von liny195 20.12.2018 08:04 , we turned to SB Nation’s Cat Scratch Reader for this week’s “5 questions” segment. Walker Clement of CSR answers our questions.Ed: Mike Shula is now in New York and Norv Turner is Carolina’s offensive coordinator. I see Cam Newton completing a career-high percentage of passes and Christian McCaffrey playing well. How has the Carolina offense changed?Walker: Norv Turner was brought in to run the same offense Shula ran. Cam has basically been in the same system with different coordinators since Rivera got here and that is a system that Rivera stole from Turner when he left San Diego to become Carolina’s head coach. Expect to see a run-first offense with a lot of zone read and options plays. They’ll start there, mix in some short passes to McCaffrey, and then try to hit you deep when your safeties eyes are glued to the offensive backfield.Ed: You’re game-planning FOR THE GIANTS against the Panthers. How do you attack them on offense and defense?Walker: The Panthers are going to be confident that James Bradberry can hold his own in coverage against Odell Beckham, Jr. That’s not to say he won’t get safety help from time to time, but he will have his one on one match-ups and he will probably follow Beckham around the field. Bradberry is a quieter player than Josh Norman, however, so don’t expect a repeat of that 2015 game. With Luke Kuechly keeping everybody up front focused on Saquon Barkley, the edge of the game might fall to Sterling Shepard vs Donte Jackson. He’s a rookie, but he is lightning fast and has great hands. If I were the Panthers, I’d be trying to set up situations where he can lure Manning into some bad decisions and try to force a few turn overs.Ed: Who are some under-the-radar players Giants fans should watch for on Sunday?Walker: The Panthers defense is all well known at this point. Donte Jackson has three picks so far as a rookie. Julius Peppers is timeless until he proves otherwise. Eric Reid is a big question mark for a known player, but definitely not under the radar. Look to our number one corner, James Bradberry, who has a strong record of keeping himself and number one receivers out of the headlines.Their offense is a different story. The names to watch for on third down are Jarius Wright, a free agent acquisition from the Vikings, and Ian Thomas, a fourth-round draft pick. They’ll be the guys the Giants defense will forget about until they convert a third-and-6.Ed: If you could take any player off the Giants roster other than Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. and put him in the Panthers lineup who would it be?Walker: Chad Wheeler. The Panthers have played or intended to play Matt Kalil Ray-Ray Armstrong Jersey , Daryl Williams, Corey Robinson, Taylor Moton, Chris Clark, Amini Silatolu, and Jeremiah Sirles at one or both tackle positions since training camp. Currently, Moton, Clark, Silatolu, and a newly traded for Marshall Newhouse are left standing. A talented, young, and healthy athlete at either end of the offensive line could mean everything for Cam’s already well-paced year.Ed: How has the Carolina fan base reacted to the signing of Eric Reid? What are your personal thoughts?Walker: We actually ran a twitter poll - I know, very scientific - two days before they signed him. Eighty-eight percent of respondents were in favor of signing him. The reactions we have had since have roughly matched those results. A few idiots have threatened to burn their tickets or their first born or whatever, but most people seem to recognize that he represents a major step forward for the Panthers on many levels. When multiple Giants claimed after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers to have no knowledge of the inflammatory and bizarre remarks made by receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. in an ESPN interview that debuted on Sunday, they were telling the truth.Per a league source Janoris Jenkins Jersey , Giants players weren’t aware of what Beckham said after the game. As of Monday evening, many of them still didn’t know.Yes, Beckham addressed the team on Saturday night and issued an apology, but there were no specifics shared about his comments regarding offensive schemes, regarding quarterback Eli Manning, or regarding his “that’s a tough question” response when facing the very simply yes-or-no question of whether he’s happy in New York. The fact that the Giants have a short-week game against the Eagles and no Tuesday off makes it even less likely that they’ve watched the video, seen any TV discussion about it, or read any online blurbs about it.As the source said, “If it’s not about Fortnite, most of the players aren’t paying attention.”That’s good news for the Giants, in the short term. By the time the players have time to pay attention to Beckham’s comments or their aftermath, they will have played a second game — and they’ll be enjoying the mini-bye that comes after a Thursday night game.Whether that’s good news for the Giants in the long term remains to be seen. Beckham’s comments, as explained by Rodney Harrison of Football Night in America during Tuesday’s PFT Live, underscore the absence of accountability when it comes to Beckham, who quickly became the face of the franchise and a larger-than-life figure for the franchise.

Now it’s on the road and we have to make sure we get better and better every game,” Niederreiter said. ”We’re definitely on the right track. Even today, the guys played very good and at the end of the day, we lost in a shootout so sometimes you have that luck on your side. Sometimes you don’t.”Anaheim won for the third time in 22 games when trailing after two periods. Ramsey has done a lot of talking off the field and to this point in his career Youth Sterling Shepard Jersey , he’s back all of that talk up on it.Ramsey, the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has been one the league’s best cornerbacks since he stepped onto the field as a rookie. He was a big part of a defense that ranked first in DVOA last season. Individually he was one of the hardest corners to pass on in the league. Per Football Outsiders, Ramsey ranked eighth among 81 qualified cornerbacks in yards allowed per pass and seventh in success rate. He was one of six corners to finish among the top 10 in both categories. One of the others was Ramsey’s teammate A.J. Bouye, who ranked 10th in both. While this is going to focus on Ramsey, we can’t ignore the impact Bouye has on the defense. But even with two shutdown corners on the roster, Ramsey more often takes over the lead role. Per the Football Outsiders Almanac, Jacksonville kept their cornerbacks on sides of the field 78 percent of the time, the 16th-highest rate in the league. When the Jaguars did move the corners around, it was to keep Ramsey on an opponent’s top receiver. It even moved into the slot, where Ramsey spent nine percent of his coverage snaps, per Pro Football Focus. And with that, Jacksonville ranked first in DVOA against opposing No. 1 receivers along with just 42 yards allowed per game. With a 6-foot-1, 208-pound frame and 4.4 speed, Ramsey has a size/speed/strength combination not many cornerbacks possess and he takes advantage of it on every snap. The multitude of ways Ramsey can attack makes him such a hard draw for any opposing wide receiver. While Ramsey’s 6-1 height is around the 82nd percentile among NFL cornerbacks, his 33 鈪?arm length puts him in the 96th percentile. He uses that arm length in a variety of ways, one of which is what makes him among the best press corners in the league. The below is a third-and-10 against the Los Angeles Rams. Ramsey lined up tight against Sammy Watkins on the left side of the field.Ramsey initiated contact right off the line and Watkins was not able to fight off the cornerback early. When quarterback Jared Goff got to the top of his drop Alec Ogletree Jersey , Watkins was barely three yards past the line of scrimmage. That type of coverage on the outside opens up the rest of the defense to cover elsewhere. As Watkins is locked down, the single-high safety is able to cover the seam route over the top two defenders underneath that route. The other side of the field potentially has two linebackers on the tight end with the underneath defender able to cover the running back out of the backfield. Also in the slot, A.J. Bouye can sit off Robert Woods who was a checkdown option well short of the first down marker. This tight coverage allows the defensive line to collapse the pocket and with nowhere to throw the ball, Goff gets hit by Calais Campbell for a sack. That size also allows Ramsey to divert routes to the sideline. The below is a first-and-10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Antonio Brown during the regular season. After the snap, Ramsey made contact with Brown about five yards past the line of scrimmage then positioned himself inside so Brown could only fade his route down the sideline. As the pair got further down the field, the window for a throw to fit got smaller and while Brown was able to bring in the ball over Ramsey in coverage, he didn’t have enough room to get his feet in bounds and the pass was ruled incomplete.Ramsey is so good at using his leverage and keeping receivers close to the sideline, which decreases the chance of a catch. He does that here on a second-and-7 against DeAndre Hopkins. For a lot of press corners, that’s where it stops. But Ramsey also has the speed and instincts to play off receivers and still make an impact. Take this play against the Seattle Seahawks from Week 14. After motion, Ramsey is about seven yards off the line of scrimmage across from Doug Baldwin. With such long strides and abrupt quickness, Ramsey was able to backpedal nearly 15 yards — around 20 past the line of scrimmage — before he needed to flip his hips and run with his back to the quarterback. This put him in position to stay back to prevent the deep pass and also have the ability to break on the