College football is off to a roaring start, with a Kickoff Week for the ages and a Week 5 that . http://www.broncosrookiestore.com/Bronco...Simmons-Jersey/ ... well, its one for the ages too. Week 5 is the first time since 1978 that weve had three conference matchups of top-10 teams and the first time since 2002 that weve seen three top-10 games of any kind on the same Saturday. That means a slew of stars will collide on the field this Saturday. What better time to reboot our preseason #CFBrank and see how our experts assess the nations best players after the first month of the season? We asked 10 writers to grade players from across the country on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best early season performance possible. We ended up with a clear No. 1 player, a guy who has scored 25 touchdowns in four games and netted 10 perfect 10 scores from our panel. After Louisvilles breakout Lamar Jackson, though, things got interesting. Here are our top 50 players after four weeks.Lamar Jackson Louisville Cardinals Sophomore | Quarterback Score: 10.0 Preseason rank: 51Jackson has scored 25 total touchdowns this year (13 passing, 12 rushing), emerging as a top Heisman candidate through four games. He has more touchdowns than 123 FBS teams. -- Andrea AdelsonChristian McCaffrey Stanford Cardinal Junior | Running back Score: 9.6 Preseason rank: 3Through three games (the Cardinal had a Week 2 bye), McCaffrey is leading the Pac-12 with an average of 145.3 rushing yards per game. With three rushing touchdowns and a fourth receiving TD, hes the centerpiece of the offense in the run and pass game, with a team-high 12 catches for 119 yards. -- Kevin GemmellMyles Garrett Texas A&M Aggies Junior | Defensive lineman Score: 9.5 Preseason rank: 5The junior defensive end is off to a solid start pressuring the passer this season. He has picked up three sacks, five tackles for loss and six quarterback hurries in the Aggies first four games. --Sam Khan Jr.Jabrill Peppers Michigan Wolverines Junior | Linebacker Score: 9.4 Preseason rank: 9Michigan players have run out of adjectives for the versatile sophomore linebacker. Whenever he wows the team now, they just turn to one another and say, Jabrill is really good at football. With the most tackles for loss and punt return yards in the nation through four weeks, Peppers teammates have had a lot of reasons to say that recently. -- Dan MurphyJ.T. Barrett Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Quarterback Score: 9.3 Preseason rank: 12Completely healthy and unchallenged as the starter, Barrett is again breaking records while leading Ohio States high-octane offense. With 10 touchdown passes already, its just a matter of time before he becomes the most prolific passer in the schools storied history. -- Austin WardJonathan Allen Alabama Crimson Tide Senior | Defensive lineman? Score: 9.2 Preseason rank: 15Coming back for another season seems like a risk worth taking, now that Allen is playing even better than he did the past season. Not only has he continued to play well against the run, but he has also already tallied three sacks and four quarterback hurries. -- Alex ScarboroughArden Key LSU Tigers Sophomore | Defensive end Score: 9.1 Preseason rank: 60Key said before the season that he wants to record 20 sacks this season, and we laughed. Maybe it wasnt so funny after all. The LSU sophomore leads the SEC with 6.5 sacks through four games, so hes right on pace. -- David ChingGreg Ward Jr. Houston Cougars Senior | Quarterback Score: 9.05 Preseason rank: 27Ward has been the catalyst for Houstons high-powered offense that has the No. 6 Cougars at 4-0, starting with an upset of Oklahoma. He has thrown for five TDs and run for three more so far this season.Derwin James Florida State Seminoles Sophomore | Defensive back Score: 9.0 Preseason rank: 16James got hurt in Week 2 against Charleston Southern, and his absence has made it abundantly clear how valuable he is. Without him, the Seminoles struggled defensively against Louisville and USF. -- Andrea AdelsonDerek Barnett Tennessee Volunteers Junior | Defensive end Score: 8.95 Preseason rank: 23His typical sack total isnt there yet, but Barnett has been a regular presence in opponents backfields. The Tennessee defensive end ranks fourth in the SEC with six tackles for loss and is always priority No. 1 for opposing tackles. -- David ChingDeMarcus Walker Florida State Seminoles Senior | Defensive end Score: 8.9 Preseason rank: 61Walker is tied for the ACC lead with 5.5 sacks, and 4.5 of them came in a comeback win over Ole Miss. He has been the most consistent lineman for the Seminoles this season. -- Andrea AdelsonPat Elflein Ohio State Buckeyes Senior | Offensive lineman Score: 8.85 Preseason rank: 25The move from guard to center has perhaps gone even better than the Buckeyes imagined. There have been no issues with Elfleins snapping, his surgically repaired shoulder is back to full strength, and his veteran leadership has been invaluable for a unit with three new starters on the line. -- Austin WardMalik McDowell Michigan State Spartans Junior | Defensive lineman Score: 8.8 Preseason rank: 24The massive middle of Michigan States defensive line is a game plan-altering force for anyone who faces the Spartans. McDowells eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss dont tell the full story of how much he can affect a game. -- Dan MurphyRaekwon McMillan Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Linebacker Score: 8.75 Preseason rank: 17The steady centerpiece of one of the nations toughest defenses continues to be a tackling machine, making the most of any play that comes his way. A couple blowouts have given McMillan breathers late in games, but he has still racked up 20 tackles and a forced fumble already for the Buckeyes. -- Austin WardDesmond King Iowa Hawkeyes Senior | Defensive back Score: 8.7 Preseason rank: 8Opponents have mostly given up on throwing the ball in Kings direction. The senior has 19 tackles through four games and has broken up two passes. Hes also averaging 30 yards per kick return, on which its harder to keep the ball away from him. -- Dan MurphyEvan Engram Ole Miss Rebels Senior | Tight end Score: 8.65 Preseason rank: UnrankedEverybody talked up Alabamas O.J. Howard after last seasons national championship game, but its Engram who leads all tight ends nationally with 26 receptions, 397 yards and three touchdowns through the first four games. -- Greg OstendorfDevonte Fields Louisville Cardinals Senior | Linebacker Score: 8.6 Preseason rank: 45Fields has been a big reason the Louisville defense has been so dominant in the early part of the season. So far, he has 20 tackles, two sacks and a team-high three pass breakups. -- Andrea AdelsonEddie Jackson Alabama Crimson Tide Senior | Defensive back Score: 8.55 Preseason rank: 33The senior has emerged as the heart and soul of the Alabama secondary. He has also become quite the playmaker, with a pick-six and a punt return for a touchdown. -- Alex ScarboroughDalvin Cook Florida State Seminoles Junior | Running back Score: 8.5 Preseason rank: 4Cook got off to a slow start but posted his best game of the season against USF, running for 267 yards and two touchdowns. It was his first game this season with 100 or more yards rushing. -- Andrea AdelsonCarl Lawson Auburn Tigers Junior | Defensive lineman Score: 8.45 Preseason rank: 31Fully healthy, Lawson has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks this season. Through the first four games, he has eight QB hurries and three sacks, including a critical one at the end of Saturdays game against LSU. -- Greg OstendorfMalik Hooker Ohio State Buckeyes Sophomore | Defensive back Score: 8.4 Preseason rank: UnrankedThere might not be a first-time starter anywhere in the country who has burst onto the scene quite like the game-changing safety has for the Buckeyes. The Ohio State secondary could have easily battled growing pains after losing three starters to the NFL draft, but Hooker was apparently just biding his time. He has nabbed three interceptions and a touchdown return in just three games. -- Austin WardTeez Tabor Florida Gators Junior | Defensive back Score: 8.35 Preseason rank: 20He didnt have his best day against Tennessee, but its hard to deny that Tabor ranks among the SECs top cornerbacks. Tabor has picked off two passes and broken up one in three games for a star-studded Florida secondary. -- David ChingDeshaun Watson Clemson Tigers Junior | Quarterback Score: 8.3 Preseason rank: 1Through four games, we have not yet seen the best out of Watson, though he did throw for more than 300 yards against Georgia Tech. His production in the run game is down compared to where it was a year ago. -- Andrea AdelsonLeonard Fournette LSU Tigers Junior | Running back Score: 8.25 Preseason rank: 2He isnt even healthy, and Fournette still leads the SEC in rushing. Against Wisconsin, Fournette reinjured the ankle he hurt during preseason practice. Even so, hes averaging 128.7 rushing yards per game and is one of the lone bright spots for LSUs offense. -- David ChingBen Boulware Clemson Tigers Senior | Linebacker Score: 8.2 Preseason rank: UnrankedBoulware has been the heart of another top-notch Clemson D, with 23 tackles in three games (he missed one because of an injury). Clemson ranks No. 1 in total defense. -- Andrea AdelsonTreDavious White Auburn Tigers Senior | Defensive back Score: 8.15 Preseason rank: 35White seems to have made a good decision by returning for his senior season. He ranks among the SECs top cover corners and has already scored two touchdowns, one after an interception and one on an amazing, 60-yard punt return. -- David ChingDonnel Pumphrey San Diego State Senior | Running back Score: 8.1 Preseason rank: 90Pumphrey is finally getting some well-deserved Heisman hype. He leads the nation with 599 rushing yards, is averaging a robust 8.2 yards per carry and has found the end zone seven times. Fun note: Pumphreys 199.76 yards per game average is more than that of 83 FBS teams. As his own team, hed rank 46th nationally. He wears on opponents, as 400 of his 599 yards have come in the second half. -- Kevin GemmellPatrick Mahomes II Texas Tech Junior | Quarterback Score: 8.05 Preseason rank: 42Mahomes is putting up monster numbers, with 1,493 passing yards, 18 total touchdowns and just two interceptions. If he can win some big games, hell be in the Heisman hunt. -- Max OlsonCalvin Ridley Alabama Crimson Tide Sophomore | Wide receiver Score: 8.0 Preseason rank: 14After a slow start against USC, the former Freshman All-American is back on track, as he leads Alabama in receptions (20) and receiving yards (224). As the passing game picks up steam under true freshman QB Jalen Hurts, so should Ridleys numbers. -- Alex ScarboroughChristian Wilkins Clemson Tigers Sophomore | Defensive lineman Score: 7.95 Preseason rank: 85Wilkins has shown his versatility for the Tigers, playing both defensive end and defensive tackle with exceptional results. He has five tackles for loss, two sacks and four quarterback pressures. -- Andrea AdelsonAdoree Jackson USC Trojans Junior | Defensive back Score: 7.9 Preseason rank: 21The do-it-all Jackson has been one of the few bright spots for the Trojans this year. As a defensive back, hes fourth on the team with 19 stops, an interception and one recovered fumble. But his impact