Baseball does not have a problem with Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna returning from a domestic violence suspension while a legal charge could remain pending.
Osuna agreed to a suspension through Aug. 4 under baseball’s domestic violence policy. He has not pitched since May 6 Brandon Carr Jersey , two days before he was put on administrative leave when he was charged with one count of assault in Toronto.
”If in fact the application of that policy results in Roberto coming back to work after a very long suspension while there are still unresolved criminal proceedings, I can live with that result, because that’s the policy we negotiated Jalyn Holmes Jersey ,” baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said at the All-Star Game on Tuesday. ”You can’t take all the benefits of the policy and then turn around and say, gee, I don’t like the outcome in this case and therefore I’m going to do something else.”
Osuna will wind up missing 89 days Terrell Suggs Jersey , which will cost him about $2.54 million of his $5.3 million salary. He will participate in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program supervised by the joint policy board of MLB and the players’ association.
”I believe that the process moved forward in the fashion that it should have,” union head Tony Clark said.
Osuna made his second minor league appearance Tuesday, striking out one in a scoreless inning for Class A Dunedin against Florida in the Florida State League. He allowed one hit over an inning Friday for the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays against the GCL Yankees East.
A 23-year-old right-hander Danny Etling Jersey , Osuna is 0-0 with nine saves in 10 chances and a 2.93 ERA in 15 games this season. He was an All-Star last year, when he went 3-4 with 39 saves and a 3.38 ERA.

Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette said repeatedly during the offseason that he wanted to slim down for his second NFL season. Mission accomplished.
Fournette told Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune that he is currently at 223 pounds Jarius Wright Jersey , his lightest since he was a star at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans in 2013.
Although Fournette weighed in at 240 pounds at last year’s Scouting Combine, getting down to 223 isn’t quite as big a weight loss as it sounds: Fournette said he had been drinking a lot of water at the Combine and that a lot of that 240 was water weight. At LSU’s Pro Day, Fournette was 228 pounds, and that was his listed weight as a rookie last year as well.
Still Sheldon Richardson Jersey , Fournette believes he’ll be faster, quicker and better as a 223-pounder.
The Raiders used the third-round pick they picked up by sliding back five spots in the first round of the 2018 draft to take a flier on receiver Martavis Bryant. So far, the flight is having a hard time getting off the ground.
鈥淗e鈥檚 got to get out here and play better,鈥?Gruden said Saturday LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey , via Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 鈥淗e鈥檚 in a competitive situation. Right now, a lot of the other receivers have had a nice camp. He鈥檚 just got to learn the offense. He鈥檚 got to stay out here. He鈥檚 had some illnesses. He鈥檚 got to get on the field. He鈥檚 got to master the offense and become more versatile, and that鈥檚 the key to making this team better.鈥?/p>
Amaro Cooper and Jordy Nelson sit atop the depth chart in Oakland. It remains to be seen where Bryant fits.
The draft-pick investment likely gives Bryant the benefit of the doubt when it comes to carving the roster down to 53. But that won’t guarantee playing time or opportunities to make an impact on the field.
Bryant’s on-field struggles come at a time when, as Gehlken previously reported Julian Edelman Jersey , the Raiders are bracing for another potential suspension of Bryant under the substance-abuse policy. Although he reportedly has not failed or missed a drug test, there are other ways to run afoul of the substance-abuse policy when a player is in Stage 3 of the program, one false move away from another minimum banishment of a full calendar year.
Bryant missed all of the 2016 season in Pittsburgh. His best year came in 2015, when he caught 50 passes for 765 yards.

The Baltimore Ravens‘ unyielding effort to land a big-play receiver finally paid off Friday when nine-year veteran Michael Crabtree signed a three-year contract.
Hours after disclosing that the Ravens voided the contract of Washington Redskins wide receiver Ryan Grant following a failed physical Thurman Thomas Jersey , general manager Ozzie Newsome landed Crabtree, who played the past three seasons with the Oakland Raiders.
Crabtree toured the Ravens’ complex Friday morning and signed in the late afternoon.
”I always imagined myself being a Raven when I was little,” Crabtree said. ”I came here, loved it and signed on the dotted line.”
In two games over the past two years with Oakland, the former 49ers star scorched Baltimore for 13 catches for 170 yards and four touchdowns.
Facing the Ravens in the 2012 Super Bowl, Crabtree had five receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown for San Francisco in a 34-31 loss.
”Michael has played very well against the Ravens, so we know firsthand the attributes he brings to the game,” Newsome said. ”He is a smart, tough, physical receiver who battles for the ball. We like his temperament and believe he is a good fit for our football team, on and off the field.”
The 30-year-old Crabtree played six seasons with San Francisco before joining the Raiders. He has 579 career receptions for 6 Dalvin Cook Jersey ,870 yards and 51 touchdowns in 125 career games.
The 6-1, 215-pound Crabtree has totaled at least 85 catches in a season three times, including a career-high 89 in 2016. He has twice surpassed 1,000 yards receiving in a season.
Crabtree joins former Arizona receiver John Brown as new potential targets for quarterback Joe Flacco, who directed a lackluster passing attack that last year ranked 27th in the NFL.
Almost as soon as the Ravens cleared out their lockers following a 9-7 finish in 2017, Newsome set out to improve the weakest facet of a team that’s missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
”If you dial it back to a year ago, we talked about how we wanted to get our defense stronger, and we did that. Then we said we wanted to run the football and we were able to do that,” Newsome said Friday morning, speaking with Brown at his side. ”The next piece is to get a better passing game. If we give Joe some weapons, and we improve in the passing game Bobby Wagner Jersey , maybe that will be enough to help us get over the hump.”
Newsome said he withdrew Grant’s four-year contract offer following the exam and after consulting with team doctors and outside physicians.
”That’s not a football decision,” Newsome said. ”That’s a medical condition that I have no control over.”
Though Grant never missed a game in his four years with the Redskins, Newsome said the physical found an issue with his ankle.
”We knew he had had an ankle injury in the latter part of the season with the Redskins,” Newsome said. ”But he had passed their postseason physical, so we had no indication that it could have been there.”
Brown played four seasons with Arizona before signing a one-year contract this week with Baltimore.
”The thing about John is, he can take the top off of the defense,” Newsome said. ”A lot of times when you go with a vertical receiver, they have a very limited route tree. John does not. John can run every route in the route tree. The other aspect of this that attracted John to us is that we feel like his best football is still in front of him.”
Brown, two years removed from a 1,000-yard season, expects to ring up big numbers with Baltimore.
”I felt like this was the best fit for me Kyle Rudolph Jersey ,” he said. ”They like to use a lot of receivers with speed. I feel like I can come in and help this team.”
Newsome said he ”has not closed the door” on re-signing receivers Michael Campanaro and Mike Wallace, and has been ”having conversations” with several tight ends.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh is reaping some health benefits with the return of Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda.
"Seeing him out there doing individual drills was good for my blood pressure," Harbaugh said.
Yanda participated in individual drills during the team's two-day, joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams. Yanda won't play in the Ravens-Ravens preseason game Thursday night, saying it will likely take three weeks to get into game shape. He could be held out of the three preseason games as a precaution, but said he plans to be ready for Baltimore's opener against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 9.
When he does return, the Ravens will rely heavily on Yanda to anchor the offensive line after he missed the final 14 games last season with a fractured ankle. He also sat out the early part of training camp following shoulder surgery.
"It's exciting being back out there," Yanda said Wednesday shortly after the teams concluded their final practice. "I definitely missed it last year. I'm just taking it one day at a time. But I am feeling great and am definitely on schedule."
One of the goals for the Ravens this offseason has been to solidify the offensive line. Quarterback Joe Flacco needs more time in pocket to be effective and he should benefit with Yanda back in the starting lineup, according to Harbaugh. Flacco was sacked 27 times last season and the Ravens had the 29th-ranked passing attack in the league.
James Hurst had been filling in at right guard while Yanda has been sidelined.
