Giants 27 Authentic Rhett Ellison Jersey ,The New York Giants finally came away with their first win of the 2018 season. The team, both offense and defense, looked different from the versions we saw of them in the first two weeks of the season. The offense, with a reshuffled offensive line, came out and played more aggressively than we saw in the first two weeks of the season. The results were immediate, as the team marched down the field and scored a touchdown on their opening possession, and went on to score on each of their possessions in the first half. The defense, on the other hand, played in a manner we wouldn’t have expected from James Bettcher. Instead of the 3-4 defense many expect from him, they predominantly played out of a four-man front while calling more zone coverages than we had seen from a team built for man coverage. As is our tradition, let’s take a closer look at who played, how much, and some of the in-depth stats from the game and see what we can learn about the Giants’ first win of the Pat Shurmur era.Offense The Giants dominated the time of possession battle over the run-first Texans, holding the ball for 35 minutes, 30 seconds to the Texans’ 24 minutes 30 seconds. Never trailing after their first possession, the Giants were able to switch to a more methodical brand of offense in the second half, contributing to their advantage in time of possession, though they ran fewer plays than the Texans with 62 offensive snaps. Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard each played 59 of the 62 snaps, and provided most of the team’s offensive production through the air. Beckham caught 9 of 10 targets for 109 yards. As we have come to expect from Beckham, the superstar wide receiver did most of his damage with the ball in his hands, catching only one pass more than 10 yards down the field, and all but two passes traveled more than 7 yards in the air. The Giants also did a great job of moving Beckham around the offensive formation, catching passes from the left and right receiver positions, as well as both slot positions. Meanwhile, Shepard caught six of seven for 80 yards and a touchdown. The Giants moved Shepard around the formation as well, though they kept him in the sots. Shepard primarily did his damage over the middle of the field, though his two deeper crossing routes were notable. As has been noted many times before, Eli Manning was exceptionally efficient and precise with the football. He completed an impressive 25 of 29 passes, averaging better than 10 yards per reception. He spread the ball around well, hitting receivers all over the field, though most of his passes were within of 15 yards of the line of scrimmage. Manning did most of his damage in the middle of the field, though he was also effective passing to the right in the short and intermediate distances. Saquon Barkley didn’t play as large a share of the snaps as in previous games, notching 44 of 62 (71 percent). That might have been part of the game plan after he caught 14 passes for an ineffective 80 yards against the Cowboys, but he also suffered a bruised knee on the Giants’ first drive, and which likely also had an effect. Barkley ran to all sides of the offense, though most of his runs went between the tackles, to the left (7 attempts, 26 yards, 1 td) Barkley was also the Giants’ third leading receiver, catching five passes for 35 yards. Unlike the week two game, Barkley caught passes as a wide receiver as well as a running back, a tactic which helped to open up the defense for the rest of the offense, as well as converting a crucial first down on the Giants’ final drive. Finally Youth Kerry Wynn Jersey , tight end Rhett Ellison had perhaps his biggest game as a Giant. Ellison only caught three passes for 39 yards, but he scored a crucial touchdown and played 54 of 62 snaps. That was undoubtedly influenced by the injury to Evan Engram, who suffered a sprained MCL after just 13 plays. However, the two-tight end set seemed to be a part of the Giants’ game plan from the beginning. Ellison played an important role both as a chip blocker on J.J. Watt as well as (attempting) to block him one on one when the line slid protection the other way. Ellison doesn’t have anything like Engram’s athleticism, but hopefully he will be able to build on Sunday’s performance. Scott Simonson was the second tight end after Engram left the game, getting 16 snaps. Wide receiver Cody Latimer was only targeted twice, but he was on the field for 40 snaps. Perhaps his role in the offense will grow as time goes on.DefenseThe Giants’ starting secondary of Janoris Jenkins, B.W. Webb, Landon Collins, and Curtis Riley played all 68 snaps, as did linebacker Alec Ogletree. Perhaps as compensation to the loss of Eli Apple, or in an attempt to contain DeShaun Watson on the ground, the Giants’ played an uncharacteristic amount of zone coverage while the Texans were forced to play catch-up and throw the ball. As a result, Watson threw for 385 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with DeAndre Hopkins getting 6 receptions for 86 yards (14.3 yards per catch) and Will Fuller getting 101 yards on 5 catches. But while Houston was able to find success through the air, Watson was under duress for most of the game. For the first time this season, each of the Giants’ top pass rushers all averaged closer than league average on their rushes. The Giants played a surprising amount of 4-2-5 nickel packages against Houston. Surprising, because Houston came in to the game averaging an NFL-best 157.5 yards on the ground. It would make sense that any defense would want as strong a defense against the run as possible and play their base defense. The Giants, however, opted to play a smaller, faster defense — but it was still incredibly effective at stopping the run. They held the Texans to a mere 59 yards on the ground, just 25 of which came from running backs. Kareem Martin and Kerry Wynn lead the way, with Martin getting 51 of 68 snaps, largely as a defensive end, while Wynn had 44 snaps. As we have already talked about extensively, Wynnn had himself a game, notching 5 tackles, a pass defensed, and a forced fumble in an effort that would have been seen dominant if J.J. Watt hadn’t also played in the game. Damon Harrison and Dalvin Tomlinson rounded out the Giants’ most common defensive front, playing roughly half of the snaps, at 35 and 31 snaps, respectively. The two have proven to simply be a force in the middle of the Giants’ defense and are a big reason why teams simply can’t run up the middle on New York. Their short-area athleticism, play strength, and excellent understanding of leverage are trouble for any offensive line. First year Giants Lorenzo Carter, Mario Edwards Jr. (first year with the team, if not in the league), and B.J. Hill played 21, 24, and 14 snaps, respectively. Each player had an impact, however, and each came away with a sack. Impressively, Hill’s sack didn’t come as a defensive tackle Curtis Riley Jersey , but as a 4-3 defensive end, as he utterly overpowered the Texans’ left tackle. He very nearly had a second sack on the very next play, but Deshaun Watson just escaped and heaved the ball downfield, which was intercepted by Alec Ogletree. It wasn’t perfect, but the Giants finally played complementary football and breathed some life into their season. Just in time, as they play the New Orleans Saints next week.Pat Shurmur: Eli Manning “stays the course,” and other takeaways The day after his first victory as coach of the New York Giants, Pat Shurmur said he hopes the win was a game the Giants are able to build on.“I told our team if we just keep focusing on being a team and being tough and being gritty and caring, which means you work to get better, then I think we can build on this,” Shurmur said. Here are more takeaways from Shurmur’s Monday conference call.Eli Manning can take a punchShurmur once again expressed his belief in Manning, and explained why.