has really been felt on special teams, where he has returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. He has been quiet offensively, with no catches and one rush for 11 yards. -- Kevin GemmellChad Kelly Ole Miss Rebels Senior | Quarterback Score: 7.85 Preseason rank: 40After the first month of the season, Kelly is behind Missouris Drew Lock in passing yards (1,235) and touchdowns (12), but considering the caliber of opponents Kelly has faced, its hard to argue that Kelly isnt still the SECs best quarterback. -- Greg OstendorfMike Williams Clemson Tigers Junior | Wide receiver Score: 7.8 Preseason rank: 48Williams returned after missing nearly all of the past season because of a neck injury, and he leads the Tigers with 303 yards receiving. He has one touchdown catch on the season. -- Andrea AdelsonSeth Russell Baylor Bears Senior | Quarterback Score: 7.75 Preseason rank: 36Russell came back strong from his neck injury and has the Bears rolling at 4-0, with 1,294 total yards and 14 touchdowns. He is now 12-0 as a starter. -- Max OlsonJake Butt Michigan Wolverines Senior | Tight end Score: 7.7 Preseason rank: 54Butts first two catches of the season were touchdowns. Since then, he has led Michigans passing attack with 19 catches for 234 yards through four games. He has proven to be the reliable, middle-of-the-field threat the Wolverines expected. -- Dan MurphyMarshon Lattimore Ohio State Buckeyes Sophomore | Defensive back Score: 7.65 Preseason rank: UnrankedThe Buckeyes have long raved about Lattimores potential impact in the secondary, if he could just stay healthy, and he has more than lived up to the billing through three games at full strength to open the season. With three interceptions and a touchdown to Lattimores credit, testing him has been a bad idea for opposing quarterbacks. -- Austin WardDan Feeney Indiana Hoosiers Senior | Offensive lineman Score: 7.6 Preseason rank: 37Indianas stalwart offensive lineman suffered a concussion in the first half of his second game of the year. He didnt play in a loss to Wake Forest the following week, and his status for Saturday is still up in the air. -- Dan MurphyNick Chubb Georgia Bulldogs Junior | Running back Score: 7.55 Preseason rank: 11Chubb failed to break the 100-yard mark in the past three games, but Georgias opener against North Carolina was an instant reminder of his greatness. He ran for 222 yards and two touchdowns against the Tar Heels in his return from injury. -- David ChingRoyce Freeman Oregon Ducks Junior | Running back Score: 7.5 Preseason rank: 7A leg injury has slowed Freeman this season. But when healthy, he has been efficient per usual. Hes averaging 8.8 yards per carry with 325 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Despite missing almost two full games, hes still among the Pac-12 leaders in rushing and one of just two backs in the league who averages more than 100 yards per contest. -- Kevin GemmellJosh Reynolds Texas A&M Aggies Senior | Wide receiver Score: 7.45 Preseason rank: UnrankedReynolds has quietly had a stellar opening month to the season, with 17 receptions (tied for third in the SEC) for 370 yards (also third) and three touchdowns. When accounting for games against only Power 5 opponents, no SEC receiver has more yards than Reynolds (317). -- Sam Khan Jr.James Washington Oklahoma State Cowboys Junior | Wide receiver Score: 7.4 Preseason rank: UnrankedOne of the games best home-run threats has 488 receiving yards on just 25 catches, including a 296-yard performance against Pitt. -- Max OlsonMarquis Haynes Ole Miss Rebels Junior | Defensive lineman Score: 7.35 Preseason rank: UnrankedHaynes does not receive as much attention as the SECs top pass rushers, but he should. Blessed with dynamic speed off the edge, Haynes already has two sacks, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. --?David ChingJake Browning Washington Huskies Sophomore | Quarterback Score: 7.3 Preseason rank: 93Washingtons offense rolled through a weak nonconference schedule, and Browning didnt play down to the competition. The Huskies hit a road bump in their first conference game against Arizona but still emerged 4-0. Through four games, Browning has been stellar, tossing 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions while completing 70.5 percent of his throws. -- Kevin GemmellChad Hansen California Golden Bears Junior | Wide receiver Score: 7.25 Preseason rank: UnrankedHansen is the national leader with 50 catches (a whopping 12.5 per game) so far, and he already has 656 receiving yards and six touchdowns, tied for second nationally. Within the conference, hes miles ahead of any other receiver. Hansen averages 164 yards per game; the next is 96.2. -- Kevin GemmellTommy Armstrong Jr. Nebraska Cornhuskers Senior | Quarterback Score: 7.2 Preseason rank: UnrankedOne of the best offensive Big Ten players of the season thus far, Armstrong has contributed 12 touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards of offense so far. Hes leading an undefeated team that is averaging nearly 40 points per game. -- Dan MurphyCurtis Samuel Ohio State Buckeyes Junior | Running back Score: 7.15 Preseason rank: UnrankedMost of the attention might focus on quarterback J.T. Barrett, but Samuels versatility has perhaps made him every bit as valuable for the explosive Buckeyes. Samuel leads Ohio State in receptions after lining up at receiver, he has been more involved as a rusher, with 32 carries already, and hes even taking snaps as a Wildcat quarterback as part of his impressive start to the season. -- Austin WardKD Cannon Baylor Bears Junior | Wide receiver Score: 7.1 Preseason rank: 71Cannon has been slowed by a groin injury but has still put up 360 receiving yards and four scores in limited action. -- Max OlsonJayon Brown UCLA Bruins Senior | Linebacker Score: 7.05 Preseason rank: UnrankedBrown picked up right where he left off the past season, when he was plugged in as Myles Jacks replacement and flourished. He leads the Bruins with 33 tackles, including 23 solo. He also has a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. He has been extremely effective in coverage, where he has broken up three passes. -- Kevin GemmellCordrea Tankersley Clemson Tigers Sophomore | Wide receiver Score: 7.0 Preseason rank: UnrankedTankersley has drawn praise from coach Dabo Swinney for his ability to match up one-on-one. He leads the team with four pass breakups. -- Andrea AdelsonKalen Ballage Arizona State Sun Devils Junior | Running back Score: 6.95 Preseason rank: UnrankedBallage fit a career into one game. Against Texas Tech, he matched an NCAA record by scoring eight touchdowns, including seven on the ground, as the Sun Devils won 68-55 in an offensive extravaganza. But Ballage isnt trading on that one game. He has also scored against UTSA and Northern Arizona, which gives him 10 touchdowns in four games. -- Kevin Gemmell http://www.broncosrookiestore.com/ . The Americans, skipped by John Shuster, seized the advantage in the eighth end by scoring five points for a 7-3 lead. MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City kept pace with likely title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea by beating West Ham 3-1 on Sunday for a third straight victory in the early stages of the English Premier League season. However, what started as a lesson in pass-and-move, attacking football by City under new coach Pep Guardiola turned into a nervy finish at Etihad Stadium.Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho scored in the opening 18 minutes for City, which carved West Ham open at will in a dominant first-half display that showed Guardiolas influence is already rubbing off on his players.Injury-hit West Ham improved in the second half and Michail Antonios 58th-minute header made City work for its win, which was sealed by another goal by Sterling in injury time when he rounded the goalkeeper and scored from a narrow angle. At least one perfect record will go when United plays City at Old Trafford in the first round of games after the international break. Its early days, but it could well be a shootout for the title between the three teams already at the top of the standings. City currently is ahead of United and Chelsea on goal difference -- and Guardiola said there plenty more to come.Of course, there is still room for improvement, Guardiola said, but we have been playing well and hopefully we can continue doing that.We have to make an amazing performance to win at Old Trafford. http://www.broncosrookiestore.com/Bronco...nderson-Jersey/. I can imagine the atmosphere. I am looking forward to live that experience.Arguably Guardiolas biggest achievement in his first few months at Etihad Stadium is getting the best out of Sterling, who lost his place in the team at the end of last season -- his first at City -- and then had a poor European Championship campaign with England. Now, he is showing the kind of form that persuaded City to spend 49 million pounds (then $76 million) to sign him from Liverpool last year. Creating more space for him to run at defenders seems to be the key difference in Sterling this season. We try to help him to say, `If you stay in that position, you receive the ball quicker, Guardiola said. After, when he receives the ball, it is completely his talent. Man City bought this player because they believe.City has won all five of its competitive matches under Guardiola, including two victories over Steaua Bucharest in Champions League qualifying. In the other game Sunday, Middlesbrough maintained its unbeaten start to life back in the Premier League by drawing 0-0 at West Bromwich Albion in a game of few clear-cut chances.Middlesbrough has five points from three games. SEATTLE -- Despite playing only three snaps of Thursdays 27-17 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo came away encouraged that his surgically repaired back is stronger than ever. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcon...Roberts-Jersey/ .Romo immediately reached for his lower back after getting sacked from behind by defensive end Cliff Avril, who jammed Romos back into the turf in the first quarter.Whenever you take a hit, that was a perfect timed situation, Romo said. I was going into a slide. But in a weird way, I feel good about the fact that was probably as tough of a hit Ive taken on the back as Ive had in the last five years. From that regard, I feel very lucky that it can hold up and I can keep going.Romo was held out of the rest of the game by coach Jason Garrett after lobbying to return. Romo did not have any X-rays, but he spent the second half of the game in the locker room.?The Cowboys were expected to determine Friday whether Romos back injury would require an MRI or other testing, a source told ESPNs Ed Werder, but there was no word late Friday night.Initially I think he was in a little bit of shock, Garrett said. He didnt feel real good. But once a little time went by, I think he was feeling better, better and better. We dont think there is anything serious.Owner and general manager Jerry Jones joked that he was spending the night in a Seattle hospital to have his heart tested after seeing his quarterback go down. Romo had his back operated on twice in 2013, and he missed one game in 2014 with two transverse process fractures. Last season, he missed 12 games with a twice-broken left collarbone that required offseason surgery. The Cowboys are 15-4 with Romo as the starter the past two seasons and 1-12 without him.Jones said the back soreness would not limit Romos ability to be ready for the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants.I just think, we, everyone had a scare, Jones said. He was not hurt, and he said he wasnt hurt. He wanted to go back in. He could have gone back in and played. But I praise Jason. It was his decision. After that, you couldnt afford for him to get hurt. You wouldve lost everybody had he walked back out there and gotten hurt, whether it was as a result of the first one or not. That was the smart thing to do for the team, for everybody involved here, is to call it a night for him. Certainly nothing at stake there.Romo has played only 16 snaps in the preseason. The Cowboys close the preseason Sept. 1 against the Houston Texans, but Romo has not played in a preseason finale since 2006. In two preseason games this summer, Romo has completed 5 of 6 passes for 60 yards. At the moment when you go down, you crunch so your back gets squished, I guess you could say, Romo said in describing the feeling of the hit. You almost feel a sensation as if someone gave you a stinger in your shoulder. It just feels hot for a second. That dissipates after a minute and youre OK. All of those things you felt before with back injuries, those are all fine. Then your strength comes back and youre like OK. It just takes a little bit.Garrett would not say whether Romo would play against the Texans. Jones said he has liked what Romo has done in the limited work.Hes looked really good, and of course the real way to evaluate how he looks is out at practice and how hes moving around, Jones said.Since 2013, Romos preseason snaps have diminished each year. He played 69 snaps in three games in 2013, 50 in two games in 2014 and 24 in two games in 2015.I felt great for camp. I felt great going into the game last week, same this week, Romo said. I feel very comfortable whether Im done playing or whatever. Its Coachs call. I just know my job is to get ready to play in the game, and I feel very good about our football team and our offense going forward. I think you guys can see that we have a chance to be a good unit. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcon...tkowski-Jersey/ . -- Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson asked his players a simple question during Fridays morning shootaround: How many of them had ever been on a team 14 games over . http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcon...Sanders-Jersey/ . The Brazilian goalkeeper signed a loan deal with the Major League Soccer club on Friday as he looks to get playing time ahead of this summers World Cup in his home country. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Grade 1 Hopeful was eventful from start to beyond the finish, but when it was over, it had a most appropriate ending as Chad Brown and Jose Ortiz were standing in the Saratoga winners circle on closing day.Practical Joke rallied three wide in the stretch and ran down the pace-setting pair of Royal Copy and Pretty Boy Flash to win Mondays $350,000 Hopeful by a neck. Royal Copy, whose jockey, Luis Saez, dropped his whip at the sixteenth pole, got second by a nose over Pretty Boy Flash. It was 6-3/4 lengths farther back to Bitumen, who was followed by Everybodyluvsrudy and Runaway Lute.Classic Empire, the 8-5 favorite, veered out leaving the gate and unseated jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., who fell to the ground. Ortiz actually got up and caught the horse. Classic Empire was vanned off after exhibiting mild lameness, according to New York Racing Association veterinarian Anthony Verderosa.Mark Casse, the trainer of Classic Empire, said later that the horse hit himself on the right foreleg but is okay. After the wire, Runaway Lute, who finished last, fell down, unseating jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. Runaway Lute was deemed fine by his trainer, Gary Contessa. Santana, who was down on the track for a few minutes, got up and was cleared to ride the last race.Meanwhile, Practical Joke gave Brown his 40th win of the meet, a training record for a 40-day Saratoga season. It was also Browns first Grade 1 victory on dirt with a male horse. His other two Grade 1 winners on dirt were Awesome Feather in the Gazelle Stakes and Wavell Avenue in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcon...ari-Poe-Jersey/. It was the 65th win of the meet for Jose Ortiz, who won his first Saratoga riding title by eight wins over his brother Irad. It was also Ortizs first Grade 1 win of the meet.Practical Joke, a son of Into Mischief, raced inside of Bitumen while Pretty Boy Flash and Royal Copy set a moderate pace of 23.80 seconds for the quarter and 47.69 for the half-mile.Ortiz began to ask his horse at the three-furlong pole and swung him three wide approaching the top of the stretch. Meanwhile, Royal Copy, on the inside, and Pretty Boy Flash, on the outside under John Velazquez, were still running in the stretch. In the final furlong, Practical Joke started gaining on the leading duo, and he was able to run them down late.He gave me a great turn of foot when I put him in the clear, but then the other two horses, they went so slow in front that they kept fighting, Ortiz said. As soon as he put the head in front, he kept going.Practical Joke, owned by Seth Klarman and Bill Lawrence, covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.39 and returned $6.20 as the second choice.Brown said hes been impressed with Practical Jokes professionalism from Day 1.For a baby, as well as he ran first time out, as fast he ran on all [speed] figures, Ive never seen this horse rattled at any moment since he came in the barn, Brown said. So professional, and he showed his class today. He was in a box today most of the way, he never panicked, and neither did Jose. WACO, Texas -- The only way to slow down No. Mats Hummels Jersey . 2 Baylor for an undersized team like Southeastern Louisiana is pack the lane and force jump shots. But once the Lady Bears started making those, there was no chance to keep them from scoring at will.Alexis Jones made a career-high six 3-pointers on her way to a 24-point night, and the Lady Bears cruised to a 109-38 victory Tuesday night. It was what they were giving me, and it was just one of those nights, Jones said.Baylor (4-1) dominated from the opening tip and shot 64.2 percent from the floor to break 100 points for the second straight game. The Lady Beasr also went 8-for-12 from 3-point range as a team and made 33 of their 50 free throw attempts. Southeastern Louisiana didnt shoot a free throw until 7:17 remained in the third quarter. When you miss 17 free throws, thats not a positive, Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. I spoke to them about that in the locker room. Get up there and make your free throws. Getting to the line that many times is a positive, but missing 17 is not a positive.Lauren Cox had 21 points, and Beatrice Mompremier and Alexis Prince added 18 and 10, respectively. Twelve of Baylors 13 players recorded at least one point. It seems like (Cox is) getting a lot more comfortable, Jones said. Shes a great player and she wants to be out there on the floor with us. Shes going to keep working hard, and were seeing progression in her every single day.Baylors size contributed to a 43-14 rebounding advantage and helped stifle the Lady Lions (1-3) to a 28.6 percent mark shooting. The Lady Bears started the game in a zone defense, but quickly went back to their traditional man-to-man after Southeastern Louisiana made a few shots.Taylin Underwood scored eight of her team-high nine points in the first quarter for Southeastern Louisiana, but missed her last 10 shots after starting 3-for-6.Taylin is the only returning starter from last years team, and shes the most experienced, Southeastern Louisiana coach Errol Gauff said. So shes probably been in this type of venue and atmosphere more than our other young ladies, so she was probably a little more relaxed.BIG PICTURESoutheastern Louisiana: The Lady Lions face a long and challenging road -- with the emphasis on road. Five of their last six nonconference games are away from home before they open Southland Conference play by hosting defending champion Abilene Christian.Baylor: Cox, the nations No. 1 recruit, had the best game of her young career with 21 points and nine rebounds. She and the rest of Baylors prized class struggled last week against top-10 foes UCLA and UConn and are still trying to adjust to the college game.POLL IMPLICATIONSBaylor dropped three spots after a road loss to UConn, but the Lady Bears figure to climb if they put together a perfect week because two teams ahead of them -- No. 3 South Carolina and No. 4 Louisville -- are scheduled to clash Sunday.UP NEXTSoutheastern Louisiana will return home to meet Bethune-Cookman before what figures to be a difficult trip next week against a Colorado team that is just outside the Top 25 and Colorado State.Baylor has a chance to make some noise this weekend at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida. After opening with Kent State on Friday, the Lady Bears could meet No. 18 DePaul in the semifinals and No. 8 Ohio State in the final. Robert Lewandowski Jersey . Three years ago, Texas Tech seemingly had uncovered something special in walk-on true freshman quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mario Gotze Jersey .As it turned out, that relationship burned out before the end of the season. This weekend, the acrimonious split that followed will finally come full circle.Theyll be ready for me when I get down there, thats for sure, said Mayfield, who will return to Lubbock for the first time as quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners. Im excited for it. Its always fun to play in Lubbock. This time, Im on the other side of it.When Mayfield arrived at Tech in 2013 as an unheralded walk-on, first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury had inherited one quarterback in Michael Brewer and signed another in Davis Webb. Yet by August, Brewer had a back injury, and Webb got sick, which caused him to lose 40 pounds.Baker was really the only guy we had left, Brewer said in an interview with ESPN.com this week.Mayfield, however, made the most of his opportunity. With him behind center, the Red Raiders raced to a 5-0 start before a knee injury knocked Mayfield out of the lineup too. The rest of the season, Kingsbury shuffled quarterbacks, and Tech won two more games before dropping its final five. After starting Mayfield in the regular-season finale at Texas, which the Red Raiders lost 41-16, Kingsbury reopened the competition for the bowl.I guess Baker felt like he deserved to be back in there, Brewer said. Neither party was happy about it. Texas Tech was losing. On the other hand, Baker felt like he deserved to play. Davis had been playing. I was trying to rehab. There was a lot going on.The whole thing got pretty hairy, as far as he said, they said. And to be honest with you, I dont really know too many of the details, other than Baker pretty much had enough and decided to go elsewhere.Mayfield didnt wait. Before Techs bowl game against Arizona State, he informed Kingsbury that he would be leaving.Initially, Mayfield