AFC) West this year, making a point to say he now sees playmakers at all three levels of the Chargers’ defense and now considers himself “on the Chargers’ bandwagon, too.”Riddick then went on to give some eye-popping thoughts about what he sees in the Chargers’ most recent first-round pick.“This kid , when he plays, it gives me chills because the way he moves reminds me of Sean Taylor. Just the way he glides and eats up ground. It’s weird to me. I get flashbacks when I watch him play.”That is some astronomical praise to be had for a rookie who hasn’t even taken a regular season snap yet in the NFL, but not many NFL analysts are as experienced and knowledgeable about the game the way Riddick is. He is someone who has experience at almost every level of the game and when he talks, people listen.Take this praise for what it’s worth, but if you are like me, you can’t help but get a bit more excited to see #33 take the field on September 9th.

Chargers first round pick Derwin James has been activated from the Non-Football Injury list and will practice today. James sustained a hamstring injury between OTA’s and the start of Training Camp but has been cleared to begin practicing and will make his Training Camp debut. Now that James is ready to hit the field the question becomes where does he line up on the field? He was primarily the back-up Safety behind Jahleel Addae in OTA’s but the Free Safety spot has been a turnstile in Training Camp. Rayshawn Jenkins has got the bulk of the snaps with the starters at FS while Desmond King and Jaylen Watkins have been shuffled in and out of that group as well. As of last practice , Addae had his first run at Free Safety adding another body to that group leaving a possible opening for Derwin James at Strong Safety.Derwin James did line up at the Linebacker spot at Florida State but the Linebacker group has become crowded enough that Adrian Phillips, who took on that role last year, hasn’t seen much snaps there to begin camp. With Kyzir White having a hot start to camp and the good play from some of the starters Los Angeles Chargers T-Shirt , it seems there might not be room for James at LB quite yet.Derwin James is back, now let’s see where the Chargers put him on the field. The Los Angeles Rams Look To Claim San Diego NFL Fans The so-called Fight For LA continues to be dominated by the Los Angeles Rams. Not only will they own the stadium the two franchises eventually play in, they have been better on the field of play (they won the NFC West in 2017) and have been the more interesting team in the offseason (they have made some huge player acquisitions). And now the Rams not content to simply own the Los Angeles market are making a move on the Chargers’ old home of San Diego. This is a solid move and could go a good way toward helping cement the Chargers as at best Southern California’s #2 NFL team (more likely #3 with the Raiders still commanding a huge share of the region’s interest). The Chargers Los Angeles Chargers Hats , as we have come to expect, were apparently caught off guard:As a lifelong fan of the Chargers, I’m not surprised Los Angeles Chargers Hoodie , I’m just disappointed.

OTTAWA , Ontario (AP) Disgruntled Ottawa Senators fans want owner Eugene Melnyk to know exactly how they feel. Their message is hard to miss.Four billboards with the message (hash)MelnykOut went up at four spots across the city Monday thanks to a GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $10,000 in less than a month. The fund was started by fan Spencer Callaghan, whose frustration with Melnyk reached a breaking point amid talk that captain Erik Karlsson might be traded. On the GoFundMe page launched Feb. 23, Callaghan wrote: ”Eugene Melnyk has decided that he would rather tear the team down and sell it for spare parts than admit he can no longer run it effectively. Sens fans and the city of Ottawa need to step up to save a pillar of this community.”He said billboards are a way for fans to be heard, and he contends ownership has driven off players and front-office staff. And, he adds Winnipeg Jets T-Shirts Authentic , this is not just about this season, but ”a series of decisions over a long period of time.”The Senators advanced to the Eastern Conference final last season but will miss the playoffs. Karlsson’s future in Ottawa remains unknown, adding to fans’ unease. The billboards are scheduled to be up for two weeks, with a fifth going up April 2. General manager Pierre Dorion, when asked about the billboards, said he’s ”not talking about that.”For all his anguish Winnipeg Jets Hoodies Authentic , Callaghan does not discount the possibility of the Senators eventually turning things. But he has grave doubts.”It requires some collaboration,” he said. ”It requires some humility and it requires some listening and I haven’t seen any desire on the part of the organization to do that.”The Twitter hashtag (hash)MelnykOut was launched in December by a fan after the Senators owner threatened to move the team if he didn’t see better fan support. Melnyk’s comments were made the night before the first outdoor game in Ottawa and set off a firestorm on social media.Players can appreciate the fan frustration, but Senators defenseman and Ottawa native Mark Borowiecki says Melnyk deserves credit for coming to the city’s rescue when the team was on the verge of bankruptcy.”Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion,” said Borowiecki, who wasn’t aware of the billboards or the funding campaign until told about it. ”I will say this, running a sports franchise isn’t quite as easy as some people think it is. There’s a lot to it that I think a lot of us don’t understand and can’t appreciate.”Eugene’s stepped up big for this city. Growing up here Winnipeg Jets Hats Authentic , being a fan, I can remember there was a real danger of losing this team.” Calgary signed forward James Neal to a five-year, $28.75 million contract on Monday, giving Johnny Gaudreau and the rest of the Flames a much-needed scoring boost.Neal has topped 20 goals in each of his 10 NHL seasons, and was considered the top player left on the free-agent market a day after the NHL’s signing period opened. The signing also comes a day after general manager Brad Treliving talked of a need to upgrade his forward positions to take the pressure off of Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk.”One of the things we looked to address this offseason was adding depth and versatility to our forward unit Custom Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ,” Treliving said. ”At the end of the year, I talked a little bit about us as a team relying on too few guys to do too many things.”Calgary becomes Neal’s third team in as many seasons. He was selected by Vegas in the NHL expansion draft a year ago, and scored 25 goals and 44 points in 71 games for the Golden Knights. The 30-year-old Neal also played for Pittsburgh and Nashville, and has 263 goals and 495 points in 703 career games. The Flames also signed forward Derek Ryan to a three-year, $9.375 million contract. Ryan scored 15 goals and 38 points in his second full season with Carolina last year. Calgary also added center Austin Czarnik, who spent the previous two seasons with Boston. The additions come on the heels of the Flames acquiring center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Noah Hanifin in a trade that sent defenseman Dougie Hamilton , winger Micheal Ferland and college prospect Adam Fox to Carolina. The Flames missed the playoffs for the seventh time in nine years, falling out of contention by going 5-13-1 over the final month of the season. It was a stretch during which Calgary scored three or more goals just five times and was shut out four times.—

EDMONTON Custom Toronto Maple Leafs Jerseys , Alberta (AP) 锟斤拷 Alexander Georgiev has his first NHL win under his belt. The 22-year-old backup goalie made 35 saves and forward Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist as the resurgent New York Rangers held off the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Saturday night.Georgiev, who began the season in the AHL after playing last year in Finland, entered 0-2-0 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in his brief NHL career.“It feels unreal, something like a dream. It is an amazing feeling and one I will remember for my whole life,” said Georgiev, the first Bulgarian-born player in the NHL. “The guys came out and wanted to win really bad. We had confidence from the last couple of games and brought it into this game.”Chris Kreider and Paul Carey also scored for the Rangers (30-30-6), who swept a three-game road trip to Western Canada that followed their seven-game losing streak. After trading away several veteran stars, including captain Ryan McDonagh and forward Rick Nash, leading up to Monday’s deadline , the rebuilding Rangers – tied for last place in the Metropolitan Division – are just three points out of a playoff spot in the crowded Eastern Conference race.“We hung on there a little bit, but I really liked the way we played. We had good energy. That first goal gave us even more energy,” coach Alain Vigneault said. “We played a strong first. We had some real good looks in the second. Obviously their top players are top-end players and they’re going to get some looks and we hung on there and our goalie made a couple of big saves.”Georgiev made his third career start in place of No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundqvist, rested on the second night of a back-to-back after two straight 50-save wins. With a 3-1 victory in Calgary on his 36th birthday Friday night, Lundqvist became the first goaltender to stop 50 or more shots in consecutive wins since the NHL began tracking saves in 1955.Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the disappointing Oilers (27-34-4), who have lost three in a row.New York opened the scoring 54 seconds into the game when Zibanejad fed the puck across to a streaking Kreider, who sent it into the open side of the net before goalie Cam Talbot could get across. It was the 13th time this season the Oilers have allowed a goal on their opponent’s first shot of the game.“Unfortunately, that wasn’t the start we wanted,” Nugent-Hopkins said. “The second half of the game Vancouver Canucks T-Shirts Authentic , we played a lot better. I think we kept things simple for the second half of the game and it started to work out for us.“I think we’re just over-complicating it a little bit.”Edmonton tied it six minutes into the second period when an innocent-looking shot from McDavid off a sharp angle squeezed in past Georgiev for his 30th goal of the season. The Rangers regained the lead on the power play a couple of minutes later as Zibanejad batted in a rebound on a scramble in front.New York got another one before the midway mark of the second as Talbot got a piece of Carey’s deflection before it trickled in behind him.The Oilers made it 3-2 with three minutes to play in the second when McDavid turned on the jets before sending a beautiful backhand pass to Nugent-Hopkins for his 17th.NOTES: New York swept the two-game season series, including a 4-2 victory at Madison Square Garden in November. … Nugent-Hopkins returned to the lineup after missing 18 games with a rib injury. … Edmonton defenseman Adam Larsson missed the game to attend his father’s funeral in Sweden.UP NEXTRangers: Return home to face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.Oilers: Continue their five-game homestand Monday against the Arizona Coyotes.— PITTSBURGH (AP) Evgeni Malkin made the proclamation more than two months ago, minutes after the Pittsburgh Penguins put together three borderline spectacular periods against San Jose on Jan. 30 to pick up their ninth win in 12 games.”It’s like we’re back to playoffs for sure,” Malkin said.It was vintage Malkin, who for over a decade has played the blunt dressing room yin to Sidney Crosby’s ever polite yang. While predicting a playoff spot for the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions isn’t exactly risky, Malkin’s promise came as the Penguins were coming out of a three-month funk in which they flip-flopped between brilliant and blah.Reminded of his guarantee on Tuesday – with a 12th straight postseason berth secured – Malkin just smiled. Yeah, maybe he was sending a message to the rest of the guys in the room that day that the malaise needed to go.”Like we talk a lot about this year, like everyone’s `Wait, like what’s going on?”’ Malkin said. ”We lost couple good players but we’re still great.”They just didn’t always play like it during the first half of the season. While doing his best to avoid using the word ”hangover Vancouver Canucks Hoodies Authentic ,” Crosby admitted the Penguins may have suffered from a bit of selective amnesia last fall when they opened the season trying to become the first franchise in 35 years to win three straight titles.”When you play a couple seasons of important games like that, you come back and you might not have that urgency or you only remember May and June when everything is great and your team is firing on all cylinders but you don’t necessarily remember all the little things that happen,” Crosby said. The two-time MVP has been around long enough to understand that each year has its own set of unique challenges. The group that basically ran in place from October through December sort of forgot how to deal with it.”You have to go through that stuff over the course of the year and sometimes it’s not as fresh in your mind as winning is,” he said. ”So I think it took us awhile to go through that.”Things like trying to find a new identity after the departures of Chris Kunitz, Marc-Andre Fleury , Nick Bonino, Trevor Daley and Matt Cullen, all vital pieces of Pittsburgh’s 2016 and 2017 titles. Things like defenseman Justin Schultz and forwards Patric Hornqvist and Bryan Rust all missing significant time with injuries, reminders that – as coach Mike Sullivan likes to put it – the Penguins play a ”belligerent sport.”Sullivan knew adversity was coming when the season started. And while he didn’t panic he kept reminding his players that nothing is inevitable Vancouver Canucks Hats Authentic , not even a playoff berth for a team with the longest active streak in the NHL. There was no fiery speech telling them to get it together because none was required.”There weren’t really any words said,” Rust said. ”Everybody knew. It’s one of those things. You take a look at the standings. You take a look at how we lost a few of those games early in the year and you just, everybody kind of looked in the mirror a little bit and everybody picked up their own game.”Though the Penguins insist there was no one moment in which they snapped to, Hornqvist pointed to a 4-0 road win against the New York Islanders on Jan. 5 as game when the light started to come on.The visit to Brooklyn came just 24 hours after a humbling 4-0 home loss to Carolina. Weather issues forced the team to scramble just to get to the arena. They left with two points and a little bit of swagger.”Since then I think we’ve been playing good hockey and been improving every game and that’s the key to the season,” Hornqvist said.Having Malkin and Crosby doing Malkin and Crosby things certainly helps.Malkin is in the running for his second Hart Trophy as league MVP, his 95 points the most on the team, most of them coming during Pittsburgh’s post-New Year’s Day surge, one in which the Penguins became just the fourth defending champion since 1944 to reach the postseason after being on the outside looking in at the season’s midway point. When Malkin cooled, Crosby put together a five-game goal scoring streak Custom Vancouver Canucks Jerseys , including a remarkable double-tap score against Montreal’s Carey Price and an overtime winner against New Jersey last Thursday in which he smacked his own rebound out of midair and by Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid in overtime.A win over the Canadiens last Saturday night turned Malkin’s January guarantee into a reality. Though a loss to Washington on Sunday allowed the Capitals to wrap up a third consecutive Metropolitan Division title, the Penguins aren’t particularly concerned. All three Cup parades during the Malkin-Crosby era have followed regular seasons in which the Penguins finished second in their division. All that matters to Malkin is that Pittsburgh is in the conversation. Just as the Penguins have always been since he arrived in 2007.”I will always believe my team,” Malkin said. ”I always believe this group. I see these guys every day and we’re still hungry.”—

NEW YORK (AP) Mathew Barzal responded less than 30 seconds after Philadelphia came back from three goals down in the third period to tie the score St. Louis Blues Hats Authentic , and the New York Islanders got a big win over the playoff-chasing Flyers.Barzal had two goals and an assist, scoring the tiebreaking goal with 6 1/2 minutes remaining, to lead the Islanders to a 5-4 win Tuesday night as Philadelphia squandered a chance to move closer to clinching a playoff spot.”It was a great response to a tough situation,” New York coach Doug Weight said. ”It was nice to get that goal right away and we were able to hold it down (after that).”John Tavares also scored twice and Anthony Beauvillier added a goal and two assists to help the Islanders get their third win in eight games, but just the fourth in their past 20 (4-12-4). Thomas Greiss stopped 27 shots.Nolan Patrick had two goals and an assist, Claude Giroux added a goal and an assist, and Wayne Simmonds also scored for Philadelphia. Petr Mrazek finished with 32 saves while falling to 6-6-3 in 15 games since being acquired from Detroit. The Flyers lead Florida by four points for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after New Jersey won to jump one point ahead of Philadelphia for the first wild card. The Flyers and Devils each have two games remaining while the Panthers have three.”Obviously it’s in the back of our minds, but if we want to get that playoff spot we got to do better than that,” Patrick said. While the Flyers have beaten strong playoff-bound teams such as Winnipeg, Washington and Boston in recent weeks, they have lost to struggling teams such as Detroit, Dallas and the Islanders.”Those teams are still good teams, not a lot of easy games anymore in this league,” Giroux said. ”We didn’t earn that win tonight. We got make sure we come out strong next game.”The Islanders appeared to take control with a three-goal second period to take a 4-1 lead, but the Flyers – who were 5-0-3 in their previous eight – tied it with three goals in a nine-minute stretch of the third.Patrick started the Flyers’ rally in the third as he deflected Shayne Gostisbehere’s point shot in at 4:07 to make it 4-2. Giroux’s assist on the play extended his points streak to eight games.Patrick then got Philadelphia to 4-3 as he knocked in a loose puck in front at 8:16 for his 13th and the rookie’s first multi-goal game.Giroux tied it with 6:56 left as he beat Greiss top-shelf on the glove side for his 30th.”We let them back in it and gave them some life,” Tavares said. ”They started feeling a lot better about their game. … They’re playing for a lot and we’re just trying to finish strong so we’re just competing hard.”Barzal then regained the lead for New York just 28 seconds later as he was streaking to the net, got a pass from Beauvillier and beat Mrazek for his 22nd.The Islanders went ahead with three goals while outshooting the Flyers 17-5 in the second.Beauvillier gave New York a 2-1 lead as he skated across the slot and got his 20th at 3:43.”It feels good to get to 20 Custom St. Louis Blues Jerseys , but it’s not the spot we want to be in right now,” said Beauvillier, who scored for the fourth straight game and sixth time in his past seven.Tavares put the Islanders up two with his second of the game with just under nine minutes left in the middle period, knocking the rebound of his initial shot over the falling Mrazek’s glove for his 36th.Barzal made it 4-1 from the right circle with 3:33 left in the period.Tavares got the Islanders on the scoreboard 7:15 into the game, just 10 seconds into a tripping penalty on the Flyers’ Sean Couturier.Simmonds tied it with 53 seconds left in the opening period with his 24th.NOTES: Tavares has six goals and 13 points in his past 15 games. He is two goals away from his career high of 38 set in 2014-15. … Barzal’s assist on Tavares’ goal was his 60th, moving him two away from Sergei Makarov (62 for Calgary in 1989-90) for third by a rookie since the 1983-84 season. Joe Juneau leads that list with 70 for Boston in 1992-93, followed by Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby with 63 in 2005-06. Barzal is also three away from tying Bryan Trottier for the Islanders’ rookie mark set in 1975-76. … Bailey, back after missing two games with an upper body injury, played in his 713th game, moving past Pat Flatley into sole possession for seventh place on the franchise list. … The Islanders won three of four in the season series. … Giroux has four goals and 10 assists during his scoring streak.UP NEXTFlyers: Host Carolina on Thursday night, and the New York Rangers on Saturday to close the regular season.Islanders: Host the Rangers on Thursday night before closing season at Detroit on Saturday night.—Follow Vin Cherwoo at— BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Ryan O’Reilly was unable to hide his dejection as he acknowledged that the Sabres‘ latest last-place finish led him to question his love for hockey. If that wasn’t enough, the high-priced center accused the Sabres of adopting a mindset of ”being OK with losing.””It’s crept into all of our games. Yeah, it’s disappointing. It’s sad,” O’Reilly said Monday, two days after Buffalo closed one of its worst seasons in franchise history. ”I feel throughout the year I’ve lost the love of the game multiple times, and just need to get back to it because it’s eating myself up , and eats the other guys up, too.”Losing is all O’Reilly knows in the three seasons since being acquired in a trade with Colorado, after which the Sabres signed him to a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension.Rather than being part of a rebuilding plan, which included Buffalo selecting Jack Eichel with the No. 2 pick in the 2015 draft, O’Reilly and company find themselves back at square one. They became the NHL’s first team to finish 31st – following this year’s addition of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights – after back-to-back 30th-place finishes in 2013-14 and 2014-’15.This year’s collapse is considerably worse given that Buffalo’s trajectory was supposed to be trending upward under the new regime of general manager Jason Botterill and coach Phil Housley. They took over last spring after the Sabres underachieved in finishing 26th under GM Tim Murray and coach Dan Bylsma”We have to evaluate everything, coaching staff, the players. What are they willing to change?” Housley said. ”There comes a point in your career where you have to realize what’s important. Obviously, winning, what it takes to win, the commitment to win in this league. And that’s what we talk about change.”Very little went right in a season Buffalo opened 1-5-2 and closed 2-9, extending the franchise’s longest playoff drought to a seventh straight year.Buffalo matched a franchise low for home wins by going 11-25-5, including a 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers in the Winter Classic at New York City. The Sabres finished last in the NHL with 199 goals scored, 91 goals at home and in being outscored by 81 goals.Their best run was a three-game win streak, all on the road, while the Sabres went winless over four or more games seven times, including an 0-5-2 skid from Nov. 10-22.The reality of how bad the Sabres were Tampa Bay Lightning T-Shirts Authentic , set in at the midpoint of the season for defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen.”It was around Christmas and we were done, and we still had 40 games to play,” Ristolainen said. ”Everyone wants to make the playoffs so bad, and we weren’t even close.”LIKING EICHEichel led Buffalo with a career-best 25 goals and 64 points in 67 games, despite missing 15 games with a sprained right ankle. Much more is expected next season when Eichel’s eight-year, $80 million contract kicks in.”Things will get better and it starts with me,” Eichel said. ”Everybody needs to look at themselves and figure out what they’re doing. Obviously, whatever I’ve been doing hasn’t been working. What we’ve been doing as a team hasn’t been working.”DOWN ON THE FARMWhile the Sabres are done, their AHL Rochester Americans affiliate qualified for the playoffs for the first time in four years. Each week in practice Womens Customized New England Patriots Jerseys , the New England Patriots defense faces one of the best offensive units in all of football. Tonight against the Kansas City Chiefs, the unit needs to take advantage of this experience to make sure not to be overwhelmed by what currently is the NFL’s second highest-scoring team: the Chiefs have scored more than 27 points in each of their five games and on average hang 35 of them on their opponents.Kansas City has been able to do that by using a highly efficient running game, a rushing attack that is able to control the tempo of the game, and play calling that has been able to play to the strengths of the unit’s personnel. Led by second-year quarterback and MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have therefore been able to cruise to a 5-0 record despite a defense that has not always been up to the challenge. In this sense, Kansas City is similar to New England: the offense has enormous firepower but oftentimes needs to carry the defense at least this early during the season. Maybe today is the day that this changes for the Patriots, but in order for that to happen Brian Flores’ unit needs to be on top of its game and take especial care of the following three things.Be disciplined against RPO conceptsAs Patriots head coach Bill Belichick noted in his film breakdown of the upcoming matchup, Kansas City uses the run-pass option at a higher rate than other teams in the league. The concept, which allows the quarterback to either hand the football off or keep it to pass depending on the movements of the defense, allows the Chiefs to put their ultra-athletic players in a tremendous position to be successful.Running back Kareem Hunt , who torched New England for 246 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns the last time the two teams met, is as dangerous as any running back in the league in space – no matter if he is handed the football or serving as a target in the passing game. The same goes for wide receiver Tyreek Hill: the speedster plays a huge role in the Chiefs’ offense