“I believe in him, and our quarterback needs to know that we believe in him. We know that he’s got that in him,” Shurmur said. “The thing I like about Eli is, and I appreciate this about anybody, at some point in this game you don’t win all the time and at some point you take a punch. Eli can take ‘em and keep playing and I think that’s the thing that even before I knew Eli as much winning as he was involved with all those years I always admired the fact that he just stays the course and just keeps playing with the idea that tomorrow’s going to be a better day if today isn’t such a good one.”Toughness and gritShurmur was still talking about Manning when he said “toughness and grit” were the characteristics he thought were most important. It applies, though, to the entire team.“You can be smart, you can be well-dressed, you can be well-spoken but at the end of the day and it’s absolutely demanded in our sport is your ability to be tough and gritty,” Shurmur said. “Those are the attributes in people, especially in football players, that’s an absolute necessity in our business.”Chad WheelerShurmur said Wheeler “did a really good job in the run game” and took responsibility for leaving him 1-on-1 vs. J.J. Watt too often in pass protection. “He battled and in my opinion even though he got beat on a couple of snaps I thought he had a winning performance,” Shurmur said.Shutting out the noiseThat has been a consistent Shurmur message.“It’s an organizational message of just shutting out the noise. It’s equally important this week. I don’t read it, I don’t listen to it, and if I have to hear it or answer the questions to it it’s not something we concern ourselves with. The 0-2 and what 0-3 mean ... to their credit they (the players) shut all that out and they went out and played hard. That needs to be the approach every week. You’ve gotta turn your back on the pats on the back, too.”Saquon Barkley “Everything we thought he would be”Shurmur continued to be impressed by rookie running back Saquon Barkley.“He’s everything we thought he would be to this point,” Shurmur said. “He shows up on game day. When you see it up close and personal you see the way he’s into it and how competitive his spirit is and how he wants to compete and get the ball in his hands.“There’s a reason why he’s got a chance to be a really good player for a very long time.”The play of John GrecoVeteran offensive lineman John Greco, in his 11th NFL season and playing for Shurmur for the third team, did a quality job at center Sunday as he replaced the injured Jon Halapio. Shurmur said he thought Greco’s experience helped the offensive line.“I think there’s no substitute for experience, especially as an offensive lineman” Shurmur said. “The been there, done that idea is hugely important. That’s why veteran players, especially in the offensive line, can have an impact. Especially if they come in in a backup role or filling in for an injured player.”Kerry Wynn was “outstanding”Shurmur was as impressed by the veteran defensive end as everyone else seems to be.“He’s kind of a relentless player. He’s tough. He’s all the things you’re looking for — he’s tough, he cares, he works and he finds a way to make plays,” Shurmur said. “That was an outstanding performance on his part.”Injury updatesAside from Evan Engram’s knee injury, Shurmur said the Giants have “the normal kind of post-game stuff ... normal wear and tear.”Shurmur said he thinks the MCL sprain report on Engram is accurate, but adds “we’re waiting to see how extensive it might be.”Shurmur said Olivier Vernon, who has yet to play because of a high ankle sprain is “making progress. Vernon and Eli Apple (groin) are both day-to-day.

Authentic Kyle Juszczyk Jersey , things may be very different in Sunday’s rematch. The Cardinals fired OC Mike McCoy a week ago, and former QB Byron Leftwich will call his first game as their new offensive coordinator Sunday. So can we expect a radically different offense? No, we can’t. The plays and formations have all been installed for months. You can’t start all over mid-season, especially not with a rookie starting at quarterback. For that matter, Leftwich is pretty green himself (as a coach anyway; he was an NFL QB for 9 years, 2003-2012). Bruce Arians hired him as a coaching intern in May of2016 and made him the QB coach last year; in his entire life, he has only called plays for a couple of preseason games. This is a huge contrast with Arians, who had coached for 25 years before his NFL play-calling debut in 2001.So what might change under Leftwich’s watch?By all accounts — including Leftwich’s — we can expect him to bring back a lot of Arians’ approach, since he coached in that system and most of the team’s players are familiar with it. QB Rosen hilariously told reporters that Arians is “sort of a ghostly legend in this building here.” DUDE! He was the coach last year. You could just call him up and ask him questions, cause he’s old and those people still talk on phones. Arians, ever the hipster, told the Doug and Wolf program (on Phoenix’s 98.7 FM sports station) that he and Leftwich have “texted a bunch” since his protege was promoted last week.Bruce Arians is one of the great characters in the NFL. The guy wears a beret. He was in the Bear Bryant coaching tree. When he left after two years as Alabama’s Running Backs coach, the legendary HC gave him this advice: “Coach ‘em hard and hug ‘em later.”He also convinced Arians that coaches should go home at reasonable hours and spend time with their families. Here are some things that Leftwich will likely pick up from his mentor:1) “No risk it, no biscuit.”Arians loved to play aggressively, often calling deep shots in unusual situations (fourth-and-two, targeting a running back, for example). There are obviously deep passes in Mike McCoy’s playbook, but the problem for Leftwich is that Rosen is not a big arm guy, relying more on footwork and mechanics. Still, newly promoted safety D.J. Reed better spend Saturday studying all the Bruce Arians tape he can find.Robert Mays wrote a very interesting feature on top play-calling coaches last year, strangely omitting Kyle Shanahan. (Maybe he didn’t agree to be interviewed.) He notes that Bill Walsh invented the game-opening script, and that Arians scripted 30 plays each game, 15 runs and 15 passes. He brought about six deep shots to every game, four of them scripted. That’s more than one in four pass plays in his script.2) Free David Johnson! Speaking to Doug and Wolf, Arians himself mentioned RB David Johnson as a likely beneficiary of the change at OC. In 2016, before his injury , Johnson had 1,239 yards rushing and another 879 receiving. This year, in almost half a season, he has just 335 yards rushing — 3.2 yards per carry — and only 166 more through the air. Since he’s one of the team’s two best offensive weapons, that is not nearly enough.A lot of it is the Cardinals’ terrible offensive line, which was a problem for Arians too in his last two years. But McCoy was strikingly uncreative in scheming up ways to use Johnson’s talent. So linebackers, look out for those wheel routes!3) (and Larry Fitzgerald, while you’re at it.)The Cards’ star WR has 15,800 yards in his NFL career, but only 255 of those yards have come this year. That’s just 10 yards more than San Francisco fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who has 245 yards on 7 fewer receptions. Granted, Fitzgerald is 35 and not the player he once was, but he’ still one of Arizona’s top weapons and McCoy did nothing with him, Fitz had over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last 3 years so it’s unlikely he just fell off a cliff.Leftwich is making no secret of his plan to get Fitzgerald more involved.