route if cut short. The pass ended up being a deep pass to the end zone, but with Ramsey in superior position the whole way, he was able to push past Baldwin and put himself in the better position to make the catch for an interception. It’s possible for Ramsey to sit back like that because he might be the best corner in the league at breaking on the ball. His ability to read the quarterback and receiver in addition to his quickness makes him a threat to make a play regardless of the receiver or the route. This is something that became an emphasis for the Jaguars last season — allowing Ramsey to do more things that make him special. After some vocal concerns with the defensive scheme in 2016, defensive coordinator Todd Wash loosened up some of the responsibilities for his star corner. “He’s opened up [the defense] a lot,” Ramsey told Mike Kaye of the First Coast News last October. “The base stuff that we run is primarily the same but he’s given us more freedom - I would say - to make plays, go out and take gambles and just kind of be free without techniques. We’ve been able to add to our toolboxes and been able to do different little stuff that helps us be successful on Sunday.”The below play came on a third-and-7 against the Indianapolis Colts. Ramsey was lined up against T.Y. Hilton on the right side of the formation (top of screen). Ramsey started to bail before the snap and sat back a few yards behind the first down marker. When Hilton turned to break off his route at the marker, Ramsey planted and broke on the ball for a near interception.Per Football Outsiders 4Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey , Ramsey led all cornerbacks in “defeats” last season. They consider a defeat (1) a tackle that results in a loss of yardage, including sacks (2) any play that results in a turnover, including tipped passes which are then intercepted, or (3) any tackle or tipped pass that leads to a stop on third or fourth down. The pass breakup against Hilton would count as a defeat. Last season Ramsey made a habit of showing up in all three categories. Here’s another play against Brown and the Steelers. Ramsey was again one-on-one with Brown (bottom of the screen). Ramsey played off and at about 12 yards into the route, Brown broke inside and created a decent amount of separation from the cornerback.Against almost any other cornerback, that’s going to be enough for an easy Brown catch in the middle of the field. But with Ramsey’s recovery speed and a throw that ended up a little high, Ramsey was able to get a hand on the pass and tip it to safety Barry Church — who had dropped back from the line of scrimmage to a middle of the field robber in the scheme — for a pick-six.Later in the season Ramsey made a similar play against the Chargers. Ramsey lined up against Keenan Allen, who might be the league’s best route runner, on third-and-1. Ramsey played a little tighter here, but again he was able to read the receiver on his break. With a little pressure in Philip Rivers’s face, the quarterback delivered a rushed high pass that Ramsey was able to tip the ball up for a near interception by defensive tackle Arby Jones — the play was first ruled an interception, but reversed on replay.Ramsey isn’t unbeatable, but he can win in so many different ways it takes a special effort to get the better of him. That’s what Odell Beckham will be tasked with on most of his routes come Sunday. What a way to be welcomed back to the field for the Giants’ top receiver. New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles. Two teams, and fan bases, that largely don’t like each other. With a game between the NFC East rivals looming Thursday, let’s venture into enemy territory and learn some things about the Eagles. Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation answers our 5 questions.Ed: What is your assessment of the Eagles thus far? I thought they would win this division in a cakewalk, and they still might Eli Manning Jersey , but I’m surprised to see them at 2-3.Brandon: It’s safe to say the reigning Super Bowl champs have been a disappointment through the first five games of the season. This has been a team that just can’t stop shooting themselves in the foot. Take their most recent loss to the Vikings for example. After finally starting to string a promising drive together, Lane Johnson allows Carson Wentz to get strip-sacked and Linval Joseph recovers for a touchdown. Then they get another drive going and actually move into the red zone but Jay Ajayi fumbles at the 5-yard line. The Eagles recover a fumble at the Vikings’ 30-yard line with a chance to take the lead and then proceed to knock themselves out of scoring range by taking an illegal formation penalty followed by a grounding call. Mistakes are always going to happen during the game but it feels like the Eagles continue to make theirs at the worst times. Part of the reason the Eagles haven’t been able to get out of their own way is they have a number of position groups that are underperforming. The offensive line is arguably the biggest disappointment in this regard. After having one of the best lines in the league last season, Philly’s front is suddenly struggling to protect Carson Wentz. The third-year quarterback has been sacked 12 times and hit 27 times during his first three games back from ACL injury. I certainly don’t need to lecture Giants fans on the importance of offensive line play.Jim Schwartz’s defense isn’t off the hook, either. The Eagles’ secondary has been far too leaky. Philadelphia ranks 26th in big-play rate allowed. In the Eagles’ past two games, opposing quarterbacks have combined for 60/80 (75% completion), 645 yards (8.1 average), 4 TD, 1 INT, and a 98.8 passer rating. Put simply, the Eagles just aren’t playing like a good team right now.Ed: How much are they hurt by the loss of Jay Ajayi, and if the Eagles are indeed interested in a LeSean McCoy reunion is that something you would be in favor of?Brandon: Losing Jay Ajayi is significant because he’s the Eagles’ most talented running back, when healthy. The problem is he hasn’t been healthy this year. Prior to tearing his ACL, he suffered a fractured bone in his back during Week 2. I don’t know how he managed to play through both that AND a torn ACL against the Vikings, but that just goes to show you he’s one tough dude.Ajayi is the Eagles’ leading rusher this season with 184 carries and three touchdowns on 45 attempts. He hasn’t been Philly’s most efficient ball-carrier, though. Surprisingly, fourth-string running back Wendell Smallwood leads the team in rush average at 6.0. In addition to his 150 yards on 25 carries, he’s logged 10 receptions for 96 yards and one score. He’s far from an elite back but he deserves some credit for stepping up.With Smallwood playing well and Corey Clement returning Authentic Odell Beckham Jr Jersey , I’m not ready to flat out panic about the Eagles’ running back situation. Those guys can be at least solid behind an Eagles offensive line that’s struggled in pass protection but has looked good while run blocking. But there’s certainly a lot of room to improve and getting a top weapon like Le’Veon Bell or LeSean McCoy would be really nice right now. The Eagles’ offense rank 28th in big-play rate. They need more play-makers.From a football standpoint, I think McCoy could make sense for the Eagles depending on the cost. From a personal standpoint, I don’t love the idea of rooting on McCoy given all the off-field stuff that’s going on with him.Ed: Where do you think the Eagles have a clear advantage in this game?Brandon: Well, in theory the Eagles’ defensive line should be able to get to Eli Manning. The Giants’ offensive line ranks 24th overall by Pro Football Focus. Football Outsiders, meanwhile, has New York ranked 31st in run blocking and 26th in adjusted sack rate. It seems like the Giants should struggle against an Eagles pass rush that’s generating the highest percent of plays where the opposing quarterback has been under pressure (57%), per PFF. The Eagles could very well make life difficult on Eli Manning and force him into some bad throws and/or sacks.Ed: Where do you think the Giants could have an advantage?Brandon: On the other hand, the Eagles’ pass rush didn’t really faze the Giants last year. Manning had two of his best games of the season against Philly. The Giants were able to get the ball out quick and it felt like the Eagles couldn’t stop the same slant route that the Giants were running over and over. The Giants should even be more difficult to defend now that Odell Beckham Jr. is back. You can be Pat Shurmur will try to get OBJ matched up against Eagles starting cornerback Jalen Mills, who has struggled this season. During last year’s Week 3 Eagles-Giants game, Mills was targeted a whopping 21 TIMES. New York saw a weakness and they tried to exploit it. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them go after Mills again this year.Ed: If you could have one player off the Giants roster for the Eagles NOT named Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham, who would you take?Brandon: I’ll take Landon Collins. The Eagles are dangerously thin at safety right now with Rodney McLeod out for the season and veteran backup Corey Graham now dealing with a hamstring issue. Philadelphia’s three healthy safeties include: Malcolm Jenkins, Avonte Maddox, and Deiondre’ Hall. Jenkins is obviously a great player. Maddox isn’t even a real safety. The rookie cornerback never played on the back end of the defense until two weeks ago. The Eagles acquired Hall during final cuts and he hasn’t seen any defensive playing time despite the fact Philly is depleted at safety. Collins would fill the Eagles’ biggest need. I also considered Damon Harrison because he’s dominant and the Eagles are getting nothing out of their defensive tackles not named Fletcher Cox. Sterling Shepard would also help an Eagles wide receiving corps that’s not giving the team a ton right now.