"Marshal makes a big difference in our offensive line," Harbaugh said. "What's the exponential number? What's the percentage better? A lot. . I'm happy to see it, and I just want to keep seeing him get better."
While Yanda has been durable throughout his career Bob Griese Jersey , he knew the ankle injury against Cleveland in Week 2 was going to have a long-term impact. He then injured his shoulder lifting weights in the offseason.
"It was tough last year because I couldn't fight through that one," said Yanda, who is entering his 12th NFL season. "It was kind of a bang-bang injury and I was done for the year. Injuries are part of football. I'm excited to get back this year and I'm ready to roll."
Yanda, 33, has played in 146 games, including 135 starts, which ranks as the second-most games played among offensive linemen in Ravens history behind Hall-of-Famer Jonathan Ogden (177). Yanda was named the league's top offensive lineman in the league in 2016 by Pro Football Focus when he didn't allow a sack or quarterback hit that entire season.
Despite the recent spate of injuries, Yanda is confident he can still make a big impact with the team.
"I definitely have a lot left in the tank and that fire is still there and burns," Yanda said. "I want to get back out there and play. That desire to play definitely kept me rolling. I am definitely excited to play this fall."

The Atlanta Hawks are using a high-tech virtual tour to give current and potential season ticket holders a glimpse of their renovated arena.
With Philips Arena currently undergoing major renovations Kyle Wilber Jersey , the Hawks recently launched ”The Preview,” an interactive tour of the transformed arena in downtown Atlanta located between Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Centennial Olympic Park. The tour was opened about a month ago while the arena is currently in the final phase of its $192.5 million renovation.
Hawks CEO Steve Koonin said there is no other experience like the preview center in the NBA.
Thousands of potential suite and seat buyers have already taken the tour held in a 2,500-square-foot space, which is located on CNN Center property. The tour is promoting the revamped arena on several large 70-inch screens as a premiere entertainment venue for basketball games, concerts and events.
Ticket holders in the suites, cabanas or verandas don’t just use them for Hawks games, the tickets are good for all events at Philips Arena – with food and beverages all included. But the Hawks home games are the primary hook.
”It’s going to be a social place unlike anywhere else in the NBA,” Koonin said. ”All of our research told us that people don’t want to sit down in a chair eating a hot dog out of aluminum foil and watch a game. They want a great night out. … Think Vegas pool meets sporting event.”
”The Preview” offers a before-and-after look at the various amenities from the 360-degree concourse, rapper Killer Mike’s barber shop, Zac Brown’s BBQ restaurant Rayshawn Jenkins Jersey , fantasy golf area, club lounge and premium seating areas with couches and cabanas. The tour, which the Hawks dub as somewhat of a ”Disney ride,” also provides a look at the new state-of-the-art video board system, which is three times larger than the current one.
The Hawks will continue to operate it once the arena renovations are complete, they have three-year lease for the space.
Koonin said team officials know they have much work to do.
Despite the Hawks’ on-the-court struggles this past season, the franchise hopes to claim some victory off it. The team went 24-58 and missed the playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons.
Koonin said they are taking a new business approach to enhance the fan experience beyond any game or event. The courtside club featuring the Hawks Bar in the premium seating area several rows behind the basketball goal was a part of the arena’s phase one transformation.
”I love that they’re not letting it sit around,” said Atlanta-based attorney Randy Kessler, who has been a Hawks season-ticket holder since the arena opened in 1999. He hasn’t been on ”The Preview” tour, but he’s seen images of the new arena.
”I love that they are not just thinking of on-the-court experience Ryan Ramczyk Jersey , but off it,” Kessler added. ”You should feel special once you walk in, and I did. I thought last year’s improvements were good. Even though the team was terrible, the experience was still great. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.”
Koonin said the Hawks realize with their recent on-court performance they have to continue to work in order to win over fans.
He said the team spent millions of dollars to build the preview center and partnered with a Seattle-based design firm Hornall Anderson to create the virtual tour.
Philips Area is expected to reopen in October, but Koonin said the team will keep the tour going on for the next couple years. The arena might be one of the smallest-capacity NBA venues with 17,600 seats.
Sales centers are not unique to the NBA and several teams with new arenas have given fans an insight to what they can expect in the new facilities, including Sacramento, Milwaukee and Golden State.
Koonin said Hawks officials visited other arena preview centers including Sacramento and the NFL stadium in Minnesota. He said there is no other experience like ”The Preview” in the NBA, but the Hawks are still missing one thing – championships.
Golden State ”has one thing that’s very powerful that I wish we had: A bunch of recent Larry O’Brien trophies and rings,” he said. ”We have to work a little harder.”
The NFL players’ union has filed a non-injury grievance on behalf of free agent safety Eric Reid.
The NFLPA cites one team appearing ”to have based its decision not to sign a player based on the player’s statement that he would challenge the implementation of a club’s policy prohibiting demonstration” during the national anthem.
League policy does not prohibit demonstrating during the anthem. Referring to the labor agreement with the league Bruce Smith Jersey , the union notes that NFL rules supersede any conflicting club rules.
The union also says ”at least one club owner has asked pre-employment interview questions about a player’s intent to demonstrate. We believe these questions are improper, given league policy.”
That team reportedly is the Cincinnati Bengals.
Considered one of the top safeties in the league, Reid played out his contract with San Francisco last season. He has been a strong supporter of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who in 2016 became the first player to kneel during the anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.
Kaepernick wasn’t signed for the 2017 season following his release in San Francisco. Reid continued the quarterback’s protests.
Reid last week filed a collusion claim similar to one filed by Kaepernick last year. The union announced Monday that it filed its grievance and was seeking an arbitrator to hear the case.
Kaepernick deposed several league owners and executives, including Commissioner Roger Goodell, in his grievance. Reid is using the same attorneys as Kaepernick.
When NFL owners met in March, they didn’t hold lengthy discussions on anthem protocol. But they are expected to do so at their spring meetings in Atlanta on May 21-22.
In March, Goodell was asked about Reid, one of the better players at his position in the NFL, not having a job.
”I’ve said this repeatedly to you: The 32 teams make individual decisions on the players who are going to best help their franchises Phillip Gaines Jersey ,” Goodell said. ”Those are decisions they have to make. They do that every day in the best interest of winning. Teams make those decisions. I’m not directly involved with that.”
Last month, Kaepernick praised Reid for continuing to make a stand for social justice when the quarterback was presented an Amnesty International award in Amsterdam.
”Eric introducing me for this prestigious award brings me great joy,” Kaepernick said. ”But I am also pained by the fact that his taking a knee, and demonstrating courage to protect the rights of black and brown people in America, has also led to his ostracization from the NFL when he is widely recognized as one of the best competitors in the game and in the prime of his career.”

BUFFALO Eli Manning Jersey , N.Y. — Forgettable campaigns for both the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators are nearing an end. Before they conclude, the two teams will meet in Buffalo’s home finale on Wednesday night.
The Sabres (25-42-12) have lost eight of their last 11 games as they prepare to finish their first season under head coach Phil Housley. Buffalo is coming off a 5-2 loss to the rival Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and also had a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings last Thursday.
The Sabres have had a few positive moments sprinkled in between their struggles, particularly in the second half of the season — which included a stunning surprise 7-4 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
In that game, top playmaker Jack Eichel had a career-best five assists in the victory, tying a franchise record. Eichel became the fourth Buffalo player to record five assists in a single game.
The loss to the Maple Leafs, however, was a stark reminder of just how far the Sabres have to go in order to turn things around in the future.
“That’s a good team over there, they brought it,” goalie Chad Johnson said after the loss, according to the team’s website. “Their skilled players or their best players were their best players. At the end of the day you wish you could personally, as a team, beat all these top teams all the time and have great numbers, great statistics. It’s tough beating these guys when they’re at their best. There’s a reason why they have as many points as they do. We’re still finding that consistency in our game.”