“Not dead yet”? That ought to motivate the future Hall of Famer. If Richard Sherman plays, it would be very interesting to see him cover Fitzgerald (if the matchups go that way). His height would be a plus, not to mention their long history against each other. While Mike McCoy was strikingly old-fashioned and ineffective in his play-calling, things won’t be easy for Leftwich, either. Johnson is coming off an injury that caused him to miss 15 games last year, and Fitzgerald is 35. There’s nothing he can do this season about those realities, or the terrible offensive line. And to be fair, Arians himself did poorly in 2016 and 2017, struggling to win 8 games after stellar seasons in 2013-2015, which was a big part of why he retired. So if he couldn’t figure out how to win with this personnel group, it’s hard to see how his ideas are going to make his much less experienced protegesuccessful. If nothing else, though White Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , a bit of that Bruce Arians swagger should make Sunday’s game more interesting, whoever ends up winning. I want to go to bed so bad right now after this awful, awful showing from the San Francisco 49ers. The beer tastes bad, the pizza is no longer tasty, and my Monday night is ruined. The good news, and only solace I can get out of any of this, is that I wound up playing not just George Kittle, Robbie Gould, AND Matt Breida, but Nick Mullens in fantasy. And wound up winning. How this happened I don’t know. Back to the Giants game. The offense had its issues, but the defense can. Not. Finish! It’s growing frustrating by the game. When there was a shot of Shanahan shaking his head, I just said, “Yep, he knows what’s about to happen.” We all knew what was about to happen. I don’t think we knew it would be because of rapid-fire laundry from the refs keeping the Giants on the field, but it happened. I do wonder a lot about the defense now. It desperately needs an edge rusher. Maybe that’s the piece. Who knows. Something needs to change. I’m so sick and tired of the elegant tank. I just want to win some games. Worst part is, the Giants have a quarterback in Eli Manning that was on the verge of being benched a week ago. “Overrated” they said. “Not as good” they said. Well, after tonight, his career has been saved. All it takes is a matchup against the 49ers to right that ship. I’ve had enough. Youth Dante Pettis Jersey , and line climbs quickly The San Francisco 49ers are traveling to face the Green Bay Packers this week on Monday Night Football, and both teams are scuffling along. The 49ers were lost to the Arizona Cardinals 28-18 in a game they dominated in the stat sheet, but trailed almost the entire game. The Packers lost 31-23 to the Detroit Lions, stumbling out of the gate and never able to get fully on track. The 49ers-Packers line opened at the Westgate sportsbook with the Packers installed as 7.5 point favorites. The line opened at 4:07 p.m. PT, right when the 49ers had cut the Cardinals lead to 14-12 and failed to convert the two-point conversion. The 49ers defense got a stop, but that was quickly followed by the Cardinals getting a strip sack and defensive touchdown to take a 21-12 lead.It is not surprising then that the line has been tumultuous in the 12+ hours since. The line quickly climbed as high as Packers -11. As of publication time on Monday, a few sportsbooks still sit at -11, while a few others are at -9.5.It’s interesting trying to figure this game out. Both fanbases are not particularly pleased at this point, but seemingly for different reasons. The Packers still have Aaron Rodgers out there, but they can’t do anything with consistency. Meanwhile, the 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo and Jerick McKinnon to torn ACLs, and now Matt Breida is banged up with an ankle sprain. The 49ers are 1-4 and in the cellar of the NFC West, while the Packers are 2-2-1 , tied with the Minnesota Vikings behind the 3-1 Chicago Bears. The Packers are still in the mix, but their fans are just not happy right now.If the line settles at 10.5 or 11 points, the 49ers are actually kind of tempting. Early betting is heavy on the Packers, which is not surprising given how the 49ers looked last week. But with the ability for turnover differential to potentially regress to a mean, there could be some value if this spread gets up above ten. Quarterbacks are lighting it up at a record-setting pace this season with 228 touchdown throws in the first month of the season.Case Keenum hasn't joined the party. The Denver Broncos' new quarterback has just three touchdown passes — none since the opener against Seattle — and his six interceptions are just one shy of the total he had last season in Minnesota.Keenum is the first Broncos QB since John Elway in 1986 to go three consecutive games with 20 throws and zero touchdowns."Is it a concern? Not really," coach Vance Joseph said Wednesday. "Our concern is winning football games. ... But Case is going to get better and better with time. We're figuring out who we are as an offense. It's a month into the season, I've been proud of how Case is playing."If Keenum throws a touchdown pass Sunday when the Broncos (2-2) visit the Jets (1-3), it'll be his first in 28 days."I don't care how we get into the end zone," Keenum said. "Obviously, I like throwing touchdowns. I like when those guys are running them in, too. We've got two great backs" in rookies Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay."They're doing a great job. But we've got a bunch of targets. Receivers, tight ends, they want to get into the end zone , too," Keenum said. "So, whatever it takes. I know the whole team is that way and whatever it takes to score more points than the other team, whether it's run or pass" is the goal. "But yeah, we'd love to get more passes going."Keenum would have had a fourth TD pass to go with his third fourth-quarter comeback for the Broncos had he connected with a wide-open Demaryius Thomas streaking down the sideline Monday night in the final seconds of Denver's 27-23 loss to the Chiefs in which they squandered a 10-point fourth-quarter lead.On third down from the Kansas City 28 with 22 seconds left, Keenum saw the cornerback jam Thomas, then release him to the safeties, both of whom were deep in the end zone.No linebacker to layer to throw over.No safeties to freeze with his eyes.No over-the-shoulder pinpoint pass needed.Just a basic delivery to his big receiver.Keenum stepped up and ... rifled it over Thomas' head .Keenum loved the play call by offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who's taken some heat for using three-receiver sets without a fullback or tight end on a three-and-out series sandwiched between Patrick Mahomes ' two TD drives that rallied the unbeaten Chiefs."It was a great play call by Bill, trying to take a shot at the end zone and they played two high safeties," Keenum said. "I threw it where I wanted to, just a little high. It was just a little bit off. And that's the game. It's a game of inches. Would I have liked to have that one back? Heck yeah. But I know we're going to make a lot more of those than we don't."So, I gave it my best shot and I can't lose anymore sleep over it White Adrian Colbert Jersey ," Keenum said. "We've got a lot more games to play. We've got a tough test this week. So, I've squashed it. I've learned from it. I've moved on."Being in all four games with a chance to pull out the win gives Keenum hope he can find his rhythm like he did in leading the Vikings to the NFC championship game last season."We haven't played our best football yet and we've had a chance to win every game," Keenum said. "... I'm excited where we're at. I'm even more excited where we're headed."MARSHALL's MOVEMENTThe Broncos and Brandon Marshall announced a $50,000 commitment to help launch the linebacker's FEEL (Feed and Educate to Empower Leaders) Movement in Denver. The initiative was announced 48 hours after Marshall and Thomas both stood with their teammates during "The Star-Spangled Banner" Monday night after staying inside during the national anthem for the first three games.Marshall, who followed the lead of his college teammate Colin Kaepernick in taking a knee during the national anthem in the past, said he and Thomas felt that they had made their point by continuing to draw attention to social injustice."The protest is just a symbol. The knee is just a symbol. It's not everything. The action, what we do in the community, that's everything," Marshall said. "I definitely think the knee was important to get everybody's attention, but more-so it's about what everyone's doing in the community."