due to his versatility and athletic traits.Kansas City’s coaching staff has done a tremendous job this season to put them and thd aforementioned Mahomes in a position to be successful. Using the run-pass option as a weapon of choice is a big reason why as it takes advantage of all three players’ abilities: Hill and Hunt are nearly unstoppable in the open field, while Mahomes has shown a knack for making the right decisions when it comes to keeping the football or handing it off.New England’s defense needs to be on high alert when such looks are presented, with the linebackers in particular playing a key role: Dont’a Hightower and company need to stay disciplined and not tip their hand too soon in order to make life as difficult as possible for Mahomes.Keep Patrick Mahomes in the pocketSpeaking of Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback’s quality when it comes to running the option play is not the only thing that makes him a dangerous player. The former first-round draft pick also is one of the NFL’s most athletic passers and as such able to maneuver around pressure to create additional space and time to deliver passes – all while keeping his poise and his eyes down the field.Unlike other young passers, Mahomes does not have a tendency to try advancing the football himself. Instead, he oftentimes breaks the pocket to buy more time for his receiving options to get open. He and his teammates are typically successful in such situations, which speaks for both the quarterback’s targets and himself. This ability to make plays outside of the pocket is what makes the 23-year old as dangerous a player as he is.The plan for New England’s pass rush therefore has to be clear: stay disciplined. The unit looks improved in this area when compared to last year but still has its inconsistent moments of rushing around the passer to allow him to step up (one player in particular: Adrian Clayborn). Tonight, it is imperative that the Patriots don’t open up lanes for Mahomes to step into or break outside of the pocket. The edge rushers in particular are a key when it comes to this.Take away the big playTied for fourth in the NFL at 6.5 yards per play, the Chiefs offense is a big play waiting to happen – and a look at the personnel shows why: Tyreek Hill is an elite deep threat wideout New England Patriots T-Shirt , Travis Kelce one of the league’s best receiving tight ends, and Kareem Hunt one of its premier backfield pass catchers. While Hill averages 15.7 yards per reception, Kelce and Hunt gain 14.5 and 13.2, respectively. In short: Kansas City’s top three give Mahomes an impressive set of targets able to challenge all areas of a defense particularly in the passing game. New England has to be ready for this and try to set up its matchups accordingly – especially considering that Sammy Watkins and Chris Conley are no slouches either. It would therefore not be a surprise to see the team mix in some more cover 2 looks alongside its usual mix of cover 1 and cover 3.Using a mix of coverages – with Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon as the deep centerfielders – might help New England defend the deep portions of the field and also force Kansas City to take a patient approach to drive down the field. The Patriots are no strangers to playing this kind of football: the team is willing to give up yards but forces its opponent to string together successful plays to earn points.Oftentimes, this approach works well as plenty of NFL offenses don’t have the consistency to take advantage of this. Based on the quality of its players, Kansas City might – but the only way to find it out is to take away the deep passing game as well as possible.New England Patriots links 9/20/18 - Will it take a rocket scientist for the Lions to beat the Pats? 2018 Patriots roster cuts: The New England Patriots will have to cut their roster down to 53 men by 4:00 p.m. ET today Womens Trey Flowers Jersey , and there are multiple way of doing that. One is putting players on the injured reserve list, something the Patriots already did twice today: offensive tackle Ulrick John and tight end Ryan Izzo will all spend the 2018 season on the sidelines. Now, a third player joins them in rookie wide receiver Braxton Berrios.According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New England has placed Berrios on injured reserve:The sixth-round draft selection appeared in the first of New England’s preseason contests – playing 11 offensive snaps and registering one catch for three yards while also serving as a punt and kickoff returner –, but has been a no-show ever since. It now looks as if he suffered some previously unreported injury along the way that will keep him out this year.Berrios was not guaranteed a spot on the Patriots’ roster, but still spend the entire 2018 season in New England by getting placed on injured reserve. His rookie campaign could therefore be seen as a redshirt season.Patriots head coach Bill Belichick highlights takeaways, Josh Gordon touchdown in film breakdown of Colts game After every New England Patriots win , head coach Bill Belichick joins radio color commentator and ex-Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak for a film breakdown of the action. This week, the duo took a look at five pivotal plays from the team’s 38-24 victory over the visiting Indianapolis Colts.2-6-IND 6 (1:37) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short middle to J.White for 6 yards, TOUCHDOWN.“It really starts with the quarterback,” Belichick says about running back James White’s second quarter touchdown that put the Patriots up 21-3. Against the Colts’ cover 2 defense, the head coach highlights Tom Brady’s ability to manipulate the defense with his eyes to create space for his running back. “Tom does a great job here of looking over to the three receivers – the strong side of the formation – and draws the linebacker over, and that creates space.” Brady moving the linebacker left White wide open on the other side of the formation.1-10-IND 44 (5:10) A.Luck pass short left to J.Wilkins to IND 48 for 4 yards (D.McCourty). FUMBLES (D.McCourty), RECOVERED by NE-D.McCourty at 50. D.McCourty to 50 for no gain (Q.Nelson).“Nothing better than turning the ball over Womens Lawrence Guy Jersey ,” Belichick said about the second play he and Zolak took a look at: safety Devin McCourty’s forced fumble and recovery in the third quarter. New England’s head coach starts by praised his defense for defending the deep pattern down the field before praising McCourty for his open-field tackling. “This would have been a good tackle even without the fumble,” Belichick said. “As he makes the tackle, you can see he has great presence and awareness to get the ball out.”1-10-NE 49 (7:25) (No Huddle, Shotgun) A.Luck pass short right intended for Z.Pascal INTERCEPTED by J.Jones (J.McCourty) at NE 38. J.Jones pushed ob at IND 34 for 28 yards (B.Smith).Belichick starts by praising the pass rush by second-year men Deatrich Wise Jr. and Adam Butler, which forces quarterback Andrew Luck out of the pocket. After the Colts’ passer delivered the football, cornerbacks Jason McCourty and Jonathan Jones combined for the interception: “Jason makes a nice play on the ball here, where he wraps his arm around and pops it up Youth Deatrich Wise Jr. Jersey ,” Belichick noted before also praising defensive tackle Danny Shelton for not risking a block in the back penalty during Jones’ return of the pick.1-10-IND 34 (7:15) (Shotgun) S.Michel left guard for 34 yards, TOUCHDOWN.On the very first play after the interception, Sony Michel scored a 34-yard touchdown run – and again Belichick starts by taking a look at the the men up front. “It starts with the double-team block between Joe [Thuney] and Trent Brown,” Belichick said before also praising the efforts by Shaq Mason and Rob Gronkowski creating a lane for the first-round rookie. “Good kickout block here by Shaq, Rob does a nice job.”1-10-IND 34 (9:28) T.Brady pass deep right to J.Gordon for 34 yards, TOUCHDOWN.Belichick and Zolak then go back to an earlier fourth quarter play: Tom Brady’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Josh Gordon. “This was kind of like the coup de grace here,” Belichick said of the play. “Gordon does a nice job adjusting here and Tom makes a good throw to the corner of the end zone ,” Belichick said about the score which gave the quarterback 500 career touchdown passes and an NFL record with 71 different receivers hit for scores. To watch video of the breakdown, please visit

The Miami Dolphins' undefeated start to the season came with some early excitement heading into their matchup at New England. That buzz went flat again — in a familiar place — following Miami's lopsided 38-7 loss to their AFC East rivals .The Dolphins (3-1) were looking to improve to 4- 0 for the first time since 1995 — Hall of Fame coach Don Shula's final season.Instead, they were humbled in every phase during Sunday's dizzying setback.Ryan Tannehill had been a steadying presence for the Dolphins' offense during the first three weeks of the season, completing 73 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns with just two interceptions, improving to 10-1 over 11 starts in that span. But he regressed against the Patriots (2-2), looking every bit like the quarterback that is now 0-6 in games at Foxborough.Tannehill finished 11 for 20 for 100 yards and an interception. He was pulled in the fourth quarter in favor of Brock Osweiler. Osweiler connected with Frank Gore for a 6-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for Miami's lone score."Not a lot went right for us. It's tough to say one thing at this point because we didn't really execute any part of the game plan that we wanted to," Tannehill said. "To say one thing is going to be difficult this time, and I don't think it will ever be one thing."In his six losses at New England Cheap Malcom Brown Jersey , he has just 837 passing yards, four TDs and two INTs.With Tannehill ineffective, the offense struggled to make first downs. It went 3 for 11 on third down while managing just 172 yards."We didn't come out and start the game like we wanted to," Tannehill said. "We didn't convert on third down, we didn't take care of the football, we didn't gain yardage. We didn't do anything we wanted to, so lot of work to do."Miami also relapsed to a team prone to self-inflicted wounds, amassing 10 penalties for 89 yards. Last season the Dolphins' offense led the league in penalties (65) and penalty yards (553).As bad as it looked, running back Kenyan Drake said it was just a shot to the system and not something they can't bounce back from."We're in a good seat," Drake said. I mean, this loss hurts. You know, we wanted to definitely get a 'W,' but we're looking to get things rolling in the other quarter (of the season). So, the thing is we've got to get those things corrected."FINDING POSITIVESIf there was one positive takeaway from Sunday's loss, it might have come on the defensive side of the ball. The Dolphins managed to pick off quarterback Tom Brady twice. Cornerback Bobby McCain snared one on Brady's deep, third down pass over the middle in the first quarter. It was Brady's third interception of the season. He didn't throw his third interception last season until Week 11 against Miami. Minkah Fitzpatrick got the other in the fourth quarter .It marked the Miami defense's ninth interception this season. It had nine all last season. It's why Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso said there is still plenty to be excited about in their locker room going forward."Although it was ugly, it is just one loss," Alonso said. "We are on to Cincinnati and obviously we have to get better."NOT CLOSEThe Dolphins entered the day having won all three of their games this season by one score or less — amassing a record of 16-5 under coach Adam Gase. They are 3-13 in games decided by more than one score.INJURY UPDATEMiami was already down a safety with Reshad Jones sitting out Sunday's game with a shoulder injury.Add cornerback Bobby McCain to the list of players on the mend after he left the loss with a knee injury. Dolphins center Daniel Kilgore also left the game in the first half with an arm injury.Gase didn't have an update on the severity of McCain's ailment."Obviously him not coming back into the game wasn't a really great sign," Gase said.Follow Kyle Hightower on Twitter at ://khightower