cited a miscommunication with Kingsbury as his reason. But in an interview with ESPN.com a month later, he went in-depth.When I got hurt, there was no communication between me and my coach. When I got healthy, I didnt know why I wasnt playing right away, Mayfield said. At that time, we were losing a couple games in a row. I was still clueless as to why I wasnt playing. That was really frustrating for me because I started the first five games and we won. So I just didnt really know exactly what he was thinking or what the situation was. So that happened. And then going from a week-to-week basis, not knowing whether I was going to play or not and how short the leash would be if I had an average half, how quickly I would be pulled or anything like that, it was making me uncomfortable, and I just didnt want to be there anymore. I loved Lubbock, and I loved my teammates. But going through that, and then [they] tell me theyre still working on a scholarship for next fall, and I wouldnt have one for this semester coming up. It was all that.Tech officials had indicated that Mayfield wouldve been placed on scholarship that spring. But Brewer, who later transferred to Virginia Tech, said Mayfields communication complaint was valid. It was a unique situation, with three of us capable of playing, Brewer said. It seemed like it differed every week. One kid was getting told this, the other kid was getting told this. And then on Friday, neither one of those things happened. So there was just a lot of confusion, and the communication wasnt real great. A couple of people got tired of it and decided to go elsewhere. I think there was a lot of right and wrong on both sides. I think both sides couldve handled it better. For Mayfield, the feud was only beginning. Tech declined to release him so he could transfer in conference to Oklahoma, where he wanted to go. Because Big 12 transfer rules at the time didnt differentiate between walk-on and scholarship players, Mayfield faced the prospect of not only sitting out in 2014 but also losing a year of eligibility. That only inflamed the animosity. After the Big 12 faculty athletic representatives voted down Mayfields appeal to become immediately eligible, his father called Kingsbury a scoundrel in an interview with The Oklahoman. Then in December 2015, after he had won the Oklahoma job and quarterbacked the Sooners to the playoff, Mayfield riled up Techs fan base again. He claimed that during the year he sat out, he was tossed out of a Lubbock bar the weekend the Sooners played Tech (in a Facebook post, the owner retorted that Mayfield had been thrown out because he was a minor). Either way, that eventually prompted the Tech blog Viva The Matadors to run the headline, I Hate Baker Mayfield.Since then, however, the bitterness has begun to thaw. This past summer, a day after voting down a proposal to change the walk-on transfer rule, the faculty reps reversed their decision. The ruling essentially gave Mayfield back his fourth season of Big 12 eligibility, so he could remain at Oklahoma for 2017.In a twist, Tech officials actively supported Sooner officials in trying to get the rule revisited and reversed. Both times, the Red Raiders voted in favor of the changing the rule.During Big 12 media days, Kingsbury added to that by praising Mayfield.I loved coaching him, he said. Loved the chip on his shoulder. Have cheered for him in every game except one. With Patrick Mahomes leading the nation in passing for the Red Raiders, Kingsbury noted again this week that it has all worked itself out in a way where everybodys happy. Baker is playing well, so I dont see the issue anymore.Alls well that ends well. But that doesnt mean The Jones wont be all over him Saturday -- or that Mayfield wont be goading them back.Tech has a passionate fan base, and I know a lot of them werent happy about Baker leaving, Brewer said. And Baker is a pretty outspoken guy. Hes going to go out there a little bit animated and egging them on, for sure.I imagine its going to be pretty crazy. COLUMBUS, OHIO -- John Tortorella, the coach of Team USA for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, isnt backing off on his comments that hed bench any player who didnt stand for the U.S. national anthem. On Tuesday, Tortorella told ESPN: If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game. The coach seemed taken aback Wednesday by the reaction to his comment, but he did not backtrack on his stance.Im not backing off, Tortorella said after the teams on-ice workout Wednesday.Ill tell you right now. Try to understand me. Im not criticizing anybody for stepping up and putting their thoughts out there about things. Im the furthest thing away from being anything political. No chance Im involved in that stuff, Tortorella said. But the Columbus Blue Jackets coach says he remains unequivocal in his belief that the flag and the anthem should be sacrosanct. Tortorella has a son who is deployed in Afghanistan for the third time as a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces.Listen, he told reporters. Were in a great country because we can express ourselves. And I am not against expressing yourselves. Thats whats great about our country. We can do that. But when there are men and women that give their lives for their flag, for their anthem, have given their lives, continue to put themselves on the line with our services for our flag, for our anthem, families that have been disrupted, traumatic physical injuries, traumatic mental injuries for these people that give us the opportunity to do the things we want to do, theres no chance an anthem and a flag should come into any type of situation where youre trying to make a point. It is probably the most disrespectful thing you can do as a U.S. citizen is to bring that in. Because thats our symbol. All for [expressing] yourself. Thats whats so great. Everybody does. But no chance when it comes to the flag and the anthem. No chance. The issue of respecting the anthem has created a firestorm of debate and controversy after San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to sit for the national anthem during one NFL preseason game and then kneel for another.Tortorella, 58, said a number of the players on Team USA came to him after his comments were made public and supported his views on respecting the anthem and flag.Team North America defenseman Seth Jones was asked Thursday about Tortorellas comments regarding sitting for the anthem.I have no problem with the comments, Jones said. Youre not going to see me sitting down. ... I dont know Kaepernick at all, but I wont sit down. Nott even a thought. Raphael Guerreiro Jersey. ones, the son of former NBA player Popeye Jones, plays for Tortorella in Columbus and is the highest-drafted African-American in the NHL.In a follow-up interview with ESPNs Linda Cohn on Wednesday, Tortorella described what would happen if a player on one of his teams decided to boycott the national anthem. On this team here, this World Cup team, there wouldnt even be a player that would think about doing that because I know the guys well enough. Weve gone through it, he said. But if I was ever involved in a situation where someone is trying to make a point, and they have a perfect right to do that, but to disrespect our flag and anthem, as I said yesterday, they would not play.If that ever happened, theres no question, its just not right. And its not black, white, blue, red. It has nothing to do with the politics of all of this. Its just not right. This is our country. Our people are fighting for our country, our flag and our anthem. That shouldnt come into this equation at all. There are other ways of doing things.Earlier Wednesday, a member of the U.S. Army addressed the team but neither Tortorella nor the members of Team USA would describe the exchange. We are playing hockey, Tortorella said. Other people are doing real stuff. This gentleman who spoke to us this morning is doing the real stuff. Life and death. We just want to give to our country in our own little way. Quite honestly we are entertainers. What this man talked about in our locker room and what he does casts a huge shadow over us as far as what were doing.Canada World Cup coach Mike Babcock, who also coaches the Toronto Maple Leafs, was asked what would happen if one of his players sat during the national anthem in protest. This is what I know: Im not going to have to make that decision because thats not going to happen, he said. So I dont have to worry about that reaction. At that time I guess I would decide what to do. One of the greatest things about this tournament is that most of us get to play for your country, and thats a thrill of a lifetime in itself. And then when you get to do it on Canadian soil, thats another thrill. For those of us who have the life we have, and the freedom we have, to repay respects to the people who went before us and made sure that happened; I mean, its pretty straightforward and common sense to me. But I dont know why were talking about this.ESPN senior writer Craig Custance contributed to this report. Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker will have surgery on his right ankle in the next few days Youth Joe Flacco Jersey , and Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel said the Titans will decide if the veteran might be able to return later this season.
The Titans placed Walker on injured reserve Monday and signed tight end MyCole Pruitt off Houston's practice squad.
"Disappointing because he puts a lot into it," Vrabel said of Walker's injury. "He plays hard, been a productive player for us and somebody that I was excited to coach and be with. But hopefully, we'll see where he's at after surgery and re-evaluate his potential return."
Walker was hurt with 3:33 left in the Titans' 27-20 loss in Miami when Dolphins safety T.J. McDonald tackled him at the end of a 15-yard reception. Walker was carted off after having his right ankle wrapped in an air cast.
No tight end has had more catches than Walker's 356 receptions between 2013 and 2017. Walker, 34, signed an extension through 2020 in training camp . He was the Pro Bowl MVP in January and has been quarterback Marcus Mariota's favorite target the past three seasons.
The rest of the Titans' tight end group includes Jonnu Smith, a third-round pick out of Florida International in 2017, eight-year veteran Luke Stocker who has started 58 of his 84 career games, and Anthony Firkser who spent last season on Kansas City's practice squad.
Combined Womens Luke Kuechly Jersey , the trio has 56 career receptions and will be replacing a veteran who led the Titans with 74 catches last season alone.
Vrabel, who spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with Houston, saw the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Pruitt on the Texans' practice squad. Pruitt has 12 catches for 102 yards in stops with Minnesota and Chicago before arriving in Houston out of Southern Illinois.
"Being able to see him on the practice squad last year and see what he did in Houston in his time there practicing against us and some of the stuff that he did was excited to be able to get him and tell (general manager) Jon (Robinson) that this is somebody that we think can help us," Vrabel said.
CHICAGO (AP) — AJ McCarron couldn’t remember having this much fun at any level of football.