back Le’Veon Bell before the end of the 2018 season. Bell had until Tuesday to report to the team White Arik Armstead Jersey , and chose to stay away. He had to report by Tuesday, and by not doing so, he is ineligible to play the rest of the season. The team confirmed the news shortly after the 1 p.m. PT deadline. The Steelers placed the franchise tag on Bell for the second consecutive year, and he said he would not play under it. The Steelers could franchise tag him again next offseason, but it would count as the third franchise tag, and thus count as the much higher QB salary. The Steelers could use the cheaper transition tag, but that means they would have right of first refusal on any contract, and get no draft pick compensation if he leaves.Every offseason brings some notable names to free agency, but Bell will be one of the biggest to hit the open market in recent memory. Kirk Cousins was one such option this past offseason, but for his position, Bell is considerably better than Cousins. Bell likely won’t get a fully guaranteed contract like Cousins (unless he signs a short-term deal), but he will be in line for a big pay day.The 49ers are one of the handful of teams with serious cap space next offseason, and were mentioned in odds content related to Bell. However, given the return of Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida’s breakthrough this season , the odds of the 49ers even pursuing Bell seem non-existent.It’s going to be an intriguing March once Bell does hit the market. He is being criticized by some for skipping out on $14.5 million, but he will not hit the market entirely healthy and without one extra year of tread on his tires. We’ve seen college players suffer in the draft after skipping their final year of college, but this is different. Bell is a proven commodity, and given how easily running backs can wear down, this makes a lot of sense in my mind. I don’t know if he’ll get the huge deal he thought he would get, but given the injury risk of playing this season, I don’t blame him for waiting this out to get to the market.Golden Nuggets: Injuries Abound Good morning folks, and a happy Thursday to you. Tonight's game to kick off the fifth week of the season is one that would've been an absolute thriller just a few years back - but just doesn't have the same "oomph" this year. The New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts are two teams led by great quarterbacks, yet both teams have struggled through the first quarter of the season. Of course, this game could conceivably end up a wild shoot-out, so I'd say it's worth at least keeping an eye on. Also, this game marks the first time former 49er and current Colts Special Teams Coordinator Bubba Ventrone's will against go the Patriots as a coach - after beginning both his playing and coaching career under Bill Belichick. As usual, Wednesday is injury report day - and the good news is absolutely dwarfed by the bad news. The good news is that Jaquiski Tartt is no longer limited, and is expected to play Sunday against the Cardinals. The bad news begins with Marquise Goodwin remaining limited - there's no telling when he might be back to 100%. Unfortunately Youth Jaquiski Tartt Jersey , thigh injuries tend to linger and are especially tough for players whose primary asset is speed.Worse yet is the news that Richard Sherman and Dante Pettis are completely out - and it looks like it'll be a while before they're back. Finally, we reach the pinncale of bad news - this week, only one starting offensive lineman was not listed in the injury report. Everyone other than Laken Tomlinson is dealing with something - some minor, some necessetating a few weeks' rest. The New Orleans Saints were a National Football League (NFL) expansion team in 1967 Authentic Evan Engram Jersey , the year after the league had placed a new club in Atlanta. The Saints got their franchise as a direct result of the merger between the NFL and the American Football League (AFL). After the two leagues had agreed to merge, they were not going to be able to get around the antitrust law sanctions. The House Majority Leader from Louisiana agreed to attach the exemption to a budget bill that was a certainty to pass in both the House and Senate. It passed and New Orleans got its expansion franchise. Here are some fun facts about the Saints, some of which have an attachment to the Giants. The first Saints’ player to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season was former first-round draft pick Chuck Muncie in 1979. Two years later, he would score 19 TDs in a single season for the San Diego Chargers.Former Giants’ wide receiver Don Herrmann played six seasons from 1969-1974 and then for the Saints from 1975-1977 before retiring. He became a Saint when Tom Blanchard, a former Giants punter, was already with the Saints and recommended they pick him up because they needed a receiver.Former Giants’ first-round pick TE Jeremy Shockey played three seasons for the Saints from 2008-2010 after the Giants traded him to New Orleans. Saints running back Mark Ingram’s dad was Mark Ingram - the former Giants’ wide receiver and Super Bowl Champion. In 1980, the head coach of the Saints was Dick Nolan, whose son Mike has been an NFL defensive coach since 1982 and was the San Francisco 49ers’ head coach from 2005-2008. He was defensive coordinator for the Giants from 1993-1996. Dick played for the Giants from 1959-1961 and ironically Mike is currently the LB coach for the Saints. That 1980 Saints squad went 1-15-0. Things got so bad that fans would still show up for games, however, with paper bags over their heads with the inscription “Ain’ts” on the bags. At one point the team was 0-14 until finally a 21-20 win over the New York Jets. The Saints home opener saw 58,621 enthusiastic fans whereas in Week 13 only 30,949 cared to show up – mostly in paper bags. The bag trend was started by Buddy Diliberto, a sports commentator at New Orleans TV station WDSU. Saints head coach Sean Payton has several ties to the Giants. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1997-1998 under former Giants’ wide receiver Ray Rhodes, he was the Giants offensive coordinator in 1999, and from there he went to the Dallas Cowboys as the assistant head coach under former Giants’ head coach Bill Parcells before landing the head gig in New Orleans. His three-game stats was 8 of 23 tosses for 79 yards, zero TDs and one INT, ironically against the Saints. Former Giants’ 1990 fifth-round draft pick QB Craig Kupp’s dad played offensive guard for the Saints. Kupp’s son Cooper is currently a wide receiver with the Los Angeles Rams. Trumpet player Al Hirt would play “When the Saints Go Marching In” every time the Saints scored a touchdown in the early years of Saints’ home games at Tulane Stadium. The NFL has played numerous games outside of the United States. But the very first was in Mexico City on August 5, 1978 between the Saints and the Eagles. The Saints were awarded an NFL expansion team on November 1, 1966, which just happened to be All-Saints Day. Giants’ QB Eli Manning’s dad, Archie, played for the Saints from 1971-1982. It was that experience of being a high-round draft choice awarded to a medium-market team that finished annually at the bottom of the standings that promoted Archie to insist that the San Diego Chargers not draft Eli with the first overall pick in the 2004 draft. The Saints are one of the few professional sports teams that have two mascots: Gumbo the Dog, and Sir Saint. The latter was the franchise’s first mascot who was canned and then later revived.Former Giants’ QB Kerry Collins played one year for the Saints in 1998 before his stint with New York. When the Saints were admitted into the NFL in 1967, they were awarded the first overall pick in the 1967 college draft. The Giants had finished dead last in the NFL standings the season before with a 1-12-1 record and would have had that first overall pick. The Saints then traded the pick to the Baltimore Colts who took DE Bubba Smith. Later, four future Hall of Famers were selected: QB Bob Griese, RB Floyd Little, DE Alan Page and OG Gene Upshaw. The Giants and Saints passed on all four players. For the first 20-years of existence the Saints failed to make the playoffs. In their 21st year of existence, they finally did in 1987 – with the aid of victories made by replacement players. In 1999 Saints’ head coach Mike Ditka traded all of his remaining draft picks to the Washington Redskins for the fifth overall pick in the first-round, and selected University of Texas RB Ricky Williams. The Saints also sent the following year’s first and third-round picks. Williams played only three seasons in New Orleans and failed to make the Pro Bowl. Several existing teams had looked at New Orleans as a possible new home to relocate their club, but none more than the Dallas Texans of the AFL in 1963. The Texans had just captured their first AFL title but weren’t happy in Dallas sharing it with the Cowboys, so they sought to move. The first location owner Lamar Hunt looked hard at was the Big Easy and wanted to move his Texans there. However Womens Connor Barwin Jersey , there was a huge problem for Hunt. The only stadium suitable for large crowds was Tulane Stadium – and that arena still allowed segregation and would not budge on this issue. So Hunt looked elsewhere and then took his team to Kansas City and renamed them the Chiefs. another big-time player in his arsenal moving forward.Speedy wide receiver Curtis Samuel Kerry Wynn Jersey , the team's second-round draft pick in 2017, returned to action Sunday after missing the first three games