Chicago last won a regular-season game in Philadelphia on Nov. 9, 1996.The Blackhawks have lost six straight games and two in a row under coach Jeremy Colliton. The 33-year-old Colliton replaced Joel Quenneville, the NHL’s second-winningest regular-season coach who was fired on Tuesday after 10 seasons at the helm.Elliott was solid all game and made some key saves in the third period, including stopping Patrick Kane from close range on a Blackhawks power play, while recording his 38th career shutout. — where do they go from here? Heart. Energy. Big downfield throws and some final drive magic from Eli Manning. Odell Beckham Jr. finally getting into the end zone. Saquon Barkley scoring twice. Fighting back from a 27-16 fourth-quarter deficit. Eclipsing the 30-point mark for the first time in 38 games.Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers had everything the New York Giants could have wanted. Except for the victory they so desperately needed. What is it about the Giants and the bad karma of 60+ yard game-ending field goals? In Week 3 of 2017 Cheap Customized New York Giants Jerseys , Jake Elliott of the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Giants with a 61-yarder as time expired. Sunday, Graham Gano drove a dagger into their season with a 63-yarder as time expired that sent the 1-4 Giants to a 33-31 defeat. An angry, raw day for the GiantsBeckham’s comments to ESPN reporter Josina Anderson, aired to a national TV audience and made with rapper L’il Wayne along for the ride, cut the Giants open. The remarks first surfaced on Friday, and they caused coach Pat Shurmur to make Beckham apologize to the team.Shurmur had to be wounded by Beckham’s decision to air his gripes the way he did. The coach has invested tons of time and effort into building a relationship with Beckham, something neither Tom Coughlin nor Ben McAdoo were able to do. Until Friday, all signs were that it had worked. Shurmur had every right to be “livid” with Beckham, as a FOX Sports report indicated was the case. The bleeding hadn’t stopped after the game, something made obvious by the challenging, emotional tone of his post-game remarks. The way the game unfolded didn’t stanch the wound. It pretty much just ripped it open wider, or opened up a whole bunch of new wounds. The phantom unnecessary roughness call on Landon Collins was perhaps the game-changing play. Instead of a Carolina punt, the Panthers were gifted a first down at the Giants’ 44-yard line and turned it into a touchdown that gave them a 26-17 lead with less that 12 minutes to play. Shurmur said he saw Collins “making a play on the ball with no attempt, no attempt to target the receiver.” Several Giants players will be sure to see the NFL lighten their wallets this week after their angry reactions, especially Damon Harrison, who said the Giants had the win “stolen” from them. The questionable giving of a first down to Carolina running back Christian McCaffrey on a third-and-1 at the Giants’ 46-yard line, and the replay booth’s failure to stop the action and review it Color Rush Alec Ogletree Jersey , was another wound-inducing officiating blunder. That didn’t end up changing the distance of the kick, but the Panthers — out of timeouts — were gifted a first down with 12 seconds left and could then control the clock rather than having to rush Gano onto the field for a harried kick in the waning seconds likely made a huge difference. The gut punch of watching Gano’s kick, which tied the NFL record for the longest game-winning kick ever, sail through the uprights, was just final cruel knife twist for the Giants. But, was it a mortal blow? The Giants are 1-4. They have to regroup quickly and get ready for a Thursday Night Football game against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium. When the Giants took a similar gut punch last season, losing to the Eagles on a 61-yard game-ending field goal by Jake Elliott after staging a furious fourth-quarter rally, you could tell from the blank faces and the beaten voices in the post-game locker room that the season was over. There was no anger. There was just shock. And resignation. After that, the season — as all Giants fans know — went all the way off the rails. Will that happen this time?I don’t think so. The Giants are angry now. Not shocked and resigned. They hurt themselves in a lot of ways on Sunday. Beckham wounded them with his words. Manning threw two interceptions before rediscovering the late-game magic that once was routine, throwing two touchdown passes in the final 8:53 and giving the Giants a chance to win. Beckham messed up a punt that cost the Giants a touchdown and he dropped a fourth-and-3 pass that cost them an early scoring opportunity. Saquon Barkley had runs of 30 and 20 yards, yet somehow managed only 48 total rushing yards on 15 carries. The pass rush was mostly non-existent. The tackling was often shoddy. A lot of good things happened, though. The best thing was that the Giants, as Shurmur said, “played hard” and “played tough.”They kept going. Despite falling behind 17-3. Despite the special teams’ mistakes. Despite the two second-half interceptions. Despite losing a fumble recovery because Curtis Riley was out of bounds. Despite their own all-too-apparent shortcomings. Despite the poor work by the officials. The Giants made plays. They dug deep into the playbook for a home run pass from Beckham to Barkley. Despite the awful run-blocking they gave the ball to Barkley often enough for him to create a couple of spectacular runs. They attacked down the field on offense. They kept working on defense, kept trying to hold Carolina at bay. They didn’t pack it in when it was 26-17 and the game looked lost.I have no idea what the rest of the season will be like for the Giants. Maybe they are on their way to another 3-13 season. Maybe they can use their anger, whether it’s at Beckham, the officials Youth Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey , the football Gods who control 60-yard field goals, the media, the schedule-makers for making them play the Eagles on short rest, as a springboard to better results over the final 11 games.I do know, however, that I like these angry 2018 Giants have a better chance of getting things right before the season ends the 2017 version of the Giants ever had.Plays that tell the story of Friday’s victory by the Giants over the Jets Let’s take a look back at some of the plays that tell various parts of the story of the New York Giants’ 22-16 victory over the New York Jets on Friday night in NFL preseason action. They aren’t in any particular order.Curtis Riley takes a bad angleRiley, an obscure free agent pickup from the Tennessee Titans, has emerged as the Giants likely starter at free safety. Unless, of course, there is an unexpected roster move that shuffles that position. The play below doesn’t inspire confidence. This is the 10-yard first-quarter touchdown run by Bilal Powell of the Jets. Riley is lined up at safety near the goal line on the left hash. He reads and reacts to the play beautifully, but can’t make the stop. To my eyes, that’s because he is too eager, too aggressive. He tries to go under slot corner B.W. Webb for the big play and can’t get there. If he goes over, or behind, Webb he probably stops Powell somewhere around the 7-yard line. The best thing about Riley’s play so far this preseason is that he has barely been noticed. Here, I noticed him in a way that wasn’t positive.Overall, coach Pat Shurmur thought Riley “did a nice job” vs. the Jets. Shurmur also noted that the hamstring injury suffered by Darian Thompson Authentic Rhett Ellison Jersey , Riley’s primary competition at free safety, is “really lingering.”Hunter Sharp’s 55-yard punt returnThere are sooo many good things to talk about on this play it’s hard to know where to begin. Let’s start by actually looking at the play again. The first thing about this play is something the GIF doesn’t actually show. At what would be the bottom of the screen, the direction in which Sharp returned the punt, Michael Thomas and Eli Apple take the Jets gunner out of the play. On film, you see the gunner try to take an inside release. Apple and Thomas go with it, and ride him clear across to the other side of the field. That caves in everything to Sharp’s right, and starts the big play.Next, at the top of the screen Janoris Jenkins does a great job keeping a Jet off Sharp and an unidentifiable Giant at the bottom niftily avoids a blocking in the back penalty. Sharp’s teammates plow the road down the right side with Ray-Ray Armstrong (55) leveling a Jet and Russell Shepard driving Jets punter Lachlan Edwards to the turf. When is the last time the Giants blocked a return this well?Oh, and Sharp’s stiff-arm is pretty cool, too.B.W. Webb gives up a scoreWebb played the first half and continues to look as though he will be the starting slot cornerback. Here, though, he loses a 1-on-1 matchup with Terrelle Pryor and surrenders a touchdown. In the slot at the bottom of the screen you can see Webb matched up with Pryor. At the top of Pryor’s shallow crossing route you can see that he gets his hand on Webb and creates separation. Webb is in chase mode immediately and never has a chance. In live action, this looked like a blown coverage by linebacker B.J. Goodson. It wasn’t, though, as the linebacker tried in vain to bail Webb out.Slot corner continues to be a concern. Donte Deayon played much of the second half in that spot as he returned from injury. Oh my, OmamehThis play turned into a 5-yard loss for Wayne Gallman.I might be right here and I might not be, but what I see as the primary problem on this play is a missed block by right guard Patrick Omameh. Jets defensive tackle Leonard Williams is lined up over Giants center Jon Halapio Authentic Kerry Wynn Jersey , but on this play Halapio pulls and it appears to be Omameh’s job to get to Williams. He can’t get there quickly enough, allowing Williams to get into the backfield and blow up the play. There has been some speculation, even amongst writers here at Big Blue View, that Omameh could be playing himself out of a starting job. There has been no indication that is the case, though, when it comes to practice or game reps. Using Eli’s wheelsManning, especially at 37, will never be known for his fleet feet. That, however, doesn’t mean the Giants can’t move him around like they do on the play below.I chose to highlight this as a play worth mentioning because it shows a couple of things that haven’t been used enough in recent years — play action and moving the pocket so Manning isn’t a stationary target. Manning has always excelled at play action, which was a staple of his success back in the Kevin Gilbride era.“I believe that every quarterback needs to use his legs to some degree. I think if you do enough other things well on offense, and I do believe that you have to move the launch point for the throws which sometimes means the play action game or moving the pocket, so I believe in that and I do believe that any quarterback can do it to some degree,” Shurmur said. “Eli moves around well enough where he can execute some of that stuff.”This play is also impressive because it is Manning moving left and then re-setting himself and delivering a strike. When is the last time we’ve seen the Giants move Manning in this fashion? Whenever it was, it was too long ago. This play also allows me to segue into this from Brian Baldinger:NOTE: Hopefully, we will do more of these when time permits during the season.