Trailing by five in the closing minutes, he told his teammates they were going to pull out the win and it would be a “legendary” moment for them.
McCarron delivered in the end after struggling for most of the game, leading a fourth-quarter surge that culminated with a touchdown pass in the final minute, and the Buffalo Bills closed the preseason with a 28-27 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.
With both teams holding out their starters and few key reserves playing, the focus was on McCarron. For most of the game Youth Antonio Brown Jersey , he made a shaky case for a roster spot let alone a starting job, but he did come through down the stretch.
He ran for a touchdown and threw for three more in the fourth — including a 6-yarder to Keith Towbridge in the closing minute. That capped an 84-yard drive that was aided by two roughing-the-passer calls, including one against Isaiah Irving on a fourth down at the Buffalo 3.
“I looked at the group and told them, ‘Watch this, it’s gonna be legendary,'” McCarron said. “First, I said, ‘Watch this, we’re gonna go down and win and you’re gonna remember this for a long time so this is gonna be legendary — for us and for our group Youth Alejandro Villanueva Jersey , not knowing who’s (gonna be) here tomorrow.’ … It was just awesome to battle with them and probably the most fun I’ve ever had.”
McCarron was 13 of 34 for 156 yards and had an interception returned for a touchdown in the early going. He could be the odd man out if the Bills opt to go with two quarterbacks rather than three, though coach Sean McDermott insisted he is “absolutely” in the race for the starting job with first-round pick Josh Allen and returning backup Nathan Peterman.
He also said he has not decided who will start the opener at Baltimore on Sept. 9.
CASE TO STAY
Tyler Bray made a case for the Bears to keep three quarterbacks. With Mitchell Trubisky and backup Chase Daniel not playing, Bray was 19 of 29 for 180 yards and an interception. Ryan Nall ran for 79 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown.
“I like where we’re at,” said Bears coach Matt Nagy, in his first season. “We’ve got a lot of depth and we’re going to have some tough decisions here coming up.”
Signed to a two-year deal in free agency after spending the past four seasons as Andy Dalton’s backup in Cincinnati, McCarron was considered the initial front-runner for the Bills’ starting job because he had more experience than Allen and returning backup Peterman.
But he missed a little over a week after he bruised his right shoulder while being hit several times at Cleveland on Aug. 17. That injury along with his performance seemed to knock him out of the running for the starting job. It also raised questions about whether he will make the opening roster.
But McCarron said he has “no clue” where he stands in the competition or if he’ll make the roster.
“I understand you all want to talk about the QB competition, but I’m enjoying the game,” he said.
McCarron got off to a brutal start Stefon Diggs Jersey Big , throwing for just 39 yards and getting picked off twice in the first half.
His troubles really began after Cody Parkey kicked a 47-yard field goal on Chicago’s first possession.
Moments later, McCarron threw a pass right to the Bears’ Doran Grant along the sideline, resulting in a 33-yard touchdown return . And just like that, it was 10-0.
Parkey added a 23-yard field goal midway through the second quarter. Nall made it 20-0 with just under two minutes left in the half with his 32-yard TD run up the right sideline, though the Bears missed another opportunity in the closing seconds after McCarron got picked off again.
Chicago’s Abdullah Anderson tipped a pass at the line, leading to an interception for John Timu. But Parkey’s 39-yard attempt hit the right upright.
There were no protests by either team during the anthem.
Bills: WR Ray McCloud III suffered a knee injury.
Bears: TE Daniel Brown suffered a shoulder injury on a 27-yard catch in the third and left the game. Nagy said he’s not sure if it’s “day by day or week by week.” … LB Kasim Edebali was helped off the field and taken from the sideline on a cart with a bruised leg after a run by Buffalo on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Bills: Open season at Baltimore on Sept. 9.
Bears: Open season at Green Bay on Sept. 9.

The Buffalo Bills are shuffling punters by claiming Corey Bojorquez off waivers and releasing Colton Schmidt.
The Bills also claimed cornerback Ryan Lewis on Sunday Youth Ryan Tannehill Jersey , a week before Buffalo opens the season at Baltimore. Bojorquez and Lewis were claimed after being released by the New England Patriots over the past two days.
Bojorquez is an undrafted rookie free agent after spending the past two seasons at New Mexico. He earned honorable mention All-America honors last season by finishing fourth in the nation and setting a single-season school record by averaging 47.3 yards per punt.
He replaces Schmidt, who spent four seasons in Buffalo. Schmidt was cut despite ranking second on the team list with a career 44.1-yard gross punting average.
Lewis was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Pittsburgh last year, and spent the season on the Patriots' practice squad.
The Bills also began stocking their practice squad by signing eight players, all of whom were cut by the team a day earlier.
Buffalo signed safety Dean Marlowe, receiver Cam Phillips, running back Keith Ford, linebacker Corey Thompson Youth T. J. Watt Jersey , cornerback Levi Wallace, defensive end Mike Love and offensive linemen Gerhard de Beer and De'Ondre Wesley.
The Jacksonville Jaguars waived two former draft picks in final roster cuts Saturday, including quarterback and sixth-round draft pick Tanner Lee.
The Jaguars also cut speedy cornerback Jalen Myrick, a seventh-round pick in 2017. Undrafted rookie Tre Herndon, from Vanderbilt, beat out Myrick for the fifth and final cornerback spot.
Jacksonville kept two quarterbacks: Blake Bortles and backup Cody Kessler. The team likely will sign Lee to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
A two-year starter at Tulane (2014-15) who finished his college career at Nebraska, Lee completed 15 of 30 passes for 201 yards in the preseason. He was sacked five times.
The Jaguars also parted with several players who stood out in training camp and the preseason Youth Alejandro Villanueva Jersey , including cornerback Quenton Meeks; running backs Tim Cook and Brandon Wilds; receivers Montay Crockett, DeAndre Smelter and Shane Wynn; defensive end Carroll Phillips; and offensive lineman William Poehls.
Jacksonville also released veteran defensive tackle Sealver Siliga and placed defensive end Dante Fowler on the suspended by commissioner list. Fowler was suspended one game for a 2017 arrest. He will rejoin the team Sept. 10 and won't count against the team's 53-man roster for Week 1.
The Jaguars placed veteran cornerback Kenneth Acker on injured reserve. They also waived injured linebacker Manase Hungalu and tight ends DeAndre Goolsby and Ben Koyack.

A Browns-Bills playoff game sounds like a farfetched scenario Womens Lamar Jackson Jersey , but Tyrod Taylor can picture it.
Taylor, the Browns’ starting quarterback, told NFL Network that he’d love to see the Bills, his own team, in the playoffs — especially because he thinks he could be the one to end a Bills playoff run.
“Things didn’t end the way I would have liked it to in Buffalo,” Taylor said. “We could possibly see those guys in the playoffs or we could knock those guys out of the playoffs. I would love that. That’s motivation I take to work with me every day.”
Last year Taylor quarterbacked the Bills in their first playoff game since 1999. This year he’s hoping to quarterback the Browns to their first playoff game since 2002. If he faces his old team, it would represent the first time the Bills and Browns made the playoffs in the same year since 1989. That year, Bernie Kosar out-dueled Jim Kelly as the Browns beat the Bills 34-30.
Now that fan voting is finished, it’s a good time to take a hard look at All-Star Game selections.
Which players are worthy of participating July 17 in Washington, and who gets left out?
Let’s touch on this topic first: Shohei Ohtani is incredibly talented and fascinating to watch, but the Los Angeles Angels‘ two-way Japanese star simply hasn’t been on the field enough to earn a spot. Not at pitcher OR designated hitter.
Ohtani just returned to the lineup from an elbow injury that’s knocked him off the mound for now. He’s only made nine major league pitching starts Youth Josh Allen Jersey , and the Angels have limited his at-bats all season due to concerns about the rookie’s workload.
So while it would definitely be fun to see him in baseball’s summer showcase, there are several more deserving American League sluggers at DH. It wouldn’t be fair to deny one of them in favor of Ohtani. And he’s unavailable to pitch at this point.
Let him win his invitation next season with a fully healthy and productive first half. Or the year after that. Or whenever it happens.
Buzzkill, I know.
But even without Ohtani, there’s plenty to watch for leading up to the first All-Star Game in the nation’s capital since the Senators hosted at RFK Stadium in 1969.
Start with Atlanta outfielder Nick Markakis. With more than 2,150 career hits, he’s poised to make an All-Star team for the first time in his 13th big league season.
Matt Kemp, Miles Mikolas and Mike Foltynewicz are enjoying feel-good comebacks.
Robinson Cano, the MVP of last year’s game, will sit this one out while serving a drug suspension.
Injuries may keep familiar stars such as Clayton Kershaw, Stephen Strasburg, Carlos Correa and Corey Seager from returning Youth Antonio Brown Jersey , but in their place should be exciting newcomers like Aaron Nola, Ozzie Albies, Alex Bregman and Eddie Rosario.
The American League has won five times in a row and is 17-3-1 in the last 21 years.
”I want to win. I always want to win. It’s not playing for home-field advantage anymore in the World Series, but all these guys are competitors and they want to win for their respective league,” said National League manager Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
There’s a logjam at shortstop in the AL, and the NL bullpen is loaded.
That sort of thing is where it gets complicated: Each roster has 32 spots, with 12 going to pitchers. Every club must be represented, too.
Online voting for the starters at each position ended at midnight Thursday, and the teams will be revealed Sunday night.
”I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be a great experience,” said Houston’s AJ Hinch, who will manage the AL squad. ”It’s as casual a game as you’ll play with the biggest names on the stage Authentic Anthony Barr Jersey , and all the attention that comes with it. It’s a big deal.”