Eichel leads the Sabres in scoring with 62 points (25 goals, 37 assists) in 64 games. Ryan O’Reilly is second on the team with 58 points (22 goals Brooks Reed Jersey , 36 assists) in 58 games. Young forward Sam Reinhart has turned the corner in the second half of the season, posting 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) in 79 games.
One highlight for Sabres fans will be a Dominik Hasek bobblehead giveaway as part of the team’s fan appreciation night. Every fan who attends the game will receive one bobblehead.
The Senators (27-41-11) are also limping to the finish line in what has been a remarkably frustrating and surprising season. Ottawa has lost eight of its last night games, with the lone win coming in overtime against the Florida Panthers last Thursday. Ottawa’s most recent defeat came in a 6-5 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday.
“We showed some character coming back,” Senators coach Guy Boucher said, according to the team’s website. “But we made too many mistakes defensively to allow us to win.”
With his future unclear, Senators captain Erik Karlsson did not make the trip with the team to Buffalo. It remains to be seen if Karlsson has played his last game for the Senators. Karlsson picked up the final puck in the loss to Winnipeg before leaving the ice.
Karlsson is under contract through one more season but has been surrounded by trade rumors all season long.
No debate that the most important position in the NFL is quarterback. But in fantasy, there may be as much depth at the position as there ever has been.
Sure, we’d all like Green Bay superstar Aaron Rodgers to start for our teams, but that privilege may not be worth a third- or fourth-round pick in most leagues.
Unless you’re in a league in which you can start more than one QB (superflex/2 QB leagues) or one that awards 6 points for a touchdown pass, do not take a QB until the eighth round at the earliest.
This isn’t to say that you should completely pass on players like Rodgers or New England’s Tom Brady. If Rodgers falls to the fifth round or later, the value would be too good. But generally, load up on as many running backs and wide receivers as possible.
The depth at QB means you can get a player like Philip Rivers (Chargers), Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh) or Andrew Luck (Indianapolis) later in your draft. They each have warts but it’s better to have depth at RB or WR in the middle rounds rather than take a QB that may not outscore someone you can draft several rounds later by anything more than a few points per week.
History tells us that there will be several top QBs that will outscore others at that position by a significant amount Cameron Brate Jersey , but the passers ranked No. 4 to No. 13 will be separated by about 4 fantasy points per week. That just isn’t enough of a difference to justify passing on a third running back or receiver.
A question that every fantasy owner should ask when thinking about drafting a top-level QB is whether the team will look better with that QB and a running back like Marlon Mack, or with a receiver like Golden Tate and Luck. Take the second option every time.
When it comes to quarterbacks and other positions, fantasy analysts place players in tiers. Rodgers is in a tier all by himself. He is the best fantasy QB today and it may not be all that close. Don’t be worried about the broken collarbone from last season. Rodgers has the arm strength to throw every pass required and although he won’t run as much as Carolina’s Cam Newton or Seattle’s Russell Wilson, he still has the ability to escape the pocket to gain yardage on the ground or more importantly, buy time for one of his receivers to get open.
The next tier has a few more options: Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz, Houston’s Deshaun Watson, Newton, Wilson and Brady. Any one of them can start for your fantasy team but they aren’t perfect by any means.
Newton had accuracy problems throughout his career and they aren’t likely to improve much this season. Still, his ability to scramble for yardage and TDs make him valuable. Wentz may or may not be ready for Week 1. If you draft Wentz, you may feel the need to select Nick Foles later as insurance. While no one can truly blame you for doing so, it’s a waste of a valuable bench slot. Watson is also coming off a torn ACL and one has to wonder if he will be able to move around as well as he did last season, and let’s also not forget that he only has a handful of starts under his belt. You may love Wilson for what he did last year, but now that Doug Baldwin (knee) could miss the entire preseason and Jimmy Graham left via free agency, there just isn’t much left for him to throw to. Brady may be the greatest real-life QB of all time Shilique Calhoun Jersey , but the team lost Nate Solder and Brandin Cooks and Julian Edelman is suspended for four games. Throw in that rookie running back Sony Michel will undergo knee surgery and maybe this won’t be his year.
After those top QBs are gone, wait another round or two and just take whoever’s left. Drew Brees (New Orleans), Kirk Cousins (Minnesota), Matthew Stafford (Detroit), Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Luck round out the next tier. Brees is not the QB he once was. The Saints have one of the best ground attacks in the game and a legitimate defense. They don’t need Brees to put the ball in the air 40-plus times a game anymore. Cousins has solid weapons around him and a strong defense. Now that he finally has the big contract he may finally relax and put up big numbers. Stafford is about as consistent as they come and is a safe play. Yeah, starting Roethlisberger on the road can be an issue as his splits are awful but perhaps a change in coordinators eliminates that problem. Rivers is sort of a forgotten man but like Stafford, also very consistent and won’t cost you much. Luck’s price is only going to get higher as fantasy owners start to believe in his health.
The position is so deep that even if you don’t end up with one of the top 12, you still have the likes of Matt Ryan (Atlanta), Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco), Alex Smith (Washington) and Marcus Mariota (Tennessee) available.
That gives you the wiggle room to wait while filling other positions early.

OAKLAND RAIDERS (6-10)
OPEN CAMP: July 26 Russell Okung Jersey , Napa, California
LAST YEAR: Raiders plummeted from 12 wins in 2016 to six last year as QB Derek Carr and offense regressed, defense struggled, and coach Jack Del Rio was fired. Oakland's offensive output dropped by more than seven points per game, takeaways fell from 30 to 14, and Raiders got almost no production from past three draft classes in becoming one of league's biggest disappointments. That led to move to bring coach Jon Gruden back for second stint with Raiders after spending past nine seasons in broadcast booth.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: Gruden, WR Jordy Nelson, WR Martavis Bryant, RB Doug Martin, LB Derrick Johnson, CB Rashaan Melvin Earl Mitchell Jersey , S Marcus Gilchrist, LB Emmanuel Lamur, LB Tahir Whitehead, WR Ryan Switzer, OL Kolton Miller, DT Maurice Hurst, DE Arden Key.
IMPORTANT LOSSES: Del Rio, WR Michael Crabtree, RT Marshall Newhouse, LB NaVorro Bowman, CB TJ Carrie Jared Cook Jersey , CB Sean Smith, CB David Amerson, P Marquette King.
CAMP NEEDS: Biggest priority is getting 2016 Defensive Player of Year Khalil Mack into camp after he held out entire offseason while seeking long-term contract. Mack is entering final year of rookie deal and Gruden and new DC Paul Guenther are eager to get most important defensive piece on practice field. Other main issues are learning Gruden's system and figuring out offensive tackle situation with LT Donald Penn coming back from foot injury and rookies Miller and Brandon Parker battling Breno Giacomini for time.
EXPECTATIONS: Owner Mark Davis has wanted to bring back Gruden ever since taking over team seven years ago. He's hoping move pays off in team's final two seasons in Oakland before move to Las Vegas in 2020. Gruden is being counted on to bring out best from Carr, who went from MVP candidate in 2016 to mediocre last season as he dealt with injuries. His protection got worse and his receivers were inconsistent. Even if Gruden does manage to spark offense, defense will need to take big step forward for Raiders to get back into playoff contention.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The New York Yankees are the only team in baseball yet to lose three games in a row this season, but that could end Sunday with a sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa Bay (36-40) posted a 4-0 victory Saturday at Tropicana Field after a 2-1 win Friday. For the second day in a row, the Rays relied on a patchwork relievers-as-starters bullpen-day approach.
The Yankees have not gone this late into a season without losing three in a row since August 1954.
The Rays have an actual starter on the mound Sunday in Blake Snell, who looks like an All-Star with a 9-4 record and 2.48 ERA. But he’s 0-2 against the Yankees with a 9.72 ERA, including his only loss in his last seven outings.
On June 14, Snell gave up four runs in five innings in a loss to the Yankees. By comparison LaAdrian Waddle Jersey , he has a 0.95 ERA in three outings against the Boston Red Sox.
Snell’s career record against the Yankees is 2-4 with a 4.89 ERA in 10 starts.