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP , Pa. (AP) Sidney Crosby has faced the Washington Capitals three times in the playoffs. All three times the Pittsburgh captain has led his team to victory. And all three times the Penguins used the win as the springboard to a raucous mid-June parade with the Stanley Cup in tow.Still, Crosby sounded like a cautious investor on Tuesday when asked if Pittsburgh has a mental advantage over rival Alexander Ovechkin and the Capitals heading into yet another postseason showdown in the Eastern Conference semifinals starting later this week.Past performance, the two-time MVP stressed, does not guarantee future results.”I think it depends on what you do in the series and how you play,” Crosby said. ”I don’t think it plays a huge role. I guess to answer your question, no.”A mantra Crosby’s teammates repeated over and over they prepared for yet another showdown in a rivalry that somehow manages to be both compelling and one-sided. Pittsburgh is 9-1 all-time in the postseason against Washington regardless of who is in the black-and-gold sweaters and who is in red, white and blue. Not that Ovechkin is intimidated. The Capitals star said he “can’t wait” to get another shot at the Penguins after spearheading Washington’s first-round win over Columbus in six games. That’s fine by Pittsburgh, which has played Lucy to Washington’s Charlie Brown for more than a quarter century, dangling a potentially deep playoff run in front of the Capitals only to pull it back at the last minute. The Penguins Nashville Predators T-Shirts Womens , however, remain wary. Just because they always beat Washington doesn’t mean they’re going to always beat Washington. The teams split their four meetings during the regular season, with the Capitals wrapping up their third straight Metropolitan Division title with a 3-1 win in Pittsburgh on April Fool’s Day.Of course, none of it matters once the puck drops in Game 1.”It’s a new year,” Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang said. ”The series is going to play out differently. The game is going to be won differently. You don’t know how it is going to go. The only thing I know is it’s a good rivalry, two really good teams, two teams that have a lot of punch offensively. It’s going to be fun to be a part of.”Particularly for Letang. He missed all of Pittsburgh’s run to a second straight Stanley Cup last spring while recovering from neck surgery, though he was able to make his way to the arena for Game 7 of the conference semifinals, when Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 29 shots he faced and the Penguins escaped with a 2-0 victory to finish a series in which both teams scored 20 goals and won on opposing ice at least twice.Though there are a handful of new faces on both sides Nashville Predators Hoodies Womens , the principals remain the same. Ovechkin and Crosby. Evgeni Malkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Letang and Braden Holtby. Two weeks of taut, tense hockey in the offing.”I think it’s the same old dangerous team,” Letang said. ”Like, don’t get me wrong, those series went the distance, they went to overtime. It was a tough matchup that could have gone either way. They cause the same problems to our team. They cause problems on the power play. They have a lot of skill. They make a lot of plays.”Yet the Penguins have always found a way to make at least one more, though they may be at less than 100 percent when things get going. Malkin and forward Carl Hagelin both missed practice on Tuesday. Malkin is dealing with a lower-body injury while Hagelin has an upper-body issue after colliding with Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux in Pittsburgh’s clinching victory over the Flyers in Game 6.That could provide more playing time for players like Riley Sheahan – who filled in capably on the second line for Malkin in Game 6 – and rookie Zach Aston-Reese. The 23-year-old was in high school the first time Crosby and Ovechkin met in the playoffs in 2009 – when the Penguins blitzed the Capitals in Game 7 of the conference semifinals on their way to the Cup.This time, Aston-Reese’s view will be markedly different. He noticed an uptick in intensity from the regular season when the Penguins fended off the Flyers. Now, the dial goes up to 11 and stays there.”I expect every game to be almost like a Game 7 Nashville Predators Hats Womens ,” Aston-Reese said. That’s because it almost always is.— BOSTON (AP) — David Pastrnak got to the 100-goal mark and moved right past it.Pastrnak scored three times Saturday, giving him 101 goals for his career, and the Boston Bruins kept Detroit winless with an 8-2 victory over the Red Wings.“It’s been quick and I’m glad that I get to be part of this,” Pastrnak said. “I’m just having fun. I love the game. I’m not focusing on if I’m going to score a goal or three.”It was the second career hat trick for Pastrnak, Boston’s star 22-year-old Czech who has seven goals in five games already this season.“He’s growing up. He’s trying to get everyone involved and that’s part of being a good teammate,” Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said.Patrice Bergeron had three assists and Jake DeBrusk scored twice for the Bruins, who also got goals from Charlie McAvoy, Anders Bjork and Sean Kuraly.David Krejci and Brad Marchand had a pair of assists each and Tuukka Rask had 32 saves to help Boston win its fourth straight.Filip Hronek and Dylan Larkin scored for the Red Wings, who fell to 0-5 for the first time since 1980.The Red Wings lost defenseman Danny DeKeyser to an undisclosed injury early in the first period Custom Nashville Predators Jerseys , leaving the defense short-handed in front of goalie Jonathan Bernier, who finished with 31 saves.“We regressed tonight for sure. I don’t think there’s any doubt,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “It was a bad effort. I don’t even know if effort is even the right word. Bad effort, bad execution, unacceptable.”Hronek’s power-play goal 21 seconds into the third was the first of his career, briefly cutting Boston’s lead to 4-1.The start time was moved up to 3 p.m. from 7 p.m. because of the opener of the American League Championship Series between the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday night. Boston fans were looking ahead with the Bruins up big in the third period, chanting “Let’s Go Red Sox!”Pastrnak started the rout with 51 seconds left in the first period, taking the puck from deep in his own zone and going untouched before beating Bernier with a wrist shot for his 99th career goal.“Nobody really came at me. I just kept going forward and the D gave me some space,” Pastrnak said.Pastrnak got his 100th early in the second on a power-play , on one-timing a pass from Bergeron to put Boston up 4-0, and completed the hat trick at 2:05 into the period on one-timer off a pass from Brad Marchand on a 2-on-1. The game was stopped for a few minutes to clean up the dozens of hats that came showering down from the seats.Bergeron got his third assist on the play. He set up Pastrnak’s first goal and had another assist off a faceoff win and drop pass to McAvoy for a one-timer 4:44 into the second to put the Bruins up 2-0.The Bruins have outscored their opponents 20-6 since getting shut out by Washington 7-0 in the season opener. The Red Wings have been outscored 23-11 through five games.“They didn’t really have to work for the scoring chances they got,” Detroit forward Frans Nielsen said. “We’ve got to do a way better job of managing the puck and being a little harder to play against.”NOTES: Detroit has lost 10 straight against Boston. .. Pastrnak reached 100 goals in 259 career games, the third-fastest in franchise history, trailing only Barry Pederson (187) and Dit Clapper (247). … The loudest cheer of the day came during a stopage in the second period when the big screen monitor showed the Red Sox celebrating to the tune of “New York, New York” after advancing to the ALCS with a win over the Yankees. .UP NEXTRed Wings: At Montreal on Monday night.Bruins: At Calgary on Wednesday night.

on most teams Youth Kyle Rudolph Jersey , or at least that is how the cliche goes. There has yet to be a season in the NFL where all 32 NFL teams have started and ended the season with their starting quarterback. There is a notion that the backup quarterback role is a “guy who can get us through a few games.”No.No. No.No. No, and No.The league has incorrectly operated with this mentality for too long. Every year there are a number of teams who have huge aspirations because of their roster, but the season is immediately derailed by a season-ending injury to their quarterback. The Vikings in 2016 were one of those teams, ultimately trading for Sam Bradford, the team still finished 8-8. Was the move worth it? In hindsight, probably not, but the ownership knew it had to sell “hope” to a fan base opening a new stadiumLet’s take a look at some notable back ups around the league.@evansilvaIf any of these players have to play this season, the season is likely over for the team. The Panthers have struggled to surround Cam Newton with real talent on the offensive line or wide receiver talent. Taylor Heinicke would not be a savior to that organization if Newton is injured.Last season the Minnesota Vikings had to rely on Case Keenum for majority of the season. Due to Keenum being a highly volatile quarterback, the Vikings had some phenomenal play, and some poor play. In a league with few franchise quarterbacks, teams are often overpaying backup quarterbacks like they are starters. Mike Glennon was paid $18.5 million dollars to be their starter, until ultimately deciding to draft Mitchell Tribusky. The NFL should move towards getting two starting caliber quarterbacks. In a league where the quarterback is the most important position, why not have two starters instead of one? One can argue that it takes reps from the starter and it slows development, but the development of the quarterback will be slowed if they become injured(i.e. Andrew Luck).Trevor Siemian has started a number of games before the Vikings traded for him this past off-season. He is not a quarterback that could challenge Kirk Cousins, which is fine, because the Vikings do not want him to. Logically though, the Vikings should want someone who could challenge Cousins, even though they have paid him a lot of money. The Vikings had the option to let Cousins compete with Teddy Bridgewater or Case Keenum this past off-season, but decided against it. Any quarterback not consistently in the top 5-7 should have a player behind them pushing them to perform better. Should organizations continue to be so comfortable with their quarterback situations simply because they pay their starters so much money? Definitely not, and a decision for ateam to bring in two capable starters will put any organization ahead of the the rest of the league. The Patriots traded away Jimmy Garoppolo for a draft pick, but most overvalue draft picks, where they should realize proven talent is more important than a gambled pick. The Vikings should strongly consider bringing in more talent, if not during the season then 2019 draft. Every other position on the field has to compete, quarterbacks should be no different.Vikings at Packers: Five Game-Changing Plays Well, that was certainly...something.The Week 2 game between the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers had just about everything. All three phrases on both sides of the ball had a roller coaster ride on Sunday afternoon. There were blocked kicks, missed kicks, terrible penalties, missed penalties, amazing passes, awful drops, incredible catches Youth Kirk Cousins Jersey , and crushing heartbreaks for fans of both teams. There were enough intertwining storylines to fill a dozen tomes of football annals all crammed into three hours and 37 minutes at Lambeau Field. The takes extracted from this game will fill the sports radio airwaves for days to come. The only thing the game didn’t have? A victor. While both teams had numerous chances to win the game that they’ll be kicking themselves over (pun intended) on Monday, the game ended in a 29-29 deadlock. It was easily one of the most bizarre chapters in the storied Border Battle rivalry’s history. While we could easily expand our weekly list to twenty plays in recapping this crazy back-and-forth affair, we’re going to try and whittle down the absurdity and insanity to the five biggest plays from yesterday’s action.Play 1: Vikings ball, 4th & 16 at the Minnesota 15. First quarter, 7:33 remaining. M.Wile punt is BLOCKED by G.Allison, Center-K.McDermott, RECOVERED by GB-J.Jackson at MIN -1. TOUCHDOWN.The first score of the game was an omen for how awful the Vikings’ kicking game would be on Sunday. It appeared that Anthony Harris incorrectly diagnosed where the pressure was coming from right before the snap, because Geronimo Allison came through unabated to block Matt Wile’s punt. Josh Jackson snagged the ball in the end zone and suddenly it was 7-0 Packers halfway through the first quarter. The sudden touchdown for the opposition felt a lot like the pick six in last year’s NFC Championship Game—a deflating blow that the Vikings might not be able to recover from. Thankfully, the Vikings kept fighting despite this play launching them into catch-up mode for the majority of the contest. It was a wild way to start the scoring. But if only we knew just how wild it was about to get...Play 2: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Minnesota 25. Fourth quarter, 2:13 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short middle intended for L.Treadwell INTERCEPTED by H.Clinton-Dix at MIN 37. H.Clinton-Dix to MIN 13 for 24 yards (D.Cook, T.Compton).Skipping all the way from the first score of the game to the final minutes of regulation is truly doing this game an injustice, as there were some incredible plays in between that deserved to be documented:We had Laquon Treadwell’s first (and possibly last) touchdown as a Viking. We had Davante Adams breaking the ankles of Xavier Rhodes and Anthony Barr as he waltzed into the end zone.We had Ben Gedeon making a great pass defense downfield against Jimmy Graham, but probably starting said defense a bit too early. We saw the referees call subtle push-offs on Packers pass catchers while largely ignoring some blatant holds by their offensive linemen. We had Daniel Carlson shank