Womens Mike McGlinchey Jersey , and it looks like it could be a busy one. The Oakland Raiders traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys for a first round pick on Monday, and now the New York Giants have traded cornerback Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints. Adam Schefter is reporting the Saints are sending a 4th-round pick in 2019 and a 7th-round pick in 2020 to complete the deal. The Saints have been looking for cornerback help, with injuries and inconsistency hurting them the first seven weeks. New Orleans is 5-1 and sitting on top of the NFC South. The Rams are the team to beat in the NFC right now, but without much else really stepping up thus far, it makes sense for the Saints to get aggressive at a position of need. This could mean the Cardinals are holding out for a particularly high price for cornerback Patrick Peterson. He wants out, and is the best cornerback on the market. Even if the Cardinals weren’t holding out for a ridiculous price, it would still cost significantly more than what the Saints appear to have given up for a solid addition in Apple. The 49ers have a need at cornerback with Richard Sherman dealing with a calf injury Womens Fred Warner Jersey , and the rest of the group struggling with anything resembling consistency — well, consistently good, I suppose.John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have some decisions to make between now and next Tuesday as they look to the present and the future. This is a team playing 2018 to evaluate young players for 2019 and figure out what they need to do to surround Jimmy Garoppolo on offense and DeForest Buckner on defense with more talent. On Monday, Shanahan was asked if the team would be looking for options as the trade deadline approaches. He explained the value of improving, but also considering long-term implications. The next week will give us a better handle on where things might be headed over the course of next offseason.Rams have a firm grip on NFC West into Week 6 I got some bad news for you, and no it’s not that the San Francisco 49ers are a bad team that can’t even beat the winless Arizona Cardinals. The Los Angeles Rams won. Again. In Seattle. The NFC West duked it out this weekend with the Niners and Cardinals facing each other and then the aforementioned Rams/Seahawks contest. It’s not looking good. Let’s look at those standings. Los Angeles Rams/Seattle SeahawksFor once we are rooting for the Seahawks to slow the Rams down. Shouldn’t be too hard right? They are in Century Link Field after all. Well except that’s forgetting that the Seahawks aren’t very good this year. They put on a huge effort, but the Rams win shootouts and were able to walk out with a 33-31 win. What was strange is how the Seahawks offensive line held up against the Rams defense. It wasn’t awful (which is saying something) , but even if it gave Russell Wilson some time not normally found, it still wasn’t enough. The Rams win puts them at 5-0 and a padlock on the NFC West for them. They blew out the same Cardinals team (with Sam Bradford at quarterback instead of Josh Rosen) that the 49ers struggled with and have also emerged from a shootout in Seattle to give them a firm hold of the division. The Seahawks meanwhile remain in second place. Nothing much more to say there other than wonder how Seattle lost at home. They also managed to beat the Cardinals with a last-second field goal in Week 4. San Francisco 49ers/Arizona CardinalsWe don’t need to go into specifics of this mess. There are two things that are certain after the 49ers’ loss Sunday: The Cardinals are in third place, while the 49ers are in last place. Things can change when the 49ers run into the Rams and Cardinals both to close out the first half of their schedule, but given the product on the field and the laundry list of injuries, it’s not looking too good. Meanwhile, the Cardinals gained their first win of the season. In an away game. Against the 49ers. Into Week 6The Rams will be facing the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium in what should be a very interesting game for both defenses on the field. The Seahawks will be staying home heading to London to meet the Oakland Raiders in what could be a very winnable game for the Seahawks. The Cardinals head to Minnesota to face a Vikings team that has just come off a convincing win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers are going to prime time to face the Green Bay Packers. A team that is dealing with injuries and rebuilding issues of their own. 1st: Los Angeles Rams; Next: at Denver Broncos2nd: Seattle Seahawks; Next: Oakland Raiders (in London)3rd: Arizona Cardinals; Next: at Minnesota Vikings4th: San Francisco 49ers; Next: at Green Bay Packers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Petr Mrazek is going from being a backup goaltender on a losing team to a starting job for a playoff contender. The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Mrazek from the Detroit Red Wings for two conditional draft picks on Monday night Authentic Daniel Sedin Jersey , a day after losing their second goalie to injury in less than 10 days.Flyers general manager Ron Hextall made the move after backup Michal Neuvirth was injured in Sunday’s win at the New York Rangers. Hextall said late Monday night that Neuvirth will miss several weeks. Starter Brian Elliott had core muscle surgery last Tuesday and is expected to miss up to 6 weeks.Article continues below ...”We’re excited to have obtained Petr Mrazek,” Hextall said. ”Petr is a proven NHL goaltender, and given the situation we’re in, we needed a proven goaltender and we got one.”The surprising Flyers are tied for third place in the Metropolitan Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings have the fourth-fewest point total in the East and are looking to move more players before next week’s trade deadline.Mrazek was 8-7-3 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage this season for Detroit while playing behind Jimmy Howard. He’s 72-58-20 with a 2.60 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 166 appearances in six seasons for the Red Wings.Mrazek had his best season two years ago, going 27-16-6 with a 2.33 GAA and a .921 save percentage. He’s 4-6 in 10 career playoff starts with a 1.88 GAA and a .931 save percentage.”We know how capable he is, and his experience in the NHL Womens Derek Dorsett Jersey , playing in a high-pressure market in Detroit, went into our decision,” Hextall said. ”We felt like we had to get a guy that has a proven track record.”The Flyers sent a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2018 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2019 to Detroit. The first pick becomes a third if the Flyers make the playoffs and Mrazek wins five games in the regular season. That same pick can move to a second if Philadelphia wins two rounds of the playoffs and Mrazek wins six games. The additional third-rounder goes to Detroit in 2019 if Flyers re-sign him. Mrazek is set to become a restricted free agent after this season.Alex Lyon made 25 saves in relief to earn his first career win after replacing Neuvirth against the Rangers. Lyon passed up his senior season at Yale to sign with the Flyers in April 2016. He played in 47 games for the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season and 26 more this season. He’s 1-1 in four appearances for Philadelphia. The Flyers also activated goaltender Anthony Stolarz and sent him to the minors before making the move. Stolarz hasn’t played this season following surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee in September.”We’re in a tough situation – you lose your top two goalies when you’re fighting for a playoff spot, and our players have worked hard for a long time now, and I didn’t feel like it was fair to not have a proven NHL goaltender for this team,” Hextall said.