If Snell has the Yankees (50-24) as a nemesis, New York starter Domingo German (2-4, 4.77 ERA) is nearly the opposite — he had no wins in his first 11 appearances of the season until a June 14 game against the Rays when he lasted six innings and gave up three runs and five hits with a season-high 10 strikeouts for his first victory of the year. German made it two straight wins with a 7-2 victory over Seattle on Tuesday, striking out nine.
A Rays sweep of the Yankees would be unexpected, given that they opened the season with five straight wins over Tampa Bay by a combined score of 31-10. The Rays had lost five of seven entering the series, but now are one win from a sweep.
“That road trip kind of knocked us in the mouth a little bit,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “We faced arguably the two best teams in the American League (Yankees and Astros). … To be able to come back here, take the off day, get back at home and the fans, my gosh, the fan support that we’ve gotten has been outstanding Mark Andrews Jersey , and to find a way to win two games has to be special for this clubhouse.”
The Yankees have dominated in the first three months of the season and so scoring one run in a span of two nights is concerning but nothing Aaron Boone is too worried about long term. The Yankees haven’t had extended hitting slumps this season, so he’s eager to see his lineup get back to business even before the squad leaves town.
“You’re going to hit a little dry spell like that,” Boone said. “Overall, we haven’t really been mounting much since that big inning a couple of days ago. Over the course of 162 games, that is going to happen. We just have to keep grinding at it and really come back and have that urgency (Sunday), to try to get out of here with one (win) under our belt.”

The Browns aren’t likely to get Odell Beckham in a trade Cortez Kennedy Jersey , much to Jarvis Landry‘s chagrin, but they do hope to get Josh Gordon back. They also still could get a notable free agent receiver.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports the Browns remain interested in Dez Bryant.
The Browns, though, do not as yet have a visit set up with Bryant as things remain in a “holding pattern” on Bryant’s end. Bryant wants a one-year, prove-it deal with a contender.
The Browns have the cap space. While they look much improved, the Browns don’t have the look of a contender after going 0-16 last season.
The Cowboys saved $8.5 million in cap space by releasing Bryant in April. He received a multi-year offer from the Ravens but turned it down in hopes of getting a one-year contract.
Bryant has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2014 and has gone 23 games without a 100-yard game.
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan felt the organization ”lacked football IQ” in previous years.
So Khan hired two-time Super Bowl-winning coach Tom Coughlin to handle all football-related decisions.
With Coughlin calling the shots, the Jaguars (10-6) made the postseason for the first time since 2007 and will host a playoff game for the first time since January 2000.
”It’s a structure that’s been unsuccessful in the past, but for me, what I felt we lacked was football IQ Takkarist McKinley Jersey ,” Khan said Thursday, three days before Jacksonville hosts Buffalo (9-7) in an AFC wild-card game. ”And you can’t just say, `Let me go to craigslist or Backpage.com and get some football IQ.’ You want somebody who really it’s not just a job, it’s a passion, emotion and a drive. Nobody really personifies that better than Tom Coughlin.”
Khan wasn’t sure how the front-office dynamic would work with Coughlin and new coach Doug Marrone joining carry-over general manager Dave Caldwell.
Coughlin and Marrone changed the culture almost overnight and improved the roster by signing the best free-agent class in franchise history.
”The norm is these things don’t work,” Khan said. ”The short answer is: How do you get people together who are going to pull toward one goal, which is winning, and not be focused on, `Hey, is this right? Who gets the credit? Who gets the blame?’ This was the one time for us to really get that right.”
The Jaguars appear headed in the right direction Michael Strahan Jersey , with a young and talented roster that appears built to be competitive for several years.
”I think it turned out better than probably, certainly, I thought it would,” Khan said. ”And really the credit is to (Coughlin). I can tell you he never asked for the 53-man roster. It was my idea, `Tom, that means nothing changed. It’s maybe not good for Dave’s ego, but there has to be somebody in charge, and it needs to be you.'”
The biggest question entering the season was about quarterback Blake Bortles.
Jacksonville picked up the fifth-year option in his rookie deal, a decision that seemingly will keep Bortles under contract another year. He’s due to make $19 million in 2018.
The Jags made the move in May, after passing on available quarterbacks in free agency and in the draft.
”Maybe we’re not the biggest idiot on the football block Kyle Williams Jersey ,” Khan said. ”When his option was picked up, it was like, `What are these guys smoking?’ You’ve got to stay the course, but yet you have to have the agility and the flexibility. You have to have both.
”The other thing with Blake is he’s really a nice guy. … He’s from the area, he’s a nice guy, he’s talented, he’s stayed healthy. He’s not a China doll. We are invested. We want him to be successful.”
Bortles completed 60 percent of his passes this season for 3,687 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. His passer rating was up and his turnovers were down, and he did it without star receiver Allen Robinson. Bortles also had a running game that stalled late in the season and two rookie receivers playing in place of Robinson and Allen Hurns.
He said he managed to avoid thinking about the future by focusing on football.
”My goal is to play football in Jacksonville for as long as they let me Dwayne Allen Jersey , and in order to do that, we have to win football games,” Bortles said this week.
The biggest one in a decade comes Sunday at EverBank Field.
The Jaguars sold every ticket available with ease and even got permission from the NFL to remove tarps covering four sections in the upper deck to satisfy part of the demand.
”If one thing we have proven, it’s fans matter,” Khan said. ”They matter for us. We want them in the seats. … We want them showing up. We need the energy. If the Seattle and Houston games are example, it should be a notch up and it would be certainly (be) an incredible experience.”
Khan also said the Buffalo-Jacksonville game is the most expensive wild-card ticket on the secondary market. He said he saw Tennessee-Kansas City tickets available for $38, about $150 less than those for sale to see the Bills and Jaguars do something they haven’t done since 1999.
Buffalo in the playoffs for the first time since then and Jacksonville is hosting a playoff game for the first time since that same season.
”Could you imagine the hottest ticket in football is right here, selling for five, six times face value?” Khan said. ”Could you believe that happening in freaking Jacksonville?”

The Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions conducted the first of two joint practices Tuesday in preparation for their preseason opener Friday at the Oakland Coliseum, allowing players on both teams to get a new perspective after practicing against teammates for the past two weeks.
"It was nice to see some new coverages, some different stuff," Oakland quarterback Derek Carr said. "It was good for us. It'll be good film. A lot of things happened today, good and bad things that we needed to have happen that we haven't had happen in practice yet."
The practice was conducted in a controlled environment after Raiders coach Jon Gruden met with first-year Detroit coach Matt Patricia in the offseason. The two friends mapped out the workouts well before the Lions arrived in Northern California.
Patricia said the joint practices offer an opportunity for rookies and young players from both teams to make an impression.
"For a lot of the young guys that haven't stepped onto an NFL field with anyone except for their own teammates it certainly brings a different element from the standpoint of competitiveness and an evaluation standpoint," Patricia said. "Even the veteran guys, it's good to get out there and compete against somebody else. You kind of get into that rhythm and that mentality of going against the same guy every day."
Unlike in previous years when the Raiders have held combined practices with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, there were no fights and only a few minor scuffles.
Oakland linebacker Tahir Whitehead was at the center of one after hitting a Lions player who was getting up after making a long catch near the end zone. Whitehead Matt Bryant Jersey , who played six seasons in Detroit, including the last four as a starter, also exchanged good-natured ribbing with Lions running back Ameer Abdullah during a goal line drill near the end of practice.
"It was fun getting a chance to catch up with the guys even though we're chirping and everything going back and forth," Whitehead said. "When I was there we did the same exact thing. We were going back and forth. It's all competitive and we're just trying to get each other better. This time I'm in the black and silver and it's just a different feel."
The teams went through individual position drills on separate fields before coming together on both fields for team scrimmages.
Fans filled the east stands while members of the military and a handful of youth football teams sat on the west side, adding a livelier feel to practice.
"The fans made it even better," Detroit running back Kerryon Johnson said. "Everybody's tired of hitting each other for however many weeks we've been going against each other. It's a new face, a new venue. It made it fun and it made it like a real game and we really enjoyed it."
Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford looked crisp while leading the Lions' first unit. At one point he completed a deep throw to Marvin Jones Jr. for a touchdown after Jones raced past Raiders cornerback Antonio Hamilton.
Carr was equally sharp but threw his first interception of training camp when he was picked off by Detroit's Darius Slay.
"On a stupid scramble drill, too Steve Largent Jersey ," Carr said. "I was bummed."
Notes: Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah made it through his second practice after coming off the physically unable to perform list earlier in the week. "There's certainly some different things for him that we're going to have to learn this year to be able to do," Patricia said. "Just getting him on the field is one step closer." . Raiders running back Chris Warren provided the play of the day when he leveled Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis and sent the former first-round draft pick flying back.
CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs‘ starting pitchers may not be performing as consistent as they would like, but Joe Maddon’s offense is finding ways to make up for it.
Addison Russell’s grand slam helped bail out starter Mike Montgomery in Friday’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins. Now, as Tyler Chatwood takes the mound in Saturday’s matinee interleague game at Wrigley Field, the Cubs will push for their third straight victory after they rallied for their second consecutive come-from-behind win Friday at Wrigley Field.
Russell’s blast erased a three-run deficit en route to a 10-6 victory that included home runs by Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber. The win came a day after the Cubs scored seven runs in the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The run support could be big for Chatwood, who has struggled throughout the season and will make his first start after being activated off the paternity list earlier this week. Chatwood told reporters Friday that he feels good and that he was able to come in and throw a bullpen session as he prepared for Saturday’s start.
He admitted the uncertainty of when his wife would give birth weighed on him in his last start. Chatwood (3-5, 3.95 ERA) has taken no-decisions in four of his past five starts but was effective in his most recent outing. Chatwood allowed a run and two hits in five innings against the Dodgers when he threw 101 pitches. He is 0-2 in three career starts against the Twins with a 6.91 ERA.
“Luckily Chris Hogan Jersey , everything worked out,” Chatwood said Friday of the week’s events, according to the Chicago Tribune. “Everybody’s good.”
Chatwood will start after the Cubs hoped Yu Darvish could return from a right triceps injury on Saturday. Darvish, who experienced pain in a bullpen session on Thursday, flew to Dallas for a second opinion. Tests showed he has a right elbow impingement and inflammation and will be re-evaluated in three to five days.
The Twins, who have lost six of their last eight games despite Joe Mauer’s five RBIs in Friday’s loss, will attempt to get back on track when left-hander Adalberto Mejia makes his first start of the season. Mejia, who went 4-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 21 starts last year Tommylee Lewis Jersey , has spent the entire season in the minor leagues.
Mejia pitched well at Triple-A Rochester and struck out 50 and registered a 2.74 ERA in 49 1/3 innings. He has posted a 4-1 record in June with a 1.41 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 32 innings. Mejia will face the Cubs for the first time in his career.
The Twins announced this week that they would recall Mejia at a time that manager Paul Molitor said makes sense for everyone involved.
“The reports have been his command has been much better,” Molitor told reporters earlier this week, according to the team’s official website. “More efficient. His off-speed seems to be working. His changeup is the only pitch that’s been hot and cold. His fastball-slider command has been really good. He’s had a handful of good outings in a row. Efficient is good.”

The Bills started Josh Allen at quarterback against the Bengals on Sunday and the first-round pick found himself removed from the game to get evaluated for a head injury after being sacked for the fifth time in the first half.
Allen took some blame for those sacks by saying he wasn’t decisive enough in the pocket Ted Hendricks Jersey , but there was plenty of blame to go around as the Bills failed to score a point until the third quarter. Whether Allen will get another start this Thursday remains an open question.
Bills coach Sean McDermott said on Monday, via the Buffalo News Lee Roy Selmon Jersey , that there were “no further quarterback developments” to announce regarding a starter for this week’s preseason finale or Week One of the regular season.
McDermott did say that AJ McCarron is expected to practice on Monday after missing time with a shoulder injury. McCarron started the team’s second preseason game while Nathan Peterman got the nod in the first game of the summer.

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore sat on the turf with his hands on his knees Travis Benjamin Jersey , disconsolate as he watched Tampa Bay receiver Mike Evans coast into the end zone after beating him for a 50-yard touchdown.
It was a stark contrast to last November, when Evans caught one pass for 13 yards and received a one-game suspension after blindsiding Lattimore during a scuffle in the Saints' 30-10 victory at the Superdome.
This time, the Buccaneers' offense socked the Saints play after play after play. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for a career-high 417 yards and four touchdowns while compiling a nearly perfect quarterback rating in Tampa Bay's 48-40 victory in New Orleans on Sunday.
Evans, covered primarily by Lattimore, was targeted seven times and caught all seven throws for 147 yards. DeSean Jackson added five receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
It was a new feeling for Lattimore, the 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year.
"It isn't going to get me down," he said. "Everybody gets beat. We needed to get slapped in our face one good time to see we're not on a level we think we're on."
New Orleans Cameron Meredith Jersey , the defending NFC South champion, looked like the Super Bowl contender it expected to be on its opening drive, cruising 71 yards in six plays for a touchdown to go ahead 7-0.
Then, the defense took the field.
Jackson caught an easy 58-yard touchdown pass against a busted coverage on the Bucs' fourth play, setting the tone.
The Bucs punted only once, and that came because Fitzpatrick overthrew a wide-open Chris Godwin after cornerback Ken Crawley fell. The only other times they did not score were on a missed field goal and when Fitzpatrick took a knee to run out the clock at the end of the first half and the fourth quarter.
"We have to wipe our minds clean of this catastrophe that just happened," Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan said. "We have to push forward."
The Saints never sacked Fitzpatrick. He threw for scores of 58 Rodney Hudson Jersey , 50, 36 and 9 yards, completed five more passes for at least 20 yards and had another one_a 65-yarder down the sideline to Adam Humphries_negated by an illegal block.
Fitzpatrick, starting because Jameis Winston is suspended for the first three games under the NFL's personal conduct clause, had a quarterback rating of 156.2, just shy of the maximum 158.3.
"We couldn't stop anything," Lattimore said after New Orleans lost its season opener for the fifth straight season. "That's not going to get it done."
Drew Brees and the Saints offense matched Tampa Bay for a while Cornellius Carradine Jersey , going ahead 17-14 on a 28-yard pass to Ted Ginn. But the Bucs kept scoring while New Orleans committed two costly turnovers.
Evans' long touchdown on Lattimore gave Tampa Bay a 41-24 lead with 2:58 left in the second quarter. He caught the ball at the 12 as Lattimore dived for him, but could not catch him.
"I have to be there," Lattimore said. "I'm all on an island by myself with no help. I'm a shutdown corner. I'm going to be frustrated every time somebody catches a pass on me."
There was plenty of frustration to go around on a day New Orleans wasted 485 yards of offense. After the Saints scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions to close the gap to 48-40, Fitzpatrick scrambled for 12 yards on third-and-11, allowing the Bucs to run out the clock.
It was Tampa Bay's eighth conversion in 13 third-down opportunities.
"Take your pick," Saints coach Sean Payton said when asked what went wrong defensively. "We did not hurry the passer. Guys were open. Third downs were awful. They had over 500 yards. We didn't disrupt the timing to any element of the passing game and (had) too many penalties.
"I can't think of any positives."
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals may be without rookie quarterback Josh Rosen when they play at Dallas in a preseason game Sunday night.
Coach Steve Wilks said after Friday’s practice that Rosen’s participation would be a game-time decision. Rosen slammed his thumb into a helmet during practice early this week.
Wilks said if Rosen doesn’t play Ed Dickson Jersey , Mike Glennon and rookie Charles Kanoff would split time after starter Sam Bradford departs the game.
Wilks said defensive tackles Robert Nkemdiche (foot), Olsen Pierre (toe) and Corey Peters (knee) would not play.