a field goal just after the two-minute warning, followed by Eric Kendricks called for what would turn out to be only the second worst roughing the passer call of the game, leading to Mason Crosby giving the Packers giving a ten point lead at the halftime whistle. We had Stefon Diggs make an incredible grab on a low throw for a short touchdown after leaving Tramon Williams in the dust with his pre-snap motion. We had Aaron Rodgers “heroically” scrambling away from pressure and making sure everyone knew how bad his knee hurt by doing an exaggerated limp only after going out of bounds. We had Everson Griffen spearhead a huge third down stop to force a field goal and keep the Vikings within striking distance halfway through the fourth quarter. We had Kirk Cousins throw a gorgeous pass over 60 yards in the air to Diggs to get the Vikings back within two.But the last twelve-plus minutes of this game were so unhinged that we simply have to gloss over all of that and get to the really important stuff. Like this interception that went directly through Treadwell’s hands and seemingly sealed the game for Green Bay.After the Vikings defense held Green Bay to Mason Crosby’s fourth field goal of the game to keep within one score, this is what happened on the very first play of the ensuing drive. It was the play that made me officially throw in the towel on any lingering hope I had for the third year receiver. The Vikings have seemingly started to agree on Monday, signing Aldrick Robinson to a deal. Unfortunately, they weren’t done with him during the game, as they threw to him on back-to-back plays in the ensuing overtime...but we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves here. There is lots of craziness left in regulation to cover.Play 3: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Minnesota 25. Fourth quarter, 1:45 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short right intended for S.Coley INTERCEPTED by J.Alexander at MIN 23. J.Alexander to MIN 18 for 5 yards (G.Iloka). PENALTY on GB-C.Matthews, Roughing the Passer, 15 yards, enforced at MIN 25 - No Play.Even after Treadwell’s boner (stop giggling—I’m using the word correctly here), the Vikings defense once again held firm and held Green Bay to a field goal. Somehow, it was still a one score game with just under two minutes remaining. Once again, an interception on the first play of the drive seemed to negate all hope for Vikings fans. But wait! Someone touched the quarterback! For the second straight week, Clay Matthews gave the opposing team new life with a roughing the passer penalty! But unlike the opening week in Chicago, where Matthews obviously hit Mitchell Trubisky too late, this one was...well White Mike Hughes Jersey , it was a bad call. Even when looking at this one with the most purple-tinted glasses possible, I don’t see how this was a penalty. Just like I couldn’t see how roughing the passer was called on Kendricks earlier in the game. If these kind of hits are going to be illegal, I don’t know how one is able to hit the quarterback at all in today’s NFL.(That said, I do appreciate the irony of the Packers getting a win taken away from a rule that was created to protect their quarterback.)Play 4a: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Green Bay 22. Fourth quarter, 0:37 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass deep right to A.Thielen for 22 yards, TOUCHDOWN [M.Daniels].Play 4b: Vikings ball, two-point conversion attempt. Fourth quarter, 0:31 remaining. K.Cousins pass to S.Diggs is complete. ATTEMPT SUCCEEDS.Even after the egregious call against Matthews, the Vikings still had to drive 60 yards in just over 90 seconds to score. And then get a two point conversion. And that’s exactly what they did.I still don’t know how the pass from Cousins found its way in the keyhole-sized space between Jaire Alexander and Kentrell Brice. I still don’t know how Adam Thielen held onto the ball and managed to park his backside in the end zone before going out of bounds. All I know is that it happened, it counted, and on the next play the Vikings tied the game on a perfectly executed goal line fade to Stefon Diggs. And even after all THAT magic, the Packers had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation thanks to some truly baffling boundary defending by the Vikings secondary. But after five makes, Crosby finally missed a 52-yard try to put the game to overtime.Daniel Carlson must have admired Crosby’s miss and said to himself, “let me show you how it’s done.”Play 5: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Green Bay 17. Overtime, 0:04 remaining. D.Carlson 35 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Right, Center-K.McDermott, Holder-M.Wile.The play where Daniel Carlson literally kicked himself out of a job and opened the door for Dan Bailey to join the team.Carlson had a really bad football weekend. He went 0-for-3, including two misses in overtime, in his second (and last) game with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The day before, he watched his alma mater, Auburn, lose to LSU. To make matters worse, they lost by one point...on a last-second field goal. To make matters the worst, the Auburn kicker missed a 52-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter that would have forced LSU to go for a touchdown instead of that field goal at the end. That Auburn kicker? Anders Carlson. Daniel’s little brother.Ouch.As always, we welcome you to vote in the poll to tell us which play you thought was the biggest and encourage you to suggest any we may have missed in the comments. And for a game as bonkers as this one was, there were certainly a lot that we didn’t cover.

49ers at Vikings: Did we enjoy NFL Penaltyfest Kickoff last night?Yeah , I was underwhelmed myself, but hey, at least football is back.As we’ve all known for months, the Beloved Purple take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at US Bank Stadium. Here on SB Nation, we usually contact the sister blog of our opponent and do a ‘Five Good Questions’ segment to get to know the opposing team a little better. This week, we’re still talking with Niners Nation, the network blog about the San Francisco 49ers, but we’re doing it with a little twist to the 5GQ segment. I’ve exchanged emails with David ‘Fooch’ Fucillo, one of the Head Ball Coaches over there (hey, that’s what the masthead says) and All Around Good Guy (not on the masthead, but still accurate), and we’ve laid out cases why our teams might lose. Kind of an internal scouting report, if you will. So, without further delay, here’s Dave’s thoughts on why his beloved 49ers might lose to the Vikings this Sunday:Why the 49ers might lose, by David FucilloThere is plenty of optimism in the Bay Area (well, not for the Raiders), but I’m trying to be a little more realistic about a tough opener in Minnesota. The 49ers are a 6.5-point underdog, and I think we end up seeing the Vikings cover the spread on this one. A 49ers upset is not out of the realm of the possible, but it’s not going to be an easy one. And there are plenty of things that could go south that could create problems. On offense, naturally Jimmy Garoppolo is the high profile figure. The 49ers won five straight when he took over as starter, and saw their offense reach levels not seen since the Harbaugh years. Garoppolo could easily come back to earth, but even if he plays well, there are some issues for the 49ers offense. The most significant is in the red zone. The 49ers were near the bottom of the league in touchdowns per red zone appearance. If they don’t improve in that area, it won’t matter nearly enough what they’re doing between the 20s.Of course Womens Eric Kendricks Jersey , I would be remiss if I did not mention Jerick McKinnon’s absence. He tore his ACL last weekend and is done for the year. Alfred Morris and Matt Breida will split work in McKinnon’s absence, along with fullback Kyle Juszczyk specifically in the passing game. Morris knows Shanahan’s offense, but there are plenty of question marks considering he did not join the roster until midway through the preseason. If he shows up, this game could get really interesting, but if he struggles against this stout Vikings defense, San Francisco is in trouble. On defense, it comes down to the pass defense. Reuben Foster’s absence due to suspension is problematic, but the 49ers have some potentially solid depth at linebacker. The bigger question is between the pass rush and the secondary. The 49ers pass rush was shaky at best last season, and the team did not do much to address it. If this group takes a step forward, it will be because defensive linemen Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas take a big step forward alongside DeForest Buckner this season. If they don’t get some consistent, healthy play from this group, the 49ers could be in a world of hurt. The back half of the pass defense is another big question. The 49ers signed Richard Sherman to start opposite Ahkello Witherspoon. Sherman is returning from a torn Achilles and at 30 years of age, he faces plenty of questions. I have no doubt the Vikings will challenge him regularly on Sunday. If he does not prove himself back in pre-injury form, it will be a long day for the 49ers defense. Thanks, Dave, for that unique perspective on this week’s Most Hated Enemy. Here’s to a good game with no injuries or penalties for tackling. And may a catch be always in our favor. Skol!Zim Tzu ruffles some feathers ED NOTE: This has bad words. Most of the other things we write on here usually don’t, but this one does. It seems to be a popular bit, so until the law catches up with me, I’m going to keep doing it. Thanks for understanding, and thanks for not reading and not letting your kids read it if bad language isn’t your thing. Hope you enjoy the rest of our articles—TedAt some point in life a warrior poet will be dealt with unexpected setbacks, maybe two or three, all within close proximity of one another, and it feels like you’re entering a graveyard spiral. How you deal with it determines your way forward, and the paths are quite divergent. Sometimes you can fight through it, level your wings Customized Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , and fly on towards your destiny. Or things spin out of control, to the point the only thing left is impact, a fiery explosion, and no survivors. So when faced with this scenario, you can do one of two things. You can just accept your fate and get blown to smithereens, or you can grab the stick and fight. And keep fighting, until you level your wings, let the cobwebs clear, and start moving forward again. Because as any good warrior poet knows, moving forward is the only option, and quitting is for losers. And you move forward, because warrior poets are not losers.Because you are Zim Tzu, The King In The North, Subduer of Equestrian Excrement Consumers, Nightmare of Clan Fromage, Breaker Of Gold Fever, High Septon Of Eagan, Lord Commander Of The Iron Range And Twin Cities, Master Of Fortress TCO, Honorary Elder Of Mankato and Protector Of The Realm. And when you do fly out of the spins people want to hear about your aerobatic tales, and marvel at your death defying stunts. And that’s where we come in.* We’re essentially the barnstorming experts**, that take the words that are spoken, and translate them into what Zim Tzu was actually thinking at the time.****We are not in. We’re more out in the cold than a wet dude in the Arctic.**Airplanes are for folks that are scared to fly. Helicopters are where it’s at, yo.***My legal team of Franklin, Bash , and Bateman can’t stress enough that this is 100% satire, and no reading of minds or psychic powers were employed in writing this. No animals were harmed, either. Except eagles. GET IT?!?!What Zim Tzu meant: Holy mother of Odin we beat those horseshit eating jackasses. They literally eat horseshit, which metaphorically was like watching our two most recent games. Especially Buffalo, because what in the sweet fuck was that? Nice win, helps get that shit taste out of the mouth. Let’s fucking go.Q: Why has Kirk Cousins been so good at diagnosing blitzes and avoiding them? What Zim Tzu meant: Well, Granitejaw McDreamy has this thing we call ‘talent’. He also has two other things we call ‘experience’ and ‘health’. And when you combine these three things in a cauldron of witches brew, you get this fuckin’ miracle called ‘a quarterback that doesn’t suck’. And I want you to inject this strange brew concoction straight into my veins, eyeballs, and buttcheeks from now until the end of my days because watching a good quarterback wearing a Vikings uniform play at a high level must feel like what being high on cocaine is like. Q: In what ways has Stephen Weatherly improved as a pass rusher? What Zim Tzu meant: You know Stephen has come a long way. When he first got here he’d stand up at the snap and yell to the sideline ‘HEY COACH AM I DOING THIS RIGHT?’ and then he’d get steamrolled. Look, it was funny as shit, and admittedly we kept him around for comedic purposes only. But now he’s come on strong and on Sunday he went after Wentz like Wentz owed him money and the football was the wallet.Q: What are the keys to having two defensive ends that can play both the strong and weak side of the ball? What Zim Tzu meant: It means I can come at you with more looks than Taylor Swift has costume changes at one of her concerts. And we’ll write your name. In the dirt. Fuckers. Q: You’ve drafted a lot of pass rushers who didn’t have a lot of sacks in college. How do you identify those players coming out, and how important has Andre Patterson been in developing them? What Zim Tzu meant: Andre Patterson is a fucking defensive lineman whisperer. Truth is, he helps defensive linemen with pass rush problems. Then those defensive linemen fuck up some quarterbacks.Q: How much do you coach Dan Bailey during a game like yesterday? Do you get involved with the kicker much, or just decide when you’re going to kick the field goal? What Zim Tzu meant: Yeah, I thought about talking to him. I thought about going up to him and asking him what the fuck his problem was because GODDAMN IT I’M SICK OF KICKERS AND I WILL HACK OFF YOUR GODDAMN LEG WITH A BROKEN HOCKEY STICK AND MAKE YOU LIMP HOME ON A BLOODY STUMP IF YOU DON’T MAKE THIS NEXT KICK. I had zero confidence he would make it.Q: What does the resiliency of this defense bring to the team? What Zim Tzu meant: Well, it’s nice to not get fucking boatraced for the third week in a row, that’s for sure. Let’s see what happens against the Cardinals. Q: Have you gotten another chance to look at Andrew Sendejo’s hit? What Zim Tzu meant: It was bullshit, man. Just like the fuckin’ game clock in Chicago. Q: Do you worry about a player getting a reputation with officials where they’re more likely to flag them? What Zim Tzu meant: Andrew Sendejo’s reputation is so well known it arrives at the stadium three hours before the rest of the team and is more damaged than Minnesota roads.Q: The onside kick seemed like it was pretty well executed. What was going through your mind there as it took a bad hop and bounces off of Adam Thielen at first? What Zim Tzu meant: We are so fucked. Q: What is it about Adam Thielen that makes him so good in that spot? What Zim Tzu meant: He recovered the ball.Q: Do you see a point in the league when quarterbacks are not completing 70 percent? What Zim Tzu meant: Well when you can’t hit or tackle the quarterback shit’s gonna skyrocket. Fuck it, let’s just do 7 on 7 drills and call it good. Q: People talk about how the run game and passing game need to be balanced. With guys throwing better does that become obsolete? What Zim Tzu meant: Not when guys are running for shit.Q: When you see so many teams spreading out and putting you in nickel situations, how does that affect your personnel and the way you (Ed note: original transcription ended there. I don’t know what the rest of the question was)What Zim Tzu meant: I smile, then I laugh, and then I fuck you up and end whatever hope your play had before it begins. Unless I iso Anthony Barr. Then we’re pretty well fucked.

RALEIGH , N.C. (AP) — Nothing brings out the best in New York Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss quite like the Carolina Hurricanes — and the barrage of shots they toss his way.The Islanders beat Carolina 2-1 on Sunday night after Greiss made 38 saves in his fifth straight victory against the Hurricanes.“He seems to love this building,” teammate Anders Lee said. “He’s seen everything, and for him to come in tonight and stand on his head … he’s the main reason we really won tonight.”Lee had a goal and an assist, Ryan Pulock scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Josh Bailey had two assists for the Islanders, who have earned points in three straight games. Playing eight of their first 11 games under new coach Barry Trotz on the road, they’ve won two in a row for the first time.“Guys have bought in right from the start, but hesitation at times — maybe being unsure of certain situations, and these last few games here, you start to see that it’s more natural to guys and guys are in the right spots,” Pulock said. “We’re doing a good job of not giving up a lot of grade-A chances and that’s what you’ve got to do to give yourself a shot to win every night.”It also helps to have Greiss facing a team he dominates: He’s stopped 128 of the 130 shots he’s faced in his last three games against Carolina. He earned his first victory since a 2-1 overtime win in the opener here on Oct. 4, and his winning streak against the Hurricanes dates to March 2017.Carolina averages a league-leading 41.5 shots per game — nearly five full shots more than second-place San Jose.“I’ve had a bunch of games, too, where they’ve lit me up,” Greiss quipped.Teuvo Teravainen scored for Carolina while Sebastian Aho matched a pair of club records with an assist — giving him points and assists in all 11 games this season, the longest active streak in the league. The Hurricanes had their two-game winning streak snapped and missed a chance to jump idle Pittsburgh for first place in the Metropolitan Division. He thwarted one of Carolina’s best chances late, stopping a slap shot from Justin Faulk with about seven minutes remaining before Teravainen shot wide of an empty net. Moments later, he turned aside Justin Williams’ close-range shot.“Listen St. Louis Blues T-Shirts Womens , Greiss is a good goalie, but he’s not a world-beater,” Williams said. “Every goalie in this league is good, and he’s one of them. We just, for some reason last couple games, we haven’t found a way to get one past him, and we have to.”Petr Mrazek, making his third straight start, finished with 18 saves for the Hurricanes, who lamented some issues on specialty teams. The power play has produced goals in only one of their last six games, and the penalty kill — which yielded the first goal in this one — entered as the NHL’s second-worst, a tenth of a percentage point behind Philadelphia at 67.6 percent.“Yes, we deserve better. Yes, we outshot them, but did we?” Williams said. “They did a great job clearing the front of the net. We didn’t have many second opportunities. Our power play needs to get us a goal. Certainly, when we lose the special-teams battle, it’s an uphill battle most of the game. And power play’s got to find a way to get one for us.”Pulock’s go-ahead goal came with 5:25 left in the second with a turnaround slap shot between the circles off a smooth pass from Lee St. Louis Blues Hoodies Womens , who skated along the boards.Lee put New York up 1-0 at 3:13 of the first — and 9 seconds into a hooking minor on Jordan Staal — when he scored on the power play off a pass from Bailey.Aho, who entered tied for fifth in the league with 15 points, matched Ron Francis’ franchise record for the longest point streak to start a season and Eric Staal’s club mark for most consecutive games with an assist at any point during a season. He set up the tying goal 1:16 seconds into the second period, with Teravainen banging in the rebound of Aho’s shot.NOTES: Carolina D Dougie Hamilton rang the left post early in the third. … The Islanders scratched RW Cal Clutterbuck (upper body) and RW Tom Kuhnhackl replaced him in the lineup. … Bailey has points in five straight games, the longest active streak on the team.UP NEXTIslanders: Finish a three-game trip Tuesday night at Pittsburgh.Hurricanes: Wrap up a three-game homestand Tuesday night against Boston. BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills were so dull during their lean years, comedian Nick Bakay feared his body would fuse to the couch while watching them play.”It’s an incredibly disturbing image,” Bakay said of wasting away Sundays witnessing his hometown team sleepwalk through one loss after another during a 17-season playoff drought that ended last year.”I never missed a Bills game. But I was always slumped on my couch. I was never sitting forward. I was never jumping to my feet,” said Bakay, who wrote ”Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and its sequel, and produced and appeared on the TV sitcom ”King of Queens.” ”You sit on your couch, and your couch slowly eats you.”No different for fans of Buffalo’s other pro sports franchise, the NHL’s Sabres, who finished last for the third time in five years and extended their franchise-worst playoff drought to a seventh season. In a shot-and-a-beer town where the winters are interminably long, Buffalo sports fans ride things out on the notion of renewal always being just around the corner. And there’s a new, palpable optimism for this hearty fan base, thanks to a three-day stretch which showed potential to alter the trajectory of both teams.First St. Louis Blues Hats Womens , the Bills made a pair of splashes in the first round of the NFL draft on April 26 by trading up to select Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen and Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. Two days later, the Sabres won the NHL draft lottery – something Buffalo lost the previous two times it finished last – and the opportunity to select projected No. 1 pick, Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.During the NFL draft, CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor got dirty looks from his wife during a rare dinner date sneaking peeks at the Bills’ picks. He then yelped with excitement upon learning the Sabres won the lottery while attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington.”I had just resigned myself to never winning it,” Glor said. ”But listen, I always have hope.”In Buffalo, there’s a fine line between affection and affliction for hope.”I always try to keep it in check a little bit,” said Glor, who grew up in the Buffalo suburb of Tonawanda.”Unfortunately, you get conditioned to where there are times you can be defeatist. And you try not to be. But you just don’t give up.”Fans have little choice but to persevere in a place where nickname-worthy moments are tied to losses. For the Bills, it’s ”Wide Right,” after kicker Scott Norwood missed a last-second field-goal attempt in a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants in the 1991 Super Bowl – the first of four consecutive Super Bowl losses. For the Sabres, it’s ”No Goal,” following a 2-1, triple-overtime loss to Dallas in Game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Final. Brett Hull’s Cup-clinching goal stood even though replays showed his skate in the crease. Those were the so-called glory days. The Bills and Sabres have won five playoff games combined since 2008. By comparison, the NHL’s expansion Vegas Golden Knights have already won eight in their first year of existence.Buffalo joins Nashville, Tennessee Custom St. Louis Blues Jerseys , and Charlotte, North Carolina, as the only North American markets with two or more major pro teams to not have won a title.”I think it builds character in a way. I joke with my friends that one day my kids will have to go through therapy because we are Sabres, Bills and Mets fans,” said former VH1-cable TV chief Tom Calderone, who’s from Long Island, New York, but got his broadcasting start in Buffalo and maintains a home in the city. ”It’s easy to be a Cowboys fan or a Patriots fan. But it takes true dedication to be a Bills or Sabres fan.”Calderone sees more hope reflected in signs of resurgence for the city itself. The former site of the Erie Canal has been transformed from vacant gravel lots to parkland, a water park that doubles as an ice rink in winter, and an entertainment/hockey complex built by Bills and Sabres owner Terry Pegula.Housing prices have tripled and a medical corridor is newly bustling along Main Street, where shuttered and boarded-up buildings have been renovated or replaced by new steel and glass structures.Buffalo still has its rust-belt blemishes as one of the nation’s poorest cities. Racial inequities, failing schools and a crumbling infrastructure remain issues. The Bills and Sabres aren’t immune to troubling headlines. Last week, the two teams’ president Russ Brandon resigned amid allegations of having inappropriate relationships with female employees.Buffalo might never regain the industrial-age prominence it held in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the city became a Great Lakes shipping hub as the gateway to the Erie Canal.Nor, however, should it become the punchline comedian Jon Stewart once delivered during a stop in Buffalo, calling the city the gateway to the Ontario border town of Fort Erie just across the Niagara River – population 30 ,000.Watching a documentary on former Bills running back O.J. Simpson, Bakay was reminded of the gloomy times in the 1970s when the steel mills began closing and legions of people left to find jobs.”It depressed me so much,” he said. ”Every shot of Buffalo looked like a moose that farted into the sky.”The decline led to Buffalo investing its psyche into its sports teams as a way of remaining part of the national conversation.”Our teams were the only way we could punch back and say, `Yeah, we’re here,”’ Bakay said.Allen and the prospect of adding Dahlin have recaptured his imagination as to what’s possible.”It’s like all of a sudden we’ve got go-big-or-go-home-talent coming our way,” Bakay said.He recalled how the Bills once pinned their hopes on quarterback Trent Edwards, who earned the nickname ”Captain Checkdown” for being overly cautious.”After years of the Trent Edwards of the world, we get a kid who has that kind of talent,” Bakay said.Maybe, he’ll finally be able to get off that couch.”I don’t think we need any kind of help of, `Can we believe?’ We can believe in a bag of doughnuts,” Bakay said. ”But that weekend was like, `Oh my god. Things are really happening. Pinch me.”’—This story has been corrected to note Tom Calderone is from Long Island, New York.