— SAN JOSE , Calif. (AP) Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin made sure the Columbus Blue Jackets didn’t blow another lead and got to head home from the California swing on a winning note.Artemi Panarin scored two goals, including an empty-netter to seal the win, and Bobrovsky made 34 saves to thwart a comeback attempt by San Jose as the Blue Jackets beat the Sharks 4-2 on Sunday night.”We found a way to get it done,” captain Nick Foligno said. ”That’s what we need to do this time of year. I hope guys feel good about themselves that they can win these tight ones and it has to carry on to the next 16 games.”Foligno and Sonny Milano got Columbus started with first-period goals to help the Blue Jackets salvage the final game of their three-game trip to remain a point ahead of Florida for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets had scored first in Los Angeles and Anaheim to start this trip before losing both games. They nearly blew a 3-0 lead against the Sharks but Bobrovsky made a sliding save on a deflection by Joe Pavelski to keep it 3-2 and Panarin scored his 20th goal into the empty net to seal the win.”They’re a tough team because they’re so many deflections around the goal,” coach John Tortorella said. ”The save Bob makes on Joe Pavelski. That’s a set play with him and (Brent) Burns. They’ve played together for so long. They’re tough to stop.”Evander Kane scored his first goal since joining the Sharks and Joonas Donskoi also scored but San Jose was unable to erase a three-goal deficit.Martin Jones allowed three goals on 11 shots before being pulled early in the second period and the Sharks went a 12th straight game without a power-play goal, extending their drought to 28 chances.”Sometimes you have to give the goalie on the other team some credit Jacob Markstrom Jersey ,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. ”We generated some really quality chances on the power play and sometimes we missed the net and he made some really good saves.”The Sharks fell behind 3-0 early in the second when Panarin deflected Ian Cole’s point shot into the net to end Jones’ night. The Blue Jackets limited San Jose’s chances after that as they kept control of the game until a broken play late in the second gave the Sharks life.Kane’s pass was deflected right to Dylan DeMelo at the point. DeMelo fired the puck toward the net and Donskoi deflected it past Bobrovsky to make it 3-1.Kane then scored midway through the third, giving him five points in three games with San Jose. But the Sharks were unable to get the equalizer against Bobrovsky.”You get down by three goals, it’s tough to come back,” Kane said. ”We came up a little short. Late in the second period we started breaking down their defense and getting pucks to the net. We need to start doing that earlier.”The Blue Jackets bounced back from losses at Los Angeles and Anaheim by getting off to a fast start in San Jose despite being short-handed for six minutes in the opening period. The Sharks failed to convert any of those chances into goals with Bobrovsky’s glove save on a deflection by Pavelski the best chance as their power-play drought extended to 27.Columbus then scored seconds after the first penalty ended with Foligno beating Jones with a wrist shot to make it 1-0.The Blue Jackets added another goal less than a minute after killing a third penalty when Marc-Edouard Vlasic misplayed the puck at the blue line and Boone Jenner fed Milano on the 2-on-1 for the goal.NOTES: Aaron Dell stopped all 16 shots he faced in place of Jones. … Sharks C Eric Fehr returned to the lineup after missing one game and Marcus Sorensen was scratched. … Blue Jackets C Alexander Wennberg also returned after missing one game in place of Lukas Sedlak.UP NEXTBlue Jackets: Host Vegas on Tuesday night.Sharks: Host St. Louis on Thursday night.—

releasing linebacker Reuben Foster after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge at the team’s hotel in Tampa this weekend.Foster is accused of hitting Elissa Ennis Cheap Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , who is the same woman who recanted the accusation of domestic violence that led to Foster’s arrest in the offseason. There was at least one other incident between the two in October of this year. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a report of domestic violence was made to Santa Clara police, but Foster was not arrested. The 49ers told the Chronicle that they were unaware of any October incident or report.According to Tampa police, Foster “slapped her phone out of her hand, pushed her in the chest area, and slapped her with an open hand on the left side of her face” during the incident that led to his arrest. Foster was released from jail after posting a $2 ,000 bond. The San Francisco 49ers have done it again. And by it I mean it’s another last second blown lead that leads to them losing. This time it wasn’t to the Arizona Cardinals or the Green Bay Packers, but the New York Giants 27-23. The offense has their own share of blame (such as Marquise Goodwin failing to catch a ball) but front and center is the defense. A defense that caused so many issues on the Giants final scoring drive that they should have gotten off the field about four or five times. But those four or five times were negated by penalties which kept the Giants on the field, gave them easy yards and eventually led to them taking the lead. The 49ers desperately need a pass rush. Obviously, officiating was trash on Monday night with a bear hug on Cassius Marsh going unnoticed and flopping making its latest appearance in the NFL on a George Kittle pass interference. But once again things were on the defense and They. Can. Not. Finish. The buck stops with Robert Saleh. Is it his position coaches? Is it his scheme? Is the offense not giving them enough of a breather? This isn’t Aaron Rodgers we’re talking about here, this is Eli Manning Youth Mike Person Jersey , who the 49ers somehow found a way to resuscitate for one night only since he’s spent most of the season on his back. The story going into MNF was if Manning would start given his putrid play. And the 49ers somehow found a way to make him look amazing. Yep, you know what time it is. It’s time to bring back the heat-o-meter:

COLUMBUS Jonathan Drouin Jersey , Ohio (AP) The Columbus Blue Jackets had to come from behind twice Saturday night to stay in the thick of the Eastern Conference wild-card race.Josh Anderson scored in the third period and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 shots to lift the up-and-down Blue Jackets to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in front of a sellout crowd at Nationwide Arena.Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who had lost four of five. Cam Atkinson also scored.”We’re a resilient group,” Atkinson said. ”We’ve got to keep fighting because these points and these wins and these games are so crucial for us.”David Kampf and Tomas Jurco scored for last-place Chicago in the second leg of a back-to-back. Rookie Anton Forsberg had 26 saves against his former team. The Blackhawks had won two in a row and three of four.Chicago jumped in front when Kampf redirected a shot from Ryan Hartman for his third goal just 1:28 into the game. But Columbus tied with 2:08 left in the period when Atkinson sent a power-play shot from the top of the right circle over the shoulder of Forsberg, who was screened by Columbus’ Alexander Wennberg. The teams exchanged goals again in the second. Chicago probably should have had more, with Vinnie Hinostroza hitting the post twice and the team failing to capitalize on a pair of power plays.Jurco got his first goal of the season at 9:20 with a wrist shot from the slot.”We were sitting in a good spot, 2-1 there in the second ,” Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane said. ”Those are the games you have to find ways to least get points. It’s been kind of a season where we’ve struggled to do that.”Columbus tied it again at 14:30 when former Blackhawks forward Artemi Panarin picked off a Chicago pass in the neutral zone and carried it all the way back, delivering a perfect cross-ice pass for Dubois to shovel in.”As soon as he got it I knew it was coming to me, so I was ready,” Dubois said. ”It was a really nice pass, and it was pretty easy for me.”Anderson got the game-winner 11:14 into the third when he carried the puck down the left side, pulled up in the circle and slammed it past Forsberg.Bobrovsky shut down the Blackhawks from there.”You can sit there and say we played good Jonathan Bernier Jersey Womens , we had chances, whatever, but once again we just didn’t get the job done,” Kane said.Columbus coach John Tortorella said the come-from-behind victory was a boost for a team that has struggled to find traction all season.”It’s a confidence thing with our team,” he said. ”We’re just trying to find a way to string something together.”NOTES: Panarin extended his point streak to four games. … Columbus F Oliver Bjorkstrand played in his 100th career NHL game. … Chicago F Brandon Saad played his first game in Nationwide Arena since being traded for Panarin. … Panarin’s assist on Dubois’ goal was his team-leading 33rd of the season. … Referee Garrett Rank bloodied the ice when he left in the third after Chicago’s Jan Rutta caught him in the face with a stick. tweak 49ers Brock Coyle Jersey ,’ report has it as mid-ankle sprain, MRI negative Pat’s Update ( #2): Matt Maiocco is reporting the MRI came back negative. It’s looking more like a mid-ankle sprain. This is good. Fooch’s update (#1): Matt Maiocco is reporting the injury is a mid-to-high ankle sprain and Breida will undergo an MRI on Monday. Maiocco tweeted, “He may not play next week, as the team wants to give it time to heal and not be something that bothers him throughout the rest of the season.”After losing both Jerick McKinnon and Jimmy Garoppolo to season ending injuries, one of the bright spots for the 49ers offense has been been running back Matt Breida. He led the league in rushing yards and yards per carry through he first three weeks. He has battled injuries throughout the first five weeks but came back and started the game facing the Cardinals with a bang, with 56 yards on eight