Disregarding fan and player balloting, here are our picks:
FIRST BASE – Jose Abreu of the White Sox gets the start, barely nudging out Toronto switch-hitter Justin Smoak.
SECOND BASE – AL MVP Jose Altuve from the World Series champion Astros is backed up by 34-year-old Oakland veteran Jed Lowrie, whose first All-Star nod is probably long overdue.
SHORTSTOP – Cleveland whiz Francisco Lindor is in the lineup. Top trade target Manny Machado from lowly Baltimore, and Jean Segura from Seattle are on the bench. Gold Glove winner Andrelton Simmons of the Angels is really tough to leave out.
THIRD BASE – Jose Ramirez gives the Indians both starters on the left side of the infield. Bregman backs up at the hot corner, from Houston.
CATCHER – Wilson Ramos is a big reason the Rays are holding their own. Perennial pick Salvador Perez represents the struggling Royals despite his subpar season.
OUTFIELD – Angels star Mike Trout plays center, with Boston’s Mookie Betts in left and Yankees masher Aaron Judge in right. Reserves include Rosario from the Twins, Mitch Haniger from the Mariners, and Nicholas Castellanos from the Tigers.
DESIGNATED HITTER – J.D. Martinez has been worth every penny during his first season in Boston. Texas’ Shin-Soo Choo and New York hulk Giancarlo Stanton, last year’s NL MVP, both still play the outfield sometimes Stefon Diggs Jersey Big , which helps. Seattle slugger Nelson Cruz is a very difficult omission.
STARTING PITCHERS – Luis Severino is in line to become the first Yankees pitcher to start an All-Star Game since Roger Clemens in 2001. Other right-handers include Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Charlie Morton from Houston, plus Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer from Cleveland. The left-handers are Boston ace Chris Sale and Tampa Bay’s Blake Snell. Seattle lefty James Paxton is our top pick to replace Verlander, who doesn’t plan to pitch in the All-Star Game because he’s scheduled to start two days before.
RELIEVERS – Four filthy closers in the bullpen: Yankees lefty Aroldis Chapman, plus right-handers Craig Kimbrel (Boston), Edwin Diaz (Seattle) and Blake Treinen (Oakland).
FIRST BASE – Braves cornerstone Freddie Freeman starts over Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt, who overcame a miserable May with a monster June.
SECOND BASE – The unexpected starter at a competitive position is Scooter Gennett from the Reds. Right behind him are flashy Javier Baez from the Cubs and 21-year-old igniter Ozzie Albies from the surprising Braves.
SHORTSTOP – San Francisco pro Brandon Crawford is backed up by Colorado bopper Trevor Story.
THIRD BASE – No Jaren Jackson Jr. Jersey
Why won’t the NFL let Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif apply the initials signifying his status as a Medical Doctor on the back of his jersey? The position on the M.D. issue has become the latest million-dollar question regarding the No Fun League.
And this one really isn’t about fun. It’s about celebrating excellence and inspiring others to emulate it. From persuading players to make early preparations for the post-football existence that Chuck Noll called “your life’s work” to making an impression on inquisitive children who learn that the “M.D.” next to Duvernay-Tardif’s name means “doctor” and who may decide in that moment to do the same http://www.brownscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-denzel-ward-jersey , only good things would flow from granting the request.
PFT contacted the league by email on Saturday for confirmation of the story that had emerged from Canada regarding the no-M.D. edit. There was no response. PFT contacted the league by email again on Sunday, after MDS posted a story on the report from Canada, for confirmation and explanation. Again, there was no response.
The response from fans has been largely universal: It’s a bad decision and a worse look for a league that already allows “SR.” and “JR.” and other designations to appear on a jersey. So why not let Durvernay-Tardif to attach a designation that is used just as commonly?
There’s no reasonable argument against it. Often, the league takes the position that Demaryius Thomas Jersey Navy Blue , if an exception is made for one player, exceptions will have to be made for other players. In this case, they should want other players to become the exception, by demonstrating the intelligence and work ethic necessary to get a medical degree while also working as an NFL player.
What’s the problem with celebrating this achievement? Does the NFL hope players won’t develop the kind of marketable skills that won’t make them completely dependent on professional football, ensuring that the NFL will have full and complete access to the players until the moment when the NFL decides it no longer wants or needs them?
That surely (I hope) isn’t the case. But the NFL usually has a reason for everything it does http://www.jaguarscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-leonard-fournette-jersey , even if the reasoning is misguided. In this case, there’s simply no valid reason to keep Duvernay-Tardif from letting the world know via his football uniform what he has accomplished.
Adrian Peterson trains in Houston during the offseason, even opening a megagym in his adopted hometown a couple of years ago. So it’s no surprise the star running back would love to play his 12th season in Houston.
Peterson, 33, mentioned the Texans and four other teams as possible fits in a recent appearance on ESPN’s NFL Live.
“You know obviously I’ve mentioned Houston a couple of times Jarvis Landry Jersey Orange ,” Peterson said. “I feel like Green Bay wouldn’t be a bad look as well. Carolina. There’s some options out there. You know Miami. Down there in [Los Angeles]. That would be a nice look, too, with Todd Gurley. You see around the league they have a two-back system. Guys are not really not pounding the ball 20, 30 times a game, so I think that leaves the door open for a couple of opportunities for me.”
Peterson also recently said he would be open to a return to New Orleans.
Peterson has posted his workout videos Case Keenum Jersey Navy Blue , hoping teams take notice. In truth, Peterson likely would have interest in any team that shows interest in him.

First-year GM Brandon Beane made deft trades in adding draft picks and beginning to clear team's books of high-priced salaries, including DT Marcell Dareus. RB LeSean McCoy was workhorse on offense that lacked consistency at QB (Tyrod Taylor) and established depth at WR. The good news for the Chiefs: Free safety Daniel Sorensen did not tear his anterior cruciate ligament. The bad news: Sorensen’s knee injury could sideline him into the “early part of the regular season,” Herbie Teope of NFL Media reports.

The Chiefs already were thin at safety, with Sorensen expected to start alongside Eric Berry.
Berry is returning from a torn Achilles’ tendon.
Kansas City gave Berry a planned day off Tuesday, leaving Eric Murray and rookie Armani Watts as the team’s starting safeties in practice. Murray played 39.8 percent of the defensive snaps last season, making two starts. Watts is a fourth-round pick out of Texas A&M.

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook was given the green light for full practice heading into camp and he was feeling comfortable enough about his recovery from a torn ACL that he ditched his knee brace.
Given that confidence http://www.brownscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-baker-mayfield-jersey , it’s not surprise that Cook is ready to take the next step in his return to the field. The team will be wearing full pads for Monday’s practice and Cook showed no reticence about what lies ahead when he was asked if he’s set to take a hit.
“I’m ready to deliver it,” Cook said, via Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “That’s what I’m ready to do. That’s my mind-set J.J. Watt Jersey Red , man. I’m going to go out there and play and be me. I know my knee is fixed. I know I’m healed up. Put the time in, go out there and play.”
The Vikings haven’t laid out a plan for the first preseason game at this point, but Cook said he hopes to be on the field against the Broncos on August 11 for his first game action since Week 4 of last season.

The Redskins announced both moves Monday.

Unafraid of the impending closing of the subway Authentic Jameis Winston Jersey , Capitals fans partied in the streets Thursday night and into Friday morning to celebrate the franchise’s first Stanley Cup and the city’s first title in the major four professional sports since 1992.
After the Capitals beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on the road in Game 5, celebrations erupted inside their home arena at the viewing party and around Chinatown. Confetti covered fans who filled Capital One Arena, and chants of ”We Want The Cup!” became ”We Got The Cup!”
Outside, fans watching on video boards chanted ”Ovi! Ovi!” as captain Alex Ovechkin was presented the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP with 15 goals. The crowd cheered wildly when Ovechkin lifted the Cup to complete his 13th season and the franchise’s 43rd .
The Capitals had only made the Cup Final once before and the semifinals twice. One fan held up a sign reading, ”Now I Can Die In Peace” – which was made famous in hockey when the New York Rangers won in 1994.
This was new for at least a generation of D.C. sports fans. The championship is the first by a Washington professional sports team in the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball since the Redskins won the Super Bowl on Jan. 26, 1992, and came 40 years to the day the Bullets won basketball’s title.
As police officers blocked F Street and announcements were made about the last Metro train Authentic Adrian Peterson Jersey , many fans ignored those pleas and kept partying on the steps of the National Portrait Gallery and in bars surrounding the rink. A couple of fans climbed light poles and one even scaled the nearby dragon tower.

Stuck in an 11-game losing streak, the Detroit Tigers cleared the air with a pregame meeting. Then Nick Castellanos went out and cleared the bases with an important home run that helped stop Detroit’s slide.
Castellanos hit his fourth career grand slam, Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven strong innings and the Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-1 on Sunday.
Manager Ron Gardenhire scheduled the pregame meeting, a relaxed session in which players were invited to say whatever was on their mind. Castellanos called it an opportunity to ”just kind of address the elephant in the room.”
”It gave anybody a chance that wanted to speak up to speak up,” said Castellanos, adding that Victor Martinez, James McCann and Gardenhire were among those who talked.
JaCoby Jones hit a two-run homer as the Tigers won for the first time since June 17 Womens A.J. Green Jersey , when they completed a three-game road sweep of the Chicago White Sox.
Castellanos nearly hit another home run in the ninth but Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar made a leaping catch at the wall.
”I felt like I was going to have a chance to make a play,” Pillar said. ”A ball like that hit as high as it is it allows me time to kind of track the ball and track the fence and go up to try to make a play. ”
Castellanos stopped on the basepaths to applaud Pillar’s catch before turning and heading back to the dugout.
”What else can you say the end of the day besides `What a play,”’ Castellanos said. ”It sucks it had to happen to me but plays like that have to happen to somebody.”