due to a minor heart procedure and made an immediate impact in the team's 33-31 win over the New York Giants .Samuel scored on a 25-yard catch-and-run reception in the first quarter in which he broke three tackles , and also had a key strip on a muffed Giants punt return as a gunner that resulted in a Carolina recovery in the end zone for touchdown ."He's always been a key asset for us since day one," Newton said of Samuel. "He may not understand his threshold of greatness. Today you saw it. A guy who is very slippery when he gets the ball, resilient when he's running, and shows you the capabilities that he has."Samuel's rookie season with Carolina was marred by injuries. He missed time in training camp with a hamstring injury and later, just as he was beginning to contribute on offense and special teams, broke his ankle causing him to miss the final seven games, including the team's playoff game against New Orleans. He gives the Panthers another deep threat along with rookie D.J. Moore."We have to get the ball in his hands as much as possible," Newton said of Samuel.Samuel agrees."When I touch the ball I don't feel like anybody can stop me ," Samuel said. "Just getting back in the groove, going back to what I was doing in college (at Ohio State), I feel like it's similar to me. My skillset hasn't changed, I can do all those types of things. I just got to show it at this level."Next week the Panthers will get back a big-time player on defense when outside linebacker Thomas Davis returns from a four-game suspension following a positive test for PEDs.Things we learned from the Panthers' 33-31 win over the Giants:MANNING CAN STILL DO ITThe Giants didn't win, but the much-maligned Eli Manning showed he can still perform in the clutch. Manning nearly had comeback win No. 36, putting the Giants up 31-30 with 1:08 to play on a 15-yard scoring strike to Saquon Barkley. That capped a four-play, 75-yard touchdown drive in which he completed all four pass attempts. "I did not need that drive to know about the magic of Eli Manning," Barkley said. "I knew about Eli before I got here, the way he worked, the way he played Rhett Ellison Jersey , how great he is as a leader, how smart he is."ADAMS CAN PLAY TOOWith so many eyes on Eric Reid's Panthers debut , it was team's other safety, 37-year-old safety Mike Adams, who picked off the 37-year-old Manning on consecutive plays in the second half. Panthers coach Ron Rivera called Adams a veteran guy who is a "calming, steadying force out there." Carolina's defense will have a challenge next week in Washington. Redskins quarterback Alex Smith entered this week's Monday night matchup with New Orleans with only one interception and four touchdowns.BECKHAM THROWS TDStrangely enough, Beckham got into the touchdown column with his arm before he did with his hands in 2018. After some controversial comments earlier in the week, Beckham ignited the Giants offense at just the right time by taking lateral from Manning on the left and heaving the ball to Barkley, who'd broken free on the right sideline. The 57-yard score was the longest pass play of the game. "It was a big lift, particularly when you're in a tight game and you have something good that happens Cheap Landon Collins Jersey ," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. "It jump-starts your team and emotions."RUNNING BARKLEYShurmur's plan to get Barkley more involved on the ground didn't produce the same type of spark, though. Barkley finished with more receiving yards (81) than rushing (48) and scored twice through the air. He was repeatedly corralled behind the line of scrimmage for negative yards, starting the game with five carries for minus-4 yards.GANO'S HISTORIC KICKThe NFL hasn't seen a 63-yard game-winning field goal like Graham Gano's since Nov. 8, 1970, when the Saints' Tom Dempsey hit what was then the longest field goal in league history to down the Lions 19-17. It was tied for the second-longest field goal in NFL history, second only behind Matt Prater, who converted a 64-yarder against Tennessee on Dec. 8, 2013.CAM ON THE RUNCarolina's running game wasn't as productive as it has been in the previous three games, held to 118 yards rushing — below the Panthers' season average of 166. A big reason is the Giants held quarterback Cam Newton to 29 yards on eight carries. Carolina will be tested coming up, facing two top-five rushing defenses in the Eagles and Redskins. While Newton didn't have a huge game on the ground Cheap B.J. Hill Jersey , he did come up with a huge pancake block on Giants defensive end Kareem Martin. Said Panthers coach Ron Rivera: "He is going to lay it out on the line and he is going to help this football team in any capacity he can."AP stringer Eli Pacheco contributed to this report. The Eagles have given some extra opportunities to some of their backup wide receivers in practice this week, but they weren’t catching passes from Carson Wentz.Head coach Dough Pederson said at his Friday press conference that shortfalls in the secondary led the team to use wideouts for scout team defense work. The situation didn’t get any better as the week progressed either.Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas, Avonte Maddox and Sidney Jones all remained out of practice on Friday and their chances of playing this weekend don’t look great as a result. With Ronald Darby done for the year with a torn ACL, the Eagles would be left with Chandon Sullivan, Cre’Von LeBlanc and DeVante Bausby as the options at cornerback against the Giants on Sunday. That’s not how you want to be lining up for a game under any circumstances and especially not when you’ve lost two straight games with any remaining hopes for the season slipping away in the process.

embarrassed by the Lions on Sunday Night Football. They’ve lost two straight games for the first time since 2015 , and they’re starting 1-2 for the first time since 2012. After the game, Bill Belichick said that they have to improve everywhere, and that’s definitely true. There are, however, some specific areas in which the team really needs to improve. Run DefenseThe Patriots have been completely unable to stop the run. This is surprising because I consider their front seven as a unit to be a strength. They have a ton of depth and talent on the defensive line, so there’s no reason why they should be getting pushed around like they have been. The blame goes to the line and the linebackers, who have been allowing huge cutback lanes for the backs in the last two weeks. Getting back Trey Flowers and Patrick Chung, who sometimes acts as another linebacker, will help, but the unit as a whole just needs to start playing better. Passing GameI’m not going to single out the receivers here. The whole unit has been very underwhelming. Tom Brady has yet to eclipse 300 yards passing in a game, and already has two interceptions in three games, which is uncharacteristic of him. Right now, there’s no one other than Rob Gronkowski that has any chance of beating man coverage. If I were playing the Patriots, I’d run man and double Gronk, and they’d never have a chance. This problem should be alleviated if Julian Edelman comes back the same player he was before his injury last season. And if Josh Gordon can get it together and actually be a factor, then this offense could really be dangerous. For me, it’s disappointing to find out that Phillip Dorsett and Chris Hogan are simply pieces that need better players around them to be successful. Play CallingThis is one that people have been bugged about for a while now. Some of the calls that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels makes are head scratching. He’ll call the same running play a few times in a row, whether or not it works. Then on 3rd and short with the offense struggling to get anything going Womens Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey , he’ll call a run off the guard that loses two yards. It just makes no sense at all. He’s certainly dialed up some great plays here, but it seems that he has a very hard time getting the offense going if it isn’t clicking. Not sure if this one is going to change, but I know I sure hope he’ll step his play calling up. SpeedThey say speed kills. Well, so does lack of speed. The Patriots have looked slow on offense and defense the past two weeks after looking solid against the Texans in the opener. There are certainly players banged up or suspended that will help when they come back, but the entire team looked to be moving in wet cement Sunday night. Dont’a Hightower in particular has looked like he’s lost a step, which would be a massive blow for a team that desperately needs a playmaker on defense. Sometimes, if you’re thinking too much and not just playing, you can play slower than you actually are. Let’s hope that’s what is going on here, and the coaching staff can figure it out. Because otherwise, it’s going to be a very long season, and the Patriots won’t be going far. There’s too much speed in the NFL, and AFC, for you to be able to compete without good team speed yourself. This week is as close to a must-win as you can have this early in the season. Lose and you’re 1-3 with 3 straight losses, and, more importantly, you’re down three games to the Dolphins. That absolutely cannot happen – so expect them to bounce back and play well. If we know their season is on the line, so do they, and you can bet the farm they won’t just roll over the way they have the last few weeks. von liny195 09.01.2019 03:03 , Dolphins ahead of Week 4 The Miami Dolphins are heading to Foxborough, and they’re packing some familiar faces along with them.Miami, standing atop