carries giving him and average of seven yards per carry. In the last play of the first quarter a Cardinal defensive player landed awkwardly on Breida’s left leg. He limped off the field with a lot of assistance from the training staff and Kyle Juszczyk. Later, trainers taped up both of Breida’s ankles and he tested the stability of them near the bench area and looked to be wanting to get back into the game. He walked to the locker room during the second quarter without favoring his injured foot, but he never returned to the game. At first look, it appeared that the staff was looking at Breida’s knee. He explained that he didn’t know what was hurt at first because his leg was numb. He added that he always wants to go back into the game but that it’s a long season and they needed to think long term. Thankfully the x-rays came back negative and although he left the locker room in a waling boot , there is a possibility that he could return for the team’s Monday Nigh Match up in Green Bay.Kyle Shanahan on the toughness and ability: Breida on what the team has to do moving forward: A pick, a beneficial penalty and a game-winning kick.Quite a final minute for the Green Bay Packers.Mason Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to cap an 81-yard drive set up by Kevin King's interception with 1:07 left, and the Packers outlasted the San Francisco 49ers for a 33-30 win on Monday night. The final drive was extended after 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was flagged for illegal contact on third-and-15 that wiped out a sack of Aaron Rodgers with 43 seconds left.Rodgers rushed up the middle for a 21-yard gain on the next play. The two-time NFL MVP completed two more passes for 19 yards to set up Crosby's game-winner for Green Bay (3-2-1).The veteran kicker was perfect a week after missing four field goals in a loss at Detroit."It's very appropriate, what he went through last week, (for) the team to stick with him," Rodgers said. "And then he responded."Rodgers threw for 425 yards and two scores, both to Adams. The second came with 1:55 left from 16 yards to tie the score at 30.C.J. Beathard passed for 245 yards and two long touchdowns to speedy receiver Marquise Goodwin for the 49ers (1-5).For a while it looked like the 49ers might hold on for their first victory since quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the year in Week 3 with a torn ACL.Turnovers hurt them again — three more on Monday night, but none bigger than King's pick at the Packers 10."Very disappointed. We had a chance to win that game," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "It hurts."The second-year cornerback was locked in 1-on-1 coverage with Goodwin , who had burned the secondary all night. This time, King kept up and pulled in a ball that looked slightly underthrown by Beathard. Then Rodgers went to work, aided by the penalty on Sherman, who was covering Davante Adams.Rodgers was 25 of 46. Adams had 10 catches for 132 yards, one of three Packers receivers to go over 100 yards. The Packers scored 10 points in the final 2 minutes, capped by Crosby's fourth field goal of the night."This week was a grind, it was one of the tougher weeks of my career," Crosby said about bouncing back from his awful game last week. It's just what the Packers needed going into their bye week. The late flurry overshadowed another troubling start by the defense. The Packers had 17-7 lead when Rodgers connected with Davante Adams for a 9-yard touchdown with 1:58 left in the first quarter. Then San Francisco just brushed past Green Bay.Beathard connected with Goodwin for the 67-yard score down the middle of the field on the ensuing series. The 30-yard score came with 6:05 left in the second. Goodwin celebrated by mimicking a long jump in the end zone.He finished with four catches for 126 yards. Beathard was 16 of 23.San Francisco also got more pressure after the first quarter, forcing the Packers into more third-and-long situations.Rodgers figured out the Niners in the end."We had every opportunity to finish and win that game and we didn't get it done ," Shanahan said.KEY PLAYThe 49ers looked like they were in good shape after Adams' second touchdown, starting their series at their own 47 with 1:55 left after a 32-yard return by Richie James Jr., and a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on Tony Brown. But on third-and-3 from the Packers 46, Beathard unloaded under pressure."It wasn't really what we wanted. The all-out blitz stuff, we had to get rid of it," Shanahan said. There (are) four options on the play, but that wasn't the one we wanted."King picked a nice time for his first career interception."I've just got to stay the course, keep doing your job, keep it going Youth Jaquiski Tartt Jersey , and those types of plays are going to come," King said.NO TAKEAWAYSAnother game without a takeaway for the Niners dropped them to an NFL-worst minus-11 in turnover differential. It's not like, 'Oh, I didn't agree with the call, they're going to pick it up.' They called it. I've got to find a way to do better." — Sherman on the illegal contact penalty.ANTHEMGoodwin appeared to be the only player on either team with an apparent sign of protest during the national anthem, raising a right first in the air.UP NEXT49ers: Host the unbeaten Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.Packers: After a bye week, Green Bay visits the Rams on Oct. 28.

(AP) Like tourists flocking to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom, the Pittsburgh Penguins making a trip to Washington in the playoffs has become a rite of spring. The Penguins and Capitals will face off in the second round for the third consecutive year with the core groups changed only slightly from past battles. Back-to-back Stanley Cup-champion Pittsburgh still has playoff MVPs Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and Washington still has stars Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom trying to make the Eastern Conference final for the first time.”We faced each other for a lot of games, and we should know each other right now inside out,” Backstrom said. ”That’s just how it is. It’s usually tight series and one-goal games. We’re excited about this one.”It’s hard not to get the ”Groundhog Day” feeling about these teams meeting for the fourth time in the past 10 years. The Penguins won the previous three series despite not having home-ice advantage, twice winning Game 7 in Washington on the way to capturing the Stanley Cup.But this year is different in many ways, most notably on the Pittsburgh injury front. Malkin and winger Carl Hagelin will miss Game 1 on Thursday night in Washington. Coach Mike Sullivan said Malkin will travel, making him a possibility to play in Game 2 this weekend after missing the end of the Philadelphia series with an apparent lower-body injury.”I think guys have to step up in different roles maybe,” Crosby said. ”I don’t think anybody has to put too much pressure on themselves. Collectively we can find ways and those are guys who aren’t easy to replace, but that’s what we’re faced with.”A year after the last series between these two division rivals, gone from the Penguins are forwards Nick Bonino, Chris Kunitz and Matt Cullen, defensemen Trevor Daley , Ian Cole and Ron Hainsey and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Gone from the Capitals are forwards Justin Williams, Marcus Johansson and Daniel Winnik and defensemen Nate Schmidt, Karl Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk.”They have different personnel, we have different personnel,” said Penguins defenseman Kris Letang, who’s back after missing the 2017 playoffs because of neck surgery. ”The series is going to play out differently. The game is going to be won differently. You don’t know how it is going to go.”Pittsburgh, trying for a rare championship threepeat, has won nine of 10 all-time series against Washington, many of which predate current players and coaches. But Capitals coach Barry Trotz said it’s ”fitting” his team must again go through its nemesis to advance.Asked why this year the outcome will be different, Ovechkin said: ”I don’t know. One day, it have to happen. If we want to get success, we have to beat Pittsburgh and move forward.”SID VS. OVICrosby has won 44 of the 70 previous games against Ovechkin in the NHL regular season and playoffs, world junior championships, world championships Authentic Josh Manson Jersey , World Cup and Olympics. There may not be another dueling hat tricks game like the one in the 2009 playoffs, but Crosby and Ovechkin are red hot going into their latest showdown. Crosby is tied at 13 points with linemate Jake Guentzel for the scoring lead in the playoffs, and Ovechkin’s five power-play goals helped Washington beat Columbus in six.”This year I think he’s playing his best, but it’s good to see,” Backstrom said of Ovechkin. ”Hopefully everyone can raise our level here in the second round.”POWER PLAYERSThe Penguins relied heavily on their top-ranked power play unit to land a 12th straight playoff berth – the longest