Arizona also announced it had signed center A.Q. Shipley to a one-year contract for the 2019 season. Shipley was the starter before he went down with a season-ending knee injury in training camp before the first preseason game.

The home of the Denver Broncos will be known as Broncos Stadium at Mile High while the team continues to look for a new naming-rights sponsor.
The team announced the temporary name change Wednesday following a vote by the district that oversees the taxpayer-built stadium.
The stadium has had two naming-rights sponsors since it opened in 2001 Tre'Davious White Jersey , most recently Sports Authority. Both names included a reference to the Broncos' original stadium. The team took down large signs with Sports Authority's name earlier this year after the company declared bankruptcy and stopped making payments.
In a statement, Broncos Chief Commercial Officer Mac Freeman said the team has had "many productive conversations" and is confident it will find the right partner.
A deal would help pay for stadium maintenance.
Trevor Williams has been pitching in the majors for less than two full seasons. Still, he’s come to understand the ups and downs that come with the sport.
”Baseball kicks your (behind),” Williams said. ”The highs are so high, and the lows are so low. You have to stay even-keeled.”
Williams bounced back from recent struggles by pitching one-hit ball over seven innings and two Pittsburgh Pirates relievers closed out a two-hitter in a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.
Williams (6-4) struck out seven and walked two for his first victory in a month and after he had allowed a combined 12 runs in six innings in his previous two starts. Jordy Mercer drove in the lone run with a seventh-inning double, and the Pirates won for the fourth time in five games.
The Brewers entered the day leading the NL Central but suffered their third straight loss.
The only hit off Williams was a single by Jonathan Villar with two outs in the fourth. The hit followed a walk to Hernan Perez Durham Smythe Jersey , and the duo executed a double steal before Erik Kratz struck out to end the inning.
Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle thought fastball command made the difference for Williams.
”Up, down, in, out. It was just an outstanding performance,” Hurdle said.
Williams had gone 0-2 in five starts since beating the Chicago White Sox on May 15.
”He hit his spots,” Milwaukee right fielder Christian Yelich said. ”He was throwing everything for strikes. When a guy is doing that and he’s not really missing over the plate much Larry Johnson Jersey , it’s a tough night.”
Kyle Crick pitched a perfect eighth inning for Pittsburgh. Yelich singled off closer Felipe Vazquez to open the ninth, ending a string of 13 straight Brewers retired. Vazquez retired the next three hitters for his 14th save in 18 opportunities.
Francisco Cervelli drew a one-out walk in the Pirates’ seventh and advanced to third on Josh Bell’s single. Josh Hader relieved Jhoulys Chacin and struck out Gregory Polanco, but Mercer followed by doubling down the left-field line to score Cervelli.
”The way both guys were pitching, I think everyone started to think that one or maybe two runs and that was going to be the ballgame,” Mercer said.
The run was charged to Chacin (6-2), who had won his previous six decisions and not lost in 13 starts since April 4 against St. Louis. Chacin allowed six hits Ryan Jensen Jersey , struck out two and walked two.
Cervelli had two hits to snap a 0-for-13 skid.
”I feel like I was throwing the ball well,” Chacin said. ”I was making pitches when I had to. In the last inning, I gave up the hit, but I was more frustrated that I walked Cervelli. That was the guy I couldn’t get out.”

Manager Craig Counsell said he had hoped to replicate an outfit Uecker once wore that included a turtleneck sweater with a belt and a pair of bellbottom slacks. Alas, Counsell came up empty in his search for such garb.
The Pirates activated right-handed reliever Richard Rodriguez from the 10-day disabled list DeVante Parker Jersey , recalled infielder/outfielder Jose Osuna from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas and catcher Jacob Stallings to Indianapolis.
Brewers: 3B Travis Shaw (sore right wrist) was given the night off after being injured Sunday during a swing in a loss to Philadelphia.
Pirates: Rodriguez had been out since June 7 with right shoulder inflammation.
Brewers: RHP Freddy Peralta (1-0, 3.72 ERA) is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start Tuesday night. The rookie made two starts with the Brewers earlier this season, including striking out 13 in 5 2/3 innings at Colorado on May 13 in his major league debut, and is 6-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 12 starts with Colorado Springs.
Pirates: RHP Jameson Taillon (4-5, 3.94) is 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA in his last four starts and 1-3 with a 3.47 ERA in seven career starts against Milwaukee.

Police in a Dallas suburb are investigating a domestic violence complaint against Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving from a woman who later recanted.
Frisco police spokesman Radd Rotello said Monday no arrests have been made.
Rotello said a woman identified as Irving's girlfriend called police twice Sunday. After several media reports Monday Warren Sapp Jersey , the woman wrote in a message posted on Instagram that her allegations were false. She said she was upset over an argument that led to neighbors calling 911.
"David did not put his hands on me at any time," the woman wrote.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league will look into the incident. A spokesman for the team and Irving's agent declined comment.
Irving recently signed a 2018 second-round tender worth $2.9 million as a restricted free agent. He is eligible for unrestricted free agency after the upcoming season.
The 24-year-old Irving was suspended the first four games last season for violating the NFL's ban on performance enhancers. He had seven sacks in eight games before missing the last four games with a concussion.
The Cowboys picked up Irving off Kansas City's practice squad in 2015. He has 11 sacks over three seasons in Dallas.
Curtis Martin took and dished out plenty of helmet hits as he rushed for more than 14,000 yards in his Hall of Fame career.
He just wishes he didn’t have to endure that.
The retired running back sees the NFL’s enhanced rule penalizing players for leading with their helmets as a positive step for the sport. As a member of the player safety advisory panel, he’s part of a leaguewide effort to educate the current generation on how to stay on the right side of the rule and reduce injuries.
“Hopefully we can extend careers and just have less contact to the head, which I just think is beneficial over a long period of time,” Martin said by phone this week. “We’re really focusing on getting the head (contact) out of the game. I wish it was like that when I was playing. I think it’s something that’s very positive, and I think it’s important as we go forward and the future of the game.”
Martin and former linebackers Willie Lanier , also a Hall of Famer, and Willie McGinest taped minute-long “NFL Way to Play” instructional videos for players stressing stance Sebastian Janikowski Jersey , posture and technique. For specific examples of head-contact hits that are now 15-yard penalties or possibly ejections, there are situation-specific videos narrated by coaches Anthony Lynn of the Chargers (ball carriers ), Doug Marrone of the Jaguars (offensive linemen ), Dan Quinn of the Falcons (defensive linemen ), Mike Vrabel of the Titans (linebackers ), and Todd Bowles of the Jets (defensive backs ).
“I just had some things I wanted to try to share being a former player and having played that technique and coached that technique,” Vrabel said. “It’s what’s best for the game, the fundamentals. We always try to teach the fundamentals that are good: playing with your knees bent, leading with your hands and playing with your face up.”
After watching those videos Javorius Allen Jersey , Redskins coach Jay Gruden said making sure players don’t use their helmets as weapons is “a big thing we’re trying to get over.” That’s the NFL’s emphasis: a helmet is for protection and not to be used as a projectile.
“You don’t necessarily want to hurt anyone,” Martin said. “As an offensive player, a lot of times, especially when you see those times when a player or whoever’s carrying the ball they’re very close to the sidelines, but before they go out, they decide they just want to punish that (defensive back). That’s where you see the helmet used as a weapon, and you want to cut things like that out of the game because it’s unnecessary, No. 1, and it just protects the players better.”
Bowles Alex Cappa Jersey , who played defensive back for eight NFL seasons, illustrated in his video many of the shoulder-to-shoulder hits that are legal and expected. He contrasted them with some players who made helmet-to-helmet contact. Because the enhanced rule now makes helmet-to-anywhere contact a penalty, he knows it’s on coaches to give players a refresher on the proper way to tackle.
“It’s really teaching football to be played the right way,” Bowles said. “There are going to be hard collisions, but if the helmet’s up, and you have to keep the helmet out of the way and hit with the shoulder, which most of the teams do all the time. There’s an occasional head-to-head when someone’s putting their head down, but we don’t teach it any differently.”