the AFC East through three weeks of September, checks in with four former New England Patriots in the 53-man fold entering Sunday. And two of whom were 1,400 miles away as recently this spring and summer. But there are also a few ex-Dolphins to account for between the active roster, practice squad and injured reserve of New England. Here’s a glance through the roster connections leading up to the 1 p.m. ET divisional kickoff at Gillette Stadium.MIAMIBrandon Bolden, running back – Undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2012, Bolden would go on to accrue 686 snaps on offense and 1,400 snaps on special teams over the course of his Patriots tenure. A “four-down player,” as Patriots head coach often described him, Bolden appeared in 83 games through his six regular seasons with New England. He tacked on 15 playoff games and a pair of Super Bowl rings, as well. But the longest-tenured Patriots running back was released during September’s cutdown for the second consecutive year. And this time, Bolden elected to go south, signing a one-year, $790,000 contract with the Dolphins. The 28-year-old has been in for 70 percent of the snaps in Miami’s kicking game thus far into 2018.Danny Amendola , wide receiver – By way of the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams, Amendola signed a five-year pact with the Patriots in March 2013. A trio of restructures would arrive by 2017, but so would 57 career playoff receptions for 709 yards and six touchdowns, in addition to 106 yards on punt returns and another 213 on kick returns. “To me, he’s uncoverable,” Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said last fall. “You turn on the tape, he’s getting away from people no matter what the route, no matter who’s on him, no matter what’s called, leverage, distance – he’s just been so great for us ...” Amendola joined the Dolphins on a two-year, $12 million contract as free agency opened. He’s caught 11 of the 13 passes sent his direction for 100 yards to this point.AJ Derby, tight end – The converted QB via Iowa, Coffeyville Community College and Arkansas was selected by New England in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. Derby spent his rookie season with the Patriots on injured reserve, but entered into four games in his second season before being traded to the Denver Broncos in exchange for pick No. 163 overall in the 2017 draft. That pick would eventually be redistributed for restricted free-agent running back Mike Gillislee. As for Derby Womens Stephon Gilmore Jersey , he would eventually be claimed off waivers by Miami. The tight end has caught two passes over the past two weeks for 35 yards and his third career touchdown.Ted Larsen, guard – A Patriots sixth-round pick out of North Carolina State in 2010, Larsen was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of his inaugural NFL preseason. He has made additional stops with the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears and penned a three-year deal with the Dolphins in March 2017. Larsen has started 10 of his 11 appearances for Miami since then. The center-slash-guard has started 75 career games.NEW ENGLANDChris Hogan, wide receiver – The nickname “7-Eleven” has been retired, but it had to start somewhere. And, as chronicled on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” six summers ago, that somewhere was Miami. Hogan signed with the Dolphins’ practice squad late in 2011 season, and after a four-catch preseason, returned for the initial week of the 2012 campaign. He’d move on to the Buffalo Bills and was signed by the Patriots as a restricted free agent in 2016. Hogan has caught 79 passes for 1,203 yards and 11 touchdowns in regular-season action for New England. The wideout has logged two 100-yard games through the Patriots’ last two playoff runs.Eric Smith, offensive tackle – Smith, who signed to the Patriots’ practice squad after Labor Day weekend, originally entered the league as a Dolphins undrafted free agent in 2017. The Virginia product began his rookie year on Miami’s 53-man roster and returned to it after a stint on injured reserve, but did not make his regular-season debut. The Dolphins waived Smith ahead of the Sept. 1 cutdown deadline.Ulrick John, offensive tackle – Residing on New England’s injured reserve after suffering a foot injury that required surgery in the preseason finale Youth Danny Shelton Jersey , John spent parts of two years with Miami. The 2014 Indianapolis Colts seventh-rounder was claimed by the Dolphins on Halloween 2015 and appeared in two contests. John began 2016 on the team’s practice squad before joining the Cardinals and later the Green Bay Packers. The Patriots signed the 26-year-old tackle this April.Week 5 Patriots vs Colts inactives: New England at near-full strength, Rob Gronkowski active In a little more over 90 minutes, the New England Patriots will play their fifth game of the season. And as opposed to their opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, the team will be in solid physical shape – a look at the Patriots’ list of inactive players confirms that:Patriots inactivesThe Patriots’ inactives list shows one thing: with the exception of cornerback Eric Rowe and defensive edge Geneo Grissom, the team is at full strength: six of the eight players listed as questionable on yesterday’s final injury report are active – a group consisting of tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Jacob Hollister, wide receiver Josh Gordon, defensive tackles Adam Butler and Danny Shelton, and linebacker Elandon Roberts. All five will play considerable snaps today, as will another active player – one returning to the field: wide receiver Julian Edelman was activated before the game and will suit up tonight.Colts inactivesThe Colts’ inactives were already known before today: the team declared seven players out on its final injury report yesterday to already reach the 46-man game day limit. Among the inactives are starters T.Y. Hilton, Jack Doyle and Kenny Moore II.[UPDATE, 10/04, 7:00 p.m. ET] According to the Colts, two active players will not dress tonight: linebacker Darius Leonard and cornerback Nate Hairston are effectively joining the inactives. Both are starters on Indianapolis’ defense and missed only one combined snap over the first four weeks of the season.

When it was all said and done, the Patriots had only three wideouts on the team alongside special teamer and he of one career reception in 10 NFL seasons Matthew Slater: Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson. It is therefore safe to say that the position will likely see at least one addition today. Let’s take a look at five potential targets, that are currently on the open market:Braxton MillerAfter a standout career as a dual-threat quarterback at Ohio State, Braxton Miller was converted to wide receiver in the pros. Despite receiving plenty of opportunities, however, he was never quite able to make the transition appear fully natural. As a result, the Houston Texans released their former third-round draft pick yesterday. Given his outstanding athleticism, it would not be a surprise to see Miller get claimed – but if he does not, New England might take a look at him as a potential depth piece.Leonte CarrooLike Miller, Leonte Carroo was selected in the third round of the 2016 draft. And just like the former quarterback Cheap Rob Gronkowski Jersey , he failed to live up to expectations at the next level. The Rutgers product saw only marginal playing time in his first two years with the Miami Dolphins and registered a mere 10 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown. Bringing solid size to the table, the 24-year old could benefit from a change of scenery and playing in a different system.Jehu ChessonOne of the mild surprises of yesterday’s roster cutdowns, the Kansas City Chiefs elected to move on from Jehu Chesson after only one season with the team – and after trading up to get him in the third round of the 2017 draft. However, the Michigan product had a relatively quiet preseason and was therefore unable to win one of the depth spots on the Chiefs’ roster. While Chesson would not be the flashiest of pickups, he would add positional versatility given his experience as a punt and kickoff returner.Daniel BravermanPrimarily a slot receiver in the mold of Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, Daniel Braverman is another wide receiver that failed to make Kansas City’s initial 53-man squad. The former Chicago Bears seventh-round draft pick was quiet during his first training camp and preseason with the team and failed to establish himself as a regular presence on offense or special teams. However, he might be an interesting depth addition to the Patriots’ roster – especially with Julian Edelman missing the first four games of the year.Kendall WrightOne of the most productive players to get released this weekend, Kendall Wright brings plenty of experience to the table: he has appeared in 82 games over the course of his career and caught 339 passes for 3,858 yards and 19 touchdowns. However, Wright never lived up to his status as a former first-round draft pick and was cut by his third team in the last three years yesterday. Maybe playing on a team with a stable quarterback situation could help him finally live up to his potential.Ultimately, the Patriots will only go for the waiver wire or free market to add a wide receiver if they feel confident that the player targeted could contribute immediately. Otherwise, it would not be a surprise to see the team try to swing a trade to bring in more experienced and proven options than the five above.