active streak in the NHL – but their title bid will rely heavily on a penalty kill that’s been uneven at best. Pittsburgh was a middling 17th during the regular season (80 percent) but killed 90.5 percent of Philadelphia’s power plays in the opening round. Washington scored just once with the man advantage in four regular season meetings with the Penguins, who kept Ovechkin in check.”You have to reduce his time,” Letang said. ”You don’t want him to have all kinds of time to really use that puck.”MURRAY’S METTLEPenguins goaltender Matt Murray won the Cup twice as a ”rookie” by NHL standards after backstopping the Penguins to titles in 2016 and 2017. He missed all of Pittsburgh’s playoff series against Washington, however, while recovering from a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old has been up and down against Washington in his brief career and is coming off a Philadelphia series in which he flip-flopped between great (two shutouts) and not-so great (allowing four-or-more goals twice). Still, Murray has never lost a playoff series he’s played in, and even after giving up four quick goals in the first 21 minutes of Game 6 against Philadelphia, he limited the Flyers to just one the rest of the way to give his teammates time to rally.HOLTBY DIALED INCapitals goaltender Braden Holtby allowed six goals on 35 shots through the first two games of the Penguins series last year before getting his game back together. He has only allowed 10 on 137 shots in four-plus games since replacing Philipp Grubauer this time around and looks like a goalie who can match Murray save for save.—AP Sports Writer Will Graves in Pittsburgh contributed.—

TORONTO -- With the United States facing elimination against Canada at the World Cup of Hockey, coach John Tortorella chose to scratch two players hes very familiar with for the sake of what he hopes is the best lineup.Center Brandon Dubinsky and defenseman Jack Johnson will be scratched for the Americans must-win game against Canada on Tuesday night. Tortorella coaches those players in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets and knows Dubinsky well from their time together with the New York Rangers.Winger Kyle Palmieri and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien replace Dubinsky and Johnson in the lineup after being out for the tournament-opening 3-0 loss to Team Europe. Jonathan Quick is expected to start in goal, with Ben Bishop backing up and Cory Schneider scratched. It kills me to take (Dubinsky) out because of how he competes, Tortorella said Tuesday morning. Its tough to scratch Jack Johnson, too. Its tough to scratch Cory Schneider. This is a really big game for USA Hockey, and to tell a couple guys, three guys, theyre not playing, that was hard. The United States must defeat Canada to remain alive in the tournament.Tortorella said the coaching staff agonized over the lineup decisions and combinations. Ultimately the group decided it wanted Palmieri, a 30-goal scorer, and Byfuglien, a big, physical force with a heavy shot, on the ice and on the power play.We hope (Byfuglien) scores a power-play goal, Tortorella said. He obviously was disappointed he didnt play the first game. I think hes really going to try to make a difference tonight. He needs to stay disciplined but also not test the waters and make a difference here.Dubinskys absence is a curious one given his experience shadowing Canadian captain Sidney Crosby throughout their careeers. Cheap Nike React Shoes Online. That job could now fall to David Backes or Ryan Kesler, who wants this to be as edgy a game as possible.Hopefully (the referees) let us play tonight, Kesler said. The U.S. needs to balance playing physical and finishing chances to score. Palmieri, an injury replacement for another Tortorella favorite, Ryan Callahan, is better at putting the puck in the net than putting an opponent into the glass.Palmieri doesnt mind being asked to do both.I think our team needs a little spark and hopefully I can go in there tonight and provide that, whether that be a goal and maybe a big hit, just a big play to get our team going tonight and get ourselves into it and just go from there, Palmieri said.Asked Sunday would it would mean to be in the lineup against Canada, Byfuglien said, Its everything.Getting Palmieri and Byfuglien in seemed like a no-brainer after the U.S. lacked quality scoring chances against Europe on Saturday. Choosing to sit two Blue Jackets players who have long histories with USA Hockey stood out, but Tortorella said that wasnt part of the consideration. No, I cant bring that into the process here, Tortorella said. Thats unfair. We have our 23 guys no matter whos coaching them. Its just for this team, this game, and we made the decision to go this way.Carey Price starts in goal for Canada, with Corey Crawford backing up and Braden Holtby scratched. We have talked at length before about impressive rookies Ezekiel Elliott, and Dak Precott - who picked up 301 yards and three TDs, by the way - but lets look at their wide receivers for once. Dez Bryant earned 80 yards, and hauled in two of those TDs, while the underrated Cole Beasley (59 yards, one TD) had another impressive outing. Grade A Highlights of the Dallas Cowboys win over the Baltimore Ravens in week 11 of the NFL Washington Redskins (W 42-24 v Green Bay)Rob Kelley - wow! The rookie Redskins running back had a breakout 137-yard and three touchdown performance in an impressive win over the Packers. The whole offence was clicking, in fact, with QB Kirk Cousins also putting in a three-TD display, and Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder hauling in over 100 yards each. Grade A Highlights from the Washington Redskins victory over the Green Bay Packers. Video from New York Giants (W 22-16 v Chicago)New Yorks come-from-behind win over Chicago owed much to the emergence of a run game and a more balanced approach on offence. Rashad Jennings - out for much of the year to injury - earned 85 yards off 21 attempts, running in for a score from two yards out to boot. Grade B+ Highlights of the New York Giants win over the Chicago Bears in week 11 of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles (L 15-26 @ Seattle)While theres no disgrace in losing to the Seahawks, in Seattle, the Eagles continue to fluctuate wildly between good and bad. Ryan Mathews, good last week (109 yards, two TDs), was bad this (31 yards). Carson Wentz too threw two picks to go with two TDs. It all results in Philadelphia owning a reflective, good and bad, 5-5 record. Grade C-NFC NORTHDetroit Lions (W 26-19 v Jacksonville)The Lions earned another win over the hapless Jags, but doing so in somewhat peculiar fashion. None of their three touchdowns came from the arm of Matthew Stafford - instead Andre Roberts returned a punt 55 yards for a score, Rafael Bush ran back a pick-six from 39 yards out, and tight end Eric Ebron punched in a touchdown from the one-yard line. Grade B+ Highlights of the Detroit Lions win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 11 of the NFL Minnesota Vikings (W 30-24 v Arizona)The Vikings break out of their funk and end their four-game winless run with a somewhat attritional triumph over the Cardinals, despite only 217 yards of total offence. A win is a win though, and it keeps Minnesota joint top of the North with Detroit. Grade B Highlights of the Arizona Cardinals win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11 of the NFL. Green Bay Packers (L 24-42 @ Washington)Green Bays horror run stretches to four straight losses. Their underachieving ways in 2016 were further highlighted in defeat to a Washington outfit who by way of contrast, continue to overachieve. One positive; Aaron Rodgers is at least looking like Aaron Rodgers again, with 351 yards and three TDs off 41 attempts. Grade D Chicago Bears (L 16-22 @ New York Giants)A particularly disappointing defeat for the Bears, perhaps the most frustrating of their eight on the season. Up 16-9 at the break, Chicago were shutout in the second half. Grade DNFC SOUTHTampa Bay Buccaneers (W 19-17 @ Tampa Bay)What a win for the Bucs, inflicting that rarest of things, a Kansas City Chiefs home defeat; and after they had won five on the trot too. Jameis Winston put in another impressive display - 24 completions off 39 attempts for 331 yards and one TD, kind of impressive. Grade A Highlights of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Kansas City Chiefs in week 11 of the NFL Carolina Panthers (W 23-20 v New Orleans)The Panthers held off a fourth-quarter rally from the Saints to win a third in four, and keep themselves in contention for the play-offs as a result, following their dodgy start to the campaign. But the win didnt come without a cost, with a teary Luke Kuechly out to concussion, plus injuries to Ryan Kalil (shoulder), Mario Addison (foot) and Leonard Johnson (chest). Grade A- Highlights from the Carolina Panthers 23-20 win over the New Orleans Saints. Video from New Orleans Saints (L 20-23 @ Carolina)The Saints defeat owed much to Drew Brees struggles for most of