Long before I started writing for the Daily Norseman , I did a bit of dabbling in the science of psychiatry.Nothing official. No certificate from any college or anything like that. But, yeah, I did some reading - Skinner, Pavlov, Freud... that one other guy.I studied eastern philosophy, juxtaposed it with western values, judged it’s merits using my Northern Minnesota sensibility, and drank a lot of Southern Comfort.I even learned the finer points of palm reading and tarot cards. All in an effort to understand and help my fellow man.For a while, I set up a side-gig helping others help themselves.I felt that I was doing a service for people who weren’t quite in need of serious psychiatric help, but maybe needed a boost in self-confidence, or a little perspective in dark times.Kind of like a best friend would do if you found yourself in need of a pick-me-up.Not quite a life coach, not quite a counselor, but something along those lines.Sort of.Really, it’s a job that any good bartender could do.Somewhere in the last few weeks, word of my former dabbling apparently got out, and my inbox has begun filling up with strange requests for guidance.Today, my inbox absolutely exploded with people looking for help.Back in the day, every newspaper worth a nickle ran advice columns from the Friedman sisters, Pauline and Eppy - “Dear Abby” and “Ask Ann Landers”, respectively.Because I feel that my fellow DN’ers have shown time and again that they are a supportive, welcoming group, I’ve decided to share some of these calls for help and see if any of you good folks would be able to help.So Youth Harrison Smith Jersey , put your favorite nature sounds disc in the ol’ CD player, fire up the aromatherapy bubblers, put on some soft, comfy clothing, and let’s help these good people resolve their issues.Oh, and I’ve changed the names of the people who sent these requests - you know, to maintain their anonymity.Dear Mr. Burr,Everything IS going to be OK.Bullying manifests itself in many forms, and you were definitely bullied today.Shame on Josh for doing you that way.It doesn’t make you a bad person.Show him that you’re the bigger person, and just ignore him. You’ll probably never see him again, and if you do, he probably won’t even remember.Dear Jorge,I’ve never met the guy, but he seems like he’s a pretty good dude at heart.Maybe he forgot you’re on the team? You should knock on his office door right away in the morning - maybe bring him a pumpkin spice latte - and have a nice visit with him. Just a couple of friends having a chat.I’m positive that he’d appreciate it - really, who wouldn’t?You could talk about gardening, or nature, or the type of books you each like to read.Share some laughs! It’ll rekindle your friendship, and also give you a chance to get to know your coach on a non-football level. Hey Matthew,I can tell by the tone of your message that you’re really, really frustrated.First things first:let’s work on cutting down on the profanity.Profanity is the weak man’s language, and it sure doesn’t sound like you’re a weak man.Calm, soothing language will help you overcome your challenges Youth Anthony Barr Jersey , because change starts internally.Say it with me: “The referees are pretty nice people, and they have feelings and fears, and hopes and dreams, too.Just like me.”Maybe you could try hitting a different player?Freud might tell us that hitting the quarterback is just a substitute for something else.Be the best ‘you’ that you can be, and the rest will take care of itself.Dear BradSure I remember! And I’m glad to hear you’re in a better place. There’s nothing worse than putting maximum effort into a relationship - only to have your “partner” tell you they’ve found somebody new. There’s nothing that you can say or do that will make them change their mind and suddenly want you again, and chasing them will only break your heart more.At that point, it’s time to just get on with your own life.Stay strong, friend!By the way - you’re an inspiration to all of us who are nearing retirement age!Hey, 11If I could give you a hug through my internet connection, I would. It sounds like that’s what you need right now.So, huuuuuuuuggggzzzz!!! LOL!!But seriously, you are a special person.Even if you lived in a crate under the Stone Arch Bridge, you are a special person!Don’t let anyone take that from you, ever.In fact, think of the ball as your best friend! He’s coming at you, he’s coming at you, he’s coming aaaat you鈥?. And鈥? HUG!Give that little fella a BIG ol’ hug!The ball is your best friend and wants to spend more time with you! And every time you drop a pass, think of me giving you a big hug.Squeezing you tightly.Around the neck.Roland,If you can ask the question, you have to be prepared for any answer - even an uncomfortable one.Yes.You are being selfish. If you do your job strictly for the glory, you’ll forever set yourself up for disappointment.Try helping those around you achieve glory. And when they are successful, see how much they appreciate your efforts! There’s no “I” in “team” Youth Kirk Cousins Jersey , but there sure is a “me” in self-improvement”!Hey Curt,Happy to help.I’ll grab the cards and let you know what they say:Ahhh! The 8 of Cups, Reversed! Here’s what it means:You may be thinking about leaving a situation that seems as if it is no longer working. There is a need to stop and think about it a bit longer. You may not have given the situation enough time yet. It’s important to keep reminding yourself that good times lie ahead for you. Over 300 of those players will make their way on to practice squads across the National Football League. The Minnesota Vikings have had a great deal of success with players on the practice squad over the past few years. Players such as Adam Thielen and Marcus Sherels that just needed a little more time to develop got that time on the Vikings’ practice squad, and there’s always the hope that another practice squad player could develop in the same way. But how is the practice squad constructed? Who is eligible? Let’s take a look at all of that and more right here.Start Date and TimeTeams can start signing players to the practice squad on Sunday , 2 September, at noon Central time. There isn’t a particular time that they need to have the squad finished by, but players can’t officially sign practice squad deals until that time. Agents for players can start negotiating practice squad deals prior to that, obviously, but noon Central on Sunday is the earliest anything can become official.EligibilityObviously, not all of the players that were released today are eligible for the practice squad. More veteran players immediately become free agents upon their release and can sign with any team that wants to give them a deal.Of the ten players a team has on their practice squad, up to four of them can have as many as two “accrued seasons” of service in the NFL. An accrued season is a season in which a player was on an active NFL roster for at least six games. The other six spots, then, must be occupied by players with less than two accrued seasons of experience.A player is allowed on the practice squad for up to two years, with one year counting as six weeks in a season. A third year on the practice squad is only allowed if the team keeps 53 players on their active roster at all times (which every team does).Practice Squad SalaryPractice squad players earn paychecks on a weekly basis. Per the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement, the minimum salary for a practice squad player is $7,600 a week, which works out to just under $130,000 for an entire season. Teams can pay players on the practice squad more than that, and the Vikings have done that in the past. This makes players on the practice squad less susceptible to being “poached” by another team. Speaking of which. . .Changing TeamsA team can sign a player off of another team’s practice squad at any point, but they must sign them to their 53-man roster. They can’t sign a player from another team’s practice squad just to immediately place them on their own practice squad. The only time practice squad players can’t be signed to an active roster is when a team’s next opponent is simply trying to get information from them by signing them prior to a matchup.Practice squad players are prohibited from signing with the next opponent of their current team any less than five days before the game, or nine days during a bye week. If a practice squad player is signed to an active roster, they will receive a minimum of three weeks of paychecks, even if they’re released less than three weeks into their stay with that time. For more information about NFL practice squads, check out Article 33 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. We’ll definitely be keeping track of who the Vikings are signing to their practice squad over the next 24 hours or so. When we get word on who will make up the practice squad, we will have it right here for you.