Martin fully understands the football mentality of pushing for the extra yard and going for the big hit, so he figures it’ll take time for players to adjust. It’s his hope the culture change toward understanding head injuries helps players accept the updated rule for their own good.
“As former players Cameron Wake Jersey , we can sit back and see how this rule would’ve been very effective for us when we were playing,” Martin said. “But when you’re in the midst of something, it’s like anything — when you’re in the midst of a problem, it’s hard to see the benefits of (fixing) that problem or the outcome or the potential positive things that can come out of that problem. Now that we’re on the other side, we can see that maybe a little clearer than current players can and as we’re able to inform them and teach, I think that they’ll come around.”

Obviously its been a long time coming. I had a good week of practice, everything feels great so Im just excited to put that out there on the game field for the first time in a long time.Cruz said this is more than a preseason game to him, and there is some truth to that.General manager Jerry Reese said he wants to see the oft-injured Cruz play two preseason games. The Giants have a number of young receivers, led by Odell Beckham Jr. and second-round draft pick Sterling Shepard.Cruz could give Eli Manning another option if he can stay healthy, but if the 29-year-old cant stay on the field his place on the 53-man roster could be in jeopardy. This one is crossing so many hurdles, so many barriers, Cruz said. So many ups and downs that I had to face to get to this moment. Now, Im just ready to relax and go play some football again. To me, this game is bigger than just the game. Two days? Not a lot to go on there, either, as Tebow spent much of Wednesdays session watching Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett run drills while he tried to absorb the new system he was thrust into when he signed with New England this week. "Were not going to get into a minute-by-minute evaluation of a player," Belichick said. "I dont think thats the way to go, especially at this time of year." Robert Kraft wasnt as reluctant to size up Tebows much maligned throwing motion after the second day of the three-day minicamp. "Hes a lot better than I am," the Patriots 72-year-old owner said, his grin growing as he spoke. And, at least in Krafts mind, probably better than hes given credit for. Kraft had strolled onto the field late in Tebows first practice with the Patriots on Tuesday. The high-profile player discarded by the Denver Broncos and New York Jets had rolled out to throw short passes while on the run and dropped back to heave long passes into the end zone. "I was just out there for a short period, but to me, he looked pretty good," Kraft said. "Its fun having him here. I think that Tom Brady throws pretty well and I also think Ryan Mallett does the same. So its nice to have three quarterbacks who can throw very well." After Tebow practiced for the second time, Brady wasnt as eager to judge him. "To get to this point, you obviously have to be talented," Brady said. "So I have a lot of respect for everyone that plays and, certainly, (for) what Ive seen him do in the past." For the second straight day, Tebow mostly watched as Brady and Mallett took turns running 7-on-7 drills. Late in the session, Tebow played in 11-on-11 situations and was hit-or-miss while running plays from his new playbook. After each one, hed consult with assistant coach Brian Daboll, who referred to paper in his hand and instructed Tebow on what to do. Tebow threw an accurate, low pass that wide receiver Chaz Schilens, in for a tryout, caught while hitting the ground. Schilens ran back toward the huddle and slapped hands with Tebow, who at least had something familiar in his new situation. He and Schilens were roommates last summer at the Jets training camp. But a few plays later, Tebow threw an inaccurate pass that landed at the feet of a defender, who booted it back toward the line of scrimmage. Cheap Air Max 90 2018. Hell get another chance at Thursdays final day of the three-day minicamp. Training camp wont start until late July. "I think everybody out there is pretty much in the same boat, just trying to get better day by day," Belichick said. "Some guys are starting at different points. Hes obviously starting at a point different than where other players were. "Theyre all moving along." Kraft praised Tebow for his competitiveness, hard work and spirituality. He called him a "winner" with a great attitude. That, however, may not be enough as he tries to secure a regular-season roster spot. "Having him as part of our franchise is great, but he has to compete just like anyone else," Kraft said. "Hes just one of 90 people (in camp) right now, so I wonder if we havent talked enough about him. But if you want to keep talking about him, we can do that." And he did. He said he was in on the discussions to sign Tebow. "Look," Kraft said, "life is about collecting good people around you, who you like to have with you and who want to win. I think he like many of our other players fall in that category." Tebow worked out only at quarterback during the two practices. Brady thought for a moment when asked how he would feel if he had to come off the field if Belichick wanted to use a play designed for Tebow, a good runner. "I have no idea," he said. "Thats a very hypothetical question. So, maybe well deal with it if it happens." Replacing one of the NFLs best quarterbacks with one who couldnt take playing time away from a struggling Mark Sanchez with the Jets last year is highly unlikely. "In my mind, we have the greatest quarterback of all time on our team," Kraft said. "Every time he has the ball in his hand, we have a chance to do something great." Tebow, of course, has accomplished much less than Brady. But he also brings a dimension that Kraft likes. "Hes hard-working. Hes very co-operative. I dont think theres any coach that wouldnt like to have a team full of people like he is, sort of like Brady," Kraft said. "Theyre all business and you cant get enough people like that on your team. "So, were honoured that hes with us." MINNEAPOLIS -- Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez has only a bruise on his right wrist after getting hit by a pitch. Air Max Flyknit Womens Sale .X-rays on Perezs throwing hand showed no broken bone, but Perez was held out of the starting lineup at Minnesota on Wednesday, a night after getting plunked by Twins pitcher Ervin Santana. Manager Ned Yost told reporters he hopes to put the All-Star back behind the plate for the next game Friday at Chicago.Drew Butera was catching for the series finale against the Twins.Perez has 20 home runs and 59 RBI in 121 games for the defending champion Royals, who started Wednesday four games out of the second AL wild card spot. They reached the 100-point plateau for the fourth time in five games, bested the visiting Trail Blazers by 34 in the paint and scored 19 of the final 25 points in regulation. http://www.airmaxflyknitsale.com/ . -- Charline Labonte couldnt have asked for a better homecoming. WACO, Texas -- Seth Russell has been keeping an eye the past few weeks on a determined receiver in Ishmael Zamora and a frustrated one in Chris Platt. What the Baylor quarterback saw from the pair of sophomores against Oklahoma State didnt surprise him.Russell threw four touchdown passes, including an 89-yarder to Platt for the go-ahead score in the third quarter, and the No. 16 Bears held on to beat the Cowboys 35-24 on Saturday night in the weather-delayed Big 12 opener for both teams.Zamora had career highs of 175 yards receiving and two touchdowns on eight catches in his season debut for the Bears after a three-game suspension over a video of him whipping his dog that surfaced during the summer. Platt also had two TDs.He never takes any days off, Russell said about Zamora. When he was suspended, he never griped one day. He came to work, and it showed tonight. As for Platt, Russell said its been difficult for the young receiver to shake off a case of the drops in recent games.I just kept trying to encourage him, Russell said. Hes a soft-spoken guy. He came out firing and he did some great things like we knew he would.Baylor earned its fourth consecutive 4-0 start in its first big test after a light nonconference schedule. The game was stopped by lightning for about 1 1/2 hours after the Bears scored on the opening series. The Cowboys (2-2) lost three fumbles, including the second by Justice Hill after he picked up a first down at the Baylor 2 with Oklahoma State trailing 28-24 with 9 minutes remaining. Hill, who had 122 yards rushing, was originally ruled down, but the call was overturned on review. This game was pretty easy to see, coach Mike Gundy said. Travel on the road and turn the ball over three times and then your defense gives up way too many big plays. With leading Baylor receiver KD Cannon out for most of the game with a groin injury, Zamoras first TD came when Russells high pass went through Lynx Hawthornes hands and into the sophomores arms. Because the defense converged on Hawthorne, Zamora raced untouched down the sideline for the final 30 yards on the 38-yard play.Platt, who had 114 yards receiving, was 5 yards behind Ashton Lampkin on the sideline after a stutter-and-go route when he ccaught Russells pass in stride and easily outran everyone to the end zone. Air Max Flyknit Modern. Russell was 18 of 28 for 387 yards with an interception.I probably havent opened up like that since high school, Platt said.A week after