the game. The New Orleans QB threw for a spectacular 465 yards and four touchdowns when they beat Carolina earlier in the year, but was limited to nearly half that tally this time round, also throwing an interception. Grade C-Atlanta Falcons - ByeNFC WESTSeattle Seahawks (W 26-15 v Philadelphia)A third straight win for the Seattle, who are doing what the Seahawks seem to do each and every year, peaking at the right time for the November/December run-in to the play-offs. Grade A Highlights of the Seattle Seahawks 26-15 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Video from Arizona Cardinals (L 24-30 @ Minnesota)The Cardinals inconsistent season continues, falling to the Vikings, and their equally miserly defence. Defeat is made worse too by the worrying news that their beloved head coach, Bruce Arians, has been hospitalised with chest pains. Grade CLos Angeles Rams (L 10-14 v Miami)Jared Goffs first NFL start was, well, uninspiring… The rookie QB threw for just 134 yards off 31 attempts. In spite of that, a three-quarter shutout from a dominant Rams D, and a first TD in six weeks for Todd Gurley, helped Los Angeles hold a 10-0 lead late in the fourth quarter. Cue implosion… Grade D Quarterback Jared Goff #16 of the Los Angeles Rams looks to hand off to teammate Todd Gurley #30 during the first quarter v Miami Dolphins San Francisco 49ers (L 17-30 v New England) Sky Sports Black Friday sale Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price! The one-win 49ers ran the New England Patriots - with the second-best record in the NFL - closer than many thought they would. Colin Kaepernick threw for two touchdowns, and Carlos Hyde looked back to somewhere near his best following his long injury lay-off with 110 all-purpose yards. But San Franciscos search for win No 2 continues. Grade DAFC EastNew England Patriots (W 30-17 @ San Francisco)Potential banana skin avoided here as Tom Brady returned to the west coast, to take on the team he supported as a child. Despite playing them close, New England ran up 17 points in the fourth quarter to take the game away from the 49ers. Its difficult to judge the improvement of the Patriots D against a team on a nine-game losing streak, and Carlos Hyde made a few big plays for his highlights reel, but the AFC leaders always looked in control. Grade B Highlights of the New England Patriots victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Video from Buffalo Bills (W 16-12 @ Cincinnati)Though not spectacular on paper, or even on tape, this was an important win for Buffalo who had lost their previous three. They overcame 77 penalty yards and a Tyrod Taylor interception on the one-yard line, to move to 5-5 and maintain their search for a return to the post-season. Grade B- Highlights of the Buffalo Bills win over the Cincinnati Bengals in week 11 of the NFL Miami Dolphins (W 14-10 @ Los Angeles)A wins a win, right? It wasnt pretty for much of this game, as Ryan Tannehill led nine scoreless drives before a four-minute spell that resulted in two touchdowns. Miamis offensive line missed a couple of key members and struggled to deal with L.As destructive defence, but the Dolphins escape to win their fifth straight and stay in the hunt for a play-off spot. Grade C Highlights of the Miami Dolphins win over the Los Angeles Rams in week 11 of the NFL New York Jets - byeAFC NorthPittsburgh Steelers (W 23-9 @ Cleveland)The Steelers were back to their best running the ball, albeit against the leagues only winless team. Pittsburgh scored eight points in the last action of the first half, a cushion which they never relinquished. The defence registered eight sacks, and the win snaps a four-game losing streak while giving them a share of the division lead. Never mind the opponent, its an important victory. Grade B Highlights of the Pittsburgh Steelers win over the Cleveland Browns in week 11 of the NFL Baltimore Ravens (L 27-17 @ Dallas)A tough loss for a tough defence. Quarterback Joe Flacco said after the game that he thought Baltimore had the beating of the Boys, but they just couldnt hang with the Dallas offence as the game wore on. Steve Smith recorded his 1,000th career catch, but Baltimore need to improve their pass rush if they are going to put elite QBs under pressure. Grade CCincinnati Bengals (L 16-12 v Buffalo)Injuries to A.J Green and Giovanni Bernard rubbed salt in the wounds of a loss that takes them out of the play-off race. Andy Daltons hail Mary smacked of desperation, unable to move the ball in the second half. Mike Nugent missed two extra point kicks and Cincinnati drop to 3-6-1, with a tough road trip to Baltimore up next. Grade D The Bengals lost Green #18 and Bernard and are now struggling to make the play-offs Cleveland Browns (L 23-9 v Cleveland)What more can be said about the 0-11 Browns? Quarterback Cody Kessler left the game with a concussion and head coach Hue Jackson is doubtful whether the rookie will make it back this season. Whats worse is that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger now has as many wins (10) in Cleveland as any of the Browns quarterbacks since 1999. Its tricky to judge the Browns week on week - theyre not much worse than previous weeks, but the ceiling is so low. Time is ebbing away for them to grab a win. Grade EAFC SouthIndianapolis Colts (W 24-17 v Tennessee)A huge win to maintain pressure on the Houston Texans came at a cost. Andrew Luck finished the game but has since entered concussion protocol, and is highly doubtful for their Thanksgiving game with the Steelers. Three touchdowns in the first half put Indianapolis ahead, and relied on their defence to get the win, something they have been unable to do until now. Grade B+ Highlights of the Indianapolis Colts win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11 of the NFL. Houston Texans (L 27-20 @ Oakland)The Texans could have won this game. Brock Osweiler started off brightly, and they were tied at 20-20 with just six minutes remaining. However, decisions went against them all day, Osweiler lost momentum and the Raiders stepped up a gear to steal the victory. Houston twice settled for field goals, showing their inability to convert redzone chances, and its hard to see where a play-off win, should they make it, will come from. Grade C Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was declared out of bounds before going on to score a touchdown. However replays are inconclusive Tennessee Titans (L 24-17 @ Indianapolis)This was a huge opportunity lost for the Titans. They gave up five sacks to the worst pass rush in the league, Perrish Cox missed a golden chance to intercept Lucks touchdown pass to T.Y Hilton, and Jason McCourty was punished 33 yards for a pass interference call that led to the Colts first score. It was a performance riddled with mistakes, leaving themselves too much work to do. Grade DJacksonville Jaguars (L 26-19 @ Detroit)It was a fourth quarter crisis of confidence from a team not used to seeing themselves in the lead. Quarterback Blake Bortles struggled with his accuracy all day, forcing his wide receivers to make athletic catches. They did force two turnovers though. Before this game they had not registered one in their previous five games. As good as it gets for a team that cant get out of its own way this year. Grade D-AFC West Oakland Raiders (W 27-20 v Houston)This was a tight game that Oakland could have easily lost. Officiating decisions went with the Raiders, but there were great fourth-quarter touchdown runs from Jamize Olawale and Amari Cooper, making defenders miss and getting yards after the catch. The pitch made it difficult but this was the sort of game that turns play-off hopefuls into Super Bowl contenders. Grade B- Highlights of the Oakland Raiders 27-20 win over the Houston Texans. Video from Kansas City Chiefs (L 19-17 v Tampa Bay)Just when you think you know the Chiefs, they allow the Bucs to come into town and snap an unbeaten home streak that lasts over year (since October 11, 2015, to be exact). This team missed their star cornerback Marcus Peters, and couldnt cope with the threat Mike Evans possessed. However, it was a costly redzone interception that denied Kansas City their eighth win of the season, and instead sees them lose a step on the Raiders. Good news was that Justin Houston returned after knee surgery, which has kept him out since February. World Junior bronze-medallist Sachin Singh (49kg) on Saturday became only the third Indian boxer ever to strike gold at the AIBA Youth World Championships with a stunning unanimous victory over Cuban national champion Jorge Grinan in the summit clash at St Peterburg, Russia. The 17-year-old outpunched his more fancied rival 5-0 to record a rare Indian triumph over a Cuban boxer. Two of my fellow Indian boxers had lost to Cubans earlier in the tournament, I wanted to extract revenge and I am glad I could do it. It is very satisfying to beat stronger and better rivals, especially if it happens to be a Cuban, Sachin told PTI from St Petersburg after the brilliant triumph. It is a huge moment in my career.