The Cleveland Browns added five players to the roster on Sunday via waivers Womens JC Tretter Jersey , including defensive tackle Ifeadi Odenigbo. A seventh-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft, Odenigbo spent his rookie season on the Vikings practice squad. He led the Big Ten in sacks with 10 as a senior at Northwestern, and finished his collegiate career with 23.5 sacks, good for second on the school’s all-time list. The Vikings originally tried him at defensive end, but he spent training camp and the preseason playing at defensive tackle. The Minnesota coaches believed the switch was the best for the 6-foot-3 and 275-pound Odenigbo, but the move took some adjusting to, as Odenigbo told spent time in the preseason with the Vikings second-team defense, recording 11 tackles and two sacks Youth Larry Ogunjobi Jersey , and was a bit of a surprise cut by Minnesota. With the release of Jamie Meder and Caleb Brantley, those three will be battling for playing time behind starters Larry Ogunjobi and Trevon Coley.Recap: Episode 3 of Cleveland Browns on HBO’s Hard Knocks The third episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, featuring the Cleveland Browns, took place Tuesday night. Paisley asked GM John Dorsey if Mayfield reminded him of a Brett Favre, to which Dorsey said he understands why people see those attributes in him, but that that association has to be earned. WR Jarvis Landry said he was a Paisley fan Womens Kevin Zeitler Jersey , and then the money part of the segment came when defensive coordinator Gregg Williams met him.Players Digging Baker MayfieldThe segment about QB Tyrod Taylor was about how to pronounce his name, which we’ve heard about to death now. Their 0-4 start is the Cardinals' worst since 1986 , two years before the franchise moved to the desert from St. Louis. There were many bad teams in the intervening years but all managed to win one early.Still, there is a sense of optimism as the team prepares to face the 49ers in San Francisco, and it all stems from the performance of Josh Rosen in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks."I thought he played well. I thought he gave us every opportunity for us to win that football game," Arizona coach Steve Wilks said at his Monday news conference. "Very poised, a great leader, put the ball where it needed to be. Great accuracy, good arm strength. And I loved the way he just commanded the offense and the way we went down the field sometimes."Rosen, in his first NFL start, completed 15 of 27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. The numbers should have been better because five passes were dropped. Two were by Larry Fitzgerald, difficult catches but ones he usually makes. And there was one apiece by Ricky Seals-Jones White Darren Fells Jersey , Christian Kirk and J.J. Nelson.Nelson was behind the secondary and headed for a score with a long pass when it slipped through his fingers, costing at least 40 yards if not a touchdown. But Rosen encouraged his receivers through the difficulties."I mean, the other alternative is all bad, so you might as well keep pushing on," he said after the game. "Trying to encourage everyone, if something happens bad, let's get better, and if something happens good let's keep going. So, that's kind of how sports work, is you just kind of always have to have a positive attitude."Fitzgerald loved what he saw from the 19th quarterback to complete a pass to him in his 15 seasons."He's got great huddle composure and demand. He's got everybody's full attention ," said Fitzgerald, who is slowed by a sore hamstring. "You look in his eyes and he's ready for the task. It was great to see him come out and perform and to do some of the things he did, like I said, skill positions, we didn't help him. The balls were where they were supposed to be and that's encouraging."Wilks admired Rosen's accuracy."When you look at some of the throws, particularly the two to Ricky late in the game — tight windows, very impressive," Wilks said. "when you look at a rookie being able to make those kinds of throws in that particular situation I thought was very impressive."Rosen, Wilks said, "gave us a spark that we needed. I'm disappointed we just couldn't finish yesterday."Arizona also was able to get a little more from David Johnson Youth Denzel Ward Jersey , with the big running back lining up at wide receiver a few times. He finished with 112 yards from scrimmage, 71 rushing and 41 receiving. But there were enough problems on offense and defense to lead to another loss, culminating with Phil Dawson's missed 45-yard field goal with 1:50 to play and Seattle's late drive for the game-winning field goal.So how does the team dig out of this 0-4 start?"I keep going back to Josh, I'm just so encouraged based off of what I saw yesterday," Wilks said. "I think you guys saw the potential of pushing the ball down the field, which we haven't had in the first three weeks of the season. We've got to finish now. Those guys are wide open; they've got to make those catches."His ability to get outside of the pocket and buy time on the sprint outs and the boots and to move the pocket, if we are having some issues as far as protection, I think we can help him out a little bit there. Then you saw the glimpse of David and the things that he can do as far as moving him around. I think our offense is getting ready to flourish."Notes: Wilks said he expects Andre Smith to be back at starting right tackle. Smith has missed the last three games with an elbow injury. ... Emmanuel Ogbah on Sunday when they face the New Orleans Saints. Ogbah will miss the game with an ankle sprain he suffered late in the first quarter of the Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Ogbah came back in that game , he was limited to just 27 games and was spotted at team headquarters on Monday in a walking boot.As if that was not enough, starting linebacker Christian Kirksey is questionable as he works his way through shoulder and ankle injuries: Kirksey has not missed a game in his NFL career, so it would be surprising if he is not on the field come kickoff on Sunday. The Browns will turn to defensive end Chris Smith, signed in the offseason as a free agent from the Cincinnati Bengals, and Anthony Zettel, claimed off waivers from the Detroit Lions prior to the season opener, in Ogbah’s absence. It should also open up additional pass rushing opportunities for rookie linebacker Genard Avery.Fortunately for the Browns and Ogbah, the third-year defensive end avoided a high-ankle sprain, which would have landed him on the sidelines for multiple weeks. However, with the Browns following up the game against the Saints with a home game against the New York Jets on September 20 - just four days later - it is a distinct possibility that Ogbah will not return to the field until the September 30 game against the Oakland Raiders. It’s disappointing to think of Ogbah missing a pair of games, but if it helps him be healthy for the rest of the season that would help ease the pain.FanPulse: 97% of Browns fans are very or somewhat confident in direction of team Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse , a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Browns fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse. If you recall, a couple weeks ago, we asked our readers to join FanPulse, so you can weigh in on the direction of the team each week. For those who are apprehensive about signing up, the poll literally took me 20 seconds to answer all 3 questions presented this week. The answers everyone provided in the Week 1 poll are below! Will the Browns win or lose in Week 1?The Steelers are currently favored by 4.5 points, but Browns fans think Cleveland will win by a field goal. If that’s the case, then you should definitely bet the spread this weekend.I will post my official prediction for the game on Saturday. Given all of the positive press the Browns have received this offseason, how they were portrayed on Hard Knocks, and how the Steelers will be without Le’Veon Bell , I’m a little surprised the optimism didn’t extend to beyond 3 points. However, I do have to keep reminding myself that Pittsburgh was a 13-3 team in 2017.Photo by Jason Miller/Getty ImagesHow confident are you in the direction of the team?Very confident: 48 percentSomewhat confident: 49 percentMeh: 1 percentNot very confident: 1 percentNot confident at all: 0 percent—Fans are certainly in favor of the franchise right now, but their record is 0-0. If they start off 0-2 against the Steelers and Saints, how quickly will things turn south because Hue Jackson is still in charge? What is the worst NFL rule? This is the one poll asked to Browns fans that actually ended up being aggregated across all 32 sites. My first instinct was to vote for the helmet rule, but then I thought about it, and I don’t actually think it will be flagged very often during the regular season. I voted for the “fumbling out of bounds in end zone results in a turnover” rule. That always drives me nuts — why not just put the ball back to the 1 or 2 yard line, or wherever the ball was fumbled at? It just deflates a whole drive, and not in a “oh, the defense deserved that reward” type of way.