Niko Goodrum had a career-high four hits and Jose Iglesias had two hits and two RBIs for Detroit, which had lost 12 of 14 at Rogers Centre.
”That was a fun win, a really fun with with a lot of great swings,” Gardenire said.
Zimmermann (3-0) allowed one run and five hits in his third start since returning from a shoulder injury that caused him to miss more than a month.
”He had a great curveball today,” Gardenhire said. ”That’s probably the best curveball I’ve seen all year out of him.”
Wearing red jerseys and caps for Canada Day, the Blue Jays couldn’t deliver a win for the holiday crowd of 37,445.
Tigers outfielder Leonys Martin left with a sore left hamstring after his bases-loaded bunt single in the fifth brought home Detroit’s first run. Martin was replaced by Victor Reyes.
Following the game Authentic Josh Norman Jersey , Gardenhire said Martin would be placed on the 10-day disabled list. A corresponding roster move will be made before Monday afternoon’s series finale.
Castellanos followed with his 13th home run, a shot that bounced off the top of the wall in right. It was his first grand slam since Sept. 8, 2017, also against Toronto.
Castellanos also made a fine catch in right, reaching back to grab Russell Martin’s line drive for the final out of the fourth.
Iglesias chased Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (10-4) with a two-out, two-run single in the sixth.
Happ matched season-worsts by allowing seven runs and 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings.
”It’s not a pretty outing and I own that,” Happ said.
Happ had won six consecutive decisions since his previous defeat, May 10 against Seattle.
Teoscar Hernandez tripled in the first and scored on a two-out double by Justin Smoak, but Zimmermann recovered to retire the next nine Blue Jays batters.

Jon Cooper didn’t blame Andrei Vasilevskiy for the Tampa Bay Lightning digging a deep hole early in the Eastern Conference final.
Two games and two losses brought plenty of criticism of the young Russian goaltender. Cooper wasn’t thrilled about that.
”The questions were coming from the other side of the table Authentic Drew Brees Jersey , and I felt it was the questioning of Vasilevskiy,” the Tampa Bay coach said. ”We don’t. He’s been the guy for us.”
Vasilevskiy is the guy who turned the series around for the Lightning, who now lead the Capitals 3-2 and can eliminate Washington on the road in Game 6 on Monday night and move on to the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. After a 6.00 goals-against average and .839 save percentage in Games 1 and 2, he has a 2.00 GAA and .943 save percentage since as the series’ biggest difference-maker.
”Just tried to stay positive and play my game,” Vasilevskiy said last week. ”It’s very important, especially in the playoffs. Good or bad game, doesn’t matter. Turn the page, start over again and again. That’s how you get success.”
Vasilevskiy has found plenty of success this season, his first as a full-time NHL starter. The 23-year-old is a Vezina Trophy finalist after leading the league with 44 wins and eight shutouts.
But Vasilevskiy hasn’t made it easy on himself. He rarely does.
Cooper saw it during the 2016-17 season when Vasilevskiy struggled during a stretch of 10 consecutive starts when Ben Bishop was hurt and then again late this season when a swoon by him and the entire team almost cost Tampa Bay the East’s top seed. Vasilevskiy bounced back strong each time.
”His ability to be able to turn the page now and understand, `You know what there might be a tough night for you, but I’m going to go out the next night anyway and I’ve got to be there for my team,’ – I think that’s where his growth process has really come in,” Cooper said.
The same happened between Games 2 and 3 in this series. The shy Vasilevskiy who has been reluctant to do interviews told a pool reporter he didn’t make any adjustments from his worst games against the Capitals to his best.
Somehow, he has looked like an entirely different goalie. Chants of ”Vasy! Vasy!” filled Amalie Arena in Game 5 on Saturday night when he stopped 28 of 30 shots, and the highest praise was reserved for inside the Lightning’s locker room.
”He’s a world class goaltender, that’s what he does Authentic Kareem Hunt Jersey ,” defenseman Braydon Coburn said. ”He battles hard every day in practice all season long, and he’s raised his game in the playoffs here.”
No doubt his teammates have improved their play in front of Vasilevskiy, with defenseman Anton Stralman saying: ”We always feel like we owe him.” But against a star-studded Capitals team led by countrymen Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Vasilevskiy had to raise his game to give Tampa Bay any chance.
Lightning captain Steven Stamkos said confidence in Vasilevskiy never wavered, and he has showed them on the ice evidence of what they’ve seen all season.
”He just expects a lot,” Stamkos said. ”You see his work ethic every day in practice. You guys don’t get to see what goes on in the room, but his mental preparation, his physical preparation, he wants to be the best all the time. He doesn’t want to give up a goal at all, including in practice. That’s the mentality he has and that’s why he’s so good.”
If the Capitals can crack Vasilevskiy like they did the first two times, there will be a Game 7 on Wednesday night at Tampa Bay. But they’d better figure that out and get an even better game from Braden Holtby because the Lightning are 11-0 in the playoffs when scoring three-plus goals.
That record is thanks to Vasilevskiy, who doesn’t like cameras but loves playoff hockey.
”It’s definitely a fun time,” he said. ”Lot of emotions. Different hockey. It’s pretty fun to play. Just excitement level is pretty high. A different season.”
AP Sports Writer Fred Goodall in Tampa, Florida, contributed to this report.
Nikola Mirotic watched his third 3-pointer of the first half swish through the hoop, turned to acknowledge the raucous Authentic T.Y. Hilton Jersey , roaring crowd and raised his first triumphantly as he trotted back up court.
Portland had a hard enough time dealing with Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis and the New Orleans backcourt of Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo in Games 1 and 2. Pile on the finest playoff performance of Mirotic’s four NBA seasons, and the rout was on in Game 3.
Mirotic scored a career playoff-best 30 points to go with eight rebounds, three steals and a block, and the Pelicans pushed Portland to the brink of elimination with a 119-102 victory on Thursday night.
”I never thought I’d score 30 or something like that,” Mirotic said. ”I’m just trying to play simple. If I have a shot, take a shot, so I need to give credit to my teammates. … It’s just about the team. It’s about winning.”
To illustrate how hard New Orleans has been to defend in the series, Portland coach Terry Stotts made a point of noting that Mirotic was the third different Pelicans player to score 30 in a game. Davis had 35 in Game 1 and Holiday 33 in Game 2.
”New Orleans played extremely well,” Stotts said. ”We arguably had one of our worst games of the year, so it was a bad combination.”
Davis had 28 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for New Orleans, which can advance past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2008 with one more victory. Game 4 is Saturday.
The 6-foot-10 Mirotic, acquired in a midseason trade after DeMarcus Cousins‘ season-ending Achilles tear, made 12 of 15 shots, scoring on everything from quick-release 3-pointers to cutting dunks and fast-break layups.
”I knew I was capable to have games like this Womens Saquon Barkley Jersey , but I never want to force any shots and always want to play simple, play for my teammates the same way they play for me,” Mirotic said. ”I just want to show them they were right to bring me here.”
Damian Lillard scored 20 for Portland, but missed nine of an unusually low 14 shots. He averaged about 19 shots per game this season, but said the Pelicans were defending him relentlessly.
”They’re making me give the ball up,” Lillard said. ”This is a different coverage than I’ve seen at any point in my career. … It’s two or three layers of defense. It’s tough to play against, man.”
CJ McCollum scored 22 and Al-Farouq Aminu added 21, but Portland trailed by double digits for most of the first half and all of the second.
The Blazers had no answer for a Pelicans offense orchestrated once again to prolific effect by Rondo, who had 16 points and 11 assists – giving him 37 assists in the series. Holiday added 16 points for New Orleans, which shot 53 percent (46 of 87).
Trail Blazers: Starting F Evan Turner was scratched because of his toe injury sustained during Game 2 on Tuesday night. Maurice Harkless started in his place, scoring five points in 26 minutes. … The Blazers committed 24 turnovers, leading to 29 Pelicans points. … Finished 9 of 31 from 3-point range.
Pelicans: Cousins was on the bench, attending his first game in New Orleans since his injury on Jan. 26. When he was shown cheering on his teammates on the main scoreboard, fans erupted into chants of ”Boogie! Boogie!” … The Pelicans shot 11 of 27 from 3-point range and 16 of 19 on free throws. … Scored 62 points in the paint and 32 on fast breaks.
SETTING THE TONE
The Pelicans wore alternate red uniforms and every fan was given a matching T-shirt, turning the entire packed seating area into a sea of red.
The volume was high early with the crowd revved up for the first playoff game in New Orleans since 2015.
The Blazers did nothing to silence the place, shooting about 35 percent and committing six turnovers in the opening quarter.
New Orleans raced to an 18-point lead in the period Womens Andy Dalton Jersey , aided by Mirotic hitting five of his first seven shots for 14 early points.
Mirotic scored 21 by halftime, which already represented a playoff career high.
Davis joined the fray with his typical array of alley-oop dunks, one of which he caught with his back to the basket and threw down with a two-handed reverse jam.
Rondo ran New Orleans’ offense with a tempo that gave Portland fits, and even when he was forced to settle for a deep 3 late in the shot clock, it went down, pushing the Pelicans’ lead to 20 in the first half.
Portland never got closer than 13 after that and trailed by as many as 33 in the fourth quarter.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said he’s not sure Mirotic’s decision to shave his beard had anything to do with his recent surge in production, but said the Pelicans are choosing to believe it does. He then added, ”Tell Niko, no 5 o’clock shadows, OK?”
The series remains in New Orleans for Game 4 on Saturday night, when the Pelicans have an opportunity to complete the first playoff series sweep in franchise history.