throwing for a national season-high 540 yards to beat Pittsburgh in another weather-delayed game for the Cowboys, Mason Rudolph was 27 of 45 for 279 yards with an interception. It was the first loss in a true road game for Rudolph since his debut as a freshman at Baylor two years ago, a span that included six straight road wins. Baylor is the only Big 12 team the junior hasnt beaten.I think (Gundy) was not happy with our ball security and just kind of mishandling the ball a few times, Rudolph said. Its reasonable for him to be upset, and weve got to correct it.POLL IMPLICATIONSBaylor: The Bears figure to move up since No. 8 Michigan State and 12th-ranked Georgia lost in blowouts, while the three teams immediately behind them in the rankings (Arkansas, LSU and Florida) also lost.THE TAKEAWAYOklahoma State: Who knows what would have happened if the Cowboys hadnt fumbled inside the Baylor 5 on what looked to be a go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter. Add that to the what-if list that started with a disputed loss when officials mistakenly allowed an untimed down for Central Michigans winning score.Baylor: The Bears have been something of an afterthought in the Big 12 race since a tumultuous offseason marked by allegations of mishandled sexual assault cases that led to the dismissal of two-time league champion coach Art Briles along with school President Ken Starr and athletic director Ian McCaw. But the Bears are the only 4-0 team, and the only other unbeaten team is West Virginia (3-0).UP NEXTOklahoma State: The Cowboys host No. 21 Texas next week. COMPTON, Calif. Cheap Air Max 2017 . -- Venus and Serena Williams made a rare visit to their childhood hometown, where their half-sister was killed in 2003, to have tennis courts dedicated in their honor on Saturday. The sisters were greeted by cheers from a few hundred people when they arrived at Lueders Park, not far from their former home in the violence-plagued city of Compton located 17 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. We literally lived right down the street so we could walk there, Venus told the crowd.Banners hung in the four corners of the two newly refurbished courts proclaiming them the Venus & Serena Williams Court of Champions. We are really excited to be here, Serena said. Driving here brought back so many memories. We definitely want to see some more champions come from these courts.Venus added: Its been a surreal experience to be back in this way.To have the tennis court refurbished, to make sure that theres coaching available, to make sure that these programs go on and to make sure that this sport stays here in our community, its a big part of bringing us all up and creating positivity for young people. The sisters laughed and applauded the Compton Sounders drill team and drum squad that performed for them on court.Babies in strollers, members of a Girl Scout troop and elderly residents were among the crowd sitting in white chairs on the two courts.Thelma LeBeauf, an 84-year-old fan from Los Angeles, clutched a plastic bag filled with newspaper articles about the sisters she has clipped and saved over the years. She pulled out a photo from the late 1990s, when the sisters wore colorful beads in their hair.At that time, black people, we werent into tennis, said LeBeauf, who attended with her daughter and granddaughter. Ive learned from watching them. I like the style they play. The sisters first learned to play tennis a few miles away on courts at East Rancho Dominguez Park in an unincorporated area surrounding Compton under the tutelage of their father, Richard, who didnt attend Saturdays ceremony. They were accompanied by their mother, Oracene Price. The previously run-down and little-used courts at Lueders Park are fenced with lighting and now host three tennis camps and clinics, according to Aja Brown, the citys 34-year-old female mayor. When you consider all the challenges and all the obstacles that the Williams sisters had to overcome and they stayed focused and dedicated, so that same message is being transferred over to the young people in the city, Brown said. The sisters are helping fund the Yetunde Price Resource Center in Compton, set to open early next year. Named for their half-sister who was killed in a drive-by shooting in September 2003, the center will help connect residents affected by violence with service providers. Its definitely a healing moment. They havent been to the city of Compton since their sister passed away, said Brown, whose grandmother was fatally shot in Compton. All of us in the community in some way have been touched by violence. After the ceremony, the sisters left the park and headed to the Healthy Compton Festival at the citys transit plaza, where they were set to judge dance and food contests. The sisters primarily live in South Florida, where their father moved the family from Compton so they could further hone their games at a tennis academy. Cheap Air Max 90 . "I dont know that were close," said general manager Alex Anthopoulos. "I just think, right now, the acquisition cost just doesnt work for us right now. I dont know if I can quantify how far off or things like that that they might be but I would say we continue to have dialogue. Nike Air Max Outlet . The defence is doing its part, too. Drew Brees threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first half and the guys on the other side made sure that was enough, sending the Saints to a 17-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. http://www.airmaxclearance.us/ . -- If this was Aaron Gordons final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style. AUBURN, Ala. -- Clemsons Dabo Swinney kept his kicker on the sideline and put the game in star quarterback Deshaun Watsons hands. The decision worked in the second-ranked Tigers 19-13 win over Auburn on Saturday night, but not without a few more anxious moments in an opener filled with them.Swinney opted to go for it on fourth-and-4 from the 17 instead of kicking a field goal, and Wayne Gallman was stopped short by Tray Matthews -- a failed call that could have backfired. We just didnt want to take a shot at the field goal right there, he said. We felt like as good as we had played defensively, with them having no timeouts, it was going to be very difficult for them to go score.Greg Huegels extra-point attempt earlier in the quarter had hit the upright. Gallman had been knocked out of bounds on the previous play, stopping the clock to help leave Auburn more time.Unbelievable, Swinney said. And now were fighting for our life there at the end.Watson passed for 248 yards, including 174 to Mike Williams in his return from a neck injury in last seasons opener. Gallman carried 30 times for 123 yards.Clemson dominated the stat sheet in the first half -- with a 233-38 advantage in total yards -- but led only 10-3 and both scores came after defensive penalties on third-down plays. That is one of the best teams in college football, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. Holding those guys to 19 points was really unbelievable as far as the effort.Clemson struggled to put the opener away even though Auburn produced little offense for much of the game while swapping three quarterbacks in and out. Finally, Watson hit former walk-on receiver Hunter Renfrow in the back of the end zone on third and goal from the 16 with 9:59 left in the fourth quarter. That was a lifetime in this game.Ben Boulwares subsequent goaal line interception only provided a temporary reprieve for a team that made the national championship game last season and is among the favorites to win it this time. Air Max Sneaker 2017. . Auburn finally got a touchdown with 3:22 left on a 9-yard direct snap run by Kerryon Johnson, and Clemsons failed fourth-down try deep in Auburn territory set up another shot with 40 seconds and 85 yards to go.Sean White drove the offense to the Clemson 40, but two desperation heaves into the end zone fell incomplete, with the second getting batted around.THE TAKEAWAYCLEMSON: If Watson didnt exactly pick right up from his 478-yard bonanza in the national championship game against Alabama, he was still good enough. And Williams provides Clemsons offense with yet another threat.AUBURN: Auburns offensive problems continued from last season, with three quarterbacks attempting passes on the first six plays. The defense made some big stops and held Clemson to 6 of 17 on third downs. Daniel Carlsons 53-yard field goal was the Auburn-record sixth of 50-plus yards.POLL IMPLICATIONSBarring a dominant win by No. 4 Florida State over No. 11 Mississippi on Monday night, Clemson seems likely to stay put right behind Alabama. No. 3 Oklahoma was upset by 15th-ranked Houston earlier in the day. The close score does make it a question mark, though.QUOTABLEWatson: We knew they were going to be good. We knew we werent going to come in here and blow these guys out.UP NEXTAuburn: hosts Arkansas State, where Malzahn was head coach in 2012, on Saturday.Clemson: like Auburn, hosts a Sun Belt Conference team on Saturday when Troy visits.---Online: AP college football website: http://collegefootball.ap.org Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Cheap NFL Jerseys Camo Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale NFL Autographed Jerseys White NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Hoodies Cheap Jerseys From China White NFL Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys Throwback Jerseys NFL Cheap Cheap NFL Hoodies NFL T-shirts From China Youth NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Autographed Jerseys ' ' '