PITTSBURGH -- Just as Gerrit Cole got back to his winning ways, he ran into the Cincinnati Reds. Cheap Jordan 11 Space Jam For Sale .Cole had a two-start winning streak snapped and fell to 0-6 career against the Reds in the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 loss on Sunday.Coles consecutive victories followed a six-start winless skid. He allowed four runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings Sunday after limiting opponents to three earned runs total over his previous three starts (20 innings).Brandon Phillips chased Cole (7-7) with an RBI single in the sixth that gave Cincinnati a 4-1 lead.Cole was also frustrated by Billy Hamilton, who stole four bases and scored three times. It comes down to putting guys on the ground and getting efficient outs, Cole said. Youre not going to be able to stop Hamilton every time, but a walk to start off the game is pretty much a triple within four or five pitches. Thats not going to get the job done.Hamilton had three hits and reached safely four times in five at-bats. The center fielder has stolen 43 bases this season, tied with Jonathan Villar for the major league lead.He is arguably the most dynamic baserunner in the National League, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. He steals third more than anybody. Hes looking to go just about every pitch.Hamilton had three steals and two runs in the first three innings while the Reds staked starter Dan Straily to a 3-0 lead.My job is to get on base and get into scoring position for these guys behind me to drive me in, Hamilton said. Thats my job. I felt like I did my job. After walking to lead off the first, Hamilton stole second before taking third one batter later. Left fielder Adam Duvall drove him in and advanced Joey Votto, who walked in the previous at-bat, with a groundout to third base. Phillips singled to score Votto for a 2-0 lead.Hamilton doubled to right two innings later before stealing third a second time, and Votto pushed the Reds advantage to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly.Hamiltons electric day wasnt exclusive to his work on the base paths.Pirates catcher Eric Fryer crushed a ball to center field that turned Hamilton around twice. He recovered to make a leaping backhanded catch that earned applause from the Pittsburgh crowd.Through all the challenges that hes had offensively, the defense has kept him in the big leagues, to be honest, more so than the stolen bases, Reds manager Bryan Price said.Following Hamiltons leaping grab, Straily emphatically pounded his glove while pointing back to his center fielder.I have never seen anything like him, Straily said. That ball, it started off over one of his shoulders, kind of knuckled back. It was pretty impressive from where I was standing, very much appreciated. I hung a slider. He hit the ball well. I was very fortunate.Straily (7-6) surrendered two earned runs and three hits in six innings pitched. The right-hander took a no-hit bid into the fifth, until Matt Joyce drove the third pitch of his leadoff at-bat 442 feet to center and made it 3-1 with his 12th home run.Josh Harrison hit Pittsburghs second home run in an inning later to make it 4-2.TRAINERS ROOMPirates: 3B David Freese did not play Sunday after leaving Pittsburghs game against Cincinnati in the sixth inning on Saturday due to left elbow discomfort.UP NEXTPirates: RHP Chad Kuhl (1-0, 4.19) will make his first start for Pittsburgh since July 17 on Tuesday, when he faces the San Diego Padres at PNC Park. CHASKA, Minn. -- While play hasnt officially started yet at the Ryder Cup (that comes Friday), there have still been plenty of happenings on the Hazeltine course. Here are a few things you might have missed Thursday:Jedi putt tricks? There are ominous signs, and then theres what happened on the eighth hole Thursday afternoon. After Andy Sullivan of the European team tried unsuccessfully four times to make a 12-foot putt, Rory McIlroy attempted to show him the line -- and he twice missed, too. Thats when David Johnson, a fan in the gallery from North Dakota, offered to show em how to do it.Henrik Stenson pulled Johnson out of the crowd, and then Justin Rose laid a $100 bill on the ground next to his ball, just to increase the pressure. As the crowd grew silent, Johnson rammed his putt into the back of the hole and punctuated it with a celebration that looked like hed just won the Ryder Cup itself. And hey, maybe he destroyed the Europeans confidence just enough that it did the trick. If nothing else, it was definitely an ominous sign for Team Europe. -- Jason SobelRyder Cup 2016: Complete schedule, rosters and formatThe suits have spoken!Even guys wearing Union Jack suits, rooting for the European team, are not fans of Masters champion Danny Willetts brother, Pete, who made disparaging comments about American golf fans.Pete Willett referred to U.S. golf fans as cretins and dim Yanks, as well as a baying mob of imbeciles and a giggling group of reprobates.Hes an idiot, and you can quote me on that, said the man second from the right in this picture:Danny Willett responded to Petes comments, telling Golf Channel this week: Id just like to apologize, obviously, to everyone involved for whats been said. Its obviously not the thoughts of myself and of the team and of captain Darren [Clarke]. -- Michael CollinsNot those shirts again!Ran into three guys -- Joey Burton, Brad Glogowski and Shea Connolly -- at the Ryder Cup. Why did they decide to wear the ugliest shirts in the history of the Ryder Cup? Because they are the uniforms from the 1999 matches, when the Americans maade their largest comeback in Cup history. A little karma from that epic rally at Brookline couldnt hurt, right? What might be more amazing is that someone had to seek those designs out, get them made, and actually pay cold, hard cash for them. Style is cyclical, but one can only hope this never comes back into fashion. -- Kevin MaguireThe numbers dont ... tell the whole storyJust how evenly matched are the United States and Europe in the Ryder Cup? In the 18 competitions held since 1979 -- the first year Team Europe was expanded to include all Western European nations beyond just Great Britain and Ireland -- 39 percent of the matches have gone to the 18th hole. Thats 196 times out of 501 matches.?So while Team Europe has obviously dominated the United States recently, winning eight of the past 10 Ryder Cups, it hasnt been quite the blowout the results might suggest. If the Americans had simply played better on one hole, particularly in matches that came to 18 with the teams all square, history might look a lot different.?Interestingly, statistics show the hole that is second-most likely to decide a match is the 16th (20.8 percent of matches end there), and that trend should continue this week at Hazeltine. The 16th at Hazeltine National this week is normally the seventh hole, and when the PGA Championship was played here in 2009, that was still true.?But the 572-yard dogleg par-5 is clearly one of the best risk-reward holes on the course (there is a pond left of the green), and partially for that reason, the course was rerouted so it could play as the 16th. Its also one of the best holes on the course for spectators, and there could be as many as 20,000 people lining both sides of the fairway as matches come to a close.?Now picture Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson going for the green in two with a match on the line. If youre looking for drama and excitement this week, Hole 16 is a great stage for both. -- Kevin Van Valkenburg Wholesale China Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale Authentic Jerseys Nike NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Nike Basketball Jerseys Hockey Jerseys China Supply Baseball Jerseys Football Jerseys Sale Authentic College Jerseys MLB Jerseys China Stitched Soccer Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap Nike Jerseys ' ' '