LAS VEGAS (AP) Another game Arizona Coyotes Hats Authentic , another record for the Vegas Golden Knights.Alex Tuch scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period and the Vegas Golden Knights pulled away for a 7-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. The win moved the Golden Knights back atop the NHL standings with 84 points – a record for an expansion team in its inaugural season – one point ahead of Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay.Ryan Carpenter, William Karlsson, Reilly Smith, Luca Sbisa, Erik Haula and Cody Eakin also scored for Vegas, which improved to 23-4-2 at home to also set the record for home wins by a team in its inaugural season. It topped the previous mark set by the Gordie Howe-lead 1979-80 Whalers (22-12-6).Tuch also had an assist and his first fight of the season, giving him the so-called Gordie Howe hat trick.”I thought our whole team played really hard, we got production from all our lines and it was really good to see,” Tuch said. ”I just try to come in here and play hard … it was good to get my first fight. I wasn’t even thinking about the Gordie Howe part of it. We were all pretty high on emotions and everyone was going back and forth. I was getting a little physical and I think (Travis) Hamonic saw that, so we got into each other’s faces and he asked me if I wanted to fight.”Marc-Andre Fleury, starting his ninth straight game, made 28 saves for the Golden Knights, who rebounded from a loss on Monday to Pacific Division-rival Anaheim.”That’s what makes good teams, to be able to bounce back from bad games,” Fleury said. ”It’s good that we’re finding ways to put it behind us quickly and move on quickly and get ready for the next one.”Vegas is now 14-6 following a loss this season, outscoring teams 74-54 in those games.TJ Brodie Custom Arizona Coyotes Jerseys , Dougie Hamilton and Matthew Tkachuk scored for Calgary, which was 8-2-1 in its previous 11 road games. David Rittich finished with 19 saves. With the score tied 3-3 in the second, David Perron found a streaking Tuch, who beat Rittich from a nice angle and went top shelf to give the Golden Knights the lead for good with 6:02 remaining in the period.Early in the third, the Flames thought they had tied the game, but a challenge overturned Sean Monahan’s goal when Calgary was ruled offside.”It’s definitely a momentum swing when you think you tied the game up, and we scored shortly after that to go up by two goals, it’s a big difference in a hockey game,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said.Sbisa took Tuch’s pass and launched a one-timer past Rittich to make it 5-3 at 3:17. It was Sbisa’s 100th career point.Haula tipped in Sbisa’s slap shot from the point for his 23rd of the season with 8:45 remaining, and Eakin’s seventh made it 7-3 about three minutes later.”We just got outbattled in areas,” Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan said. ”We didn’t create as much offense, and in a game like this on the road you’ve got have a little bit more. We’ve a got a few guys that were cruising, and it’s not a time to cruise, it’s a time to push.”Carpenter gave Vegas a 1-0 lead 2 1/2 minutes in with his sixth goal in nine games, but Brodie’s fourth goal of the season tied it with 3:15 left in the first.Karlsson redirected Reilly Smith’s wrist shot to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead in the final minute, giving Vegas a power-play goal in 13 of its last 15 games.Hamilton tied it for Calgary just 20 seconds into the second period , but Smith put Vegas back ahead 3-2 about a minute later with his 20th.Tkachuk was credited with his 23rd when Vegas center Cody Eakin lost his stick and attempted to deflect a shot with his skate but tapped it past Fleury to tie the score with just under nine minutes left in the middle period.Calgary remains two points back of the final Western Conference wild card spot with 69.”That was frustrating, that loss, that’s a bad one that loss,” Tkachuk said. ”Definitely not coming at a good time, 21 games left.”NOTES: The seven goals tied the Golden Knights’ season high. … Vegas improved to 25-3-0 record when scoring the first goal of the game. Its .893 win percentage when scoring the opening goal leads the NHL. … Veteran forward James Neal, whose 24 goals rank second on the Golden Knights, missed his second consecutive game due to an illness he’s been battling for more than a week. … Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan coached the Las Vegas Wranglers for six years when they first joined the ECHL, leading them to five playoff berths, two division titles and one Kelly Cup final appearance. …UP NEXTCalgary: At Arizona on Thursday night.Vegas: Hosts Vancouver on Friday night. Jason Botterill has experienced both sides of the spectrum in confronting the challenges of building a competitive NHL team versus trying to sustain one.In Buffalo, the Sabres’ second-year general manager is attempting to rebuild from scratch a team in the midst of a franchise-worst, seven-year playoff drought. In his previous job as assistant GM in Pittsburgh, the test was keeping together a Sidney Crosby-led core of a team that became the first in nearly 20 years to repeat as Stanley Cup champions in 2016-17.Botterill noted the common denominator for both comes down to scouting.“You’re always searching for talent,” Botterill said. “So it gets back to the importance of finding players that are going to join your system.”Teams at the bottom need to stockpile young talent, and hope it eventually jells. The Sabres, for example, enter this season with the top new player to watch in 18-year-old defenseman Rasmus Dahlin Boston Bruins T-Shirts Authentic , the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft.Other rebuilding teams are counting on their youngsters to make immediate impacts. In Ottawa, the Senators are turning to rookie first-round pick Brady Tkachuk. In Vancouver, there’s center Elias Pettersson. The Carolina Hurricanes, meanwhile, are counting on forward Andrei Svechnikov, the No. 2 pick, to help a franchise snap a nine-season playoff drought — the NHL’s longest active streak. There’s pressure on the league’s elite, too.Winning teams lack the luxury of high draft picks, and are required to discover hidden gems in the draft and signing European and college free agents. As Penguins GM Jim Rutherford also noted, the NHL’s salary-cap system means successful teams have a more difficult time retaining their own talent.“You want to keep those players, but you can’t,” Rutherford said. “We went through it two years ago when we lost a bunch of real key players. There’s nothing to do about it. You can’t.”Valuable as they were, forward Chris Kunitz, goalie Marc Andre-Fleury, defensemen Eric Fehr and Ian Cole, and in this offseason’s case Boston Bruins Hoodies Authentic , forward Conor Sheary, were among the players the Penguins were unable to retain.Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman, who won nine Stanley Cup titles between three teams, said the salary cap makes it more difficult to maintain a contender, though it’s not all that different since winning his first championship with the 1973 Montreal Canadiens.“The challenge is you have to have players coming in the front door,” Bowman said. “When I was in Montreal, they had a slogan that was in the dressing room. It said ‘And the kids go marching on.’ That was 50 years ago, but it’s so much more now.”A list of some of the top newcomers (and one familiar returnee) to look out for this season:RASMUS DAHLIN, Buffalo Sabres defensemanHe’s a smooth-skating, heads-up play-making Swedish-born blue-liner, who has shown a fearless ability of jumping into the rush. Dahlin will require time to adapt to the smaller NHL ice surface and has shown signs of being a little too cavalier with the puck in committing turnovers. He is improving as a defender, and expected to quarterback the top power-play unit. The Sabres intend to allow Dahlin to learn from his mistakes in giving him plenty of playing time this year.ELIAS PETTERSSON, Vancouver Canucks centerWith Vancouver’s 2018 first-round draft pick defenseman Quinn Hughes committed to playing this season at Michigan, there’s plenty of buzz over Pettersson, the No. 5 overall pick in 2017. He’s coming off a season in which he helped Vaxjo win the Swedish Elite League championship and earned regular-season and playoff MVP honors.RYAN DONATO, Boston Bruins forwardAfter spending three seasons playing at Harvard for his father Boston Bruins Hats Authentic , former NHL player Ted Donato, the 22-year-old got a head start on his NHL career by scoring five goals and nine points in 12 games for the Bruins last season.WARREN FOEGELE, Carolina Hurricanes left wingThough the jury remains out as to whether Svechnikov will spend the entire season in Carolina, the Hurricanes are high on Foegele, their 2014 third-round pick.“He’s what we want in a Hurricane,” first-year coach Rod Brind’Amour told The Charlotte Observer this week. Foegele had two goals and an assist in his first two NHL games last season, and also finished second in AHL Charlotte with 28 goals as a rookie.BRADY TKACHUK, Ottawa Senators forwardSelected with the No. 4 pick in the draft, the son of former NHL star Keith Tkachuk is considered a key building block of a Senators team rebuilding from scratch. At 19, he overcame a slow start in his freshman year at Boston University to score eight goals and 31 points in 40 games. Ottawa’s youth movement also includes Colin White, a 2015 first-round pick, who had two goals and four assists in 21 NHL games last season.ILYA KOVALCHUK, Los Angeles Kings left wingHe’s back. After spending the past five seasons playing in the Kontinental Hockey League, the NHL’s 2001 No. 1 draft pick has returned to North America after signing a three-year contract with the Kings. At 35, Kovalchuk showed he’s not lost a step in splitting two Vegas defenseman and scoring his first preseason goal in a 7-2 loss last week. Kovalchuk has 417 goals and 816 points in 816 career games.

WASHINGTON (AP) Nicklas Backstrom did so well on faceoffs with an injured hand he even surprised himself.”It’s the playoffs Edmonton Oilers Hats Womens ,” Backstrom said after the Washington Capitals‘ 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night that evened the Eastern Conference final at two games apiece. ”You’ve just got to grind. It felt good on the first couple faceoffs, so I just kept taking them.”Returning from a four-game absence with a right hand injury, Backstrom won six of nine faceoffs and looked more like himself as the night wore on. With Game 5 looming Saturday night at Tampa Bay, Backstrom’s improvement is one of the keys to Washington bouncing back from consecutive home losses.”I should get back to normal,” Backstrom said after playing 18:51 night in his return. ”I feel really good. I don’t know (how normal) exactly. If I didn’t feel good, I wouldn’t play. The doctors wouldn’t let me play, either.”Team doctors cleared Backstrom to play around lunchtime, and by pregame warmups he was drawing an ovation from fans thrilled to see him back in the lineup. The crowd roared when Backstrom won the faceoff on his first shift Custom Edmonton Oilers Jerseys , and he got back into a rhythm centering the third line.”It was so fun to be back out there,” Backstrom said. ”It’s where everyone wants to be. You want to be on the ice. It’s just too bad we didn’t get the win.”A hard-luck loss included two penalties by fill-in No. 2 center Lars Eller, who has five in the past two games. Coach Barry Trotz didn’t mess with his top two lines, but Backstrom could easily be promoted to skate with Jakub Vrana and T.J. Oshie in Game 5.”We’re going to need him pushing forward, especially now that he has a game under him,” goaltender Braden Holtby said. ”He’ll take on more minutes and a bigger role. You could tell as the game went on he was getting more and more comfortable, so he’s going to be a much-needed asset for us in these next few games, for sure.”Backstrom appears ready to do that. The 30-year-old Swedish center hadn’t played since taking a slap shot from Pittsburgh’s Justin Schultz on May 5 , but if it were up to him, he would have been back much sooner.”Nick has been champing at the bit for a while now,” said Trotz, lauding Backstrom’s game. ”We’ve been holding him back a little bit, but he’s ready to go.”Even on a team featuring Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals have gone how Backstrom has gone for the better part of a decade. He’s the second-longest-tenured player on the team, and this was his first career game in the conference finals.”As a hockey player, you want to play Florida Panthers T-Shirts Womens ,” Backstrom said. ”It feels nice to be back.”— MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens are leaving teams behind — and trying not to get too far ahead of themselves.Brendan Gallagher scored with 11 seconds left to give the Montreal Canadiens their third straight victory, 3-2 over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.“I’m not proud of anything because it’s only six games,” coach Claude Julien said. “I’m glad with the way things are going but there’s no reason to get carried away with where we are right now. There’s still lots to accomplish. I could be proud of a lot of things, but I prefer being humble in these situations where things can change quickly.”Max Domi and Mike Reilly each scored their first goal of the season to help Montreal improve to 4-1-1. Carey Price made 23 saves for his second victory of the season after missing two games because of the flu.Gallagher tipped a loose puck past goalie Jake Allen after jumping on a bad giveaway by defenseman Colton Parayko in front of the net.“You obviously don’t expect it,” Gallagher said. “You have to be in the right spot. I thought Tuna (Tatar) did a good job to create the turnover and fortunately enough it ended up where I didn’t do that much. I just had to chip it in.”From the corner of the ice, Parayko whiffed on a pass and the puck went right to Tomas Tatar, who poked it to Gallagher at the side of the net.“It’s obviously a tough play. I feel bad for Colton,” Blues coach Mike Yeo said. “But we’re not playing well enough to win hockey games. And when you do that Florida Panthers Hoodies Womens , yeah, one play can be the difference. You don’t deserve to win if you only go out and play hard in the third period. We’re not playing 60 minutes.”Vince Dunn and Brayden Schenn scored for St. Louis, and Allen made 20 saves. The Blues dropped to 1-3-2.Just 39 seconds into the game, Domi put the home team in front with his first goal in a Canadiens uniform. On a 2-on-1 with Jonathan Drouin, Domi carried the puck from his own blue line before beating Allen with a backhand between the pads.Dunn tied it at 3:21 of the second period when his shot from the point beat Price through traffic.Reilly showed fancy stick work at the blue line to evade Brayden Schenn’s poke check before firing a wrist shot glove side past Allen on the power play at 7:42 of the second to give Montreal the 2-1 lead. The Canadiens gave St. Louis three power plays in the third period and the visitors capitalized on the last one.