Antonio Brown didn’t skip out on the vast majority of the Pittsburgh Steelers organized team activities to make a statement. Or to disrespect the backup quarterbacks. Or to take a stand alongside running back Le’Veon Bell.
The All-Pro insists he simply felt more comfortable working out back home in Miami Womens Jordan Howard Jersey , where he could spend time with his five children and escape what he described as the ”pressure” he faces from outside forces daily in Pittsburgh.
”I needed that precious time with myself to get my mind right,” Brown said Tuesday as the Steelers began a mandatory three-day minicamp.
A move the 29-year-old star called necessary as he prepares for his ninth season. Brown is typically a fixture at the voluntary workouts, where he is usually among the few players in actual football pants instead of shorts.
This spring, however, he participated in the first two days and then jetted off to Florida. The fact that starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appeared for the first day of OTAs before taking time off for what he called a planned family vacation was purely coincidental.
”I play with any quarterback, no matter who’s here,” Brown said. ”I play with the Steelers. It’s not one guy that I (catch passes from).”
Brown dismissed any insinuation that he left OTAs because he didn’t want to work with the second or third string. He also expressed frustration with media for asking other players to comment on his absence.
”You guys making up stories to ask these guys stuff that they shouldn’t be dealing with,” Brown said. ”You know, that’s the pressure of being a professional athlete. Everyday scrutiny. Everyday pressure. It’s hard to be free.”
Brown, however, struggled to be specific about how the attention that comes with being one of the NFL’s top players negatively affects him.
The only player to have five consecutive seasons with at least 100 receptions stressed he wasn’t calling out Bell when he was questioned last month about Bell’s decision to stay away from the team while waiting to sign his franchise tender.
”You guys paint me a picture to talk about Le’Veon,” Brown said. ”I’m not involved in Le’Veon’s business or his contract. You guys write about it and say `Oh, AB says to show up.’ I just say `The first rule of getting better is show up.’ I didn’t say he got to show up. He’s got his own business.”
The comments by the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver are a bit at odds with the persona he’s cultivated during a career in which he has evolved from a sixth-round pick to a perennial Pro Bowler. His Instagram feed is updated multiple times a day and gives 2.4 million followers access to workouts Authentic Khalil Mack Jersey , highlights, video of his children running track meets or artsy cuts of the multiple Rolls Royces in his driveway.
Lately, though, the posts have taken a different turn. Last week, he called out former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians for labeling him simply as a “special teams guy” and even tweaked coach Mike Tomlin for benching him in favor of Emmanuel Sanders during his rookie season in 2010. Pressed for an explanation, Brown hinted he’s tired of toeing the company line.
”I think you’ve got to start expressing those things that year by year that you go through to get them out of your head,” Brown said. ”I think the more you bottle stuff up and you’re not aware of expressing yourself, that’s when these players have problems.”
Brown’s work ethic has never been in question. As his profile has risen – he’s one of the league’s most marketable players and his exuberant touchdown celebrations have taken on a life of their own – he’s attempted to give longer glimpses into the regimen that’s made him one of the most prolific receivers of his generation. Those posts continued even as he said he wanted to create more time for himself.
”I took a moment to get my mind right from organized team activities,” Brown said. ”It wasn’t even like serious. It’s not even mandatory. It’s volunteer.”
Brown is no longer concerned about his stats but the number of titles he’s won, which remains at zero. It’s the one thing left on his career checklist and the one he feels his career will be judged by. That remains his sole focus even as he lives in a fish bowl of which he’s been a willing architect.
”The game requires a lot of mental happiness and the older you get the more you start thinking about the things that are important,” he said. ”I’ve got five kids, a lot of family … the only thing left for me to do playing the game is to win a championship. I had to take a little time to spend time with my family and see what’s important for me.”
A familiar face on offense and a fresh voice on defense headline the changes to Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy’s revamped staff in the wake of the team’s first losing season since 2008.
Joe Philbin, a Packers assistant from 2003 until 2012 Womens Allen Robinson Jersey , was hired Wednesday as offensive coordinator, a job he held for his final five seasons before being named the Miami Dolphins’ head coach in January 2012. On defense, the Packers tabbed Mike Pettine, the ex-Cleveland Browns head coach who built successful defenses with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills but was largely out of football the last two years, serving as a consultant with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017.
McCarthy has also installed run- and pass-game coordinators on each side of the ball. On defense, former cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt was promoted to pass-game coordinator, while new inside linebackers coach Patrick Graham will serve as the run-game coordinator. On offense, longtime offensive line coach James Campen will be the run-game coordinator, while new hire Jim Hostler, who coached wide receivers with Philbin in Indianapolis the past two seasons, will serve as the pass-game coordinator.
It’s all part of a staff overhaul that was the biggest of McCarthy’s tenure as he enters his 13th season as head coach.
”It’s like Year 1,” McCarthy said in introducing the new staff. ”Not only is the defense building a new playbook, so are we on the offense. We’re tightening that approach. And it’s been great. You have new input Womens Roquan Smith Jersey , you have new experiences that are in the room. You have a different way of saying the same thing. It’s been exciting. The energy is over the top.”
The changes come on the heels of a 7-9 season in which two-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed 10 games with a broken right collarbone. It marked the end of an eight-year streak of playoff appearances – the longest in franchise history – and led to defensive coordinator Dom Capers, offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett and multiple position coaches being let go.
This is the first time McCarthy has changed both the offense and defensive coordinator in the same year. The seven new staffers are the most since Capers and an almost entirely new defensive staff arrived in 2009.
For Philbin, returning to the Packers was a matter of timing. On Jan. 8, 2012, his 21-year-old son, Michael, drowned in the icy Fox River near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.
”It’s very, very emotional for all of us,” Philbin said of returning to Green Bay, roughly an hour north of where his son’s body was found. ”But we care and love a lot of people here, and a lot of people care about and love us. So it’s not easy, but this is what’s so special about Green Bay. Ultimately you want to contribute, you want to help people you care about and want to be with. At the end of the day Womens Mitchell Trubisky Jersey , that I feel very good about when I put my head down at night.”
In Pettine, the Packers have a coordinator whose defenses have never finished out of the top 10. And after going 10-22 in two seasons in Cleveland, Pettine made it clear he is not taking the job so he can become a head coach again.
”When I was the head coach, I didn’t enjoy the lack of interaction with the actual football part of it,” Pettine said. ”I always made the comparison, it was going from being the teacher to now you’re the principal. . And I didn’t like it. I missed the camaraderie of the room, the interaction with the staff, the interaction with the players. The chess-game part of it – the designing a game plan tailored to your opponent.”
The Packers have not had a top-flight defense since 2010, when they last won the Super Bowl.
”We’re going to be prepared. It’s about paying attention to detail,” Pettine said. ”There’s no magical (formula). People talk about scheme, what kind of playbook – that’s a very small part of playing great defense. … (When) you look at us, you’re going to see we’re going to be multiple and we’re going to be aggressive.”

The Tennessee Titans remain winless through three preseason games with a brand-new coaching staff busy trying to fix issues on offense and defense.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota and his No. 1 wide receiver Corey Davis had trouble connecting on not one Andre Holmes Jersey , but two third downs. Both Mariota and Davis tried to take the blame for the miscommunication in a 16-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.
On Sunday, first-year head coach Mike Vrabel tried to absolve both Mariota and Davis by taking the blame himself.
"Up until this point, I haven't done a good enough job making sure that both those guys know where each other's going to be on every single route," Vrabel said.
"And I'll make sure that that happens because the guy throwing the ball and the guy catching the ball those are the only two guys that really at that point in time matter."
Mariota had driven the Titans to touchdowns on two of their first three drives this preseason.
Yet both the quarterback and the Titans offense managed just 52 yards in the first half with Mariota sacked twice and intercepted once. Mariota finished 5 of 8 for 43 yards.
Davis Braden Smith Jersey , the fifth overall pick in 2017 and first wide receiver drafted , has yet to catch a pass in a preseason game. A hamstring injury kept him out of the preseason last year, and he has not caught a pass in his two games this preseason.
The Titans are installing a new offense, Mariota's third going into his fourth NFL season. They had a chance for a big play on the opening drive on third-and-8 when Davis ran toward the end zone based on coverage with Mariota throwing to where the quarterback had expected his receiver to be. Mariota overthrew Davis on third-and-6 across the middle on their second drive.
Vrabel said the Titans will be relying heavily on both Mariota and Davis this season. Vrabel called it unfortunate that there was some uncertainty when Davis was uncovered.
"It's important that Corey and Marcus are on the same page Jason Spriggs Jersey ," Vrabel said.
Along with trust, the Titans need much more consistency. Mariota hit Tajae Sharpe with an 11-yard pass on third-and-10 to keep the first drive moving. Derrick Henry converted a third-and-1 on the same drive that ended in a punt.
The Titans went three-and-out on the next two drives before Mariota threw across his body and was intercepted to end his fourth and final drive.
"Consistency is going to be something that's important," Vrabel said.
The Titans also have issues to clean up on defense where cornerback Adoree Jackson was beaten on the Steelers' lone touchdown, a 32-yard pass. Linebacker Jayon Brown was flagged for hitting a defenseless receiver Leonard Floyd Jersey , though Vrabel has asked the NFL to clarify the penalty he thought was lowering-the-head-to-initiate contact.
Penalties remain an issue with Tennessee flagged nine times for 51 yards, improvement from a week ago when the Titans were penalized 11 times for 134 yards in a loss to Tampa Bay.
The Titans wrap up the preseason Thursday night by hosting Minnesota (2-1). Vrabel's focus is on fixing issues while trying to continue healing as many players as possible before opening the season Sept. 9 at Miami. A total of 12 Titans didn't play in Pittsburgh, including six starters.
"We just got to find out who's going to be ready for us on a short week," Vrabel said.
